Speaker 1 (00:00):
Chesterfield, Frederick.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
This is how mine readers work, right, I.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Already know what the answer is going to be.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
But you're ready, you're nikkid. Just discount what we say.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
No, no, not at all ready. Yeah, I'll say three
and then you answer yes, one, two, three, fred Reichfield
nailed it, Chesterfield. So yesterday James River High School, I
think it was yesterday, Yeah, election day. James River High
School had an alum that was back at the school

(00:29):
doing a clinic.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
What kind of clinic baseball?

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Then he Passedquatino Passquatch passquatch nickname passquatch. Absolutely from the Royals, Yes,
from the Royals.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
He's great on X. I mean he's a very good
baseball player. But remember he went. He's definitely had attention
paid to him.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
By the way, he's great on TV on X before.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
But wasn't he during the home run derby posting lot
and he was essentially it was all done with kind
gentle ribbing, but it was like, oh, I'm cal Rally,
I'm an amazing baseball player. I can bat from both
sides of the fleet, and I have one of the
best nicknames in sports. Screw you something like that.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, No, he's very good on TV. He's very good
on TV.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
He's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, no, he's really good. So anyway, he went to
James River High School, Okay, and I guess he was
hosting a camp there yesterday. Now, as they said, he
was dispensing some of the tools in wisdom he's learned
throughout his journey on his way to the big leagues
and answered some very important questions like do you know
Aaron Judge, Elliott? You were there? Do you know?

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Show?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Hey? O Tani? But that's awesome? Wait does he like
obviously he plays for the Royals?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Is this off season home for him?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
I have no idea, like does.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
He does he come back home for the off season
or did he just come back for something? Or is
he just back visiting family? I don't even know if
he's I say that, I have no idea if he
still has family here?

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Did he go to college around here too?

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Is you know what? I don't know?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Where he odu?

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Why does that sound right?

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yesee? It does to me as well, But I'm not
one hundred percent certain.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Diane, look up Vinnie pas Quatino or Hugh did he
go with you? And Colin Oh does does Vinnie pas
Quatino know the story about Colin during that during that
car wash, walking off to the site so he can
masturbate in his bathing suit.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
He did go to Odu, he did?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Okay, Yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
He went with because you just said he did, I
didn't know if you were answering the first part of
the second part.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
So so Vinni Pascatino went to Odu.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
And played baseball from twenty sixteen to twenty nineteen.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Well, of course he played baseball, Diane.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Also, he's older than for you a Colin, say again,
he's older than you and Colin.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
How awesome is that?

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Though?

Speaker 1 (03:03):
How awesome is.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
That those kids probably at the time of their lives.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah, like he probably said, I've met Aaron Judge. If
the clinic was yesterday, he's still in town, right maybe, yeah,
somebody listening has to know him absolutely, or maybe like
parent of a kid who was taking part in the clinic.
But can did the kids were they like, hey, pasquatch,

(03:27):
can I have your phone number please? And they're texting
him to say, Carl Elliott.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Do you see the under armor shirts they all got?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Are you serious?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
You see that? So it's Scott It says Vinnie Pascuentino,
and then it Scott the sasquatch holding the bat, and
underneath it I believe it says either bingo slut or
baseball slut. No, I think it's like camp or something
like that. That's awesome, that's great. He's got to still

(04:01):
be here, Vinnie. I will trade What time yesterday was
this camp?

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Well had to be during the day.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I know it gets start at four pm.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
No, but I don't know if he flew out yesterday.
I don't know what his deal is.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
I have no idea, and he could have been canceled
or delayed because of the shutdown.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
What if he's sitting at the airport he's like, God,
I'm bored. I'd like something to do.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Oh, he'd be great to talk to him.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Come on, Vinnie, somebody find Vinnie. Please. But that's awesome.
I think it's great that he comes back to town.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
How many kids were a part of it?

