I am doing wonderful. I have got to tell you this,
This new front door we put in is gorgeous. It's
just beautiful.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Well, you guys picked out a nice design with naughty
alder wood and a nice stain cover, and you can't
beat that textas star grill that you got on that.

Speaker 7 (03:12):
You know, I've always wanted a door with the Texas
Star in it, and so when I saw that one,
I and I actually saw it when I was walking
through your showroom originally and then I went back on
the website to find it and yeah, I just that's
something I've always wanted to have on the door.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yeah, it's been a staple for a long time that
we've carried it for many many years. And every time
we try to take it away, you know, everybody complains
says no, no.

Speaker 8 (03:42):
You got to bring it back.

So, yeah, that's that's an awesome design.

Speaker 7 (03:47):
Yep. So, Jesse, I mentioned going to your showroom and
you guys got just so many doors to choose from,
not just the wooden doors like like I went with,
but you got the iron doors, the fiberglass doors and
things like that. How do you help somebody choose the
right front door.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yeah, we we make an evaluation of their situation. So
is it is it a front door, is it a
back door, is it a side door? Is it the
man door on your garage? You know what, what is
it that you need? And then and then after we
you know, we get we go through that is okay,
what's the weather going to be like? You know, do
you need a fiberglass door? Uh, you don't have any overhang?

Or do you are you looking for security? Do you
want an iron door or are you're more about design?
And and uh, you know your house has a covered
porch and you want that traditional beautiful wood door, whether
it's mahogany or naughty albre We we spend some time
with the customer just to figure out, you know, what

(04:53):
what what they need and what they like so we
can steer them in the right direction.

Speaker 7 (04:59):
You I had my my brother was over earlier this
week actually, and uh he was looking at the door
and he says, man, as sure is pretty Uh. And
you guys not only do the install which is a
key part to making it right, but on wooden doors.

(05:19):
You do all the finished work as well.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
Yeah, you know what doesn't you know, you can get
a beautiful door, But the trim work at the end
of of the install is what makes I think, what
makes the door. Trimming it out correctly with the right tram, obviously,
sealing it up, cocking, putting some insulation in there. All
those little details make it, you know, come out at

(05:45):
at the end of the day look beautiful. Uh, if
you trim it out wrong, if you don't, if you
don't seal it right, you can have a beautiful door.
But if it's not installed right, you know, you may
have some issues. So we gotta we gotta look at
the details. So and then at the and the other
thing is finishing it out with some nice hardware. That's

(06:06):
the other thing is the hardware also usually you know,
like I know, you went where they sat and Nickel
digital hardware and it stands out, I mean, it pops.

Speaker 7 (06:18):
Yeah. That and and I touched on this just a
second when I said that you guys do the install. Uh,
it's not a sub crew or something. It's your permanent employees.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah, I mean we we we you know, it's full turnkey,
so we take responsibility for the whole whole thing. There's
some there's there's some outfits out there that will sell
you the door and then they they wash their hands
of it. We we not only do the pre measure,
the install, and then and then the the after the service,
after the sale. So we we handle it one hundred percent.

(06:57):
So whether it's an if you have an issue and
it's an install issue or a door issue, you only
got to make one phone call.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
We own it.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
I found the install crew that came out I thought
were pretty uh, it was pretty interesting because it was
a father and son in law team and they worked
extremely well together.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Yeah, they're actually a father and son Mario Senior Mario
Junior been with us for many, many many years. That's
all they do, and they work strictly for us, and
they're are employees and they I mean they look at
all the details. Again, they they do the pre measure

(07:42):
and the install. You know, some some people will send
somebody else, like a salesperson to do the measure and
then the install people get out there and they're like,
well it wasn't measured right. Well, the same people who
measure your door will install the door. Again, we own it.

Speaker 9 (07:59):
Right.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
They make sure that everything's going to fit properly.

Speaker 7 (08:03):
So let's talk about because I mentioned I had the ability,
I was in your showroom, then I went online and
went through the doors and stuff. But you guys can
help people regardless of if they come to the showroom
or not.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Yeah, we can if we absolutely have to. If they
cannot make it to the showroom, we could do stuff
over the phone and email pictures back and forth. It's
a little tougher from one sense in that we'd like
for people to see the stained color that they're choosing
and the glass texture that they're choosing, because there's nothing

(08:41):
like seeing it live. Yeah, sometimes a picture doesn't do
it justice, but we can certainly do it that way.
We just prefer for people to pay a visit. We
think it's very well worth their time.

