Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, guys, welcome to another week Maximize Living Radio
with your host, doctor Greg O'Neil. This week is going
to be very practical. People enjoy these types of shows,
which is great because you're going to be able to
take something away from it, whether you're a patient of
mine or not. It's just going to help you in
day to day life. So this show is going to
be called do this, not that. When you're faced with

(00:22):
a common health situation where most people do one thing,
I'm going to teach you how you can do another
that's not only easy and convenient, but like radically better
for your health long term. And these little things, these
little shifts that you can make, will just continue to

(00:43):
change your health and radically change your health if you
need that to happen. So my kind of my anchor
for today's show is a quote that I read the
other day says that old habits cannot open new doors.
Old habits cannot open new doors. So if you want
new opportunities, new avenues for your life, you have to

(01:03):
do new things. You have to do new things because
if you keep doing what you're doing, you keep getting
what you're getting. It. It sounds very cliche but it's true.
I mean, if you're struggling with your weight or a
condition like high blood pressure, type two diabetes, or pain
or headaches or neuropathy, whatever you're doing has led you

(01:23):
to this point, so you have to do something different.
And a lot of you out there you're frustrated because
maybe you've gone to physical therapy, maybe you've gone to
another chiropractor. Maybe you're on a bunch of medications. Maybe
you're just ignoring it. You're hoping it goes away, you're
not really paying attention to it. But if you keep
doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what
you're getting. So today's show is all about being faced

(01:45):
with different challenges and situations, doing something different so that
you get a new outcome. And the cool part is
is that, yes, habits are hard to change, but these
shifts that I'm going to teach you about are easy
and actually enjoyable. But it's not so hard. So let's
let's start with like an easy one. Let's start with
an easy one. All right, you're you're baking, you're cooking

(02:09):
your The recipe calls for sugar. What do you do?
Most people take pain sugar and they put it in
and they put a lot of it in. Okay, So
let's say, for example, for example, the pump I make
like a pumpkin pyeer recipe. I essentially follow the directions
on the back of the can. So I'm nothing special.

(02:32):
But if it calls for like three quarters cups sugar,
all right, I'm going to back that down to a
quarter cup or even less. So I'm going to radically
at least cut the sugar in half. Number one. Number two,
you're gonna change the type of sugar that you're using.
So instead of just using standard bleached sugar, that's gonna

(02:55):
it's so bad for you and it's gonna spike your
blood sugar and it's not good inflammation all that stuff.
I'm gonna use coconut sugar. I'm gonna use organic coconut
sugar and that has less of a glycemic index, meaning
it's not gonna spike your blood sugar as much. Now,
is it like the perfect alternative? Of course not. No,
it still is sugar, but it's a much better source

(03:15):
and it's much lower glycemic index. So it's not gonna
spike your blood sugar as much. And I'm not gonna
use as much. So when I make a pumpkin pie
instead of throwing in three quarter cup white sugar, and
then I feel my teeth like give or like eat
something so sweet and you just feel your teeth like
coated right afterwards. That's plaque build up. That's that bacteria
just immediately taking on that sugar and multiplying in your

(03:37):
mouth and building plaque almost immediately on your teeth from
eating sugar. And then people eat sugar, they get that
little cough or that post naise will drip in the back.
That's inflammation of the throat from the sugar that you're eating.
Because it's not good for your body. So again we're
gonna move to cutting that at least in half and
then use something like coconut sugar. Some other options would

(03:58):
be maple syrup. Some other options would be raw local honey,
and a lot of people use like organic apple sauce
instead of sugars as well. So those are just some simple,
simple things that you can make. They make some changes
on in your bakings. Okay, next one, if you have
a headache, most people will do what we'll take medications.

(04:20):
They'll either think, okay, I need coffee or I need
to take advil or a leave or some kind of etc.
In migraine or tile and all a set of minifin
so those things. Again, a headache is telling you there's
a problem, specifically in the neck. Ninety five percent of headaches,
in my estimation, come from the neck. So most headaches

(04:42):
are coming from the neck. If there's mislignment of the bones,
they generate upwards into the head. And when you take medications,
all you're doing is turning off the signal of pain.
You're not fixing the issue. I cannot get this across.
It's so important. You cannot fix a physical problem with

