Speaker 6 (01:17):
All right, good morning, Hey, good morning, gardeners. I got
a little bit of rain coming this this weekend. Just
a little bit, but hey, we'll take it. Sounds good
because when it's so dead gum dry, it is hard
for our plants to obtain the water they need to
survive and do well. I was outside the the day,
(01:42):
digging around in the dirt, and it always sneaks up
on me. I went on and rain for a while.
I mean, I guess if you ask me, has it
rained a while, I'd say no. But I'm just bopping
along doing my stuff and digging in the dirt. Is like, man,
this is dry. Why is so dry? Because it rained?
Just said the day, didn't it? Yeah, the other day
was long time ago, so we could sure use it.
(02:02):
And we're going to get a little bit, not too
much though, still gonna be a good day to be
out and about and getting some things done. Speaking of which,
I'm going to be at the Montgomery Lifestyle Home Show
in Conroe at the Conroe Hyatt. That's kind of down
south and a little to the west of forty five.
So come on out and see me today. I'll be
there from twelve to two. I'll tell you a little
(02:24):
bit more about it as we get going, but I
will tell you this. I'm gonna be giving away some
Nelson plant food products, the Genesis, nutri Star Genesis and
also the color Star, as well as some other law samples.
If you would be interested in getting one, well, you
need to show up today out there. Come on out
and see us. It is time to be getting our
(02:46):
plants in the ground. That's bottom line. Gotta get this
stuff planted because every day that you wait is another
day less that those plants are going to have to
get established prior to the arrival of the inevitable summer
that will be coming. And so our goal is to
(03:06):
try to get things planted and in the ground so
they have every possible day for a route to stretch
a little bit further, a little bit further, to get
out there and be able to establish themselves so when
the demands are there, the root system is as extensive
as we can get it to be. So that is
important to remember that. Take care of your plants, get
(03:27):
them in the ground, give them the advantage. You know,
can you plant a plant in the middle of July,
Absolutely you can, But you got to sit there and
just give it a little bit of water, not too much,
not too little, day by day to get it established successfully.
And so why not make it easier in yourself and
easier on the plants and get them done now, that
would be a good thing. I was just thinking, you know,
(03:51):
we talk about I talk about the ground up and
the soil blends. If they have so many excellent soil blends.
But the Bridmore location also also has plants, and that's
the location you go to, as you know, retail consumers,
that's where we go. The Bretmore location is open to
the public on Saturdays from seven to noon, and that
(04:13):
is the day you have a chance, you know, to
get out there and check it out. Now, Aaron and
his team have a lot of knowledge, a lot of
depends on experience with plants. They just do. And so
when you go there. Now, why am I talking about
a soil place in plants? Well, because for example, I
don't know what if they have like maybe fifteen plus
(04:35):
varieties of red buds, you know that many? Yeah, as
one called forest Pansy, the Hearts of firem are Low
Oklahoma Rising Sun, Ruby Falls and Traveler, or two varieties
that are weeping. They actually the branches come out and
go pendent downward, which is kind of cool. There's a
lot of places where a red bud with that growth
(04:58):
have it would be just awesome. Got another one called
Burgundy Hearts, Cotton Candy, black pearl, bubblegum. I bet you
didn't even know there were that many red buds out there.
They are. We have a bunch of them. Ground up
plant really good selection of plants, lots of things that
you're just not going to find in a lot of
places at the ground up. Now that's the Brentmore location.
No ground Up has three locations, so they can you know,
(05:21):
they can ship your soil out from several different places
out toward the basically most on the west side of
a Greater Houston area. The website, you need to check
it out the ground up dot Com and if you
want to give them a call, here's the call center
number two eight one nine seven oh zero zero zero
(05:41):
three two eight one three. Go pick up one of
the quality bags. Got order bulk if you do, I
think it's a minimum, but three yards three qb yards
for bulk delivery. I have a column. Kind of depends
on a lot of locations or your location and whatnot.
But give them a call or just go buy some
(06:03):
of the local retailers.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
You know.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
Mys Nursery carries ground Up Ciena mulch RCW Nursery carries
ground up Ace Hardware. They're a memorial Ace Hardware and Champions.
There's a lot of im youne go to the ground
up dot Com find out all the locations, but you
need to go check out these plants. That is a
good thing and it is time. It is time to
get that done. Today is Saturday, which means they're open
(06:26):
from seven am to noon, seven am to noon, the
ground up. Get those plants in the ground man, all right,
I was taking care of it. I have had a
computer problem. I don't know, you don't want to hear
about this, but anyway, I've had a computer problem. And
my computer got too much on its brain, and so
(06:49):
it is crawling along and shutting down, and it keeps
telling me I can't do that. I gotta close out
look because I can't think. You've giving me too much
to think about here, and so I'm trying to get
that taken care of and get it reset up, so
among other things, I can do the show without everything
melting down right in the middle of it. But in
(07:10):
the process of that, I ran across a lot of
really good websites with help on plants, and I just
you know that there's a lot of information online period,
I don't care what you're talking about, whatever the topic is,
from plants to politics to you know, plumbing, there's a
(07:32):
lot of good information and a lot of information that's
just not accurate out there, and so I would encourage
you to do what you can to try to find
accurate information. One of the ways we do that, at
least to trying to find information that is research based.
It's not just like, yeah, I tried this one time
and it works, so therefore it's a fact, because that's
(07:54):
not how life works. But research based information. Find one
of our lend universities around the country, and it doesn't
just have to be here in Texas, course Texas. Here
it's Texas A and m LSU, Oklahoma State, New Mexico State,
University of Florida, Cornell, if any of you are listening
from New York, so Langra University up there, and University
(08:16):
of California. Lots of good information, especially down here in
the southeast US, Mississippi State, Auburn, for example, places where
you can get good info. And when you do a
search and look for one of those kinds of sites,
chances are you're getting some pretty good, solid, research based
information or at least better than just in general. And
(08:39):
I would encourage you to be careful with the sources
that you hunt down. Just kind of make sure realize
they you know that everybody, everybody's information is based on something.
It may not be true, but it may it's based
on something somebody's experience or all too often what they
(08:59):
heard some one else say. I cannot tell you how
many mistakes get propagated around the Internet or around people
in general, you know, person to person discussing things. Yeah,
I hear if you do this and this, that works,
and it's just something passed on and they haven't tried it.
And I'm surprised sometimes at the sites that will print
(09:21):
something that I ought to know better, but it's because
someone else said it. Well, maybe it's true and maybe
it's not. I would encourage you to be careful because
you're going to spend money and time out there gardening,
spending money on plants and time and work and effort
doing things. Make sure what you're wondering about is based
(09:42):
on something that's true. If you've got a question about that,
we'll give me a call. You're on garden line. I'll
tell you if I don't know, and at least we
can try to cut through the clutter. You know, maybe
I'll go, yeah, that's true, but you read that in
Kansas based gardening site, and yeah it's true up there,
but not down here in our soils and climate and whatnot.
(10:05):
You get the idea, Well, let's take a little break
there again. I'll give you that phone number seven one three, two,
one two, five, eight seven four. I'll be right back.
I'm I got a question. How many of you have
actually seen a gene Autry movie? I'm small, Let me
cast a wider net. How many of you actually seen
(10:27):
one of the old Western gene Autry It's lash LaRue.
What are those guys name? Oh? Gosh, Roy Rogers? How
can I forget Roy Rogers? How many of you actually
seen one of those? I remember as a kid. Those
things are still on TV, and that was that pretty
amazing stuff. Anyway, if you haven't, you got to go
(10:48):
back and watch one. It's just it's a different time, man,
a different time for sure. But anyway, the singing Cowboys
welcome back to garden Line. I'm not going to sing.
That's my gift to you today, so but I will
answer your gardening question. Seven one three, two one two
five eight seven four seven one three two one two
fifty eight seventy four. Ace hardware stores are loaded up
(11:11):
and ready for spring.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
What do you need?
Speaker 6 (11:13):
You need fertilizers ones I talk about on guardline. Do
you need something to manage pest weeds and diseases? Oh
my gosh, it is the time to talk about weed control,
and I will this morning a little bit as we
get going here. Uh, They've got you covered garden hoses, wielbarrows, rakes,
and shovels, you name it. Whatever you need for your
(11:33):
gardening success is going to be there at Ace Hardware Store.
Your local Ace Hardware store can be found at Ace
Hardware Texas dot com. Acehardware Texas dot com. Uh stores
like also has a All Star Ace on Spring Road
and in Spring on Rayford Road. Excuse me, tangle in
my tongue Deer Park on the east side on Center Street.
(11:55):
Cypress Ace up there on Jones Road. I used to
live just down the street from Cypress A. It's been
there many times. K and M in a Taske casita
on Timber Forest, pat Co Ace on West Willis and
Alvin and let's go out to Katie and we'll go
to Sinkle Ranch Ase on South Mason Road, Single Ranch.
The main thing is just go there, check out what
(12:16):
they have, and you will be very surprised when you
go into your local Ace Hardware stores. I promise you
you're gonna go. I didn't know Ace Hardware carried those
are that you will. I guarantee you that because every
time I go in, I still do. Oh my gosh,
I didn't know they had that. That's it. That's Ace hardware.
(12:36):
Microlife's well the common fertilizers that they also carry there,
you know, Microlife. I was visiting with some folks from
Microlife just this past week. We were both together doing
a training and we're just talking about the different products
they have. You know, the liquid products that they have
makes it really really easy to give plants a quick
boost of whatever you're looking for. And then they're granular products.
(12:58):
We are just on the doorstep now of getting out
the spring fertilizers and Microlife standard just kind of like
the elephant in the room. Fertilizer is the six' two
four green bag number one selling organic fertilizer In, houston
and it's number one because it. Works AND i can
tell you it works Because i've used, it not because
someone told me it. Works i've used. It it's an excellent.
(13:20):
Product there are a lot of other ones. Though they've
got a kind of a pinkish red bag that is
an acidifying, fertilizer and that one is excellent for things
like camellias and azalias and puris And virginia sweet. SPIRE
i use it on, roses anything you want to bring
the pH down a little. Bit it doesn't have to
be an acid loving. Plant maybe one that just likes
to be around neutral on your pH is a little
(13:42):
on the high. Side just over, time fertilized with an
acidic type fertilizer and always be working your way downward
in the pH when when you're dealing with the situation like.
That microlife products they not only have the nutrients and
them like the six two four six percent, nitrogen two percent,
phosphorus four percent, potassium they've got all kinds of micros
(14:06):
because they came from organic. Matter and you, know you
hold up a leaf in your, hand you look at
a cowpie on the. Ground those are all organic. Substances
and they have not just three nutrients in them because
they were once part of a living thing which has
lots of different nutrients in. It microlife fertilizer that, way
and they will provide food for your. Plants they will
(14:27):
support the beneficial, insects and they will also add beneficial
insects beneficial, organisms and they will also add beneficial organisms
to the soil because they're chock full of them in many,
cases specially selected microbes that help fight, disease that helps
stimulate plant. Growth Microlife, fertilizer dot org or dot com
(14:50):
is where you're going to find out a lot more
about these microlife, products including where you can get. Them

Know you may have one that's two thirds green and
one third burned or, something AND i don't. Know if
it were, me i'd leave that for a, while but
get ready to cut it off because you just want
a nice fresh green clump and as soon as the weather,
warms that plant's going to be willing to really grow
and fill back. In right, now it's still kind of, sleepy.

