Speaker 1 (00:01):
You know that funny when I hear blue bonnett, I
can think of Margarine. Everything's better with blue bond and
on it, you know, But I guess that's all where
you're born and raised. Right seven twenty two is so
time here in Houston's warning News. I never thought of
blue bond It says relates to learning, but I know
the Katie ICD School Board is considering adding bluebondet learning
to its schools. Bark and Calhoun joins us, Katie ISD
(00:23):
board member. I'm looking all over the site for all
these references to the Bible. I'm not finding any. Morgan
is tell us about how the Bible is integrated into
this learning and why maybe parents shouldn't be that worried
about it.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
So good morning. And what we're seeing is when we
had a presentation given, it wasn't even we didn't vote
on anything, we didn't put anything before the board to
even consider. It was just, hey, this is an open
resource that State of Texas has made available to us,
and it's free, and we're in a fiscally tight yar,
so it's a probably a good idea for us to
(00:57):
consider something doesn't cost us a lot of money. With
this being developed, are their biblical references? You know, I've
heard the criticism, and I have yet to see where
there is any proselytizing, which is what a lot of
people are saying is happening. I haven't seen anything. We
had an educator and an SBO evenver come and give
(01:17):
us that presentation, and that's what started all the nonsense.
It's well, it was just presentation. The one concern that
we did see come up was reference to the Golden Rule.
And apparently that's a problem because do unto others as
you are doing too others as you would have them
do unto you. It's not okay.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Apparently, who doesn't think it's okay to treat others the
way you want to be treated yourself.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
It's something that in that same reference that they mentioned
not only Christianity, but they mention Buddhism and Hinduism. So
we have three major world religions that are all referenced
circling around the Golden Rule, and that is apparently not okay. Wow,
So it just falls flat on its face when you
(02:08):
really look into this. If somebody can give me, you know,
page and reference number, then we could look at it.
But I haven't seen it yet.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
That's really quite amazing, isn't it that?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
It really is?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
And the thing you hear all the time. How many
times do you hear people say, oh, separation of churches,
state you can't do that is if somehow like you
said this is this is going to become a Bible
sermon every time the kids come to school.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
You know, it's an interesting thing because when you have
the religion of woke, we don't get to separate anything
away from that. Yet we seem to still be having
issues inside of our school districts and across the state
of Texas with that method of proselytizing. But anything that
(02:50):
references morality, anything that could benefit our students or our
community from that sense, that's not okay. But if we
want to go in another direction, then that's totally fine,
just as long as you're on the right side of that.
So it's a little it's a disingenuous at best. And
(03:12):
when we come from we're confronting this, we're looking at
a school board election that we have coming up April
twenty second, early voting, and these school board elections matter
because of reasons like this. If you do not elect
people to your local school boards who are going to
have a spine to stand up for what is right,
for what is good. It's going to fold these elections matter.
(03:34):
Discuss is important because this directs the future of our children,
which makes a big difference to all of us.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, I would.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Future doctor, your future lawyer is being educated in Texas
right now.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
I would suggest that this school board election for Katie
id as important as any national election because they auld say,
it gets right down to the local government. That's that's
who impacts most people's lives, especially the lives of young people.
Is the local government? All right, Morgan Calhoun, when do
you think y'all would be considering whether or not you're
going to institute this program.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
We haven't even put it on the agenda, so we
won't make any decisions until maybe this summer, if we
even talk about it at all. So it's not even
on the agenda. If our board president, god willing he
gets re elected, Victor Perez, please go out and vote
April twenty second early, if you're listening to this in
the Kati area. We definitely need him. So that's one
of those things that we'll address when we.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Come to it okay, Morgan Calhoun, thank you for your time.
Appreciate it. That's Katie. ID board member Morgan Calhoun seven
