Wonderful? You must have left him. It's not mourning any more, Tim,
I worked late.

Oh okay, So the I have a house. It's about
a year and a half old and I have reached
us life that are starting to get mildew in them.
It's a twenty foot ceiling. And when we first bought
the house, I knew something was up. They were telling

(03:24):
us that we didn't get we had to sign a
waiver to have our thermostats turned down below seventy degrees,
and I knew it had something to do with mildew.

Speaker 9 (03:35):
But is there is that normal waiver?

Speaker 7 (03:39):
And what and what kind of company do I call
to fix that?

Speaker 5 (03:45):
Well, first of all, no, I've never heard of anybody
having to sign a waiver to turn their thermostat down
below seventy.

Speaker 7 (03:53):
Yeah, that was that was the Highland Homes made us
sign a if we wanted to. We didn't do it,
but if we wanted to, we would sign a waiver
for them, or that they had the thermost that's like
locked out where we couldn't in our warranty company, the
A C Company wouldn't do it unless we signed a

(04:14):
waiver and that they said that's for the warranty with Pyland.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Hm hmm. I'm assuming that your walls are foam filled
and your attic is foam filled.

Speaker 7 (04:27):
It's that blow in. I looked up there and there's
and I can see the top of some of the
the framing and it's blown in.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Okay, so it is on the attic floor, yes, okay.
I don't know why they would have had you there. Yeah,
you know, I know a lot of times people are
wanting to turn the thermostats way down and it will

(05:03):
create problems for a home when it's as hot as
it is outside and air conditioning systems. You know, a
lot of AC guys will try to tell you that
it's only designed to drop the temperature fifteen degrees. Now,
it goes a lot. It's made for a lot more
than that, but you do start running into issues when

(05:27):
you start trying to set it. It's you know, sixty
five and things like that. But even in my own house,
sometimes I'll turn it down to sixty nine at night
just to make it nice and cold in there. I
don't do that during the day. Normally during the day
I'm going to be up probably seventy two seventy three degrees.

(05:47):
So but as far as what's going on is you
got the recess lighting. There's a can up above. It
probably doesn't have the insulation around it like the rest
of it, so it's sweating when the cold air and
hot air are meeting each other, and it is going
to have to be cleaned up. There is a company

(06:10):
called Woodland's Water Restoration, Okay. Their number is two eight one,

Okay, Woodlands Water Restoration, yep, Okay, so that don't have
to do anything. I don't need to call the ac
company anything. It's just more of an insulation issue. And
I don't see the top of the canlight, so they're
under there, but they're probably just don't have the insulation
that the rest of the honest Yeah, okay.

Yeah, the insulation is on there, but it's probably you know,
only under two inches of insulation instead like the rest
of it being eight inches, you.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
Know, And what I see is is there's different rows
of that lighting. Three of the rows don't have that,
and then there's one row the whole row has it.
I don't know if there's maybe a piece of their
part of the framing where they didn't work the insulation
under it.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
Maybe yep, very well, could be.

me a call. Let's talk some home improvement. You know
you heard me ask them about foam in the walls
and all that stuff on my podcast that I did
two weeks ago. I think it was I was talking

(07:46):
about some foam insulation, and I am now seeing I've
warned everybody you don't fully encapsulate the home in foam.
It does create issues, and you're totally dependent on the
air conditioning system at that point. And if it doesn't

(08:07):
work to bring in fresh air, if a damper motor
goes out or something like that, your house will start
to sweat and cause problems in it. Well, there's other issues.
And we've talked about this before as well, that when
they foam the roof deck. If you get a leaking roof,

(08:27):
the water gets in the foam, it holds it against
the rafters up there, it holds it against the plywood,
and everything starts rotting out, and nobody knows it. They
can't see it until you got a major, major problem.
And I've told you about some of the insurance companies
are starting to not wanting to insure homes that have

(08:52):
the spray foam on the roof deck. Mortgage companies frowning
upon it things like that, Well, they're are companies now
that their job is to come in and remove that foam.
It has become big enough in the United States now

(09:12):
that companies are doing that for a living. So look,
I love foam insulation in the walls inch for inch.
You cannot beat pham. But put foam in the walls,
and put breathable insulation in the attic. You know, just

(09:38):
keep it where you where you don't have to worry
if that AC system's damper motor goes out, anything like that.
So it's critical if you're looking at building a new home,
specify you want foam in the walls, put a breathable
insulation in the attic. All right, Again, if you to