(25:18):
green splotches in. It the petioles of the leaves that
come out of the, base they're they're, greenish but basically
it's damage to the extent THAT i would cut all

if you want to leave it for just a little
while to hedge your bet in case we get one
more coal spell coming, in you can do, That but

Speaker 6 (26:25):
And they hurt. Too by the, way be careful with his.
Ages it's hard to get in. There you kind of
get to get your long looppers out to cut those.
Off but don't be afraid to do. It it will
come back and it'll go back to doing its. Job
isn't supposedly an evergreen uh to hide those those boxes and,
things you, know from, View so it'll be all, right, okay,

ROSES i wonder IF i need to trim them back or.
Speaker 8 (32:21):
Just let them.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
Go they're, fine but they do need to be trimmed.
Back you can take your thumbnail or a knife blade
and scratch the just the outer bark and see if
it's green underneath or if it's kind of papersack, brown
which means it's. Dead two, Options, larry cut them back,
now they'll come. Back i'd cut them near almost to the,
(32:42):
ground or wait and let the plant tell you where
it's alive and start to regrowth and then, regrow and
then just cut it off above. That if it were,
MINE i would probably go ahead and take them back
to the. GROUND i suspect they're killed back that, far
but you can do the scratch test just to make
Sure i'm.
Speaker 14 (32:58):
Right probably taking back to the ground because they look really.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Bad, YEAH i.
Speaker 6 (33:06):
Bet they that's my. Guess that's WHAT i would. Do
it's beautiful, plant beautiful plant.
Speaker 14 (33:14):

a real cool. Program just make sure you, know give
(34:25):
them a call, first make sure they got space and
everything like. THAT i think they'll be. Fine they have,
Potatoes oh my, gosh kennebec white, potatoes and red le,
sodas and on and on down the. Line whatever you
need for, planting they're going to have it in, season
like potatoes right now at plants for all seasons and
much much much. More they are located if you have
(34:47):
been there, before just north Of warduweta comes into two
forty Nine Tomball. Parkway they're right there On Tomball parkway
two eight, one, three seven, six sixteen forty. Six let's
go now to Viider go and talk To ethel this. Morning,
well Hello, ethel and welcome to Garden.
Speaker 15 (35:03):
Line good Morning. SKIP i had called several weeks ago
about the star jasmine THAT i. Have it wasn't looking.
GOOD i checked. Yesterday it is chrispy. Brown So i'm
a SEEMING i need to start cutting it. Back SHOULD
(35:24):
i start from the base or just sort of trim
from the top?
Speaker 6 (35:31):
Down, YEAH i, Would, WELL i would just take your
thumbnails and get out there and scratch, back or take
a little knife and scratch us just the underneath that
little thin bark and just see what looks. Like if it's,
brown that's. Dead of, course now you can have dead,
leaves but the stems still be. Alive so you want
to scratch the. STEM i suspect you're going to have
(35:52):
to cut it back to almost the ground based on
the cold weather we had and where you're. Located but
don't go chop into the ground until you scratch back
and make Sure i'm right about that on your. Plant
But i've got my, jasmine my confederatetizemin is frozen back
to almost the. Ground SO i don't get in a
(36:12):
rush to cut these things, back you. Know but WHEN
i get around to, It i'll cut it. Back but
it's going to probably have to go to the. Ground
mind is?
Speaker 15 (36:20):
Okay WHEN i do? That is there a specific fertilizer
THAT i can use at least to keep it healthy and,
hopefully you, know have it start growing well.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
Again you, know there there are a lot of fertilizers
that it will respond. To you get you a good.
Fertilizer you can go with something that's more of a you,
know just kind of a generic turf type fertilizer to
support that vigorous new growth that's going to come, out
or you can get something specific for flowering, plants Like
(36:53):
nelson has a product called Color star that works very
well for. That just follow the label sprinkled, around scratch
it in the soil surface and watered in real, good
and you'll be good to. Go just, again know that
plant is gonna it's gonna one little more warmth to
really get grow growing, fast and you can't make.
Speaker 10 (37:11):
It you.
Speaker 6 (37:11):
Can't fertilizer will not make something grow if it's too
cool for it to want to. Grow so but once
it starts, growing having that nutrition there is, important.
Speaker 15 (37:20):
Okay because we normally use. Microloss that's pretty much our
go to in anything that we.
Speaker 6 (37:27):
Use so, okay, well in that, CASE i would you
could use the green. BAG i would probably use their
pinkish reddish. Bag it's more of than. Acidifying it's not
gonna make it real acid, overnight don't worry about. That
but either the green bag or the the pinkish red bag,
forcitifier either one of THOSE i would put. That be
(37:49):
generous with it around, there scratch it in real good
to the, surface put a mulch over, it and watered
in real, good and it'll give you a nice good
gradual feeds excellent.
Speaker 15 (37:58):
Fertilizer, okay, great, okay thank you so.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Much.
Speaker 6 (38:04):
All, right ethel thank you appreciate. That there you. Go

you're going to put a plant in the, ground if
you're going to move a plant from one pot to,
another you need to Put nelson Nutri star genesis in

Line good, Morning good, morning skip. MORNING a while back
you told me TO uh to get some some uh
information FROM uh for how TO uh take care of
a peach. Tree AND i read all the things AND
(49:25):
i discovered THAT i didn't THINK i could do the.
Carving so do you have the number of the MAN
i know you all have for that that SO i
could get someone to come in and.
Speaker 4 (49:41):
Do the, work.
Speaker 6 (49:44):
Like the grafting work on your tree or the printing.
Work which what are you looking?
Speaker 3 (49:49):
FOR i don't, Both, OKAY i don't.
Speaker 6 (49:54):
Know, Okay, well grafting is when you've got a tree
that's one type and you want to graft onto it
a different type of, Tree, NO i want To pruning
is just trimming them, back, Okay, okay just want to
make SURE i don't HAVE i don't have a name
of people that go around and do. That But i'll
(50:15):
tell you what you can do is if you go
to The Aggie horticulture Website Aggie, horticulture just search for.
That there is a fruit section and in that section
is a publication on every. Fruit so it's several pages
of color pictures and, stuff and it shows you how
a peach tree should be, pruned and you can JUST i.
Speaker 15 (50:36):
Don't THINK i.
Speaker 4 (50:40):
Read that you gave me that information, before and it
scares me to go, so BUT i know that you
used to have someone that did not necessarily just, that
BUT i can't think of the name of a man
that works and often at it you don't remember it.
Speaker 6 (51:02):
Well not on the pruning. Part and In houston's a
big place, too so you, know announcing some guy that
prunes would be that would. OVERWHELM i tell you WHAT
i would. Do you're in Bel, air why don't you
Call Southwest, fertilizer talk To bob or one of the
(51:23):
team and just, say do you guys know anybody right
down here in this area that would come out and
do pruning or something like. That the alternative of that
would be to get a landscape care company come out
and do, it and that's kind of a that's kind
of an. Overkill you, know you just need somebody to
come out and pruning on a, tree not to set
up a contract with them to take care of the.
(51:43):
Place so BUT i would try The southwest if that is.
Overwhelming there's some really good videos online as well on.
Pruning but it sounds like you're needing somebody just to
come in and get the job done for. You AND
i would talk To bob over At southwest and see
what they. Say you might let's see south Bell. M
(52:08):
trying to think of who else right there might be
a good one to send you. To you could possibly
call one of the. Enchanted they're a little far from,
you but do they know people that do.

