(00:03):

Arry Show is on the air, well rough evening nowhere around then let this
(00:27):
watch over you and we will talkabout it. Happy happy day, when
(00:49):
Jo's war, when he war, when Geo's she is away love happy day?
(01:10):
Or have you ded he happy?Or happy dad? When Jesus war
a witty war, when Jesus warsheel the way he loved. It's a
(01:36):
happy day, happy day, ora happy day when those wars, oh
(02:24):
whitty war, when those war threeyears away? He a happy day,
(03:17):
happy, oh, happy day.I see. Well, let me cut
(04:30):
in a little early this week.Last night and this morning reminded me of
I don't want to say fondest memories, but in the way they are most
most rewarding memories. Forgive me,folks outside of Houston. This is going
to be a very Houston area focusedshow. We had a massive tornado come
(04:55):
through and we had a lot Wasthat our power just kicking back on?
We were on generator power here atthe studio. I think our electric just
came up. My wife told meit's more than there were a million people
who lost their power. But whenI think back, ramon on those We
literally lived at the studio, allof us, the reporters, the anchors,
(05:18):
everybody lived at the studio, andyou'd be on for ten or twelve
hours, and then you would goeat whatever food was in the fridge or
someone had been able to procure, and then you would sleep on a sleeping
bag on the floor and then getback up and good. It wasn't being
(05:39):
alignment. I'm not saying it was. It wasn't being in war. It
wasn't digging out ditches or anything ofthe sort. But it was a memory
and it felt like we were thehub. We were because this station is
of knowledge and connection for people inthe area. That is one of the
(06:00):
things that I will most remember ofdoing what we do. So we're going
to open the phone lines today toyour stories of what happened last night and
whatever experience you had. Are yougetting an odd sound from my mic?
I don't know what what has causedthis. I don't know if I've turned
(06:23):
it up. Oh that's what itwas. I turned that up. We
had to recalibrate everything because of thepower outage, but we have a generator,
so we thought maybe we didn't losea thing. Now at home.
We had windows busted out and allthat sort of stuff. But anyway,
we'll talk about all that in time. Seven one three, one thousand.
(06:46):
I don't want to go now withthe we can review because I'll have to
cut it short, so I'll doit in the next segment seven one three,
nine nine nine one thousand. I'dlike to hear your stories for those
of you who were out. Igot an email from a guy this week
and he said it was a groupthat had come into the restaurant where he
was, and they were wearing ashirt that it looked like was for a
university, but he didn't recognize it, and they'd gone to Lineman School,
(07:11):
and those guys were the Linemen. One of one of my favorite memories after
a big storm is they'll take thisphoto of all the power trucks coming down
the highway. Boy, you don'tyou don't think about alignment until the power
goes down, because I'll tell youwhat, you'll go out there and give
a kidney if he'll just put yourhouse next to get your How quickly it
(07:36):
all falls apart when you don't haveelectricity, I mean how quickly We got
emails some of our employees of ourstation. One person at the front of
their house, in front of theirtown home in the heights blown off.
It just it looks like a bombwent perpendicular to the to the house.
(07:58):
You can just see right in toit. The whole front of it was
taken off. I always dread abig incident like this because we have so
many I love trees. Trees giveme peace. I grew up in the
trees. We've always tried to finda house that has lots of trees.
That's why Lewis Floury with the abilitytree service is always at my house.
(08:20):
Is because I don't want to loseany trees. I want my trees pampered.
I love my trees, but duringhigh winds, those trees become a
mixed blessing for sure. All right, seven one, three, nine,
one thousand, will get your callson in just a moment. If you
(08:41):
need trees removed, if you needroofwork, if you need anything today.
