I'm doing well.

By yourself, I'm doing great, so good. A lot of
people don't really understand what Rhino shield is. You know,
when you look at it, you think, oh, well, that's
just a paint, but it's not. It's a coating that
does a whole lot more than paint ever thought about doing.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
That's a fact that is for sure. Yeah, Rona Shold
is a ceramic coating. It goes on nine times sticker
than pain, very durable, very impact resistant, insulating, soundproofing, you know,
everything that you would want for the next year of
your home, even as a class A fire reting. So
we'll not ignite, perform very well. We come. We're back

Well, and I'll tell you that there's two items that
I truly love about this product is compared to a
lot of other products, it's breatheable, where when you put
paint on, it's not breathable, and that's why when people
paint brick and stuff, it tends to blister off. And
it's got some elasticity to it where it's not just

gonna crack every time the building materials under it expand
and contract, and that really helps with its durability.

Yes, it really does, you know. So we're we're a
waterproofing product for the exterior wall, but at the same
time allowing the the wall to breathe so it is
fully permeable, which is very important, you know. And it's uh,
it's easy to maintain, easy to clean, to take a
water hose, rinse it off once a year. That's that's

really all we recommend, you know. No more ladders, no
more brushes, no more painters. Yeah, there's much better things
to be doing, spending your time doing than kind of
find that that that good painter guy that worked with
you last time, you know.

Speaker 7 (05:00):
Well, and it comes with a long warranty that people
don't have to worry about it. I mean, their house
stays looking new for years to come.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
It does, you know. The other important thing too is
the colorance that we use. So not only is the
coating reflective, so it's low e rate admitting as reflects
to ev raised and the heat protecting itself, you know.
At the same time, it's keeping the surface of the
wall on average thirty degrees cooner, so it's saving time,

(05:33):
I'm sorry, saving energy, you know. So it's just it's amazing.
And then the twenty five years, I mean, you can't
beat that. And let's say a homeowner is only in
the home for fifteen years and they decide to sell
the house or pass it on to a family member,
then the next homeowner is going to have still a
ten year warranty, you know, covering the next year of
their walls for them.

Now you mentioned that this is a ceramic coating, and
in our Texas sun that can make a huge difference
because our sun is what really just beats up other
building materials and paints and different things like that. This

product is used all over Texas and protects buildings where
people don't even realize what they're looking at is this product.
But if you're seeing a place that's staying looking good
for year after year after year, not fading and stuff,
it's probably gonna be rhino shield on it.

Very true.

That is very true, you know. So it is Ronal
shield is built to last. As I was mentioned, the
colorants are even reflective, and so you've got the ceramics
as well as the colorance. The colorance we use are
very high end, cool coloring system that's also reflected. You know,
dark colors have gotten popular again, you know, and used
to We used to try and shut people away to

a light tone or a midtone. But we're doing a
lot of blacks, a lot of bronzes.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
You know.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
We just don't have any issues with it. You know.
We can put the Ronald Shield on any substrate, on
any building to be commercial, residential, and illustate looking beautiful
for many years.

Speaker 7 (07:15):
So well, and you know you mentioned any substrate. I mean,
you guys can do I mentioned brick already. You can
do hardy, you can do wood, you can do metal,
virtually any building material out there. You guys can apply
the Rhino Shield product.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
That is correct. We have a you know, very much
like paint. So we have a product that works for
every substrate out there. So you name it, we've got
something for it, all built less.

Speaker 7 (07:45):
So I have done some places with Rhino Shield in
the past, and you know, some of the things that
I found very interesting was we did we did one
home where we did the brick, we did the overhead
garage door. And the part that really I found interesting

(08:08):
was they had white vinyl windows and they didn't want white,
and we used the Rhino Shield product to paint those
window frames as well. And at that place just came
out looking gorgeous. And that has been probably five years ago,