Speaker 12 (54:33):
Line wren To, SKIP i sent you a couple pictures
of WHAT i believe are, rosebushes.
Speaker 8 (54:47):
And i'm sure if you got, Them.
Speaker 6 (54:50):
YES i, did and you're wanting to do some cuttings from.
THEM i guess.
Speaker 12 (54:53):
Right, Well, skip those bushes are sitting in In Abandon
than parking, lot and WHEN i drive by that park
lot in nicer, weather they have what looked like some
of the nicest flowers on, them AND i believe they're.
Speaker 8 (55:14):
Roses, roses.
Speaker 14 (55:16):
But, yes if in fact there.
Speaker 8 (55:19):
Roses What i'd like to do is get some.
Speaker 18 (55:22):
Cuttings off of them with the intentions of getting them
into the point WHERE i could replant them in my.
Yard AND i need you to chill me if you
can the best way for me to do.
Speaker 6 (55:37):
That all, Right, Well i'm going to answer your question
in this. Way how do you take cuttings from rose? Bush,
now as far as the property that you don't own and,
roses you, KNOW i must stay away from that. One
but if you could find out who owns, it that
would that would be better than going up and chopping
(55:58):
on people's. Bushes but, anyway roast, cuttings you can take
roase cuttings pretty much all. Year hard dormant season cuttings
are a little bit more difficult to, root but they
can be rooted in dormant season a lot of. Times
with most. Plants the semi hardwood cutting is a good
way to. Go and a semi hardwood cutting is you
(56:20):
get succulent new growth coming out and then it begins
to become more. Woody you, know it goes from succulent
to woody in between those. Two that's a semi hardwood
cutting and those tend to root very. Well you want
a section of, cutting OH i generally make mine about
four or five inches, long probably more like five inches,
(56:43):
long and then not four and take the leaves off
the bottom half of the, cutting leave the leaves on
the top. Half dip it in a rooting. Hormone now
when you cut, it you want to cut the bottom
of it at a. Slant and you can even take
your knife and make a little bit of a scrape
wound near the bottom of the, cutting up on the
(57:03):
stem of the cutting there a little, bit and what
will happen is that wound will. Callous it'll start to
form that callous, growth and from the callous comes the.
Roots and so by doing that scraping first and then
dipping it in a rooting hormone and then putting it
into a moist, mix cover it with something clear so
(57:24):
it gets plenty of. Light but don't put it in direct.
Sun just give it a really bright, light but not
direct sun because it'll cook it inside that clear cover
and you don't want, that and it'll take a while
to get them. Rooted but that is the best way
to go about on a rose.
Speaker 19 (57:41):
Cutting, okay could you suggest WHEN i heard you say rooting.
Speaker 10 (57:53):
Hormone is that soil.
Speaker 6 (57:55):
Related, no it's a typically a white. Powder there are
liquid forms of it, Available and if you go to
a garden, center you, know our an ace hardware store
in your, area they're going to carry the probably a
type of rooting. HORMONE i, KNOW i know garden centers,
do AND i suspect most ace hardware stores are going
(58:17):
to have some some rooting hormone powder in the garden
section as. Well and it doesn't matter if it's powder or,
liquid both of them will will, work, okay and just
just a good roads and just a good roads.
Speaker 8 (58:34):
Soil.
Speaker 6 (58:37):
Uh, well, first you're going to start off with something
very light and, loose like a potting, soil or even
more of the, vermiculate the the or the, pearlite the
little white things in. It because you want, excellent excellent.
Drainage you're only going to put this cutting in the
ground about an inch or two okay at the, MOST i,
say in the ground in the rooting in the potting,
(59:00):
sow you're only gonna put about an inch or two
deep in the. Cuttings the rootel form primarily on the
bottom of that cutting or where you scraped. IT i
got to run for a break, here a hard, break
but good luck with, That. DENNIS i do appreciate your
call AND i wish you very, well uh success in.
That it is fun to do your own rooting of
cuttings and. Things, uh it's time for a, break. Folks
(59:21):
i'll be right back if you'd like to give me a.
Call seven one three two one two five eight seven
four seven one three two one two fifty eight seventy.
FOUR a little un chain melody on a Lovely Valentine's.

(01:00:06):
how DO i kill? It put it in a, bag
bring it, in we'll tell. You i'll help you with.
That the clinic is. Open the Plant clinic is open
today at The Montgomery Lifestyle Home show at The Conroe.
Hyatt so come on out and see me twelve to,
two twelve to. Two the folks at Pest Bros are
(01:00:26):
the experts when it comes to properly managing all kinds
of past. Problems if it's got four legs or six,
legs they know what to do about it all. Right
so that would be you, know those rats and mice
to get in the. House the raccoons are bouncing around
up there in the attic making noise at. Night, listen
Pest Bros knows exactly where they're getting, in how to stop,
(01:00:48):
them how to find out you, know what might be
in there and shut it. Down and then when it
comes to the six legged creatures like, termites like fire,
ants like silverfish and cockroach and other things mosquitoes flying around,
outside they're the place the pestbros dot, com thepestbros dot.
Com they know how to treat effectively so that it works.
(01:01:12):
Right they know how to treat in the safest possible.
Manner because you want long term, results but you don't want.
Worries that's why you need to call the Pest. Bros
two eight one two o six forty six seventy two
eight one TWO o six four six seven. Zero let's
now go to the heights and we're gonna visit With
(01:01:33):
edward this. Morning Hello, Edward welcome to garden.
Speaker 8 (01:01:36):
Line how's it going?
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Today doing?
Speaker 6 (01:01:42):
Good how can we?
Speaker 9 (01:01:42):
Help i'm having trouble Early asian.
Speaker 8 (01:01:47):
Jasmine i'm embarrassed to.
Speaker 9 (01:01:49):
Say, OKAY i planned probably two or three flats and
they are just not doing well at.
Speaker 6 (01:01:59):
Amos all, Right So asian jasmine success is based on
a couple. Things it will put up with some, shade
but it needs. Light it needs. Light in, fact it
lack of. Light even if it, survives it's vigor and
growth and fill rate is going to be greatly. Reduced
so the more light you can give it doesn't have
(01:02:21):
to be in the full sun all, day but the
more light you can give it it, gets the better
off it's going to. Do it needs good. Soil you,
know if it were to if you were to ask
it what kind of soil do you? Want it would, say,
well a nice woodland soil where there's lots of organic
matter and it's loose and there's good moisture and nutrient.
Content so anything you can do to provide that in
(01:02:42):
the way of soil good. FERTILIZATION i would get a
lawn fertilizer AND i would fertilize it just like you
were fertilizing your lawn with the lawn, fertilizer AND i
would do it several times during the season to keep
that growth moving. Along don't let it dry out if
it's a new, plant especially that little you know pot
(01:03:03):
that it came out. Of that's a little wad of
roots now in the ground and it can't reach out
very far to get. Moisture so you have to water
the new plants much more often once they're, established not as,
often but it does want moist. Soil your goal is
to make it happy and, vigorous and that takes, nutrients
and that takes, water and that takes.
Speaker 9 (01:03:20):
Sunlight, okay well'll give it a.
Speaker 8 (01:03:24):
SHOT i appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (01:03:27):
All, Right, well good luck, There, Edward thank you for the.
Call appreciate that this. Morning you, KNOW i always say
on Guarden line the secrets of gardening success is learning
to see things from a plant's point of. View and
each plant has things that it wants regarding light and
water and drainage and temperatures and soil types and everything like.
That and the more we can kind of move the
(01:03:48):
situation the plants in in that, direction the happier the
plant is going to. Be so that makes a lot
of sense to, me at LEAST i bet it does
to you. Too if you're up In, willis you've got
The Growers outlet is your home town garden. Center Growers

put a brand new powder coating on. It it's a paint,
process but it's not wet. Paint it's dry powder that
is drawn into the metal and melts into the metal
surface with an electrostatic. Charge it's really a cool process
that they. Do so you know those nooks and, crannies
like if you spray paint at your furniture and you
(01:06:33):
try to get in those crannies and you try to
get it in there and you end up with runs
going down the side of the. Medal this just automatically
pulls right into those spaces and it gives really, good long,
lasting very durable. Coverage and guess, what you can pick

was talking about microlif fertilizers, earlier and a number of
the micro life products are chalk full of. Bioinoculants for,
example you get some of The microlife citrus and it's
got The Microlife, supreme Which Microlife supreme is a bioinocula
(01:09:08):
that Has are you ready for? This Microlife supreme has
seventy six different species of beneficial microbes that includes endo
and ectomycrohizal. Fungi and you're, going why are you saying those?
Words because they grab a hold of the root of the,
plant they reach out from there they bring nutrients to
the plant they surround the. Root they protect against. Diseases
(01:09:32):
lots of good stuff going on there in terms of
The trichoderma another whole, group and then various types Of
bacillus and other bacteria that are. Beneficial it's already in
the new. Ingredient so when you look And i'm going
to Use microlife citrus just as an, example when you
look at their citrus fertilizer and others are this. Way
(01:09:52):
you're getting the nutrients the numbers on the, bag but
you're getting organic, material the organic matter that is based
on and then you're getting all of these microbes that
are chuck full on every. GRANULE i, mean no wonder
plants grow when you Put microlife fertilizers on them and
other microlife. Products they're built around microbial. LIFE i wonder
(01:10:15):
if that's why they named a. MICROLIFE i bet it.
Is there you, Go when is the last time you're

when you talk about value for your, money when you
can go to a place where they have a great,
selection way better than other, places great selection and good
(01:13:48):
prices on. Them but then you get the advice, like,
yeah you, know for your spot, THERE i wouldn't put
this plan. In that's not it's going to want more
shade or sun or. Whatever it's going to want something.
Else YEARS i would put these plants, In and what
did you just? Do you just save money and time
and frustration and wasted. Effort, right you don't want any of.
(01:14:09):