Brian is looking for an attic insulation company, and look
there there are a lot of home insulation contractors out
there who do do attic insulations and so much. There's
a lot of contractors who will do both walls and

(11:03):
ceilings and stuff like that. You you know, I talk
about USA Insulation. They can do attic insulation for you
as well. Their number is four zero nine three one

the things though that on insulation attic insulation I want
to talk about is there is a lot of different
types for the attic. You got blown in fiberglass, blown
in cellulos. You can use rolled out BAT insulation. If

(11:45):
you use a blown in insulation, be prepared to about
every ten years you've got to add insulation because it
does settle and you have to put more in. If
you use the BAT you don't have to worry about that.
The other thing is cellulos does deteriorate. Usually around thirty
years it'll start deteriorating and start becoming dust, and that's

(12:09):
a big problem for you as well. So just some
little takeaways on insulation issues to look at. Got a
question seven one three, two, one two, five, eight, seven
four talking about USA insulation. You know, retrofitting your home
with foam insulation in the walls is possible. I had

(12:31):
my house done love. It makes a huge difference, not
only on the energy builds the comfort of the home
because you can actually feel it as they're putting the
insulation in the walls. You go from room to room
and you feel the temperature change, the quietness of the
home because it does block up to eighty percent of
the noise from outside. And if you've got an older home,

(12:55):
something that was built in the sixties or earlier, you
know you've got no insallation in the walls. Can you
imagine the difference it would make to have insulation. But
even if you have a new home that has fiberglass
in the walls, if it's a two by four frame home,
it's gonna be R thirteen up that rating. Call USA

Yeah, I've got a home built in twenty two, twenty
four hundred square foot, two stories three and a quarter
time AC unit in it. And unless we grown a dehumidifier,
the house will get up in the meal to the
low seventies on the humidity. Even with a twenty five
hundred square foot and demidifier. He can't get it below fifteen.

Below fifty.

Yeah, there's no way to get it below fifty.

Why do you want it below fifty?

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Well, just just for the no, I've heard that you
want us to keep it. You know, you know, high forties,
low fifties on commenity in the house.

Speaker 5 (19:09):
Normal in the houses is going to be forty five
to sixty five. So if you're getting down into fifty,
that's that's probably as boy as far as you're going
to get it.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
Okay, should shouldn't ac do that without an additional to
him of the fire?

Yes?

Yeah, are don't ye biggest thing?

Yeah? The uh you said you got twenty five hundred
square foot, So how big is y a c.

Well if you if you run the BTU on edit
or you know, the the ratings on it, it comes
up to three point twenty five.

You know, I was just thinking, you know that ac
should pretty well handle a humidity. But the flower does
blow really hard, and I'm thinking maybe it's boning it
too hard blowing the.

Yeah, it may need to be slowed down some.

Okay, and I need to call that number you just
gave on the radio and have you all come out
and blow it down.

Oh yeah, well it depends. Some of them can be
slowed and some of them can't. It depends on the bake.
What brand is this do you know?

I can't remember off the top of my head right now.

Name brands, okay, So I know, like Carrier for instance,
you uh you you pull some wires and plug them
into a different circuit and it will slow the uh
fan molders down and stuff, and a lot of times
that's really all you're gonna need. And there's several of
the manufacturers you can do that with. So yes, if

had an underground construction company for about thirty three years,
and I'm pretty sure I'm on the verge of seven
hour doing something else. And I live on two acres
out here in Lomax. And you know, for right now,

the plan is we're going to stay here for the
foreseeable future. And in my house needs all sorts of
work and all sorts of things you recommended. I mean, uh,
you know, like I want to get the windows replaced.
I want to get the bone insulation and added insulation.
You just mentioned, uh you a couple of three shows
ago or a couple of three weeks ago, you mentioned

a brick that spray or paint. That's you know, that's
good for the bricks because it, you know, have some
some sweat or whatever, you know.

Yeah, and then I have a metal roof on it.
Now that I don't. It's it was a first decision
in my life. I just wanted to get the blasted
thing took off and get regular shingles. My point is, sir,
I know all this has to be done in a
don't make no sense. Wouldn't make no sense to do
this before you do that, or no more sense for

do this before you do that. And I would prefer
if there's anyone out there like this, to just get
someone and kind of broker the work, I guess or whatever,
and let them get all the quotes and you know,
the best quotes and and and you know, and they
know what somebody sort of knows what they're doing where

they know like do this first, do that first, and
schedule these guys next, and things like that. And uh,
me and my wife, we're gonna buy our son a
house uh here pretty close and before he moves in it,
we're just going to pack up and move over there.

gonna move for a while, you know, have a long
the stakes and move back when it's done.