Obviously, Generator Supercenter can't put yourgenerator in today. I did get a
lot of emails from people, includingRussell Leabarr. I said, sure,
I'm enjoying my generator. I'll beglad to connect you with folks. Email
me the Michael Berry Show sixteen alarmclock won't stop going. I'll stumble to
(09:11):
the same, try to think.Fill the coffee, pot coffee, Get
the sleepy heads out of bed,get them fed, get them dressed,
hurry up, get your stuff inthe truck. Blow them both to kiss
when you drop them off. Bykids. It feels died the month of
(09:33):
Mondays since I had a break.Sometimes to tell myself when I had all
I could take Fridays come in justlike that, It's gonna come back and
round. Gotta keep on run in. I can't let trouble. Run me
(09:54):
in the drown out ready and feelthat feeling nothing A dude. Our friend,
Fasel Punawala, who owns Spring BranchMedical Supply, sent me an email
just after midnight. I just returnedhome from doing a drive up and down
I ten between six' ten theWest Loop and belt Way eight the West
Belt with a friend named Robert. He's lived around these parts about sixty years.
(10:20):
He said. The last time heremembers things looking this bad after a
storm was Alicia in eighty three.I was born in February of that year,
and I can't say I recall anythingof the event. However, to
hear Robert say what he said, and he's not a man who exaggerates,
I knew this was something on anotherlevel. Helpe, you and your family
are all right, Fasel Puna WallaSpring Branch Medical Supply. I have been
(10:43):
reviewing emails that I'm getting from allsorts of folks, and I don't get
a good sense of where exactly itwas located. But there's power there,
or the email says the towers aredown, but I can't see that the
towers are down in this particular email. But anyway, I guess we'll get
(11:09):
to your calls because some of thesephotos need some context to get a sense
of how bad it really is.But you can tell some bad things happened
yesterday evening in about the six o'clockhour. We'll start with Rodney and we'll
go all the way down seven one, three, nine, nine, one
thousand. You can email me throughthe website Michael at Michael Berryshow dot com
(11:30):
or just Michael Berryshow dot com.Rodney, what you got, good morning.
I came back from Victoria. Ihit the George R. Brown at
about five thirty yesterday. You couldn'tget off the highway. You couldn't change
lanes. I got on ten,got you just in a city and that
thing hit and I've never fixed concerneddriving of me hit pulling it out me
(11:52):
and it was blowing. It wasvery bad and a lot of damage out
there. Were were out working withthe miasking mitigation business and that's what we
do, and uh, we're outopen our clients right now. And it
was very bad, serious it was. I. Uh, I didn't see
(12:18):
this coming. I hadn't heard anythingabout it, and and then once I
start, you know, obviously,it was a bit shocking for all,
for me anyway, I don't knowif maybe some of y'all had some inkling,
no idea. It went from tornadowarning to full blast in just a
couple of minutes. And uh,and I think that was was rattling for
a lot of people. Diana, you're only Michael Berry show go ahead,
(12:43):
Hi, Michael. We drove homeyesterday from Texas A and then we decided
not to stay for the baseball gameand we drove right through the middle of
that mess. I had no ideahow bad it was going to be,
and it was worse. I toldTim when we were driving, I said,
I feel like I'm driving through HurricaneIke. There was free all over
the road. We got through Hympsteadto Waller and stopped at Bucky's to find
(13:05):
out that a good friend in Wallerlost. They lost every oak tree that
they had in their yard, oldtrees. They had one that fell on
the front part of their home.Fortunately it didn't, you know, they
didn't have as much. They havea lot of damage, but not as
devastating as it could have been hadthat tree completely fallen on their home.
But it was bad. We haveone tree uprooted in our backyard. We're
(13:28):
living Jersey Village. Front part ofthe village was really really bad. They
had tornadoes out in that area.As far as you know, vegetation trees
and stuff go, but it wasit was as horrible, terrible. The
mayor of Hunter's Creek, Jimmy Pappus, just sent an email to all of
(13:48):
their citizens. He has an emailblast. I get a lot of these
police and in municipal emails. Idon't always get to read them, but
obviously I am today because of this. He says, well, that was
interesting. I've been here fifty yearsand I've never seen such extensive damage as
occurred last night that keeps coming uppeople saying that this is the worst thing.