Speaker 6 (01:17:57):
Gas you Did, Sunday, hey, folks welcome back to Guard
(01:18:40):
line on a Good Saturday. SATURDAY i was looking at
the weather and. Stuff get a little bit of rain,
Here but you know, what it's just a passing. Thing
we're not gonna worry about. That in, fact we're glad
to have a little bit of.
Speaker 8 (01:18:54):
It it.
Speaker 17 (01:18:55):
Is it is.
Speaker 6 (01:18:56):
Spring IF i had to go, outside if it was
a tour in the rain AND i had to go
outside in a, RAINCOAT i Think i'd still still be
out in the, garden not digging the. Soil not a
good day for. That but, boy what a good day
to be out getting some stuff. Done i've got a
lot of spring clean up to. Do some of my
perennials and THINGS i haven't cut back. YET i always
(01:19:17):
tell YOU i tend to. Wait it's not a black
and white rule on. It BUT i like to be
a little conservative and little, careful just to see what
the next frost is going to be or if we
have another. One we're hitting a point now where week
by week the chances of a frost are dropping. Precipitously
there you. Go if you look at the, average, now
(01:19:38):
the average doesn't tell you anything about the. FUTURE i
want you to think about this. Minute the average last
frost date does not tell you much about the, future
because every year can be. Different you, know if one,
year the let's just, say, OH i don't, know the
average last frost date was wherever you, live depends on
(01:19:59):
the part he, loves gonna be some, time probably in
Late february Early march for most of my listening. Area
well let's just say even a little bit later In
march for some of you up. North let's just say one,
year the average frost, date let's just say it's gonna
Be march, first just to pull a number. Out but
one year it could be the end Of january you
(01:20:20):
have your last, freeze and then another year it could
be toward the end Of april that you have a.
FREEZE i, mean that's, rare but it's. Possible so average
doesn't mean. Much it just means in, general it is
about when it. Ends but every year gets to be
its own. Year think about. That it's kind of like rolling.
Dice if you roll dice and you got let's say
(01:20:41):
seven total to, paradise you got a, seven and you
rolled it three times and got a. Seven now you're gonna, think,
Well i'm not gonna get a seven next. Time, no
it's the same chance next time of getting a seven
as any other. Number and that's how these frost and
freeze things. Are we can look at the, average but
that doesn't mean. ANYTHING i, mean it just means that
(01:21:03):
more likely than not if things in the future are
like they were in the, past which, well there's a big, assumption,
uh that we're passing the date when it's safe to.
Plant so you just have to kind of look ahead
at the weather and then get your crystal ball out
and decide when that date's going to. Be the main
thing is just get out there and enjoy. Gardening that's
(01:21:25):
the fun. Part let's let's head The Texas city this.
Morning we're going to go visit With allan In Texas. City, Hey,
alan welcome to Garden.
Speaker 8 (01:21:33):
Line thank, you good. Morning my.
Speaker 5 (01:21:37):
Question i'll be putting my pre emerging out. Today hopefully
the bag talks about so many pals for square Foot,
OKAY i could figure out my square, footage but it's the,
uh how to set a fertilizer spreader The creton number
AND i got one through fifteen on, mine AND i
just don't want to put too much or too little,
(01:21:58):
Down SO i just that's the part of caning figure.
Speaker 6 (01:22:01):
Out. Okay, well a lot of, times, yeah a lot
of times fertilizers will have that on the bag where
you you, know you just look at the bag and
it'll tell you exactly what the setting needs to be
for each of the each of the different kinds of
(01:22:21):
things you're going to put. Out so WHAT i would recommend,
doing there's a lot of good there's a lot of
good information that's available to. That but if you don't
have a fertilizer that tells you what kind of setting
to set on the particular spreader that you, have here
is best. Shot, okay if it's a walk behind spreader
(01:22:45):
that you're, putting this is for pre emergent. Herbicide because
that was your. Question anyone listening that's got the same,
question for, fertilizers that's, different. Folks for pre emergent. Herbicides
on a walk behind, spreader you want to put the
setting on notch or so above one. Quarter so if
there are twenty, notches then it would be on five or,
(01:23:07):
six so on a, quarter a quarter the way up
or a little above. That and if it's a walk behind, spreader,
okay so if you had ten, notches then you'd be
looking at two or.
Speaker 20 (01:23:20):
Three, yeah, okay the month of, fifteen some look like
around four.
Speaker 8 (01:23:26):
Or five in.
Speaker 6 (01:23:28):
About. Four but here's something to keep in. Mind when
you put too much, out you can't pick it back,
up but if you put too little, out you can
change the setting and go back over it. Again SO
i often will go light and go one way across
the lawn with the plan on having to go the
other way. Across Maybe i'll try to do half right north,
south half east, west and that way you get the best,
(01:23:51):
coverage because on these pre, emergence anywhere where you don't
get granules, landing you're not going to get. Effectiveness so,
coverage even coverage is very, critical.
Speaker 20 (01:24:01):
All, right, correct GUESS i normally DO i would normally
do it like that and also moment you heard that
a way too so alrighty.
Speaker 6 (01:24:08):
Good sounds like you're on the right track. There all, Right,
ellen you take care all? Right uh At Jenny forrest,
Done Richmond. Rosenberg they're. Stocked you should see the police go.
In check out the, vegetables check out their their, beautiful
beautiful selection of color. Plants oh my, gosh what do you?
(01:24:28):
Need do you want a? Shrub do you want a?
Rose do you want something For Valentine's day as a gift?
Plant they've got. That do you want beautiful landscape? Color
the selection that they have on all their plants add
intended forests. Done Richmond rosenberg area is just. Outstanding it
is outstanding and it always is. There and the folks
(01:24:48):
know what they're talking. About they're going to be able
to help. You, uh it is time to get out. There.
Now there's a plant we don't talk about, much but
it's it's the deciduous. Magnolias and there's a lot of
different kinds of deciduous, magnolias but there's. One and what
is the decidrous. Magnoia, well it's a shrub type. Plant
sometimes some are almost tree, sized but a shrub type
(01:25:08):
plant that loses all the sleeves in the winter and
then in the spring before a leaf comes. On it
has these, beautiful, beautiful typically pink or white colored blooms
that are just. Stunning there's one Called jane that's a
real common. One jane's got lots of, strappy beautiful, petals
and they've got those an enchanted forests down The Richmond rosenberg.
(01:25:30):
Area here's the website you need to write this Down Enchanted, Forest, RICHMOND.

Speaker 10 (01:26:08):
Four.
Speaker 6 (01:26:09):
Listen all gardening starts in the. Soil brown stuff before
green stuff means before you PLoP a poor plant in an.
Unprepared plot fix the, soil make it. Happy they live
in their. Roots the roots need to be. Happy the
happier the, roots the happier the. Plant the happier the,
plant the happier you will. Be so start with the.
(01:26:29):
SOIL cna mal it's a great place to do. That

nice and quality tools from the folks AT a AND. M.
Leonard it's a one stop shop for. Homeowners you want,
success start At Siena. Mulch they carry all the. Fertilizers

Micro life And medina and nitrofoss And nelson Turf star
and The Nelson. Jars heirloom, soils soils like the veggie
(01:27:33):
and herb, mix and even products like azimite are there
At Sienna. Bulch main things just need to. Go let's
head out To hockey and talk To rusty this. Morning Hey,
rusty welcome to garden.
Speaker 8 (01:27:46):
Line good, Morning good. Morning got a couple of. QUESTIONS
i made some planner Boxes i'm wanting to fill up with.
Soul was wondering what you might.
Speaker 16 (01:27:59):
Need just.
Speaker 8 (01:28:02):
It's all uh, vegetable, yeah all.
Speaker 6 (01:28:06):
Vegetables. Yeah uh, well let's see you're there in the hockey.
AREA i WOULD i would use the vegione ner mix
for mair loom. Soils that's a good. One it's an excellent. Product.
Uh the folks At Nature's way make a really good vegetable.
Mix there's a vegetable mix for the folks for the
folks there at the ground up as. Well, uh you,
(01:28:27):
know get out there in The hockley.
Speaker 8 (01:28:28):
Area, YEAH i heard you talking about ground up last,
week SO i might give them a, call but just
a vegetable. Mix, Yeah, uh what's? That what's? That once that's,
in do DO i need to fertilize right away or?
Wait or?
Speaker 3 (01:28:50):
Uh in?
Speaker 6 (01:28:51):
General when you have, yes in, general when you have
a brand new bed mix put, IN i always give
a little extra nitrogen for the first. Season and it's
because there's a lot of decomposing organic materials and it
just kind of gives it a better. Boost it's not,
required but that's just my tip for. YOU i have
found that to be. Helpful but you, know with where
(01:29:12):
you're located up there in, hockey you know you're you're
going to be pretty much you'll be very close to
both nature's way and the ground up as far as
getting deliveries and stuff like that up to.
Speaker 8 (01:29:25):
You, yeah, okay.
Speaker 15 (01:29:29):
Check.
Speaker 8 (01:29:29):
It, well check a. Question i've made these planter boxes
out of a treated fence picket's, basically DO i need
to line those.
Speaker 6 (01:29:42):
BEFORE i put you, Know, rusty that's a that's a. Debate,
yeah that's a debate that will never.
Speaker 2 (01:29:47):
End.
Speaker 6 (01:29:48):
Uh people that are a little concerned about treated wood
will definitely want align it with plastic or something to
keep the wood away from the. Soil BUT i can
tell you this from a research, standpoint we just don't
know that there is a concern for. That they've done
testing and those those treatment, products the modern ones are
not as concern as the older ones, were and they're
(01:30:10):
made to not leach out much because that's how they
keep the wood. Protected if they leached, out the wood
would not be. Protected so the tendency to be a
problem is very very. Low BUT i leave that up
to the gardener to make their own decision on.
Speaker 8 (01:30:26):
Understood now the last question pre emerging herber. Side i'm
about to put some. Down they're not, falls.
Speaker 6 (01:30:34):
OKAY i, water yes for or act not, before but
yes after after you put out night fuss, barricade you
want to put on about it about a third of
an inch of water just to get it washed off
that granule and into the soil because that's where it
goes to. Work make sure you follow the label and
(01:30:54):
get good even coverage because if you're a coverage is,
sporadic your weed controls could be.
Speaker 8 (01:31:00):
Rot i'm, done thank you very, much.
Speaker 6 (01:31:04):

(01:36:17):
always need some of. That that's magic. Stuff oh. GOSH
i you know a lot of people when they go,
shopping they want to buy a little plant that's a
big giant flower on. It AND i know you you're
the one that picks it out by the, flower right
you see this. Flower so they'll be they'll be two
salvias and one of them's got to bloom on them
and the other one. Doesn't and which one do you?
(01:36:38):
Pick the one with a bloom on?
Speaker 13 (01:36:39):
It?
Speaker 6 (01:36:39):
Right, Well i'm telling you this the one without. Blooms
it's putting all its energy into. Growth AND i actually
go that. DIRECTION i look at the plant. Itself when
you go and pick one of those, out and the
same you, Know it's just true that when you want
a quality, plant you got to get it in the.
Ground you got to get it and it's strongest form
(01:37:01):
as fast as you. Can roots need, Energy roots need.
Nutrients that is uh and the plant. Itself make sure
and water the regularly to keep the root ball moist
because the soil may be wet around. Them but that
little water roots you pulled out of the pot that
needs moisture as, Well so you got to take care of.
That that is the way we do. It if you
(01:37:23):
are out in the east In, kingwood you got to
go To Kingwood Garden center and Warren Southern gardens are
Open monday Through saturday nine to four And, sunday that's