(08:31):
and you can't tell that that's a five year old
paint job. I mean, it still looks gorgeous.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Let's see, you know, you know, we've been doing this
for quite some time. Let's see. I took over the
dealership here in the Censor, South Texas area in February
twenty eleven and we have done over sixteen hundred projects
in this area. You know, climate is very, very tough
and challenging, and we've just had a fantastic performance. We

really have in those days we come out and do
a house for you. Obviously, you know, you can have
the best product in the world, like Rnashield, but if
it's not done by the right guys, lucky did any good.
But I let's just say we've got the best of
boath We've got guys and be with us for twelve
plus years, which do fantastic work. They're very good at
what they do. We could, you know, if we need
to do masonry repair or carpetry repair, we take care

(09:21):
of all that and install the nushield product that homeowner
is going to go for a long time, you know,
So you've got a turnkey job. Good for the homeowner,
it's good for us. Everybody's happy. You've got twenty five
years back in you you know, non parading and transferable.
Something comes up to consul and just call us. We
got your covets well.

Speaker 7 (09:39):
And that prep work is the important part because you
are putting a twenty five year warranty on it. You're
getting all the bad wood taking care of and stuff
ahead of time so that it's there to stay and last,
because i mean, who wants to go in and patch
it after you got the coding on.

Speaker 8 (09:58):
Well.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
You know, it's very common in the painting industry that
the painters, you know, obviously they're not carpenters, and so
what they'll use as a patch of compound or something
like that, so more or less just kind of putting
a bandit damaged area, you know, and rock select and affection.
If you don't treat and remove it, it's going to
spread in other airs of the house. So we're going
to make sure to come in and do a thorough

(10:18):
inspection and anything that's as it's even if it's questionable.
You know, some people may even leave it. If it's questionable,
we're going to take it down and replace it because
it's just better for the homeowner. It's better for us.
Twenty five years in a warrant is a long time,
so you got to make sure that you get that
house prepared properly.

Speaker 7 (10:35):
Yep. So in this in Central Texas, they can call
Rhino Shield at eight five five Rhino Texas and Rhino
is r H I N O t X. It's Rhino TX.
And then in Houston two eight one six twenty six
ninety seven. Two eight one six twenty six ninety seven.

And like I said, I'm familiar with this product for
years already, and I've actually recommended it to people in
the past in the Houston area and stuff because I
know it's something that's going to last and hold up
to the weather we have, and that's really an important
part of it.

It sure is. So you know, one of the things
that we should mention, you know, especially along the coastline.
Obviously deal with that salt are in the Houston Gallaston area.
Ronis shield is built to a stand the salt here,
we don't see the crosion and break down like you
see with traditional Thanks and probably one of the neatest
jobs that we did as a dealer here in the

central South Texas area was the plains on the USS
Lexington down in Corpus Christie.

This was back in twenty thirteen, so this goes back
some time. But yeah, the mainess manager gave us a
call because they got tired of thanks the planes, you know,
the corrosion, you know the yep. He had mentioned that
the Corpus Christy coastline was the most corrosive coastline in America,
is what he had said. You know, I'm thinking they're
all the same, but I guess Corpuses maybe a little
bit worse. But by the time they got down tainting

(12:14):
that last plane, they had to go back and taint
the first plane again, and so we put rhino shirt
on them. We've done all the planes at this point
and they're very happy with the performance that they've got
into our products.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Wow, that's that's cool. Antheon, you might hold an onsro

We're talking with Anthony from Rhino'shield and Anthony, I know
we've we've said this already that this is not really

(16:19):
a paint, it is a coding. And I know a
lot of people get confused with that because let's face it,
when it's done, it does look like a paint. And
like you were just mentioning, uh, doing the planes on
the Lexington, I've taken boy scouts years ago down there
and stayed on it. I mean, you guys can get

(16:39):
into some really nice specialty work to keep things looking
gorgeous for years to come.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
We sure can, you know, so we've again, we've you know,
small residential to large commercial, We've got a product for it,
and you just you just can't beat it made for
the price. I mean to go in and invest into
a heavy ceramic coding like what we offer. You know,
Ronal Shield is seventy nine percent solid, you know, that's

(17:09):
or what they would consider solids, and only twenty one
percent water. You know, paint on average is going to
have at least sixty percent water content. And so let's
just say that you chose to go with paint. You know,
you can be a cheap bank job, could be an
expensive pink job. No matter what you spend, sixty percent
of what you spend on that paint job is going

(17:30):
to evaporate in the drying process. You know, Yeah, you
don't really think about that with Rono shields, seventy nine
percent of what we put on the wall is staying
on the wall, and so well.

