Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey guys, welcome to another week Maximize Living Radio with
your host, doctor Greg O'Neil, co owner and operator lit
Its Family Chiropractic. And Yeah, I've been doing this radio
show now for what almost ten years. It's crazy. So
it's I really enjoy doing it. People always say like, wow,
you're really people coming from the radio, like you sound
like you're having fun. I'm like, yeah, it's like sixty

(00:21):
percent venting, forty percent advertising, you know, maybe another ten
percent fun. Whatever the math is on that, I'm giving
it one hundred and ten percent. All right. So this
week I'm going to be talking about true wellness care.
That's a buzzword that gets thrown around a lot, like
what is to be truly well? What does that look like? Now?

(00:43):
The traditional standpoint would be free of symptoms. Now this
is where the allopathic or the medical model comes into play,
and they've tried to hijack this word and I'm not
going to let them. Don't take it medicine, You've taken
a lot other things. And they start calling your doctors.
It's well checks. Worst part is they call children's pediatric

(01:05):
visits well checks, and they check their height, they check
their weight, they check their ears, eyes, ears, nose, throats,
and I get it for some of those things, But
then the main purpose of a well visit for kids
is what getting a vaccine? You go to adulthood, what's
the main purpose of a well check? For adults? They go,

(01:27):
especially once they get over the age of fifty five.
A lot of people go over like three months. Well
you get blood work done, and if there's any issue
with that blood work, what are you getting medications? And
then at certain times of the year, what are they
trying to give you vaccines? In my estimation, in my opinion,

(01:47):
well checks are a way to funnel people into the
pharmaceutical drug system, to get people and babies and kids
on drugs at a young age dependent on the medical
system for their health and calling that wellness. Now that
I get out many words for that, but at so

(02:09):
many levels that's just wrong. From a logical standpoint, that's wrong,
which we'll focus on. From a social standpoint, that's wrong,
and just like yeah, it's first of all, one of
the reasons this long logical standpoint now doesn't work. Okay, medicine, chemicals, vaccines,
they can't just automatically make you healthy. It might change

(02:29):
your blood work might change your scores and blood levels
and things like that, but it's not fixing underlying issues
that can only be done by you through your healthy lifestyle.
Your healthy lifestyle. So there's main contributors to your lifestyle.
So two of those contributors are age and genetics. Okay,

(02:52):
those are two things you cannot control. But those are
the two things that medicine, the medical world will bring
up a lot, and people want to fall into those
two things as excuses because it's easier that way. They say, well,
you're getting older now, so you'd recommend this flu shot,
or you at this age, I'd recommend this vaccine, or
at this age, I'd recommend this medication. And then you

(03:16):
look at genetics. While your father had heart disease, so
I'd recommend this pill, or your mother had diabetes, I
would recommend this. You can't control those things. What can
you control? You control your lifestyle. So that's the way
that you're eating, obviously, exercising, the way that you think
through your mindset, the way that you're avoiding different toxins

(03:39):
like with household cleaners or with cookwaar, things like that.
Chiropractic care in the nervous system, taking care of your
spine and nervous system. These are all factors that you
play a part in. So you notice when people come
to our office, you talk on my radio show, it's
very different. It's not just about age and genetics. You're
old and you're defective. That's what the medical system says.

(04:00):
We say, God created your body to heal. God put
an amazing healing power in your body. Our job is
to remove interference from the body and give the bodies
the best ability to heal itself. We can't help the body.
All we can really do is get in the way,
and that's thro our lifestyle. So what we want to
do is not just get out of the way, but
actually give our body what it needs so that it

(04:21):
can thrive in the best environment. One famous example I
love this story. In Death Valley in California, otherwise known
as the Mojave Desert, there's a place called the Devil's Furnace,
the hottest place on planet or a highest recorded temperature.
I believe it got up to one hundred and thirty
four degrees fahrenheit or one hundred and thirty six somewhere

(04:43):
around there. Super hot, so nothing grows there. It's hot, dry, arid,
it's a desert. There's many years, there's been many separate
years where it does not rain a single drop throughout
the year, not one millimeter, which is almost hard to
think of for me living in Likeas County, where we
get plenty of precipitation. That goes with my joke. It's like,

(05:05):
what follows two days of rain in Lancaster County Monday?
I'll repeat that. That's a good one. What follows two
days of rain in Lancaster County Monday? One of my favorites.
Rain's a lot on Saturdays around here, by the way,
just my observation. Okay, getting back to Death Valley, but
nothing grows completely hot, dry arid, dreamly hot, torching heat.

