Speaker 7 (02:21):
The people want me to find it, and I've had
a great help with Elon Musk, who's been terrific.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
Adding that he wants Elon to look into the departments
of Education and Defense. Meantime, and Obama appointed federal judge
blocked Musk and Doge from accessing certain government systems, specifically
the Department of Treasury. This is not sitting well with
the sitting administration.
Speaker 8 (02:45):
He is following through on the mandate that the American

our law enforcement system are not going to be partisan

did get an arrest in Friday sexual assault of a

But students remain on edge.
Speaker 9 (03:24):
Definitely walking with a group. Now, that's why we're both
together right now, even in daylight, because that last crime
happened like during the day, so like just walking with
someone especially now I bought pepper.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
Spray that woman with our TV partner, Channel two. When
we had more violent crime over the weekend, two teenagers

turns out he was out on bond for other crimes.

Speaker 10 (04:11):
We have continuous people that are going home to their

and detention facilities that are open today. Will continue to
do ops in the different communities to get these dangerous
criminals off of our streets and to get them home.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
These efforts are paying off. On Sunday, DPS posted on

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Border crossings on Saturday.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
The radical left, though, is resisting the border security efforts,
and it's worse this time around than it was during
his first term.
Speaker 11 (04:43):
They've done everything from lying about ICE operations to leaking
operation details.
Speaker 12 (04:48):
This is very concerning because the problem I'm going to
tell you here is that eventually someone is going.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
To get hurt.
Speaker 12 (04:53):
So the people putting the leaks in the memos, they
don't care.
Speaker 11 (04:56):
Retired ICE special Agent Victor Avila says, all these people
are doing is making their communities more dangerous.
Speaker 12 (05:02):

their politics.
Speaker 14 (05:59):
More than three quarter of a million Californians have moved
to Texas over the last fifteen years, by far the
most transplants from any state, but so far they haven't
changed Texas politics. Chuck de Voor the Texas Public Policy
Foundation says there's a good reason for.
Speaker 15 (06:11):
That, other than perhaps a few exceptions in areas like Austin.
Generally speaking, you're having people moving here from places like
California who, according to the polls, are more conservative than

Y'all remember the Carls Junior commercial from probably about twenty
years ago with the very sexy female on the mechanical
bull a juicy burger that's kind of dripping all over her,
and you think to yourself, Damn, I'm hungry. I could
(08:08):
really go for a burger right now. I had a
flashback yesterday. I would like to I had a lot
of flashbacks yesterday. I watched the Super Bowl thinking I'm
not gonna like a lot of what I'm going to see,
and quite honestly, I ended up liking a lot of
things I saw. I mean, they played the black national
anthem again, I got over it. Aside from that, though,
(08:31):
it really wasn't the normal preachy thing, except for maybe
the halftime show, which I'm still trying to figure out
what was going on there, but anyway, I haven't understood
a Super Bowl halftime showing quite some time. But the commercials,
the commercials. The Carl's Junior commercial featured a very sexy,
scantily clad woman with a really big, juicy burger with
(08:57):
guys I can't tell if they're lusting over her, over
the burger or maybe both. And I thought, Wow, in
this age of d ei and all the other things
they go along with it, we really made a turn here,
right all all of a sudden, normal American societal men
(09:19):
are different than women. It's okay for women to be sexy,
and it's okay for men to think women are sexy.
It all came back in one commercial, and I was
shocked by it and pleased by it. In the crowds
cheering Trump and Boo boon and Taylor swept, I'm thinking, Okay, things, things,
We've turned the corner here. That's a good thing. Five ten,
(09:41):
Time for traffic. That really happened, Yeah, it really happens.
To gut, it's crazy. It is crazy. I thought I was.
I thought it was in a surreal world last night,
the planet. I can't believe it about that. I knew
they would cheer Trump. Let's go to uh, let's go
to our South Loop problem.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Here. See if they picked that up.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
My work wife, Christina Cruz has got a eye on
that and south Loop.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Six ten double checking.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Okay, they've cleared the work between Fannin and Kirby. That
was westbound. That was a complete shutdown of the south Loop.
My good hazardous friends like Terry Smith can now take
either side the loop. You choose north or south. If
you can't go through it, and there's always a good reason.
Now there's going to be for the next year or

Speaker 5 (10:44):
We're gonna get some rain this week.
Speaker 18 (10:45):
We are going to get some rain. I don't think
we're gonna see much rain today. We certainly have plenty
of clouds and there is a slight chance of a
shower or two. What you're probably going to notice the
most is that our temperatures have cooled down. This is
how February supposed to feel. Temperatures today mid upper sixties.
(11:06):
Now we have that possibility of rain the next couple
of days and eighty percent chance of showers and storms Tomorrow,
ninety percent chance of more rain Wednesday. We're going to
warm it back up into the seventies tomorrow and Wednesday.
But then when that next cold front clears out of
here Thursday, there's still a slight chance of a shower.
It's going to be a chilly day though briefly mid
(11:27):
to upper fifties. Thursday and Friday's dry. We're going to
warm back up into the mid sixties. So by the
end of the week it's, you know, back to typical
February again.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
As no surprise, right that we've got federal judges involved
in trying to van Elon Musk from getting access to
the things he needs to get access to to do
his job. We had a federal judge who made it
off night ruling Saturday, blocking Elon Musk and the Department
of Government Efficiency otherwise known as DOGE from accessing the
Treasury Department's payment systems to dole out trillions of dollars
(12:17):
each year. They want to see where the money goes.
They want to follow the money trail. US District Judge
Paul Ingelmeyer his ruling was more extensive than the agreement
the administration reached earlier in the week to temporarily limit
access to two doze personnel. The judge said that no
one other than civil servants with a need for access
(12:39):
to perform their job duties could access the information that
would explicitly prohibit special government employees, which Elon Musk is
and those detailed from outside of the Department of Treasury
from gaining that access. So he's going to have to
go back to court. By the way, Elon Musk, lashing
out as a very powerful way, said somebody ought to
(13:01):
impeach that judge. More in that story coming up next.
But first, at five, funny, let's do a little traffic
and weather together. Starting to do Skymike, let's.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Check your belts and loops here, I see these all

Speaker 4 (13:10):

we look good. We've cleared up the leftover roadwork. From
the weekend on the South Loop around Fannin at NRG
that was had big blockings for the weekend.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
It's done. We're good to go.
Speaker 4 (13:23):

Speaker 3 (14:49):
So doge not being cooperated with at this particular point
time as it relates to the US Treasury Department the
federal judges. I was just telling you in overnight ruling
on Saturday blocking Musket his Department of Government Efficiency from
accessing the Treasury Department's famous systems, because that, of course
would tell Elon exactly where the money's going, how much money,
(15:09):
and where it's going. Elon Musk calling for the impeachment
of that federal judge who blocked his access. Here's a
report from Elina Sharrazi, a news nation.
Speaker 20 (15:22):
It is ramping up and Elon Musk is pushing back.
We know that he took to X this morning overnight
as while he's imposting a flury of things, starting with
as you mentioned there, quote a corrupt judge protecting corruption.
Speaker 13 (15:33):
He needs to be impeached.
Speaker 20 (15:35):
Now all caps, exclamation mark. He also posted most recently
quote I'd like to propose that the worst one percent
of appointed judges, as determined by elected bodies, be fired
every year. This will weed out the most corrupt and
least competent. And he also this, of course, in response
to federal judges blocking both the President and his right
(15:57):
hand man, Elon Musk attempts to cut spending with DOJE
accessing the Treasury Department's data as you mentioned off the
top there, Laura, and changing as well. The landscape of
the federal workforce. We know the biggest talker right now
is the buyout program, which is essentially the President's plan
to offer workers nearly eight months of pay and benefits.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
To leave their jobs.
Speaker 20 (16:16):
The White House telling News Nation over sixty thousand workers
have signed up to leave their jobs a while being
paid until the end of September, and Musk says the
reductions could result in one hundred billion dollars in savings.
That's based off of what would be the average government's
salary of about six figures Laura. But the Press Secretary
Caroline Levitt calling federal workers who work remotely lazy. She
(16:40):
also said that if they don't want to come into
the office and they want to rip off the American people,
and they're welcome to take this buyout.
Speaker 21 (16:48):
Laura.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Wow, some tough words there, all right.
Speaker 22 (16:50):
At the temporary block on President Trump's federal worker buyout
plan holds until tomorrow, we see. So do we expect
the judge will come back tomorrow with any their decisions?
Speaker 5 (17:01):
Are we going to hear this on Monday?
Speaker 23 (17:03):
Right?
Speaker 20 (17:04):
We know that us Sister Judge Georgia O'Toole Junior, he
did pause this plan that was actually going into effect
until Monday afternoon, So that is when that will stop.
But as you mentioned, that's going to be when everyone
will show up in court. He will hear both sides
of the argument in court as well as here from
the unions, and then ultimately he will be making his decision.
(17:25):
But here is what Donald Trump had to say on
Friday about the money that is being spent on government programs.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
Here's the president himself. We're talking about trillions of dollars.
Speaker 7 (17:34):
It will be in the end trillions of dollars being
absolutely wasted, and perhaps illegally, I would say, certainly in
many cases illegally.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
There you go, President on wasting money. Those needs more cooperation,
not less, but there's certainly not going to get it
from anywhere on the left, are they? Five twenty six

take a look at your money. Jeff Bellinger's here and.