(01:37:46):

Park kingwood is On Stone, hollow but get over, there

(01:38:08):
Garden center wonderful places to go this. Weekend as a
matter of, fact let's take a. Break we'll be right.
Back welcome back to Garden. Line on a Lovely Valentine's.
Day what a good, Day what a good.
Speaker 8 (01:38:26):
Day.
Speaker 6 (01:38:29):
Now i'm, LIKE i like to Say i'm, biased but
that doesn't mean i'm. WRONG i may be, wrong but
just because i'm biased doesn't mean i'm. Wrong for, Example
i'm biased toward. Plants i'm biased toward. Gardening but it
is a good. Thing it is a very good. Thing
it's good for your, health mental, health physical. Health i'm
biased on the way THAT i would, say give flowers
On Valentine's. DAY i, know cut. Flowers that's the. Thing
(01:38:52):
people do. It every parking, lot gas station's got a
tent in it right, now sell flowers off the. Roadside that's,
fine go for, it do. That but why give a
dozen roses when you can give dozens of roses that
lasts for. Years, ah there's a, point, right think about.
That give a rose bush and you know, what if
(01:39:13):
you really really want to do something special for, somebody
not don't just give them the planet, itself but go
plant it for them or with. Them maybe there's a
shut in in your, family you, Know grandma or somebody.
Else it could be a neighbor that you kind of
look out for and. Stuff going over there and planting
(01:39:34):
it for, them and you know they have them with
you there when you do. It it's just a. Memory
it's an absolute memory that they you talk about feeling
loved when someone comes and does something for, you takes,
time gives you some, attention takes some, time gives you
gifts and things that's. Special and there's nothing like getting
(01:39:55):
a rose bush and going out and planting it for,
somebody getting the soul, ready getting it. PLANTED i know
it's extra, work but, listen real meaningful moments in. Life all,
right HERE i. Go i'm, meddling but it's, true it's.
RIGHT i Know i'm right on. This really meaningful moments
in life or not just HERE i bought this, There
Happy Valentine's, Day real meaningful moments in life or when
(01:40:17):
you get people time and when you give a, gift
it keeps giving and that would be a rose. Bush
this could be a. Camellia there's another great idea For Valentine's.
Day camellias, pink, white red blooms in winter. Time some
types bloom a little earlier decemberish. Time some types of
bloom a little. Later january is time your local independent
(01:40:41):
garden center can get you pointed at the right. One all,
Right i'm doing my, best. Guys i'm trying to get
you out of the. Doghouse but more than, That i'm
trying to help you find a meaningful. Gift and, boy
it is so meaningful to do, that all. RIGHT i,
mean you could get me a pair of prunters For Valentine's,
day AND i think it was a good a good.
Deal but let's aim a little more romantically than a
(01:41:04):
pair of brunners and go with a. Rosebush that sounds
like a good win win in my. Opinion, listen if
your lawn is needing to be, replaced or if it
just was a mess last year and you've lost so
much of, it that's, like, YEAH i, QUIT i, can't
this isn't. Working get it cleared off, there get somebody cleared,
(01:41:25):
off or do it yourself and then give all seasons
turf grass a. Call All Seasons turf is a premier
provider of turf in this Area all. Seasons turf Dot
com is the website. Listen they have thousands of acres
thousands of acres of grass growing, up multiple farms all over.
Town family owned business been around since two thousand and
(01:41:48):
four here in The Greater houston. Area they harvest turf year.
Round they have full turnkey. Options they don't do the,
planting but they work with people that can do the.
Planting so if you just SAY i want this turf
from you AND i need it, planted they'll get it
all arranged and get it out. There the best THING
i can tell you about turf the best, tip, well
(01:42:09):
actually there's two. Tips Number, one plant turf that wants
to grow. Here plant a variety that fits the spot
you're growing it. In if it's a lot of, shade
you need A Saint augustine or a fine Textured zoysia
for the shadier. Spots they can tolerate. It they don't
want to be in all that, shade but they can
tolerate that shape better than bermudas and broader types of.
(01:42:32):
Leaves textures in. General i've got xeon zoysia in my
yard and i have. Palisades xeon's a fine textured, palisades
is a broad textured. Zoisia they both are available At
All Seasons turf. Grass and it's not just. Seysias it's,
(01:42:53):
zoysias it's bermuda, grass It's Saint augustine's and many varieties
of each One All Seasons. Turf the, second and this
is very, important is it needs to be dug and
planted the same, day if at all. Possible so if
you see a palette sitting there and two days later
you're going to plant, it you are really shooting yourself
(01:43:13):
in the. Foot it may be a live, ish but
it is. Struggling it's already got gray leaf spot all over.
It if it's been stacked up in that humid stack
and a, palet just go Call All Seasons turf two, eight, one, three, seven,
five seventy five oh. Five let them send you some fresh.
Turf you can go pick it up out there. Too
(01:43:33):
they're about ten miles west of ninety nine up in
The brookshire. Area it's open to the, public but give
them a. Call order it. Online go To all seasonsturf
dot com and order it. Online they will deliver it
for a delivery. Charge they'll give you all the details
about that when you, call how far they deliver and
what it costs and all that kind of. Thing how
many pallets you need to have to get delivery and all.
(01:43:53):
That But i'll tell you, this you're not going to go.
Wrong these Folks Family Mama Pop operation and they know
what they're doing and they have quality, turf quality. Turf
so if you're going to have to replace turf this,
year get your plans in, order get things ready to.
Go level that ground out very. Important to level the ground,
out by the. Way you, know you don't want bumps
(01:44:15):
and humps and everything. Else if you got some low
roots sticking up and you need to kind of get
some soiling around, them go ahead and fill that soiling
around the. Roots get it all leveled out and ready to,
go so when it's time to, plant you can get that.
Done if you got any perennial, weeds maybe you've been,
fighting you, know a particular, weed maybe you got To
(01:44:36):
Saint augustine lone and it's got bermuda in, it you
need to wait until that bermuda is, growing and you
need to spray it and kill, it and then you
need to wait another couple of weeks because you're probably
not going to get it all and you'd spray it.
Again because when you got bermuda and You're Saint, augustine
that is a battle that is very difficult to. Win
there are ways to do, it but not simple for
the average homeowner to get that. Done get the weeds
(01:44:59):
out of the, way get the leveling out of the,
way get it ready to. Go we need some warm
weather to get those weeds growing so you can spray.
Them don't spray it, now it's not going to do much,
good but let it get a little bit warmer and
then spray. It wait a couple of, weeks spray again
in order that when you put down your turf it
has its best shot and you're not right back in
the weed problem. Immediately that's a tip on getting your
(01:45:23):
turf in good. Shape all. Right andy Jedd ester From
medina is going to be UP i was saying. Earlier
she's going to be up there and willis At we
had talked about that just a minute. Ago heading up
To willis to Hear andy she's gonna be talking about
spring gardening tips and things like. That that's at the
(01:45:46):
growers outlet by the, way just south Of willis on seventy.
Five But andy's With medina and when it comes to
a nice array of products that work of all. TYPES i,
MEAN i could spend the whole show just talking about
different types Of medina. Products but there's a lot of
good ones out. There they Got hozen sprayer products The
(01:46:07):
medina has to grow for. Lawns it's a twelve or
eight product does really. Well there's another one's got sixteen
percent nitrogen THAT i really. Like it's a good boost of.
Nitrogen they've got humate, products they got seaweed, products they
got fish and motion, products and then they Have Medina.
Plus Medina plus is the Old medina soil, activator one
of the things that Made medina, famous medinasol. Activator Medina.
(01:46:30):
Plus they've chalked it full of forty different trace. Elements
lots of plant benefiting things like hormones and vitamins and
whatnot are all in. There But Medina plus is a
product that really. Works it increases the blooming and the leaf.
Growth it promotes fruit. Set if you're going to, transplant
you can do The medina plus for transplanting as well
(01:46:50):
for seed. TREATMENTS i know people that mix up some
medina plus water and they soak their seed in it.
Overnight let's say you're going to put out, oh let's
say oak or pento beans or. Something you soak it
in some of that medina plus water at the proper rate,
overnight and then the morning pour it. OFF i drive
it outside of the seat, off so it's easier to plan.
THEM i usually roll them on a paper towel and
(01:47:12):
then go out and, plant and you will see benefits
from that as. Well all, right all from the folks
At Medina sick a little. Break we'll be right back
with our last segment in just a moment if you'd
like to give me a. Call seven one three two
one two five eight seven. Four all, right, folks welcome

making that, happen don't look any for other Than. Peerscapes
the folks At peerscapes they know what they're. Doing they've
been doing this for a very long time here in
The houston area since nineteen eighty. Eight as a matter of,
fact the folks that they have hired their, employees most
of them have BEEN i think the average is like
over ten years. Long some some been around for over
(01:48:20):
twenty five. Years with, them they while distinguish, landscape, irrigation, drainage, backflow,
pesticide all those certifications and licenses and. Stuff we're talking about,
professionals not just people who know which end of a
shovel to stick on the. Ground we are talking about.
Professionals and if you look at the work they, do
you will see exactly. That go To pierscapes dot, com

so those pansies and petunias and, biolas excuse, me pansies and,
violas the dianthus and listens and other things that we've

help you identify those, weeds identify the plant problems that you.

