Speaker 2 (01:45):
Hey, good morning, Yeah, I love it going on this
morning the news. Oh boy, here we go, well, here
we go on guard line. We're gonna talk about all
kinds of things today regarding gardening and your success in gardening.
Spring is here, it has sprung, and gardeners are excited.
(02:07):
In fact, if you've got one drop of gardening blood,
and you gotta be a little bit excited when you
start to see blooms popping out along the roadways. I
saw some wild plumb out there popping out and some
red buds coming out. We got some harbingers of spring
showing up telling us it's time to go gardeners, that's
been time to go for a while. We've been preparing
(02:28):
our soil and getting ready for things, and here we go.
I've been looking forward to this for a long long time.
One of my favorite seasons of the year is spring.
Not my only favorite, I think falls a great one too,
But when we start to get the release to go
for it on all kinds of gardening activities, that's what
(02:52):
I love. Now. Lawn care, it is time to take
care of your lawns. We got a lot going on
right now. If you look at my schedule, you will
see that if you're going to do an early release,
an early release on your nutrients, then you're going to
go ahead and do that now. It is time to
go ahead and get that. Get that done right now.
And that would be something like night Foss Imperial Imperial
(03:16):
fifteen five ten. That is a product from night Foss.
It is the red orange bag and it's designed to
provide a quick boost to green up your lawn now.
As long as soil temperatures remain a little on the
cool side, the law is not going to take off growing.
It's a green up primarily now. As things warm up,
those nutrients are still going to be around and you're
(03:37):
going to get some early continuing green up over the
next probably six weeks or so, maybe two months. We'll
start talking about the next thing in line as far
as summer long term fertilizers. But for now, if you
want to do a greenup, it's an optional application, but
a lot of people love to see that green lawn
early on night Foss Imperial, you're going to get it
(03:58):
at places like Bearing's Hardware on Bisinet. This brings hardware
on Westheimer as well, and they both carry nitrofoss Imperial products.
The fifteen five to ten specifically, you're listening to garden
Line and do you have a gardening question something we
can help you with today? Well, let me give you
a number. It is seven one three two one two
(04:22):
five eight seven four seven one three two one two
fifty eight seventy four. Let me know what your question is.
We'll get to the bottom of it, help you have
good success. It's always better to ask first and uh
and to get kind of a good idea on what
the best horticultural practices are before just heading out and
(04:42):
doing it. And you see a lot of advice in
a lot of places.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Some of it is well meaning but not well informed.
And we try here to direct you to research based information,
information that has been proven and tried, not just reading.
Not everything in the world has been research, certainly when
it comes to gardening. But we can go ahead and
provide you with experience advice, not only my own experience,
(05:10):
but people that I know that understand how to evaluate things. Uh.
There is something that you see a lot in ads online,
you see a lot in social media posts and in
a lot of places, and it is a failure to
understand the difference between correlation and causation. All Right, I'm
(05:31):
getting this too early to get nerdy, but I'm going
to do it anyway. Correlation means two things happened at
the same time and they are just coincidentally connected. Causation
means one caused the other. Okay, so when the sun
comes up in the morning and the rooster crows, that
(05:53):
is causation. That sun coming up makes the rooster want
to crow. Actually the roosters. I've had got a little
early on the gun there, but you get the idea
I'm talking about. However, just because two things happen at
the same time doesn't mean they're related. This is also
too early for this, but I'm gonna do it anyway.
(06:15):
A friend of mine was telling me one time about
a family member who would sit on their front ports
and clip the toenails and he would throw those toenails
out off the porch and there was this hydranga bush there,
and that hydrangea bush bloomed beautifully. And he said part
of the reason was because he's putting those toenails on there.
Now was that correlation or causation? That's correlation. They both
(06:41):
happened at the same time. But toenails do not make
a hydranga bloom, you see what I'm saying. So we
got to be able to figure out and separate whether
things were doing or helping or not. Otherwise we get
some weird, weird ideas and they lead us in the
wrong way, waste our money, waste our labor, and we
don't want to do that kind of thing. I think
(07:02):
you know what I'm talking about. Hey, if you doan't
to have a beautiful, beautiful London landscape. BnB turf pros
is who you need to call. B and B Turf
pros Is. They've been around a good while. It's a
family owned operation. By the way, and the thing I
love about BMB, these folks are all about doing quality
work and having that connection, that relationship with you, making
(07:25):
sure you're happy with the service. That is the heart
of what they do and that's why they're so successful
and so highly rated. Now. They cover the area basically
down from all around Sugarland, Missouri City, all the way
south and mainly east across to Interstate forty five. That
would be League City, Dickinson over in that direction, and
then everything in between Paarland Friends with Manville, Alvin, Siena, Arcola,
(07:50):
you know that whole region. They do fertilizations, they do
a new turf sidding and establishment. They can do corporation
and they can do top dressing, all of that. Give
them a call. Seven one three two three four fifty
five ninety eight seven one three, two, three four five
five nine eight. Here is their website BB no end
(08:13):
in the website Bbturfpros dot com, bbturf Pros dot com.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Check them out on Facebook too. Their posts showed the
jobs are working on you go, oh wow, they can do.
I like what they did there. I need that at
my house. I'm telling you every time I look at it.
It's like I'm reimpressed again with the work they do
at bb BnB turf pers. If you're doing a series
(08:42):
of containers, you know for maybe along the front, walk
around a patio, out in a sitting area, uh, anywhere
you want to use containers and containers are wonderful ways
to bring plants to areas where you just can't dig
up the soil, or you want the beauty of a
container with a nice soil inside. Well. Jungle Land is
an example of the nice soil inside that I'm talking about.
(09:06):
Soil needs to drain well, but it needs to also
hold moisture, not be soggy wet. It drains well, but
not dry out. It drains too well, it doesn't hold
any moisture. Jungle Land hits the sweet spot. Whether it's
jungle and flour and vegetable for outdoors or jungle land
water saving potting soil for indoors. Either way you go,
(09:27):
jungle land products or example of what I'm talking about
when I say a quality soil mix that is going
to give you success in your containers, and you're going
to find jungle land. It places like hiding and feed
stupenter airline that you're going to find jungle land from
distributed by night Fast places like Enchanted Forest, which is
(09:48):
FM twenty seven fifty nine down in the Richmond Rosenberg area.
The main thing is just get it and get those
containers going. Let's take a little break here. We will
be right back, all right. Little Neil Sadaka, the late
Neil Sadaka, just passed away. Some people go, who's Neil Sedaka?
(10:10):
And then they hear that song that Oh that guy. Yeah,
I've heard that song before. I enjoy a lot of
his music. Sure, I hate to lose him. Welcome back
to the garden Line. Good to have you with us. Hey,
do you have a gardening question this morning? Well, let's
talk about it. Seven one three two one two five
eight seven four seven one three two one two fifty
(10:31):
eight seventy four. We'll talk about the topics that are
of interest to you, and I will take a good,
good stab at that. Having answered questions for gardeners for
over thirty five years, close to forty years actually, and
I kind of know the kind of questions we're going
to get each season of the year. So right now,
it's all about the lawns, all about the lawns about
(10:52):
the lawns, So look a Megan trailer song, The Trainer song.
Sweet Green is an organic type fertilizer by Nitrofoss that
is eleven percent nitrogen, really high for an organic type product.
This is a product it's called Sweet Green. I think
for two reasons. Number one, it's based on a molasses
(11:13):
type original base with the microbial activity in there. And secondly,
it smells sweet and when you put it on your lawn,
it melts away into the lawn. That nitrogen becomes available
really quickly and you are ready to go. Microbes in
the soil love sugar compounds those carbon chains they need
(11:33):
and want carbon and Sweet Green provides that too as
well for them. You can get Sweet Green and other
products from nightro Foss at various places. I'll tell you
who carries night Foss products and Chanty Gardens out there
in Richmond. Rosenberg Quart hair Court Hardware is in Stafford
on South Main carries night Foss products as well. We'll
(11:55):
head out to the phones now we're going to go
to sugar Land and talk to Michael this morning. Hey Michael,
welcome to garden Line.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
Good morning. Hope you're having a great morning. I have
a couple of questions for you. Last year, I got
very industrious and I started a garden in my backyard
roughly three by ten foot. I had some success, A
couple of things came up really good. I kind of
neglected it over the winner I covered, but I was
(12:23):
surprised to find out I've got weeds. What can I
do to treat those guys that'll be safe to be
able to continue to use it at the garden.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
You know, there's there are a lot of different options
for you out there. If the weeds are existing, you
have to spray a post emergent if you're going to
use a spray, and the products there are a number
of different products. If you go to my website gardening
th skip dot com, there's a list of all the
different kinds of weed, groups of weed type things, and
(12:56):
the ingredients you're looking for in a product, and some
product exams bulls that that can do that. UH. Now,
is there are there vegetables currently in the garden or
are you about to plant now?
Speaker 6 (13:09):
I'm in the process of getting ready to plant.
Speaker 7 (13:12):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
But these regions, it mostly looks like some sort of
a grass, not not like a UH or anything like that.
But yeah, it's just a grass that's all over the
whole garden.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Okay. Uh does it have little white seedheads?
Speaker 8 (13:30):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (13:30):
You know, just a few inches above the ground, the
grass and the seed heads.
Speaker 6 (13:35):
No, it's a it's a grass that topped up. I
think I caused you bats you and ask you about it.
It topped up all of a sudden. I'm in Fort
Been County. It's it's like a tube bladed grass. But
the roots are very strong.
Speaker 9 (13:47):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
It popped up last spring and it tends to spread
very quickly. And Okay, the only thing really that I
can do just pull it out by hand.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, all right, Hey, Michael, here's what I want to do.
I want you to take some pictures of it, and
I'm going to put you on hold, and my producer
will give you my email address. And if you take
some pictures of that grass and send them to me.
I want to make sure what we're talking about, because
I could be recommending you know, the wrong the wrong product.
Speaker 10 (14:20):
Okay, I understand, yes, okay, and I don't do that.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Yeah, So you just hang on and we'll get to
the bottom of it and make sure you get the
right answer. All right. Thank you, Thank you very much.
Oh I'm gonna put you on hold. Just hang on,
don't go away. Yeah. There. You know, there's a lot
of products that for example, they may look like grass,
or there are a lot of weeds they may look
(14:46):
like grass, but they're not grass. H And so what
you what you need to do is get the weed
identified effectively first and that way you know exactly what
to use. There grass and grass like plants. There are
some things called sedges, sedges or or or a weed
(15:06):
that is grass like a butt, not grass. And then
there's some others that are broad leaf type plants that
have a flat leaf that look somewhat like grass as well.
So a few things to think about there. Affordable Tree
Service Martin spoon Moore, that is our go to guy

been doing this for decades. He knows what he's doing.

