Speaker 1 (00:01):
Seven twos our time here in Houston's borning news. Betch little.
He is a former Ken Paxton defense attorney. He is
an incoming House Republican elected in District sixty five in
North Texas. To get any snow match, did.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
We get any snow?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Did you get any any snow from the storm?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah? The city is complete. Yeah, the city is almost unusable.
All the kids are out of school, everybody's sledding, nobody's working.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Yeah, we got a lot of stuff. In other words,
gridlock exactly what do you would expect?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
It's locked up?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
No kidding? All right, Well, let's get back to the
House speaker situation. You're coming in. You're proposing a two
term limit for House speaker. Why do you think we
need that? Physician's got too much power.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
The starship in the Texas Houses has been born on
the side of the Conservatives for a generation, in the
early decades, it's been under the control of the Conservative.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
It's always been under control of the party.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Problem is the one of the unparty consolidates or replicates
its power is fear. Fear that this person is going
to be in the position for a decade and it's
going to be able to kill all of your bills
the whole time you're starving in office. They appoint all
the committees, They determine the composition of all the committees,
and they determine which bills live and die. And if you,

(01:21):
if you can remove the power from the speaker, prevent
that person from consolidating campaign finance, uh, you know, laundering
uh campaign donations out to his quote unquote friends in
the Republican Party.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
The we might be able to get some page the snow.
The snow seems to have worked his way into a
cell phone signal. So you know, we'll just stick with
you as long as we can here because it's kind
of cutting in and out. But but but I understand
what you're saying. But it almost sounds like it's a
bigger problem with how much the setup of what the
Speaker of the House of Texas is capable of doing
is the bigger problem than how long they're doing it.

(02:01):
Did they have to have too much power? Do they
need to take some power away from them?

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, we need to get rid of We need to
make sure that person can't serve in that role forever.
So taking uh term limiting that person will change the
way that the lobby interacts with the speaker. Right now,
the speaker raises millions of dollars that he distributes out
to members that he's better faithful to him, and it's
it's how he perpetuates his regime.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Okay, what do you make of the current situation? There
is no currently we don't know how speaker we had.
We still have the same two candidates we had a
week before and the week before that, and the week
before that. When does this get resolved? In your mind?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Jimmy, this is the best situation Conservatives have ever been
in an effective House. We're less than a week out
from the speakership vote and no one knows who the
speaker's can be. It's the first time in decades that's
ever been the case. That's a good thing, and the reason.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Is no one has the votes right now.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
So we've got David Cook and we've got Dustin Burroughs.
Dustin Burroughs kind of represents the Uni Party. David Cook
represents our best opportunity to really transform the way the
Texas House works and reform not only the speakership but
the interaction of the members with the speakership. We're in
the best position we could possibly be to change the

(03:24):
way that things are done. So no one knows who's
gonna have the boats on January fourteenth, but the speakership boat,
in my view, it could last for days.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Yeah, okay, we shall see what happens. Thank you for
your time, sir, appreciated. Good luck with the snow. Mitch
Little former Ken Paxton defense attorney. He's a new state
representative from North Texas where evidently they're having some cell
phone issues this morning. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Do you guy have the roads all cleared for the
semi final game tonight up at Jerry World, Ohio State?

(03:56):
I mean, folks in Ohio what to do in the snow?
I don't know. If you know those of us from Texas,
you know from ut know exactly what to do, and
hopefully everybody got out there early