(05:03):
a chemical solution. So the spine the neck is physically
out of alignment, putting pressure on the nervous system. Your
nervous system lets you know there's a problem via a headache.
A headache is the alarm bell. It's the fire alarm
and saying, hey, there's a problem. So when you take
the adviled ibuprofen, the etcedrin, the A leave, the tile
and all the migraine medication, whatever it is, all you're

(05:25):
doing is turning off that signal. It goes to your brain.
Those medications go to your brain, turn off the paint
set and you're like, oh, the headache went away. I'm fine. Meanwhile, meanwhile,
the neck continues to get worse. Now it starts to degenerate.
Someone's posture changes, and you'll start to notice things like, man,
my head, I look at I say this to yourself.
I look at my family pictures and my head is

(05:46):
tilted one way. Or I noticed my shoulder is higher
and my head is my neck is jutting forward, or
my chin is jutting forward. Those are all signs of
misalignment of the neck. And so what you want to do,
so it's like, don't do this, you know, do this,
not that. So what you not want to do is
take the medications. What you want to do is that's
where chiropractic adjustments come in. To physically get the spine

(06:09):
back into alignment. We get the body healing and functioning.
Wall just had a patient just yesterday that I adjusted
for the first time. Now, she had not been adjusted
in a long time, had taken a long break from
between adjustments due to moving and job and everything like that.
It's new to the area. Came in and that's basically
what you said. She's like, I noticed my shoulders coming high. Here,

(06:30):
my head is coming forward. I know that medications don't
help and they're not good for me, so I want
to get adjusted. So I got our first adjustment, and
like as soon as I adjusted her neck, her eyes
just opened. She had the biggest smile on her face.
I said, go ahead and sit up. Then go ahead,
try moving your next. Youah, that feels moving her next,
She's like, oh my gosh. And if I've heard this once,

(06:51):
I've heard a million times. I didn't realize how height
I was or how much pain I was in until
I got adjusted. You don't realize how much better you're
going to feel until you actually get adjusted. You have
no idea, especially if you've never been adjusted before. It's
kind of like if someone's never tasted chocolate before and
they ask me, like, what does it taste like? And

(07:13):
be like, I'm you've got to try it? Like, there's
no there's no way I can tell you what chocolate
tastes like. There's no way I can really explain what
getting adjusted feels like. But I can say for me,
I feel lighter. My body just feels looser, more limber,
and my nervous system just again, just this word, just
feels like lighter and unencumbered, and you feel a sense

(07:33):
of well being. You don't have the tension and the
stress and the achiness and all those things that you
hold in your body, and it becomes normal for you
and you don't even realize that it's that like that way,
You don't realize it until major pain syndromes come in
like headaches, migraines, back pain, neuropathy, sciatica, lower back issues.
So getting adjusted simplest, probably the simplest thing you could

(07:57):
do to correct the physical issue. If you would like
to do that, give our office a call again, doctor grego'
nail let Its Family Chiropractic. Do this. The title of

welcome back to the show Maximize Living Radio with your host,

(09:03):
Doctor Greg O'Neal, co owner lit It's Family Chiropractic Practice,
alongside my beautiful wife. Doctor Christa specializes in pediatric care.
She's really great at what she does. I'm not saying
that just because she might be listening, but she specializes
in seeing young infants, babies, pregnant mothers, and it's just

(09:23):
it's such a blessing to have her at the office
to really really help those kids. And one of the
biggest things just to tell a quick story because so
like the title of this show is do this not that.
So you want to do is you want to get
your child adjusted? The not that is not just ignoring
issues that you see in your baby posturely and spinally

(09:45):
because they lead to big issues later on. I'm going
to give you a quick example. Had a young mom
come in. She was seeing me through her pregnancy and
then she had her baby, and I explained to her,
you know, the benefits of chiropractic care and everything like that,
and she had the baby in the office with her
for her adjustment, and I could see, like straight on,

(10:07):
like you can especially see when you look at a
child sitting in the car seat, the baby's head was tilted.
And I said to her, I said, do you notice
how that you're you know, first obviously, I said, you know,
your child's beautiful, all you know, congratulations. I said, do
you notice that their head is slightly tilted? She goes,
I do, and they have trouble turning, like their head's
tilted to the left. But she has trouble turning her
head to the right, so she can't sleep on that side,

(10:28):
and she's always wanting to stay on that on that
left side. And I said, yeah, one of the concerns
with that is that if it's not correct, it leads
to the baby's head going flat because they lay on
You can imagine baby laying on one side, their skull
is very malleable like soft, and the baby's supposed to
be able to turn their neck and switch sides naturally.