to one three six three two five two. Nine zero
go check your hay Out. On facebook that is another
great way to find out what's. Going on shows Up as.
Texas groundkeepers They're. On facebook he does some landscape work,
(17:37):
as well, but boy he has, some beautiful beautiful plants
ready ready. TO go i love going to. Garden centers
that is like. For me some people like going to,
the mall, you know and walking through the mall looking
at all kinds. Of stuff, for me that's a. Garden
center you put me in a garden CENTER and i
can just Tell you i'm gonna, have Fun and i'm
(17:58):
also going to have too many PLANTS that i bring.
Home too you can't have too. Many plants so, many
plants so. Little time but seriously. Joking aside you go
into a garden center and you always find stuff that
you don't even you've never heard, of it you never seen.
It before what? IS this? I say you go into a,
(18:18):
garden center you go into a good, garden center, you
know one that carries a lot of, quality plants and
you're going to find things that you really want to.
Bring home, you know there's two kinds of. Us gardeners
one is the kind that plans everything out and that
has the ability maybe to design their, garden areas so,
(18:39):
you know it's a kind of a, planned out beautiful
end result that. You get and then there's the rest.
Of us the rest of us are. Plant collectors, You
know i'm not. A designer i do not. HAVE skills
i know good DESIGN when i, see IT but i
can't always. Create it, but BOY am i a. Plant
(19:01):
collector and you know what our yards. Look like they
look like a bomb went off in a garden center
and everything rooted where. It landed That's about that's. About
right but we still, have, Fun right we still have
fun getting out there. And gardening and for those of
you who are either end of the gardening type, gardener
(19:22):
spectrum you know that you got to get your soil.
RIGHT first i talk about that all. THE time i
say round stuff before. Green stuff and what that means
is if you want to, have success get the. Soil
right that's the number one key to success for plants is.
Good soil lots. Of others it's not the only thing.
That's important, sunlight's important water, Is, important nutrients, of course
(19:43):
that's part of the soil. Is important but the soil
that is where. Everything begins if you don't start right with,
the soil it cannot. Go well it would be like
if you're going to build a house and you don't
build a foundation first to put your, house on and
he just laid two by fours in the dirt and
start nailing. Them together you're going to have a house
(20:07):
and it is going to decline and. FALL apart i
mean it just there's no way that. Can succeed SAME's
true with. The soil now you go Up To nature's way,
for example they Are on interstate forty five North of
conroe or North, of houston Up. Toward conro they have
built good Soils Since john ferguson created the place many.
(20:28):
Years ago the soils that now people. Talk about, you
know you've heard leaf, moll composts you've heard of rose
soil or veggie types. Of soils he's been building those
forever and now it's passed on to His son ian
and this same. Tradition, continues, quality. Quality quality you can
(20:49):
go up there and. Get it you can call them
and have them deliver It From Nature's. Way resources the
Website Is nature'sway Resources. Dot com that's also where you'll
find a full less of all the locations where you
Can Get nature's. Way products, you know Places Like, Wabash
Feed central Rock and, mulch which by, the way they
carry bulk leaf mole Compost From Nature's way Bearings on
(21:14):
bisonette plants for all seasons on two forty nine. All
seasons Ace And Willis ace hardware In the woodlands if,
You're Northeast jnr's ace And, Porter, A tascasda ACE and
k And m Ace and Kingwood, Out West, Ace Hardware,
Memorial Drive Nelson water gardens Out. IN katie i was
just out there the other day looking at some of
their products that they do Carry From Nature's Way, southwest
(21:36):
fertilizer enchanted forest and enchanted gardens down In The richmond.
Rosenberg area SEE what. I mean you Can Get nature's
way bag products, in many. Many, places well we're coming
up against a break that seemed to come, fast today
but it. Always does time flies when you're. Having fun
(21:56):
but fruit flies. Like, BANANAS sorry, i know keep doing
this too early for a corny. Dad joke but we're
glad you're. Listening, today hey have you got, A question
give me a call seven one three two one two
five eight seven four seven one three two one two
fifty eight. Seventy four you can be. First up we've
got an open board, right now so we'll be right
(22:18):
back with your calls in just. One, moment hey welcome
back To. Guard line glad to have you with us.
This morning what we're gonna talk? About today you tell
me this is a call in show and we can
talk about whatever you want to, talk about long as,
it's plants as long as it's. Horticulture, related uh it's,
fair game. FAIR Game, i uh it was out or actually.
(22:44):
INSIDE yesterday i had a bunch of plants that needed
potting up and. Bumping up i've Got some i'm kind.
Of conservative i'm putting my cull tender. Plants out But
what i'll Do is i'll buy them early on And
then i'll bump them up into a. Bigger container i've
got some nice growing up. Lights inside that'll be another
topic to talk about on. Another day but there is,
(23:05):
a publication by, the way on, My website Gardening with skip,
dot com and it's Lighting, For plants Lighting, For plants
and it's a, complicated TOPIC but i try to make
it as SIMPLE as, i CAN and i think if
you read it you will have some, oh wow that's
eye opening moments because a lot of it is not.
(23:25):
Just intuitive, but anyway it's all. On THERE so i
grew some things out INDOORS and i was bumping some.
Things up i've still got some tomatoes that they could
go out now we're done with. The Frost but i'm
a little warm up, a little just a little bit
more because they're growing. Really well you move them into
a bigger container and they're gonna they're gonna. Do well.
(23:47):
YOU know i tell YOU what i do Every time
i'm bumping, plants UP and i did. IT yesterday i
got Me some nelson Plant. Food genesis genesis is a
six to one to, three fertilizer but it's not the
it's not just. THE nutrients, i mean there's a lot
of fertilizers you can put. In Soil that genesis has,
the microriza the bacteria and other fungi or various kinds
(24:10):
of other fungi in addition to the microiza that benefit the.
Soil microbiome and what happens is you get the nutrient
release from, it gradually but you get it just does
something in the soil that really makes. THINGS grow i
have done this. Once before FIRST time I tried genesis
a couple of, years ago maybe three now it's two,
(24:31):
YEARS ago. I, BELIEVE anyway i grew some tomatoes out
in a little six, pack size AND then i bumped
them to a four, inch pot AND then i bumped
them to a bigger POT because i. Had tomatoes, that
fact my tomatoes right now have some have blooms, on
them and they also are just about to set some.
Little FRUIT so i put them In. THE genesis i
could not believe how they took off. And grew so
(24:52):
now it's EVERY time i. Do It when i'm bumping,
plants up gonna put. In it it comes in little
jars of, various sizes and it just it's good. Stuff
ANYWAY so i was bumping them up, in that getting
them ready to grow and getting them back under the. Lights,
Again uh and it's just it's my way of getting an,
early start but at the same time doing it in
(25:17):
a Way where i'm probably not going to lose, my plants,
you know kind of a conservative gamble against. The weather so.
That's it but the bottom line is you got to keep,
them growing you got to keep them well fed as you're,
doing that and you have to keep them under a
really good bright. Plant light, and again if you want
(25:39):
to learn more about, plant lights you can go to
my website gardening with skip. Dot com i'm about to
actually on, The website i'm going to put some links
to specific LIGHTS that i. Would suggest now there's not
only two or three lights that work. Out there there's
a bunch of, good ones but they're, way way way
(25:59):
more not. Good ones they don't have the light quality, the,
wavelength right they don't have. The intensity and what you
see online as there's light is sitting there and the
plants are all growing and there's tomatoes or flowers, on
them AND then i read the specs on the LIGHT
and i go the ain't. No way there ain't no
way it's going to be a light that far from
(26:21):
the plant. Doing that, So anyway i'm gonna give you some.
LIGHT examples i don't have light sponsors on the show
or anything, like That but i'd like to at least
direct you to a good place, to Start and i'll be.
Doing that i've got it ready to go on. The
website we're just, getting ready getting the final stages so
we can pull the plug. On that, but anyway. That's
(26:42):
that it is still rose, planning season you. Know it we,
have gosh the weather is so. Good outside it's just.
KILLING me i just want more hours in the day
to be able. To PLANT But rcw nurses has got
a selection of roses that is unmatched in our area
pages and pages single space. Rose varieties now every day that,
(27:05):
goes by people are out there because rosarians know about rcw's.
Rose collection the common just regular like, you know day
to day gardeners know about rcw's rose collection and people
go out there and they pick. Them up so if
you want the best selection from, this incredible UNMATCHED selection,
rcw does you got to get out there and. Do
(27:27):
it it is also a good time to get, out
there get those, citrus plants get those in. The ground
if you got shrubs, and trees you want. To plant
every day. Before summer that you get them before in
the ground is. Another day they have to get ready
for summer and to perform better during the first. Critical
summer any woody ornamental shrub tree would he find the
(27:48):
first summer is the touch and. Go one, you know
it starts with its roots and the little cylinder of
soil you buy in the pot when you take, it
home and they've got to get roots out and established
to be able to be resilient to heat. And drought
now you can baby, them along putting a little drink
of water there at, the base just the. Right amount don't,
drown them don't let them. Get dry but that's touch,
(28:10):
and go and you'd rather give them time to do
that when the. Weather's milder the. Weather's milder now now's
the time to. Do it get OUT To. Rcw nursery
if you buy a larger, tree size they can come
out and plant it. For you they are able to,
do that and while you're, out there pick up all
the quality fertilizer products the ones you're hearing me talk
about here On GARDEN line rcw nursries. Dot com they're
(28:32):
The garden Center At tomball parkway On belt, Way Eight
tomball parkway In belt. Way eight that's where. They're located in.
Your lawns I'm just i've been telling you last call
to get that spring weed. Prevention down that's called a,
pre emergent and barricade is. A product i would suggest
that you use a barricade from nitrofoss is put down,
(28:57):
watered end have to, watered end which a little bit,
of water and it prevents weed seeds. From germinating they
are all, ready germinating and the longer, you wait the
less benefit you're going to get. From it now weed
seeds can germinate all the way, into summer so there's
always a potential for future weed seeds, coming up and.
(29:17):
They will but if you're going to prevent the most

fifty eight to. Seventy four look out, Your, window uh what's?
(30:00):
The light LET me i had to go check my
window there had the blindness CLOSED where i can't see
out it is. Dark outside that means if you see
a house down the street and the lights aren't, on
inside go bang on, the door wake, them up tell

you get. The, Idea hey. Southwest fertilizer that is the
answer to every question that begins with WHERE can I
get WHERE can i? Get tools WHERE can i get
herbicides for? Preventing weeds WHERE can i get herbicides for?
Killing weeds WHERE can i? Get FERTILIZERS now i don't.
Use chemicals i'm an. Organic gardener WHERE can i Get organic.
(30:46):
Southwest fertilizer nobody has this biggest selections of organic or
Synthetic As southwest fertilizer been around for seventy. Years, now wow.
That's incredible that's because they do things right and they
carry what you. Want it you would be hard pressed
to go in there and, they, go yeah we, carry
it but we don't have any that hardly ever Happens A.