Speaker 1 (04:41):
I mean a lot. I don't know what that. I
don't know what the numbers are. I have no idea.
I just know that he held a camp.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
I just imagined it would have been in high demand
if they had a lot unlimited number of spots.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Yeah, no, I would think so. I would think so.
All right, So if anybody knows Vinnie Pascuatino, please tell
him we are trying to hunt him down. Do you
want the other one?

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Who's the other one?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
So that's Frederick, that's Frederick, No, that was Ches. This
one is Frederick. Correct? Middletown High School? So just outside
of Frederick, but Middletown High School. Does anybody know Scott Devours?

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Not not by the name?

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Hey, as line one to hold?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
It's not Vinnie if he's in his flights boarding.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Okay, I'll go to line one. Don't let me forget
Scott Devours. Middletown High School. He is now? I think
he's in his mid forties now, not passquatch, he's younger
than that. But yes, Scott Devours. Where am I going? Kristen?
Line one? Hi, Elliott the morning?

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Hi?

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Is this me?

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Yeah? Hi?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Who's this?

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Hi?

Speaker 5 (06:02):
This is Cindy. My son Troy was at the camp yesterday.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Oh was it all? Did he ask him about Aaron Judge?

Speaker 5 (06:12):
I'm not sure, but he came back so happy with
all the gear that they gave him under armor chains,
gave them some treats as well. It was a great camp.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
The did he did he get much of a chance
to interact with Vinnie Pascuatino.

Speaker 6 (06:32):
Yes, he's actually in the photo that they posted for
the for the newspaper. I can't remember what newspaper, but
they I think it was a news station. He's wearing
a Dallas hat in the picture.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
He's in the back.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Yes, he got a lot of interaction with him.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
He's next to that one really really tall kid.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yes, yeah, yeah, there he is there he is.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Oh, that's cool.

Speaker 7 (07:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
He I used to work for the Astros back when
I lived in Houston, so I always wanted my son
to like baseball, but he obviously loves football. So I
was hoping that this would change his mind, and I
think it might us.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
This is your name, Sandy, By any chance, Cindy, I
thought you said Astros. Maybe think of Craig. Yes, Craig
worked for the Astros. He was in charge. He would
go in and breathe in the visiting team's locker room
to make him sick.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
No tell her what he actually did, Craig.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
I used to be in the marketing You know those
people that go and give the aisles the roles gives
or upgrade their seats.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah, No, didn't Craig give hand off the t shirt?

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah, Craig gave tors over here. This is where this
is where we keep the hot tubs. You would you
would know, Brady, trust me, you would know. Your nose
would be on fire. The Well, that's awesome, that's great,
that's great. Well, I'm glad your son had fun with

(08:09):
uh with Vinnie yesterday.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Yes, the shirts are awesome. I think I might keep
that for the rest of his life.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
No, you should, you should? All right, very good, Thank you, ma'am.
Thank you. Where am I going, Kristen? I haven't even
gotten to Scott Devours yet. Hi Ellie in the morning.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Hello, Yeah, Hi?

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Who's This is Alex from Chess Viewe. Hey, what's up Alex?
What can I do for you?

Speaker 3 (08:34):
I'm just really good friends with his older brother and
I just reached out to him to see if he
could contact him. He needs to be trying to contact
him to call in.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Oh, dude, that would be awesome, That would be awesome.
What is his older what does his older brother do?

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Not quite he used to be a mechanic.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
I'm not quite sure what he does now, but we
went to Cosby High School together in Chesterfield, and his
brother went there and transferred.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
To James River.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
That's awesome, that's very cool. That's very cool.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Yes, I just talked to Zach, so he should be
trying to.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Call in what I'm Zach the You know what I
would not be good at. I would not be good
at being the sibling of a professional athlete because the
answer to my own question would be, oh, he doesn't
do anything. He just sits at home and begs his
brother for money. That would be me.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Dude.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
That's about right.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
All right, dude, I appreciate it. Thank you, my friend. Hey, hey,
can I can I switch and go down the line four?
All right, make sure we leave a line open for
VINNI hi Elliott in the morning watch I want passed
with Tino. I'll get d VINGO. I'm sorry? Yes, who
is this?