(05:28):
December two thousand and four. You can look this up
if you'd like. It rains seven inches in about a
five week period. They'd never seen them a rain before
in over one hundred and fifty years, so they're wondering,
what's going to happen here? You got all this rain,
what's going to happen? Sure enough? April two thousand and five,
you can look this up. The two thousand and five
wildflower bloom of Death valley. The wildlife just explodes, the wildflowers,

(05:54):
grasses explodes everywhere, beautiful colors. You can see these pictures.
It's just amazing. Few months earlier, you see a hot,
dry desert where nothing's there. Then all of a sudden,
it just looks like a beautiful meadow with a valley
and hills and everything. It's wonderful. Well, what happened. The
seeds were already there, The genetics, if you will, were

(06:15):
already there. God put those seeds of possibility are there
in the ground. What did it need? It needed the nourishment,
it needed, the rain, It needed to be in the
right climate. It's the same thing with your body. You're
not defective. You're not broken just because mommy and Daddy
had something, just because grandma and grandpa had something. Just
because you look at the calendar and you see a

(06:35):
certain age or your birthday, that doesn't mean that you're
broken and that nothing good can happen. God put a
power in you to heal. But you, you, you, you must
put yourself in the right conditions and take care of
yourself in a certain way for your body to thrive.
For your body to thrive, Now human beings, we've become

(06:57):
so disconnected from our natural environment. Connected like you see
animals somehow, and a dog knows to go eat grass
when it's feeling sick, or that a dog knows to
stretch before it goes on a long walk. They have
built in instincts that they're very attuned to. As human beings,
we have become so disconnected from our natural inclinations that

(07:17):
we don't It seems like scientists can't even agree on
what we should eat for breakfast. It's like we can
tell if there's water on a planet chillions of white
years away, but we can't. Hey, what do we what
should eat for breakfast? We don't know, We have no idea.
How is that the case? Well, there's principles that we
need to focus on, not fads, not trends, Principles bedrocks

(07:38):
of information that we have to know in a lot
of ways, Biblical principles too, of how our bodies are
designed to work and what are the things our bodies need,
what are the things they don't need? And one of
the big building blocks of that is through our nutrition,
the way that we're eating and choosing to take care

(07:58):
of our body, through our food, blessing our body through
our food because our body is a temple and we
don't want to tarnish it with the food that we're eating. Now,
in biblical sense, you know, can can food defile the body?
And the Bible? In many ways it says no. There's
many different interpretations, but at the end of the day,
here's the thing is that you want to eat foods

(08:19):
that your body is designed to use. It's not about
defiling your body through food. I'm not going to go
down that road like some other people do. But it's
about having bodies that are having bodies that are healthy
through the nutrition that you're eating, and eating good quality
nutrition that your body needs so your body can heal
and function at one hundred percent. So that comes from carbohydrates,

(08:40):
that comes through fat, that comes through protein, and when
you get the right quantity and quality of each of
those three, you're going to see amazing things happen to
your body, not only with how you feel, but your wakefulness,
your energy, and also yeah, you can start to lose weight,
shed pounds, get in the best shape of your life
just through the food that you're eating. So stay tune,

(09:00):
we'll talk about that all guys, Welcome back to the show,
Doctor Greg O'Neil, Maximize Living Radio lit Its Family Chiropractic.
Please check out our website lit Its Family Chiropractic dot com,
newly updated with new pictures of our staff and better yet,
new pictures of our office. We have a newly renovated office,

(09:21):
so it's spacious. Yeah, it's it's been great. I've I've
been saying this for the last few weeks, but it's
it's it's state of the art. It's really cool. There's
so much more space. It's very functional, but it also
has a good vibe to it and you just feel
like it's a healing environment. Now. One thing that we
do is when new patients come in, we show them

(09:42):
around kind of like a tour, kind of like you know,
you go to someone's house and you ever go to
someone's house, maybe you just met them and invite you
over and you walk in, You're like, do I leave
my shoes on or off? Where's the bathroom? Where am
I allowed to go? What do I do? But isn't
it when you go to someone's house they're like, hey,
you know you can put your shoes here here, let

(10:04):
me take your coat for you. You can set that
over here. Kitchen, feel free to grab whatever you'd like.
Bathrooms are over here, Come on, make yourself at home.
Let me show you around. It just gives people an
opportunity to not feel that awkwardness of like where do
I go, what do I do? What are the expectations here?
So one thing that we do that I implemented, you know,
years and years ago, was giving people like a brief

(10:24):
tour of the space. So I'd show people around. It's
like welcome, you know, here's our adjusting areas, here's the
kids play areas, here, front desk, reception, here's a bathroom,
here's X ray room, here's exam room. Let me show
you everything that's going on. So they kind of get
the lay of the land. And in our old space,
people like okay, cool, yeah, but in the new space

(10:45):
it's kind of it's nice. I've been doing the tours
lately because one of our staff members was out on
maternity leave, and I'm showing people around and not really
mentioning any more that we did in renovation because this
was done months ago. Because I used to be like, oh,
the space is newly renovated and everything like that. I
don't say that because it's just kind of normal now, right,
But man, I'll look at people, I'm like, wow, this

(11:07):
is like, this is a really nice space. This is
beautiful office. Like every single person this week that I
was showing around so like, was good, good affirmation. I
just want to share that it's like the facilities like
we've When you come, you'll you'll notice it's like we're
not just your Joe Blow chiropractic office. I'm not trying
to make fun of anyone or put myself above, but

(11:27):
it's like we put a lot of time, energy, and yes,
money and resources into making sure that our chiropractic office,
I believe is one of the best in the state
or none. And the reason I say that is because
my wife and I we've both been adjusted at a
young age. I've been adjusted since I was thirteen years old.