MANY things i can say that was before my time,
music wise or at least STUFF that i. Listened to
but there. You, go uh here's a phone number seven
(31:46):
one three two one two five eight. Seven four feel
free to give us. A Call growers OUTLETTING willis i love.
Speaker 9 (31:52):
That.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Place uh first, of all they have outstanding collar. Right
now you should see you you, should say go follow
them on social media if you want to get an
idea what's in stock? Right now go to. Their website
their website has a list of plants that they keep up.
(32:14):
THE data i think It's on fridays that they update
like the vegetables and whatnot that they. Have there but
there are a lot of really outstanding varieties. They carry
you go to look at their, VEGETABLE list, i mean like,
the tomato just the. Tomato list it is. SO long
i mean it, just dozens plural of different kinds. Of
(32:37):
tomatoes but you're looking for one that's kind of hard.
To find like let's say that you really like The better,
boy tomato where are you going to? Get that OR
the behn. Forty four that's a, good one by, THE
way bhn. Forty four and they even list the resistance
to them or they're resistant to verticillium and fusarium and
nematodes and alternaria and on and on. And on that's. Really,
(33:00):
good now that's just that is just there vegetables that they,
have flowers, outstanding roses, outstanding shrubs beautiful hanging baskets they always.
Have got, right now they've just got some gorgeous petunia
baskets are ready to. Go there they're. Ferm baskets it
won't be too long and they'll be putting the ferm baskets,
(33:23):
out front and you will never seen as beautiful a.
FIRM baskets i. Carry There growers Outlet. In, willis now what's?
THE website i just, Said It growers Outlet. In willis
That's smart grows Out in willis. DOT com i like.
That Name on highway seventy five South, of willis, you
know In between Willis, and conroe but up Close. To
Willis growers Outlet in willis. Dot com go check. THEM out,
(33:47):
i uh the, other day EVERY time i go to a,
GARDEN center i have to bring home. A plant and
the other day my wife likes kalalilies and they're. Really
BEAUTIFUL and i used to look at them, and, go
yeah that. Looks GOOD but i think that's a one
shot wonder that's not going. To, survive, well BOY was.
I wrong i've learned how well they Survive here, in
(34:08):
fact we had a pot of them three springs ago
that looked great and then they just sort of dwindled
down and, shriveled AWAY and, i, thought eh. THEY died
i just moved the pot over in, the corner up against,
the house around the corner where you couldn't. See it and,
next season, NEXT year i had come out, and looked
(34:29):
and something's coming out of, the ground and here we.
Go again they, were back and they they're great, in
containers they're good in, flower beds just really. Wonderful PLANT
so i, don't know just keep your eyes open and
keep your. Mind open there's a lot of cool things
we grow that. Are underplanted and kaliilies for a little
bit of morning sun and then some afternoon protection is a.
(34:53):
Great plant THAT'S why i, like CONTAINERS because i can
put a container where it gets the light exposure that.
It wants of, any plant those things would rather have
morning sun, than afternoon blazing, hot sun and so you can.
Do that another reason to. Have containers if you're looking
around the house and you're seeing cracks in the, sheet rock, it's, like,
uh oh that's. Not good, you're right. It's not it's
(35:16):
a house moving and. HOUSES move i was Talking With,
ty strickland who has fixed my slab. Foundation repair he's
been doing this almost twenty five, years now, and, he uh,
you know he was, just, saying basically almost ever slab
is going to have a crack. In it but, the
crack it's not just that there is a crack it
is it is a big a crack that's moving and
(35:37):
widening and things. Like that and what do? You, Do
well ty knows how to. Evaluate it he'll take a look.
At it he'll tell you what. You got if it doesn't,
need veccine he'll tell, you that let's just let's just
keep an eye on this one for. A while but if,
it does he knows exactly how to do it the.
Right way and you see the same thing on, the outside,
you know you see a crack in. The brick WHAT
(35:59):
am i going? To do what you're gonna do is
call tie two eight one two five forty ninety nine
two eight one two five five forty nine. Forty nine
tell him you're a guarden. Line listener free estimates one your. Guardenline,
listener uh, and uh make sure it's done. Right now
if your driveway is cracked. In heaving, you know it's
started looking more Like The rocky mountains than a flat.
(36:23):
Concrete DRIVEWAY t i can go. In there they can
inject underneath the driveway a substance that levels it and
just like puts it. Back together, you know if, you
will he knows how to. Do that sidewalks and cracks.
And things they can. Fix things that's the. Bottom, line
now he's A, native houstonian, in fact fifth generation Here.
(36:43):
In texas he does things the old. Fashioned way what does.
That mean it means that you show up. On time
it means that you fix it right and that you
charge people to. Fair price that's fix, my slab fix
myslab dot com two eight one two five. Five nine
what are you planning on growing this year that you haven't?
(37:06):
Grown before what's what is? A plant maybe it's, a
vegetable a new kind. Of tomato maybe it is a
type of vegetable you've never. Tried before maybe it's. An
herb maybe it is you've never had roses and you
always wanted to. Have roses first, of all that's a
great idea. Good choice not too many yards don't have
(37:28):
roses and have a nice spot that they would do so.
Well in one of my favorite things about roses is
the fact that instead of it just being like a
rose garden with the long stem, hybrid teas which, are
fine you can, do that they're just not the most beautiful.
Landscape plant we now have shrub roses and you don't
(37:49):
have to have all the knowledge of how to. Proven
rose you basically share. The things, cut them just cheer,
them back cut them back and they. Look good they
make a shrub and you get rose plows on top.
Speaker 11 (38:00):
Of.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
It all that is a, Win win i'm, telling you
definitely a, Win win so you need to you need
to take advantage. Of THAT when i LAST time i was,
OUT shopping i was looking at some of the new
disease resistant, rose lines and boy did they ever have
(38:21):
some really nice things, out now JUST some i, don't
know just new, new varieties, new looks and excellent. Disease
resistance that is important now when you're when you're picking,
a rose you do want to make sure it's disease
resistant unless you're willing to get out there and. Spray
(38:42):
it and some roses IT'S like i got to have
that rose that look and stuff disease resistance Or not
i'll spread, all right you can, do that but if
you want easy go with disease resistance if you're out
in The The richmond, rosenberg Area And chanted forest is
a good place. FOR that i was looking at. Their,
selections well roses are just like one part of what.
(39:04):
They offer but boy do they are gorgeous roses. Out
there they have lnana that is just OUTSTANDING what i
love to. Going there for, the salvia they have a
huge selection of salvia's that's my favorite genus. Of plants
and then when it comes to things, for butterflies bees,
and hummingbirds lots of those nectar rich flowers are There At.
(39:26):
Enchanted forest, in fact they carry the butterfly larval food
source plants like passion vine for the, go fritillary like
milkweed for the monarch. For example and the butterflies know
where this place is and they go there and they
lay eggs on. The plant and you may buy a
plant and it's got a caterpullar. On it that's. A
bonus take. It home think of it as your sour
(39:47):
dough starter for a. Butterfly garden there, You Go, Enchented Forest,

Speaker 5 (46:33):
THANK you i have a Question about.
Speaker 10 (46:35):
Ladybanks roads i've.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
Read that they can be grown in, a container but
that they get quite large unless you.
Speaker 8 (46:42):
Prone them would it be wise to grow in a.
Speaker 5 (46:44):
BIG container.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
I have never seen it in, a Container and, I'm
sure i'm certain it's, been done but it is the
roads that can. Get huge let me give you an
example Down, In, tucson arizona there Is A lady. Banks
rose it was hauled out there in a buckboard wagon
in the. Eighteen hundreds the thing now covers a quarter of.
An acre they've built this arbor, for it going out
(47:08):
in all directions like, a big. Giant umbrella so that
rose has potential to. Get, big wow if you put
it in, A container i'd give it as much soil as.
You could it'll never get big in, a container just
because it's. The restriction what you don't want, to, happen
though is on a summer day for you not to
(47:28):
be able to keep the soil. Moist enough, you know
it just dries out and the rose goes. Into stress
that's not a. Good thing so you're gonna have to,
water often and you need to. Give it, You know
roses want, good sunlight at least six hours of, morning
sun but more. Is better and then just if you
watered enough and you get this big a container, as
(47:50):
possible so that you give it as much soil volume to,
hold WATER then i think you might have. Some success,
thank you, all right you. Take care you know there's
a white one and a. RED one i may. EXCUSE
me a white one and a. Yellow one so the
(48:11):
white one happens to, be fragrant the yellow one happens,
to not and they both. Lack, thorns wow that's kind. Of,
cool hey if you haven't done a pre emergent herbicide
in your lawn and you want to, do, one well
barricade from nitrophoss and boy is now over The time
I've been i've been saying last call on barricade for a.
While now so there's going to be some weeds that
(48:33):
have already, started sprouting especially for those of you for,
further south but you can continue to use it and
stop the ones that still haven't. Sprouted yet barricade needs
to be watered in with about third of an inch
of water and it goes. To work, grassy weeds broad
leaf weeds never see the light of Day because bear's
kaide stops them after, they sprout before they can get
(48:54):
a root down and become. A plant that is the
simplest way to go about. Weed, control now where do you? Get?
Barricade well night fresh products in general are available at
Places like plants for all seasons on two FORTY nine
D and d feed Up in Tomball and Texas feed
stop Out In. Mont bellevue lots of places you can
(49:17):
get night fresh products. Around town it's going down at.
The galleria we're going to Talk. To Forest, hey forrest
welcome To. Garden, line well. Thank.
Speaker 14 (49:26):
You skip wanted to check in on your expertise with
regard to growing herbs and. Specifically dill LAST year i
planted dill in my open vegetable GARDEN and i also
planted some kind of in a more, shady SPOT and
i did not have success in. Either CASE and i
like to grow, this DEAL so i use it in
(49:48):
my canning and. My pickles and just wondering if you
had any thoughts on kind of the best way to
care and handle.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
For, DILL okay a good, saw mix good compost in
the soil.
Speaker 13 (50:00):
Is.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
Helpful uh you want to plant, them early get the,
seeds out let them sprout and. Get going you want
to thin them out so they got some space between,
the seeds keep them. Dependably moist and they like more
sunlight rather. THAN less i don't know how little sun
they can, perform in but when, in doubt give it
some more hours. Of, Sun uh and that those are
(50:23):
part of the seeds. To success if you will for DIL.
Speaker 14 (50:28):
So i can put them in open sun.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
All day they can grow an open sun. All, day,
yeah okay if, you bet you got to be able
to be able to you got to be able to keep,
them watered, you know to. Do that but if, you
had like if you had to choose a shady semi,
shady spot then, morning sun late, day shade but at
(50:51):
LEAST six i would make sure they get six hours
of sun so they do. Their best, ALL right i will.
Speaker 10 (50:57):
DO it i.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
Appreciate you, thank, you sir you bet, For us thank
you very much for. Your, call uh plans for all