Today we get government reports on inflation and retail sales.
They'll be the highlights later in the week. This is

Speaker 6 (20:58):
It's five thirty two on ktr It's good morning. Our
top story. The left has been throwing a hissy fit
literally because President Trump revoked the security clearance of former
President Joe Biden. But they ignored the fact that Biden
did it to Trump four years ago.
Speaker 26 (21:17):
Let me ask you, then, something that you do have
oversight of as president. Should former President Trump still receive
intelligence briefings?
Speaker 5 (21:26):
I think not. That was Biden on CBS back then.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
Trump also revoked the clarence for former Secretary of State
Anthony Blincoln New York Attorney General Letitia James in Manhattan,
da Alvin Brad. Trump also became the first sitting president
in history to attend to Super Bowl. You got a
standing ovation from the crowd in New Orleans. We also
talked to Fox before the game. You'll hear that at
six o'clock. Plus the crowd reaction to Taylor Swift, which
(21:53):
was not good for her. The President is draining the swamp,
but it's only been three weeks and there's a lot
of work that still needs to be done.
Speaker 27 (22:03):
And it's all due to decades of DC decline.
Speaker 28 (22:07):
It's going to be a hard test. This is just
four years. It's forty years of just a ever growing
administrative state which is now being questioned really for the
first time at its fundamental core.
Speaker 27 (22:17):
That's Rick Manning, President of Americans for a limited Government.
Speaker 28 (22:21):
The fact the matter is it can be done. What
we're seeing right now is the American public, for the
first time is really leaning into the idea of cutting
the side of this cupe of government.
Speaker 27 (22:30):
And learning more about it every single day. Jeff Biggs,

Speaker 6 (22:36):
The Boy Scouts of America over Super Bowl weekend officially
changes its name to Scouting America. Their reason to quote
meet the evolving needs of young people, which is a
fancy term for going woke. Now we knew that national
liberal media outlets we're getting tax payer money.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
We found that out last week thanks to Doge and.
Speaker 6 (22:57):
Now, according to Texas Scorecard and this state Controller's website,
left wing media outlets in Texas. For instance, the Houston
Chronicle got hundreds of thousands in your taxpayer dollars from
different state agencies.
Speaker 21 (23:11):
I think it's unfortunate that individuals who want to position
themselves as being independent when they're reporting the news are
nonetheless tanning their handout taking cash from those that they're
reporting on.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
Michael quinn Sullivan with Texas Scorecard told KTRH that Texans
should want to know why their money is being spent
like this. The Controller's office did not respond to a
request for comment by KTRH five point thirty four. A
blue collar boom already underway as manufacturing grows optimistic with
Trump's due term. Wright Parts John Carney says the sector

Speaker 30 (24:03):
So ironically, we may get a bit.
Speaker 29 (24:05):
Of a boost to the economy from people who despise
Donald Trump.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
He says, this is the greatest business confidence turnaround ever
recorded Americans say they're stressed out by money, but yet
they're still spending like crazy.
Speaker 17 (24:19):
Retail sales during this past holiday season grew a surprisingly
high four percent compared to twenty twenty three numbers.
Speaker 31 (24:24):
In a lot of respects, the economy has been better
than people have given it credit for unemployment rates down
to four percent. Wage growth has been solid, it's been
outpacing inflation for a couple of years.
Speaker 30 (24:35):
Now and great.
Speaker 17 (24:36):
Senior industry analyst Ted Rossman says, there's always a way
to bring in more money. If you're strapped for cash,
you could.
Speaker 31 (24:41):
Pull levers to try to bring in more income.
Speaker 32 (24:44):
Maybe that's a side hustle, or a new job, or
asking for a raise at work.
Speaker 17 (24:47):
Sah Lewis News Radio seven forty KHRH.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
Thank you, Jared.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
Another impact of the Biden economy, more young people are
falling behind on their mortgage payments. So are we heading
towards a two thousand and eight style financial crisis?
Speaker 5 (25:02):
Maybe, but then again maybe not.
Speaker 33 (25:04):
For instance, you can have a real state investor come
in and just take over your payment, so you're behind
in six months. Can you have an investor come over
and take over those payments and then be able to
help you get into a rental.
Speaker 6 (25:16):
Real estate expert Jennifer Hammond tells KTRH that online two
thousand and eight, we know the warning signs and we
have more options to avoid a financial crisis. Stock futures
this morning are up across the board. This after reports
that the President will place a twenty five percent tariff
on all aluminum and steel imports this week. He also
directed the Treasury Department to stop making new pennies. It
(25:40):
costs more than two cents to make a single penny,
and according to the Labor Department, now fifty percent of
private sector workers are now participating in four one case.
Speaker 34 (25:50):
Two main reasons for that one is auto enrollment. That's
where companies automatically sign you up. If you don't want
to participate, then you have to opt out. Reason number two,
the cost of a company pays to have a four
oh one K has come way down.
Speaker 6 (26:04):
KTRH moneyman Patsion says that in companies that auto and
roll participation jumps all the way up to eighty two
percent five point thirty seven.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
Chaos in Philadelphia as the Eagles win the Super Bowl
forty to twenty two over Kansas City. The former Channel
WU high school star Jalen Hurts is named MVP. It's
the second Super Bowl championship in the Eagles history. We've
got video of the chaos on the streets though at
KTRH dot com and the Rocket snap a six game
losing street beating Toronto ninety four to eighty seven. I'm
(26:39):