Speaker 7 (17:42):
The other issue with paint that a lot of people
don't realize is, especially when you get a cheap paint,
the reason it starts turning to dust and kind of
powdery it it's got clay in it, and so you
mix the water the clay and by the time you
get done with all those percentages, there's not a whole
lot of good stuff in it.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
No, it's not you know what. You know, paint used
to be designed the last long time. It's not anymore.
So you know these days, on average, you know, about
every depending on where relocated on the coastline, maybe two
three years, you know, North Texas five to seven. Right,
So we just say, on average, if you're protecting your
home the way that you should, you're going to be

(18:24):
painted every five years. And clay, I mean, holy cal
that's like putting an egg shell on the outside of
the house. Yeah, when you think, you know, again, paint's
designed to fail. It gives you a life expectancy, whether
you like or not. It's got an expiration date. You'll
be doing it again. You know, so you've got this
rigid material on the outside, this clay what they call plasticizes,
which is clay and plastic that expands in the heat

(18:46):
and it cracks. You know, it's designed to do that.
So you get these little microfractures they call them in
the paint, and then the elements start getting in and
then you start you may see mold first, you may
see discolouration, maybe pealing, and all of a sudden, Holy cow,
it's time to pay against.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
And the other thing is that this is not just
one layer. I mean, you guys have a process that
you have to go through. Once you get to your
substrate cleaned up and ready h and and you know
all the bad would taken care of and all that
stuff go through the process of application.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Sure. Yeah, So obviously cleaning the house is very important.
You know, that's one of the things that you'll notice
that a lot of your companies out there don't they
do not do. And so we're going to come out
wash the home. We're going to use the house wash
that's got mill the sizes cleansing agent. It's going to
have a small percentage of bleach because it's recommended, but
mostly water and we're going to kill all the moldmill
analogy that's present. We're going to wash it away as

(19:44):
well as all the airborne debris that is settled on
the nextiar of the home. We want to make sure
that we've got a good clean surface to attach our
product to. Okay, and then we're going to come in
and do all repairs that are necessary. We're going to
recoffee in the entire house because are the costs that
we use or they're Last America so they're more flexible.
They're like our product. It's flexible. You got to put

(20:05):
flexible and flexible. We want things that are more flexible,
more waterproof, and more adhesive, which is what we use.
We're going to come back and we coalk around all
the joints, windows, doors, corner boards, where the saft it
meets the wall, when the soft it meets the facia,
the trim around the garage doors, I mean, everything gets recaught.
At that point, we actually do a midway and what
we call our prep completion spectrum of the homeowners. We're

(20:26):
going to ask them to step outside and do an
inspection to make sure they're satisfied with all the prep
work that we've done. At that point, they sign off
and give us the green lights to start applying the product.
And from there we're going to apply our adhesive primer Seeer,
which is a very unique Torona shield. It's not something
that you're going to find out there. It's a lot
likely glute and so it actually go it goes on
white so we can see the application. When it sets up,

(20:48):
drives and cures, it's going to turn clear and you
can still see it because it has a sheen to it.
You know, if you touch it, it's very interesting and
almost it still feels wet, but it's not. It's dry.
It's just a very tacky, sticky material if design and
to penetrate through the existing paint that's on the home
already and attach itself to the substrate underneath, very much
like the blue. So it's going to attach the sealed

(21:08):
waterproof the wall. And then Part B goes on, which
is what we call our durable finished coat. So we
get one heavy coat of the primer and then two
heavy coats of the Rhino Shield ceramic coating, which is
going to make up your run shield system, which is
like the thickness of nine coats of paint more or
less and a good thing. A lot of people get concerned, Well,
God's this stuff is thick. It's going to alter the
look at our house. Is going to change the look.

(21:30):
It does not change the look. It's going to take
on the texture of whatever we apply it to. So
it's going to go on like paint. It's going to
look like paint, but it's gonna last a whole lot longer.
It's going to save you money and the energy bill.
It's going to save you from not having a paint
every five years. It's just a win win.