(11:47):
My wife's been adjusted since she was a baby, since
she was ten days old. We met in chiropractic school.
We have three young children at home who have all
been adjusted the first day of their lives. They get
adjusted weekly. I get adjusted weekly, my wife gets suggested weekly.
Our whole staff. This isn't just like some thing that
we do. It's not just some job. It's it's a mission,

(12:08):
it's a lifestyle. It's the way that we take care
of ourselves. And anything that I'm telling you to do,
we're recommending that you do. I've already done. I've already
done thousands, if not millions of times to take care
of myself and my own family. And how many doctors
can say that. How many doctors when they're telling you
to take this pill, or take this shot, or do

(12:29):
all these things, how many of them are doing that themselves.
I don't know. I don't know the case. But it's
it's just it's called integrity, and that's a big one
for me. I think that's my love language. Integrity. It's like,
you mean what you say, and say what you mean.
And so I just want to let you know that
if you decide to come in our office, we're going
to take care of you just like I would, you know,
my family member or my cousin or whomever. But we're

(12:51):
going to make sure you get the best quality care.
So if you'd like to make an appointment, please give
our office a call. Seven one seven six zero three
sixty five seven one seven six two seven zero three
sixty five. Again, go on our website Lititzfamily Chiropractice dot
com request and appointment. Be sure to let us know

(13:13):
that you hurt us on the radio or podcast. You
do get fifty percent off the first visit exam any
necessary X rays will only be seventy dollars, So that
includes a fifty percent discount and only its one hundred
and forty. You get it for seventy dollars. Common question
people have is what about insurance. We're a network with
a few insurance companies in the area. Bring your insurance

(13:34):
card or cards with you on your first visit. We
will call and verify your coverage for you, let you
know by the following visit exactly what's going on. It's
a super simple process. The hardest thing to do is
making the first appointment, So if you have any inkling
about it, I'd recommend just calling. So it's seven one
seven six two seven zero three six five. All right,

(13:56):
let's get back into true wellness care. True wellness care,
I was going over definitions at the start, is not
just going to a medical doctor every three months and
sucking down a bunch of pills. That's not wellness care.
That's allopathic. That's taking care of things after the fact.
That's emergent care, where you're trying to find problems and
then covering up those problems with pills. Now, those things

(14:19):
that you think are problems are not really problems. They're symptoms. Okay,
So if you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol,
or back pain or neck pain, or headaches, or neuropathy
or fibromyalgia or type two diabetes, they're all symptoms. They're
all symptoms, they're signals, they're fire alarms letting you know

(14:41):
that there's something else going on that needs to be addressed.
So there's two approaches here. You can either cover up
the symptom and you feel better short term. You hurt
your body long term and it just doesn't work. And
when I've talked about that ad nauseum on this show.
Or you can find out what's causing those symptoms, dress
those underlying factors and lifestyle issues, correct those issues so

(15:05):
that your body can heal and function at one hundred percent.
Now it's logical, it makes sense, and it seems like
everyone kind of knows that now, like this isn't like
a new thing. Like when I explain this to people,
you know, medicine covers things up and taking these things.
People nod their head like they know, but there's a
difference between knowing and doing, and so we got to

(15:27):
go from the knowing or thinking that you know, to
the doing. And this reminds me of my dad. Even
when I would say this, like if I was getting
in trouble, my dad would be like, don't do it,
like why are you doing that? You know you shouldn't
be doing that. I'd say, Oh, I know, I know,
I know, I can't I shouldn't do that, and then
he would always say that the famous lines no you
don't know, No, you don't know, because if you knew,

(15:49):
then you would do better, and that you know that
always stuck with me, and it's true. It's like, if
you actually knew it, you would do it. If you
knew it, you would do it. So don't let's not
lie to ourselves here, because then you create what's called incongruencies,
and then you're at odds with your body and that
can lead to I believe things like elements of guilt

(16:12):
and shame and depression is when you believe or think
one thing and then do do another thing. Now, the
big heady language for this is it's called believe. It's
called cognitive dissonance, the difference between your subconscious mind and
your conscious mind, and if they're at odds with each other,
you can have all sorts of symptoms. So if you
truly believe that you should be eating while exercising, all