Speaker 7 (08:57):
So let's talk about then, if somebody wants to come in,
do they need to make an appointment or do you
have just the set hours that you'll let them come
in or how do you handle that?

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Yeah, we handle it both ways. If somebody is on
a timetable because they're busy, we can certainly make an
appointment so that we can take care of them. Once
they arrive. But if they if they just want to
visit us at their leisure, you know where, we are
open nine to five Monday through Saturday.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
And we normally like to tell people, hey, you're gonna
at least spend an hour looking at things and choosing
colors and textures and so forth, so you know, give us,
you know, allow at least an hour of your time
to be able to make some selections.

Speaker 7 (09:47):
And some of those selections are stuff people don't even
think about upfront. I mean the doggy door and things
like that.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Yeah, there's there's a lot of little things and we
and we do a lot of new technology things, but
we also we also do some old school things. So
for example, we can do doggy doors, we can do
peep holes or peep sites. We can also do mail slots.
Some people still like door knockers. So all these little

(10:17):
details that some people are particular about, Hey, the finish
of my knocker or the finish of my peep site.
I wanted to match my hardware. I wanted to match
my hinges or my threshold. All those details, we cover
them so that there's no details that are missed.

Okay. Now, I will highly recommend to people that both
husband and wife take a look at the door, just
so that everybody's on the same page when when the
door comes out, because there are so many options. It's
it's like remodeling your house. It's it's one of those
things where if you don't got everybody's right opinion on it.

And guys, I'm telling you upfront, if you don't got
Mama happy, ain't nobody going to be happy about it
in Mother's Day's next weekend.

Absolutely One of the biggest things we see with that
is somebody will come in and say, oh, I can
get this glass or I can get more obscure glass.
And you know, some people want people to see in yep.
Some people don't want people to see in at all.
So we can help you with that. And sometimes, you know,
the husband may say I don't care.

Sometimes the wife says, no, I want something obscure. I
don't want nobody seeing me. We can address and show
you all those details of Hey, how much obscurity do

Oh, yes, sir, thank you very much. I've been helping
this disabled Vietnam vet for some time and he's having
a problem with his electric water heater. I've always had
gas water heater, so I don't really know a whole
lot about electric water heaters. It's been kicking the breaker.
So he had another friend change the elements and it's
still kicking the breaker. What do you think is causing that?

Speaker 7 (16:28):
There's a short in it somewhere? And obviously it's not
in the elements for that to be happening. But it
doesn't even have to be in the water heater. It
could be just a weak breaker. Any idea how old
the water heater and house and everything is.

Speaker 13 (16:43):
The house was built in around seventy eight, but they
replaced the water heater. I remember right about ten years ago.

Speaker 7 (16:52):
Okay, my guess is not going to be that it's
in the water heat, because when you replace the elements
that should have caught it, my guess is gonna be
there's a loose wire somewhere. Because the house is old
enough that things sometimes have to be tightened up, and

(17:14):
I didn't think that. Yeah, I would check with I
would start at the water heater and work my way
backwards to the breaker box. Uh. Really, it's just tightening
up the making sure that the wires are connected good
at the water heater. If something got loose, it's more
likely going to be back at the breaker back panel.

Speaker 13 (17:34):
Okay, I'll check that first. Man. Thank you, I really
I didn't think of the loose wiring. That's a good,

I was wondering if I could get some advice. I'm
sixty seven years old. I have twins, believe it or not,
that are eighteen years old going to go into college,
and we are interested in getting houses, buying houses and
making them into rent houses. And they are wondering what

would be a good trade school to go to to
facilitate something like this.

Speaker 7 (20:09):
Hm. Well, the trade schools are going to teach you
a specific trade. So is there a specific trade they're
wanting to learn or they just looking to learn general.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
Well, they're looking towards being capitalists and cutting the expenses
that we would have to do. You know, I'm not
planning on getting ten or fifteen hourses, maybe just five
or six houses and making some profit off of that
and then we don't have to pay as much for

(20:48):
you know, I don't know electrician or something like that.
I'm not very good with my hands or anything like that,
but they are. I've got the money. I'm retired Navy.
I'm a school teacher since ninety two.

