Speaker 1 (00:00):
Today is going to be the best day of your life.
Just say that out loud. It will be. It's one
of six pollenty seven Light FM Cubby and Christine in
the morning. Producer Christen, how are we feeling on this Tuesday,
July first? Can you believe it?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I think like fresh start? This is officially second half.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Of the year day, officially second half of the year day.
So how about you know, since we're six hours and
seven minutes into July first, how about we do a
little Christmas in July? Come on? Why not? Why are
you nodding your head? Producer Kristen?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Why soon?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Too soon?

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Little bit?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Oh no, this is never too soon. Christmas?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Letting it happened.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Sure you're not mad about it, but you're right.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
It's a little too early. But you know what we
should do Christmas?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Is that going to be our first song at Radio
City Musical.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
That's always the big guess, you know, Kristin, you're kind
of new here, Yeah, you know, there's a big guess
every November what the first Christmas song will be? When
we flip this, when we flip the switch Radio City
Music Hall, We'll be doing that in no time.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
I know that's going to happen fast.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Uh huh, yep, it's just flying by. It's National Ginger
snap Day. By the way, It's National Creative ice Cream
Flavors Day. Yes, there's a day for this. May kind
of put your own just contraption together. Yeah, and it
becomes a day. It's National US Postage Stamp Day.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
And you know, I can tell people's age by how
much stamps were, you know, not when they're well, when
you're If I knew when you were born, obviously I
would know your age. But like, you tell me how
much a stamp was, and I can pretty much tell
you how old you are. I'm not saying, producer Christian,
can you name like an early stamp price in your life?

(01:48):
Like I remember, I remember a nine cent stamp, and
that's because stamps were nine cents in like nineteen seventy eight.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
I remember that they're about to go up again, just
like a little aside that they are about to increase.
So if you have forever stamps, you're good.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yeah. To me, I would always buy a forever stamp.
I still do.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
I think that's all they have now, really, I think so.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Kristin twenty five cents the year you're born Okay, so
that must be all right. So you were born in
eighty seven, right, that's right, yeah, all right. So how
much do you think a stamp was in two thousand
and six? Christine Kristen guess fifty cents? Thirty nine cents?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Oh, I guess forty yeah, okay, you're good.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Now, the year I was born nineteen seventy one, how
much do you think a stamp was?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Five cents? Eight cents, eight cents yep, wow.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Eighteen sixty three they were free. Okay, Actually, how far
back you can go, penny, that's come a long way. Actually,
July first, eighteen ninety five they were two cents. Wow,
and that was just for a letter, not a postcard.
That was like a letter. And then in twenty twenty
two they were sixty cents. Just last year they were
sixty eight and and seven seventy three currently.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, and then they go up to seventy eight.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
They may go to seven you know what. Yeah, just
make it a dollar, right, no, no, no, making a dollar. No,
making a dollar, and don't move it up for a
good twenty years.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
That's not gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Wow, I guess my my Christmas cart list is going
to get smaller than smaller.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
I still have stamps from last year though, me too,
rightly too.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Oh yeah, well, Happy National US Postage Stamp Day. And
we hope you hang out all day to day because
we have a heck of a show. In addition to
our fine content and fun topics, we have great giveaways,
including Cindy Lauper. If you want to check her out
her farewell tour, all you have to do is tell
us a crazy first date story, and you can do
that by texting us at four four, three sixty three.

(03:45):
Andy Grammer singing the hits at seven forty, we have
tickets for him for the nearly impossible question, and are
you kidding me? We have more MJ than musical ticket.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yes, man, MJ the musical and we send you to
a barbecue.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, more on that coming up, but we have that
at eighth five. It's a busy day.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
It's Light FM and Christine coming your way on Light
at them pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
It's three pretty cool things you need to know with.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Three pretty cool people. As I always say, Cubby Christine, producer, Christen,
this is very cool coming out of New Jersey, Cranford,
New Jersey, Kids that are riding bikes are hoping to
get pulled over and ticketed by a police officer. That's
because officers in Cranford are giving out special tickets for
helmet safety. The ticket entitles helmet wearing kids to a

