Speaker 1 (00:03):
It's that time time time time lucking load.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
So Michael Very show is on the air, night's cooking
in the mic. We gotta feeding bed. I don't plan
to shave, and it's you've the thing, but I just
gotta see it. I'm doing all right. We'll, I'm mixing spots.
(00:36):
I'm beating very good. And that's the truth. It's either
drink nor drug and noo, I'm just doing all right.
It's your dad.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
And no.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Sun still shining on a close my eyes. It's hot
times in the neighborhood. The biking every day. Will it's
December first, you know what that means. Every morning I
(01:13):
start the show, I start my day. The first email
I open is from Marcus Latrell, and it's usually very
early in the morning because he gets up very early.
When you don't drink, you can do that. You get up,
you're all fired up, you got your coffee, excited about
the day. Nothing hurts you know, yeah, you haven't eating
(01:35):
for forty days. And it's usually something about staying hard,
staying tough, staying strong, making the most of the day,
you know, something to that effect. But today it was
a little bit out of character. He calls me radio,
and he says, good morning radio, Rise and shine. It's
(01:57):
the Christmas season and are you ready for this? Three
exclamation marks? Ramo, you do know what I understand? Marcus
the troll does not use exclamation marks unless he's asking
if their calms are up because they need to get
you know, evacuated out of the valley or off the mountain.
(02:18):
This is a very When Marcus is excited about the
Christmas season, we are filling it. And then it's nice
and cold outside. You got the rain. This is London weather.
This is the Christmas season. I mean, this is the
way it's supposed to be. We went to the zoo
(02:39):
last week and I walk in and there is a
loaf of rainbow and I asked the zookie, I said,
what is that? He said, that's bread. In Captivity, there
(03:00):
was a terrible fall from the nineteenth floor of a
downtown office building last week and unfortunately did not end well.
It's a nightclub, apparently downtown nightclub, and they have not
determined yet who it was. They worked for the nightclub,
(03:22):
but they know it's not the bouncer. Forty seven of
the four hundred and thirty five members of Congress have
already announced that they will not be coming back because
voters have shot them down, although some will do that preemptively,
(03:44):
but because they are choosing not to run for reelection.
One of those is Morgan Latrelle aforementioned Marcus Attrell's twin brother, Mojo,
will not be running for reelection, so that will be
an open seat. Wesley Hunt will not be running for
his House re election because he is of course running
(04:07):
for the Senate. And over the weekend the news broke
that sugar Lands Troy Nails will not be running. His
twin brother, Trevor, I believe will be. Troy Neils will
be our guest in just a few moments to talk
about that. But first, as we reconsider who the members
(04:28):
of the Congress will be. With a number of issues
before us in a slim majority for Republicans, if Democrats
take the House, the president's agenda will stall. First things
first is redistricting. We need maps that are race blind,
that are actually fair, and the President pushed and we
got it through the state legislature. And then and then
(04:53):
the Aco of the not Laarasa, what's the damned organization?
LULAC filed suit. Well now, CBS News reports it went
to the Supreme Court and Justice Alito, who is over
the redistricting case. He is our circuit judge has overruled that,
so we will keep the maps as they were recently drawn.
(05:15):
That story from CBS News.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
The Texas redistricting case which is now at the US
Supreme Court, the justices will decide the fate of the
highly fought over congressional maps in the Lone Star state.
Justice Samuel Alito already gave Texas Republicans a partial victory
when he granted an administrative stay in the case November
twenty first. That set aside a ruling by two federal
(05:37):
judges in Texas who blocked the twenty twenty five maps
after concluding Texas Republicans illegally racially gerrymannered the districts so
they could potentially win up to five extra seats in
next year's midterm elections. As a result of Justice Alito's action,
the twenty twenty five maps are in place for now,
and the Supreme Court could extend their administry of stay.
(06:01):
I spoke with doctor Bill Chris, a legal and political
historian in Texas, about the next steps, what they mean,
and whether the December eighth, deadline for candidates to file
their campaign paperwork still matters.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
At this point, it doesn't really matter, because it's as
if the order of the Federal Court in Opaso doesn't
exist unless and until the Supreme Court does something different,
either by way of confirming Justice Alito's stay or by
way of deciding the case, the stay is in effect.