Uh.

And I've also started to click so security, so I've
got the income coming in and I wanted to. And
also my kids are kind of get their schooling paid
for too, thanks to Texas and Uncle Sam.

I've just got the best family in the world. I've
got kids that still love me. Even though they're they're
eighteen years old and I've also got a thirteen year old,
but uh, we're just a very close family.

and Mark you mentioned that they're like eighteen coming out

of high school. Correct, yes, sir, what high school?

Uh? Bay Area Christian? Okay, So the reason why I
have a little bit more money now.

Speaker 7 (23:52):
Wait till they get done with college. Then you've written
nom jeesson uh No.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
I played paid more than well close to four hundred
thousand dollars so far.

Speaker 7 (24:04):
Yep. So I will tell you when I went to
was in high school. I took all the shop classes
and stuff, electrical and woodworking and all that stuff because
I knew then I wanted to be a contractor. When
I finished with high school, I actually went out to
San Jack and I took accounting classes so I could

(24:28):
run my own business and things like that. But San
Jack also offers some great classes for the trades. They
have obviously welding, they have air conditioning and different things
like that where you can learn the trades if you're

(24:49):
going to go into, like you were talking about a
business running rent properties and things like that, because I
will tell you had I not been a contract and
had due West, I would have. I still like rent properties.
I still do that, but that would have been my
full time gig. I would have bought properties and done

(25:13):
nothing but maintain those myself. And I would right now,
with the way interest rates are, the way the sales
have gone and stuff, I would say we're probably about
four months away from it really making a switch where

(25:35):
it's going to be a great time for investors to
jump in. And I say that because spring houses move,
because people are moving from one one area to another,
but you notice they're moving a little slower, a lot
slower than they were just a year or two ago.
And come come fall, when school starts up again, houses

(25:58):
aren't going to be moving and by by uh Oh,
I would say around September, you're going to see prices
start kind of dwindling down and people are going to
be willing to negotiate with you a lot more on
purchasing these houses. And you're you're you're mentioning as far

(26:19):
as being able to go in and do them yourself.
The thing you're gonna find is for minor plumbing and
and that it's great to do it yourself. You're going
to have to learn a lot of it trial by
error because there's not places to go and learn replacing

(26:41):
flooring and and doing stuff like that. That's just naturally
learning to work with your hands and doing it that way.
And I know you said you're you're not someone who
works with your hands a lot. That doesn't mean your
kids won't be though, m so, but I I personally
I would look at the core horses that are offered
at Sanjak College and and start with that the main

(27:05):
campus over there at red Bluff and Fairmont and and
and Spencer there.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
Yeah, I've actually looked into that and that was one
of the ones that I I shared with my sons
on that. So, yeh, you're I really appreciate your encouragement
on this because I really feel like this is something that,
you know, I can do when I retire and uh

(27:36):
make a little bit more money and maybe have something
for my kiddos when I'm no longer here.

Speaker 7 (27:43):
Absolutely, you know, and I've been saying this for a
long time now, that I really encourage people to go
into the trades air conditioning, plumbing, electrical things like that. Uh,
college is great, but it's not for everybody. And quite honestly,
with what AI is doing to office work and things

(28:03):
like that, if you can work with your hands and
can do electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, different trades like that,
you don't have to worry about AI taking over, and
you don't necessarily have to work for somebody your whole life.
You can start your own business once you've got the

(28:25):
experience that it takes to do it and the money.
The people who do air conditioning work and plumbing work
and stuff like that, they make more than a lot
of college graduates, and I would dare venture to say
more than most college graduates.

Speaker 5 (28:47):
I agree with you on that. I teach intermediate school
right now, and I can retire from that, but I
want to have enough for my kiddos and everything like that,
ye later on. And I know a lot of my

(29:08):
kids that have come back from college and they're still
looking for you know, employment.

Speaker 7 (29:15):
Yeah, and and you look at what AI is doing
right now. They people are saying, oh, yeah, no, it's
it's no big deal. It is a big deal.

Speaker 11 (29:26):
It is.