(04:32):
free slice of pizza, nice and a drink at two
local restaurants. Of course, not a beer or anything. Yeah,
like you know, so it or whatever. Yeah, And the
treat is a reward for following the rules of the
road and putting their helmets on whenever they go out
for a bike ride. So it's always important to wear
your helmet. But if a cop catches you in Cranford
and you're a kid, you're gonna get some pizza and

(04:53):
a drink. I like it pretty cool. What's your cool?
Thank Christine.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I'm excited for this. Devilwares Prada too. Production is underway,
so it really is happening because twenty first Century Studio
has been teasing it and they've got everybody on board,
including Anne Hathaway.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
That's huge.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Anne Hathaway a little bit of a holdout because she
wanted fifteen million to play Andy again and said you
can't do the film without me, so they came around.
They gave her the money. Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci,
they're all starting to film here in New York. What
was the original like six, Yes, two thousand and six.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Wow, yeah, lucky on that. So it's been almost twenty
years and.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Then it's going to come out in May, so then
it'll be exactly twenty twenty years.

Speaker 6 (05:35):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Very cool.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
All right, Kristin, you're up fans of the WNBA. They
have announced three new expansion teams, so we can expect
a new team in Cleveland in twenty twenty eight, Detroit
in twenty twenty nine, and Philadelphia in twenty thirty. So
the league is looking to have eighteen teams in total
by that year. So by twenty thirty, so a nice

(05:57):
expansion to the WNBA.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Yeah, the end of the day, go Liberty.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
That's right, It's right, that's right.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
Light more Covey and Christine and a great music variety
you expect next on Light at Them.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
I'm honored that Christine took a suggestion from me and
watched a recommended show I watched on Netflix. Yes, and
of course, you know, you know my sense of humor.
Of course I'm gonna recommend Poop Cruise.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yes, the full title is train Wreck Poop Cruise and
it's a documentary on Netflix and I saw it every weekend.
You watched it last night without spoiling anything your thoughts.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Uh, it was great. You know, it's so funny because
I always say, like Eric, my fiance and Covey have
the same sense of humor. So when I said, Erica said,
Covey's recommending this Netflix documentary. It's less than an hour.
It's called train Wreck Poop Cruise, and he was like,
let's go. He was like so exciting. And then like

(06:54):
as it's starting, and you know, they lay out what's
going to happen, because this really did happen yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Thirteen, twenty thirteen. I remember hearing about it when it happened,
but I totally forgot about it. Totally forgot.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
And then he was like yes, yeses. He was really
psyched to watch this is It's excellent. It makes you
kind of scared.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Well, i'll tell you what, if you're on a fence
about doing a cruise, this will make you not want
to do a cruise.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
This documentary may scare you off.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah. It's about a certain carnival cruise ship that lost
power halfway through their journey and everything just fell apart
and the toilets didn't work and everything got backed up.
And that's why they call it the poop Cruise because
just that was the biggest problem they had. They had
a number of problems, but you couldn't go number one,
number two where you could, but it just depending on

(07:39):
where you did to live.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, so yeah, it was supposed to be like a
four day cruise. They were just going from Texas.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Yeah, it was from my Galveston Cozymel and back. Yeah,
and then on the way back they lost.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
They lost power and then they were adrift.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
What do you what are you watching, Kristin anything you
can recommend?

Speaker 4 (07:56):
We watch a lot of reality TV, so no.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
No, no, yeah. And by the way, when we do
talk about TV shows, yes and documentaries, like we are
right now, we got to be careful because somebody will
text this saying no, don't spoil it for me, right, So, like,
what's the rule?