(10:49):
And if they can't because their neck is sore or
tight or the muscles are not allowing them because the joints,
the head goes flat. And then she started saying, you know,
my friend's baby, my sister's baby. She's naming all these
different examples, and I just said, listen, if you have
any questions, let me know. But my wife, again specialized
in pediatric care. Just a few adjustments and this will

(11:10):
be corrected. So she started the baby undercare with my wife,
and then I got to see her a few weeks later,
so she comes in on my side, so she's getting
her regular adjustment and I see the baby again, and
all the difference was just night and day. The baby's
head was straight as an arrow, was level and straight.
I said, look at your look at your little girl,
like it's her head is completely shit. She's like, oh

(11:32):
my goodness, I know. And her she's moving well, she's
sleeping better through the night, she's not as fussy, she's
just easier to comfort, and she's more still and calm.
Because imagine yourself as an adult you wake up one
day and you have a big muscle spasm in your
neck and your head is tilted. We've all had that happen.
How do you feel that day? Are you mister perfect?

(11:52):
Are you missus perfect? Are you walking around you know,
just like in your best, most authentic, happy self. Of
course not. You're in pain no matter what you do
throughout the day. There's just that underlying issue. I once
heard someone an interview about health, and there was a
man who was a billionaire, and he said, I don't
care how much money you have. You could be sitting
on a yacht with everything's gold plated and you could

(12:15):
have two billion dollars in the bank. But if you
have a sore throat or a bad back, what are
you thinking about? That's what you're thinking about. You're not
thinking about all the money you have or how great
your life is. You're thinking about those health concerns. So
for as an adult, you're walking around with your neck
out of joint, that's what you're thinking about. What about
a baby who's brand new in this world and their
next out of alignment, what are they going to do?

(12:37):
They can't say to you, mom my neck hurts, No,
They cry, they're fussy. They call it their croup. So
what did the parents do? They in some cases, in
a lot of cases, they give them children's time and all,
which I think is horrible. They're giving them a painkiller,
so right off the bat, that's teaching the child that
the answer is medications. And then it just compounds the issues.

(12:58):
Never mind all the side effects with things like that.
Run them to the pediatrician. And then if these things
get worse and the head goes slat, what they'll do
is the pediatrician. The doctor will recommend the baby puts
a helmet on. And this helmet literally squeezes their head
back into alignment. So the baby will wear that twenty
three hours a day and just scream. And I see that,

(13:19):
and it's just it's the hardest thing to see when
I'm around the community and I see babies with helmets on,
and like, this is just crazy. I'm living in the
twilight zone here. It's just such a simple fix. Now
I realize some people they have questions about their concerns,
and people say, oh, I'm concerned about you. The chiropractor
working on my baby's neck and this and that. Listen,

(13:39):
it's so gentle, The amount of pressure that you use
is the same amount of pressure you would use to
check the ripeness of the tomato. The same amount of
pressure that you would use to push on your own eyeball.
So with your with your eyes closed, the same amount
of pressure you would use to kind of feel around
your eyeball. That's the same amount of pressure. Chiropractors are
taught to work on an infant with and it's a

(14:00):
very simple process. And kids who get adjusted are radically healthier.
And I know this because I have three them myself.
I'm not just saying this, like we have three kids.
They've all been adjusted from day one their whole life.
And I can tell you not to toot the horn
or whatever. Maybe I will to toot, but I look

(14:21):
at their class pictures, okay, and my kids' heads are
level and straight, their shoulders are level, their heads are
straight on, and every other kid is just their heads
are tilted and turned and they look called sideways. And
those same kids, because I hear it from parents, they
deal with headaches, they deal with migraines, Like my one son,
his one of his friends deals with horrible migraines. And

(14:44):
you know he's talking about it, but you know, sometimes
it's hard. Not everyone's going to want to, you know,
go through with chiropractic care. And I get that, but
it's just needless suffering. It's needless suffering for a little
baby to be crying in pain through the night and
then the parent does nothing about it. Now they don't know,
they don't know any different. That's why I'm sharing this information.

