Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi everyone, and welcome. We're a cafe or come on, folks,
make some noises, get an atmosphere going here, live studio
audience as we had at iHeartRadio for the first show
before the season started. We're gonna be here a lot
during the course of the season. I'm Bob Joyce, Gino
Arima is with us. We're gonna talk you kon basketball,
you kind of women's basketball for the next hour, so
maybe a little bit afterwards. The after shows are usually

(00:21):
pretty good around here. Welcome back to your place. Looks
great as ever, and the holidays are here, so Tom
the gang has spruces the place up.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a fun time of the year. You know,
when you start to you know, field energy people come in,
they're celebrating something, you know, anniversaries, birthdays, whatever it is.
And then this year, I mean this time of the year,
it's you know, the holiday season for everyone, and they

(00:52):
do a great job. You know, they really do. It's
it's a fun place to be. Thank you, mister. So
I thought the show was going to be over after
we got done naming all the sponsors.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Hey, it means the salespeople are doing their jobs. I mean,
you win a national championship. You should have sponsors, right,
more sponsors. Yeah, and we had a good year, Joe Madden,
the gang had a good year at iHeart Radio doing
the sponsorships. All right, let's do big picture here, six
games in coming off of coming off wins over Michigan
and Utah over the weekend. What have you liked about

(01:27):
your team? Six games and knowing that there's still a
lot of work to be done.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Uh, there's there's like some threads that run through through
the each game. There's a moments of, you know, great play.
There's moments of where everything looks connected and everybody's flowing

(01:55):
nice and freely and things are things are happening that
makes sense, you know. And and I thought the Ohios
State game, I thought maybe we had the most minutes
of it looking like that, you know, where there wasn't.
There was only one one segment that I felt there

(02:16):
was like some drop off. But just about every game
there is a stretch where it doesn't look good. So
that's I guess, to be expected early in the season,
and it's to be expected more so than it was
let's say, last year, because there's more players, there's more

(02:39):
people out on the court, and the more people you
put out in the court, the ugly air is going
to look. That's there. I mean, you can't you can't
avoid that, you know, because as soon as you put
us and over a period of time last year, let's say,
you know, the rotation was kind of tight, and so

(02:59):
when whenever you put somebody in, it didn't really affect
the core group that much. And they were together all
the time, so you know, they got to know each
other here. You know, we're trying to play a lot
of people, so they don't spend as much time together,
you know, at practice or whatever. So it takes a
while for it to it to gel and and you

(03:21):
got to find out too who who jels with who,
you know, like we can tell when we're looking on
the court. We know who's on the court when it
looks really really good, and we know who's on the
court when it's done look good.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
So well, the two they've really looked good you expected
named Sarah Strong and asy fudd. Asi's off to a
fabulous start shooting the basketball. I mean, her average has
been very very good. It's it's gotten hot over the
last couple of games. Now she's up to let me
see here shooting fifty five percent from three, and I

(03:55):
mean she's she's on a little bender right now over
the last three or four games. But the thing that
stands out about Sunday eight rebounds. Eight rebounds for asy Fudd. Yeah,
I mean that's far and away a career higher. I mean,
you know, this is a yeah, We're gonna get eight
rebounds a game from her all the time. But yeah,
that was impressive.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Well, yeah, it was impressive on Sunday because it was
embarrassing Friday. So when you get embarrassed on Friday because
Sarah Strong has to get twenty rebounds because the rest
of you guys are just standing around going go Sarah,
you know, that's kind of embarrassing. At the end of

(04:34):
the game, you know, you look at the statue and
you see that no one else even made an attempt
to go rebound when you watch the film, so it
was not a fun watching the film on Saturday. And
I'm not even talking about what the score was. I
could care less about what the score was. That's a
perfect example what I'm talking about, where you know, we
start the first quarter and like bam, you know, like
we're off and running and then you know, like they forget,

(04:57):
you know, they forget that the the team was really
really good, you know, and so guys got in found trouble.
You know, Blanco was terrible and she didn't rebound the ball.
She had more thousand turnovers than points and rebounds combined.
That's not it. That's I don't care what language, Spanish,

(05:19):
Italian or English, that's a bad day. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah, it was tough. She played just eight minutes and
did not help herself much at all in that game,
and so we didn't get much from your bigs in
that game. Carried out.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
No, No, it was just a it was hard to watch.
And then Saturday when we got together for film and practice,
you know, we showed it to them and pretty much
challenged them. You know, they say, you ought to be embarrassed.
That's the word I use. You ought to be embarrassed
that your teammate has to get twenty rebounds.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
You had a good conversation with Blanca, and I heard
the postgame presser and she took to it. People have
to remember she's a pro so to speak, having played
in Europe, but she's still what eighteen.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, she's eighteen, and she played professional basketball, but not
like in the Number one league where you know, Nika
and Dorka and those other guys playing. So she plays
on the team that we would beat here at yukon
that protein because it's the next level down, okay, And

(06:23):
she plays in a way that I call it she's reckless,
but sometimes she wrecks the other guys, not just us.
So you really can't do, you know, hold her back,

(06:44):
because if you hold her back, then you're not going
to get some of the great stuff that she does.
Like she does stuff nobody else on our team can do,
you know when you watch her. So you got to
just let her go and you know, learn from the
stuff that happens, you know, like the other night she
almost played a perfect game.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
The other night Sunday, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
You know Sunday, but just for the you know, just
to give me something to get pissy about, she had
to go to Dribble Spin and crash into three of
their guys, just to remind me that, like coach, you know,
I'm not completely I'm not completely there yet, so you
have to bear with me.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
It's like the movie The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, well yeah, she gets them all she gets them all.
But you know, you can't. You can't stifle her because
then you would never get all the great stuff that
we're going to get. So but she listens, and she's prideful.
And when I talked to her about her role on
our team and what it is right now and what
we need from her, she she took it to heart.

(07:41):
And it didn't wait two weeks to do it. Shed
like waited one day. So I'm really proud of her,
all right. Well, and easy as well, because you know,
to two of them, you know, I addressed both of
them about what they needed to do and needed to
do more. So I'm glad that Sunday both of them,
you know, stepped in and did exactly what we need

(08:02):
them to do.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
All right, We'll get in a little more into Michigan
when we come back. As we are here, Hi, Mike,
nice for you to show up. I know traffic to Hilasius.
It's Tuesday before Thanksgiving, doesn't matter. Tuesday's worse than Wednesday.
