The Michael Barry Show. This isthe story of two people who were keeping
secrets. Yesterday, in between shows, as we try to do once a
week, Ramona and I were onour way to the Low Tee Center to
get our testosterone shot in the butt. And some days we'll ride together and

(00:27):
tell stories or whatever else. I'vebeen with Chad longer than I've been with
Ramone. Chad's just short of twentyyears. And while I sat next to
Ramone and he helped prep me beforeI went in and did my show,
he wasn't on the other side ofthe glass. So yesterday we're driving and

(00:49):
it's raining and starting lightning, andI said, look, if we get
in a tragic accident and you die, tell me one thing you've never told
me that I will remember as thelast thing you told me. Without a
second's hesitation, he says. So, my first job was at a radio

(01:15):
station in Galveston. And for thoseof you, was it w what sorry
KGBC, which is over on PelicanIsland. Keep Galveston Beautiful, KGBC,

(01:36):
Keep you know beautiful. There's asea hanging at the end. Huh and
clean? Is that true? KeepGalveston beautiful? Okay? So This is
a story of two people who kepta secret that was discovered. So Ramon
says, my first job was atthis station there k KGBC in Gallas and

(02:00):
it was over on Pelican Island, and I worked for a guy named Tim
Kingsbury. A few of you alreadyknow where this story is going. And
Tim Kingsbury doesn't come to work oneday, no big deal. And then

(02:22):
Tim Kingsbury doesn't come to work asecond day, starting to get odd,
third or fourth day, I geta call from Vandy Anderson. Vandy Eric
Anderson, is he still aw He'sapparently a well known guy from a prominent
family on the island. So VandyAnderson sends, did you get a call

(02:51):
or we got a call? Andhe says, look, Tim's not working
here anymore, you know, pickup the slack. Then an e was
an email that came out. Thiswas ninety eight, A letter, a
mimo came out, a memo cameout all employees that said Tim Kingsbury no
longer works here. And that wasit. And in relatively short order,

(03:15):
Ramone and the other employees at thestation come to find out. Well,
Ramone says he was he was onthe run. He was a fugitive from
Ohio and he had faked his owndeath and he'd been living under a false
name. And I said, oh, I just need to get his real
name. And I look him up. He said, Patrick Welsh, how

(03:38):
do you know that it's been twentysix years. Oh, I remember it
like it was yesterday. Oh oh, okay, yeah, look up Tim
Kingsbury, b U r Y andPatrick Welsh and he was on the run
from Ohio. And he starts tellingme the stories of the story. And

(04:00):
I thought, twenty six years I'veknown you and you never told me you
worked directly. It wasn't like thiswas a you know, the Dow chemical
plant and you're on you know, one wing, and he's over on the
other side. This is the guythat you worked for day in and day

(04:23):
out, and he's on the roads. Oh yeah, yeah. They made
a CBS made a TV show aboutit and the whole thing. So I
get home last night and Paul Burker, who is a fantastic writer, terrible
politics, fantastic writer. Paul isa boi, as he loves to say,

(04:43):
and he knew Tim Kingsbury not well, but he had kept up with
everybody in Galaston he'd crossed paths withTim Kingsbury, and he wrote the most
riveting piece about this story in TexasMonthly. You can find it online if

(05:05):
you just put in Tim Kingsbury,b U r Y and Patrick Welsh you'll
see the and he gives you allthe details. So I get home last
night and I look it up andthe only thing they have, which I
watched and was terrible on Apple TV, they have an old lifetime I don't

(05:26):
know it was his lifetime movie. They have a lifetime movie about the story,
but I can't find there is.There is a CBS forty eight hours
in nineteen ninety eight called Dad's DoubleLife. The problem is that's a story
that a few people that you know. There's a few different names of that.
I'm trying to find that story. But it's a riveting story. He

(05:46):
faked his own suicide, he leaveshis wife and young kids defend for themselves.
They end up tracking. Well, there's a whole lot more to the
story. So the two people keepinga secret were Tim Kingsbury and Remote Roves.