(15:06):
But they give them here, take this melotone and take
this talel. Just basically just shut up so I can sleep. Now.
I get it. I'm a parent and kids up at night.
It's no fun. I understand. I get it. But there's
a better way. There's a better way, and it's such
a simple process. Like again, my own kids get adjusted.
I get adjusted. My wife who practices this way, who

(15:29):
specialize in pediatrics, she has been adjusted since she was
ten days old. This isn't just something like some sales
gimmick thing that people say. Oh. I once had a
man say this to me, and it really like I
really put him in his place because he said, oh,
you just want you see all these babies. Now he's
kind of half joking, half not joking. He's like, you
just want all the babies come in, because that's more

(15:49):
of an income stream for you. He's like a CEO.
This guy's name is Dave Big CEO, so he's always
thinking in terms of money and marketing. That's a big
income stream for you. You get the whole family to
come in. I'm like, actually, we get the kids healthy
at a young age so they don't grow up and
look like you. Dave. I got to say it to him,
and he really laughed. He goes, oh, maybe you got

(16:10):
a point there. The point is you get the kids
healthy at a young age, and it's a super simple process.
And I had a patient just recently where they mom
and dad, longtime patients of Mind, knew to chiropractic, but
they had a baby and I recommended the care and
everything like that because I noticed the head was tilted

(16:31):
on the child and they noticed that too. But they
just had so much like reticence of I'm just not sure,
and making the appointments and getting the baby there and
dealing with the baby crying and being fussy in the
waiting area. They just had so much just that parental
anxiety that you have, especially when it's your first child.
Just the general getting up and going and like, yeah,
the baby not getting adjusted. You could start to see

(16:54):
that the head was going flat. And then once they
saw that, they're like, oh my goodness, we got to
get her. We got to get here and get this corrected.
And you know, there's part of me that's like, guys,
like I'm not just saying I'm not just blowing smoke here.
This is serious. Like when the head is tilted like
that is not good. You don't want to wait until
the baby's head is flat in order to start taking
care of them, or never take care of them anyways.

(17:16):
And the kid walks around their heads flat, most parents
don't even know want to take care of at a
young age because then it turns into bigger things later on.
It turns into headaches and migraines that a lot of
young kids deal with when they're in third grade. Fourth
grade can turn into comprehension issues and reading issues because
they're not able to focus because their body's in pain.
And when your spine is out of alignment, your body's

(17:38):
in pain, it releases cortisol and that turns off basically
brain flow and brain rerouting to the hippocampus. That's your
learning center. When you're in pain. When you're under stress.
Your body's not in learning mode. It's not it's in
survival mode. Many of you listening to this right now,
many of your kids and your grandkids are in survival

(17:59):
mode at school. They're in pain, they're eating garbage for food,
and they're hippocampus, that part of the brain is turned off.
And then they're told they have learning disorders. So they're
told they have add ADHD reading comprehension issues. And there
can be some I'm not painting a big brush here.
There can be some things or that's legit, and I
understand that. But for a lot of kids, it's because

(18:23):
their spine has been neglected, their nutrition has been neglected,
and they're not healthy. They're not living a healthy, active lifestyle,
and that's why they're dealing with these learning issues and
brain comprehension issues. And then what are they told by
the medical doctor here. We got just to think, take
this adderall. Take this ADHD medication. It's basically legal speed

(18:44):
like it's a it's an epheda type medication. It speeds
up your brain. It makes the child high so that
they their brain is more activated. They're high, they're on
a drug so that they can focus. And then you
look at what happened to the millennial generation, and that
happened like when I was growing up, you thank goodness

(19:04):
I it wasn't put on medications or anything. But you
hear people who ADHD medication. ADHD became a big saying.
And then what's happening later on? So these people are
now in their twenties, thirties, early forties, what are they
doing at as an adult? You're still seeing adderall as
like a top prescribed medication to millennial adults for them

(19:26):
to focus at work. I know people personally that take
adderall in high pressure job situations like being a lawyer
or being like in sales and things like that to
get through the day. That's insane, but that's taught that
was taught when they were young. That was taught by
their parents, by other doctors when they were young. So

(19:47):
people just you're either willfully hurting your child or you
don't know. Now I'm going to go on the side
that people don't know. But that's why I have this
radio show so you can know better. So what am
I getting at here? If you have children, grandchildren, this
is an opportunity for you to learn, understand and be
educated that chiropractic care is so impactful for them at
a young age to get their shoulders level, to get

(20:09):
their head level, so that their skull their cranium can
start to form properly and solidify properly, because that directly
impacts not only pain and discomfort or migraines or headaches,
but the activity in their brain because structure dictates function,
and if your skull is changed shape or deformed, that
puts abnormal stress and pressure on the brain stem, the