Talk to gordon. This, Morning, hey gordon welcome To. Garden line.
Speaker 15 (53:10):
THANK you i need to know the visual difference if
you know of edible ginger and, ornamental gingers just by
looking at IT before i started doing. This, stuff.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Well edible ginger is very. Low growing typically, you know
around knee high something like that is the height. Of
it it has strappy leaves coming out, of stalk which
the butterfly gingers also, have that but they get. Much
taller they're going to, be, three four five six feet
(53:46):
depending on, growing conditions in which one you about four.
Feet high that sounds like an ornamental one. To me
but you'll know This the typically in, late summer if it's,
a headicium a, butterfly, ginger uh the blooms will start
to appear and they're very very gorgeous. And unique, wattle
(54:09):
ginger you usually don't see blooms and they're. Nothing showy if, THEY.
Speaker 15 (54:14):
Bloom i got white ginger white blossoms with. Red seeds
after they drop, the blossoms they make. Red seeds.
Speaker 2 (54:26):
You have to have a picture, Of, that, no sir.
Speaker 9 (54:32):
You, want.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
Well THE reason i ask IS if i could see,
A picture i could tell you exactly what. It is h,
for sure but.
Speaker 5 (54:43):
That's yeah it looks like a cannon old, cannon fire
but with.
Speaker 15 (54:51):
White blooms it balls up in a ball at the top.
And all it just keeps blooming until it rots and it.
Dries up, not rots but just, dries up and then
it has red seeds.
Speaker 5 (55:06):
In it if you wait, long enough.
Speaker 2 (55:10):
You got me on. That one things you're saying make, me,
think oh he's talking about. This one and then you
keep TALKING and, i, think no he's not, So well
i'd like to see a picture of it, if you
if you get one, this year email it to me
and let me take a look at it and see
for sure which one you. Have, there okay it just doesn't, sound.
Speaker 5 (55:29):
Okay it sounds, LIKE well i want to want. To
know my asparagus is. Already producing it started on the
twenty Sixth.
Speaker 15 (55:36):
Of february i've never had it it's about.
Speaker 5 (55:39):
Four and a half. Weeks early, so okay it's, really good.
Speaker 2 (55:43):
Really, wonderful yeah that. Is, good, Hey, hey gordon on those,
ginger leaves how wide and how long?
Speaker 15 (55:52):
Are they they're about three and a half four inches
wide and there they drove. PRETTY good i cut them
down to the ground and they're coming out right now
and they just shoot up the off the running?
Speaker 2 (56:09):
All right that.
Speaker 15 (56:10):
Drive part.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Do you know when you?
Speaker 15 (56:15):
Harvest IT where i CAN tell i can harvest it.
Speaker 5 (56:18):
At times or take that roots stuff out and cut
it and it's like.
Speaker 15 (56:25):
Dried fiber.
Speaker 5 (56:28):
But then again you can and it's splice is.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Pretty, good, yeah, HEY gardon I need i need. To
run but let's. Do this if you will send me
a picture of the blooms and send me a picture
of those roots, Are describing i'll be able to give
you a. BETTER answer i don't want to guess, right

Speaker 2 (57:09):
And where no, You, can't uh it's not and, and
yeah you have to do it by a, vegetative propagation

Speaker 2 (57:40):
Yeah some people will will sell. YOU squares i mean
the little, you know like the size of a door
mat at the front, door pieces and you can cut
them up and make your plugs out. Of them or
if you've got areas where it's growing that you don't
want it, to grow you could harvest it out of
there and plug. It in or some people just, take little,
(58:01):
you know four x four inch plugs out of the
yard and then move them over and everything fills back in. In,
time yeah that's, an idea.

Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
Well here let's go now Out, To wharton texas and
Talk to enn. This, morning Hello n welcome back To.
Speaker 10 (01:00:32):
Garden, line, yes sir.
Speaker 9 (01:00:34):
GOOD morning i have an old pear tree that's been
on the property for probably, seventy years maybe. Even longer
it's one of those that produces the hard pairs that
are wonderful for cooking. And, canning however this year it has,
a terrible terrible case.
Speaker 17 (01:00:54):
Of moss on.
Speaker 9 (01:00:55):
The, limbs, so okay WHAT do i need. TO do
i need to spray with.
Speaker 10 (01:01:01):
Remedy, THAT yeah i think.
Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
You're seeing lichens on. The limbs. They're friendly lichen comes in.
Different types some is like flat with. Frilled edges some
looks like little miniature trees or. Miniature shrubs they're all
just mossy looking and you can spray, for lichens but
they're not hurting. The branch they're a sign that the
(01:01:25):
tree is not real vigorous, right now and the sign
that the light is therefore getting through shining in on,
the limbs and you get a lot of those. LICHENS
growing i ignore them and just look at it as
a challenge to get that tree kind of invigorated a
little bit more and not worry. About it but that
would be my suggestion.
Speaker 9 (01:01:45):
To you so is THERE anything i can do for
it or without messing with those things see or something, or, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Well printing out any dead wood in it careful because
when you prune, a pair it. Vigorously regrows but a
little bit, of pruning a little bit, of fertilizing but
not much because they're already. Pretty vigorous but a little
trimming it up, like that making sure it has adequate
moisture when we go into drought in the heat, of
summer and getting the weeds away from the base and
(01:02:18):
mulching around it and things. Like that they all help
promote vigor in. The tree but just know that, those
lichens you'll see them on a dead, fence post just
they don't need a living tree to take energy. Out
of they're just growing because there's organic matter that they can.
Speaker 9 (01:02:33):
ATTACH to i thought it might need, in hibbiting inhibiting
it from producing, and STUFF so i was concerned.
Speaker 18 (01:02:41):
About, it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
Yeah sometimes people think of them, that way but it's
because it's more they're not producing because of the lack
of vigor in the tree or some other thing. Going
on but the lichens are not not your. Big CONCERN
but i do appreciate your calling you bet take care
in good to talk with you. All seasons turf grass

On out it's gonna be a good day. For that twelve,
To two i'll. Be there, medina products there's so Many
(01:06:51):
good medina products on the market that, you know it's
like EVERY time i Talk about, medina's like WHAT am
i going to talk? About now because they have so many.
Good ones medina has a product called humate. Humic acid
humate liquid humus is like a concentrated, compost basically that's what.
Humist is you put this in, The soil you're gonna improve.
Soil quality that's What nature that's why nature takes drop
(01:07:14):
leaves on the surface of the, forest floor turns them,
into compost turns them into humus the final, decomposed stage
and it just makes the soil better year after year.
After year and you can kind of take a shortcut
on that by getting humate, humic acid putting it into.
Your soil it's got nutrients in it, as well. Micro
(01:07:34):
macronutrients it's got a really good ability to help that
soil form a structure that's gonna help it whole, moisture
well have better aeration and. So on that's what humus does,
in nature and that's what you can do with, the
medinas humte. Humic acid and you'll find medina of course all.
(01:07:55):
Over town lots of Places carry. Medina products we're going
to go Now to spring and talk to. This Morning,
hey anne Welcome To.
Speaker 17 (01:08:02):
Garden money, Good morning. THANK you i have two. Major,
questions first my daughter Lives. In huntsville she's lost in
a house that we've redone the front of her house
in the. Garden area planted some, nice plants but the
dirt is JUST when i, STARTED planning i realized we,
(01:08:25):
had TROUBLE but i thought i'd look at. That later
but it's so thick and gummy and it's you make
a baseball out. Of it if you said, it hard
it would probably break. Somebody's, glasses okay you know it's
it's kind of, a gray yucky LOOKING and i don't
know there's something they brought in when they built, the
(01:08:47):
houses or it's just. Bad DIRT and i have another
question about. A, tree.
Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
Okay now is this we got to. Do, that yeah
we gotta do these quick and We'll do and wanted to,
time though is the is? The dirt are we talking
about it in flower beds or where the?
Speaker 17 (01:09:07):
Whole, yard okay well the whole yard has. Terrible dirt
the grass just struggles. To suffer, so okay it needs a.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Lot air right's the here's a quick answer. On this
if you want to improve a heavy clay soil, LIKE
that i. Would start and this is not going to
be a, simple task but we're trying to take a
horrible soil and make it a. Wonderful soil you put
about three inches of expended shale. Over it that's, a
lot and mix it in as deep as you can
with a rototiller or with a. Spading, fork now with
(01:09:39):
a clay, like that if, it's dry you can't break up,
the soil and if, it's wet you just make a
mess trying to go. Through it that that, wet clay
so you got to catch it when it's moist and
it breaks apart easily and it's easy, to work and
a clay there's a little narrow window in there between
dry and wet where you can. Work it but if
(01:09:59):
you get three inches of expanded shell mixed in and
then also add a couple inches of compost into, the
soil you could use something called a, bed mix you
could use something called a, rose soil or you could
just use straight compost and mix. It in you can
create a nice flower bed where you can grow a lot.
Of stuff an alternate in would be to get a
(01:10:21):
bed mix like a rose soil mix and bring it
in bulk and just spread it out over, the ground
mix it in a, little bit but then pile it up,
even higher so they're basically you're creating a raised bed
on top of the ground full of good soil for
the plants. To, grow now what was your question about?
Speaker 17 (01:10:39):
The trees it has, a TREE and I don't i've
never seen one. Like this it's got real pretty green
leaves or not. Real large it's not like an oak.
OR something i don't know what kind of tree. It
is it was when she bought, the house and we
kind of trimmed, it up shaped it up and it's.
Looking good BUT up i guess maybe three. Feet eat
(01:11:01):
the trunk. Is open it's. Like it it just was
SICKLY and i don't know if it's going to kill
the treue, of instantly but it's, you know maybe two
inches wide. Going up so if THERE'S something i can
put on it, To, repair.
Speaker 7 (01:11:19):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
There's not but HERE'S what i want you. To do
i'm gonna put you, on hold and could you send
me some pictures of the tree but also that area
up close and email them to Me and i'll comment
ON what i would do. About, that okay it's too
much of a guesswork. Right, Now, okay well if you're
seeing a split opening that goes to, the inside that's
(01:11:41):
a decay and that tree should over time close. It
over the only negative of it is just it's a
weaker spot in the tree because it lacks the thick
wood that it should have in, that area because it's
decayed away a. Little bit but there's nothing that you
can do to. Fix, It, okay.
Speaker 17 (01:12:00):
Okay thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
So much, all right and thanks for. The call appreciate that.
Very much you. Take care. Pest bros you hear me
talk about them all. The time randall and the whole
team there At. Pest bros they know how to manage
pass in the safest, way possible so you get effective
treatment without. The worries that's the. Bottom line AND when i,
(01:12:24):
say pass it could, be indoors roaches and other. Things
indoors it could be, fire ants it could be. Mosquitoes outdoors.
You know whatever the, pasts are they know how to deal.
With them and it's. Certainly termites, you know in, our warm,
wet climate we have some horrendous. Termite issues several types,
of termites so for most, and termite the the subterranean
(01:12:46):
termites and drywood termites. And others lots of different kinds
potentially that we can be dealing. With here they know
exactly what. To do they can put down something that
for termites that protects them for. Three years, excuse me.
Ten years WHAT am? I saying? THREE years i had
it done to, my house a trench around the house
covered up. With soil you get this product down in
(01:13:07):
the trench and, the surface then your dogs can lay.
On it it's not gonna hurt them because they're not
touching any kind of a. Pesticide there just typical of The.
Pest bros knowing how to do, things right knowing how
to do things the safest possible way so that you
don't have. The worries Dpestbros dot com two, eight one
two oh six forty. Six seventy we're going to take
(01:13:28):
a break and we'll be back with D. And, montgomery
hey welcome back To. Guarden line if you're going to
do a spring green up on, your lawn now's. The
time now is, prime time probably the best time to
do a spring. Green up that's an, optional application it's on.
My schedule but what it'll do is while temperatures are
(01:13:49):
still a little on the cool side in, the soil
the grass is not going to, grow actively but it
will green up and it will begin. To grow and
the weather we've, BEEN had i tell you things. Warm
up it's gonna. Take off And Night foss imperial fifteen five.
To ten it's the red, orange bag. Real easy you
can see it from across. The Store Night fasz imperio
(01:14:11):
red orange bag fifteen five. To ten it gives the
grass what it needs in an available form. Right now
it's you put, it down you water. It in, IT'S
available i mean within two or. Three days most of
that nutrient's gonna get taken up by the grass if
the grass is at a stage where you know it's
roots or active enough to, do that and now's. The
time THAT'S why, i says this is the time if
(01:14:33):
you're going to do an early green up to get.
It Done Night foss imperial is available lots, Of Places
Stanton shopping Center On north taylor Down, in alvin or
you could Go to Plants and things Out in Brenham