Speaker 3 (09:48):
My name is Scott?

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Yes, Scott? What can I do for you?

Speaker 4 (09:52):
Wait?

Speaker 1 (09:52):
You're not Scott defamers?

Speaker 3 (09:54):
No, that's my brother.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Shut up? Are you serious? Yeah? Am I saying the
name wrong?

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Correct? Yes? You are?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Oh my apologies? Oh so is everybody's sitting there going?
I know Scott Devers. I don't know, Scott Devours. Are
we talking about the same person?

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Does your brother? Your brother's a drummer. He's got a
pretty cool job.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Are you you want me to? Are you just going
to connect the two of us like.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Merge the call, I say, text him and told him
you were talking about him on the radio.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Would he have any idea? Who the hell I am?

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Yeah? Absolutely? Around here everybody knows who you are.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Well, you're far too kind. No, your brother is the
drummer for.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
The Who's un.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yes, but now is he? But the I was reading it,
so I was reading a story about him, and and
forgive me, I had no idea that that he that
he grew up in in in in Frederick or went
to Middletown High School. The story of the story of
how he ends up drumming for the Who is amazing.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Yeah, yes it is.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
He has to have been in bands before. So was
he on the Farewell Run they just did?

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (11:18):
So?

Speaker 2 (11:18):
But what what bands was he in prior to this?

Speaker 3 (11:22):
I was in Probably one of the bigger ones would
be o Leander. I don't know if you remember them
or not.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Why I'm here was a big single for them.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Yeah, yeah, holy.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Good that that was a big band for a while.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yeah, but no offense. It ain't the Who, I understand.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
But he's also not well.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
No, no, no he's not. He's not Keith Moon no, no,
but the but now, so the story that I was
reading like at some point like he had a job
and everything and he was you'll correct me if I'm wrong.
He was a big music guy and was like, efet,
I'm packing up and I'm moving to La correct and
didn't he wasn't He doing like some gig with some

(12:00):
who had a connection to the Who, and I think
it was a collaborator with the Who. And they played
they were playing a bunch of cover songs and one
of the songs they played was a WHO song, and
your brother was like, I gotta crush it on this song.
The guy is you know, he collaborates with them. And
then that guy whoever it was like called like called

(12:20):
Roger Daltrey and was like found our drummer.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Yep, yeah, and then he yeah, he played with Robert
for a long time. That's a band.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
That's awesome. I love the story. It's great. I had
no idea. Yeah, absolutely, Now can I ask you this,
Do you do anything for everyone in Middletown know this?

Speaker 2 (12:43):
He's treating it like it's.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Does everybody you know know that your brother is the
drummer for the Who?

Speaker 3 (12:50):
No?

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Oh? Does everybody.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Close friends? Sure?

Speaker 1 (12:56):
Was it a family secret that we were trying not
to let out?

Speaker 3 (13:00):
No?

Speaker 1 (13:00):
No, okay, now let me ask you this. This is
really more about you knowing that you have a brother
that's in the Who. And did the tour? Did you
take on the role of sibling that I would take
on and do absolutely nothing but just say, hey, can
you throw me some cash?

Speaker 4 (13:22):
No?

Speaker 3 (13:22):
He did invite me to one of the shows.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
How about like to several of the shows and fly
me there?

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Well, I got to go to work just like you.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Then go yeah, no, I hear you. Hey, listen, I'm
glad that I appreciate you sending him a text. Hopefully,
hopefully he'll be uh, what is it six o'clock out
in LA. He should be good. Hey, does he come
back to the area often.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
He's down in Virginia, I believe right now.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Oh, so he's on our coast. Oh, then he should
get it all right? Call him all right, very good,
very good? Hey, I appreciate it. Thank you, sir, thank you.
How awesome is that?