(20:31):
spinal cord, and the brain itself. Now, yes, the brain
can change and it can move in different areas and
still work. God gave us that grace and the adaptability
of the human body, But why allow that to happen.
So it's a very simple process to get kids scheduled.
Check out the office for yourself if you're a parent,
become comfortable with the process. It's very simple. So if

(20:52):
you'd like to make an appointment for yourself, give our
office a call. Seven one seven, six two seven zero
three sixty fives They tuned for more. Ye all right, guys,
welcome back to the show Maximize Living Radio. Doctor Greg O'Neill.
Paitle of this show is do this, not that. So
we want to do things that are good and healthy
for us in our family and not things that aren't.

(21:15):
So let's talk about cooking again and very simple and enjoyable,
easy change that you can make immediately that doesn't even
take like a habit to break because you can just
throw out the bad and bring in the good. Is
you want to use healthy cooking oils and you want
to throw away unhealthy ones. So speed oils have been

(21:39):
big in the health space. Like we've heard about that now.
I mean I've been talking about it for like almost
thirteen years, but you know it goes without saying good
to be ahead of the curb, right, It's crazy now
thinking I've been doing this for I'm almost been a
chiropractor for thirteen years. That's a long time. Really, it's
great enjoying it. Back when I first started, like it

(22:02):
was like twenty twelve, and I would tell people about
coconut oil and using like butter for cooking and olive
oil and avocado oil. People looked at me like I
was nuts, Like you'd never heard of coconut oil back then,
Like seriously, like twenty twelve was a totally different thing,
like you had to go to send people to specialty
stores to go get it. And then when certain grocery

(22:25):
stores started carrying the coconut all I would talk with
the managers there and stuff it would be sold out.
He's like, I can't keep this stuff on the shelves.
Are you telling people about it? Is that why? I'm like, yeah,
cocon and oil is really good for you. And even
a restaurant nearby in the town that I was practicing,
and it was in fair Pennsylvania, we did one of
all our nutrition talks there and they it was so
cool they changed out the oils that they were using

(22:47):
in the kitchen because the chef was listening to the
talk unbeknownst to me and thought to himself, he goes, well,
we're calling ourselves a health food restaurant, which they were.
They're like a gluten free type restaurant, but yet they weren't.
It was the oils was the last thing. And that's
the case with so many restaurants. And the toughest part
about going out to eat is that they might serve

(23:11):
healthy meats and vegetables and it could be organic and
grassped and all that good stuff. But what oils are
they cooking with? Because the large quantity of oils are
the seed type oils, which is like canola oil, vegetable oil,
soybean oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil. Those oils are inflammatory

(23:32):
to the human body because of the compositions of the
ratio between omega six to omega three fatty acids. Basically,
there's way too many omega six fatty acids and it's
not a natural fat or oil that are bodies used
to processing or designed to process, but therefore it's seen
as foreign and it creates inflammation and problems throughout the

(23:54):
bodies like arthritis and sore joints and headaches and all
digestive concerns. Earns tons of tons of concerns that come
from seed oils. So what you want to do at home,
and now I'll talk about the restaurant here in a minute.
What you want to do at home is you want
to cook with butter, ideally grass fed butter. So I
personally use the Irish butter there. The name is Carry Gold.

(24:17):
Is the name Carry Gold Irish butter. I get that
at Costco. They have it in bulk packs there. It's
a little more expensive when you buy it on its own,
but if you get it at Costco, it's a great price.
We use carry Gold butter. We also use My personal
favorite is avocado oil, so I get Chosen Foods avocado oil.
I also get that at Costco for a great price.

(24:39):
It's extremely versatile, meaning it has a high smoke point,
so you can heat it to upwards a five hundred
degrees spahrenheit before it goes rancid. Now, when you use
something like butter, you have to use on like low
heat for butter, just for like butter is used just
to saute like vegetables or baking and things like that,
because if you go any higher than like three hundred degrees,

(25:01):
it starts to go brown and rancid. It oxidizes, which
that could be carcinogenic to your body. It's not good
for your body to do that. So you want to
cook with butter on low heat. Now, avocado oil you
can cook on high heat up to five hundred degrees fahrenheit.
So I don't know if I've ever seen my avocado
oil turn brown or spit or spat, but I'm not