(14:11):
I guess in my mind because ofHarvey, I still think of flooding
and what flooding does, and obviouslythis is a whole different kind of event,
but the damage, as the photosare coming in. Thankfully, there
were no injuries reported and everyone issafe. This is in his particular community,
and this is at about Voss andIten just south of it ten let's
(14:37):
say Voss going down to about samPhillippi and over so just west of Tanglewood
is where this community is. Thankfully, no injuries reported. Everyone is safe.
West Houston and most of Houston isa total mess, but that can
be cleaned up. Please check upon elderly neighbors as needed, and help
where you can. As our policechief has reported on this email, both
(14:58):
more Oral Villages Police Department and Iguess That's Village fire department crews were busy
all night clearing roads and assisting residentswith gas and water leaks all over the
villages. Several reports of tornadoes seenby residents, and although this was bad,
it could have been much worse hadthey touched down power remains out all
over and several power lines are down. Stay away from them regardless of where
(15:22):
they are, and Centerpoint is awareof their location by the way, you
see. First thing my wife tellsme. She wakes me up this morning,
Center Point had the windows of theirdowntown building blown out. She says,
you can't do that to this entnerPoint. Also, if you smell
gas, please call the popo andget away from the area affected. We
have arranged with our super County Commissioner, Tom Ramsey to have county crews out
(15:43):
to pick up the debris over thecoming days. Pull limbs and storm debris
out to the curb so they canpick it up. Please cut up any
large branches so they can be pickedup by the crews. No huge branches,
cut them into smaller pieces. Pleaseonly storm related items will be picked
up. New too many power linesbeing down and polls broken all over due
to falling trees. It's difficult tosay when power will be back on,
(16:04):
so please be patient. Centerpoint isgiving us their full attention here and repeated
calls won't help. They know wherethe power is out and we're working with
and are working with haste to getit back on. Wish you had that
generator now, don't you. Iknow everyone wants to drive around and assess
the damage, but if possible, please stay off the roads. Down wires,
hanging limbs and potential of continued treefalling makes it dangerous and we need
(16:27):
to give repair crews as much roomas possible. Great opportunity for kids out
of school to make easy money cleaningup debris for neighbors. I did it
after Alicia, easy summer money, and this damage is far worse. Again.
Stack your debris out at the curbslash edge of your property where debris
crews can access as easily as possible. And the smaller the limbs the better.
(16:47):
Okay, that's it. I'll forwardany pertinent news as I find out.
Thankful no one got hurt and wewill clean this up. Jim Pappus,
mayor of Hunter's Creek. Uh,let's go to Robert. Robert,
you're on the Michael Berry Show.Hey, how are you doing today?
(17:07):
But had an interesting night last night, got the tornado warning watch and within
five minutes the sky over my houseto completely green looking. It was really
kind of creepy. I'm over ona highway sixth and West road. Okay,
So me and my wife and mythree cats and my dog all hummeled
(17:30):
into the downstairs bathroom, locked yourselvesin. And that was pretty interesting because
it's like a small, enclosed space. But we heard everything blowing around.
This is going over. After everythingwent out, we lost power and all
that good stuff. And looking aroundtoday, I've got neighbors trees down in
their house. I've got uh goingup and down West road. Trees are
(17:53):
all over the road. There's debriseverywhere. I just got it. I
just got a list of uh,the villages. The same mayor forwarded this
to me, and it is ofjust in the villages, which is that
area south of I ten so aboutVoss on both sides, going down to
(18:14):
about Sam Philippe. So I don'tI don't know exactly how many residents that
is, but that's kind of thatswathe. And it was all the down
trees and down power lines, theroads with down power lines in down trees,
and it was it was. It'sa mess. I mean, it
is an absolute and utter mess. And it's true. You can't sit around
and wait on on power cruise.People are gonna have to get out there
(18:36):
and get those those those limbs outof the way. In fact, the
way the way we used to doit the Michael Berry Show. I am
aligning for the county and I drivethe main road, searching in the sun
(19:07):
form of the I hear you singingin the why I can give you the
wine and the witch. A tallline is still on the line. Let's
(19:42):
go to homeless Victor. I needa small by Thomas Victor. Yeah,
Michael, Hey, bud, howdid how did you fare well being a
bilger? All right? We gotstraight? We a cat stayed up while
we're closer. Thing we loft withthe tarps on the top. They don't
(20:02):
put his back up yesterday morning, this morning he got it off. I
pulled my mom back up, handingover to the corner. But I'm out
now, Hey, can you canyou turn that down in the background,
Victory, it's giving us bad feedback? Okay, yeah, let me kill
you got the whole show right hereon your line. Uh okay, So
y'all under your tarp? Did youhave your tarp tied down? Now?