Speaker 7 (29:26):
You're gonna see AI stuff changing a lot of what's
going on. And quite frankly, even what I'm doing right now,
I mean, this for me is fun time doing this
radio show. But I can guarantee you that the radio
stations are already looking at AI for replacing on air

(29:48):
talent people. It's it's out there. You look at what
they're able to do with videos and stuff. We're going
to be seeing sitcoms hitting tea in the next five
years that have no real actors in it. It is
going to be all AI generated. And that's the reason
the actors' unions and stuff like that are pitching such

(30:12):
a fit, because they're looking at eliminating those jobs. Those
are people who have run their salaries up so darn
high that it's it's unreal. I mean, give them their talent.
Their talents are due. But thirty million dollars to go
make a movie, are you kidding me? And I can

(30:34):
do it with AI and have just as much action
going and more. People got to start getting real about
what's going on.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
I wonder how that's going to affect the educational field
though I.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
Might be retiring.

Well that could be because I think it will affect
that field as well. Mark, I gotta let you go

we're trying to be convinced that, oh, it's not going
to be that bad. My personal opinion is, yeah, it

is going to be that bad because businesses are going
to look at what is going to be cost effective
to do, and as the cost of everything keeps going up,
it's a cost saving tactic to use more artificial intelligence. Uh.
They've got for answering the phones. And if you get

some body who's got two year old technology, you can
tell the difference between the two year old technology and
the stuff that's being installed today straight up. I tested
one out that I could not tell I was talking
to AI. It was unbelievable. They got systems that will

make the outgoing calls to confirm appointments, to set schedules
for going out and doing things you call into a
place of business. A lot of them are using AI
now to schedule appointments when you call in, and if
it gets into something very complicated, then the AI will

transfer you to a human. And it's not like the
stuff that the power company or the cable company that's
really a good one used. This is way beyond that Now,
working with your hands is not something AI is going
to be able to do. Granted, somewhere down the road

robotics is going to come out. But being able to
tear into the air conditioning system and figure out exactly
what's wrong, being able to go in and fix the
plumbing system, and stuff like that, I don't see that
changing anytime soon. But I do see a lot of

other types of jobs changing dramatically rapidly, and on air
talent it is actually one of them. Even when I
sit here and take calls and answer questions, all the
stuff that we talk about is stuff that, yes, it's
coming out of my head, it's not coming out of

what I'm reading or anything, but it can just as
easily be coming off Internet and stuff like that. And
let's be real, when we go searching for stuff, the
things that come up can easily be verbalized. And so
when AI can recognize the question you're asking, go and

pull information from online and be able to answer your question,
why would they not replace the on air people. Now,
I'm fortunate enough, I'm not a paid online person. I
do this because I enjoy it and I have fun
helping people. But I'm talking about a lot of the

other on air talent. It to me is a concern.
And like I said, movies and television shows and things
like that. You look at what the Big Bang Theory.
There was a series Friends, another series. Both of those

could have been done with AI actors. Because we've all
seen the stuff online that you can't tell if it's
real or not. They show it to you sixty minutes
has had it on there, Well, you can't tell if
that was the politician up there saying it or if
it was an AI. Think it is just a matter
of time for the first sitcom, the first drama series

whatever to come out that's no longer being done by actors.
And you saw Taylor Swift, she went and registered her
likeness of her sound and all that stuff. I would
highly recommend that if you are in the music business,
if you are an actor and things like that, you

do that because I think, my personal opinion is things
are about to change and change rapidly. Anyways, we probably
ought to go back into home improvement. So if you

I just noticed vertical cracking the wall in the front
corner of the house. No cracks, is the serious damage?
And should I get foundation inspection done? Please see pictures?

And I did look at the pictures. You got some
straight line cracks. They're coming up straight up, only about
six inches off the corner. When they lay brick on
a foundation, they put a membrane down so that things
can slide a little bit, and it kind of looks
like they missed going all the way to the corner
with yours because these lines that are cracking, they're not

(39:45):
the normal stair step that would be foundation movement. This
is stuff that's cracking straight up about four inches or
so off the corner. And it looks like it's just
because the brick is adhering to the concrete and as
the building materials expand and contract, they're allowing that line
to open up that way. Is it a serious problem,

I don't think.

