Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's great to get a chance to sit down with
a young lady who just got off the course. I
believe your first ever LPGA round here and a sponsor
invitation a Lase Rhymer from the University of Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's the Pride of England is a guess Bro.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
England, England, Gainsborough.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Gainesbro, England. My apologies. Well thanks for doing this.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah, of course, thank you for having me a.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Two over for the day.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Your first ever LPGA round, right, and you look incredibly composed.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
No, it's just super cool to be out here.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
I had a lot of fun out there today, so
that was the main goal, just have as much fun
as humanly possible and go and enjoy myself.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
So well, I appreciate you doing this. You golf at
the University of Cincinnati. You came from NC State. Yes,
how did you find your way from England to NC
State to now the University of Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Just through like a lot of people that came from England,
like people that have been in my footsteps, that know
other people. That's how I got my spot at ANTI State.
And then luckily enough, both of my coaches are actually English,
you see, so that helped a little bit, and then
I knew one of the girls that was also coached
by my head coach, So it was just nice to
put connections together. And now I'm at uc and it's

(01:13):
it's great.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
You like it, I love you? See Yeah. Yeah, so
you're gonna stay around, gonna go somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
No, I'm staying. I'm staying for good.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Well, now you know you're on the your Xavier's home course.
How do you feel about that?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
You know they have a nice home course. I'll give
it to them. No, it's just cool to be in Cincinnati,
Like everybody around here is familiar that everybody's rooting for
Bearcats and Xavier as well. So it's nice to have
people that support Cincinnati kids.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, folks have played this who are listening to this
have have played this course, but they haven't played it
at the highest level. So so walk us through what
the course is like from your perspective.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Yeah, so right now out here this week, the course
is very tight and the rough is thick.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
It's real thick.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
So this week is just all about like trying to
keep the ball in play and hit fairways and greens
because as soon as you miss fairways, Like it gets
real tricky out there.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yeah, so you played today, You're gonna play tomorrow. Yeah,
what sort of things that maybe you learn about the
course today that you could apply to maybe a better
round tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
The greens are a lot slower than what I expected
them to be, So take that into account, into account,
and yeah, move from there. Really that was where I
dropped most of my shots. I had a few three
ports out there today just from bad pace and bad
speed from myself. So yeah, just been working on that
a little bit. And then take that into tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah, when did you start playing? What age you pick
up a club?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:35):
So I started playing when I was five.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Yeah, so I've been playing sixteen years now.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Unbelievable. Wow.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
And then when when did like the opportunity to play
college golf? When did you think about, like, you know,
what I could I could make, I could do something
with this.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah. So for me, like college golf was always on
the radar.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
I came and I've been watching Open championships with these
guys out here since I've been ten nine or ten so,
and I started to realize, like that's the route that
they took, so and it's always been my goal to
play on the LPGA. So I realized, Okay, if this
is something that I want to do, like, going to
America is probably the best route, okay, especially because the

(03:13):
weather out here is way better than what it is
in England, and the facilities are way better out here
as well. There's more opportunities to play competitive golf all
throughout the year. So it was just the right route
for me.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
And when you get the call that you're going to
be invited to this event, that had to be just
an unbelievable moment.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
Yeah, it was crazy. It was really crazy. It came
out the blue. Did not expect it at all, really yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
I actually had my flight booked to go home last Saturday.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Really yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
So this came very quick, Yeah, very quick. I found
out the middle of last week, so really yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
And then so you have to rearrange everything. But you know,
one of those moments that you know, wherever your career
takes show, you're never going to forget.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
No exactly, this is this is the first week of
my LPGA career hopefully, and with it being in Cincinnati,
it's just it's amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Yeah, you know, if I was in your shoes and
much more composed and obviously more talented than me. But
if I was in your shoes, there would be a
part of me looking around gold. I know who some
of these players are and watch them on television. Is
there any of that?

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yeah, one hundred percent. It's funny. Actually I played with
Paula Rito today and I have a picture of me
and her back in twenty sixteen, I think when I.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Went and watched some Open championships.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Yeah, and the same with Charlie, Like I've seen her
and Open Championships for years for years, like since I've
been like ten. So just seeing people like that about
is like really surreal.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, we're the coolest places you play collegiately, Like, give
me some of the best courses.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
We went out to California that was pretty cool, and
then we was in Arizona.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Now, when you say California, you don't mean the public
course on the east side, right, Okay, just checking, yeah,
because I like that course.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, we was in Napa, which was really sweet, and
then we was in Arizona like not long before that
as well, right like in the mountains, So that was super.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Cool and practicing like you're you know, it's it's hard
to get out to a golf course every single day.
My understanding is the practice facility at use he is
really good.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, the indoor is unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah, it really is. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
And then obviously as America, I mean you follow like
basketball and.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Football on yeah, yeah, I try to.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah, I mean did you know anything about football before
he came over?