(06:36):
And so as things sit right now, the districts that
were carved up by the legislature in special session this
summer are the districts that people will run in, and
so it is now squarely the ball is squarely in
the Supreme Court's corner for them to decide what to do.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
And so you're saying that December eighth, at this point,
the December a filing deadline is not a hurdle because
the twenty twenty five maps are in place, and unless
that changes, all the candidates who are filing should actually
be thinking about.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
The new maps. Yep, that's the law.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
I mean, the law of the case at this point
is that there was a preliminary injunction issued by the
District Court in Elpaso that prelimited which threw out the
new maps and reinstated the old maps, and they're legal
questions about whether the Court even had the authority to
reinstate the old maps. But setting that aside, that preliminary injunction,
(07:39):
which is not a final judgment, that preliminary injunction went
up on appeal to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme
Court has undone or stayed, not undone, but stayed, which
is to say, prevented the application of that preliminary injunction.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Do you think that the Court will come out and say, hey,
go with the maps that are in go with the
twenty twenty five maps of the legislature. I mean some
clear signal that that's okay.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
To do well.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
A clear signal would be an extension of Justice Alito's
stay supported by a majority of the members of the
Supreme Court. If that were to come out, and that
could come out, you know, next week, if that were
to come out, I think it's fairly safe. I think
legal commentators would agree.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Michael American, I've been announcing almost fifty that they will
not be seeking re election to their congressional seat for
various reasons running for the Senate. In the case of
Wesley Hunt running for the Attorney General's Office in the
case of Chip Royd, but twenty two of them retiring outright,
(08:53):
including a greater Houston area in North Houston areas, Morgan Latrelle,
and Southwest Houston areas. Troy Nels. Who's our guest. Welcome
to the program. Congressman.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
I've been more than Michael good to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
So obviously, most folks like Nancy plos to get to Washington, DC,
and you can't get them out of there. You're a
relatively young man, only fifty seven.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Why do you want to leave, well, fifty seven with
a thirteen year old there you go. No, I've been
up there six years.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
You know.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
I've started in public service going back over thirty years.
I was first elected in a precinct and fort been
coming back in two thousand and four. And I've enjoyed
my time in public service. But I've always said in
our philosophy and my congressional office is always family first.
It's always family first and job second. And I believe
(09:48):
that you can be a very effective member of Congress
and still have your family first. And so that's been
my philosophy. But just spending time. My beautiful wife just
retired less than six months ago, thirty years in public education.
So I just just you know, I got a thirteen
year old and when the government was shut down, you know,
(10:09):
taking her to school and everything, I just said, you
know what I need to I need to just step
back here and and just leave Congress. But I'm not
I'm not doing what Marjorie did. I mean, I'm not
leaving an open See. I'm fulfilling my obligation and my term,
and I'll leave Congress in thirteen months.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
How is Congress different than you expected it? And what
about Congress would surprise the average American taxpayer who watches
the news? What would surprise folks?
Speaker 3 (10:41):
I would probably say some of the biggest challenges up here.
It is so hard to really get anything done, even
things that you would think we should be so simple,
especially you know, when we have a unified government so
to speak. We got the House, we have the Senate,
and we have the White House up here in DC now.
And I brought my wife with me because Michael I
(11:03):
got my first bill through Congress, my first bill that
the President will be signing at four pm tonight. It's
called the Medal of Honor Act. There's sixty one currently
sixty one Medal of Honor recipients that are still alive today,
and they were getting a monthly pension at about fifteen
hundred dollars. I mean, we give more to illegals. And
so I said, this is ridiculous. We know that there
(11:26):
have been Medal of Honor recipients that have filed for bankruptcy.
So a gentleman named Leroy Cisco brought this to my
attention and I said, Leroy, I'm going to draft the legislation. Now,
this started when I was in my first term. It's
taken me five years to actually get the House and
the Senate to do something good for a Medal of
Honor recipient. The point is is that nothing up here
(11:48):
moves quick. It's slow, and it almost it appears like
you have to You have to have a relationship with
the chairman, the guys that have the gabble, the chairs
of these these committee because if you don't, nothing is
really moving.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Nothing moves.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
You got to have a relationship with these individuals because
if you don't, you know your legislation as good as
it is. America First, America First, helping our out there,
nothing will get done unless you have a positive relationship
with these individuals, and I just think that there's a
lot of great legislation out there, but it doesn't move
very far because of just personalities up here. It took
(12:27):
me five years the bill passed, Michael, think about this.
The bill passed in the House of Representatives four hundred
and twenty four to zero. And then I had Ted
Cruz as my co sponsor on the CENTA side and
it did to unass consent. So it finally took me
five years. But the point is is it's hard. It's
hard to move legislation up here, even things that can
help American It's people. It's just it's a process, a
(12:49):
very difficult process.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Thomas Ben Troy Nils is our guest. You mentioned Marjorie
Taylor Green that was one of Donald Trump's biggest supporters
and defenders, and now she has quite changed her position
and including announcing that she's leaving for Congress. What do
you think is really happening there?