You can have a brick mason come out and fix it,
and at the same time they can open up that
section between the brick and the foundation and put the
membrane in there. So that this doesn't happen again to you.

and that's the only one that does it. It's weird.

Uh, you can put a filter on that, would you know,

coming out of the water heater. But that that would
be about it.

old a water heater is it?

The water heater maybe it's about eight maybe eight years old.

if you told me it was less than two years old,
i'd tell you start flushing it after two years. It
really doesn't do any good to flush them because at
that point it's already built up in there and not
going to change. And I honestly I don't flush him
at my own house.

and you know, I used to do it. L I
heard you say, oh, you don't need to do it.
I said, well, okay, then I quit doing it. Yeah, okay,

to a cement base. I've got my walkway out in
front of my house that drops down from my house
to the streets about I don't know, three or four feet,
So there's a little ledgend, then a couple of steps
the ledge and a couple of steps. Anyway, the base
of it is regular cement and then on top. But

that is some nice tiles. They're probably free eight to
an inch in depth there. So anyway, they've come loose
a few of them from the cement below. And I'm
looking for what's the best feeling product to use. I
did a little reading it. They mentioned ten set mortar.
I'm just wondering if that's the way to go.

That is what you use on the outside. Uh, it's
it's available at the box stores, at floor and decre
uh in places like that.

Any any special tricks, Nope, Okay, just followed the Just
follow the recommendations and expect that down the road it'll
come loose again, especially when it's outside that way, because
our climate is just so rough, and concrete moves and
expands and contracts, the tile does as well at a

different rate and so they just tend to pop loose
over time.

Well they're staying to place for twenty years, so I've
been okay so far.

And you know, it's kind of funny because we we
use what's considered modern materials to put tile down, and
we get roughly twenty years out of it, and it'll

start coming loose. And you go and you look at
some of the stuff that the Romans did, and here's
all this beautiful tile work that's still there. The aquifers
are still there. Maybe not all our modern stuff isn't
always as good as as it's cracked up to be. Anyways,

exactly what can be done with it. Based on what

will tell you, if you're gonna build one that's over
four foot, it does require engineering because it's gonna have
a lot of back pressure and to do the engineering

some that are sixty foot, so yes, it can definitely

Well, I say no, you can put wood underneath there,
but it's still going to collect the dirt and dust.
I mean there is lines there that are open and
no matter what you do, it's going to collect the

Let's start, they're like they're like an ape to a

Take this roll of stuff that's that's.

Got Yeah, it's it's called jokes and then cock it. Yeah,
and you can do that, but it's typically not gonna
look real good. But absolutely you could do it and
and not thinking about it whether you want to do

it with cocking or that rubberized stuff that they put
between concrete panels, you know, like when the boards come out, Uh,
that's self leveling and you and it does come in
a cocking tube is one of the options. And you
could put that in there. You'd still want to pack
that york that yolked down in there first though, so

you're not having to feel as much cavity. But by
using that you would end up with a nice smooth
finish between the boards. It would be gray in color.
Are your boards treated or finished any kind?

Well, they've been stained before, but we're going to change
the color and everything.

Okay, so we'll paint it.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to paint the cocking or the stuff,
the expansion stuff that you would put in there, but
it could give it a kind of a different look
as far as the striping going down through there. And
like I said, if you use that expansion material, it's

self level, so it would be the nice smooth, clean
finish on there.

Well, heck, if I knew that, I would tell you
it's just a concrete expansion joint material. If you go
into even Low's and Home depot, they'll have it in
cocking tubes over near the concrete products.

So if you if you go underneath, instead of putting
the the uh screen material up against that floor against
those boards there, put it down below the choice that

And you can run your screen material on those boards.
And that would, for instance, if you had two by
six's underneath there, that gives it six inches for that

get the flies and mosquitoes coming in through through it.

Fantastic? I've got an issue of a couple of glass
shower doors and no, then they're not straight. The curved
ones that go up to you from the tubs of sealin. Yeah,
pretty heavy and they don't want to seem to stay
closed when you take a shower. When you close them,

within a few seconds they start opening up, both of
them from both ends about probably about six or eight
inches from each end. Okay, there's some kind of adjustment
on that to keep those things closer to the wall
or all the way open or.

Speaker 7 (01:07:26):
Well, it depends on the system itself, because some of
them you can actually tighten up a nut or a
bolt rather on the wheels that will give it some
tension to where it doesn't roll quite as easy.