Skip'sweed wiper but basically what it does is it by groups.
Of weeds it tells you the ingredients you need and
the products that. Contain those so if you went to
(01:15:33):
the one that is on like let's say, broadleaf weeds
which is what, clover is it will tell you the
kinds of products that will. Control that and basically it's
called post emergent broadleaf. Weed control and each brand has,
its examples and there's not like one that you. Get
it any of them, would Work But fertilo home, Has
(01:15:56):
one boneye Has Weed. Beater ultra if you do, it
now we'd. Beat her ultra is still fine.
Speaker 7 (01:16:03):
To.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
Use uh and you just spot spray the weeds as
you go.
Speaker 21 (01:16:07):
Through.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
There uh there are grand and broad leaf Post, emergence
uh but you got to get the weeds wet and
immediately put the, granules out so some of the granules
stick to. The WEEDS so i prefer the spray ones myself.
For effectiveness but you can use some of the granule forums.
As well but you're, out there, you know In, in

Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
That? No, it well don't Use. Don so there is
something called a spreader sticker or it may be called a.
Ser fact turbo.
Speaker 5 (01:17:39):

There okay So The lake conroe ace out there on one,

if they Don't, have turbo they'll have. Another one and
as far if they Don't HAVE bone Eighte Weedy, beater
ultra they should have another. Good one and there there's
a number of excellent ones. Out THERE like, i said
if you if you put all these things on the
website just because it's it's, a fast. Easy source and
if you're gardening with skip, dot com you go down
(01:18:30):
to the broad. Leaf Weeds and i'm just going to

to tom. This Morning, Hello tom, Good.
Speaker 15 (01:20:17):
Morning skip how are you.
Speaker 24 (01:20:19):
Doing?
Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
Good sir how can we? Help YOU if i HAVE
a i moved Back.
Speaker 13 (01:20:25):
INTO sharpstown i just Moved From missouri city and we
have heavy. CLAY soil i aerated both the front and
the backyard because it's so compacted and it's. Sprayed microlife
WHERE can i get this expanded shell in bulk form
and also a good premium. Potting soil i've created a
(01:20:48):
planning bed in my backyard around the FENCE and i
need about. Eighteen yards any suggestion would.
Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
Be great you get you can get shale from a
number of places in just buy. The bag the ground
up has shale products and heirloom. Soils products have a
bag that just has shale heirloom also has one that
(01:21:18):
has shell plus compost if you want to put the,
two together because shale and composts both help. A clay
i like, the shell but you got to use enough.
Of it, you know you can't just put an inch
of shale. Over clay the particles just disappear and they're
separated by, the clay and you need a volume of
it to really make a significant, internal drainage longer term
(01:21:39):
benefit than the compost. Itself gives but the ground up
and the airloom soils both probably selling by the bag in,
your area and then you could just go, both too
or you can go pick it up if you want
to go. That way ground up's more the, west Side
and heirloom is going to be Up to. Porter, direction
(01:22:02):
okay could you give me.
Speaker 13 (01:22:03):
A recommendation i've created some aspilia's on my. Back fence
i'm looking for either a climbing rose or climbing guardenias
that will be good, for this uh temperate zone and.
Speaker 6 (01:22:17):
For fragrances is that something you have on?
Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
Your, WEBSITE.

container if you're going to do, it outdoors get the
vegetable or, excuse me the flower vegetable. Planning soil if
you're going to do, it indoors get the jungle and
(01:27:03):
version that's called water saver. Potting soil either way, you
go you're going to be good to go when you start.
Off right it all begins in, the soil and that
includes a pot too and. A container it's all about.
Speaker 7 (01:27:15):
The.
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
Soil soil success got a, drain well but it has
also got a whole moisture and finding that sweet spot
is the key. To success speaking of a success Products,
from microlife so many good options out there from the Folks.
At microlife, you know we talk about the sixty four
number one selling organic Fertilizer, in houston it's The green

ways with liquids and with solids infected. Our granulars, in

we're talking about. The, liquids well the, four cores four
(01:28:01):
court bottles Of The, maximum blooms the three three from
the Folks. At microlife both quality products and they need
to be used more than they are because there's so
many uses. For them, you know we think of the
green bag as. Just lawns you can put it. AROUND
anything i use it around, FRUIT trees i use it
in my. Vegetable gardens it's a good it's a. Good
product and then the three eight three maximum blooms the pinkish.
(01:28:24):
Red bottle you can use it as your planting plants
to enhance that root system with some extra phosphorus to
help the roots develop better. And faster or you can
just use it on an, existing plant drenching it. Around
it all good from the Folks. At microlife Go To
microlife fertilizer. Dot com you can find out. More there
they have all the products listed. As well it's Go
(01:28:46):
to Leslie. And, Baytown, hey leslie welcome garden.
Speaker 8 (01:28:49):
Line line.
Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
Hey skip?
Speaker 7 (01:28:53):
What?
Speaker 18 (01:28:53):
Else ASKED hey, I am i've got to empty that
in my front yard and i want. Something blooming it's
in the middle of, the yard, it's raised it's got
a couple of near dead lemon trees in It that
i'm going to try to see how. They do and
THEN but i was thinking about filling it in. With
(01:29:15):
plumbago does that bloom like for? A while i want something?
Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
To, watch yeah plumbagog all summer long. For you that
that would be a. Good choice there's a white and
a sky blue version. Of plumbago both of them do. Very,
well uh so that would be. Good choice i'll give
you a lot.
Speaker 13 (01:29:34):
Of.
Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
Blue uh the, yellow bells the yellows called, esperanza also
uh they bloom all through. The summertime that would be
another good one that you. Could, choose okay there's a
lot of other. Good examples but a try alis is
a is a shrub That in baytown probably not fully
die back to, the ground but when we have a
(01:29:55):
good hard cool spell like we did, this winter it'll
it'll kill. It back but, it's yeah bloods for more
months of the year than just ABOUT anything i can,
think of all through the. Warm season.
Speaker 18 (01:30:06):
It's about soil preparation and what type OF soil i.
Speaker 10 (01:30:10):
Should, get.
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
Yeah raised bed mixes would be your. Best bet you
could use a veggie and herb mix even though it's,
a shrubbed or you could use a. Rose blend the
rose and other bloomers blend would be a good choice.
For that if you if you want it to, drain
well you know you want it to provide, you know.
(01:30:32):
Good drainage so either one, Of, those okay, all.
Speaker 11 (01:30:36):
Right drainage is there any kind of drawbacks.
Speaker 18 (01:30:39):
For plumbago is there something that could get? AT them
i should know early about any kind of tests.
Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
Or diseases THE plants i suggested to you have no
major drawbacks. At all they were freeze at the, first
frost and so you're going to have a blank bed
after you cut. Them back you can fill in with
pansies or something for winter if, you want but that'd
be the only drawback is that it is. A perennial
but they both have long, Bloom SEASON so i think
(01:31:07):
you'll be happy. With, those yeah about four feet about
four feet high generally if you give them plenty. Of
sun by four, feet high, ALL right i appreciate uh
five feet four to, five feet depending on how well
(01:31:29):
it's growing. For you you bet. Take Care h nelson
nursher and WATER gardens, i Did. AND katie i was
just there the other day Talking, to rolf and oh,
my gosh they are loaded. With plants what kind of
plant do? You want they've got them. All there and
then of course the. Water gardens of course we're, all sitting,
you know waiting with baited breath on when the when
(01:31:51):
the water garden lilies come in the tropicals and the hardy.
The lilies they have, them both and they can't come out.
Too soon it's got to warm up a little. Bit
more but when they get, Those in i'll let. You
know it's gonna be Sometime. In march, but wow those are.
So cool and they're working on some really nice water,
(01:32:12):
garden packages like where you get. A container it's a
very large plastic container that is resistant to. Solar breakdown,
you know it's a kind of, like well anyway you
put it. Out there you can sink it in. The
ground you can put it above. The ground, either way
you won't even see. The container you fill. It full
(01:32:33):
the package will have some plants, in it it'll have
some fish. In it it'll have everything you need to
get going on your own little. Water Garden and i'll
tell you about that more when they get, those out
but they're. Coming meantime go out to this destination. Garden
center enjoy the. Water sound it is. Out therapeutic take
the kids with you and say we need some. Fish
(01:32:54):
food they'll give you a little bit of fish food
where the kids can go out and feed the koi in.
The back it's a. Fun day get your neighbors to go.
With you make this a little, fun outing, YOU know
i go into the movies, or whatever except for the.
Whole Family nelson Watergardens dot Com On Katie, fort monroe
just north Of. Itin freeway let's go Now to katie
and Talk. To, Greg, hey greg welcome to. Garden man.
Speaker 11 (01:33:17):
Thank you quick question.
Speaker 9 (01:33:19):
For you good.
Speaker 11 (01:33:20):
Two, QUESTIONS actually i just Planted Some queen anne palms
a couple of, weeks ago and my question is how
OFTEN should i water them with them just being transplanted in.
The ground, and secondly fertilization for, palm trees what do
you recommend and how often.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Water? Is needed, you know depending on, the temperature you.
Water more when it's hopped and, it's cool it'll get
its roots down. Pretty quick but while it's still very confined,
root system keep that, soul moist not a. Swamp though
they don't want to sit, in soggy, wet soil and they'll.
Do well as far, as fertilizing you can fertilize them
(01:34:03):
in small doses through. The season often we look for
a fertilizer with a little magnesium. In it if your
soil is it, all lacking you'll know that when they
start to grow if the leaves don't have a, normal
green solid green color. To them but in, the meantime
remember a palm tree is a. Grass plant it's not a.
Broad leave it's a. Grass plant and so your lawn
(01:34:24):
fertilizers that you use for your lawn would be fine
for the palm trees in the. Short term and then
as you, go forward you can get a product Like
The Nelson plant Food and Night to us both have
a palm food specifically a palm food that comes, in
jars and you could use that. As well all of
those access.
Speaker 11 (01:34:45):
Thank you and then on, plume areas my wife she
probably has like way too many, of them probably like thirty.
Or forty and of course we take them out of
the ground in the fall before the weather turns cold
storm in the GARAGE and i had to take them
out of the garage to get to my lawnmower to cut.
The grass so now they're sitting outside that's on. The
(01:35:07):
grass is it is it okay to sit out there
for a few couple of weeks until we figure out
exactly where we want to. Plant these that's we've kind.
Of redone since we've redone our landscape in the back
just just keep.
Speaker 2 (01:35:24):
The containers moist give them some moisture in, the soil
make sure, it's dependable mount that they don't have a lot.
Of leaves they are not going to use a lot.
Of Water, But Greg i'm i'm way past. My break
i'm gonna have. To run, but yeah just it's fine
to leave them out. Like that and thank you sir for.
YOUR call i got, to, Run folks i'll be. Right,
back hey welcome back to The. Guard line glad to
(01:35:44):
have you with us. This morning you got, a question
here's the number seven one three two one two five
eight seven four seven one three two one two fifty eight.
Seventy four give me. A call let's. Talk gardening what are.
Your questions sweet green is a product by. Night five
it is eleven percent nitrogen and it dissolves away very
quickly and it. Smells wonderful you put sweet, green down
(01:36:07):
you water, it in and you're going to find that
things do really. Really well what's happening, is microbes especially,
the bacteria need a. Carbon, source okay they need some source,
of carbon and anything like, sweet green which is a
basically a string of carbons, like sugars are it releases
(01:36:31):
into the soil quickly and it really stimulates. Microbial activity
they do very well. With it SO what i would
recommend is you get you some you put, it down
you water, it in and you watch your long. TERN
green a, YEAR ago i starting in, my neighborhood just
used their sweet green and he came across the yard and, he,
said man that. STUFF works i mean it looks great,
(01:36:52):
back there and of course. It does sweet green from
nitro foss available at Places Like bearing's Hardware on bisonet
And on westheimer and many many. Other locations, all, right
folks how can we help you? Have success that's what
we're aiming. For here we want you to be able to.
Enjoy gardening, you know gardening should. Be enjoyable and when
(01:37:14):
people FEEL like i always hate when somebody TELLS me
i just got a. Brown thumb no. You don't you
may have an. Uninformed thumb you bring your thumb with
you to. Garden line. Let's talk we'll get that thumb
informed so that you can. Enjoy success because it's not.
Rocket science, in fact if you're a, rocket scientist rocket
science is a. Rocket science but you Know what i'm,
saying anyway really simple learning to see things from a
(01:37:37):
plant's point. Of view that's what. We do the more
you can see from a plant's point, of view the
more you know exactly what. To do how warm or
COLD do? I need how much LIGHT do? I need
what type of SOIL do? I like, you know those kinds.
Of things that's the secrets of success. With plants and
all plant problems are related to something going wrong with
(01:38:00):
not giving a plant what. It wants it's as simple,
as that and it's not that difficult. To, do hey Out, In,
Kingwood Texas Warrens southern Gardens And Kingwood, garden center these
places are ready to go. For spring they have been
for a. While now i've been telling you. About it
if you go Out To Warren southern gardens and you
(01:38:25):

