Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back you go.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
On Football Coaches Show, Mike Chris Bino is joined by
Lou Hanson officially Lewis Hanson number eighty one, the over
Massachusetts Saint Sebastians, where he was not only a football player,
a four year starter in basketball as well. We'll get
to that in a moment, but Lou, we got to
go football.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
You're six five, two forty.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
You got thirteen catches this year and I was watching
football on Sunday. The tight ends on the pro level
college two are becoming so much more involved, it seems,
in what's going on in the game of football. It
must be great for you guys to get involved, make catches,
get down the field.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Absolutely, It's definitely a fun part of the job, you
know what I'm saying. But seeing guys in the NFL
kind of take on bigger rules in the receiving games
pretty cool and I think it lends itself well to
the position as a whole.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, last year, thirteen games you played in, all of them,
made twenty four catches, had four touchdowns. No tds this year,
so I'm saying in the next two games at least
two tds for you.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
What do you think that'd be great.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
But as long as we're scoring touchdowns and winning games,
I'm all right, you know, but yeah, that'd be awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
The Duke win obviously was a big one. You knew
it was going to be a game in the thirties,
you guys. I was impressed in that game. You fell
behind five different times and you came back five different
times to take the lead. What's that say about this team.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
In your mind?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
When you were down and not down and out, but
you were behind, you got to come back and you
did it five times in that game.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
That's kind of a wild stat I didn't know that one,
but I think it's a testament to the resilience of
this team. And you know, coach Moore kind of puts
us in a lot of difficult situations starting all the
way back in training camp getting ready for this season
and just being prepared for the moment and believing in
the guy next to you and just staying resilient and
(01:58):
just working to climb back in like you said, and
we got a lot of great playmakers that helped make
big plays to get us in that position.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, we're gonna get to a couple of those playmakers
in a second. But over sixty thousand fans the last
two games came to watch you guys at home. We're
not down on the field, we're up in the booth.
Obviously we can hear the noise. What's that noise like
on the field? I mean, you've been at Michigan one
hundred thousand people, that's big. But the thirty thousand plus
that have been in the Rentler Field the last couple
(02:27):
of home games, they make a lot of noise too,
don't they.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Absolutely, that atmosphere was special. Like you mentioned, I played
at Michigan for two seasons and obviously a lot of
fans there, but I would say that the atmosphere that
we had for that Duke game was as good as
any I've been around, and it was really impressive to see.
And we really appreciate the fans coming out and we
hope they had as much fun as we did and
(02:51):
they come back.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yeah. We just talked to Donovan Branch about the postgame
celebration as the people got on the field, and this
happens in college football quite a bit, but it still
must be pretty cool to be in the middle of
the field, surrounded by your fan base after a game
and after a win like that.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, it was a really cool environment, something I've only
been a part of one other time. But I kind
of didn't even see them coming on the field. Was
kind of just you know, talking to my teammates and
congratulating each other on the win, and then you look
around and there's I don't know, twenty thousand people down
on the field. It was a pretty special moment that
I'll never forget.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, this team showed resilience this year. Obviously, you had
three losses, I mean last play losses. Let's talk about
that for a second. Bouncing back from that emotionally, that's
not easy. Tell me about how the team did that
because here you are seven and three. You know it
could be better record wise, but you're in a good place.
(03:51):
But you had to overcome some difficult losses this year.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Absolutely, especially when you lose like that on the last play,
that can be really emotional, like you said, but kind
of again, just a testament to the resilience that this
team has and just understanding that all of our goals
are still in front of us, and Coach Brown in
the weight room does a good job reminding us, you
(04:16):
know that if you're dwelling on the loss, You're going
to miss the opportunity in front of you. So just
not letting things like that snowball and snapping out of
it and coming back Monday ready to prepare for the
next Saturday.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, you gotta move ahead, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Joe Fignano your QB sixty nine percent completion rating, that's
pretty good. Twenty five touchdowns, no interceptions. Playing with a
guy like that having a season like that, how much
confidence does that give you and the rest of the
receivers when Fignano's taking the snaps.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Oh tons, I mean, Joe's special and kind of talking
about battling back five times against Duke, Like you mentioned,
you don't even really feel like you're down and out
when you've got a guy like Joe under center, because
you know, he just gives the whole team confidence that
we're going to fight back in and he leads the
charge and we follow his lead, and he's done a
(05:08):
great job for us all year.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Lou Hanson with us a tight end for the Huskies,
where's number eighty one? I want to talk about another guy,
number one, That guy Skyler Bell eighty five catches Lou
thirteen tds. I mean he made one the other day
sitting on his pants, sitting down on the ground, which
I still can't believe.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
That was one of his better ones.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
And then the other one in the corner of the
end zone where it was a fifty to fifty ball
and somehow he comes up with it.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
He is some kind of wide receiver, isn't he.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, they don't really feel like fifty fifty balls when
they're heading his direction do that. He's been awesome for us.
He makes a ton of plays, obviously, and between him
and Joe, just being able to kind of make a
play whenever we needed it feels like there's another reason
we're able to put up so many points and battle back.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Well, the Huskies have air Force. How do you get
back up for it after that emotional win over Duke?
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Similar to like coming back from a loss, like we mentioned,
can'twell on a loss. You can't really relive a win
too many times. Either, got to get right back in
and prepare for the next opponent. Air Force will give
us their own challenges that we got to overcome, and
so just kind of snapping out of it and getting
ready for the next game. It's really a one to
no mentality every week.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah, it's a good way to approach it. And finally
we got to throw an NFL note in there, since
the Patriots are seemingly back eight and two on the season.
You're a Massachusetts guide. Did you see this coming?
Speaker 3 (06:40):
I would like to think I did, and I would
like to say that I did, but I didn't see
it coming to this extent this early. So it's been
a ton of fun to watch on Sundays. The way
they've been playing has been great.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
All right, Well, I wish I was a Patriots fan.
I'm a Giants fan. I gotta suffer suffering. Listen, we
appreciate it. Thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Good luck with Air Force. Go get them. Let's get
to eat free, Yes, sir, go Huskies. All right, that's
lou Hanson.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Then thanks to Jimore, of course, Donovan Branch and Lou Hanson.
As the Yukon Football Coaches Show wraps up here and
they play Air Force on the weekend at the rent.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Let's get out there and support the Huskies.