Okay.

Others you just have to adjust the track so that
it stays up further. And some of them actually have
a rubber piece that the door will slide into that
can be pinched shut a little bit in order to
grip the door loo little bit when it's open. So
it all depends on the shower door that you got.

I got, Well, these are American standard. I'm I'm get
familiar with those.

Yeah, even even that has a lot of different choices,
but most of them it's going to be in the
in the rollers, and yes, the rollers are adjustable. It's
just a matter of getting it tilted enough to where
it stays going the right way on the rack. That's
on the top there, because that's what they roll on.

Okay, So I just at the top down to the bottom.

Yeah, yeah, because they they hang on and the rollers
and that's the reason they open on you. The rollers
are actually at the top at the bottom. It's just
hanging there.

is that as far as gordening gardening goes, I have
to sit on a sack of fertilizer to raise an umbrella.

I have a backyard and that consists of a patio
and a sidewalk and waters around on the peripher of
the backyard as it makes a beautiful thing made out
of these papers, which is four inch by eight inch
pavers uh, a fancy brick yep. And these pavers have

a bebyl on the on on this all the way
around on a little bebyle, which when you butt them together,
that creates about an eight inch space between the pavers
right at the top of the pavers and in the
same way like a ground in a bathtub area. I'm
looking for a ground that I can put in that

patio between on those patio papers. I've Jim Dunton, I've
used sand, I used weed killers by hand. I go
out there and work try to pull those weeds out,
and they're just I bet I've got ten miles of
of you know, covered. Those weeds come out of the

(01:12:30):
dirt comes out of the air, I guess, and the weeds,
like I'm looking, I'm looking for a modern crack filler
to fill in that space between those papers. Do you
have any ideas.

Will Are these just regular concrete or is it a colored.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
They're colored duve colored dub individual colored duve papers four
inch by eight inch. Okay, And there's the whole thing's
very pretty. Yeah nice, But the weeds grow wherever two
of those papers touched. And that's a whole lot of
touching out there on that thing. My god, I've spent
in my lifetime out there trying to keep the weeds out.

Speaker 7 (01:13:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:13:16):
Well, I try to pull them out, and hell, they
usually break off instead of coming out by roots.

Speaker 7 (01:13:21):
And I just, uh, you know, I'm assuming you try
to put weed killers on it, and I mean, I
know you have to reapply it probably every six months.

Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
But oh yes, I spent a lot of time and
behind that weed killers thing. I can't remember the name
of it, but yeah, a little wand that you use and.

Speaker 7 (01:13:38):
Like round up, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Yeah, round up. That's it. And I just thought maybe
there's some kind of a like in the bathtub with
the ground. I thought, well, maybe there's some stuff I
could put, you know, on all that's all those between
those papers.

Speaker 7 (01:13:56):
There is stuff you can put in between with a
stabilized sand and stuff like like that. But the problem
is the weeds will still grow in it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
Yeah, yes, sir, I've you saying before. And yeah, also
either kind of wash out over time yep.

Speaker 7 (01:14:10):
Well, the stabilized won't because it's got cement based or
cement mixed in with it, Portland cement. But uh, it's
still it's so porous that it's still going to grow
weeds in it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
Something I got to just learn to live with. Yeah,
and stabilized what do you call it?

Speaker 7 (01:14:32):
Stabilized stabilized sand? Yeah, basically all it is is sand
that's got Portland cement mixed in with.

Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
It, Okay, and I can get that home deep over.

Speaker 7 (01:14:42):
Now, you mix it yourself. You get the sand and
you get to Portland and you mix it together.

Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (01:14:48):
A normal mixture is going to be like, uh, one
part Portland to five parts sand.

Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Okay, one one seat to five sand yep. Okay. And
uh and then and then and then that'll be a
liquid or semi liquid and.

Speaker 7 (01:15:08):
Just mix it dry and broom it into those grooves.

Speaker 3 (01:15:12):
Oh, mix it dry yep, and then sweep it into
those grooves yep. And then then win it and it'll
set up. I think I'll give that a try.

Now, Like I said, it's still gonna grow weeds, but
it should cut down on them.