Hi, Thanks for the call, Thanks for taking the call.
I mean I actually spoke to you several months ago.
We were kind of thinking ahead about a remodeling project
and replacing our shower, and we're kind of there where
it's going to happen here pretty quick. And one of
the options you had mentioned was to instead of a

tile floor for the shower, to consider a one of
the quartz type composite.

Speaker 5 (28:42):
Uh yeah, man made material.

Speaker 13 (28:44):
Yeah, yes, sir, And so I think it's going to
be a I think the brand is Cambria, if remember correctly.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Uh. Typically, what I tell you to take a look
at is uh oh shoot, all of a sudden, I
forgot the name of it. I'm sorry, but.

Yeah, there's stylestone.

It's similar to what you just said. Said again, it's
similar to what you just said.

Anyway you admit I think anyway, our conversation before, you
had mentioned that if you have the quartz type composite
as the floor of your shower, you reduce the risk
of water going through pile down into you know, your floor,
and and and what I was wondering one thing is

(29:46):
do you still need that that that polymer membrane below
the the stilestone equivalent if you have the the quartz.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
If you're using the solid bases that way, then you don't.

Speaker 13 (30:02):
Okay, So that simplifies one thing. And then on the
walls way, we were going to have tile, and I
remember when we talked before, you had mentioned have a
hardybacker behind the tile, and and waterproofing on the hardy
backer before the tile goes.

Speaker 5 (30:22):
On yes, I would still put the waterproofing because it'll
come down and there's a lip on those man made
floors that sticks up that all that will come over,
So any moisture that does go through comes down and
into the the floor system rather than causing issues behind. Okay,

So how do you attach that to the wall?

I mean, so you staple it to the to the
studs and then you put the Hardy packer up on

the of the shower pan also that.

And a good afternoon. Uh. I have a question. To
make a long story short, we've noticed in an air
conditioning system that it's not reducing the humidity like it
had been doing. We called up the company that originally
installed the system nine years ago, and they came out

(36:17):
and the guy said that well, he said it was
a little low in refrigid. It was somewhat low in refrigering.
But then when he tested in the I guess you'd
call it condenser area, he said that the problem was
there was a leak in the if I got this
fright in the compressor coil, okay, and that was and

(36:41):
I didn't even know there was a compressor coil. But
then he went on to tell me that while it
was still leaking slowly. In other words, he said, there
was enough refrig in there to keep my house cool.
My system would be formed better, obviously, he said, if
I got the leak repaired and put some more refrigeran
in it, he said it it's cheaper, not cheaper, it

(37:02):
would be more. He says, you can't repair and a
compressor coil. He said that you would have to replace it.
Is that true?

Speaker 5 (37:13):
In many cases it is, but it really depends exactly
where the leak is. But yes, in many cases that
is the case. Okay, okay, So now, was he trying
to sell you a new unit?

Speaker 4 (37:29):
No, because he wasn't kind of selling me a new unit.
He just said that I needed to get a new
compressor coil. And that's what he said.

Speaker 7 (37:36):
He said.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
Is outside. So was it the coils outside?

Speaker 4 (37:42):
He's saying, yeah, outside, not in Okay, yep, once the
addict the evaporator coil is fine. He teted that he
detected no leaks there, just in the one outside.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
So the deal is, you know where the little fins
are on the unit outside. If the leak of her
in the rods that are running through the in the
tubes that are running through those fins, you typically can't
repair that. If the leap is in the tubing that's
going into that before it gets into those fins, that

(38:17):
can be typically repaired. So that's what he's talking about.
What kind of price range has he giving you for
the for the coil?

Speaker 4 (38:30):
Well, for the coil, well, that's a little bit more.
When I originally got the system, I bought a ten
year warranty on parts. Okay, well, the coil mateil, part
of the coil is not going to be a cost
to me. I don't know what else you'll use the
word parts. I don't know. Obviously I'll have to pay

(38:50):
some another thing. But the labor party told me it
is about sixteen hundred dollars. I just thought, let's sound
and high to me. But anyone, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
Ah, they're gonna have to spend probably oh give or
take four hours or so, plus the time it takes
to order the parts and all the other stuff. So
be honest with you, sixteen is probably not That is
probably in the right ballpark for it. And if you

(39:21):
don't have to buy the parts and stuff, man, I
would jump on it.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
Okay. Can I ask you a question? How much the
new three and a half ton? I know this is
you're shooting from the hip. How much does the three
and a half tons condensed a unit cost New?

