Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're back with Dan Hurlier, you con Men's Basketball Coaches Show,
Mike Crispino here huse skis with a Sunday night game,
Dan at six pm against Bryant. And you know, for
the fans who don't really understand, there's a lot of
the new TV services that want big East games and
college games. They're all jumping into the game and offering

(00:21):
money for TV rights, et cetera, et cetera. That's why
you're getting some of these funny schedule games. I thought
six pm on a Sunday was pretty tough.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, I mean it was, Uh, you don't play many
of those, you know. I think you're you know, you
mayy play it now and you may play it too.
It was it was strangely odd, you know, just you know,
four o'clock, it's getting starting to get dark out and
you haven't played yet on a Sunday. But I'll say,
like the TVs, TNT, True TV. You know, again, I

(00:57):
don't I'm not sure exactly what the commentary is on there,
but I do know that they're making a great effort,
you know, to cover the sport halftime show, pregame show,
postgame show. You know, they're they're getting players on the
set and interviewing them postgame from the studio, from on site.
I mean, I kind of really like their coverage of it.

(01:20):
But I didn't like the six o'clock Sunday game quite
as much as I like their coverage.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, NBC Peacock, they're all involved. Now. Husky's got to
up to a twenty nine to nine lead at one
point in that game. Defensively, I guess a really tall team.
And when I told people on the air, this is
the tallest team in America that I'm sure people were saying,
what is he talking about? But honestly, this was kind
of a big team to face in Brian in that

(01:48):
game at People's Bank Arena.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, I mean, maybe it's not so bad to play
a taller team when you have a really super tall
team next and you just kind of delt with the
tall team. I when Mike Nardi shared that stat, I
was kind of stunned. I you know, I I accused
him of of misrepresenting the data, and and then you

(02:15):
you see it on paper and you see him in person,
and they actually were that tall and uh and positionless
with the switching, and you know, for us, I think
just taking points off the board at our end on offense,
just missing so many layups and and having open open
shot opportunities not converting them. It was just, h yeah,

(02:36):
it was. It was a frustrating evening of u of
offensive struggle, just being able to convert and finish plays
and not seeing people open, not not not spraying the
ball to open teammates, not finishing plays at the rim.
I liked our defensive effort for the most part, minus
you know, probably six or seven isolated situations of screw ups.

(02:59):
But uh, you know, I thought we did a pretty
good job defensively. The rebounding is still concerning. We're getting
shoved underneath the basket a lot where you can't rebound
the ball from the restricted You know, if you're inside
that that restricted circle and you're trying to get a
defensive rebound, the only thing you can rebound as a
made shot when you're inside the restricted you could just

(03:20):
grab it right out of the net. So yeah, I mean,
there were things that obviously are you're concerning and that
we got to fix, and you know, some of it
will be fixed by getting healthier. You know, taris will
help a lot of things at both ends of the court.
I think Braylan will give us, you know, some opportunities
to get people off the court, you know that are

(03:42):
playing too many minutes. Just it's going to create more
competition for people to you know, be on there, be
on their business or else. Uh. You know, you're you're
not going to play as much.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
They'll be sitting next to you on the bench, and
you don't want that if you're a player.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
She's a great motivator.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, yeah, it certainly is. Yeah, getting back to Terras
and Braylan Mullins, quick update.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
This is Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
We recorded Wednesday. We are it where you at? You've
been seeing him at practice a little bit. What's you're
thinking going forward with those two guys.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, so the guys have returned to the practice floor,
which I think is uh, you know, it's being able
to get the like live reps and uh, you know,
and and moving much better. And you know they'll have
a obviously a you know, a couple of days to
get ready for a premier team, a you know, maybe

(04:36):
as talented a team as we'll play you know this
year across the board. I mean, they're an impressive group,
so it would be ideal for them to be available,
you know, but we've got to kind of see, you know,
what direction it's heading in. I would say with with
you know, with Braylen, it's you know, if he is available,
it's going to be you know, off the bench, i'd imagine,

(04:58):
and uh, you know, and with a minute restriction. And
then you know, Tarris's you know, situation is a little
different because you know he was actually playing and then
it's just missed the last ten days to two weeks.
But whereas Braylan, we haven't seen in five or six weeks.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yeah, I can't wait to see him for sure. Against Brian,
ten guys scored. Eric Raiba again played nineteen minutes and
led the team in scoring sixteen points. When you first
saw him on campus and as you've been working with
him here in the last couple of months, did you
foresee he'd be able to put points on the board

(05:37):
like this. Obviously he's got a long way to go
and in terms of rebounding and other things. But I mean,
he made a couple of threes against Arizona, he scored
some points there. He had six boards against Brian. I mean,
he's kind of filled in the in the absence of
Terras Reid pretty well.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
I mean if you look at center production, you know,
and you know versus Arizona's front court again minus the rebounding,
Eric is exactly you know what we thought he was
going to be. Uh, you know, the offenses there. The
guy's super skilled and uh, you know, he's going to
be I think a great player. You know, the the

(06:14):
rebounding in the and the overall ballstream defense and rim protection.
You know, it's going to develop and needs work. I
mean that area just like it would for a lot
of freshman centers that are getting thrown into the fire.
But you know, I think you know he's not you know,
with Taris coming back, you know, you know soon here

(06:35):
it it feels like we're going to be in a
situation where we're going to have a couple of bodies
at that position that could give us as good a
production as we've had there. You're we're more worried about
trying to get some other guys going right now.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah, well, that was the next question. Solo ball Alex
Caraban in the last game against Bryant not on target
two for thirteen. I think from three you're you're well
you're very familiar with shooters. You were a pretty good
one in your career too. What happens when a guy's
not getting the ball to go through the hoop? What's
the thought process for him? How do you handle it

(07:10):
as the coach?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, I mean it's I think there are different situations.
I think, you know, Solo is in is you know,
in a little bit of a rut. You know that
I'm just waiting for the you know, the explosion and
waiting for you know, the flame to come on, you
know him a fantastic four flame on boom. Now this
guy's just scorching the nets. I think with Alex it
was the guy was shooting sixty one percent from three,

(07:35):
and you just I don't think anyone's ever shot sixty
one percent from three. I think it was more, you know,
frustrated we couldn't get him more opportunities versus Arizona. And
then you know, now he's you know, he's come off
back to back games where you know, he didn't get
a lot of attempts and they didn't shoot it well.
So now I was shooting fifty percent from three, So
you know, I think alex Is, Alex is going to

(07:57):
be fine. I think everyone benefits from when we have
all of our guys available. I know no one likes
to hear that, you know, but you know the reality
of the situation is, you know, when when when when
we get to full strength, I think, uh, and we
get a chance to you know, to play and and
and be out there as a group. I think we'll
get a better sense of of who we are. And

(08:18):
and uh, I think Solo right now, he's he's he's
feeling it, and he's putting a lot of pressure on himself.
And and uh, you know knows how important to your is.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Yes, basing the floor matters, that's for sure. Back with