Jordan sent in an email about roof attic ventilators and
he says, contractor to inspect and repair or replace three
powered roof attic ventilators. These were original installed by a
contractor you recommend, Well, call them back, let them come
take a look at it.

Speaker 5 (24:03):
You know.

Speaker 7 (24:04):
One of the reasons I recommend solar power a lot
of times is they do tend to have a longer
use life. But the electric ones have come a long
ways towards lasting better. But the issue is the little
electric motors tend to burn out. That's not the installer's issue,

(24:27):
that is the manufacturer's issue. But yeah, give a Guardian well, well,
I don't know if it was Guardian who put them
in or not, because there's other contractors who do this
type of work as well. But give Guardian Roof Systems
to call it two eight one four zero seven seventy
two to eighty. Let them come out take a look,

and I mean it's an easy change out. Again, it's
two eight one four zero seven seventy two eighty for

Hey, Jen, thanks for taking my call this afternoon. I
got a quick question. I was thinking about putting some
solar screens on our house and I want to see
if you had any recommendations to install them around the
Baytown area.

Speaker 7 (25:24):
Yeah, out of Pasadena, Johnson Glass on Fairmont. Okay, they do.

Speaker 12 (25:32):
Them, Okay, all right, Well appreciate it, and they have
ano they got different ones, that's like ninety and eighty percent. Yeah,
if you was installing them, you would go with the
ninety percent.

Speaker 7 (25:45):
Well, it depends because what's going to happen. The higher
number you go, the darker it's going to be inside
because it starts blocking the light that's coming through. All right,
So it really depends on what type of view you
want to have going out, you know, looking out and
looking in both right right, And you've got different colors

(26:09):
to choose from as well, you know, whether you want
to go with a just a black or a They
even have them in white and stuff now also so
but by the way, I would not recommend the white,
just because in our climate it'll get too much of
that pollution on it, and they're kind of difficult to
keep clean. Your your bronze type colors, the grayish colors,

(26:33):
they tend to be the easiest to take care of.
But yeah, I personally probably would not go with a
ninety percent block. I would probably personally i'd be down
more in it's probably seventy okay, Okay, and that's just
because I like to look outside through the windows.

Yeah, Johnson Glass on Fairmont there, I had them put
in some shower doors for me because it was custom stuff.
And I was in their showroom and I mean I've
used them, gosh since since the seventies to do different things.

(27:27):
And I was in there and I saw that they
had the screen materials and as I didn't know you
guys did that stuff. Oh yeah, And so they went
through and showed me the different things they do. So yeah,
they absolutely can help you with that. They can help you,
like I said, with you know, shower doors and windows.
If you've got glass packs, you know where you got

(27:50):
the double pane windows, and it's are gone filled and
it's gone gotten all cloudy on you. They can replace
the glass panels so that you got nice clear again. Uh,
they can do all kinds of things for you over
there at Johnson Glass. Got a question seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. That's seven one

three two one two five eight seven four. And I'll
see what I can do to help you out here

see here this came from Pat and she says, Uh,
someone to stop the bald cypress roots from next house

(28:39):
from coming under our foundation. Well, that's what you would
have a root barrier for. And depending on how deep
your foundation beam is will determine if you need to
even do anything. Most tree roots are in the top
eighteen inches in the the those bald cypressos, they're typically

(29:02):
really in the top eighteen inches. They kind of spread
out on the surface and that's the reason you see
all those little knots coming up, the balls that come up.
But what I typically recommend is a three foot root
shield of high density plastic so that the trees don't

(29:22):
just grow through it. The roots and stuff The issue
you have to watch with the bald cypress tree is
that your root barrier comes all the way to the
surface of the ground, and even at that those roots
are going to try to go over the top because
they are so much on the surface, so periodically you
still may end up cutting them off to just keep

them from growing across your yard and stuff. But yeah,
those things are They're darn near as bad as bamboo
on spreading out again, if you got a question seven

Well? Anytime you have something like that on the shingles,
you run the risk of leaks. So I mean that's
gonna be the first thing. The secondary thing is gonna
be you don't want to have a board that goes
all the way across. It's gonna have to be some
legs that come down or something, because yeah, if you
put a board all the way across, the water is

(35:28):
gonna come down, hit it and back up and I
can guarantee you you'll have a leak with that.