you a. Little preview how. About that you go Out
To Warren, southern gardens you, look around and you're going
to see things like. Gorgeous pottery, gorgeous pottery and some
of it looks like you look at it and, you,
go well that looks like concrete or a heavy, clay
pottery and. It's not they have a type of pottery,
(01:38:47):
very lightweight it's, uvy resistant works in all kinds. Of
weather you can use it indoors. Or outdoors it just
is a really. COOL thing i would suggest you go
take a look. At it you're also going to see blueberries.
Out there you're gonna see strawberries. Out there you're gonna
be able to get. THOSE mixes i was just telling
somebody want to go veggie in Our mix it's a,
great one especially for your raised beds or a raised.
(01:39:10):

BOTH good i. WOULD use i would use either one
because they really. Do work one of Them is medina
(01:40:20):
has to grow. For lawns it's that twelve, four eight
that three one two ratio that is the best shot
for almost every lawn you're going. To have, you know
your certain soils could be all out, of whack and
maybe you'd go with a little, different thing but for
ninety percent of the lawns, out there maybe, ninety five
you're not going to go wrong with a three one
(01:40:42):
two ratio and so hot it has. To grow twelve
four eight for lawns is a. Great one it comes
in a court that you hook up to a. Garden
hose makes it so easy to just go over. The
lawn or if you've got an area that's kind of
not doing as good and maybe you want to give
it a little, extra boost you can do that with a.
Hose sprayer you can give it a little. Extra boots
that way has to grow twelve four eight. FOR launch
(01:41:04):
a second product is Has to grow six. Oh two
it's part of it's Called super. Grow plus actually six
zero two good. Nitrogen boots now this one will really
give you lown a quick. Green up you want to
quick green up on. Your lawn Has to grow six.

A quart buy. Your court when, it's empty get you
a gallon to refill. Your court it's very economical way
and it works from the Folks at medina to outstanding
products for. The lawn you are Listening To. Garden line i'm,
Your Host, skip richter and let's. See here we've got
(01:41:45):

Are you.
Speaker 2 (01:43:41):
I'm? Doing good. Thank, you.
Speaker 24 (01:43:45):
Well we've had a problem before and have, new malts
or actually it was last, season's malts but again we're
having the same problem with, artillery fungus and From everything,
i've researched there's no way to get rid of it
other than to.
Speaker 16 (01:44:04):
Remove, everything.
Speaker 6 (01:44:08):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
It'll do it could just. Come back it's, a fungus they're,
in nature, they're ubiquitous and there's not a spray. For
IT what i would do is stir up the mulch,
a lot, you know kind of like turn it over
with a rake, or something stir it up. Real good
that'll reduce it a. Little bit you could also throw
a fine layer of mulch over the old mulch and
(01:44:30):
that new dry mulch is not going to have the fungus.
Developed in minimizing the wetting of it will help a,
little bit especially that wet dry is where it triggers
the fungus to to expel those little pods out, from
it which is where it gets its. Name artillery those
(01:44:51):
are all tips that could kind of help a. Little
BIT but i understand what you're. Talking about those little boogers.
Ste everything they land.
Speaker 10 (01:44:58):
On, white cars, That's, Right.
Speaker 24 (01:45:03):
Okay, oh yeah it's awful and it doesn't come off
unless you like almost a razor blade or a.
Speaker 10 (01:45:11):
Credit card or something they get them.
Speaker 2 (01:45:12):
Off with, all right, all, right okay, YOU anyway i wish, You,
well brenda, thank you thank you for. The Car, jungle
land a product Distributed, by nelson is a, potting mix

Speaker 19 (01:46:07):
To, gardener hey, good morning Are, You yeah i've got
we sided the area is in. My yard we sided
some areas in my yard, last year, and uh just
from then, to now it looks like the soil is just.
Really compacted, you know like when you Look At Rigor
Saint augustine gras is kind of loose and, you know bushy.
IN there i just wondered if THERE'S something i could
(01:46:30):
put on that to break.
Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
That down. You, Know, well uh you can do things,
on top, you know, organic fertilizers, humans products microlife makes
something uh that is in a purple bag that's a humans.
Based product those over time, will help uh in the, short,
TERM though i would say the best thing you can
do is a core aeration followed by a compost. Top
(01:46:54):
dressing now that's where. You're, located uh. You're not you're
not too far away from where the FOLKS at B and.
B work B and B IS b Andb. Turf pros
their website is Bb turf pros dot com and their
phone number is seven to one three three see no
(01:47:15):
excuse me seven, one three two three four fifty five,
ninety eight and they can come out and. Do that
they that process is pulling plugs out of, the soil
which opens the soil to things moving down in, those
holes like organic matter like the, top dressing and it
begins to alleviate the. The compaction that's what golf courses
(01:47:36):
used to. Alleviate COMPACTION so I would i would recommend
that you, do that and if it's, really bad you
may want to. DO it i, would say do It
in april and then come back and do it again
even let's Say probably october something, like, that uh and
do a, second one or you could do it again
(01:47:57):
a little later in the summer just to kind of get.
Caught up one pass is not going to fix everything
if if it's.
Speaker 5 (01:48:03):
Really, bad, yeah okay, very good, All, right joe.
Speaker 2 (01:48:08):
All right, yes sir, all right folks. Went overtime we'll be. Right,

seventy four simple. As that seven one three two one

delivering plants, Backed up i'll exaggerate backed up around. The
block that's not much of. An exaggeration they're always getting
new shipments and moving. Things out the ground is always
covered with flats and flats, of things.
Speaker 11 (01:48:54):
But that's not.
Speaker 2 (01:48:55):
A problem this is an eight, acre property eight acres
you can, wander through and it's not just a nursery a.
Garden center this is a place where you'll see all
kinds of cool carved artwork. And stuff where you'll, see
fountains is everywhere you go, around there where, you'll see,
of course plants, and plants and it's. Just fun it's
(01:49:18):
like combining a botanical garden with a museum with a
garden center filled with. WONDERFUL pottery i got to mention,
their pottery incredible broad selection. Of pottery now when you,
go there you're going to find things that are, really
cool like they have the tumbling tom yellow tomato and.
Hanging basket by, the way that's a very. Productive tomato
i've put it on trial Before In harris COUNTY when
i work For the. Extension service tumbling tom yellow very
(01:49:39):
productive and it's called tumbling tom because the plant comes
up and just drapes. Back down so it's good for.
A basket you need to keep it moist and it'll
really produce. For you, of course gym's loaded with. Boogain
vellas just you stand back and you look at. The
color booga villas. Are gaudy, you know there's a handful
of things that that are just. Flat goudie pink flamingos
(01:50:03):
are one in boog. And vellas i'll tell. You this
you just take a pink flamingo in the middle of
a boogaviya and no one will notice the. Pink flamingo
booginvillias are just, beautiful plants flats, of color flats, of
herbs more pepper varieties than you even. Knew existed just,
wander through go into, the greenhouse going to the house.
(01:50:25):
Plant greenhouse oh, my gosh it is so. So nice you,
Like succulents. Go see you got acres to eight acres
to wander about and a good time to Have At
moss Nursery On toddville Road, In. Seabrook TEXAS. M. A
s nursery, dot Com m aas nursery. Dot com let's
go out Now, To porter texas and Visit with dale.
(01:50:48):
This Morning, hello dale welcome To. Garden line, Good morning
thank you for taking.
Speaker 16 (01:50:53):
My call my question TODAY is i have had someone
locally come out and story my yard. Or weeds it
spending over a year ago and it was quite a
bit more EXPENSIVE than i thought it, would be but.
That's okay it costs what. It costs but when they finished,
(01:51:15):
my yard they told me that NOW all i needed,
was rain and of course we didn't get any rain
for several weeks and the application.
Speaker 6 (01:51:26):
Didn't work in.
Speaker 16 (01:51:26):
My Yard so i'm wondering if there's an alternative.
Speaker 15 (01:51:30):
For having someone spray, my yard maybe with a.
Speaker 16 (01:51:32):
Different pesticide i'm an herbicide or something that take care.
Speaker 2 (01:51:36):
Of, it okay if they, were correct and that's, an
assumption if they were correct that you needed water to
move it down into, the soil then that was a
pre emerging herbicide and it would not kill any weeds
that are. Already existing it would prevent seeds of weeds from,
coming up not perennial weeds from coming back. Or anything
(01:51:58):
you are you are you looking at weeds that you
see in your lawn, right now or you're trying to,
prevent weeds well weeds and, How, okay well they need
to use a post emergent broad leaf weed control product
and it does not, require watering and, in fact it
(01:52:20):
should not be watered and the lawn should not. Be mowed,
you know three days before or after it. Is applied
you need leaves to spray it on of. The weeds
that's why you don't mow before. And afterwards you want
to give it some time to move down in the
weed plants and. Kill them that's what you're. Looking for
you might want to talk to some of the Folks
(01:52:40):
At Kingwoo garden Center Or Warren stunning kingwood and ask
them who they. WOULD recommend i don't know the folks
that go around spray and weeds Up, in porter but
post emergent. Broad leaf if you go online to my
website Gardening with skip, dot com look at the publication on,
herbicide products and depending on the weeds you're, going after
(01:53:00):
it tells you the products that you want them, to
use unless they have a better commercial formulation. Of, that,
okay sir, Very good.
Speaker 16 (01:53:08):
Very good, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
Thank you you bet. Appreciate that appreciate your call.
Speaker 7 (01:53:14):