(25:21):
cooking on that. You know, over five hundred degrees, so
it's extremely versatile and it pours just like olive oil,
and it measures one to one for olive oil, so
it's a great you know, one for one counter with that.
The other one we do is olive oil. Not as
much for me personally, because olive oil, especially extra virgin
olive oil, that's more for salads and salad dressings and

(25:43):
preparations like that, because if you cook with it, it
has a lower smoke point similar to butter, and it
can go rancid very quickly, especially the extra virgin olive oil.
You almost can't cook with that or just lightly saute
at the end while it's warm, because it'll just turn rantid.
So I use again avocado oil for higher heat, and
then we also use coconut oil. Coconut oil I would

(26:06):
heat you know, cooke with at medium to medium high.
I believe it as a four hundred degree fahrenheit smoke point.
It almost looks like a wax like it looks like
a white wax. So it does take a little more
time to melt that, so you have to add it
in a little earlier and allow it to melt on
the pan. My wife personally likes coconut oil. She likes

(26:27):
the taste of it. It's a little sweeter taste. I
like avocado oil just because I can just pour it
on and it's it's really easy for someone like me
who's always thinks that they're in a rush. That's my
own issue, my own cross the bear. But yeah, avocado oil. So,
like we have a little turn still on our I
don't know what it's called, those little turntable things on
top of our counter next to our oven, and on

(26:49):
it fits coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, and then
I usually have some balsamic vinaigrette or something like that
right there as well. And in the fridge we have,
as said, butter. So that's a very simple change you
can make. So you get home today, you throw out
the junk canola oil like things like PAM, like those

(27:10):
cooking ales that you spray on. Oh here's the cool
part shows and foods. I get it at Costco. They
have an avocado oil spray with no other preservatives or
no other additives or anything like that, so it's just
pure avocado oil and a spray, so you can use that.
So it's even more convenient. So when we like travel
or we go away, like we go to a cabin

(27:32):
or out camping or something. I bring that with us
to cook because it's super convenient and it travels very easily.
So again, you want you get home, you throw out
vegetable oils, canola oil, soybean oil, pam, cooking awles. This
stuff is garbage. It is garbage. Now some of you
will say, well, I don't want to waste it, so

(27:53):
I'll just use it. I don't want to waste money,
so I'll just use it, and then I'll make the switch. No,
you already spent the money. The money's gone, you're not
getting it back. Okay, throw it out. It is garbage.
But repeat that. You have those cooking holes, those seed
oils at your house, grow them in the garbage. By

(28:15):
eating it, by feeding it to yourself, your wife, your husband,
your family, you are hurting them. You are injuring their
body by putting that in their body. Can I be
any more clear? Throw it out because now you know different.
Now you're not ignorant. So if you ingest it, you're
willfully hurting your body. You're willfully hurting your children's body

(28:37):
if you put that in their body. Just the way.
It is hard to hear, but easy to do. You
can make that switch. So it in the trash, get
the new stuff. You're good to go, and you'll never
look back because it tastes better. It's just it's not
even close. It's not even close. It tastes so much better. Okay,
let's move on to another simple change is salad dressings,

(28:58):
because you might you might have thrown out those oil already,
but the seed oils are hiding in plain sight, and
mostly in the salad dressings are the big ones. So
like the Ranch and the Blue Cheese or the Thousand
Islands or all the different ones that people use that
are sitting in the fridge, all those big brand names.
The first ingredient you flip over, you read the ingredient,

(29:21):
it's gonna be soybean oil. Most likely it's gonna say
soybean oil, canola oil, vegetable oil, baffloul oil. They are full.
It's like over eighty percent of that thing is just
pure seed oils. If you want to switch those out. Now.
The cool part about this is I used to talk
about making your own dressings and stuff, and again, if
you're anything like me, I don't want to be sent

(29:42):
to make my own dressings. I'll pay the extra couple
dollars and I'll go buy it at the store. Now
there are ways you can make the dressings yourself, or
just do like an on salad like a balsamac and
you know, olive oil, and it's super simple, and people
like that. I person, I love ranch you know, I
love ranch dressing, and you can get them. Now there's
brands out there, like at Whole Foods, they have the

(30:03):
three sixty five brand of ranch dressing without the seed oils.
There's also probably the best one is called Chosen Foods
is another one that has different salad dressings that use
avocado oil. And then there's another great brand it's called
Primal Kitchen. Primal Kitchen is another great one. There's another
great brand called Tessames with no seed oil. So these