Speaker 2 (13:57):
So when there was all that drama with Zach Starky
like Ringo's son correct with Scott, Scott clearly was already
linked to the band.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Oh god, yeah, So.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
When when when Zach was in and out with Scott
sitting there like.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
I would assume, so, I mean he his whole thing
is that from what I was reading. The little bit
I was reading, was like like he he like he
says like you know, like yes, obviously you look up
and you go Keith Moon, Jesus Christ. Right, And then
there's Zach Starry. He says about Starr, He's like, I
admired the guy, Like and he's a drummer. He's like,
I admired the guy. I hope he doesn't hate me.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Oh sure, I could see worrying about that.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Yeah, of course. But it's not like it's not like
they went to Starkey and they were like, hey, we're
gonna kick you out and the.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Who side of the story are you reading?

Speaker 1 (14:52):
No? No, no, But you know what I mean, he
didn't come in gunning for his job. I guess the
way of saying sound like that at least in the interview.
It's it's not like he was like kick Starky out
that prick, Like there was none of that.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
And how old did you say, Scott is?

Speaker 1 (15:08):
I want to say he's in his.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
He's fifty eight.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
I thought he was in his forties. Is he fifty eight? Okay,
that's a big difference. He's fifty eight. I just found
it played in a number of bands throughout the years.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
That is awesome, unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Could you imagine? I can't. Could you imagine, like Won't
get fooled Again? Bob O'Reilly? Like any of those like
songs where you're like these are like there are who
songsless and then there are whose songs? What's that? What's

(15:51):
that first show like where you're like holy oh d Yeah,
Like there's the keyboard yep nine three. It's not Scott.
It's also not Vinnie. Hi, Elliott the.

Speaker 7 (16:05):
Morning Tray Scott This, I mean, sorry Elliott?

Speaker 3 (16:09):
Is this name?

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Hi?

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Who's this?

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (16:13):
My name is Vince. I've known Scott since we were thirteen.
We grew up in middle school and high school together
and I was in drum line with him for seven years.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
I guess, well, I know which one was first chair
and which one wasn't.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Well, we'll hold on.

Speaker 7 (16:27):
Yeah, Scott was definitely uh yeah, he was definitely. Well
it is definitely way better than me.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
But did you at any point appear on the hot
one hundred.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
No, I did not.

Speaker 7 (16:39):
I am pumping my son does because my son is
a drummer now.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Is he really fun when he was a year and
a half. Yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 7 (16:47):
Trying to push him. He's got YouTube channel on writing
his own stuff and things like that. So yeah, we
just saw Scott up in Philly, uh what like a month.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Or two ago.

Speaker 7 (16:59):
It was pretty cool because the first show, the first
show was canceled and so we were up in Philadelphia anyway,
I was checking down my hotel when I got a
call from another friend letting us know it was canceled.
So we just met up at a bar and we're
hanging out with him the whole time, went over to
the casino and everything. It was really cool, and then
of course went back up when they did the show
a few weeks later, and uh, that was really neat too,

(17:21):
because it's the first time I've ever you know, went
to the bar with him and then walked over to
the venue with him to right before he was playing.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
So it's pretty cool, dude, that's awesome. That's awesome.

Speaker 7 (17:34):
And is that is that the I'm a little confused
because I've known him since he was thirteen, and unless
his mother remarried, he doesn't have a brother.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
He did say stepbrother.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Uh oh that guy step brother? Oh okay, yeah, I
thought the same thing, like this smelled stitchy thee.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Now I knew his sister too.

Speaker 7 (17:53):
Unfortunately, his sister died of an brand and you're asmu
a few years ago.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
To hear that the all right, yeah, the hey can
I can I back to this video we're watching him
from the show you were at, sir, where this is
him drumming. Won't get fooled again?

Speaker 1 (18:06):
When you saw him when you saw him in Philly?
Was it was? It was that? The only was that
the first time you saw him drumming with the Who
with the Who?