(20:25):
They were stay down with small sitethrough the small state that I put it
in a go out where they saythey stayed there until the right up to
the end of the of the Starwhen they worked through. But there's just
both everything down around around us,all the weeds just af but the Trent
copied. We didn't. We didn'tget any more to inside. We didn't
lose nothing, no clothes, noequipment on the thing. So I can't
(20:45):
imagine that picture. I am shockedby that. I'm not. I don't
want to say exactly where you arebecause I don't want to put you in
danger, but let's just say roughly, you're at the West Loop and memory.
Well we'll leave it there, butthat that area was hit hard.
Victor, there was n gave youannouncement. I was listening to you on
(21:07):
the radio. Yes, and thenthey came over and go wh what and
but time he said, car night, that's where they're started. You're hitting
up and all of a sudden, like the short rocking and stuff and the
lights and something like ta bucking around. But it was kind of it was
kind of cool. But I don'tdo that too many times, so so
let me be let me be clear, let me be So you're sleeping under
(21:30):
a tarp, not a tent, right, so you're not air tight.
No, we got chain up thenwe put the cork over them. Okay,
So you got to tarp over yourtent. Okay. And and y'all
didn't take any rain into your tent, not one duck. Wow, we
stay bunk. By the way, that number you gave me the other day,
(21:52):
I've tried you ten times since then. When I'm in the area,
that number you gave me is notworking. Oh it made me tell I
have my phone turned off when I'mover the corner. Yeah, because I
get a lot of plank the jobscam calls. Yeah, that cock,
they'll run my body, just cockercalling me. I got you, idn't
leave it alone. Then as soonas I get started, once I got
(22:12):
the corner, I'll tell my phoneback if checked my my calls? Do
you do? Do you know howto text? Yeah? I get texted
right. Well, then I'll sendyou a text next to hey, yeah
if you if you came did that, y'all. Y'all are under a bunch
of trees. Y'all didn't have limbsfalling and all that were. No,
(22:33):
there's not a tree over. Wegot trees around and look kind of like
a little glove with trees down there. Okay, y'all just takes heavy,
y'all. But y'all know Muscardie buysgoing aut cado, go my muskedize and
lay it all over the ground. Now yeah, he make some musket down.
Oh now you talking? Wow?So you didn't lose anything, You're
(22:55):
good. All they do was fullthe steak time cart. We got hit,
but you could see the cap whenI was just side. They was
hitting it so hard it was bendingthe poles right. But they were never
let up. But we never letup in the temp step right back up
like you smoke to wow wowing thatday. Yeah, I was test everything
(23:18):
there was to do, So Itold Bill it was. He looks to
me. I said, all right, I gotta dropping my tip and well,
Bill, I'm gonna tell you somethinghe got and I'm glad you put
your chail up and telling me.I said, yeah, Papa's Bill guy.
We were lucky we didn't he likePama. Some of the people downtown
that shopping in the tents, andI don't think they were prepared for that.
(23:41):
No is is Bill, the sixtyeight year old marine. You told
me about your worried about h Yes, sorry, yes, sir, So
yeah he was mills. Yeah,he's going bad. He went to the
over to the ba. He's tryingto hear the slow tapping. Some church
wanted take it off place for himto live. Okay, you're gonna lose
(24:02):
your buddy when he moves out.Okay, I'll give me a dog right
now. I'm trying to find mea puff of the race, you know,
so I got something to run aroundmy paint. He had a dog
in Loscow. Somebody ripped him off, stole his dog from him. Who
steals a dog, homeless guy?I don't know. He really put building
(24:22):
a bare tail. Say, hewas a real emotional by it. Every
time he try to talk about it, he started crying over because he dog.