Speaker 13 (35:34):
So right, they do have legs. I mean they've given
me a kind of a cut sheet of a design
that they're gonna use, and it's like you say, it's
a leg, So it'd be like three or four legs
across the side that they're gonna mount on top of
the roof.

Speaker 7 (35:51):
Now I'm I'm gonna make this if they're gonna do
it right. What they're gonna do is take up the
shape where those legs go down, put flashing around it
as they're putting the shingles in, so that any water
that comes down, uh, is not able to just go
up where the leg is and go under it. It's

it'll have flashing to go around it. Just like any
other penetration on the roof, kind of like a vent
stack up there.

Should I have a roofing company install those.

If it's if it's an option.

never know when you're dealing with people like this if

medical sauna. And the the door broke it with nothing
but glass heads hinged with hinges, and it broke and
I'm having a hard time replate getting it replaced.

Out of California that they have a the place where
we want it as medical sauna and it is, they
couldn't replace it. Then I tried Myerlin Glass and uh
and they don't really do that, you know sort of thing.

And the manufacturer wasn't I'm assuming when you talk to
them in California that was a manufacturer.

I don't know that plexiglass would because I don't know

It spreads like it's unreal. They you have some chemicals
and I don't know what they're called that you can
put on to keep it from spreading, but I honestly
don't know what they are. The problem with bamboo, though,
is their roots system just it's rapid the way it

(45:18):
spreads out. You can put some barriers down as well,
but again, if the roots get over it, it'll continue
to spread. If this isn't a regular yard, it's kind
of out and on a ranch property, I would put

(45:39):
a root barrier down. I use when I put root
barriers in it due West, we use a high density plastic.
We go three feet into the ground, and in the
situation that you have, I would extend it up above
ground probably two three inches because it's not going to
hurt a lawnmower or anything, but that would keep it
from being able to just jump over it, and then

(46:02):
you'd have to dig out all the roots that are
on your side, douse it with the chemicals and keep
it from growing back.

I'mmost start with an email question that came in from

(50:06):
TC and it says high humidity in retrospace, sprayed foam
old house. Well, you hear me tell you all the time,
don't totally encapsulate your home. I don't care if it's
new construction or old construction, but especially on old construction.

(50:30):
Those homes, older homes, they were built with air gaps
in them. They breathe. And that's the problem with a
lot of our homes nowadays is they don't breathe enough.
We don't get enough fresh air in from outside, and
that's where we end up putting in that fresh air
draw into our air conditioning system. Well, now you're depending

(50:52):
on the air conditioner to be on to be drawing
that fresh air in. So if you're going to and
I recommend all the time, foae in the walls, nothing
wrong with that, But don't phone the attic. And if
it's a crawl space house, then you don't need to
phone the crawl space. But at the very least don't

(51:16):
phone the attic. You typically have space for insulation in
the attic. So our thirty nine is our thirty nine.
It doesn't matter if you've got ten inches of insulation
or twenty four inches of insulation. The R value is
the same. R thirty nine is our thirty nine. That's

(51:39):
what you got to be concerned with. Uh. But inch
for inch you can't beat poam insulation as far as
our value. That's the reason I want to use it
in the walls, but not the attic. All right, again,

She says, Hi, Jim have a house built in nineteen
seventy seven. It has had foundation work all around it.
There are two metal clean out pipes in the front,
have not had any leaks, no discoloration. We put toilet
paper in the trash, try to take care of the house.