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Well, I'm not going to I mean, listen, I think
Marjorie has a I mean, I think she's done a
pretty good job. But I just think that there's a
lot of people up here. Bacael, you got four hundred
and thirty five people, and nobody got to Washington, d C.
By lacking self confidence. Okay, a lot of people think
very highly of themselves up here, and I believe, you know,
I think there could be some truth to the story
(13:27):
about you know, there's a there's a Senate race there
in Georgia, and I know Mike Collins and Buddy Carter
I think are in that, and that's Marjorie State as well.
And I think she probably looked at the numbers, or
the boss looked at the numbers, the boss being Trump,
and said that, you know, there's no path for her.
I think she probably wanted some upward mobility, either running
for senator or another position, and then the numbers weren't there,
(13:51):
and I think that probably just kind of set her off.
I don't know why you would go against Donald Trump.
I mean, she's been very committed to the Mega.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Movement since she's I guess she's going to MSNBC. It
makes you wonder what her true values were all along.
I'm not sure. I've always thought that whatever someone thinks
of her, you want her on your side because she
is not afraid of conflict, that is for sure.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Congres.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Montroy knows. Why do you think people like Nancy Pelos
who went to Washington, DC and.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Never left because they listen you know, I don't know,
people probably saturated. You really say that this is probably
for some people, the greatest country club in the world. Congress,
think about it. It's the greatest country club in the world.
You get to meet people, you have relationships with some
of the most powerful people on the globe. You have
(14:43):
an enormous amount of authority. You have the ability to legislate,
get you know, past bills if you have the right
relationships with the right people. But I just think people
stay up here for thirty forty years because they get
absorbed this swamp. When Trump called us a swamp, it is.
And eventually the swamp will just swallow you, and then
you become part of this. Now I think you become
(15:06):
part of the problem. I think you just you lose
your fight, you lose that fight in you, and you
just you cave. You just all of a sudden say okay,
I give, and then you become part of this swamp.
I don't I'm a term limits guy. I believe in
term limits, So I don't know if I could do
this for ten years. Beyond ten years, I don't think
(15:28):
I could even do ten years, Mike go because I
care too damn much. I care, and we have an
opportunity to put America and it's people first with a
unified government, and we've seen to have a difficult time
doing that. So I care too much this place can.
I didn't come up here to have a heart attack either,
that's for certain.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Troyanelle's fifty seven years old, leaving Congress and fast approaching
fifty members who will do so. Are Republican majority in
definitely hanging in the valley in the balance, Conrencel Troy Nelson,
thank you for your time, My good man, yep.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Flop Michael Berry Show.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
When my friend Larry Hoffman died on my birthday, as
he got the last laugh November tenth, and I was
thinking about a line that I remembered from that movie,
and I couldn't remember who said it, and the line
was laughter through tears is my favorite emotion. So I
(16:41):
went back to watch the scene where I knew it happened,
and I knew it wasn't Charley McClain. Have you seen
the movie? Well spoiler alert Sally Field's daughter. Sally Field
is one of those people who has a name that
I'm never really sure if they're a s on the
end of it or not. Like I don't know if
(17:02):
it's Joe Burrow or Burrows. There's a lot of those people,
and I don't know if it's Sally Fields or Field,
and so whatever it is. And her daughter has died,
and her daughter's very young, and she's the mother of
a child, and she loves her child, but she has
severe diabetes and she died, and and that affected me
when it came out, because my dad has diabetes and
(17:23):
I always assumed he would die early. He's a medical miracle,
he really is. And my wife says he'll outlive us all.
But there is a scene in the movie where her
daughter has died and her friends these it's it's very
chick flick moment, but it's really great cinema. It's great
writing and great acting and great execution. And she's raging.
(17:46):
She's angry that her friend that her daughter has died.
And so the ladies behind her, who are Daryl Hannah.
But Daryl Hannah plays a real homely character, which is
kind of interesting how they were able to pull that
at all. And Shirley McClain, who's weezy and Wesa and
(18:06):
I can't remember the other woman. It was really funny.
She's tall, you'd know her name. She's a famous actress
and Dolly Parton. Sally Field's character she's crying. You know,
she was supposed to be here. I'd walk all the
way to Texas for her. I was going to die first.
It was always meant that I would die first, and
not her. Her child will never know what a great mother.
(18:29):
And then she says to her friends. They're walking through
the cemetery and she's just having a breakdown and she
turns and she says, I just want to hit something.