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Before I came to the States, I had no idea,
no clue, no clue. I mean my first football game
that I went to, I was just clapping when everyone
else was clapping.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
At State it was yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
And now at Nippert Stadium, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Now at Nipput it's like and I kind of know
what's going on a little bit more so.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Right, yeah, probably more than me, be honest with you. Awesome,
and so at the university is in saying now, I
think there's a lot of folks who would be surprised
to hear you say, like, playing in America maybe a
little bit more ideal than than England, because there's people who,
you know, they save up their entire lives to go
play golf in England, right.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
So if I were to do that, where do I
want to go play that you've played in England?

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah, any coastal course links golf is great.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
But I would say go to Scotland and play Scottish golf.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Really yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
The golf courses up there are unbelievable, Like St. Andrew's, King's, Barnes,
You've got Carnoustie, all of them.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Now, these are world renowned places.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
You're rattling them off like I would mention, like you
know public courses of Kentucky, right, yeah, have you played
them all?

Speaker 3 (06:09):
I've played all of them?

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Really yeah? Well at them all?

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah? Really yeah, I try to Wow, Yeah, it's and Andrew's.
I played St.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Andrews last year and shot six on the course.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Now was that competitive or was that competitive? All?

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Right?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Are you abe?

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Are you capable of like throwing the bag in the
back of a car and you go out you just
play with Rando's like me.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, are you capable of doing that? You do?

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Like you have like the college kids who play golf
but they're not on the golf team.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Like when I go home in the summer, one of
my best friends, she's called Grace, we just like rock
up to the golf course at whatever time. She says,
and then go out and play nine and have a laugh.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, and you're laughing at her? I'm sure, right do
you do you fall like fall into like tutor mode
like you, I'll help you with your swing. That's sort
of no, no, because that's I'm asking for myself. Use
somebody to go on a course with me and just
laugh at me, but also give me some pointers because
the people that I play with, all they do is laugh.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
There's no pointers.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
No, sometimes I give her.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
I'll give her a little bit helpy, okay if she's
ask her for it, But otherwise it's just all laughs,
both at me and at her.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
So wait, she can't laugh at you. Right. Collegiate, you've
played an LPGA event this week?

Speaker 3 (07:17):
True? That is true.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
How many more years of college do you have?

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I have one more year left, one more year you see? Yeah?
Okay right now, and then I'm going into my senior year.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
And then are you thinking, like you know what this
this is I'm going to be back on this tour
full time.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, ideally that is the plan. One thousand.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
How do you make that happen?

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Just working hard, working hard, keep grinding like I am doing,
and take notes from the girls.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Out here.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
I mean watching them and being here this week, like
taking advice from them is unbelievable, right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah. Or do you get along with the Xavier players
when you're out there?

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:53):
I mean I've never really met them, so I never
met any of them, right, but I mean when we
see each other, you're friendly, You're nice.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Okay, It's it's not that way in all the sports.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
No, it's not like a big, big rivalry like you're
having like football or baseball, basketball.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
But Zafer doesn't have a football team. Yeah, so you
can taunt those people about that. Yeah, undefeated since nineteen
seventy four basketball. Maybe a little bit of a different story,
just a little Yeah, very good. What what do you
like to do when you're not playing golf? When I'm
not playing golf, I what are you studying? I'm studying
interdisciplinary studies?

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Okay, so fair.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
It's like right now, I'm in between sports, medicine and communication.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
But when I'm not playing golf, like, I just like
hanging out with my friends, like right.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yeah, typical college kids. Who's playing this weekend an LPGA event?

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Do you do your teammates get a chance to come
out and watch it. Did you go to school with
get a chance?

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:46):
So unfortunately, because our school is finished, we're do this school.
Everybody's gone home pretty much, except like there's I think
there's two people left at school right now.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
In the entire school.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Well it might feel at a minute, but no.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
One of the girls, one of my teammates, came out
and watched me for a few holes today, so that
was really nice. And then a lot of our support
stuff that you see have come out so nice.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Yeah, well earned, well, best of luck this weekend.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah, and uh, like what's tonight?

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Like you call it an early night and then you know,
back at it tomorrow or try to forget about the round,
forget about golf and think about something else.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, you do this eason.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
I'm trying to move out my apartment right now, so
I've got that going on. Packing up some boxes and
taking a bath.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah it kind of sounds like my night.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah, pack up some boxes and take a bath, although
I'm not moving. Well, congratulations on and I mean, I
mean I was thinking about you and I'm going this
has got to be a day that she's dreamed about
her entire life to be in this event, and to
do it in the town that you play collegiate golf
in is awesome, awesome. We'll be watching this weekend and
and beyond. Yeah, thank you very much and thank you enough.

(09:51):