(16:33):
this kind of stuff, but yet with your actions you're
taking pills, you're ignoring your body, you're too busy or
too whatever, then you're not You're at odds with yourself,
and that becomes a problem biblically that you know, the
double minded man is wicked in all his ways. Obviously
that's coming from a spiritual sense, but moving that to

(16:55):
a biological physiological sense. Want to make sure that you're
congruent there, because when you are, you're like you're on.
You're on, and there's a change. You ever around someone
who's like losing weight and they're they're just like on
a mission with their health and they've changed things, don't
you notice there's a different like frequency or vibration to them.
You're like, oh my gosh, this person's like they're all

(17:15):
over it. I'm around people like that all the time,
So it's cool for me to see. I see a
lot I can tell. I can just tell when people
when it's kind of clicking for them, when things are
are and groove for them and they're doing well. I'll
see patients where they're just like everything they touch it
turns to gold. They're sleeping better, their energy is better,
they're eating well, they're meaning what they say, they're saying

(17:36):
what they mean, and things start to click and improves
all areas of your life. You just feel better. Like
that's what for me, that's what true wellness is. True
wellness is congruency and taking care of yourself so that
you can be the best version of yourself. And then
that spills over in other people because then other people like, man,
I want to I want that, I want to feel

(17:57):
like you feel. I want that energy, I want that mojo.
I want those results that you're getting, maybe you're losing
weight or exercising more. But when you first start, it's
very difficult. And this is where so many people fall off.
What do they say, like sixty seven percent of New
Year's resolutions are gone by January third because it's hard.

(18:19):
It's hard to get started. I should say, once you
get going, it's easy because you have habits in your life.
You have the habit of brushing your teeth, you have
the habit of washing your face or having a shower.
All the routines that you do throughout the day, those
are habit. You don't even have to think about it.
But when you try to introduce a new habit the
food that you're eating, maybe you're getting rid of SODA's

(18:40):
or you're getting rid of bread or pastas, and you
start trying to eat more, eat eggs, meats, fish, vegetables.
You're trying to incorporate better foods into your body and
into your kitchen. That can be difficult. And the moment
you hit that resistance, whether it's cravings or whether it's
a family member who despaired just what you're doing. Why
can't we just eat this food we want to eat.

(19:01):
When you have that resistance, your body, your nervous system
is going to turn the other way naturally. It's kind
of how our bodies work. Our bodies love homeostasis. It
loves to be in kind of a groove and get
into a habit, and we move out of that, our
bodies will automatically resist that. For me, I'll notice this

(19:23):
almost instantly whenever I start to exercise. This is why
treadmills and me do not work. I'm going to tell
you why. So if I go for a walk, like
in our neighborhood, we have a pretty good walk around
the block. It's about a mile, maybe a little bit more.
Actually it takes about a good forty minutes, so maybe
it's closer to two miles. But there's this big like

(19:43):
around the block that a lot of people do. Now
it's easier for me to do that because if I
start walking, I'm walking away from my house. It's a
lot harder for me to just like, oh I don't
want to work out, I'm gonna turn around and walk back.
You don't see that happen a lot. No, It's like,
once you start walking your somewhere, you have to finish
the loop. You're committed to it. But when you're at treadmill,

(20:06):
at least when I'm on a treadmill, I start walking,
how easy it is it just to turn it off
or to slow down, or to stop doing it, Because
all of a sudden, when I start doing it, there's
this urge for me. If you're anything like me, like
getting out of bed when it's cold outside, or getting
up and movie in the morning. It's like your body
or your nervous system almost resists that. So you have

(20:28):
to put yourself in situations to thrive. And that's what
I'm going to talk about, is that your nervous system
will associate different things in the outside world with different activities.
So your bedroom is associated with sleeping, bathroom go into
the bathroom, your kitchen with eating. So you want to
put yourself in situations so that you don't sabotage your

(20:51):
wellness habits. And then the opposite end, put yourself in
situations to enhance your wellness habits. We'll talk about that
after the breaks too. All right, guys, welcome back to
the show, Doctor Gregor Neo Maximized Living Radio talking about
wellness care, taking care of your body so that it
can take care of you. And you talking about just

(21:14):
before the break there that you really got to put
the work in, especially at the start, and that's that's
the hardest part, guys, and listen, I get it. Do
you ever go to like lose weight, and you know,
you lose the first few pounds, maybe the water weight
you start, the scale starts moving and then you get
in those next two, three, four weeks where you're just like,

(21:34):
oh my gosh, like I still feel the belly, or
I still notice my cheeks, or I still notice the
scale is not moving, like this is freaking hard, Like
it's it is like it is. So the main thing
with weight loss is consistency. It just takes time. But
then when you look back at it, like say it

