Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sheeta's having fun with that.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
I would be like, I would watch anything except this.
But you guys are great about that.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
The stuff in the breaks is better.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Is just all those sponsors. They love you guys. You
stay tuned to the TV.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
That's radio.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Yeah, let's not forget that and radio and radio people.

Speaker 4 (00:15):
Hey, we have a wonderful lady sitting right over here.
First time here. She turns a sound down and listens
to deb and myself. That's the way you should do it.
Or it would be the radio, the Varsity app, whatever app.
If you have a DVR. Seriously, if you have a
DVR and you don't like the announcers on TV, because
god knows, I see it all the time on social media.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Oh, the announcers are terrible. Put them AI on. It's
not easy. You get the home.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Broadcast, you know everything's going on, you get detail. It's
like old days. Close your eyes. Theater of the mind,
that's what it is. And we'll be with them this weekend.
We go to Xavier Sunday, we go to USF Tuesday.
All the games on the radio, so give it, tune
in and it's not the same anymore.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Without s n Y for TV.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
You don't get the coverage that they gave or we
give you pre and postgame, get him every game, you
get the opposing coach. Although I'm going to miss Jose.
That's gonna be different going now us SEF without Jose.
Although I did see him at the Ohio State game.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
It was great to see him.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, he was here for a couple of days at
my house and you know, just to get caught up
on a bunch of things and and Page, you know,
we did talk a little bit about that. And now
they just got the first pick in the lottery. So
I don't know what they're going to do. I don't
know who they're going to take, you know, and everybody goes, oh,
take a'sy, take Asy, take Asy. That might not be

(01:31):
what they need, you know, so they're gonna have to
figure that one out.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
There's some foreign kid that's supposed to be really.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Good, Well, yeah, there's a there's a big kid in
Spain that's you know, that's yeah, yeah, maybe the best
player out there.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
So it depends, you know, it depends what they want
to do with their team, how they want to build it.
But it's not automatic that all Page is there. Let's
just get easy. And you know, I don't and I
don't think as he's thinking that either. You know, maybe
if you asked as to like, well, I'd like to
go number four to Washington where I live, you know,
being close to home. So who knows how that's going
to go. But hey, listen, Jose's now coaching in South Florida.

(02:09):
They'd beat Duke for the first time ever, second time
back years, back to back here, I'm sorry to back
at home.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
They're tough at home.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
So they're good. Yeah, they're good. So, yeah, this is
gonna be uh, it's gonna be a good trip.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Yeah, Tuesday will be fun. I mean at least men's
and women. Tuesday got women in USF five o'clock. Men
play at Kansas again.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
That's a big day.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
That'll be a big day for women's for basketball.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Don't our guys played Louisville, I mean Illinois.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Illinois Friday at the Garden.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
So they go Friday Tuesday, Friday.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Tuesday, they have one game, one by game, and then
they have Florida and Texas right after that.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Nice good non conference schedule.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Now they know what I go through every.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Year exactly as they should.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
All right, Well, we were talking about your mom and
getting nervous in close games. I know all of you,
some of you get nervous in close games, right, We're not.
I love close games because it makes our broadcast much
more fun. On Friday was interesting. Michigan is legit good.
They had three outstanding sophomores, Olivia Olsen, Mila Holloway and
Silas Swords, who is only averaging close to thirty points
a game against the three number one teams that she

(03:12):
has facing her career. South Carolina, UCLA and you cut
and she scored twenty nine and that was quite the
show between she and Azy Fudd in the fourth quarter.
But let's go back to the third because nicely at
halftime they go zone, they come back. It felt like
a game against North Carolina last year, almost the same thing.
Made things interesting because of the zone. Zones can change

(03:33):
you a lot, and especially if you're not making shots,
and that kind of was the case in the third quarter.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
One of the issues.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, yeah, you know, your people go zone for a
couple of reasons. One they can't guard you men and man.
Or they go zone because they just want to change
the tempo of the game. They want to make the
game slower, and they want to they want to make
you stand one spot, which is not bad. You know,