Yeah, that's a love life.That ain't dirt. That's a lord
life. Now, just like homelesspeople, Stephen brother Homer and that's just
the mother white people to do stufflike that. Man, I mean the
(24:45):
situation inituait the life. There's allthree people steal from each other. That's
why when we put up, Idon't put up where my camps can be
fought by other people. So you'reyou're at Memorial and uh six' ten
at that corner trick chair. Y'allright. Basically you're right at the intrant.
(25:08):
You're right at the entrance to theHouston Polo Club, right right shod
little corner, but it's just yourlong got that bigger home train to set
up under her a great corner. There used to be a guy who was
one block south of you, andhe would be on the south last corner
(25:30):
under the underpass named spider Man.But I got spider Man. That's it.
You have a seat, spide Man, No Grema, yeah, I
see you my day, No babathe blast all might. He didn't look
real well, I love his pastor what not. They did not look
real well. Oh really yeah.He did not look well. Oh he
(25:52):
had a racket going victory. Imean he would he would shot your job
and point and smile, and hehad his I'm spider Man. He was
you know, nobody was scared ofor worried about it over he loved you
because he didn't look like he didn'thave that going when I carried after.
When I seen the last time backin November, he was well, he
(26:14):
really, like I said, helooked really stickly, like yeah eat no
well or something like an He wouldn'tcarry many extra pounds. Anyway, Victor,
do you need anything on the phone? I cann you some campoo if
you rub oh Rabbi only punking beadslike got peeve collar breed o, Why
(26:37):
got I? Michael Jar. I'msure somebody's going to bring it back right.
You're listening to Michael Berry the scullOut, waiting for all the fall
out on a night into the rockymountain with job a wind by the snow,
(27:11):
watching for the stall I'm thinking makingwhat I miss in the city and
now I miss in a thing walkingthe bullmoon bliss in the range Lye down
the stall Out Ride are a stallout down the stall Out. Before O
(27:40):
Reo Speedwagon made Silly Love Song, they were actually a guitar driven hard rocking
band, and that's them. Igot an email from the guy my wife
and I jokingly call Mike Glass andhe's in on the too, because you
(28:00):
remember the story years ago. Mywife said, hey, you mind if
I call Mike Glass to replace theglass on that window. And I said,
who Mike Glass? Who is that? Well, coincidentally the guy who
does our glass. I said, that's Mike Silva. She said, no,
(28:22):
it's Mike Glass. Look, sheshows me her phone, because if
it's if it says Mike Glass theway she entered it in her phone,
that has to be his name.Right. I fell out. I fell
out laughing. I said, sweetheart, his name is Mike Silva Silva,
It's not Mike Glass. We finallydeduced that she would have gotten his name
(28:45):
in number at one point when hewas done a lot of glass work for
us over the years. Mind you, we lived in a house that was
all glass. I mean it wasalmost entirely the extra is like a downtown
office building, but it was builtby a commercial architect. It was my
dream home. And so as youcan imagine, you have a lot of
glass work done in our studio.I wanted a glass rail to border our
(29:12):
stairs. Ramon's got little kids,so when the kids came in, I
didn't want to worry that they weregoing to fall off the side of the
stairs, So we had a glasswall put up the side of there.
We had to replace all the glassdownstairs in our studio, big glass with
frosted glass. Halfway. I mean, he does a lot of glass for
us. He's kind of half familyat this point. So anyway, Mike
(29:32):
Glass sends me a message. DowntownHouston after Hurricane Alicia looked like a war
zone, mainly because of the gravelroofs on many of the high rises.
I didn't think about that all thatgravel on top of those vortex winds with
gravel of different size peppered those buildings, leaving hundreds of panes of glass broken.
(29:55):
Thus, vinyl roofs became the commonsense for placement. Yesterday's winds,
combined with the typical vortex effect, may have literally sucked the glass out of
each frame, along with debris flyingaround. And I thought that's all good,
But I wonder if my wife's calledhim about that busted out window in
(30:17):
our house. I'm on the wayto replace that broken window at your house.