Speaker 7 (01:54:21):
Your show i've got a couple. Of questions the first
one is about my avocado TREES that i got from orhe.
Speaker 21 (01:54:29):
Had them for a little over.
Speaker 7 (01:54:30):
A year that's still in the same fifteen gallon POT
that i got. Them from my mexicola is blooming the
poncho is not Any, concerns okay.
Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
NOT necessarily a fifteen gallon pot's kind of small for an.
Avocado though you know these trees out in the yard of,
you know they'll get forty feet tall or more except
for our winters that freeze them back occasionally in, your
AREA but i would maybe moving a little bigger container
if you could give it a little more space. To
grow make sure and keep the. Soul moist it's easy
(01:55:06):
in a pot with an avocado tree for it to
dry out too fast and for it to go into.
Drought stress so just extra care to keep it moist
and make sure it's in as much sunlight close to
full sun. As possible and those are all keys to
having the darn thing. Produce blooms and fruit, for you
which is why you have the.
Speaker 10 (01:55:25):
Avocado, tree sure and is this a good time to? RePOP, them.
Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
Yeah you could now be a fine time to, Do,
that okay and then.
Speaker 7 (01:55:39):
THAT'S great i have a real quick question about a
planted carrot seeds and beat. Seeds early but we got beautiful.
Fool edge but we have the carrot and just real tiny, All.
Speaker 2 (01:55:57):
Right bruce bottom line is you need to space. Them out,
more space don't overdo, the nitrogen and. More sun those
are the three things that cause what. You're describing so
it's going to be one. Of Those and I'M sorry
i got, to Run but i'm up against a. Break.
Here hey by, The way nitrofos impyrofolks fifteen to five.

Quick, question okay when you're putting down weed, AND feed
i know you mo before you. Do it you put
it down like in the same day then or should
you wait a few days after?
Speaker 7 (02:03:50):
You?
Speaker 2 (02:03:50):
Mo okay anytime you're gonna apply a pre, emergent product
it doesn't matter because it's going To go you're gonna
water it in and it's going to go to, The
soil so you, apply it you water. It in mowing.
Doesn't matter if it's a, post emergent you need. To
(02:04:10):
wait you need to wet the lawn, with irrigation and while,
it's wet put that combination fertilizer and post emergent weed
control granules out so they stick to the weed leaves
and do. Their work and you do not want to
MOW for i would say at least three, days before,
maybe more because you want you don't want to chop
(02:04:32):
off the. Weed leaves that's what's going to capture those
granules so. They work and then afterward you don't want
to mow for a couple of days because you want
the product to soak in to the weed tissues and
so you you separate the mowing For post emergent. Combo, products,
okay okay that. Makes sense it, makes sense, All right

existing weeds what about? Pests and diseases a plant. They've
got covered they got. All of it it's an. Old
(02:15:02):
time store it's got what the customers are. Going to want.
They carry it they even carry your bags out. For
you too that's part of the being the, old. Time
store right remember That those Days monday through saturday, nine

feed we're going To go to cyprus now And visit with.
(02:15:24):
Bill This, morning hello bill Welcome. To garden.
Speaker 21 (02:15:26):
LINE good morning i have two saga plants that the
last two years they haven't turned. BROWN at All i
guess i've taken too good a. Care of them so now.
Speaker 2 (02:15:39):
They are way overgrown for the area, that.
Speaker 21 (02:15:41):
THEY'RE in and i want TO know if i can
go ahead and trim them back OR what should i
do because they are definitely. Overgrown, the area.
Speaker 2 (02:15:50):
Yeah you. Know sego palms they're. NOT very, tremable i
mean you could cut the, long frond shorter but that,
would look weird and there's no trim. And the height
they just have a single butt up at the top.
Of the trunk sometimes they produce little what we call pumps.
Around the bottom little side plants come, out the base
maybe if they're too big for the area of moving
(02:16:11):
them as an option digging.
Speaker 21 (02:16:13):
And moving them it is more The prongs that. I'm
talking about the main stock of the. Plant is fine.
Speaker 2 (02:16:20):
It's, the, prowns yeah well they're just happy, to be
there and SO there's, no i, mean you could you could,
snip them back BUT that would i think it look.
Kind of weird but if you gotta do what.
Speaker 21 (02:16:34):
YOU gotta do i used to them all the way
to the to the stub, before every year and they
seem to always come. Back real strong but they have
been hearing that you're not supposed. To turn them if,
they're still green.
Speaker 2 (02:16:48):
WELL you can i mean the bottom line is usually
usually people just leave them and they remove the lower
most fronds, on the trunk especially as they start to
turn yellow or. Have some issues they normally aren't. Pruned
at all that's, the bottom line just for moving those
old fronds. At the bottom but do what you gotta
DO or and i would seriously consider if there's another
(02:17:12):
spot maybe that that would have a little More room, For, but,
thanks bill appreciate appreciate your. Call very much, The excuse me.
NELSON plant food i was trying to think of the
get the right name. In My Mouth nelson plant food
has so. Many excellent, products you, KNOW we talk i
talk all the Time, about the genesis the one we
(02:17:34):
use in the mix or in the soil where a plant's.
About to go. That's outstanding product but there's also a
nutrient star Vegetable, garden from nelson and this is an
excellent supply of nutrients for what. Your, vegetables need, now
you know they formulated it to get five different, sources
of nitrogen so you get, some release immediately but then
(02:17:57):
you get a little more release later and a, little
more relief so it gradually feeds your vegetables out through
a period of weeks or months even actually for that
now it's good for. A raised bed it's good for using,
in containers too any kind of garden beds. On The
landscape Nelson Neutra star vegetable garden comes in. A little
jar And also, these nelson products a, number of places
(02:18:20):
over a dozen places around town have the refill stations
where you take your, old jar in you pull the

You've had weeds germany for a, good while now and,
(02:22:46):
those of you even those of you, further up north
it we're we're getting into the weed prime weed germination.
Season for you you got to get the barricade down
before the. Weeds come up. It prevents them it is
a pre emergent, before they emerge as opposed to, a
post emergent which kills existing weeds. That have emerged. Barricade
(02:23:07):
per emerged it's much easier to prevent a weed seed
from becoming a weed plant than it is to kill,
the weed plant. Especially broad leaves when we get into
summer and, it gets hot some of the products that
kill weeds are Hard On. Your saint augustine barricade now
is the. Way to go. Follow the label always follow

Colin being there.
Speaker 16 (02:24:16):
These foggy morning.
Speaker 10 (02:24:18):
Is good enough for? A, barricade application.
Speaker 2 (02:24:23):
No you need about a third of an inch of
water to dissolve it off of the granules and wash it.
Into the soil it's not just a matter of. Getting
them wet. Get they'll, get the, humidity you know wets things,
that it touches but it doesn't it's not enough to
wash it down. Into. The soil.
Speaker 8 (02:24:42):
Okay is it better maybe to Wait for? The, may application.
Speaker 2 (02:24:49):
No because you're just missing out on weeds that will be.
GERMINATED by then i would, do. It now okay and
then if you if you Have, ongoing weed, germany you
know like grasp burds will germinate and warmer, weather and
stuff you you would just do another barricade about sixty
days or so after the. One you apply the second,
(02:25:09):
application Is optional but i'm. Just saying it just know
that it's not going to prevent weeds awesomer long. From, one, Application.
Speaker 10 (02:25:17):
Okay good thank. You, Appreciate, it yeah.

(02:27:35):
the space. Is very limited if you're interested in doing
the spring, gardening class there you need to call them
right away and get signed Up. For, THE arborgate okay i.
Don't even, know in fact probably. Maybe this morning people
have already been calling, And doing that but Go to the.
Arborgate Dot com the arborgate dot com that is the
(02:27:55):
website you. Need to know and for those of you
who Don't, know about arborgate it is Just west Of
tomball on highway twenty, nine to twenty just outside a
little bit, out of town right there on the. Left
hand side we are now going To, Go to spring
texas And. Talk, To, Brenda hello brenda Welcome. To garden.
Speaker 22 (02:28:14):
Line good morning just. A, QUICK question unfortunately i had
to have about a forty year old oak tree cut
down in. My front yard there was a flower. Bed
Around that so i've got a layer of chips and
like sawdust from that oak in the ground. Above MY
dirt do i need to REMOVE that before i do
(02:28:35):
my spring PLANNING or can i just put dirt in? Compost,
over that.
Speaker 2 (02:28:41):
Well that's. Up to you here's what's. Going to happen
if there's a lot of it that you're it's going
to tap a. Lot of nitrogen your plants aren't going
to do, super super well, Especially the sawdust but the
woodchips they'll age in. And be fine but it's going
to sink down organic matter when it. Composes away shrinks
(02:29:02):
that's why your pots are full one year and a
year or two later. They're half full it's because that
that organic matter. Is GOING away so i would get
as much out. As you can just try to, rake
it out, scoop it around get whatever, you can out
and then fill in with some. Good quality mix mix
it in together and leave it a little mounded over
because it is going, to sink down so what looks
(02:29:23):
like a little pictures mound now will end up. Being
flat later so THAT that's what i would. Do for
it and because there's, SOME in there i would work
a little extra nitrogen into, the soil initially just sprinkle
little fertilizer with a little extra nitrogen and like, a
lown fertilizer kind of, mix it down watered, and really
good and that'll help speed the decomposition and make up
(02:29:46):
for a little bit of the. Nitrogen tigh up that'll
happen for. A, short time okay.
Speaker 22 (02:29:51):
Not A problem there's i kind of stuck a, ruler
in it so it's, about an, inch but yeah IT'S
it's where i can. Give, it up okay thank, you
very much appreciate.
Speaker 2 (02:29:59):
It all, right you bet thank. You very Much, folks
at microlife so. Many good products if you want a
great fertilizer, For indoor plants microlife has an. Orange bottle
Liquid the Labels. Orange cort liquid you can get it,
in Bigger containers But microlife bio. Matrix orange label it's
(02:30:20):
a seven to. ONE three fertilizer i use it on
my indoor plants. All the time it works. Very very
well it's got that good. Boost of nitrogen indoors were,
primarily growing foliage and that makes nitrogen a, very important
nutrient especially, for Indoor Plants and microlife biomatrix is that kind.
Of product OUTDOORS the liquid i would suggest for A
(02:30:42):
Boost Is. Microlife ocean harvest it's. A blue label it's
a four to two three fish based fertilizer and you
can do folier with it, if you want which you
could Do with the, biomatrix AS well but i wouldn't
do the Folier. On the biomatrix on, the indoor plants
it's a brownish, liquid and organic and so unless you,
rents you know. Spot it off, there's some spotting so
(02:31:06):
it's primarily for putting. On the soil we don't follow
your fat spray spray our, indoor plants Anyway but the
biometrix outdoors you can do that and it. Works really
well so there's a couple of products for. You to
consider let's take a. Little break here i'm gonna turn
It over to erica. For the news boy does she
have a lot to talk? About these days and we'll
be right back. With, your calls doreen you'll. Be first