Speaker 2 (08:12):
We are really really I think we're very careful, but
it's hard. Right now, this is like a little British study.
Ask people, well, what's safe if you're going to give spoilers?
Because we all watch at our own pace, and people
are saying, could you wait three to five days after
something's released, okay, where you give a spoiler, but even then,
I don't know. I'm careful.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
I feel like the rules have changed because back when
shows were pretty much only on network TV.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, you appointment watching watching, it doesn't exist.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
It doesn't because people are on their own time frame.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
I want to give people plenty of time. Sometimes you
can't watch during the week and you watch on the weekend.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
Right.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
The Jane Mansfield documentary, I've heard that that is excellent.
That's Marishka Hargata put together. It's not like poop Cruise,
you guys sit, it's a yeah, yes, it's she did
such a beautiful job directing this, like it's got to
win awards. It's it's incredible, all right. And the pe
Wee Herman documentary, Oh Goblin was great, fantastic, Right.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
I forgot we didn't finish that because it was a
two parter, right, yeah, and we watched the first part.
I didn't know there was a second part until like after.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
You watched the first exactly, So it's worth it. So
there is some really good stuff out there, But if
you just have you know, less than an hour and
you want to watch something.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Train Wreck, Poop Cruise, Netflix, well recommend it. Uh huh,
what are you watching? Give us a text four four
three six three. We want to hear from you.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
More Covey and Christine and the great music variety you
expect next on Light F.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Them We are Light A F. McVey Christine, producer Kristin
and uh wow, thank you for finding this story, Christine,
because I got back from Rome last week and I
think I'm over jet lag.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yes, I think, well, because coming back from Europe you're
kind of on our schedule.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Yeah, there's an old saying from a pilot friend of mine.
He said, East least West is best. Oh that's how
you remember when you fly east usually you're getting the
least amount of sleep because you're losing time, and when
you come back, west is best as far as getting
the hours back.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Interesting.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Okay, yeah, so our whole family's kind of recovered from
my Italy trip.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
But going there, going there, oh yeah, you go to
Europe especially. Oh yeah, you're kind of in a daze
for a little while.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Rang correct.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
So yeah, travel experts are talking about jet lag and
how to get over it. And they said, immediately forget
your old time zone and do not take a nap.
They want you to fall right into very true the
clock that you're on, and they say, do what the
locals do. Maybe you need to pop a melowtonin on

(10:44):
the flight. They want you to sleep on the flight
and then get some coffee when you get to your destination,
hit the ground right and just stay up. Yes, but
that's really hard sometimes, especially if you can't sleep on
the plane.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
That's my problem and the whole family. We had issues
sleeping on the plane to Italy. So we check in
our hotel like at one, and we had to take
like a two hour nap. Yes, so we could have
it like a four pm eight pm. Be alert for
that part exactly, and then you go to bed on
their time.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
You almost have to force yourself to wake up though,
because you take that two hour nap, and I know
we just don't want to so well, we can stay here,
but then we miss a date in Rome.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
But this story is so true. Don't worry about the
time zone you left. Worry about where you are right now.
Because I used to be like that. But it's as
in New York.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
You know, you gotta let it go, it go. Unfortunately,
stay hydrated. We're always told to stay hydrated, especially when
we're traveling. And then they said there's an app called
Time Shifter and that will help you with information about
your destination. It lets you know when it's best to sleep,
have caffeine, eat, and get outside.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Very cool. So, hey, you might be hitting the roads
or the airways.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Yeah, so the airports are saying. TSA is saying they
expect Thursday of this week to be like record breaker.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Now, what about driving? What day do I not want
to drive?

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Wednesday?

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Wednesday?

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Triple A says Wednesday, TSA says Thursday.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Oh boy, I'm already seeing the traffic, like the build
up on the Parkway when I leave the station because
I have to, I'm on the Parkway for a little
bit and I drive over the Driscoll And. Yeah, now
that it's summertime, it is.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Buzy southbound Turnpike and Parkway. Yeah, they're crazy this time
of year.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
More Covey and Christine and the great music variety you
expect next on light at them?