Speaker 7 (18:17):
Yeah, because he did back in twenty thirteen. That was
having I believe it was ten to Night of Surgery, right,
and he played with the Who for a European tour,
for a Quadrophenia tour, correct, and that the highlight of
that for him was Neil Peart sent him a symbol
congratulating him on getting his dream job. Somewhere on my phone,

(18:37):
I have a picture of that symbol.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
God.

Speaker 7 (18:39):
So yeah he got, he got, and Neil like one
of his obviously drumming heroes that you.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Know what that's like, that's like Rick d is doing
sweepers for the show.

Speaker 7 (18:51):
Yeah, he's the one of He's the one that kind
of well, my cousin, my cousin's and drummer also, but
between my cousin and Scott kind of got me into rush. Uh,
you know, we listened to a lot of different stuff together.
But yeah, great guy, Hey when you usually first person
I ever smoked weed with him, right on.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Right on the but here, here's what I wanted to
ask you. And like you said, he did the European
tour and that's fine, right, but seeing him in seeing
him in Philly was was the first time that you
saw him perform with the who is It? And obviously listen,
you grew up with the guy. I believe you may
have smoked weed with the guy. You know that he's
a drummer and he moved out to la and the

(19:28):
whole thing and the whole story is it still and
you met him at the bar and you walked over
to the venue at any point? Is it weird though
to hear babo O'Reilly or we won't get fooled again
and look up on stage and be like, oh my god,
it's my buddy.

Speaker 8 (19:42):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (19:42):
Yes, and no because we saw him.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (19:45):
I've seen him twice with Roger Daltrey at Wolf Traps.
So I have seen him play with Roger.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Before, right, Okay, that's fair.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
And I've seen him. I've seen him play. I've seen
him play so many times. His step brother mentioned Oleander.
I've seen him with Oleander. I've seen him with a
band called Speaker of course bands in high school, growing up,
he's played at parties.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Okay, so you.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Know what you are.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
You're the guy. You're the guy that's bored of screwing
the good looking woman. Yeah, I get it, I get it.

Speaker 7 (20:11):
None of this is specially a very He is a very,
very humble guy. So I did send him a text message,
but you know he's he's pretty modest. So I don't
know if you'll I don't know if i'll hear back
from him, but if I do, I'll let him know you're.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Looking for him. Hey, I appreciate it. Thank you, my friend,
Thank you, sir. Not a problem you got's the symbol?

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Yes, Scott has it on his Instagram. But do you
see the messaging is a little different than the caller said.
It's actually hilarious.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yeah, so this and this from Neil pert Peart to
Scott you stole my dream gig. Wow, incredible, God, that
is awesome.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Now is squats on the line or it sounds like
we might not hear from Scott.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
No, let's see line one. Is that is that passquatch? Hi?
Ellie in the morning? Hello?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Hi?

Speaker 4 (21:17):
Hell? Hello?

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Hello?

Speaker 1 (21:18):
No, that's correct, Hello, Yeah, just me? Yeah? Who's this?
This is Walter? Oh is Walter? Is Vinny short for Walter?

Speaker 4 (21:32):
All right?

Speaker 8 (21:33):
All right, all right, all right, I'll give you I'll
give you a quick So about fifteen years ago I
took a job uh in San Francisco, and my boss
turned out to be the laser guy for the who
He did all the laser shows.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Okay, all right, you know what, we're making headway. We
are making headway. So we went from grew up with
him and smoked weed with him for the first time
to my boss was the laser guy for the Who,
which means the next line obviously would be Scott Devers, right, Scott.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Hello, Hello, Hey, yeh here.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
How are you, dude?

Speaker 3 (22:12):
I assume this is Elliott?