I want to hit it so hard. I want to
make it hurt like I'm hurting. And the woman I
wish I could remember her name, pushes Shirley McClain for
because Shirley McLain's character, Wesa is just this grumpy person
(18:53):
nobody in town likes because she's a widow. It's kind
of what you're led to believe as to why she's
so grumpy. And she says, here, hit Wesa, and and
she says hit her, and Charley McClain says, what are
you doing here? Hit her? Uh? We should do us
a favor. Everyone hates you here hit her. Sally Field's
whatever characters same is And Sally Field stops raging and
(19:15):
stops she's stifling a laugh, and the rest of them,
Charlie McClain storms off. How dare you offer me up
to be hit in the face? She storms off, and
then that woman has to go chase her down.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
And then afterwards they're talking about, you know, I never
thought I could laugh after such a death and such sorrow.
And she said, laughter through tears is my favorite emotion. Well,
it's Dolly Parton's character who said that. And I've always
thought Dolly Parton was kind of hamming it up right,
And I think she's, But my goodness, she has stayed
(19:52):
in character for fifty five years. If she is, it's
the damnedest thing. In any case. Over the weekend, the
big news was not the football on the field. It
amazes me how the people in the broadcast and commentary
(20:14):
of sports never seem to actually care about the game itself,
how well a team's offense executed, What amazing tacticians their
coaches are with this blocking scheme, how they managed to
neutralize the best player on the d line in the country,
(20:35):
how they got the most out of a out of
a true freshman and he ran for one hundred yards
and it's just amazing. That to me is what's fascinating
about sports. But people in media sports media are never
interested in that. They either want to make a political
statement because they realize that that's where the glory is.
It's not in sports media, it's in politics. Except this weekend,
(20:58):
there was no story in politics or sports bigger than
Lane Kiffin and the Lebron James to Miami or stay
in Cleveland, drama, the bachelor of who would get the
Rose and as it turns out, the announcement was supposed
to come after the game when they beat Mississippi State,
(21:19):
supposed to come Saturday morning, didn't dragged well into Sunday,
and then the announcement that he will be the Lane
train will be headed to Baton Rouge. Where As Eddie
Martinez likes to say they crap national titles. For anyone
who doesn't understand why you would leave Old miss to
go to Baton Rouge, it's because they've won the second
most number of national titles since two thousand and three,
(21:43):
and the only team to better them was Alabama with
the coach who used to be at LSU got his
first major coaching gig head coaching gig at LSU. You
go to LSU in their national title talks here, Crockett,
he will tell you at a at the Ripe page
of eighteen that the twenty nineteen LSU Tiger team is
(22:06):
the greatest team in the history of college football. But
with the great rivalries facing off, the Texas Texas A
and M rivalry, the sports media could only worry about
Lane Kiffin going to baton Rouge. It got more coverage,
which is crazy than the actual games being played. Welcome
(22:29):
to the biggest game of the weekend.
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Two teams battling for both a conference championship title and
a coveted spot in the twelve team playoffs. It doesn't
get much bigger than this. But first, let's check in
on what America really cares about the Lane Kiffin decision
twenty twenty five. Well, thank you, Bob. We're on pins
and needles here at the studio. As lane kiffen could
certainly maybe possibly stay or not stay at the University
(22:53):
of Mississippi. Half my sources say he stays and sixty
percent say he goes. All right, thanks for that update.
We're ready for off in the Game of the Year,
Simmons has it at the fifteen yard line. All right,
a little bit of breaking news here. We'll get you
back out to that big game of the week. But first,
we just confirmed from sources that Lane Kiffin just had
a bowl of gumbo and a shrimp po boy for
(23:14):
lunch in the coaches lounge. That's a big development in
the Kiffin decision twenty twenty five. Looks like he might
be headed to the Bayou Bengals. Guys, back out to you.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
All right.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
While you're away, Simmons had the Return of the year,
breaking six tackles and taking the ball all the way
to the three yard line where it's first and goal.
Quarterback takes the snap, scrambles out of the pocket, throws to.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
The end zone.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
End.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
All right, we'll get you back out to the Game
of the year.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
But first, another source has just confirmed that fried catfish
just made its way out to the coach's lounge. Maybe possibly,
but not certain, that Lane Kiffin could be staying at Mississippi.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Back to the guys in the booth. All right, while
you're away.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
This time, the Wildcats scored a touchdown and the Bulldogs
have it at the forty yard line where Jackson takes
the snap heaves it down field.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
All right, if you want to keep watching.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
The Game of the Year, it's over on espno show
as we've moved to walda wall coverage of Kiffin decision
twenty twenty five, and we've now gotten word that Lane
Kiffin has taken both the gumbo and catfish to go
and is headed to the airport.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Let's take a look in Live.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Ah.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yes, you gotta love the passion of the college football fan. Well,
the plane is in the air, and what's that.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
Well, now we hear it's detouring to Nashville for a
quick visit to the Titans.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Who are one and eleven on the year. This is
getting wild.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
Stay tuned, folks, you only smoke mister Widens.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
The Michael Arry Show. In the midst of a week
where many people were traveling, spending time with grandparents and
extended family welcoming home the kids from college, one of
the stories probably did not get its fair due as
(25:04):
we were distracted from the news more so than usual.