(52:46):
Should we be concerned about the pipes or is a
situation where it may happen and it may not. What
should we be looking out for? We have been here
twenty five years and none of our neighbors have had
an issue that we know of, Thank you. Okay, nineteen

(53:11):
seventy seven, most homes were already being built with PVC
or something other than cast iron pipes. Now you may
still have a cast iron clean out. Doesn't mean the
pipes on the home, though, are cast iron. If it
is cast iron, it will deteriorate, it will have to

(53:31):
be replaced. You're on borrowed time at this point. But
if it's just a cleanout pipe that comes up, that's
cast iron and the rest of the system was PVC,
it might have been something else. I mean, there were

(53:52):
some homes that were were done with gray pipe. There
was some homes done with a felt paper type pipe.
Now the felt paper one that would need to be replaced,
clay pipe that would need to be replaced. Cast iron
that's going to need to be replaced. So really, the
PVC is the way to go. But by like I said,

(54:14):
by seventy seven, most homes, most builders were already using PVC.
So what do you look for. Well, if you start
getting an area of your foundation that's coming up and
creating a hump, that could be because your sewer pipe

(54:35):
is leaking, and so it would need to be addressed.
The easiest thing to do is what's called a static test,
and that's where you would drop a ball, and that's
what it's called. It's just basically a rubber air bladder
that you can drop down in the pipe. You pump

(54:56):
it up to seal the pipe and fill the system
with water and see if it holds. If it doesn't,
then you can isolate it and find out where the
leaks are. So that's that's something I would do, the
static test. You know, if you hire a plumber to
come out and do it, you're typically looking at between

(55:18):
three and four hundred dollars to get that done. It
is something you can do yourself. Just go get the
test ball and they're even sold a lot of times
at home depot and lows drop it in there. You
got to know whether you got a three inch or
a four inch pipe, but you put it in there,
air it up, fill the system, and see if it holds.

(55:40):
When I say fill the system, you want to fill
up to the at least the bottom of the foundation.
If you got a brick home and it's got a
brick ledge, if you get up to the bottom of
the brick ledge, you're good. You're about an inch and
a half from the top of the slab. And then

(56:03):
so you may have to put an extension on that
clean out in order to get the water high enough,
but you just fill it to that and let it sit.
A cautionary note, if your house is way out a level,
you do not want to fill higher than the top
of the foundation at the lowest point, because if you've

(56:25):
got a toilet that's got a wax ring and that
wax ring isn't holding real good, you'll fill the system
and it'll start leaking water all over the house from
underneath the toilet, and now you got a nasty problem.
So hopefully that helps you out. I know that was
kind of a lengthy little thing. Near got a question

Our ten year old LG door refrigerator started making a
noise a few weeks ago. Kind of a humming noise
or sour violin. Note it stops when you open the
door and resumes when you close the door. It's driving

what you got going on is something is loose somewhere,
whether it's on the coils on the backside of that refrigerator,
whether it's something in the door panel itself. But when
the door is open, something is being allowed to rub

together that stops when you close the door. So open
the door, start going around the door pushing to see
if it stops. That would tell you that there's a
loose panel in the opening somewhere. The next thing would
be to just plane start pushing on different pieces of

that refrigerator until you find where this minor vibration is
that's allowing it to rub and cause this problem, and
it's just going to be a trial by air. One
of the big places to check is those coils on
the backside. A lot of them still have those coils
on the outside of the refrigerator. And if you've got that,

just try grabbing it in different places. You'd be amazed
at how much vibration that thing has and how loud
it can get and almost always that's where it's at.

getting a, crack as long as the crack's not opening,

what would you go back with in the garage if

Eighties, okay typically every twenty years when they paint it
and put popcorn on it or any type of. Texture
but even just, paint it'll start peeling off just from
the heat and humidity in the, garage and so you
end up redoing. That if the sheet rock it starts coming,

down that's usually an indication it wasn't attached very well
to begin. With, normally the way a ceiling sheet rock
should be done is two screws every six to eight.
Inches so it's a lot of screws to hold it up,
there and they just a lot of times get them

too far, apart and over time the sheet rock starts
getting a little soft. Again it's exposed to all the
humidity and stuff in a, garage and at that point
it'll pull. Through if you put new sheet rock up
tape and float, it you're gonna get twenty years before
you got to paint, it and probably another forty years

before you got to replace it. Again if you put
plywood up and just paint, it you probably will never
have to touch it. Again. Okay and it doesn't have
to be heavy. PLYWOOD i mean even a quarter inch
plywood up there does just.

it cleans it up and flushes everything out at the

look it looks like kind of a rocket taking off

when you remove that pop, up go from the bottom,
side because it'll it'll start breaking up from the bottom