(04:02):
if you've got the right the right pieces, it's not bad.
So Ohio State did the same thing. Ohio State came
out and they went zone, and we made three passes
and got a wide open three and then they didn't
do it again.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
That was it. That was the only time they played it.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
So with with playing zone and playing Mission, they're going
to stay in it as long as you keep missing shots.
And we kept missing shots. So we watched the film
and it's like, we got a bunch of open shots
and then here's what happens. It's like baseball. Basketball is
a little bit like baseball. You know, when people start hitting,

(04:44):
everybody hits. When people don't hit, nobody hits, you know,
when they call, you know, the teams in a slump
or something. So we had some wide open shots and
people wouldn't take them, and Asy was the only one
who would shoot them. And that makes it hard for
us because our job is to get you an open shop.

(05:08):
If you won't shoot it, there's nothing we can do
about it. And then they get some momentum and then
we're up ten or twelve whatever it was. And then, look,
I'm not saying anything I don't say to my team
all the time. We're not very bright as a team.
I don't mean I can school or stuff like that.

(05:29):
We're just not a very smart basketball team. We do
a lot of dumb things, okay, and you can't do
that against a really good team. So the last part
of the last part of the game, they did the
same thing three times in a row, and Swords got
a wide open three all three times. Now you got

(05:51):
to say to yourself, God bless the kid and God
blessed Michigan because they execute it, and we're dumb because
we let the same thing happen times in a row.
So you need both of those things for it to
be a really close game.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah, right, Like if they if they're really good and
you're smart, it doesn't matter. You know.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Sometimes if they're bad and you're not smart, it's bad
for you. And we had the double whammy. They were
really good at executing and we I don't want to
mention any names, but we got some players that we
don't think very quickly out on the floor.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
On Sunday, I was sitting next So they're radio broadcaster,
mister Park and we were talking about the game on Friday,
and he also mentioned to me that there is a
thought that there could be a yukon Michigan game next year.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
I don't know if our schedules finished yet for next year.
But you know, Ward was there and how many you
guys in the award when he was here as the aide?

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Yeah? Where was that the game? You know, he came
down this you know obvious.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
See, you know, it was great for him because he's
going to support Michigan and you know, and he really
likes Kim and their team. But they had a they
had a football game Saturday at at Maryland, and so
he was able to finagle fly down watch the game
Friday and then go to the Maryland game Saturday, and
so we talked a long time. You know, we got

(07:21):
together after the game and yeah, you know, if there's
a chance that we could play a home and home
with them, I would love it. They're great, Kim's great,
Their coach is great. You know, one of the assistant
coaches on their team was the Xavior.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Coach a few years ago.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I had the game, so yeah, yeah, you know, so
far we've played what two Big ten teams, two ACC teams,
and a Big twelve team and like Loyola during the
eight ten. So yeah, we try to spread it around.
You know, you don't want to play these same teams

(07:58):
all the time, you know, you want to try to
you know, like, we haven't been at usc in forever
and we're going out there this year.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Last time we went there was three. Yeah, we've never
been to Michigan.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
No, that was the first time. That was the first
time we ever played Michigan.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
You played Michigan State a few times.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Yeah, we played in Michigan State.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
One I won, but not there though.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
No, never played at Michigan State.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
By the way, I brought this up, so I figured,
what is that is? That's hockey? Hockey has up won
nothing on stone Hill first period?

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Wait, what's today?

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Tuesday?

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Since when did he play on Tuesday?

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Well, Tuesday before Thanksgiving? Oh, six o'clock face off? So
I figured you inna a.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Right, Yeah, Well I hope they win because I'm supposed
to see Kavanaugh have lunch with kavanall O tomorrow, So
I'm not going if they lose.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
So I don't want to deal with it.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
They better not lose tonight, and that's not those games.
They can't lose the only game this week.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
All right, In case you didn't know, he's a big
hockey fan, big hockey fan.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
All Right, we'll come back more with Gino.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
It's the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show, live from Cafe
over here on Learfield.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