(21:55):
you're six months in or five months and you're like, oh,
that wasn't too bad. But when you're in it is tough.
Think of young kids, right, So when you have young
young kids, it's the days are long, right, they say
the days are long, the years are short, and you're
up at night and you're just exhausted and they need

(22:16):
you every five seconds. Like I have three young kids.
Every year gets a little easier, every day gets a
little easier, but like bedtime is still like it's it's difficult.
They want to stay up, they don't want to go
to bed, go brush your teeth, go do this. You
go through all these routines and you're like, oh my gosh,
I just want to go to sleep, like you're you're tired.
But then when you look back, right, you're like, oh,

(22:37):
those are the best. Those are the best years. Like
you do any you look at any survey of people
who are in like nursing homes or elder care homes
and things like that, and they ask them, what were
the best years of your life? They say when they
were raising young kids, almost all of them. And they
actually had asked. There was a big survey that was
done in an elder care facility and they said, if

(23:00):
you could be any age, if you could be any age,
what age would that be? You go back and be
any age? And the answer surprised me. It was thirty six.
You'd think it'd be like, oh, I want to be
eighteen again, or twenty or whatever. No, thirty six. And
it's like, did why did they pick thirty six? Because

(23:22):
you're not you're young, you're young, but you're not like
that young. You know, you're a little older, you're whatever.
It's maximum responsibility is that when people look back at
their life, the times that they treasure the most is
when they had the most responsibility in their life. Because
when you're thirty six, that's when usually what you're building
your career, the kids are very young, like people really

(23:44):
need you at that age and that's what people want.
People naturally want that responsibility. So what I'm trying to
say is is that you can shoulder more. You can
take it on. You can absolutely do it, because when
you look back on it, you're gonna be so proud
of yourself. You're gonna look back and you say, I
did that and it wasn't easy at first, but then

(24:07):
it was easy. And you hear people say that all
the time, like, Oh, I just this is just how
I eat, this is just how I exercise. And when
you're first starting, you're like, man, is that person better
than I am? Is that person more disciplined? Does that
person have skills that I don't know? They're just in
a different place than you are right now. They were
once where you were at. I tell this to my son,

(24:28):
my middle boy, Jake. He's plays ice hockey now and
he's improved leaps and bounds. Like at the time recording this,
he's about maybe week eight or nine into the season,
and if you were to see videos of him now
versus when he started, it's like night and day. Now
I'm with him at the practices, I'm at every game
and stuff. My wife because she's with the other kids

(24:51):
she doesn't see every practice, every game, so there was
a big difference. She came to like game number one,
then she came to like game number six or seven.
She's like, oh my gosh, they've improved so much, all
the kids, and including Jake. It's just it's such a
big leap. But when he first started, he would be
hard on himself. He's like, this is like really hard,

(25:13):
and it's hard to skate and put on all this
equipment and the helmet squeezes your head and the skates
are sore because you're getting used to them. And I'll
tell them, I'll tell them the different hockey players that
are in the NHLD. I'm like, listen, when they started,
they were just like you. They had the same thing.
They probably would lay on nice and cry. They didn't
want to do that. And he's like really, I'm like yeah,

(25:34):
I'm like, no one starts out perfect. No one is
like Wayne Gretzky at six years old. It doesn't happen.
And you have to take that same thinking to your
own life. It's like, think of that person in your
life that you might look up to for health, and
you're like, man, they got it all going on. They
can do this, They can do that. They didn't start

(25:56):
that way. It was built over time. So the first
step you have to do is first step, you just
have to put yourself. What I say is in that
first couple months, you got to put yourself in the
right situations and the environment to suit yourself for success.
So I'll just tell you some things that I do.
I already shared one earlier. If I'm going to go

(26:18):
for a walk, I got to get out of the
house and go for a walk, because I you know,
my wife can do it, you know, God bless her.
She can go in the treadmill and be on there
for half an hour or an hour. I can't. I'm
going to go on there and if I'm staring at
the wall, I'm going to get off in like two minutes,
and I'm not going to get the exercise because my
brain just the way that it works. I don't know

(26:39):
if it's add or I don't know what it is.
It just doesn't work that way for me. I got
to feel like I'm moving and accomplishing something. So when
I'm out in the road and I go for a walk,
I'm I'm hitting different landmarks and goals and I'm moving along,
and then the other part is can't really turn around,
Like once you start, you got to finish the loop.
So do the loop. So get outside if you're gonna

(27:02):
go for a walk, If you can get outside, that's
the best way to do it, so that you can
actually move and there's no turning around or there's no
stepping off the treadmill. Another one is if you don't
want to cheat on your food on your plan is
get out of the kitchen. So here's my saying is
get out of the kitchen. So when I get home,