Speaker 5 (26:50):
The new process are fantastic. Get Houston's News, Weather and Traffic.
How I listened to KTRH instead later.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
Love debate bro taxes on them. Trailer D five thirty
eight is our time here in Houston's Parting News. Yeah,
property taxes are the bane of our existence. I mean
we have some of the worst in the entire country.
I mean we don't have a state income tax. That's true,
but as I think I've commented before, we have we
are equal to many other states. You if you put
(27:20):
our property tax together with their property tax plus income
tax a lot of states, it would it turned out
to be just about the same where you know you
put to the income tax I paid, probably the comp
my property tax is about what I paid in Virginia
for my income tax plus by property tax seads have
(27:41):
to be about the same. But you know, we live
in Texas. We're always going to complain about taxes. But
who has the worst of the worst as far as
the metro Houston area goes. And it's kind of interesting.
If you live in Parland, you have the tenth highest
effective tax rate in the entire country and the highest
(28:03):
in Texas the entire state, coming in two point one
six percent of assessed value. Pairland also ranks highly in
terms of actual taxes paid, despite having a median home
value about three hundred and eighty thousand dollars compared to
a national median average of four hundred twenty thousand dollars. Wow, So, Paaralane,
(28:25):
we've if you live in paraland you pay the most
a task a seta comes in second here in the
Greater Houston area twentieth in the nation effective tax rate
one point ninety four percent. It's it's not technically it's
a census designated place, is not a city or a township.
A Taska seta, but it's it's certainly seen rapid growth
in recent years. Conro came in next the twenty first
(28:49):
in the nation, number three in the Houston area, has
an effective tax rate of one point eight eight percent.
Like many Houston suburbs and exurbs, Conro's experienced significant growth
rate over the line twenty years. In fact, Conroe and
the Tascasita named among the fastest growing places of the
entire country. Sugar Land came in number twenty eight in
the entire nation, number four in the Houston region. The
(29:10):
tax rate is one point seven to seven percent, and
the City of Houston came in fifth out of the
top five in the area effective tax rate of one
point seven percent, number thirty five in the entire country.
Five forty time for traffic and weather together. So happy
that I don't live in a nice neighborhood. Property taxes
aren't so bad on the ghetto house, huh.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Nothing to it all right, Mark from Springs pretty close
to the ghetto house right now, he's on the Hardy
Toll Road.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
I believe dude got uck.
Speaker 35 (29:37):
Having heard of the Greg one forty five, I picked
the Hardy Tow runs and understandably there's a lot more
people on Hardy Stover today.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
You picked the wrong freeway this morning.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Mark from Spring, let's put this on your briefcase here, Jeffrey,
the Walgreens truck found this wreck on the Hardy Toll
Road northbound right at the airport connector. And we've got
a lot of flashy lights. Let's call that two left lines.
It's outbound, not inbound. Inbound will get some rebernecking. Actually,
we're having a fairly easy morning.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
I think a lot of people a little hungover from
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Graham Parkways looking good. Terry from a golf ball all
the way over to forty five New Caney and around
the Mott Bellevue. Piece of cake here. I'm not even
loopy at the squeeze yet. And that's that's not normal
six ' ten north. That's westbound at forty five. It's
a little thick, but we're getting fined getting through just fine.
And if you're just getting up that weekend roadwork on
the south loop at Fannin is now out of the way.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Jeff from Tomball shared his opinion here, Terry.
Speaker 19 (30:33):
Last night Super Bowl was the worst half club show
in all life.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
You know they should have had the Florida State marching band.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
I'm the generator of Supercenter dot Com traffic Center then
something close to it during pregame.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
Oh Jimmy, let me throw this in real quick ahead
miss pregame.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
I just saw the prize for timeline at six fifty
five am.
Speaker 5 (30:53):
Yes, sir, that is who should have done the Super
Bowl halftime. Oh okay, nice to check that out.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
I'm not going to give the yes until we do
the timeline from our KTRH generator super Center twenty four
hour where the center terry is here. Not a good
day for a parade or anything outdoors, marching vans or
anything else out here because it's going to get well.
I guess it's not a big chance of rain today, right,
but they do increases that we goes on.
Speaker 18 (31:14):
Yes, today, not so much rain, just a twenty percent
chance of a shower. The big change for us today
is the cooler weather. But this is what we're supposed
to see in February, so we can handle this mid
touf er sixties today. Now that front that brought us
the cooler weather is going to be kind of meandering
back and forth, so we've got a better chance of rain,
(31:37):
eighty percent chance of showers and storms Tomorrow, ninety percent
chance of getting wet Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Thursday starts to dry out Friday.
Speaker 18 (31:45):
Dry Temperatures are going to be in the seventies Tomorrow
and Wednesday, but then getting cooler, like much cooler Thursday
in the fifties, but warming back up into the sixties Friday.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
JEP, but you're right now is still sixty at your

Speaker 5 (32:03):
What you need to know for the day ahead.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
This is Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New
South Windows Solutions.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Five fifty. Soar time here on Houston's Morning News. Right
coming up here in just a moment, Jessica Vaughn will
join US Director of Policy Studies at the Center for
Immigration Studies. One of the things we've discovered is that
taxpayers spent, well, we didn't spend. Politicians spent one billion
dollars of our Monday money facilitating the migrant pipeline through
(32:33):
various different religious charities in twenty twenty four. YEP, we
spent a lot of money on that, and most of
us didn't know that the money was even being spent
because it was going through a charity, so we'll talk
about that with Jessica Vond coming up next. First, we've
got traffic and weather together, starting with U Sky Mai,
jess and.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Gavaughan doesn't have a super Bowl hangover. It looks like
a bunch of people staying home this morning.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
Freeways. They're actually pretty nice.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
I do have a stall on two eighty eight Yellowstone norkbound,
No big whoop, they moved him over. And we have
that hardy toll road wreck outbound at the Airport Connector
look out. I'm Skymike from the Generator Supercenter, dot Com Traffic.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
Center from r KTRH Generator Supercenter, twenty four hour Weather
center mostly clnnie Slight chance for rain shower about twenty percent,
chance sixty eight for the high today, showers, thunderstorms mainly
in the afternoon. Tomorrow and then Wednesday, showers and thunderstorms
likely with the high temperature about seventy five. Current temperature
is sixty at your official severe weather station, News Radio
(33:29):
seven forty KTRH. Let's get you caught up on some
of our Monday morning top stories.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
Here's Cliff, Thank you, Jimmy.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
We're sponsored by Morrow mechanical and Obama era federal judge
issues a temporary restraining order to block the Trump administration
from sending three Venezuelan illegals to Guantanamo Bay. The NTSB
recovers all of the wreckage from the DC midair collision
two weeks ago, and the President said he won't deport
Prince Harry, saying online that quote he's got enough problems
(33:58):
with his wife. Get the latest news anytime at KTRH

Speaker 13 (34:08):
It makes my day easier.
Speaker 5 (34:09):
Remember the rule of three can make the day better.
On News Radio seven KTRH.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
So, if you want to spend money, you know, enhancing
the lives of illegal immigrants or providing ways for them
to get into the country, and you want somebody else
to do the work for you, and you want it
to go pretty much unnoticed much of the time because
it's going through a charity and not through a government agency.
What better way to do it than the funneled billions,
(34:37):
literally billions of dollars to charities, some of them religious charities,
who don't go under a tremendous amount of scrutiny, and
probably most people don't even realize that that's what's going on.
Just Givon joins, US director of Policy Studies at the
Center for Immigration Studies. Any idea, Jessica, how many charities
are involved in this type of work?
Speaker 13 (34:59):
Good morning. Well, there are about five or six main
religiously affiliated in name only charities, And I really don't
like to use the term charity because they're really government contractors.
So these big five or six, the Catholics, Lutherans, the Quakers,
(35:22):
the Methodists, and the Episcopals, they are the primary contractors
to the federal government to set up programs that help
migrants when they first arrive and then also transport them
to their destination in the United States and then give
them services after they settle there. And they have their
(35:43):
own network of local subcontractors affiliated with those churches who
receive this money again to provide these services for the migrants.
But it is it is a contract and they only
provide those services is that they are paid with taxpayer
funds to give whether it's you know, transportation, shelters, daycare,
(36:11):
uh all, you know, legal assistance, all kinds of things
that they offer to these newly arrived illegal migrants. It's
a huge network, and we're talking billions of dollars.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Do they realize that the people that are helping are
here illegally. They understand that right.
Speaker 13 (36:27):
Up front, yes, and and they they use the language
of the Gospel and the scripture to justify this assistance
by saying, you know, we're obligated as Christians to to
welcome the stranger, and you know, you know, help the
(36:48):
needy and so on. But this is, you know, this
is a tough issue because first of all, they've come
in illegally, and secondly, they are enticed to come here
legally by the knowledge that they are going to get
these services once they arrive, right and they put themselves
in the hands of criminal smugglers and traffickers to break
(37:09):
our laws to come here. And also these are resources
that could be well used for medi Americans and legal
immigrants and refugees for example. So it's it's really, you know,
a problematic, I think, to entice people to come here
in this way. And you know, again this is a
(37:32):
business deal that's being made in the name of a faith.
But truly, these these entities, they most of them get
almost one hundred percent of their funding from the federal government,
which means US taxpayers well.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
And as a registered religious charity, they're also not paying
any taxes are they on the income that they're making
for the government.
Speaker 13 (37:53):
That is right. And they also don't get much inspection
or you know, many audits of how they're spending the money,
so it really is not a very transparent operation, and
so you know, it's hard to know how much of
it's going to salaries as opposed to actual services, and
(38:18):
I think we need to remember that, you know, I
applaud the impulse to help people around the world who
are facing challenges in their own countries, but we can
help a lot more people by directing this money overseas
to where the people are so they can stay in
their homes and not have to go through their process
(38:38):
traumatic and illegal process to.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Come here right and brisk the chances of deportation. They should,
they should send their missionaries overseas and work with the
people in the countries of their origin exactly, and I'm
sure they do to a certain extent, but this is
sort of an offshoot of that, I guess. Jessica vall
and always a pleasure, Thank you. Director Policy Studies and
the set of for Immigrant and Studies. That's Jessica Vaughn.

