Speaker 1 (00:00):
In like middle school or high school. It's it's got
to be really, really, really challenging.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Back with Gino here in the Women's Patleages of Coaches Show,
we're just having a conversation about communication nowadays. Kids are
so much inngaging their phones now, having that one on
one conversation, that's a great point.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yeah, it's hard.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
You've been tho those for forty years. Yeah, I hear you.
Coaches Show Tomorrow night, Guys take Over Tomorrow night at
six to seven Coach Hurley for three segments and then
Silas Demrie Junior with Mike Rospino Tomorrow night, yukon Sports Network,
Varsity Network app, Varsity Network dot Com. That's a recorded show.
By the way, he doesn't do live shows like g
you know we're cav and if you ever, if you
ever hear Bears. We do live shows for hockey at

(00:39):
the Bears Barbecue.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Which one hard for downtown Downtown, Okay.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Kav wants to come up here.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
He wants to do a show with you, So I know,
I know his daughter works here part time.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
I heard that.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Yes, he did tell me that. He did tell me
that he's a great girl.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Sarah Strung, we have not mentioned her name a lot
so far tonight, certainly have on the radio, that's for sure.
In the game. Yeah, boy, the things that she does
at her young age, I mean, she's played what forty
five forty six games in her college career, and the
stuff that she's doing complete special. One number that's not

(01:13):
in here of among the eighteen blocks or sixteen blocks,
eighteen steals, I'm shooting thirty percent from three, sixty percent
field goal, eighty eight percent free throws, almost ten boards
a game, just the tips, the active hands that she has.
She disrupts so much. Whether it be inside perimeter doesn't matter.
She is so disruptive.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
She is She has great anticipation, which you're kind of
born with, you know. She has great vision, like she
sees what's going on. You know, some kids are like,
remember the old I should have had a V eight.
Like something happens, a kid goes back to her cut,
Oh where's my man? Like they don't get me started.

(01:58):
So she she knows, she knows where you are. She
knows where you are, where you are, where you are,
and very rarely is she caught in a situation where
she's kind of lost. So that's that's one, and that's
just a field that she has for the game. And second,

(02:18):
when she has the ball in her hands, she's never stuck.
You never see kids pick up their dribble and they
go what do I do with it now? And you go,
why'd you pick it up? Well, because I don't know
what to do with it. She's never in that situation,
like if she picks up her dribble, it's because there's
a guy wide open and she's going to pass it
till you know. And she doesn't try to do things

(02:40):
generally speaking. She did it one the other day that
thought was dumb. She doesn't try to do things generally
that are complicated. She keeps the game very very very simple,
very simple. And yet when you watch her, if you
watch her closely, she's like the guy that plays it
for the her nuggets. She's like Yo Kic, Like she

(03:03):
just there's things where she'd like the pass went when
she dove on the ground and reached for the ball
and threw a pass behind her to Toash in Shade
running down for she As she's diving on the floor,
she saw Ash was open, Like who does that? Somebody

(03:26):
that's really gifted and can you know, can see everything.
So you know she shoots the ball, well, she dribbles it, well,
she passed. She has thirty assists and seven turnovers.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, that's a good number. That's pretty good, right, she
tried to It's one of those stretch bounce passes. I
think it was Sunday. Is that the one you're talking about.
I mean that's yeah, that's the kind of pass that
Gabby used to do, and do it really well.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, it's it's great. I don't I don't have I
don't have a I don't have a problem that that pass.
Only one person could steal it and it just wasn't
own early enough. And yeah, and the kid throw it.
The ones I have a problem with is trying to
throw a ball to where Paul is and three people

(04:10):
are guarding Paul and your brain is telling you that
kid's not open, but you go, but I'm going to
make them open and you throw it there.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
It would be like bred far. You mean, it's good
be here Warner Packer's fan, growing up of beings. I
know it's tough one year for Sarah Williams to come
here and adjust, but how do you think she's progressed
so far.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
I think it's been a struggle, a little bit of
a struggle, you know, different style of play, and that
you know, you're coming in with a you know, a
group that's kind of been together sort of you know,
the group that she's out there with. So it's it's

(05:00):
more for me, it's more about Okay, So when we
get you the ball in certain spots on the floor,
then you need to be able to score because that's
the same thing that you did last year. So the
things that come natural to you, like you did last year,
then do those things when there's two people guarding you.
You don't have to do that like you maybe had

(05:23):
to do last year, because we've got a bunch of
really good players that if you're passing the ball, they're
going to score, which maybe they didn't have last year.
So there's just things that are going to take time.
And then you know, you don't have to save yourself
to play forty minutes, so you need to like really go, go, go, go,
and then you know you get a breather. Maybe last year,

(05:46):
the last three years, you have to be in the
game for forty minutes for your team to have a
chance to win, all right, So there's a lot of
things that she probably did that now are different, and
you know, those things take a little bit of time.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Play in the Michigan game late it was a high
low against the zone. She was at the file line,
Sarah Strong was download. Usually that's flip flopped. Did you
flip flop flip flop that drawing it up or was
that just something they did naturally?

Speaker 1 (06:14):
I might I might have drawn that up eight minutes earlier,
but it finally happened. I don't think that particular time
is I did draw it up. But one of the
things that we do is we try to have people
moving so that that spot in the middle is always

(06:35):
filled and the spot on you know, that spot where
Sarah caught it is always filed. So we try to
make sure that those two spots are filled. Who ends
up filling them can vary, you know. But the one
thing that Sarah Sarah Williams, she's a little bit better
passer than I thought coming in, you know, because I

(06:58):
didn't I didn't know how much he actually paid basketball
last year, or didn't have the opportunity because she had
to score. So she'll be fine. It just takes a
little bit of time. A little bit of.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Time, all right, more do you know in a minute.
It's the kind of women's basketball coaches show live at cafe,
or I stay with us here on Learfield.