Speaker 1 (12:30):
You want a six point seven light at FM Covey
Christine producer Kristin So what's the cheapest hobby somebody can
get into? And this came up on the internet because
it's summertime. Some people have some free time. Not everybody,
but some people have some free time.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
We can't get away.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Maybe can't get away. Maybe you know you're on a budget. Yes,
so you want to find a nice little hobby. So
what is the cheapest hobby somebody can get into? Well,
here is what the world Wide Web is saying. Okay,
Number one. Reading. Yeah, especially when you borrow books. Just
get a library card, go to your local library. Nice. Okay,
it's funny. I've been going to my local library lately

(13:07):
and I kind of enjoy it. Really In East Bruns
with New Jersey. Yes, I asked the lady, go how
many books can you check out at once? What do
you think? The answer was, as many as you want?
One hundred? Oh oh, I'm like what it was like
five or ten? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Work in the day. Yeah right, you can't even carry them.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
So reading is number one. Bird watching number two. There's
a free app actually called Merlin bird Id and you
can actually put the app up and see birds and
they'll tell you what kind of bird it is.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
I do legit take a lot of joy out of
like just watching the birds, the squirrels, whatever is in
my neighborhood.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Nature. Yeah, getting into it too. What is it about?
As we get a little older, we appreciate that, But
when you're a.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Kid, you're like, because it's calm, it's relaxing, it is.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yeah. Number three is writing, you know, just journaling poetry.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
You know, so you journal every day, Cubby.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Every single day. I talk about how lovely you are,
Christine and how you love Taylor Swift. So you can
write about Taylor Swift, Christine in.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Your journal by Taylor Journal Journal Christin.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
I used to.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
Yeah, I feel like I had a diary when I
was a kid.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Number four rock collecting, very cheap hobby. You walk around,
you pick up rocks or minerals. They're also called minerals, right, rocks.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
You can try that with the kids.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Exercise is number five.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Well, it's easier to be active.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Because, you know what, you don't need a gym membership.
You're outside.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
I'm walking every day and you're walking.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Yes, although it could be too hot.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Sometimes it is hot out there. I still make myself
do it, but it is hot.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Chess or board gaming as long as you avoid you know,
board game collecting, try to try to actually get out
there and maybe play some chess.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Okay, that's fun board games or agami.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
There are plenty of instructional videos on YouTube. You can
get into our gami if you're looking for a cheap hobby.
Geo cashing. A friend of mine does this all the time.
He has the geocaching app. It's free and you know,
I think you have to pay for certain parts of it.
But you just walk around town and you you're just
geocash things.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
What does that mean?

Speaker 1 (15:16):
It's like you're marking something or taking a picture of something. Oh,
can you google it for me? I don't know the
exactly answer. I don't do it. My friend my brother
in law, Yeah, I don't know. My brother my brother
Laway does it because I'm geocashing. Really it involves walking around.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
And and kind of sharing where you're at, like just
taking pictures.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Or other people leave. I don't know. Yeah, that sounds
like I'm probably not doing it justice.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
It's like a treasure hunt, an outdoor treasure hunt.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
That's so cute really, like when that Pokemon Remember when
Pokemon came out on the phone. Yes, that's what that's geocashing.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
Kind of because it's like you're using the app on
your phone and you're you know, real time in real
life and with at least the Pokemon, at least you know,
the little characters would show up and it could be
like in your backyard and you had to catch the pokemon.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
This is similar. Okay, yeah, okay, And look I can't
do them all. But cooking is on the list, Drawing,
casual hiking or camping, gardening, lock picking is actually on there.
This this again, if you just tuned in the cheapest
hobby you can get into know about that lock picking,
and of course pick a ball. You know everyone's getting
into pick a ball nowadays. So what's your summertime hobby?

(16:27):
Give us a text at four four three sixty three.
We have a crazy first date.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
Next Cobby and Christine in the morning. More next on
one six point seven light FM. It's Cobby and Christine's
Crazy first Dates.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
So, hi, Kimmy, when did your crazy first date take place?

Speaker 5 (16:45):
So?

Speaker 6 (16:45):
My crazy first date took place a little over three
years ago. It was the summer of COVID.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Oh uh huh.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
So my Instagram w went wild and started sending a
follow request, like half the people on my suggested list,
and I'm trying to take them all away, and one
in particular started messaging me and we were talking, but
I had never met somebody online and I was so nervous,
so I didn't really feel comfortable meeting him. And I

(17:13):
was super busy with family, so I kind of waited
a little bit, but finally we did plan a date
and we went out. Now everything was still outdoor, so
we went to this restaurant. It was out in like
the parking lot, under a tent, and we met up.