(27:24):
my hardest part, and I've shared this before. If I'm
trying to trim up lose some weight, which I am now,
I tend to gain weight in the summer, you know,
pool all that stuff, vacations. When I get home, we
do leftovers a lot. So get home from the office,
put the leftovers into the oven. It's heating up. I

(27:46):
don't use the microwave. I could do a whole show
on that, so it's heating up. Say it takes ten minutes.
I have to get out of the kitchen while that's
heating up. I'm telling you right now, get out of
the kitchen. I have to hang out there, because what
are you going to do? What is your brain associate
the kitchen with food. So if I'm standing there looking
at my phone or you know, loitering, what am I

(28:08):
gonna do? I'm gonna start snacking. So I have to
get my you know what out of the kitchen. I'll
go upstairs, you know, get into my comfortable clothes, get
out of my work clothes, go be with the kids,
go to the playroom. Do get out of that environment
so that I'm not putting myself in that situation where
temptation can really take hold. So that's one. Here's another

(28:30):
rule for you is set a kitchen's closed time. Kitchens closed.
My dad would always say this once it hit a
certain time. And because kids, when they're tired, they will
often be mistake them for hungry, mistake themselves for hungry.
Same with adults. Get to the end of the night
and kids naturally want to have high energy. When their

(28:52):
energy goes down, what do they start doing? They say,
I'm hungry. That's when I know we've not done our
job with getting them upstairs on time. Is They'll be like,
I'm hungry, I want this food, I want that food.
Just before bedtime, and I always say the same thing,
you're not hungry, you're tired. So I'm going to say
that to us as adults. Now, if it's at the

(29:12):
end of the night, you're past seven o'clock, eight o'clock
and you get hungry, you're not hungry, you're tired. You
might want to think about winding down for the night,
maybe going upstairs, getting yourself out of the kitchen, like
I said, maybe reading a book, relaxing, getting off the
screens and technology so that your body can wind down,

(29:35):
so that you can naturally be tired and give yourself
permission to be tired and not try to amp yourself
up through more food or caffeine and things of that nature.
And one of the easiest ways to do that is
to set a kitchen's clothed time, like I was saying.
So when I was little, I would go to my
dad and say I'm hungry, and he'd say, oh, kitchen's closed.

(29:57):
So your kitchen's closed at say at seven o'clock or
eight o'clock, whatever time you pick, there's a kitchen's close time.
And once the kitchen's closed, you cannot go get more food.
You're done for the night. And what that does is
that gives your body an opportunity to just start fasting.
So the best time to fast, the easiest time to

(30:18):
fast is through the night when you're sleeping, so not
waking up and eating and doing all that. If you
want to give yourself a good twelve hour fast, at
least start out with a good twelve hour fast. It's
going to start resetting so many different aspects of your health,
whether that's blood sugar, insulin levels, influence sensitivity. Also, it's

(30:40):
going to help to reduce inflammation in your body. When
you're not constantly gorging yourself on food and constantly eating.
It gives your body ability to digest the food that
you've already eaten and then start paying attention to other
areas of your body and start to heal those things.
And anecdotally, I can tell you so many different stories
of people who have you stop and reverse things like

(31:03):
degenerator of arthritis, like in their hands, like pain has
gone away, and their knees and their joints in their
neck and their shoulders just by fasting, by giving their
body a break not eating so often. You can eat
good amounts of food, but just not eating so often
so recently for me, I've been doing some intermittent fasting.

(31:24):
In fact, at the time recording this right now, I'm
intermittent fasting. So my goal is to be done eating
at seven o'clock and then to resume eating again the
next day at ten or eleven o'clock. So it's about
what a fourteen fifteen hour fast, depending on the time
of day. Now you can build yourself up and get
up to sixteen hours, some people get up to twenty hours.

(31:47):
I would recommend if you're considering doing intermittent fasting is
again start with twelve hours, so say go twelve, seven
to seven or six to six. It's pretty simple to
start with twelve and then build up from there and
you'll notice a big difference. One of the biggest differences
for me, which I'll focus on after the break here,
is fasting is a tool, a God given tool, and

(32:10):
one that God commands, as you know many times in
the Bible commanded different people to do. It allows us
to push back not only at the flesh, but also spiritually,
to sharpen our swords spiritually. And I've noticed that my
body and my mind have become more attuned with one
another through fasting and I'm not just relying on the

(32:32):
next snack or next piece of food. So stay tuned.
All right, guys, welcome back to the show. We're going
to close out the week here talking about through wellness
and how you can start taking care of yourself. I'm
going to focus on chiropractic care. There's three phases to
chiropractic care. There's acute phase, there's the acute chiropractic care.