recommend you, do talk a little bit about spring gardening,
tips answer your gardening. Questions we're gonna have some samples
from the folks At Nilson Plant food on hand to
give away. Today i'm gonna have some copies Of Texas
(01:50:25):

guide From Texas gardener is an incredible, resource especially for
those of you who are kind of new to the.
Area you KNOW i haven't gardened here, before or that
you have but just kind of been hitt and. Miss
you got to get your. Copy The Planning guide is
an incredibly helpful. Resource it's gonna tell you day by,
(01:50:46):
day month by month as you go through what you
need to. Do it's got some other very helpful features in.
It and come on buy And i'll show you a.
Copy i'll be at The Montgomery Livestyle Home. Show i'm

they look. Like i'm gonna actually give one away or
two while we're up, there so who, knows maybe you'll
win one when we're. THERE i have copies of my
schedule on hand and other, things SO i hope you
(01:51:07):
can come out and join us for. That what are
you going to do this year that you haven't done?
Before it's a common question THAT i ask here on
Garden line because we can get kind of in a gardening.
Rut you, know we do the same thing and that's about,
it and not try anything to. Do what are you
going to try? Different, WELL i have an. Idea i've
got a thousand ideas for things. Different but if you
(01:51:31):
have planted roses, before if you haven't planted, roses or
if you haven't had success with, roses you need to
get a quality rose bush that's a disease resistant to
make it easy for. You and a good independent garden
center can point you to the right. One they have,
them they know what to. Do you need to do.
That but here's another. Idea how about. Fragrance what in
(01:51:52):
your landscape is? Fragrant AND i don't mean like if
you go shove your nose in the. FLOWER i mean
if you walk out side you smell something and you're going,
whoa where is that perfume coming? From that kind of.
Fragrance lots of really good options out there for. THAT
i was talking earlier about someone that had star jasmine
(01:52:13):
also Called confederate jasmine that had frozen. Back oh my,
Gosh i've got it on my back. Fence that is a,
fragrant fragrant plant and it's gonna have to regrow because
we had a really really hard cold spell, here or
kill my. Back but that's. Okay it'll come. Back it'll
come back stronger than it was before because all that
root energy is still down there, underground, undamaged so it'll
it'll put put a new top back on another. One almond.
(01:52:37):
Verbina if you've never smelled album, verbina you gotta go
to a mom and pop inte minute garden center and
say where's the almond? Verbina wait until summer or it
warms up a little bit. More there may be some
at the garden. Centers NOW i haven't checked for that particular,
plant but oh my, gosh what a, fragrant pleasant perfume
(01:52:58):
that puts in the. Air if you don't some, gatty
did you know fragrances can be, Gaudy they CAN i
had a fourth grade don't tell, anybody But i'm not
going to use her, name BUT i had a fourth
Grade english teacher and she put perfume on with a turkey,
BASTER i, swear and we would all just like walk
(01:53:20):
in the room and it's like your eyes start. Water
but that was goudy. Anyway but if you're looking for
our real gaudy, Fragrance Texas Mountain. Laurel it's got purple
flowers that look like clusters of grapes singing. Down and
that's what it smells, like grape Kool, aid grape Super.
Bowl who's listening to me and remembers super bubble bubble?
(01:53:40):
Gum does that even exist? Anymore super? Bubble there's a
regular kind of pink. Kind and then they had a
purple one that was the. Grape and that smell is
exactly What Texas Mount laurel smell. Like if you remember,
that let me know when you. Call but, Anyway Texas
Mount laurel is a wonderful. Fragrance but it's a strong,
one absolutely strong. One and there are many many other.
(01:54:03):
Plants what fragrant plant or plants are you gonna add
to your? Landscape this. Year i'll give you a quick
tip on. Fragrance if you've got a patio or a
porch that you like to go out and sit, on
why not put that plant to the southwest or west
or south of that. Porch the prevailing winds in the
(01:54:23):
summer are from the south southwest that, direction and if
you put the plant there when things warm. Up most
of our fragrant plants or warm season. Plants there's one
or two that are fragrant in the cool. Season but
why not put it where you can enjoy that fragrance
Most or you can put it in the northeast corner
of your property and your neighbors can enjoy it because
(01:54:45):
it's gonna blow over in there. Yard, yeah fragrant. Plants
good thing to. Add you need to do that. Again
The Montgomery Lifestyle Home show today at two or season at.
Twelve i'll be there until two twelve to. Two Montgomery
Lifestyle Home show at The Conro, Hyatt South Conro come,
(01:55:06):
on buy and see. Me i'll bring me some. Samples
that would be a good. Time take a little break,
here go out and pull some, weeds put them in a,
bag bring them, in identify. Them let's get you on
the right path to. Success when we come, back if calls,
Allow i'm going to talk a little bit about the
perfect storm that we're in on weed. Control we are
(01:55:28):
in a time when both post and pre emergent weed
control are in their spotlight right, now and we need
to be talking about.
Speaker 1 (01:55:37):
That welcome to kt R H Guarden line With Skip.
Ricord just watch him as the world.
Speaker 2 (01:56:00):
About pleasing. You not a sorry credit guy.
Speaker 3 (01:56:13):
Sun starting in.
Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
It you.
Speaker 5 (01:56:27):
Did everything is.
Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
Seeing.
Speaker 6 (01:56:33):
Sunday, hey welcome. Back all, right, gardeners let's stalk. Gardening
what kind of questions do you? Have how CAN i?
Help seven one three two one two five eight seven
four seven one three two one two fifty eight seventy.
Four let's jump out here To New, Waverley texas and
(01:56:56):
talk To tony this. Morning, Hey, tony welcome.
Speaker 10 (01:56:58):
To garlanding there.
Speaker 8 (01:57:01):
Doing?
Speaker 6 (01:57:02):
Good how CAN i help get? Probably let's see would
it have come From?
Speaker 9 (01:57:12):
Robert?
Speaker 6 (01:57:13):
Yes, okay all, right YES i did, So, okay tell
me what we're looking at?
Speaker 10 (01:57:21):
Here so by alfalfa for my, horses and that stuff
was mixed in with the, alfalfa And i'm just curious
if you can tell me.
Speaker 6 (01:57:32):
What that is, well it's brown and sticky and there's
not a leaf on, it So i'm not real sure
based on you, know do you know anything else about
it other than WHAT i see here in the?
Speaker 10 (01:57:52):
Picture, NO i, don't other than it's it's, uh if
you touch, IT i mean it'll it's looks like, thorns
kind of burners or.
Speaker 8 (01:58:03):
Whatever it's.
Speaker 6 (01:58:04):
Hard, yeah, Yeah i'm sitting here studying. It it looks
like it might have square, stems and if it, does
then it's in the mint. Family so things in the mint,
family which include salvia flower bed, plants have square. STEMS
(01:58:27):
i can't for, sure but it looks like the stems are.
Square if it's not, square it's not. Fat but anyway
that would that would at least get you a step
closer to, it, Right, yeah BUT i. DON'T i don't recognize.
It it doesn't look like a plant that we would
we would grow for. Sure. Uh but when you're when
(01:58:49):
you're looking at alfalfa, fields those are not right. Here
they typically are far from, Here and SO i don't
know all the weeds that grow in an aggag feel like.
Alfalfa but that's that's close AS i can get based on.
It but it sounds like something you don't want it
in your, alfalfa that's for. Sure i'm sure that your
animals would not enjoy putting that in.
Speaker 10 (01:59:07):
There they. Don't and you, KNOW i tried to talk
to the guy and he's just, like, Yeah i've had
that in there, before but he doesn't you, know he
doesn't know what it is. Either BUT i got another. Question,
uh have you ever grown?
Speaker 3 (01:59:23):
Weeds did you?
Speaker 6 (01:59:27):
Say or? Kiwi?
Speaker 8 (01:59:30):
Kwi?
Speaker 3 (01:59:31):
UH I i.
Speaker 6 (01:59:33):
HAVE i have not grown it, myself But i've been
around it being grown. Commercially so what what kind of
kiwi are we talking about? Here do you?
Speaker 10 (01:59:42):
Know I'm i'm kind of, open you, KNOW.
Speaker 6 (01:59:49):
I.
Speaker 10 (01:59:49):
DON'T i don't know if it.
Speaker 6 (01:59:50):
Was you are you wanting?
Speaker 8 (01:59:51):
To?
Speaker 6 (01:59:54):
OH i? See? Okay, well, uh there's several. Kiwis there's
a hearty kwih kiwis are in the Genus. Acninidia the
hardikiwi makes small fruit, smoke not like the kiwi in the.
Store it's probably less than half that size and it's.
Slick then there's the kiwi that you think of as
(02:00:17):
A New zealand type Or california kiwi that's brown and
fuzzy with green on the, inside and those are a
challenge to grow here due to our erratic winter weather
that we. Have and then finally there's a kiwi that
is a kind of a smoother and almost yellowish inside,
(02:00:39):
fruit not all the outer brown. Fuzz the third type
there is going to give you the best chance. Here
but even at, that a good hard freeze like we
had this year is going to take it to the.
Ground and so there's a reason you don't see see
kiwi orchards In Southeast. Texas but there have been trials
done text and them did pretty extensive trial Doctor Tim
(02:01:01):
hartman and showed that there's potential for. It it's just
that erratic weather that kind of messes us up. Exactly
and it's a, cold cold.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
Thing, yeah right, Right but.
Speaker 6 (02:01:15):
If you're you, know if you're a home, gardener you're
not trying to make if you're not trying to make
a living off, kiwi it's a fun one to. Try
you just kind of need to know what you're getting
into so you can protect it.
Speaker 10 (02:01:25):
Accordingly, yeah that's One i'm wondering about putting it in a.
Speaker 6 (02:01:29):
Pot, WELL i don't think a pot would be enough,
soil even a big. POT i just you could try.
It but these things a commercial, kiwi they train it
up and create like a roof overhead with a, trellis
an arbor type structure so that it can spread out
(02:01:51):
and the kiwis hang down underneath the. Arbor and you're
talking about something THAT i, mean you, know you've got
a couple hundred square feet underneath that hebor of, It
so that would be one heck of a. Pot the
alternative would be to put it on the, ground put
an arbor above for it to shade the, arbor so
at least you get shade out of.
Speaker 8 (02:02:10):
It.
Speaker 6 (02:02:11):
Uh and then in the winter, time do all you
can to protect as much of that trunk as you,
can and even if it does get killed, back you'll
get regrowth and at least finds.
Speaker 8 (02:02:21):
Back, okay that sounds.
Speaker 10 (02:02:25):
Good so do you have any if you we'll have
our glass.
Speaker 8 (02:02:31):
Freeze.
Speaker 6 (02:02:35):
Yeah, Uh and so let me tell you a story about.
THAT i, KNOW i, know, well you know we're not
we're not there. Yet now you're let's, see you're you're
In New, waverley so you're a way. North you probably
should have another frost in the in the. WAY i
(02:02:56):
know That intercontinental the average last freeze. Date you, know
we're probably looking at let me see you get the right. One, Yeah,
intercontinental we're looking At march, first is the ass last
average freeze date in the spring based on historic. DATA
i Knew averley it's going to. Be it's gonna be
(02:03:17):
later than, that SO i wouldn't breathe a sigh of
relief until you get about to Mid, march as far
as some measure of safety on. It but, yeah one,
year The Conro, curry The Conrod, currier just SOUTH OFU
i wrote an article for The Conro courier AND i
talked about. Planting it was a gardening article AND i
(02:03:37):
talked ABOUT i mentioned that the last average freeze date
is AND i can't it's probably second week Of march or.
SOMETHING i don't. Know, ANYWAY i said. That, well then
they printed. It they, said The keunty extension agent, says
the last average date will be this the last freeze
will be this date this. Year and it's LIKE i
spent two weeks trying to explain THAT i didn't say.
(02:03:58):
That come to find, out on that day it froze
and it was the last day of the freeze for that.
YEAR i should have kept my mouth shut AND i
would have looked like a.
Speaker 10 (02:04:05):
Club, yeah it's tricky. Saying all it takes is one
little spraggler front and it can it can damage. You, yep,
yeah BUT i Got i'm getting the itchy fingers to get.
Speaker 2 (02:04:25):
Going.
Speaker 6 (02:04:27):
Well you, know we can protect plants if it's a. Minor,
usually as we get later the frosts and, freezes we
have a very. Brief you know they're not going to
be like below freezing for twenty four. Hours you know
it's gonna be below freezing for an hour or, something
and so it's easy to easy to. Protect so you
just have to decide how much of a gambler you
want to. Be you can always get new plants for
(02:04:49):
tomatoes and. Things so all, right, man thanks a. LOT
i got to, Run, tony but good luck with good
luck with that up. There thanks for your. Call appreciate
that very. Much let's take a. Break i'll be right.
Back there's that velvet. Voice, extraordinary eat the velvet. Baritone
there you, go one that you do can?
Speaker 3 (02:05:11):
Love is all all?
Speaker 6 (02:05:13):
Right you show up At Montgomery Lifestyle Home show In
conro at The Hightt regency today between twelve and two
tell me the name of that person. Singing i'll make
sure you get a free sample Of neilson plant food
in your. HAND i got some, nice generous little samples.
Too by the, way let's see Here Buchanan's Native plants
(02:05:36):
in The heights just a delightful place to. GO i
WHEN i go Into, BUCHANANS i always have to allow
a little extra time because there is so much to
see and there's so much to learn when you're in there.
Too i'm telling, you when it comes to native, plants
nobody has a selection that Bu cannans. Does but don't
be mistaken at most Of buchanans is not native. PLANTS
(02:05:59):
i mean the every kind of plant in the, world
including wonderful house, plant. Greenhouse but nobody has the selection
of natives that they, do and the knowledge about natives
that they, do and the products to go with whatever
you're looking. For you walk into Bu canons and you,
SAY i want a native perennial that blooms in. Spring
you walk into Bu canonds and you SAY i want
a native plant that attracts. Hummingbirds you see WHAT i.
(02:06:21):
Mean they can put it in your. Hands they are
experts at. This they're On Eleventh street in The, heights
AND i just it is a, wonderful wonderful thing to
be able to go in and have expertise and quality
plants all in one. Place you need to go by
there and you need to check them. Out let's go
To houston. Area we're going to talk To. Darren. Now, Hello,
(02:06:45):
darren welcome to Garden.
Speaker 11 (02:06:46):
Line, hey how are you.
Speaker 6 (02:06:49):
Doing i'm doing, well thank? You, okay, YES i.
Speaker 11 (02:06:55):
Bet i've got aunt little tree that my brother gave
me as a birthday, gift probably fifteen years. Ago AND
i moved houses AND i brought the tree with me
and actually transplanted it and it grew and it's about
twelve feet. Tall AND i bought a piece of property
out In flatonia And i'm building a house And i've started.
(02:07:21):
GROWING i get about Seventy Mountain laurel trees in. BUCKETS
i started them in little. Quarts THEN i. Moved i've
got ABOUT i don't, know five per one gallon bucket now.
MOVED i moved into there maybe two months, ago and
they're all about six to eight inches. Tall and my
(02:07:43):
plan Is i'm going to bring them to my property
and play them in the flower, beds and you, know
kind of do what you, said playing them southwest and
get that, great great kool aid smell.
Speaker 9 (02:07:57):
There AND i want to know when CAN i?
Speaker 11 (02:08:02):
Fight at what point COULD i take him out of
that one gallon, bucket put him in the ground and
start plaining him.
Speaker 6 (02:08:11):
Fair, Well, darren the as soon as. Possible in two,
ways the more a time it spends in the, bucket
the more of an establishment period it's going to have
to kind of struggle through to get. Established so a
younger plant is better to just go ahead and get
(02:08:32):
him in the. Ground, secondly the sooner you get him
in the, ground the more time they have to begin
getting a root system outside of that little limited area
they currently have it and getting established for the first
summer of. Heat you just want to be careful not
to overwater. Them but even a tough plant Like Texas
mountain layl that will grow out of a crock of
limestone in the hill country and be just fine when
(02:08:54):
it's a little baby with its ridge watered up in the,
pot that you got to kind of tlc at all
with a little, moisture but not too much until it
gets kind of. Established so the sooner you do, that the,
better even if it meant making a trip out to you,
know to get that started and. Whatnot but just make
sure you're going to be able to go out there
about once a week before you get them in the.
(02:09:15):
Ground in other, words if you if you're not gonna
be out there for a, month don't plant one now
until you're gonna be.
Speaker 9 (02:09:22):
There so WHENEVER i do transplant, them.
Speaker 11 (02:09:28):
For the one to have a multi. Trunk So i'm
ASSUMING i did the right thing about taking one from
each pot and then putting five into one larger. Pot
WOULD i plant all those as one large.
Speaker 6 (02:09:38):
Cluster i've never seen one with that many trunks when
you think about it getting, bigger that's pretty. Crowded. Uh
and then each since there are separate, plants they're competing
against each. Other SO i would probably cut it back
to three maybe if you wanted to hedge your bet
h and a little bit. More but the way normally
(02:10:00):
people just plant single, plants it's hard to divide them
out now that they've grown together because their roots are.
Entwined And Texas mountain lawrel is not real crazy about
being messed with and transplanted and stuff and the fact
that you moved at once says a. Lot congratulations on.
Speaker 11 (02:10:15):
That, yeah, okay all, right maybe three. MATCH i just
how they become a multi trunkt by playing a single.
Speaker 6 (02:10:23):
Seed, well they, branch that's one, thing but you, could you,
could you can have more than one plant like. That
that can happen because you, know they form in pods
that don't expel the, seed and so it's not unusual
for a group of seeds to be dropped right altogether
in the same. Spot BUT i would JUST i think
(02:10:45):
five is a little. Excessive but this isn't a black
and white line, though so let the plant prove me.
Wrong that won't bother them at all on. That But,
darren thanks for the thanks for the. Calling good. Luck
that's a great, plant and enjoy your new place out.
There that's kind of. Cool THE Ace hardware stores near,