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
It is.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Very honored.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
I'm very honored.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
I just my phone just blew up with everyone telling
me Elliot's talking about you right now.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
I'm like, are you kidding me? No? So I was.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
I was reading a story yesterday about all about you
and kind of I didn't know your whole background obviously
and how you like it was. It wasn't a very
long article, but an article that got me from you
go into uh, Middletown High School to ending up being
the drummer with with with the Who. It's fascinating to me.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
Yeah, that's the truncated version. There's a lot of misery
and struggling in between those.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Two highlights or low lights. But yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
Guess you know, that's that's the easy way to put it.
Started at Middletown, ended up with the Who.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Never would have expected that.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
The you know what part of the story I really
liked though, is so I'm reading about how old were you?
So you graduate from school and obviously, like you you're
into music and you're playing music and you're you're kind
of kicking around. How old were you when you packed
up and moved to LA.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
I think I was around twenty four twenty five years old,
and I just I had tried right out of high
school at seventy eighteen years old. I threw my drums
in the car, moved to New York City like a
crazy person with no money, no place to say, knew nothing,
had no qualifications, didn't know anybody. I mean, it was
a terrible plan. And New York City ate me alive.

(23:47):
And then I tried to build up a normal life
and get a job and get a house and get
a four to one k and then all of a sudden,
it just dawned on me like, oh, if this is
everything life has to offer, I'm not going to be
a happy person. So basically I just got rid of everything,
hopped in my car, drove my drums to Los Angeles,
and now I'm here talking to you.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yeah, I mean real, honestly, I mean everything else, like
everything else that happened, who oleander whatever. No, that's awesome though,
the so, but I love that part of the story
where you just realized, you know, what's it's the whole
I never want I never want a second guess myself
and you or I never want to play that game

(24:30):
of what if? And you just said effort and listen.
It could have gone the way of New York, right
where the whole city ate you alive and you didn't
know what was going to happen, and then you end
up out there and obviously it seems like it went
pretty well. I love that part of the story.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Yeah, when you.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
Read it just as highlights, it reads pretty well, but
there's a lot of struggle and going nowhere and crappy
gigs and you know, a lot of unemployed, low low
moment and you know, it's not like it's all highlights,
but that's life. You know. Sometimes sometimes it all works out,
and sometimes it's just a slog and it's very difficult

(25:10):
to stay positive for a lot of people. It certainly
was for me. But all of a sudden, one little,
you know, one little hookup, one little connection to a person,
one little gig led to this led to that, and
then led to playing with someone who played with Roger
Roger Daltrey Rye who and I played one Who song
with him and a friend of mine who played with
Joe Walsh, and it was just, you know, a little

(25:33):
cover gig. And after we played that Who song, my
friend his name is Frank Simes. I'll be indebted to
him forever. He turned to me and he was like,
that was great. I'm going to get you an audition
with Roger. And of course, you know, being from La,
I actually was born in La and then I had
been there for fifteen years. At that point, when someone says, hey,

(25:53):
I know somebody. Hey, I'm going to get you an audition. Hey,
I know somebody at Arista Records or whatever, they say,
you hear that about a hundred times, and ninety nine
times out of one hundred that they're just talking right right,
So I guess I didn't take him very seriously when
he said that. So really, what I was trying to
do is, you know, remain humble because I felt really
good about playing that one Whose song and I thought

(26:15):
that's as.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Far as it would go.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
So when he said he'd get me an audition with Roger,
I know I gave him the impression of like, yeah, sure,
And I didn't mean it like that. I was just
trying to stay cool, and he's like, no, I'm really
gonna I'm really gonna get you an audition. I was like, well,
you know, thanks for saying that. He's like, you don't
believe me, do you?