(32:53):
And this is where I would say seventy percent of
chiropractice hangout is just like an acute care chiropractic Like,
you're in pain, I'm going to adjust you. You're going
to get out of pain. See you later when you're
in pain again. I have a few issues with that.
The main issue is then I just become a walking,
talking bottle of advil. Now it would be a healthy,

(33:15):
side effect free bottle of advil, but it's still treating
the symptom. This, in my estimation, is the path of
least resistance for chiropractors because it takes virtually it takes
zero patient education, It takes basically zero effort to do
anything else other than just say, hey, you're in pain,
come in and I'll adjust you see you later. Like

(33:37):
that's kind of easy. Now from what I know about
how chiropractical schools are set up, how I know about
how a lot of people practice. I mean, this might
be firing some shots whatever. I just know it's kind
of the easy way out, because it's not how the
majority of chiropractors take care of themselves and their kids.
Because I know chiropractors personally where the practice this way,

(34:01):
they just see people when they're in pain. Yet that
same chiropractor they themselves get adjusted once a week or
adjust their kids on a regular basis. And that was
something that stuck out for me because here's the other
one too, is a lot of acute care chiropractors. They'll
use modalities, so they're using a hot pack or a
tens unit or electric stimulation, you know, maybe hot packs,

(34:25):
all kinds of different things, and they still spend thirty minutes,
sixty minutes with the patient. I had one lady come
in and she said, you know, you don't spend that
much as much time with me. My previous chiropractor spent
two hours with me at the appointments, And it was
one of the funnier moments in practice. I just blurted out,
I go, would you guys do watch a movie together

(34:47):
or something? Other people in the waiting area just laughing.
I wouldn't even know what to do with someone for
two hours, okay, like you don't need to be And
I remember in school because they kind of they teach
you that to spend all this time to all these
time thing and you're so slow when you're in school.
But I remember once getting out in the real world
and people like, if you're spending that much time with someone,

(35:08):
you're wasting that person's time, and you're doing that just
for yourself to try to impress the patient. I was
at one conference one time and the chiropractor said, if
you're hooking your patients up to electrical stimulation and hot
pack and doing massage and doing all these things, what
are you doing when your family comes into office. Because

(35:30):
this speaker was saying, like he went to a chiropractor's office,
he was hooking the patients up to all this stuff.
Then that chiropractor's family came into the office. The wife
brought the kids in to get their adjustments. They laid
on the table, the chiropractor adjusted them, He adjusted his
wife and they left. They were in and out in
just a few minutes, and he said, I'll never get this.
He goes, if you're doing stuff like that, you're being

(35:51):
a fraud. I'm like, whoa, Because if you're doing one
thing for yourself and your family, then another thing for
the patients that's not congruent. Why and all the extras. Anyways,
that's just what I'm trying to say. Listen, you want
to go to a chiropractor that has your best interest
in mind. And I believe that the vast majority of
do that. I'm not saying that they don't, but there's

(36:13):
got to be some congruency. There is. This how they
get adjusted, this is how they take care of them
their selves. So that's where knowing their backstory, knowing where
they're coming from, that's where I'm very open and I
share it with every patient. I do a patient education
class three about three visits into care where I share
my story, my wife's story, how we came up with
our office and everything like that, and then the philosophy

(36:35):
behind what we're doing. And the philosophy is is that
you want to correct your spine, and that's part two
of chiropractic care. So Part one is symptom relief, which
we do do. We're focused on that. We want you
to be at a pain Trust me, I want those
headaches gone back, paying gone one visit would be great
if you're feeling that much better now, is that the
case for every person? Of course, not takes time to

(36:58):
get the problem there, It takes time to get rid of.
Phase two is correction, where we're correcting the underlying issue,
the structural issue that's there that caused the symptoms in
the first place. So if your neck is out of alignment,
your back, you telvis, your hips, if there's misalignment of
the spine, that needs to be physically corrected to ameliorate

(37:20):
the symptoms, but then also make sure that they're not
coming back later on, because a lot of times people
you go to a chiropractor or physical therapist, medical doctor. Wherever,
you get the treatment, you get the adjustment, you get
the stretch, you feel better a few months later, a
few weeks later, whatever, it comes back. Why because that
underlying structure was not corrected. And then the other the

(37:44):
other reason why is if you don't correct the underlying
structure and all you're doing is trying to ameliorate the symptom,
then that structure will begin to degenerate and get worse.
So here's a quick example is from the side of
the lower back. You want to have the nice lumbar curve,
and a lot of people lose that curve, especially from
sitting too much. So I see a lot of truck drivers.