Speaker 5 (39:40):
Well, it'll depend on it. It would depend on the type.
But it's going to run anywhere from for just the
outside compress or portion anywhere from thirty five hundred dollars
on up to seventy five d probably.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
Okay, Okay, I guess that's my second question. I guess
because if by the way he gave me, he said, well,
I have to go back to the office and I
have to give you an exact quote and all that.
So I'm not I'm assuming that it's fifteen sixteen hundred.
But my question is, do you if it was much
more than that, you recommend I get a new compression
or what it's only nine years old. It's this frustrating

the heck out of me. But or you think I
should just go ahead and get it fixed. I mean,
I know, I'm not trying.

My rule of thumb is on something like that. If
I'm going fifty percent of what it would cost to
replace it, I'm typically going to replace it. Okay, So
I would get I would get a price to go
both ways.

And I hate to do it to you, but that

I wanted to ask some questions about your opinion on
what insulation I did it leverage for insulating a metal building.
I had a metal building put up and I was
looking to get it insulated, and I don't know if
I go with spray pham foil bat, Like, what is your.

Speaker 7 (49:23):
Opinion on that?

Speaker 5 (49:25):
Are you going to air condition it at some point yet? Okay,
if you're going to air condition it, you can use
the spray poam or you can use the bats that
they have that it's kind of wrapped in plastic that
they put on there. But unless you're air conditioning it,
I don't recommend doing that because on either one of them,

(49:49):
because during the day, the insulation heats up and it
holds that heat into the night, and so the insulation
doesn't do you any good if you're not gonna air
condition it, then I recommend you take a look at
a radium barrier on it, and that will typically drop
the temperature inside there about fifteen degrees.

Speaker 2 (50:12):
Gotcha. Yeah, No, I'm looking to air conditioning at some point.

Speaker 7 (50:18):
Yeah, you know it.

Speaker 2 (50:18):
Won't be right away, but yeah, I do want to
impact air Okay.

Speaker 5 (50:23):
Yeah, then you know the advantage of the spray foam
over the plastic wrapped fiberglass insulation is the insulation is
right up against the metal, so there's no room for
it to sweat. When you use the plastic insulation, it

(50:44):
will sometimes sweat between the plastic and the sheet metal
on the outside of it, and it can cause it
want it can cause it. It can sweat enough to drip.
But the other is it actually can cause the metal
to start to rust and stuff over time. We're talking
a long time with the spray foam though, uh, you

(51:07):
don't have that issue because there's no air gaps there.
But the spray foam costs more, so it's a trade off.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
And so with the spray FHM or like do I
ever have to worry about like a bowld issue or
since it is adhering to the metal. No, I should
be good.

Speaker 5 (51:25):
Yep.

maybe nine or ten thousands. Is there any materials out
there now that are not quartz or not granted but
something pretty and will last a long time or see resistant,
scratch resistant or.

Like that. And let me ask you. Do you do
a lot of cooking.

I do a lot of cooking.

Yes, okay, so if you use your kitchen a lot.
I don't recommend the natural products like granted and quartz
and stuff because they're pores. They absorb like bloods from
meat and stuff like that, and it can become an issue.
The man made like stilestone and products like that do

(52:53):
a much better job and they can be made to
look however you want it to look. Yeah, everything from
just going with a straight white to a white that
has gray or gold or whatever blue, whatever color you
want weaved through it. I mean, your choices are almost
endless when it comes to those man made products. They're

(53:15):
they're they're hard, they they hold up extremely well, and
they don't absorb anything and grow bacterious. So, uh that
and honestly, I'm remodeling my house right now and that's
what I'll be putting in.

Okay, Well, what was the name of the kind of stone?

A stilestone is one of them?

In my house, you can stand on one end of
the one room and see all the way down to
the very end of the other room, and it's really
hot in here. Is there any way to getting that
echoess and loudness in there?

Well, normally as you have flooring and paintings and different
things like that, Uh, that would be minimized. So the
more soft mm. Yeah, the more soft things that you have,
the less echo you'll have.

Speaker 18 (54:30):
Okay, So there's nothing that I can put around the
doors to kind of silence being able to hear from
inside a room even if the door's closed.

Speaker 5 (54:41):
No, that's usually a function of the door itself, because
interior doors on homes are are hollow and it tends
to allow the sound out a lot. If you change
them to solid core doors that would minimize it.