chicken wings aren't? Details in the minutes ahead. You're in
Houston's Morning News. First first, I think they came before

Here's Close Saunders.
Speaker 6 (40:35):
Six Z two on KTRHR top story. While President Donald
Trump got a loud ovation from the crowd at the
super Bowl in New Orleans, Taylor Swift got a very
different reception.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
Yes those are booze.
Speaker 6 (40:52):
A lip reader also told the Daily Meal that Swift
reacted by turning to our friend and saying, quote, what's
going on. The President also met with the families of
the fourteen victims from the terrorist attack on New Year's Day,
and there was this from Air Force one.
Speaker 29 (41:07):
Air Force one is currently in international waters the first
time in history lying.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
Over the regently renamed of America.
Speaker 6 (41:14):
In fact, Trump signed a declaration declaring yesterday Gulf of
America Day six 'oh three, and Obama appointed federal judge
blocks DOZE from accessing certain government systems, and that's not
sitting well with the President.
Speaker 7 (41:28):
I disagree with it one hundred percent. I think it's crazy.
And we have to solve the efficiency problem. We have
to solve the fraud, waste abuse, all the things that
have gone in under the government.
Speaker 6 (41:39):
Trump on Fox yesterday, the left has been in attack
mode when it comes to Elon Musk and Doge houseovers
he had Committee chair James Comer says it's because what
they've done for decades has finally been exposed.
Speaker 25 (41:51):
The Democrats are complaining about Elon Musk being an unelected bureaucrat.
Elon Musk is trench parent. He tweets multiple times an
hour about what he's thinking, about what he's doing, what
he's discovery.
Speaker 6 (42:05):
And claiming that there's a billion dollars of public frauds,
public funds fraud committed every week.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
It's now six to zero four.
Speaker 6 (42:13):
This just in A man shot and killed in an
a Leaf apartment complex parking lot HPD is currently looking
for the gunman and more crime. Over the weekend, a
lamar Cid middle school teacher is shot and killed inside
her home.
Speaker 5 (42:27):
Her husband was arrested.
Speaker 6 (42:29):
Aris County sheriffs are investigating a deadly shooting at an
a Taska seta home the results of a family disturbance elsewhere.
Thousands of illegal aliens have been arrested into three weeks
since Donald Trump returned to the White House, but borders
are Tom Homan says the number should be higher and
blames sanctuary cities.
Speaker 5 (42:48):
I'm not satisfied yet. We got to have more criminal arrests,
and the sanctuary cities are showing us down. But we're
going to keep coming. We're going to keep coming, and
they're not gonna stop us.
Speaker 6 (42:57):
Meantime, DPS posted to x over the weekend that on Saturday,
we had a grand total of three hundred and thirty
one illegal alien border crossings. The resistance that Homan is
angry about is putting law enforcement at risk leaking critical
information about ICE operations, and it could land those who
were doing it in jail.
Speaker 12 (43:18):
If you are impeding the federal government barbering illegal aliens
and protecting them or leaking information, You're going to get arrested,
and I think that's what you're going to see coming
down the pipeline sooner rather later.
Speaker 6 (43:29):
Rice a retired ICE special agent Victoropoulos says this puts
law enforcement officers in danger.
Speaker 5 (43:35):
It's not just.
Speaker 6 (43:36):
Arrests and deportations. Trump wants to investigate the funding for
the NGOs, the non governmental organizations that are facilitating illegal immigration, and.
Speaker 27 (43:46):
Jessica Vaughn with the Center for Immigrations that he says,
it's a good thing.
Speaker 13 (43:51):
These organizations described themselves as charities, but in reality they
are government contractors.
Speaker 30 (43:57):
That way bandits.
Speaker 27 (43:59):
Last year under by the US cave more than a
two point seven billion on immigrant assistance programs, and.
Speaker 13 (44:06):
The Trump administration is trying to put them out of business,
which is a good thing for taxpayers, and it's a
good thing for border.

Six h six California's loss is Texas games more Californians
have moved here from any other state over the past
fifteen years, but that doesn't mean Texas will turn blue.
Speaker 15 (44:33):
What's happening with this great sorting out across the nation,
and it's not just Texas, it's Florida as well. Is
you're finding that blue states tend to become bluer and
red states redder as people kind of decide, you know,
I've had enough of this. I want to go to
a place that more reflects my values.
Speaker 6 (44:47):
And chuck to four with The Texas Public Policy Foundation
says surveys have shown that transplants are usually more conservative
than Native Texans, and in the battle to eliminate DEI,
CNN is claiming that eliminating it in the workplace, or
rather having it in the workplace, makes it more inclusive
(45:08):
and supportive. Large corporations aren't listening to them though, and
are putting an end to their DEI practices.
Speaker 16 (45:14):
Is amazing, And all the companies that have said no,
I have the companies you would not expect, like Target,
who's resisted a lot of pressure from people for not
only this issue, but other of the issues.
Speaker 17 (45:24):
Vice president of the American Society for the Defense of
Tradition Family Property, John Horvat says that's the Trump effect.
Speaker 16 (45:30):
President's Trump's Sexact Ford is just a last blow. It
wasn't the cause of it, but it's certainly India much

I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's news, weather and traffic station KTRH.
Speaker 37 (46:00):
Under the orders I signed today, even here for the
very latest, all of this will change starting today.
Speaker 3 (46:07):
What Youth Radio seven kt RH six eight is our
time here in Houston's morning news. Yeah, it's it's interesting
to watch that. I actually got asked, not once, but
several times over the weekend. I don't know why people
always ask me. It's like they expect me to know
the answers to everything, at least in my family they do.
(46:29):
So my niece is going, hey, as Uncle Jimmy, why
eggs are so expensive but chicken wings aren't, Cause you know,
if it's the bird flu, then you would think that
you know, all chickens get the bird flu, right, So
why why are eggs so expensive and wings aren't? And
(46:49):
I thought my mind, well, I could throw a dart
at the dartboard on this, but I might as well
do some research. So I because, on one hand, I
can see where that doesn't seem to make a lot
of sense until you realize that egg laying hens are
in their own, very confined spots where something like the
(47:12):
bird flu can spread rather easily. While chickens that are
being raised and they're generally broilers they're being raised for
chicken wings live in separate facilities and there's more space
between them and the other birds. So the bird flu
is of concern for all chickens. But because of the
(47:34):
nature of egg laying hens and how they're kept, it
spreads more quickly and more dangerously to them than it
does the other So we still have a plentiful, plentiful
supply right now any way of chicken wings, so they
didn't price wise didn't go through the roof. Eggs is
a different story, so much so the see waffle house
(47:54):
has put a fifty cent surcharge per egg. So you
go to a waffle house now and you order breakfast,
and they charge you an additional fifty cents per egg
when you order your breakfast, depending about how many eggs
are used to make whatever dish it is that you're
you're eating. So if you're eating a three a gomblet,
that's gonna be an extra dollar fifty cents six '
(48:15):
ten times for traffic and weather together, it's so good.
I love talking about food, don't you ski on?
Speaker 4 (48:21):
I love some waffle House. I'm gonna get to waffle