Happened in Washington, d C. Were a man named Ramanuala
Ramannulah Ramanula Loch and Wall turned the corner and ambushed
two National guardsmen on duty in Washington, d C. When
(25:30):
my wife said to me, did you see where the
guy from Afghanistan shot the two National guardsmen? I said,
I just saw the headline. I haven't dug into it yet.
And she said he lived in Washington And I said, yeah,
that's where they were killed.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
It was.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Right there in d C. And she said, no, I
think he lived in Washington State. No, he'd have to
drive forever to get there. Well, he did over twenty
five hundred miles. And that speaks to a mental state.
In criminal law, you have a different mindset. You have
(26:13):
a different approach to crimes of passion, crimes of immediacy.
If a spouse walks in the door to change clothes
and go for workout in the middle of the afternoon
and his wife is laid up under another man and
(26:34):
he proceeds to blast him, that is, or at least historically,
has been treated very differently because the crime of passion,
he's raging. You know, a person is unreasonable at that moment.
They're not is my grandmother say not at his self,
but this was clearly a level of premeditation and plan.
(26:57):
That's a long way to drive, That's a very long
way to drive, and to do so over forty hours.
You've got a level of hate in your heart to
sustain you and drive you literally and figuratively that distance
to carry out this crime. And for what what do
(27:18):
you gain? So this individual, Lachenwall from Afghanistan, was in
the US under a humanitarian parole as part of the
Biden administration's Operation Allies Welcome Home, part of the botched
(27:40):
withdrawal of the Forever War in Afghanistan that President Trump
extricated us from. He said, we're not continuing in the
forever wars. Dick Cheney, Dan Crenshaw, Lindsey Graham, all of
you neocons who love wars that continue forever. We did
this in Vietnam, we did this in Iraq. We're not
(28:02):
going to stay there. We're getting out. We're not accomplishing anything.
Your sons were being killed in Afghanistan. Now, how long
did we need to be there? Did we need to
be there at all? Well, we had to get Osama
bin Laden. He was in Pakistan so why were they
(28:25):
there so that the major defense contractors could get rich?
Was that byproduct a glitch in a system or was
it by design? Either way, it happened, and those individuals
have great influence on Capitol Hill. So you stay in
Afghanistan for decades, and when you're there, your men are
(28:53):
at great risk, and so they have to learn to adapt.
They have to build friendships. Some cases you buy friendships,
but certainly you build friendships because you need help from
locals for protection or assistance for guidance. Where are the
(29:16):
bad guys? Where are the terror cells? Now? If you
don't involve yourself in forever wars, you don't have to
make deals with the devil, because, as it turns out,
many of those people who are perceived to be allies
turned out simply to hate the Taliban but are part
(29:37):
of their own group. In any case, I've never understood
the desire to relocate these people into the United States.
But at least if you were going to you'd be
very restrictive and you would ensure that the people who
you brought here were not terrorists themselves, so that now
(30:01):
not only are your men fighting them in Kandahar. Hell
Mood province, the mountains and valleys and the sand and
the dirt. Not only are you battling them there as
warriors in combat, you're bringing at least some of them
(30:21):
to this country. We were assured by Jen Psaki at
the time that no, no, not, these were carefully vetted.
Biden administration made sure that only the best, those who
helped our men. We owed them that there are our allies.
It has emerged during this administration and a revelation through
(30:42):
review of the files that no, in fact, they weren't vetted.
Lots of people were just scooped up. So we've seen
rashes of rape and pedophilia, violence and terrorism breakout. Surprise,
A low IQ individual who is illiterate, didn't speak English,
(31:06):
but very well trained in the hard, scrabbled dirt war
that he has lived for ten generations. That's all Afghanistan
has ever been his war. Why they can't develop anything?
They're actually pretty darn good at it. Ask the British
er read Kipling's poem about an Englishman dying in the
(31:29):
Afghan desert. Ask the Russians who when they engage the Mujahadeen,
The Russians didn't just kill their men when they captured