I got two questions for you. I got in too
late on your conversation about attic insulation.

Uh huh.

Our house is. Our house is built in two thousand
and five. I just went upstairs and grabbed some of
the insulation. And it's kind of a cottoness looking material.
I assume that is fiberglass. Is that correct?

Speaker 5 (55:43):
White in color?

Speaker 13 (55:44):
White?

Speaker 12 (55:45):
Yes, white and color, and it's kind of stringy.

Speaker 5 (55:47):
Yes, yeah, Uh, chances are it's fiberglass.

Speaker 12 (55:56):
Usually yes, So hole often you have to re blow
fiberglass installation at that all is.

Speaker 5 (56:06):
If you got blown in like that. Usually about every
ten years is when it's settled enough that it's got
to have more added.

Speaker 12 (56:14):
Okay, so it's and it's more frequent than celluos.

Speaker 5 (56:17):
Is that what you're saying, Well, say, cellulose is roughly
about the same about every ten years. The difference is
cellulose as it ages and usually twenty five thirty years,
it starts turning to dust. It deteriorates, it doesn't just settle.

Okay, all right, And so okay, so your recommendations for
people that do blow an insulation or can come up
look at it or.

Speaker 5 (56:47):
Oh yeah you can call you didn't even call USA Insulation.
They can come take a look at it for you.

Have a fifteen year old roof had replaced fifteen years
ago to hell damage as GAF. We bought the high
end shingles forward and it's streaking and before I have
to hire someone to harp or soft wash it to
get the streaks off and stuff like that. I'm curious
is is there someone that does roof inspections with that's

not tied to selling your roof or what would you
recommend for a non buys opinion, if you had washing
the roof is perfect, don't need to buy a new
roof and stuff like that because I hate to spend
the money washing the roof and fine, and I need
to buy put a new roof on.

Well, if your edges aren't starting to curl up and stuff,
then there's no reason to buy a new roof. I
mean usually you usually you can look at yourself and
tell that because all right, like the biggest telltale is
the edges will start curling on the bottom of the shingles.
And once it's doing that, I wouldn't bother doing a

bunch of cleaning and stuff.

Hey, I've got a buddy of mine that's getting ready
to hopefully list his house with me, and he's told
me it has foundation issues and my question is would
any of the repairs possibly be covered under his homeowners association?
I mean homeowners insurance.

Speaker 5 (01:03:07):
Usually not. However, there are some insurance companies that you're
able to do an endorsement onto your policy to have
coverage for foundation repair, accidental water discharge, things like that.

(01:03:28):
There's usually a limit on how much they'll do, and
typically what I see on those is about fifteen thousand.
But like I said, unless somebody specifically asked for that endorsement,
you don't normally have it. And obviously you're aware that
I do foundation repair, and I can tell you I

(01:03:53):
probably don't have more than five a year that have
that type of coverage.

Speaker 9 (01:03:59):
Okay, yeah, I've given him your number to him, but
I don't think he's called you up. I might have
nudge him a little bit, but yeah, you will be

lot of people didn't hold and wait, but they are

this insurance deal used to be we had homeowners a
insurance covered accidental water discharge which meant if your sewer
pipes rotted under the house caused the foundation problem, you
had coverage because it covered damage caused by and access to,

(01:04:54):
but it did not pay to replace the pipes. Well,
you can still get that as an endorsement on a
lot of homeowners' policies, but people don't take it. And
I would tell you you ought to always look at it,
because if your home has cast iron papes, I can

(01:05:16):
guarantee you sooner or later it's got to be replaced.
If your home has PVC pipes, there are certain fittings
like a y fitting, for instance, that are notorious for breaking,
and the access to is the expensive part. Damage caused
by is a lot of times even more expensive. The

(01:05:37):
replacement of the pipe is peanuts. And so you take
that coverage and you don't have to worry about it.
And look, if you've got PVC plumbing, usually to add
that type of coverage onto your policy is dirt cheap.