Now hello doreene Welcome. To garden.
Speaker 27 (02:33:22):
Line good morning my question is is it too late
in the season to have.
Speaker 9 (02:33:29):
Tree, roots, cut.
Speaker 2 (02:33:34):
Well no when you're talking, about tree roots you're usually
talking about a pretty good sized root and that root
has a ton of little feeder roots that go. Out
from it so the difference between Cutting that in november
and cutting it now is not that big. Of a
deal it's not going to replace it in a few
months of winter. That it has the sooner you do
it from fall. On the better but go ahead and
(02:33:58):
do what you. Need to do i'd say the thing
is minimize how much root, cutting you do like maybe
one sizeable route, at a time, and then, wait you
know and next spring do, the same thing or next
fall do. The same thing if you need to.
Speaker 27 (02:34:14):
Take, more work yeah it's starting to break, up My
driveway so i'm.
Speaker 10 (02:34:19):
Getting, nervous it.
Speaker 2 (02:34:21):
Yeah well you can also you can also call fix.
Myslab dot com they do the floating. OF the drivers
i don't know if you've, ever seen this but they
can drill a hole and they fill it full of
stuff that lifts it up and, levels it out and.
That is great one avoids you having to do that. To, your,
TREES yeah okay.
Speaker 10 (02:34:42):
I appreciate.
Speaker 2 (02:34:42):
You thank, you all, right thank you. Appreciate your call.
You take care appreciate. That very much. Let's see here
we're Gonna go to Meil. In, Tom, ball hello Mel.
Welcome to.
Speaker 8 (02:34:55):
Gardner thank you i'm, late This morning and i'm gonna call.
Your FIRST up but i got a situation. With Magnolia
tree and I'M pretty sure i remember in the back
you covered this with some other guy about trimming them
at this. TIME of year I was always i went
online and always read that they're supposed to wait until the,
fall or something when the when the flowers fall, off
(02:35:17):
and everything and then and, THEN.
Speaker 2 (02:35:19):
Trim well i. Got no, trouble trimm? Trummm? What's it yeah?
Trimmim in?
Speaker 7 (02:35:25):
Winter?
Speaker 2 (02:35:26):
Are now mel i'm sorry to. Interrupt you there trim
him in? Winter are now is. A good time you
can trim them in the summer some if, you need
to but try to get most of it done for. It,
Gets warm.
Speaker 8 (02:35:36):
Okay it's okay for me to trim Them back because
i'm supposed. To, Cut him evidently i'm supposed to cut,
him way back becoring, to my, wife you know because
they're heavy and. All that, STUFF all right i can
do it THEN without bother i can go ahead and.
Speaker 2 (02:35:48):
Cut, THEM up well i don't want to get you
in trouble, at the, house but uh pruning a lot
on a, ON a magnolia i don't know if. I'd
recommend that if you want to send me a, Picture
of it i'll take a look at it and then i'll.
Jump in there you just got to keep me out
of trouble, at, your House okay don't SO that's. ALL i.
KNOW i was.
Speaker 7 (02:36:09):
I was.
Speaker 8 (02:36:09):
Against i, Was you know i'm glad, you said, IT
because no i was kind. Of thinking, TOO you know
i don't want to take it down to the numbings
to it because there'd be a big. Old bear spot
and this thing is, not all, that you.
Speaker 10 (02:36:21):
Know this is.
Speaker 5 (02:36:21):
Very old one, so ALL right well I appreciate that
i can at least trim it.
Speaker 2 (02:36:24):
Back and look. That'd, be, good, okay, Yeah Sir okay
and i'll be glad look at a picture if, you
want to if you want to, go that route that. Is,
for sure HEY a's am i what. A great product
it is a. Micro nutrient product it. Is trace minerals
what does all that. Mean micro trace it means that
these nutrients are only needed. In tiny amounts but don't let.
(02:36:46):
Small fool you. They are essential so if let me give,
you an example if you could take all the boron
out of your soil or all the manganese out, of
your soil a plant could not grow because They're a
central that's. What essential means they have to have. It,
now there, fortunately you know we do have a lot
(02:37:07):
of micros, in the soil but when you put an,
asmit product down you're rebuilding that content in the soil
or you're. Filling it in and not all soils have
everything they need in terms of. Micros for sure and as.
Mite Provides that asmite texas dot com. Is a website
you can do azmite anytime of the. Year you want
(02:37:28):
typically people will do it when they fertilize because they're
thinking about fertilizer and they got the. Spread er out
just remember to separate fertilizers in general from the azmite
application because the particle, Size is different so don't. Mix
them together but run out there in azamite, and then
fertilize or run out, there and fertilized then come back
(02:37:48):
load up on azimite and. Do the asmite either. Way you.
Go that's it it works as. Simple as that we're
going to Go now to katie And talk to. George, This,
morning hey george Welcome. To garden, line Had more mister skip.
Speaker 5 (02:38:02):
QUESTION for you.
Speaker 25 (02:38:05):
I have a two very, tall PALM trees and i
am noticing that during out the year.
Speaker 28 (02:38:17):
There's quite a big weeds right around. This palm tree
is IT safe that i can that NO matter what
i call, them by hand they still. Keep coming back
i'm afraid to put anything there to harm because that's
a very healthy. And GOOD looking, like i, said it's
(02:38:38):
tall about twenty five thirty feet. Tall palm tree what
do YOU recommend that i can put down? To, minimizers weeds.
Speaker 2 (02:38:47):
Yeah you can you can spray whatever post emergent you.
Want on them just remember that all you need to
do is barely what the leaf, Of the weed so
don't drench it where waters running down the soil. With
the spray just barely, with the leaves and your palm tree.
Will be safe if there happens to be any kind
of a butt or shoot at the bottom sending, out
(02:39:08):
a leaf maybe it's a. Little side shoot some palms
will do that most, don't you, know protect that don't get.
It on that but just spraying it on the weed
leaves around a palm tree will not hurt. The palm
tree apply it at the correct right and you. Should
Be fine, and i'm?
Speaker 10 (02:39:23):
Sorry what again? What to use?
Speaker 2 (02:39:28):
Do you know if you weeds or broad leaf or
grassy or both moth both. Okay for both if you
go to my Website gardening with skip dot com and
you look at my herbicide list for both grasses, and
broad leaves. There's two ingredients one is glufhocinate and. One
(02:39:51):
IS glyphosate and i know those are words that people don't,
just automatically remember but it lists the products that contain
one or the. Other Of those So gardening with skip
dot com, the HERBICIDE list, and i, WOULD you, KNOW

we can make it fun by just following a few
(02:41:22):
simple principles. As, We go now. Nature's way resources first.
Principle soil soil when the soil's right it makes you
look like you got. A green thumb that's. The bottom
line it's the most important, thing we do. Single most
important lots of other important. Sun, versus shade. Yeah that matters, Keeping,
them watered. Yeah that matters picking the right plant, to
(02:41:44):
grow there of. Course that matters but assuming that we,
got those right how do you make a? Plant, half.
Success well soil it's. All About soil nature's way resources

Folks At. Nitrofoss sweet green when you, put it down.
It dissolves away think of it as almost it's, not
(02:43:13):
dried molasses but think of, it like that and you.
Put it down it's a granule, first of all smells good,
as molasses does which is the base, for sweet green and.
You'd water it. It dissolves in it stimulates microbial activity
because it is a, high carbon molecule and it releases
the nitrogen eleven percent nitrogen. In that granule so you
(02:43:35):
only need about ten pounds per thousand square feet and
you just, get a greenup a good quick greenup. On

Speaker 9 (02:44:16):
You're.
Speaker 27 (02:44:16):
LIMITED time skip i put down some barricade just before,
that Big rain and i'm afraid it might.
Speaker 10 (02:44:25):
Have washed away DO you think i need to? Reapply or.
Speaker 2 (02:44:30):
Well it is possible for anything. TO wash away i
mean because you could literally get shoot erosion that just
takes a. Soil Even off so i'm not saying it,
didn't wash away but barricade ties up to the, soil
very well and if you can get it into, this
all surface. YOU'RE probably okay i would, not reapply it
because over applying a p emergent weed control, is not.
Good not good so let's just say you're, good for
(02:44:53):
now watch. How THINGS go but i would not, Recommend, reapplying,
it okay.
Speaker 27 (02:44:58):

nothing to do with, the arcade application you can go ahead,
and do, That all right. THANK you man. I appreciate
that we're going to Run to lin i'm trying to
get them. All done here we're Gonna go To. Linn And,
Tomball hello lynn Welcome. To garden, Line. Good morning kip i've.
Speaker 20 (02:45:37):
GOT a question i saved some candle ope seeds from
a SWEET candlope and i put them, in my FREEZER
hoping that i can save them and let them throw
out and plan them in.
Speaker 2 (02:45:48):
A raised garden? Will that? Work are there. That won't happen,
it will work especially if they dried out a little
bit before you put them. In moist seed the water
in the seed. Is not good it freezes and creates
crystals in the seed and can. Destroy that embryo once,
seed drives out you can put it in very cold
(02:46:10):
conditions and it'll. Be just fine so assuming that that,
was fairly dry then you.
Speaker 20 (02:46:16):
Should, be okay okay just let them fall out and
let them, dry back OUT and then i can plant
them in. A, Raised garden.
Speaker 2 (02:46:25):
Yes and what you don't want to do is take
them out of the freezer and let them warm up.
Because condensation, forms you know anything you take out, of
the freezer you get, condensation on it out, of the
air and then put it back in. The freezer again
so if you, take it out if it's in, a
sealed container you can let it warm up and, once
it's warm then. Open the container but if you're going
(02:46:47):
to put anything like if you're going to use some
of them but not, all of them you Don't want
to you don't want.
Speaker 20 (02:46:52):
That, condensation, problem okay correct they're in a freezer BAG
is what i. Froze, them in.
Speaker 2 (02:46:58):
Okay you, Should, be okay. Okay good luck just remember On,
THE garden LINE i don't i don't, Charge, her ADVICE
alind but i do ask for half the produce you
grow as a, result of it so we'll.
Speaker 21 (02:47:08):
Call it.
Speaker 2 (02:47:08):
Even thank you if, it doesn't work you're not bringing, Me,
any right okay Let's go To. John, And, tomball hey
john Welcome. To garden, Line.
Speaker 12 (02:47:19):
Good morning skip quick, question for you.
Speaker 15 (02:47:21):
Sir by texts are we supposed to trim off the
old blooms or will they?
Speaker 10 (02:47:29):
Just fall off.
Speaker 7 (02:47:32):
They?
Speaker 2 (02:47:32):
Don't fall off and, What you'll notice i've got a
iText and it's starting, to SPROUT out and i didn't
get around to triming, at this winter and the ends
of the shoots. Are all dead the little bloom stalk
you know from last year, that, looks like well it
is a bunch of. Seeds on there uh so if
you can go in and, TRIM those back i let
mine wait until the, new growth starts BECAUSE that's when
(02:47:53):
i know how far to. Prune them, BACK you know
i cut it right above where new growth, is coming
out so that that's a a good way to go if.
You'll do, that, but yeah, Perfect thank you skip you Bet.
Enjoy that vitex, that's a. Great great plan we don't
see enough of. Those for, sure, ALL right well i
(02:48:17):
think we got all the call staying. Care of that
that WENT faster. THAN i expected i always wonder at
the end of the show if we're going to make
it through all. Of, THEM there well i want to
remind you. This is important if you just. Tuned in
Lately Spring branch ace Hardware is where i'm going to