(38:07):
Truck drivers tend to lose the curve in the lower back.
And I have a patient who comes in. His name's
Trace Drives truck. Showed him his ex rays and again
he's in his mid thirties. Showed him as extray his
back had gone straight. He's dealing with severe back pain
for years. Now I get him a few adjustments, he's
feeling much better, Like he can he can walk better,

(38:28):
he can sit to stand better. He's feeling so much better.
But he's in it to correct the issue because he
told me he's like you wouldn't believe the number of
people that he knows that are truck drivers where they
blow out their back, they have bulging disc hernied a disk,
spinal stenosis, dist degeneration, all that stuff later on in life.
He doesn't want that. So we're not just getting him

(38:48):
out of pain, but correcting that issue so that you
can start to feel even better Number two, but then
also move into the third phase of chiropractic care, which
is true wellness care, which we're talking about in this show,
where we're not just getting you out of pain, correcting
the structure where we want to maintain, want to maintain
that structure through regular chiropractic care. Now, the cool part

(39:12):
about that is once you get the structure where you
want it to be, it just takes maintenance adjustments. I
see most people that you see coming out our office
are coming like every other week or even once a month,
to maintain the health of their spine, to maintain the
health of their spine, and it helps to prevent soreness
and stiffness. But it also helps to optimize. That's the

(39:33):
big thing is optimization so that you can move into
any age of your life and still be flexible. S
You'll have full range of motion, be able to bend
over and touch your toes, to get out of bed
without pain, to get out out of a chair without stiffness.
And you wouldn't believe the number of people that are
like you know, I went on a cruise, or I
went on a vacation, and a lot of people my age,

(39:56):
they were so sore and they were complaining about their
back pain or their neck pain. There's stiffness, and we
don't deal with that anymore. My wife as a patient,
her name is Sheila. She's been a long time patient.
She's been coming to our office since twenty fifteen, so
just about ten years. And she gets regular chiropractic care,
coming in every other week for her adjustments. She's getting

(40:18):
now into her you know, later into her sixties. They
went on a cruise recently, her and her husband Kevin.
They both get adjusted and she came back She's like,
I know you don't you're not supposed to compare, but
I just want to let you know that I'm so
grateful for the care that we're getting here because we
were the only ones in our group who weren't complaining

(40:39):
about pain, who weren't trying to find pain medications. On
the cruise, we were able to walk, we were able
to do all the excursions and still go out at
night and do everything we wanted to do without either
complaining or not being able to do it. And that,
to me is true wellness, where you can get to
any stage of your life and be able to actually

(40:59):
enjoy your life. Here's the thing, it's easy. Your spine's
easy to ignore, you know, in your twenties, your thirties,
even like in your forties and stuff. It's like, I'm
still relatively young. I'll be okay, I'll bounce back. But
when you start to add up all of the you know,
improper movement and the pain and the stiffness and everything
starts to accumulate over time, it's just going to wear

(41:22):
you down. And when you go to go for a walk,
or go on a cruise, or go on vacation, or
go golfing, or go pickle ball, or pull some weeds
or go gardening, you're finding yourself not being able to
do it anymore. And true wellness is being able to
do the things you want to do when you want
to do them, and have the body to do it.
But it takes taking care of yourself now in order

(41:46):
to get there. So where do we go from here?
What I would recommend the first step if you are
not if you are a patient of mine, I would say,
if you want to, if you have anything going on,
just let us know that any goals that you have
nutritionally exercise. There's different levels that we have at the office,
meaning like there's always somewhere else to go in your health,

(42:06):
and if you want to move to the next level,
just let let us know that you're ready. Let us
know what your new goals are. One thing we have
on our patient charts when you come into the office,
we not only have your X race pulled up, but
also your patient chart with the current things you're dealing
with and most importantly, what your goals are, so we
can always update those goals as we go and you

(42:28):
start to hit goals and then you start to work
towards new ones. My wife doesn't like the word goal
because it makes your feel pressure, so she likes the
word desired outcomes. She always says to someone instead of saying,
what are your goals, we'll say, what are your desired
outcomes coming in here? So I like that word. If
you want to have goals, great, you want to have
desired outcomes, great. We can work on both. But for

(42:50):
those of you who are just getting started, you don't
know where to start. The best thing to do, the
easiest thing to do is to make a first appointment.
If you're not a patient of mine. Maybe you've been
listening to it a couple episodes, maybe even listening for years.
Like a lot of people, the hardest thing to do
is but also the simplest thing to do is picking
up the phone, hopping on a computer, giving us a call,

(43:11):
scheduling an appointment online. It's super simple. So the easiest
thing to do is to give our office call again
lid It's Family Chiropractic. Call us at seven one seven
six two seven zero three six fives again seven one
seven six two seven zero three six fives, or hop
on our website lit its Family Chiropractic dot com, click

(43:35):
on request appointment. We'll give you a call back you know,
right away and get your scheduled. We have morning times,
after noontimes, even into the early evening. It's a super
simple process. We'll do an exam, take any necessary X
race and let you know exactly what's going on with
your health and how you can start to achieve your
goals and move into true wellness where you're in control

(43:58):
of your health in your future, like taking care of
your spine, nutrition, exercise, mindset, minimizing toxins, the five essentials. Guys,
have a great week,