Speaker 18 (49:30):
You know, col front moved through yesterday, so so much
cooler weather is back. But I have to tell you
this is what we expect in February. We do have
a twenty percent chance of a shower. Most of us
are going to get through the day just cloudy and dry, cooler,
mid to upper sixties. Front's hanging around, so it's going
to bring us some rain tomorrow and Wednesday. Eighty percent
(49:51):
chance of getting wet tomorrow, ninety percent chance of showers,
some thunder Wednesday, it is warmer in the seventies, only
a slight chance of a shower. Thursday, a little chili Thursday,
mid upper fifties. Friday warms up some into the load
to mid sixties, and Fridays dry.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
Temperature right now still sixty at your official severe weather station,
News Radio seven forty KTRH. Hey, what did you think
of the Super Bowl? I'm gonna ask a question today.
Of that you can go to the iHeart radio app KTRH.
Put us on your preset. You get thirty seconds on
the microphone. Cook that microphone button, give me your first
name where you're calling from. What did you like about
(50:31):
the Super Bowl? What did you hate about the Super Bowl?
Speaker 7 (50:34):
No?
Speaker 3 (50:34):
Did you like some of the ads? Like Seal as
a Seal, which is actually pretty good? How about how
about the one with Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal for
Hellman's Mayonnaise where she's faking the orgasm over mayonnaise. Really,
I don't know that one's had a creep factor she did?
Speaker 5 (50:57):
Did? This is a little creepy? I'm sorry, Bud.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
You like whatever you liked and whatever you didn't like,
like Trump being cheered and Taylor Swift being booed, the
game itself, the halftime show, whatever you liked or didn't like. Again,
you go to the iHeart radio app KTRH, hit the
microphone button. You got thirty seconds to respond, right down
traffic and whether together.
Speaker 5 (51:18):
You'll go on my Facebook page and say, well, you
just don't this guy. You don't like rap because you're
an old man.
Speaker 3 (51:23):
No, I hated it when I was a teenager, so
I didn't even pay much attention, to be honest with it.
I find it all too hard to follow at this point.
I don't want to think during the super Bowl halftime show.
I just want to spring back.
Speaker 5 (51:35):
Up with people.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
Let's go to the north side here. We've cleared that
wreck on the North Freeway. That's some flashbacks southbound at
Parker the wreck is gone. We still have a lot
of breaks now West Mound Houston inbound. You lose twenty
minutes on the North Freeway. Do the hardy instead. The
outbound wreck of the Connector's gone. Never messed you up
on the inbound. And I've got Cindy from Dayton on ninety.
Speaker 38 (51:57):
Ninety from Dayton ninety westbounds, muth Balen on it in
West moves salen up until you get to its wonderful
Wacos three cooking down there.
Speaker 4 (52:05):
Oh well said extra points for urbid Cindy and a

Speaker 3 (53:23):
All Right, wasn't it interesting? How here's something about the
Super Bowl that I observed. Anyway, it felt like it
felt like we turned the clock back about eight years
or more. It felt like a more in some ways,
it felt like a more traditional super Bowl. We had
the Super Bowl interview with President Trump. Even though it's
(53:45):
not traditional for the president to go to the game,
the President was at the game. It's just it was
an amazing thing to see all those reactions to him
being there. You all all the loves and cheers for him,
and the booze for for people like Taylor Swift, who
obviously endorsed his opponent. And she couldn't figure out whether
(54:07):
she's not used to this, She could not figure out
why they were booing her, Like, what what's wrong with
these people?
Speaker 5 (54:15):
You know?
Speaker 3 (54:16):
But Trump gave the traditional interview. Pulled a couple of
clips for you from that. Here is President Trump. He
did the interview ahead of time with Brett Baer on Fox,
who of course was carrying the game.
Speaker 5 (54:29):
Here he is.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
Talking about that judge on Saturday, and is doge ruling
keeping Elon Musk away from the US Treasury.
Speaker 39 (54:38):
Nineteen States attorneys general filed a lawsuit and early Saturday,
a judge agreed with them to restrict Elon Musk and
his government Efficiency team Doze from accessing Treasury Department payment
and data systems. They said there was a risk of
irreparable harm. What do you make of that? And does
that slow you down on what you want to know?
Speaker 7 (54:57):
I disagree with it one hundred percent. I think it's crazy.
We have to solve the efficiency problem. We have to
solve the fraud, waste abuse, all the things that have
gone into the government. You take a look at the USAID,
the kind of fraud in there that witness money is going, well,
we're talking about hundreds of millions of dollars of money
that's going to places where it shouldn't be going. Where
(55:18):
if I read a list, you'd say this is ridiculous.
And you've read the same lists, and there are many
that you haven't even seen.
Speaker 28 (55:24):
It's crazy. It's a big scam.
Speaker 7 (55:25):
Now there's some good money, and we can do that
through any one of a number. I think I'd rather
give it to Marco Rubio over at the State Department.
Let him take care of the few good ones. So
I don't know if it's kickbacks, So what's going on?
But the people look, I ran on this, and the
people want me to find it. And I've had a
great help with Elon Musk, who's been terrific.
Speaker 5 (55:47):
Tomline, you say you trust him.
Speaker 28 (55:50):
Trust Elon.
Speaker 5 (55:51):
Oh, he's not gaining anything. In fact, I wonder how
he can devote the time to it.
Speaker 28 (55:54):
He's so into it.
Speaker 5 (55:56):
But I told him do that.
Speaker 7 (55:57):
Then I'm going to tell him very soon, maybe in
twenty four hours, to go check the Department of Education.
He's going to find the same thing. Then I'm going
to go go to the military. Let's check the military.
We're going to find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars
of fraud and abuse.
Speaker 5 (56:13):
But I campaigned on this.
Speaker 3 (56:14):

Now, just kidd it off, big. That thing was that
the bottom is like very distracting. Anyway, here's sky, mate.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
I'm gonna get Let's go to the North six. There's
enough cramp on the North Loop too. Westbound right at
the squeeze, we are starting to get loopy. You lose
a couple of minutes trying to get over from the
Hardy Entrance east text, Why are you so crammed up
right around Lee Road southbound? That sure smells like a
stall to me in front of the cemeteries at Lauter.
Speaker 5 (58:16):
We'll check that at the six forty. Also, the usual breaks.
Speaker 4 (58:19):

Hysterics all weekend after President Trump revoked the security clearance
of former President Joe Biden. But they said nothing four
years ago when Biden did it to Trump?
Speaker 16 (59:19):
Why not because of his erratic behavior unrelated to the
insurrection that.
Speaker 6 (59:27):
Was Biden in twenty twenty one on CBS. Trump also
yanked the clearance for former Secretary of State Anthony Blincoln.
New York Attorney General Letitia James and the DA from Manhattan,
Alvin Bragg. Trump made history last night becoming the first
sitting president to ever attend to Super Bowl. He got
a standing ovation from the crowd at the Superdome. That
(59:50):
same crowd boot Taylor Swift out.
Speaker 5 (59:53):
Of the building.
Speaker 6 (59:54):
Remember, Trump won Louisiana in November by more than twenty points.
The uproar in and Washington continues as Trump continues to
try and drain the swamp. Rick Banning with Americans for
a Limited Government says it's still going to take longer
than just three weeks.
Speaker 28 (01:00:10):
The administration is really working hard to drain the swamp.
The Doze effort, the Department of Government Efficiency is really
geared to try to make certain that the money that
is spent makes sense A, but B is not wasteful.
Speaker 6 (01:00:24):
Trump is also fighting activist judges over doge and Obama
era federal judge put up a roadblock this weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
We'll have that at seven o'clock. Now.
Speaker 6 (01:00:34):
Last week we told you that taxpayer money was being
spent on national mainstream media outlets like Politico, But it's
apparently happening in Texas as well. Your money going to
places like the Houston Chronicle.
Speaker 11 (01:00:47):
This raises the question of whether these outlets can remain objective.
Speaker 19 (01:00:51):
I don't like the appearance of impropriet That's where you
have to ask some of these news publications why they
felt it was important to take this cash.
Speaker 11 (01:01:00):
Michael Quinn Sullivan with the Texas Scorecard says taxpayers should
know why their money was spent this way.
Speaker 19 (01:01:04):
State agencies paid more than two hundred and fifty three
thousand dollars to Politico. Why are state agencies giving money
to Politico?
Speaker 11 (01:01:13):

but they did not respond to a request for comment.

may actually be accelerating the economy.