that had to be recorded at two different points in,
time but that was pretty cool. Too all, right all,
(02:13:38):
right you're listening to garden line along with. That seven
one three two one two five eight seven four seven
one three two one two fifty eight seventy. Four. Uh
nelson Plant food has so many. Products they've got the
Turf star, line which are things bent by the bag

Bruce the one to purchase is it's gonna be your
(02:14:00):
early spring green. Up if you're gonna do an early
spring green, Up Bruce's brew is the. Product you can
Use Bruce's brew all. Year it's not a slow, release
but you can do it in small amounts all through
the gardening season on your lawn or you can use
it on other things. Too but Color star is the
one in the JAR i want to talk. About Color
star is their most popular blend over forty years. Now
(02:14:22):
landscape professionals love. It companies from out of state get
it shipped to them because they found, it they tried,
it it, works don't fix what's not. Broken they keep
using Color star and the customers that they serve are
very happy with. It it's an all purpose flowering plant
food for annuals and perennials and shrubs and trees and
(02:14:43):
other flowering. Plants it works, fast but it also has
some organic nutrient. Sources this slowly release into the, soil
so about every three or four months you just top
it off again With colorstar and just keep that place
looking really really. Good And i'm gonna have some Color
star samples that give away to today at The Montgomery
Lifestyle Home show at The Conroe Hyatt Conra hyatt on