(17:33):
My mom brought me because I was so nervous, and
she brought her binoculars to watch because.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
It was so anything by, Like can I ask how
old are you at the time? Were you? Did you
need your mom? Like were you under eighteen or your mom?
I was twenty, you were twenty, but you was still
looking out for you, okay, always we were.

Speaker 6 (17:53):
We were there for a long time and then it
starts to downpour and he's like, do you want to
wait in my car? And he said no quick, I'm scared.
I was like, I'm sure to pass. My hair was cisy,
it was huge, My white pants turned green from my
sprays hand. Oh no, eventually it stops and we walked

(18:15):
over like this overpass to like a Starbucks or whatever.
But we had a nice date. But three and a
half years later we are engaged. Oh oh, it was
really cute. It was just something so funny that we
always remember.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
That is so funny that worked out.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Does your mom though, still follow you guys with binoculars?

Speaker 5 (18:36):
No?

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Okay, that finally is funny.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
Now we do laugh about it.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Wait till you have kids, and what if you'll be
doing the same thing.

Speaker 6 (18:43):
I know. True.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Kimmy right there, Her crazy first date earned her a prize,

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Candils and scissors. There was a lot of scissors and batteries,
rubber bands.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Rubber bands is a big one, and they are they're
in there. Uh huh. So yeah, I kind of like
that junk drawer. It's kind of fun to go through,
just see what's gonna what you're gonna find.

Speaker 2 (20:35):

working around the clock voting and negotiating in the Senate
as they look to pass President Trump's massive spending bill.
There's a cruise ship that is now docked in Broward County, Florida,
with a dramatic rescue story behind it. It's the Disney
Dream and it arrived yesterday after a trip to the Caribbean.

(21:08):
Excuse me, this is the one where the little girl
fell overboard from the fourth deck. She's just four years old.
Her father jumped into saber and then the crew was
able to help her as well.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
So amazing that everybody was okay, But man, what a
scary situation. And everybody who's again.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Okay, everybody's over. Yes, definitely celebrating their return. Fourth of July.
Travel set to surge as millions of Americans hit the road.
So Triple A says the roads are going to be
busiest on Wednesday, and TSA says they're going to be
busiest on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Well, I'm not doing anything on Friday.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Okay, maybe a barbecue. In sports, the Yankees lost to
the Blue Jays five to four. The Mets were off
and Cubby this is important for you to know because
Men's Fashion magazine says it's the return of the speedo.
Oh come on, just in time for this summer really
says they're back in guys, take one for the team.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Do you think no, yeah, don't worry Kristin. I won't.
I won't.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
You don't want to get a little video of Kristin?

Speaker 1 (22:11):

They want espeedo? I obviously am not.

care of some entertainment news though.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
We have to clear something up.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
We do, and it wasn't our fault. It was kind
of everywhere. But you mentioned about Lady Gaga and besos
wedding yesterday right.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
That she was asked to play it his wedding, and
so was Elton John and they both said okay for
six million dollars and Jeff Bezos was like, that's true.
Much money, and so they didn't do it. And now
the story is now they were never even approached.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
Okay. So we weren't wrong when we talked about it.
We were reporting when other people were reporting.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
In our entertainment news.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Yeah, but it got out there so much that somebody
said something and said no, it's not true.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
That's not us. And then I thought you would find
this interesting cubbing Netflix teaming up with NASA to bring
live programming from their NASA Plus platform later this summer,
so you'll be able to see rocket launches, astronauts, spacewalks,
mission coverage, live feeds from the International Space Station.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
I love that. Actually go to NASA's YouTube channel every
now and then and watch just you know, rocks floating by.
I like all that nerdy stuff. You know, I watched
Mars videos every now and then. You know, all the
footage caught on Mars. It's just like I could watch
it for like an hour.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Maybe can put you to sleep. So it sounds like
some white noise it is.