Americans are significantly crunched by inflation, but still spending like crazy.
Retail sales jumps significantly during the twenty twenty four holiday
season compared to twenty twenty three.
Speaker 32 (01:02:36):
I feel like we're starting to get into a more
normal equilibrium, but it's also worth noting that everybody's experience
is different. Sadly, there's no doubt that many are struggling,
especially people with lower incomes.
Speaker 31 (01:02:48):
They've been hit harder by inflation.
Speaker 32 (01:02:50):
There's less money to go around bank rates.
Speaker 6 (01:02:52):
Ted Rossman, remember you spent more but actually got less
because of inflation, and thanks to Biden, inflation more young
people and behind on mortgage payments. It turns out that
property taxes could be a factor.
Speaker 33 (01:03:05):
And some, obviously people wrap it into their monthly payment,
but a lot of other people wait, but then things
don't go well, and then they can't pay it and
they can lose their house just for the back taxes.
Speaker 5 (01:03:15):

Speaker 6 (01:03:17):
There By the way, on Friday, State Senator Paul Bettencourt
found legislation for more property tax relief. Overnight trading is

up from forty three percent ten years ago.
Speaker 34 (01:03:43):
The maximum for this year, it's not a percentage, it's
a dollar amount. The maximum for this year that you
can differ from your salary under your four oh one
K is twenty three thousand and five hundred.
Speaker 6 (01:03:56):
That is kgrh Moneyman pat Chin, who says those between
fifty and sixty can contribute up to thirty one thousand
dollars in change. Sixty to sixty three year olds can
put in a maximum of thirty four thousand, seven hundred
and fifty dollars six thirty seven now on KTR eight,

Speaker 41 (01:04:14):
You know, it's been a long journey. It's been a
journey of ups and downs and highs and lows, and
I've always stayed true to it in the end and
having his vision of just being the best.
Speaker 5 (01:04:26):

Now back to Jimmy Barrett and the Houston Morning News team,
Houston's Morning News.
Speaker 5 (01:05:00):
Score the game.
Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
Just look at the bottom of the screen, right except
except when the Super Bowl got going. They're called what
are they call these score bugs or something like that. Anyway,
it's the graphic that goes up at the bottom of
the screen that usually involves both teams as far as
their colors and maybe their logos, and you know, whatever
(01:05:24):
the score is, what quarter it is, you know how
much time has left all that type of stuff that
goes down at the bottom and the Super Bowl, I guess,
is a good excuse if you're somebody like Fox, to
go ahead and change that, especially if you're looking to
make a change for the for the future. The thing
that struck me about it was what did Elizabeth call?
She called boy, that's really old school, in my old school.
(01:05:47):
I think she just met. It was really big. It
was big, like like it It's like the kind of
graphic I would expect to see on a screen for
somebody who's visually impaired, which many ways I am. I've
got my eyesight's not so great, but I'm going, wow,
that is big. It's distracting. He just you know, I'm
(01:06:10):
used to something much more subtle. That was I thought,
a little bit in your face. But then again, you know,
like everything else in life, you know, the older you get,
the more you don't particularly care for change. So if
I'm just curious, were you bothered by that by that
by the graphic change at the bottom of the screen
during the game, I got an email from a guy
by the name of Daniel said, Jimmy, my whole reason
(01:06:31):
for watching the Super Bowl this year was to see
the Elon Musk doze ads that were rumored to air.
I meande to halftime and never saw doj ad, And
then I figured out that I'd just been duped into
giving the super Bowl ratings. What did you like about
the Super Bowl? What didn't you like about the Super Bowl?
Love to get your responses, go to the iHeartRadio app,
(01:06:52):
click on the microphone. You get thirty seconds. Give me
a first name where you're calling from. What you liked
what you didn't like about the super Bowl? Super Bowl
fifty nine night. Maybe it was the result you did like?
Who knows? Six forty time for traffic and weather together, Yes, Mike,
if we.
Speaker 4 (01:07:06):
Had the artist that you're giving away for the prize
at timeline at six fifty five, the artists, it would
have been a lot better.
Speaker 5 (01:07:14):
All right, let's hit north side.
Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
Here we got more Nord Freeway problem, Jimmy, this is
southbound Little York. It's another wreck right in the backup
of that skunch we already had from the earlier wreck
at Parker, So that's a lot of breaks from West Road,
so the north Freeway that's about a twenty minute drag.
On the southbound. The East Texas is fairly cool, but
the Hardy Toll Road is much cooler, so take the
(01:07:38):
Hardy instead. North westbound at forty five, we're loopy at
the squeeze and also Katie Freeway on the inbound you
hit some brakes around right around the b someone bridge. Outbound,
of course, we have that roadwork at forty five and
the text dot wall of death. I'm skymighte get your
Generator Supercenter dot com traffic center.
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
From r ETRH Generator Supercenter twenty four hour weather Center.
Terry Smith drops she's got the forecast for the work
week and that's going to be a little bit rainy
and a little bit cooler this week.
Speaker 18 (01:08:05):
Yeah, I mean, we're kind of all over the place.
Lots of changes in our weather pattern starting with today.
The cold fronts move through and the colder air moving in,
so temperatures are not going to change a lot over
the course of the day. We're cloudy with a twenty
percent chance of a shower.
Speaker 5 (01:08:20):
That's it.
Speaker 18 (01:08:21):
But we'll see temperatures getting no warmer than the mid
to upper sixties this afternoon, Tomorrow and Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (01:08:29):
Better chance of rain both days.
Speaker 18 (01:08:30):
Eighteen percent chance of a shower, maybe a rumble of
thunder Tomorrow, ninety percent chance of rain Wednesday. It is
warmer in the seventies, and then that colfront moves through
and watch those temperatures plummet Thursday. Twenty percent chance of
rain Thursday, but highs only mid upper fifties. Friday, we
start to recover. It's a little dry and slightly warmer,
(01:08:53):
low to mid sixties Friday.
Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Temperature right now is still sixty at your official severe
weather station, News Radio seven four KTRH. So I've been
asking this morning about the Super Bowl. What'd you think
the Super Bowl last night? What did you like? What
didn't you like? So happy with it's the halftime show,
the commercials, the game itself. What you do as you
go to the iHeartRadio app KTRH put us on the
(01:09:15):
preset so you can get there quickly. You've got thirty
seconds once you have the microphone to baby, just give
us your first name where you're calling from him? What
you thought about the Super Bowl?
Speaker 36 (01:09:24):
Hey, Jimmy Rick from the East Side, you're telling me
there was a Super Bowl yesterday.
Speaker 38 (01:09:29):
Hey, that's the first I heard of it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:33):
Have a great morning. I liked the Kringles ones with
the mustache and the eyebrows. Pat from Waller. Yeah, the
game sucked. I'm not a fan of the game. But
at least now we don't have to hear the crazy.
Speaker 41 (01:09:49):
Idiot you Spans prepare and say, oh, the Chiefs dynasty.
Speaker 5 (01:09:54):
No, there is no dynasty.
Speaker 18 (01:09:57):
It will never be a dynasty.
Speaker 5 (01:09:58):
Like to pass and stop comparing Kermit to Brady the goat.
Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
Patriots fans hanging on to the past. I like the
Eugene Let me add too, for Pringles, that was pretty
good with the with the flying eyebrows. Six to fifty
times for traffic and whether it together? What's that skuym
get personal? Of course, flying eyebrows, that's what it was.
That's what makes it fun.
Speaker 4 (01:10:23):
That's why Joe from Conrod says, forty five north to
the Hardytil Road eighty five miles an hour. All right,
that's banana sticker Joe, and I'll see you in traffic court. Southbound.
We've got the two problems here. We had a wreck
at Parker, which is southbound it's clear a secondary accident
that I mentioned David from the north side is at
(01:10:44):
Little York and so that's still there. And that's one
we're still packed up from West Road. If you're a
big shot, jump on that hardy toll road. Commoners do
the east text wait till you hear this price coming
up SKYMIKEE on a Generator Supercenter dot Com traffic centery
before you go. Any problems on the North Freeway with
the pavement this morning, the all kinds the problems on Friday,
the asphalt was coming up in damaging cars. And where
what stretch up up near Graham Parkway that section where
(01:11:10):
they paved over the concrete with asphalts starting to come up.
I guess let's sume that for seven o'clock, all right,
they were supposed to fix it. Over the weekend, we'll
see firm mark KTRH Generator Supercenter twenty four hour weather center.

so much so that our television partner, KPRC too sent
Mario Diaz out there to talk to some motorists and
try to figure out what the heck was going on.
Speaker 11 (01:12:33):
King, king, king thing thing sounds you do not want

Speaker 5 (01:12:38):
Sabrina Kilgore knows the sounds too. Well, it's a new ride, Yes, sir,
it's very nice. Thank you. What happened here?
Speaker 10 (01:12:46):
I was driving down the toll road and a rock
hit my windshield and it immediately.
Speaker 19 (01:12:50):
Went like that.
Speaker 42 (01:12:51):
Kill Gore says it happened on northbound two forty nine
where it crosses the Grand Parkway.
Speaker 5 (01:12:56):
And this was more than just one rock. It was
like driving through a meat year shower.
Speaker 42 (01:13:00):
But these rocks were not falling off another vehicle. Kil

Seems like it transitions from concrete to asphalt, and asphalt

with the Trump administration.

