Speaker 1 (00:00):
A couple of segments left here on the radio.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Then we'll have the after show here, which is always
fun with the coach Ooriema, Husky's and Xavier Sunday two
o'clock from the Sentai Center for the pregame tip off
at two thirty. Deb Fist joins me yukon Sports Network,
Varsity Network app, Varsitynetwork dot Com. First time in a
while we have been home for Thanksgiving. Normally Thanksgiving since
two thousand and seven, we've been somewhere Saint Thomas, the Bahamas, Portland,

(00:25):
Cayman Islands one year.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I mean my wife doesn't even have to do with
me for Thanksgiving this year unless she goes with me somewhere.
I mean, she hasn't gone with me anywhere the last
few years. Polo too, man, Yeah, they're always there.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm glad. I'm glad that we're home. You know,
I missed the Manchester road Race.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
It's a great time in Manchester. It's a fun, you know,
fun activity and it's great for the town.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Is your street on the route somewhere? No, No, you're
too far out.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
No, but they have to run right past the restaurant here.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
That's right, which is which is great?

Speaker 3 (01:04):
You know, And those that.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Have no that's right, that's home stretch, right, that's right.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
And those that have no interest in winning, nor do
they have any chance of winning, We'll have something for
them when they pass by here.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Ah.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
But I'm glad we're home. I'm glad we're home for Thanksgiving.
The the Xavier game. Uh, any have you ever been
to a game at Xavier?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
It's since I Center's a nice building. It's a great building.
It is.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
It is a great college building, really great. Have you
been to Butler And if you've been to Butler, you
know Hanklefield House, that's where they play you know the
movie Hoosiers. That's where that high school team won the
state championship in that building. I mean, it's been redone
a little bit, but it's in that building and it's
an unbelievable college facility. So there are some great facilities

(01:58):
in our in our those two I think are the
best of any of the other ones that are in
ourly just great classic facilities.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
You know, last season, anywhere we went and particularly Hinkle.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
We didn't go to the Xavier last year. I mean,
obviously Page had a lot to do with it. But
just the amount of kids in Paige Becker's jerseys. Now
the case of Hankel, there were a lot of Ashland
shade jerseys there because ash of course is from Indiana.
But it was just wild to see all year long.
But Hankle was fascinating because where you guys go to
the locker room, they go downstairs and they use the

(02:32):
football locker room, which is downstairs at Hankle. But to
get there, back and forth between that and the floor,
the amount of kids in basketball jerseys is waiting just
to see them was just extraordinary. And then afterwards they're
all hanging out outside hoping to get an autograph. That's
what your program's like. And I remember hearing about Chicago
kids are up in trees. Well did you get an
autograph or just get a look?

Speaker 3 (02:53):
I know, I know, yeah, last year it was. It
was pretty unique. I mean, you get these little kids,
you know, when we were little kids, I mean, god,
love it. You know if we ever had a chance
to see a professional athlete, or.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
I mean I could, who was your favorite growing up?
Do you have one, one or two guys in Philly?
Well growing up?

Speaker 3 (03:28):
You know that I gotta tell you, professional basketball wasn't
what it is today. Like if you wanted to watch
the NBA playoffs, and it was always the Sixers and
the Celtics and to go play for the NBA Championships,
So they never played against each other, and to see
the game, you had to watch it the next day

(03:49):
was tape tape delayed. They didn't even show them live. Now,
college basketball, that's a different story. Down at the Plastra,
which is on Penn's campus, that's where the best teams
in the country would come. There would be Big Five doubleheaders.
You know, in the afternoon you might have Vanova playing

(04:13):
South Carolina and at night you might have Saint Joe's
and Lasal And it was just an unbelievable atmosphere. And
you know, I was a Saint Joephian growing up for
whatever reason. But I think my favorite player ever to
play in the Big Five was Kenny Duratt played at Lasal.

(04:38):
He was way ahead of his time. He looked like
a guy that plays in the NBA today. He could
do all those things look like he would. He would
be the Jason Tatum of those days. He was just phenomenal, phenomenal,
and they were the number one team in the country,
but they couldn't play in the tournament against UCLA because
the previous coach that was there. You know, those Catholics,

(05:03):
they don't all follow the.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Rules understood, all right, One quick break here. We're getting
close to the end of the show here, so we've
got to pay a few more bills. It's the Yukon
Women's Basketball Coaches Show back with Geno in the final
segment in a minute here on Larfield,