(30:26):
things are we don't have excuses anymore. You know. Back
in twenty twelve, when I'm telling people make their own
ranch dressing, they're kind of looking me like I'm crazy.
But now you go out and get it, and it'll
even say on there no seed oils or contains avocado
oil or made with olive oil, and it's super simple
if you want to again you want to switch out
the seed oils in your house and also the salad

(30:47):
dressings and get the good ones in. And again, cool
part is they taste better. They taste better, and they're great.
I use Costco dozen Foods. They have the big drums
of the salad dressings there that have no seed oils
for a great price. So that's where I'm a big
Costco bumper because it's yeah, it's a lot less expensive,

(31:09):
and then you get more more quantity for it as
well if you have a larger family and it's it's
going to go fast, okay. Another one is to switch
out the mayonnaise that you're using. So we use mayonnaise.
I like to make like a chicken salad where you
have like a chop up cooked chicken with some celery,
some pepper, some cucumber. Then I'd put in a maybe

(31:32):
a third of a cup or half a cup of
mayonnaise and stir that up, add on some pumpkin seeds,
add on some olives, and that's a great salad. That's
a great way to have a quick salad that's healthy
and basically ketogenic. There's not a lot of carbohydrate to that.
In fact, there's no carbohydrates in the mayonnaise. But the
mail you want to get, you want it to be

(31:53):
healthy because the ones out there, the standard ones that
we all grew up with, whether it's Miracle Whip or Helmns,
it's full. It's chock full of stoybean oil. Now even
these larger companies you'll notice are starting to switch. So
you'll notice that these larger companies like Helmonzol even say
now made with avocado oil, are now made with olive oil.

(32:15):
So you can in some cases get those I personally
like Chosen Foods. Again, I get it at Costco. These
brands can be rather expensive, but again getting at Costco
you get an amazing price for a good sized quantity.
Stay tune after the break for some more. Hey, guys,
welcome back to the show Maximize Living Radio Doctor Greg O'Neal.

(32:35):
I'm going to finish out the show here. It's been
an enjoyable show. I like doing this one. It's called
do this not that. IM just pro tips, as the
young people say. For we're making simple, enjoyable changes that
can have a lasting impact in your life. All right,
let's continue on food a little bit and then we'll

(32:56):
switch to kind of more the body and then you
know how you're feeling and stuff like that. So I
talked about switching out seed oils, talked about switching out
salad dressings. Another wildly important one is to switch out
your meats. Okay, so meat is good for you, animal meat,
animal protein, I believe, well, it's signing it a belief

(33:18):
is how our bodies are designed is essential for human health.
It's essential. When someone goes vegan, they go vegetarian, they're
missing out. They have to take things like our acadonic
acid or vitamin B twelve because they're not getting it
from the vegetables. Okay, So if you cut something out
and then you can't live without a certain thing, that's

(33:39):
kind of like the that's telling you something. There's your sign.
But you want to eat to write types of meats Okay,
now most people know this. Now this is not revolutionary
me sharing this, But you want to switch to grass
fed beef, grass fed beef again. Taste is you're going
to like to taste better, and it's more natural, not

(34:00):
as process, it's not coming from conventional farms. It's better
for our environment. If you care about that sort of thing.
It's better for local farmers, which is great, you know,
living in Lancaster County, living anywhere in Pennsylvania. Basically it's
we live in an amazing area for local farms and
you're supporting real people. I always recommend to give them

(34:22):
a plug. Danda Farms the Martin family. They live in
the Lititts Manheim area, so Danda d A n d
A and they're open on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. So
a lot of people make the trip out to Roots
Market then head over to Dan to Farms. It's it's
maybe a five minute drive from Roots Market if that,

(34:47):
and they're they're great. So like you're when you say
shop local, you can't shop more local than driving up
someone's driveway and getting the meet at their literally at
their house. They have a shed on the side of
the rud for their house. You go in, you ring
the doorbell and someone from the home comes over. And
they're great people, always great conversation and I get my

(35:08):
I get grass fed organic beef bear stakes, I get
chicken chicken breast, and then they also have wild caught
salmon available as well. I also usually get their local honey.
They also have eggs farm fresh eggs, and around Thanksgiving
time they also take orders for non GMO and organic