Speaker 10 (01:20:57):
We have continuous people that are going home to their

More than three quarters of a million Californians have moved

Speaker 3 (01:24:23):
Well, this will probably lead to a few more penny
hoarders out there. Seven to eight is our time here
on Houston's Morning News. President Trump, you know we talked
about wives it. I think around this time last week
we talked about how Elon Musk is a par doge
wants the Treasury to stop producing the penny because it
costs two and a half cents per penny to make
the penny versus what is worth two and a half
(01:24:45):
cents to brew something worth one cent. So it doesn't
make a whole lot of sense not to mention the
fact that, generally speaking, people don't seem to care much
for pennies. I mean, where do all your pennies end
up in a jar? Somewhere? Probably? Right, I know that's warhome.
Hen are then again, so are my quarters, my dimes,
and my nickels and anything else. I just I don't
(01:25:08):
care much for change. When I get changed, I stick
it in a jar and I don't carry it around
with me. And I don't think I'm that unusual anymore.
But here's what President Trump said, for far too long
in the United States is minted pennies, which liberally cost
us more than two cents. This is so wasteful. I'm
instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing
(01:25:28):
new pennies. Let's rip the waist out of our great
nation's budget, even if it's a penny at a time.
So it's got I assume the new Treasury Secretary, Scott Benson,
will go along with that. I mean, it's not like
they're not taking de penning out of circulation. It's not
like it's no longer going to be legal tender.
Speaker 5 (01:25:47):
It is.
Speaker 3 (01:25:48):
They're just not going to make any more of them.
I wonder how many millions or even maybe hundreds of
millions of pennies there are out there that if we
all emptied our coin jars, we'd be right back in circulation.
We never need to produce another penny anyway. Seven to ten,

of dollars have been wasted in taxpayer dollars funding eight
million just for political funding political Well, turns out that's
federal dollars, But it turns out the state of Texas
(01:29:34):
has been funding Politico as well, along with the Houston

How much money are we talking about? How's that happening

The mainstream media's games continued complaining about Trump revoking Joe
Biden's security clearance, But where were they in twenty twenty

Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
Yeah, he don't like paying taxes seven twenty two is
at a time here's on Houston's Morning News.
Speaker 5 (01:31:36):
None of us.
Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
I don't think like paying taxes when we know sometimes
how our taxpayer dollars are being spent. And as I said,
we had the federal story and we didn't like that
very much. All that money going to liberal publications, you know,
eight million dollars for Politico among many others at the
federal level. Well, it turns out that here in Texas,
the state is doing the same thing us to talk
about is Michael Quinn Sullivan, publisher Texas Scorecard. It's a
(01:32:01):
great story you folks turned out, and I think there's
probably a lot of shock people. I know I have shocked.
Michael's the same thing to a lesser degrees happening at
the state level. The story I saw didn't name any
state agencies other than the comptroller's website, which revealed, you know,
some of this information three hundred and forty two thousand
(01:32:21):
to the Texas Tribune, for example, as a George Soros
finance publication, one hundred and seventy three thousand to the
Austin based Quorum Report. Dallas Morning News got four hundred
and twenty eight thousand, Houston Chronicle got one hundred thousand dollars.
You know, all liberal publications. What state agencies are participating
in passing this money along to these liberal media outlets,
(01:32:44):
well just about all of them.
Speaker 36 (01:32:48):
And these run the gambit from the massive number of
expenditures coming from the Texas House. I think every member
of the Texas House paying for their Houston Chroninle Chronicle,
assuming the Dallas Wanting News, Houston Chronicle, or it might
be subscription with your money.
Speaker 5 (01:33:05):
Every member of.
Speaker 36 (01:33:07):
The Senate multiple payments we don't know for what reason,
from the Texas Commission on Environmental Resources, and and on
and on and on, every agency of the state spending money.
Speaker 19 (01:33:22):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:33:22):
Some of these look like subscriptions.
Speaker 36 (01:33:25):
Some of them aren't labeled what they are, so we
don't actually know what these expenditures are.
Speaker 5 (01:33:30):
But it should make all.
Speaker 36 (01:33:31):
Of us say, no, well, well why are we Let's
just assume you assume from what the half million dollars
being paid out is only for subscriptions. Well, why are
the taxpayers of Texas footing the bill for state agent
for state agency employees to read the Houston.
Speaker 5 (01:33:51):
Chronicle every morning?
Speaker 13 (01:33:53):
Well?
Speaker 5 (01:33:53):
Why is that our job?
Speaker 38 (01:33:54):
Now?
Speaker 36 (01:33:54):
My employer doesn't pay me to read other people's uh
news publications?
Speaker 3 (01:34:00):
What the world should the should the citizens of Texas
be paying for that? Yeah, neither does mine, And I'm
in I'm in the news business too, in the business
exactly right. But we're expected to do our own research
and to pay for it all ourselves. So I guess
it's just it's under the best of circumstances, it's a
perk that the state legislatures getting that maybe they should
not get number one. And it's the worst. And this
(01:34:21):
is the part that I think really needs investigation. Maybe
there's something else going on here. Well, and look, and
these are only state numbers. These are only numbers out
of the state coffers. We have not yet started digging
into where the real cash cow is is coming from.
Speaker 19 (01:34:37):
UH.
Speaker 36 (01:34:37):
City and county governments paying thousands upon thousands of dollars
UH for at each instance, for what's known as as
legal notices. You know, when you look back into the
deep dark recesses of the newspaper, there's a little small
fine print notices from your from your local government.
Speaker 5 (01:34:57):
Uh.
Speaker 36 (01:34:57):
The newspapers actually pay, are pay aid big box to
run those notices, notices that no one pays attention to.
There are a relic of a bygone era exactly today
with Houston, the City of Houston and Harris County and
Dallas and Abilene and everyone having their own websites and
email lists and x accounts and Facebook accounts. Why are
(01:35:20):
we paying these massive dollars out of our local coffers
to go into the local newspaper. Well, look, it's it's
what drives these newspapers to cover favorably the governing institutions.
Speaker 44 (01:35:33):
It's a payoff. It's propaganda. Let's call it what it is,

Our top story.
Speaker 6 (01:38:20):
The left has been throwing a hissy fit because President
Trump revoked Joe Biden's security clearance, but four years ago,
Biden did the same thing to Trump.
Speaker 26 (01:38:31):
Let me ask you then, something that you do have
oversight of as president? Should former President Trump still receive
intelligence briefings?
Speaker 28 (01:38:40):
I think not.
Speaker 5 (01:38:42):
That was Biden talking to CBS.
Speaker 6 (01:38:44):
Trump also revoked clearance for former Secretary of State Anthony Blincoln,
New York State Attorney General Letitia James in Manhattan da
Alvin Bragg, and he became the first sitting president in
history to attend a Super Bowl. You wound up getting
a standing ovation from the crew out of New Orleans.
As for Taylor Swift, quite the opposite reaction. She was
(01:39:05):
booed out of the building. The president is draining the swamp,
but it's only been three weeks and there's a lot
more work that needs to be.
Speaker 27 (01:39:12):
Done, and it's all due to decades of DC decline.
Speaker 28 (01:39:17):
It's going to be a hard test.
Speaker 30 (01:39:18):
This is just four years.
Speaker 28 (01:39:19):
It's forty years of just a ever growing administrative state
which is now being questioned really for the first time
at its fundamental core.
Speaker 27 (01:39:28):
That's Rick Manning, President of Americans for a limited government.
Speaker 28 (01:39:32):
The fact the matter is, it can be done. What
we're seeing right now is the American public for the
first time is really leaning into the idea of cutting
the side of this cup of government.
Speaker 27 (01:39:40):
And learning more about it every single day. Jeff Biggs,

Speaker 6 (01:39:46):
And this flew under the radar over Super Bowl weekend,
the Boy Scouts of America officially changing its name to
Scouting America. Their reason to meet the quote evolving needs
of young people, real reason they went woke. We all
knew that national liberal media out let's were getting taxpayer money,
and now, according to Texas Scorecard and the State Controller's website,
(01:40:11):
left wing media outlets in Texas like the Houston Chronicle
are getting hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars from different
state agencies.
Speaker 21 (01:40:19):
I think it's unfortunate that individuals who want to position
themselves as being independent when they're reporting the news or
nonetheless tanning their handout taking cash from those that they're
reporting on.
Speaker 6 (01:40:30):
Michael Quinn Sullivan with Texas Scorecard says Texans should want
to know why their money was spent like this. We
reached out to the Controller's office, they did not comment.