Who that was? I mean,I'm I'm grateful for the insight,
Don't get me wrong, but I'mreally glad he's on his way. If
you need somebody for your house,or you need something, you lost a
vehicle, I'm getting pictures of people'svehicles that trees landed on them. Email
(30:41):
me through the website Michael Berryshow dotcom, and I will put you in
direct contact with the people. Whetherit's roofing or windows or most any other
thing. Just be a little patient. Yeah, I got more emails.
But let's go to the cost.Let's go to ed. I'm sorry,
Let's go to Robert freezer full offood. Robert. Hey, Michael,
(31:04):
Robert here in camp Logan. Allright, I have a three door freezer
full of lamb and I've lost power. I need to give it away before
it goes bad. Okay, I'msorry, I hit my volume button while
you were talking. Say that again. You have what? I have a
(31:26):
three door commercial freezer full of lamb. I'm located in Camp Logan. Next,
Yes, well, where's the lambfrom. It's from my ranch in
Central Texas. It's from Central Texas. Lamb, You're not Ramone. And
(31:48):
I were talking to Michael Sambrooks, the owner of the Pit Room, yesterday.
He's got a new location out westat Beltway and we were talking about
lamb and he was talking about exoticmeats and non traditional you know, other
than pork, chicken and beef andI and he said, uh, which
(32:12):
about venison because he has venison onit. And I said, to people
complain that venison is dry, andhe said, yes, I like my
venison dry, but nobody else does. So we were talking about how much
pork you got to put in andall that. We were talking about lamb.
Uh, you're not giving I justwant to be clear. You're not
giving away the freezer. You justwant somebody to come and pick it up
and take it so and go toway just to freeze or pull lamb.
(32:34):
So I have about ten or twelvemeat boxes of various cuts, and I'm
in my ranch right now. Ithink gates will I'll be home later with
a generator. But by the timeI get home movie too late. So
is somebody there right now? Ohyeah, my wife's all right. So
(32:54):
you just want them to come andpick it up. Yeah, and once
the from the doors. Yeah,I got the doors closed. I got
to Oakland. They need to geteverything. Yeah, all right, I'll
tell you what. I'm going toput you on hold and get your get
your numbers, because I'm sure there'ssomebody I would do. I would do
(33:15):
it myself if I wasn't in thestudio, just because we eat a lot
of lamb and I love lamb. But hold just a moment. I'll get
your your name, your address, and your email, and we'll have them
coordinate with you because I don't wantto give out your Actually I don't want
your address, I just want youryour number. I always worry about things
like that. Thanks Robert, Let'sgo to ed Ed. You're on the
Michael Berry Show. Let's say yousir. Yes, I was at my
(33:39):
daughter's house last night, celebrating herat thirtieth Pork. They she lives over
in bunker Hill Village and uh,you know, around six o'clock it all
broke loose and it was tree lambseverywhere. I went to high school with
Jimmy Baptist and was living in thatneighborhood helping cut trees. Back then,
(34:00):
it was worse than Alicia yesterday. So about ten o'clock I finally get through
cutting down tree limbs out of mydaughter's driveway so she could get them out
and head back to our live inGettings. I was heading back to Gettings
and going out to ninety hit Wallerand I couldn't believe my eyes. BUCkies
(34:22):
there in Waller was packed full,I mean cars on the road. The
one space in the parking lot.BUCkies became the shelter that night for I
guess people didn't have homes to goto. It makes perfect sense. Gas
(34:44):
and food, and I would givea shout out. They had all their
staff there cooking food last night atten o'clock and helping people and getting it
all done. You know the holdthat thought, a lot of people lose
their appetite in times of stress, not me at a moment like I,
(35:05):
I have no one of them saucysandwiches, sir, you had six were
trying to. I don't think anybodyelse got is hungry. I'm nervous.
I'm nervous, and I need thiscalms my nerves. All right, Phone
lines are open. Seven one threenine nine nine one thousand. We'll go
back to that guy because I didn'tlet him finish. Seven one three nine
nine nine one thousand,