Well, it's got to cut down a little bit. It's

Got a two story house that I think maybe the
contractor fifty years ago was running out of money because
he put cheap brick on it. And it's a good
looking house, but the brick is starting to change colors,
especially on the south side where the sun is showing
on the brick. Is there I hate to look at

(01:16:23):
some of these houses where they paint the whole house
one solid color. Is there anything you can do to
resurface brick like that that looks good?

Speaker 7 (01:16:36):
I'm gonna give you two options. One option is called
a German schmear, and basically a masonry repair company can
come out and they mix up a masonry slurry that
they can spread on the siding or on the brick

(01:16:57):
rather uh. And it can have color in to it
and it it. It can totally change the looks of
a place. I did a story with a guy one
time who did a house that had pink brick and
to be blunt, it was just god awful ugly, and

(01:17:19):
the homeowner wanted to change it, and so they put
this smear on it and and made it nice and
smooth and everything and went with kind of a tan
tint into that. It looked gorgeous when it was done,
very very upscale. Made the place look a lot larger.
So that would be one option.

The other German smear smear okay, okay, uh.

The other option, Uh, I agree with you. I hate
painting brick because it peels off. You hear me talk
about a product, In fact, they're coming up here. You
hear me talk about a product called rhino Shield, and
it is a breathable product where paint doesn't let moisture

(01:18:09):
go through it. Rhino shield will so if moisture gets
in the brick, instead of it peeling the paint off,
it'll let it escape out. And they can mix the
colors together on there so that you're not stuck with
everything being just one solid color, so you can do
the wall in one color and trim around the windows

(01:18:30):
and doors in something else. So it is an option.
But for what you were just describing to me, I
think that German smear would be more what you're looking for.

would do it. I'm not sure if mister Brick does it,

it's got elasticity to it, so it can stretch and
stuff as the building materials expand and contract and again
I talked about. It comes with a twenty five year warranty.

Mexican brick on my home and my house is built

you know this is the time of year a lot

of people are buying and selling and stuff, and so
we'll address this here for just a quick second. He says,
I filled out this form last week about home inspections.
Do you know a trusted home inspection expert? My sister
passed away and I need need to have her home inspected.

(01:25:02):
Who would you recommend? You can email me or text me.
I would really appreciate your help. Well, look, home inspectors
are very isolated to areas. They don't really travel even
across the city very well. So I don't really have
any that I can recommend simply because of how isolated

(01:25:25):
they are. But I will tell you typically just because
you're going to sell house, don't need to get a
home inspection done. Go through the house and look at
what the house has. If you got broken windows, fix them,
that's going to flag on the home inspection. If you've
got outlets that don't hold a chord right, that's going

(01:25:50):
to flag. You got light fixtures that aren't right, things
like that, dripping faucets, garbage disposals not working, the microwaves
not working, the exhaust fans aren't working. That's all stuff
that gets flagged. The problem that you got to be
aware of with home inspections when they come in and
do an inspection. I mentioned my house built in nineteen

(01:26:13):
seventy three. I was built to nineteen seventy three standards.
When a home inspector comes in, he's inspecting it based
on twenty twenty six standards, and so it's not going
to meet all the standards, and nor does anybody really

(01:26:34):
expect it to. Now, granted, if there's something that if
the air conditioner's not working or something like that, yes,
that needs to be fixed. But what they'll come in
sometimes with is my house, for instance, has aluminum wiring.
This home has aluminum wiring, doesn't meet code, should be upgraded.

(01:26:58):
I'm not changing out the aluminum wiring. That's not just
an upgrade. That's a major redo of stuff, and nor
does the law require that. Now, if you're going to
be selling the house, yes you may have people who
question it. Okay, so you got to discount it some

(01:27:21):
I can guarantee you on something like going from aluminum
wiring to copper. How you're not discounting it enough to
justify the cost of that upgrade. So you got to
look at the reports with a grain of salt and
work around them somewhat. If you want to get a
home inspection report, they're not that expensive. And some home

(01:27:45):
inspectors they are up on it, they know what they're doing.
Others they learned it all in the book and don't
have a clue what the heck they're looking at. So
it's one of those things that are tough. But if
you want to find a local home inspector that can
help you out call a local realtor. They'll have a

(01:28:07):
list of several that they use and they'll be able
to get you taken care of that way. Got a