(01:05:57):
I'm talking in some cases less than one hundred dollars
a year. It is well worth looking at. So most
of us we shop our insurance by strictly the bottom line.
And one guy I'll tell you, oh, I can get
you a cheaper policy and we go with it. Well, yeah,

(01:06:19):
you got a cheaper policy because you've got less coverage.
You got to make sure you're comparing apples to apples.
If one is giving you a six thousand dollars deductible
on the roof and the other one has given you
a two hundred dollars deductible on the roof, and the

(01:06:39):
two policies are within three hundred dollars of themselves, which
one's a better policy? That's what you have to decide.
What risk are you willing to take. The unfortunate thing
is most homeowners strictly look at hey. They said, I
can get a policy for two hundred dollars less and

it's the same coverage. Yeah, the roof is covered, but
it's how much is out of your pocket if there's
an issue anyway? Seven one three two one two five

back up in the attic. I will tell you I
looked at that product the first time probably almost ten
years ago now, uh. And it was actually a caller

about it, and I didn't know anything about it. So
I reached I talked with the homeowner for a little bit,
and when he was having it done, I went out
to his job while they did it. And I've been

question I have is this, after we had it installed
and it powered on an outlet we had up in

That I should put up there to protect the circuits
of the navyant from surges, power stacks, and so on.
The question is which one to use, or whether it

I would tell you I would put a whole house
surge protector in. And the whole reason, yeah, the reason
I tell you that is even in my own house,
I had a power surge that blew out the circuit

put a whole house surge protector. And so I've elected
to have a whole house surge protector put in so
that it covers everything with that one device and Right

They're not that expensive, and it sure gives gives you

biggest problem with it is you'll never know how much
money it saved you because you don't with a surge
protector like that, you don't know when those surges came

the water heater, the refrigerator, the TVs, the computers. You
protect everything, not just single appliances.

when you're flushing the toilet, and it can be that sometimes,
like if there's more solids in what you're flushing, it
has a little bit more back backflow. Then if it's

heard from a couple of fellows that I consider experienced,
and they worry about the reflective layer under composite shingles.
And I don't know if that's something left over because

these are guys, you know, born in the fifties and
sixties and does wisdom come with age, Jim God of hope.

So because I'm in my sixties.

So where do from? Where does that come? Was there
some kind of a study that somebody body, uh prepared
after taking a long drink? Or where concept come that
the reflective layer underneath arms of shingles above?

Speaker 5 (01:23:12):
Have any Yeah? I do. Actually, when radium barriers first
came out, people were under the impression that a radium
barrier would not stop the heat transfer, but reflect it back.
And so what they were afraid of is that when

(01:23:35):
a when the sun would would hit the you know,
on the radium barrier, heat would hit, it would be
reversing its sending it back and the new heat was
coming in and so it was doubling the heat load. Well,
that's not what a radium barrier does. A radium barrier
simply blocks the heat from going any further. And it

(01:23:59):
tookok a long time for people to understand that concept,
but most people have figured it out. And if you
went back in the oh really it was I guess
in the eighties or so, even the roofing manufacturers had
out if you put a radiant barrier under their shingles,
it would avoid the warranty. Well, after they did some

(01:24:23):
studies and stuff that went away, and that is no
longer the case. But a lot of old timers still
some you know, don't keep up with stuff, and they
still kind of have that impression. But no, even all
the manufacturers and stuff have done away with that.

Speaker 12 (01:24:41):
Okay, and.

Speaker 14 (01:24:45):
Kind of a different still in the same general area,
someone had said that there had been dramatic improvements in
the ability of composite shingles, even along the Gulf coast
to last. In other words, when they say twenty or
thirty year warranty, it actually will last most of that.

(01:25:10):
You know that or have you seen you see evidence
there that the shingle there.

Speaker 5 (01:25:15):
Have been improvements on it. Yes, the materials have been improved,
and the manufacturers are you know, making shingles to last longer,
to the point that like the old three tab shingle
that you could get that was a fifteen year shingle,
they don't even make them anymore. It's very difficult to

(01:25:37):
find an old three tab type shingle. Most everything is
a heavier duty, more composite in it and stuff, and
so like if you buy a thirty year. Shingle used
to be fifteen years is about all you were going
to get out of it. You're getting twenty twenty two
years out of them now before they're really starts showing age.

Okay, because I just voted the first time last year,
and I want to put on a shingle that lasts
until my nineties.

best insulator, brick or hardy plank.

Darn good question. Neither one of them is worth a
nam for an insulator. Okay, it's the insulation insulation behind it.
That's going to make all the difference in the world. Honestly,
the brick is a veneer and it has a dead
air space behind it, and so it will actually make

(01:27:35):
the house like it's kind of in a shadow. The
hearty siding goes right onto the studs of the home,
and typically it'll have a vapor barrier behind it, but
you can put a radium barrier behind it. That's what
I'm doing on my own house. But on either case.

(01:27:56):
The insulating is the insulation that's in the wall. If
you're building a new home, I would tell you put
foam insulation in the walls, but use a breathable like
fiberglass or something in the attic.