Right Bart's John Carney says the sector has gone from

helping him get things on track.
Speaker 29 (01:40:57):
They fear what Trump will do. They're telling things like
the Consumer Sentiment Survey that now is a good time
to make major purchases because of their fear of what
will happen in the future.
Speaker 30 (01:41:08):
So ironically, we may get a bit of a boost

stressed out about money, but they're still spending like crazy.
Retail sales during this past holiday season grew a surprisingly
high four percent compared to twenty twenty three numbers.
Speaker 31 (01:41:29):
In a lot of respects, the economy has been better
than people have given it credit for unemployment rates down

outpacing inflation for a couple of years.

is are we heading towards another two thousand and eight

Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
Maybe maybe not.
Speaker 33 (01:42:13):
For instance, you could have a real state investor come
in and just take over your payment so you're behind
in six months, Can you have an investor come over
and take over those payments and then be able to
help you get into a rental.
Speaker 6 (01:42:25):
Real estate expert Jennifer Hammond says that unlike two thousand

we've got options to avoid a major crisis. Stock futures
this morning are up across the board despite the reports
that the President will place a twenty five percent tariff
on all aluminum and steel imports. He's also directing the
Treasury Department to stop making new pennies. And here's why
(01:42:48):
it costs two cents to make a single penny. According
to the Labor Department, fifty percent of private sector workers
are now participating in company sponsored four oh one k's.
Speaker 34 (01:43:00):
Reasons for that one is auto enrollment. That's where companies
automatically sign you up. If you don't want to participate,
then you have to opt out. Reason number two, the
cost of a company pays to have a four oh
one K has come way down.

KTRH thirty eight is time here in Houston's going to
New so super Bowl fifty nine last night. There were
some really good moments and some head scratching moments, as
there always is. Some of the commercials were really good,
some of them were whatever. I thought that some of
them were funnier than I was expecting because we'd been
(01:44:22):
told that they were going to be very funny this year.
But I thought that a couple of them were, you know,
we're pretty funny. Some of them were actually kind of moving.
Not that I paid super attention to commercials. I never do,
but I certainly paid more attention to a Super Bowl
commercial than I would a regular television commercial.
Speaker 5 (01:44:40):
You know what was really nice.
Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
I don't think I saw a single ad for a
pharmaceutical product. Wow, what a nice break that was. See
actual pringles and actual products like that. My favorite commercial
probably was the Carl's Junior one, and I'll share some
audio from that one coming up here before the end
(01:45:02):
of the show, so you can see why it was
my favorite. But been asking you all morning to talk
back to us by going to the iHeartRadio app. KTRH
put that on the preset and so you can get
to us quickly, KTRH. In the preset. When you get there,
there's a microphone you can click on. It gives you
thirty seconds. And i'd love your first name, where you're
calling from, and what you like or didn't like about
(01:45:23):
last night super Bowl? Uh oh, hang on, I see
where that didn't work one more time. What you liked
and what you did like about last night Super Bowl.
Speaker 35 (01:45:33):
I guess the best thing for me was the referee
seemed to be playing on the up and up. The
worst thing the super Bowl and all the vocals that
went worth the entire game.
Speaker 5 (01:45:46):
It was horrible.
Speaker 45 (01:45:47):
Hey, Jimmy Abramike, let's see my favorite part commercials top
three Clyiesel's the Border Patrol commercial and Country Reds awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:46:01):
And best super Bowl performance ever was by the Who.
That's my take. You'll have a great day.
Speaker 45 (01:46:07):
Sorry, Mike, I got a traffic for you.
Speaker 5 (01:46:09):
I'm busy.
Speaker 45 (01:46:11):
I was going to report the one for East Sex,

Speaker 38 (01:46:16):
Kendrick Lamar has twenty two Grammy Awards, but listening to him,
I only understood maybe every fifth or sixth word. I
was listening with headphones on, and it was very difficult.
Speaker 3 (01:46:35):
Yeah, well not our taste of music, I guess. But
then again, they're probably trying to reach a little lower
demographic than our age seven forty. Time for traffic and
weather together, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (01:46:47):
I mean, you have the greatest marching band in TSU.
If anybody went to TSU or preview, you know, I
love you all too. But Southern University Terry over there
by now over there in South Louisiana, that makes sense,
best marching band in the entire world.
Speaker 5 (01:47:01):
And Grambling where you know Eddie Robinson went.
Speaker 4 (01:47:03):
You put those two bands, Battle of the Black college bands. Dude,
that would rock right there. I know how you make
all those moves and still be able to blow into
an instrument, you know, y that is amazing And I
would have been out of breath in two seconds. And
it's double time. It's double time for the old Swack universities.
Let's go to the golf freeway here. We had a
problem at Belford. It looks like they've cleared this out
of the way. It was a wreck that affected both
(01:47:25):
the HOV and the main lanes. I think it looks
to me like the HOV is still completely shut down.
That might be a good thing. You don't want to
get stuck in that business behind some metro bus inbound.
We've got nothing but breaks from Fuqui. So I hate
to do this to ro Sharon, but jump on to
eighty eight instead. The best thing is if you could
hit the beltwave and go to two twenty five.
Speaker 5 (01:47:46):
Get around it. It's worth it. There's a thirty five
minute drag on the Golf Freeway. It's awful.
Speaker 4 (01:47:50):
North Freeway clear Parker outbound, Shepherd clear that one too.
All right, reset the jackpot, but we are packed from
Green's Point south and from the Loop northbound. Do the
hearty if you're a big shot East Texas thick, but
it's moving and your West Park Tollway a lot of breaks.
Speaker 5 (01:48:07):
Now from Highway six.

Speaker 5 (01:48:26):

Speaker 18 (01:48:28):

Speaker 5 (01:48:37):
That's February for US, so that's not too bad.
Speaker 18 (01:48:40):
But the front's hanging around and kind of wobble baby,
wobble baby, Wright Skymike eighty percent chance, eighty percent chance
of showers, some thunder tomorrow, ninety percent chance of more
rain Wednesday. Now temperatures are going to warm up into
the seventies. Then once that front finally clears out and
it's cooler Thursday, twenty percent chance of rain and hies

All right, super Bowl fifty nine last night didn't take
much to beat the game as far as interest, because
the game, you know, it was a blowout when he
got right down to it. Kansas City didn't even really
do much scoring until the fourth quarter when the game
had already been decided. As I said, the Carl's Junior
commercial got my attention, and it got my attention because
(01:52:25):
it was like the old Carls Junior before we got
into political correctness. And you know, there's more than two

Burger on Monday, February tenth.
Speaker 5 (01:53:26):
He'll definitely need one.
Speaker 43 (01:53:27):
The obvious nature of men and women is back on
screen and being celebrated. That women love to be sexy
where appropriate, and in a Carl's Junior ad it's totally appropriate,
and men love to fawn over them and that's a
dynamic that actually leads to the continuation of humankind. And
it's fine, But we went through this crazy period. It's
no accident that it has been eight years right, eight
(01:53:49):
years ago we were at the height of the meto era.
Speaker 5 (01:53:51):
Now it's like, you know what, it's fine.
Speaker 43 (01:53:54):
To show off the female form and have guys drooling
over her.
Speaker 3 (01:53:58):
That's romal woman, I mean, vive la de ference right
between men and women. We used to celebrate that difference.
And yes, he was a very very very very very
say very very very attractive woman and a very short
skirt holding a big, juicy hamburger, you know, dripping down
(01:54:21):
her chin, which is what Carl's Junior always used to
do to sell burgers to young men. I mean, what
does a better job of selling a hamburger to a
young male than sex appeal? And we just kind of
got away from that. We got we got away from
the ability to make fun of those types of things.
So it's a refreshing to hear a woman not be
offended by it, and it's refreshing to see it again
(01:54:44):
because again, I think it's signals are more of a
return to normalcy. We continued down the path towards normalcy again,
and that's a beautiful thing. Y'all have a great day.
I'll see you tomorrow morning, bright and early at five am.
I hope to see this afternoon four on a M