Three go to the Website Afftree service dot com find out.
(02:20:29):
More get those trees looked, At get them continued to
be pruned and trained and directed in a strong. Way
because we're In, houston we have storms that come, through
and when they, do you need your tree to be
in its best condition, possible and that is built over
time by proper pruning by someone who knows what they're.
Doing Martin Spoon Moore Portable tree seven one three six
(02:20:52):
nine nine two six sixty. Three do that. Right, oh
EARLIER i was talking about. THAT i wanted to discuss
this purpose storm of weed control that we're. In we
are in a spot where like right, now right where
we set, today even the week, before week. After, yeah
right now where we are is a perfect storm for
(02:21:13):
post emergent and pre emergent weed. Control here's the. Deal
in your, yard you may see. Weeds those are cool season.
Weeds warm season weeds are not making big plants. Yet
cool season weeds they are going to. Bloom they are
blooming and they're gonna set, seed and once they do,
that they have sentenced you to hundreds and hundreds more,
(02:21:39):
weeds if not, thousands then you had this. Year so
if you're going to spray them with a post emergent
weed control, product you gotta do it before they've become,
reproductive because after they've set, seed the spray you put on,
them it'm gonna kill the. Seeds and as far as
killing the, plant it doesn't work as well when the
(02:21:59):
plant is shutting down getting. Ready you know the blue
bonnets on the, roadside they don't live all. Year they're
about to, bloom set. Seed toss that seed out, there
and the plant dies and it waits until next fall
when it re sprouts and does it all. Again that's
what the weeds in your lawn are doing right. Now
if you're gonna, spramp you gotta do it. Now if
(02:22:19):
you only have a, few just hand pull. Them that's
WHAT i. DO i pulled a few of the other,
days walking from one part of the yard to. Another
i'll look, down saw a little, Weed, well pull it.
Speaker 2 (02:22:27):
Up it's.
Speaker 6 (02:22:28):
Okay just get it out of. There get the seed
out of. There if you got a lot of, weeds
everywhere and it becomes too late to. Spray. Period then
get you your lawn, mower drop it down a little
lower than, normal and as those weeds are coming up
and doing what they, do mow, low capture it in a,
bagger put it in a, bag and get it off the.
(02:22:48):
Property there's one time Where i'll tell you for sure
you need a. Bag there's a couple of, times but
it rains too. Much sometimes you have to. Back but in,
general get those out of. There capture what weed seeds you.
Can pre emergent they're. Sprouting they have been in southern
parts of this listening. Area you've done Run galveston. Direction
you got weeds are sprouting In, january even starting to down.
(02:23:10):
There you got to get a pre emergent down before they're.
Sprout that's why it's called a pre. Emergent before they.
Emerge once they have little plants up and, going it's
too late for the pre, emergent and so you do
it ahead of time in order to prevent. Them and
now is the. Time it's the perfect. Storm we're sitting
(02:23:32):
here this. Weekend what are you going to do this? Weekend,
well if you're going to put a pre emergent. Out
go ahead and get it. Out maybe get a little
rain on it and water it. In if you're not
going to get too much, otherwise just turn the sprinklers,
on put about a third of an inch of water on.
It get it in the. Ground but this is that perfect. Storm,
okay HAVE i beat this horse to? Death it's so.
Important you, know people are going to be calling me
(02:23:53):
in later In march and In april SAYING i got
weeds everywhere, there knee. Deep, well at that, stage ALL
i can tell you is get at your lawnmower in
a bagging. Attachment but right now there's more that you can,
do more options if you so. Choose some people don't
want to, spray that's, fine hand pull, them or mow
the tops off and get the. Seeds some people don't mind. Spraying,
(02:24:15):
well now's the time to get it. Done if you,
wait it's too. Late all, right there you. Go heirloom
soils made out there are produced out there in The,
Porter texas. Area you can go out there and get
it by the, bulk or you can have them deliver
it to. You they can dump it on the. Driveway
(02:24:35):
they can bring you a, nice, neat Clean qbicyard. Supersack
you got to get three supersacks per delivery is a.
Minimum but you're gonna need all that. Material whatever you're looking.
For Airlom sauce has quality. Examples they're leaf more compost compost.
Superquality they're veggie and herb mixed. Superquality no matter what
(02:24:55):
you're going, after they've got you covered At Airloom. Sauce
they bag, it they sell it by the bag all
over town available and all kinds of garden centers all
over this. Region if you hear my, voice there's probably
a garden center you near you Carrying heirloom. Soils heirloomsoils dot.
Com go to that. Website see all the products they.
Have DO i have time to tell you about them?

products and they all have been very good for me
and my. Experience heirloomsoils Dot com just take a. Break

dozens of roses over and over and over, again year after.

Thing their staff is there to answer. Questions they have

(02:26:55):

you're gonna put ten plants. CENTER i, mean it's up to,
you but they will guide you and help you create
a beautiful succulent. Container which, hey why not take someone
on your love list in two Enchented gardens maybe mom or,
grandma maybe your. Spouse just head in, there get this
(02:27:17):
little together time where you build something. Together they learn
to how to put a succulent container. Together and that's a.
Gift what a neat. Idea and it's really. Easy it's
just kind of like a cafeteria. Line you, know you
grab you your soils and mixes and your containers and
the succulents and. Everything they got them all lined. Up
makes it so. Easy and you know you want something
(02:27:38):
it's hard to, kill that's a succulent, container and they
got you covered At Enchanted. Gardens here's the Website ententedgardensrerichmond dot.
Com here's the LOCATION fm three fifty nine on The
Katie folscher side Of. Richmond go check them. Out they

list and they'll tell you what's coming? Up what's going?
Speaker 8 (02:28:08):
On?
Speaker 6 (02:28:09):
Uh AND i don't. Know you're gonna want to go
back time and time. Again you were listening To gardenline
And i'm your, Host Skip, richter And i'm here for
another about nine minutes or. So, uh if you want
to give me a call seven to one three two
one two five eight seven four seven one three two
(02:28:30):
one two fifty eight seventy. Four SO i was talking
about this is a perfect time for weed control in the,
spring the perfect. Storm you wait any longer and it's
going to be a little too late to get effective
weed control on those existing cool season. Weeds that's what
you see in your lawn right. Now if you wait any,
longer and it's going to be a little too late
to put on a pre emergent to prevent the seeds
(02:28:52):
from sprouting and making. Plants once you got weed, plants
pre emergent don't kill the. Weeds that's not what they're.
For that's a post. Emergent so now is the. Time
grab you some. Barricade if you're going to do a
per emergent, treatment put it. Down follow the label on
everything you put. Down to kill, something you gotta follow
the label whether it's an insect or a disease or
(02:29:14):
a weed or, whatever watch that. Label it is the
law and it is also common. Sense i'll tell you.
This if you think that if a teaspoons, good a tablespoon's,
Better you're going to hurt your. Plants you're going to
hurt your. Lawn you are going to affect the, performance the,
(02:29:37):
growth the health of the. Plant very. Important take care
of those plants by not hurting. Them do no. Harm
that is it kind of like The hippocratic. Oath do no.
Harm so when you get out there in the, garden
there's a lot of good. Products just remember that they
all come with a proper. Use for, example let me
(02:30:00):
let me use this as an. Example, now if you
have a, headache you can take an aspen or ibuprofun
or tail and all or. Whatever it's a great med
to help with the. Headache what if you took a
bottle of? Them how would that work out for?
Speaker 2 (02:30:12):
You?
Speaker 6 (02:30:13):
Yeah not a good, idea, right same is true with
the products we use in our. Plants maybe good. Products
they may be safe at the right rate that they're,
applied they should be, safe but not when you overdo.
It so there we, go let's head out to. Spring
we're going to talk TO jr this. Morning HEY, Jr
welcome to Guarden.
Speaker 9 (02:30:31):
Line well thanks for taking the.
Speaker 20 (02:30:35):
CALL i needed to know whether it was safe to
use a sucker stopper on a foou for simon THAT
i think was grafted on to a native for semon root.
Speaker 14 (02:30:50):
Because it was.
Speaker 8 (02:30:54):
SO i.
Speaker 6 (02:30:57):
So you're not wanting to or you want need to
get rid of the permon seeds that are coming, up
or you wanted to get rid of suckers on your
foo you per.
Speaker 20 (02:31:07):
Smon it's suckers that are coming up in the yard
for the off the. Roots oh, yeah they're coming up
as much as twenty feet from the.
Speaker 6 (02:31:23):
Tree those sound like seedlings coming up from seeds from.
It you think they're connected to the mother?
Speaker 10 (02:31:33):
PLANT i think they.
Speaker 20 (02:31:35):
Are, Okay WELL i haven't dug down to find out for.
Sure so if you think they are, connected we'll try
digging one.
Speaker 6 (02:31:46):
Out, YEAH i. WOULD i would carefully try. THAT i
that's far away for a root sucker on a per
semon in my. Opinion, Okay, now if you knew it
wasn't a, sucker then you would just wipe a product
containing tricl peer onto that, route onto that, shoot and
(02:32:09):
you would get rid of it and kill the whole,
thing just real. Carefully my weed wiper is on my.
Website how to build. One the product list of herbicides
for various kinds of plants is on my. Website you're
looking for something with tricle peer in, it but that
would get rid of. It now if it were, attached
then you would be, essentially in a small way affecting
(02:32:29):
the mother plant when you do.
Speaker 9 (02:32:31):
That definitely you don't want to do.
Speaker 6 (02:32:33):
That i've had persimmons before, it BUT i just haven't
had that kind of way out from the plant suckers coming,
Up So i'm not SURE i believe it's a, sucker
but that's the decision you have to. Make and if
it were a, sucker you would just go down and
cut it off below. GROUND i don't know that the
(02:32:55):
sucker stopper is the best approach to, that but if
you can use the sucker, stopper or you could cut
it off and then dab some on the, end that
would help a little bit for a. While it doesn't work,
forever but it works for a.
Speaker 20 (02:33:06):
While, Okay well a, hi, Jam i'm going to actually. Hope,
Yeah i'm gonna hope that they actually are, seedlings and
then i'll have something that i'd be grabbed on.
Speaker 8 (02:33:14):
Too there you.
Speaker 6 (02:33:17):
Go, well at least either, way even if they're, suckers
you can dig them, up you get some roots with,
them pot them, up and you've got your new. Plant
so either, way there you. Go, okay it sounds like
you got a new HOBBY. Jr, oh thank you you.
Too All, right, Folks i'm going to be at The
Montgomery County Lifestyle Home show At Conroe hyatt And South.
(02:33:41):
Conroe come on out and see. Me i'll be there
from twelve to two. Today hope to see you.
Speaker 2 (02:33:45):
There