Speaker 3 (26:33):
No? No, I totally believe you. Believe me.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
I trust every word that you say is true. I
just you know, you don't want to get your hopes up. Yeah,
especially with a legend like Roger So And fast forward
to now, now I'm playing with the Who, which is insane.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Doesn't it like you know what? And I mean listen,
it's it's not like you've done like, oh, I did
one show and I'm done. It still has to unless
and you're I can tell you this in the in
the five minutes we've we've been talking, you're a far
more humble person than I am. It still has to
It still has to feel weird to say. And now

(27:07):
I'm drumming with the Who, it still has to sound weird.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
It does again. I really don't think it's set in.
I mean you have to also imagine, you know, Zach Starkey,
who's Ringo star Son. Everyone in the WHO world knows
who that is? Probably everyone in the world knows Who.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
That is, He's.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
He'd been playing with The Who for about thirty years,
and you know, he's one of my heroes. He's one
of the most incredible drummers ever and next to Keith Moon,
he's my favorite drummer and the Who. So we all
know the whole public thing that went on with you know,
him no longer playing with the Who. So that was
a whole complicated mindfield of emotions. And I don't mean

(27:47):
to make that about me, but as far as my
part in this with him no longer playing with them,
which is as a hoofan for myself, I'm sad, right,
I'm sad for him, I'm sad for them. And then,
of course, you know, I learned about playing with the
Who from a post, an Instagram post from Pete Cats
and Who just he just put it on his Instagram.

(28:08):
Scott will be joining us on our you know, our
farewell tour, fair farewell us tour.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Wait a minute, Scott, that's how you found out you
got the job.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
I know that sounds like I'm making that up, but
my wife can attest to this. I had come home
from a few Roger shows, a few fly dates, and
I was, you know, It's back to life as usual.
And I'm scooping the cat poop and throwing the trash
and putting the cans out for recycling. And then all
of a sudden, my phone starts blowing up and I
get a message from a dear friend of mine, the

(28:41):
violinist Katie Jacobi, who plays with The Who and she
also plays with Roger, and she was like, hey, congrats.
I'm like, oh, well, cool, thanks for what. She's like
the post and she wrote the post. I was like,
Washington Post, what are you talking about post? I had
no idea what.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
She was talking about.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
She's like, no, Pete.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
I'm like Pete Who. She's like, Pete Townsends just mentioned
you on Instagram. Of course, my wife knows that I'm
terrible with Instagram. I barely even know Facebook at this point.
So I go sprinting up the steps and she walked
out of her office and I throw my phone to
her and I was like, make Instagram work up. She's like,

(29:23):
oh my god, you're playing with WHO. And that's how
I found out.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Dude, that's awesome. That's awesome. By the way, Tyler just
pulled up the Pete Townsend post and yeah, there it
is after many years of great work on drums from Zach,
the time has come for a change, a poignant time.
Zach has lots of new projects in hand, and I
wish him the best. Scott Devers, who has worked with

(29:48):
Roger solo band, will join the Who for our final shows.
Please welcome him, all right, very good? Well welcome.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
And the funny thing is, like I said, I didn't
know Instagram well. From the time that Katie had texted
me that, I just kept getting these notifications like somebody
following you, following you, following I mean just hundreds of
people just following me. I didn't even know what that meant. Why,
And then of course I realized Pete Townsands just said
I've got my dream gig, but you know, he just

(30:18):
said it publicly and I've never even got a call.
And I'm like, okay, I'm doing it.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
But now I want you to be honest with me,
like the like you said, like you you were with
with uh with Roberts well Roger, excuse me, I'd call
him ro Roger Daldry's like his band and doing his thing.
Were you were you when when you played your first
WHO show? Were you were you scared.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
No, it's it's counterintuitive to say this, or it might
even come up egotistical, and I certainly don't mean it
that way. But playing drums or you know, anyone who
does what they do where they feel comfortable, or does
something that they think they do well, that gives you,
you know, a little bit of self confidence. It gives
you a sense of your self awareness. Growing up, I

(31:08):
was really really uh, you know, paranoid, and it was
hard to talk to i'man even way more. I'm way
more nervous talking to you right now on the radio
than I am sitting behind, you know, the drums with
Pete and Rodgs in front of twenty thousand people. If
you put sticks in my hand and you put me
out on stage, I just don't get nervous. It's just

(31:30):
where I feel comfortable.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
Now.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
If you put a microphone in front of my face
and make me talk to a million people like you're
doing right now.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
That would be I could appreciate that. I get that.
That makes sense to me. That makes sense to me. Yeah,
So what where are you now? Where am I catching
you now?

Speaker 4 (31:50):
My wife and I you know, we have our tough
away country place down in Virginia, and then we come
up to DC all the time. Her father lives in Bethesda, Wow,
and he's older now, so we go up there all
the time.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
She's there right now. And then we also basically.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
Consider ourselves New Yorkers, so we split our time between
those three places where we're very lucky.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Well that who money buys a couple of houses, done it? No, coming, Hey,
last last thing. The other thing that we saw that
was awesome is you're you're you're. One of your buddies
had had called us and was telling us the symbol
that you got autographed from Neil Peart. Dude, that's freaking awesome.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
Oh my god, wow, who I didn't you know, I'm
not local right now, so I didn't get to hear
any of these people calling in all a side note
for a second, while I was waiting on hold, all
I heard was I smoked pot with him when he
sounded Let me just say, whoever called that in?

Speaker 1 (32:53):
Fake call? Fake call?

Speaker 8 (32:57):
Anyway, anyway, I'm sorry, I.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Totally forgot your question. No, No, the symbol the symbol
from Neil Peart.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
That So this gonna sound confusing, But I had actually
played with The Who before this Farewell tour. In twenty thirteen,
Zach had a flare up with his tendonitis. Ne had
to take some time off while they were touring Quadrophenia,
and that's a whole another story. I don't even need
to go into that. So I had played with them
twenty thirteen twenty fourteen for about ten or fifteen shows,

(33:29):
which was incredible, life changing, extremely difficult, because you know,
Quadrophenia is quite a complicated thing. And back then, this
is obviously when Neil was I think he was even
still touring with Rush. I had I think I only
had two weeks to get ready for that Quadraphenia tour,
and so I had called my my my symbol, rap

(33:54):
At Saban Symbols who have been with for years and
fantastic Christian Stanky, my amazing guy. I called him and
he's like, yeah, yeah, we got to whatever you need here,
you know.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
Oh, And he said at the end of.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
The phone call, he's like, oh, uh, check your check.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
For a FedEx tomorrow. I'm like, oh, okay.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
And then I went back to studying and trying to
get ready for Quadrophenia. And then the next day I
get the FedEx. It's a little tiny package. It's a
little eight inch a ten inch splash symbol and it
was Neil Peart's signature Paragon Sabian Line, and he just
so happened to be sitting. He's friends with, or he

(34:33):
was friends with Chris at Sabians. They had a very
closer relationship and they're actually they were very close friends.
But I didn't know when I called Chris that he
was having lunch with Neil Pears. So he got off
the phone apparently shared that with him, like, oh, this guy,
he's going to be playing with the who. So Neil
incredibly generously hand wrote a message on one of his splashsmbles.

(34:56):
This actually gets me a little emotional, and it said
congrat So I'm stealing my dream gig, right, that's awesome,
And he signed it and he sent it to me
and it was absolutely the most touching thing ever. I
still it's one of the only things to have on
my wall.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
That's amazing. That's amazing. All right, So listen, Scott, here's
what I want to do. I would offer you a shirt,
but that sounds kind of lame coming off of the
Neil Peart symbol, so we'll just leave that. But hold
tight one second. The I promise we won't abuse the number.
But the I'm so glad that you called. I'm so

(35:31):
pleased that you called.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
Oh, thank you so much, and thank you for wasting.

Speaker 7 (35:36):
Time on air with me.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
No, it's awesome. I love the story. Hey, hold tight
one second, all right, Scott, Yeah, you got it. You
gotta hold on one second. Oh my god, how awesome
is that?

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Amazing?

Speaker 1 (35:49):
How awesome is that?

Speaker 2 (35:51):
It just seems like such a good guy. Yeah, are a.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
Little egotistical, little little full of himself. Yeah. I think
it's a bigger deal than he does.