(35:30):
turkeys from another local farm, so like and when you pay,
that money is going to them. There's no big box
store retailer and CEOs and all that kind of stuff
and on up cells and marketing and I don't know,
it's just it's a great I personally like to shop
local where I can, and that's a great way. You

(35:51):
can't shop more local than buying it from someone's farm directly.
So there's tons of other farms in the area and
family farms and things like that, but I go to
Danda Farms and it's grass fed organic. They've been doing
it for a long time. They're a great family, wonderful people,
and you're supporting local business while also supporting yourself and
putting good quality food into your into your stomach and

(36:15):
into your for your kids and everyone else. So it's
a win win, right, I mean, they get they get
get to have a business, and they get to provide
a great you know, service, goods and services and then yeah,
it's all good. So Danda Farms that's located on Lititz
Road between Mannheim and Lititz probably about five minutes from

(36:35):
Roots market. So what we want to do, What you
want to do is switch out the conventional beef, conventional steaks,
conventional chicken, all the cheap stuff, and you want to
switch that with organic passer raised chicken. Again they have
that there dan to farms or organic chicken which you

(36:56):
get at the stores, the pasture raise. You're going to
notice a difference that there's a different hue to the meat,
Like it just looks more natural because that chicken has
been allowed to move around. They have more maya sin
it's called in their muscle. So it's just like a
little bit of a darker meat, but in a good way,
like it tastes a lot better. And then again Grass
said beef, Grass said steaks, wild caught salmon, wild caught cod.

(37:20):
Those are all just amazing changes that you can make.
And when I first started out, when I was first
starting out doing all this, and one of my mentors said,
because I was broke, I was hundreds of thousands of
dollars in debt, you know, between my wife and I
and we had you know, pinching pennies was an understatement.
And organic at that time especially was a lot more expensive.

(37:42):
It's more expensive now, but not the same percentage. Like
maybe it's in some instances ten percent more expensive or
as much as twenty percent more expensive, but back then
it was like thirty percent more expensive or more. And
one of my mentors said, listen, if you can change anything,
just change your meats first. You can't afford anything else.
Change your meats first. Because the toxicity, the pesticides, antibiotics,

(38:07):
all that stuff. It's more concentrated in meat than it
is in the vegetables or the fruits. Why is that
Because an animal has to eat has to eat sixteen
pounds of plant material to make one pound of flesh.
So if they're eating corn, it's sixteen pounds of corn,
sixteen pounds of grass, sixteen pounds of hey, whatever they're eating.

(38:29):
That's getting concentrated down into their muscle that you're then eating,
so it becomes bioaccumulative. It accumulates up the food chain,
and at the top of the food chain we get
to bear all that toxicity that could be in that animal. Now,
is it going to be perfect in any situation, No,
of course not. But you're going to radically reduce those
toxins pesticide and things of that nature. By going to

(38:53):
organic grass fed and that animal is fed more closely
to how God designed them to eat, so they're going
to be a healthier animal. And then you'll be able
to eat that animal and you'll be healthy because of
it as well. So again, grass fed beef dana forms,
that's the way to go. Now, the other change that
you want to make is and this is just from

(39:15):
like a pure weight loss standpoint, I would say is
go easy on the sauces and the condiments. And I
got this advice actually from R. J. Harris, who's a
patient of mine. You all know and love r J. Harris,
And he said one of the biggest changes he made
for weight loss, and I'm like, oh, man, I could
use that myself was cutting out all the condiments. Because

(39:37):
when you actually sit and you read the number of
calories that's in these condiments for the small amount that
they are, it's a lot. And so for me, I'm like,
oh my gosh, like you taught me something, because you
ever have a salad and you take that ranch dressing
and you just you know, put it all on there

(39:59):
and you don't even and looking at how much you're
doing well when you actually turn it over and read
the serving size. It often says one tablespoon or two
tablespoons for two hundred calories. Now, if you're anyone like me,
I'm using more than two tablespoons. I'm using more than
one tablespoon. If I actually measured it out, maybe it's

(40:19):
five or six. By the time I'm done squirting that thing,
or ketchup or mayonnaise or any other condiment, it adds
up in the calories. So you could be adding on
to two hundred, three hundred, four hundred, five hundred calories
just in the condiments that you're using. So what's the saying,

(40:40):
don't blame the burger for what the bun did. Or
I'll say, don't blame the burger for what the bun did.
The ketchup, the mayonnaise, the special sauce, all that stuff
that you added on to the cheeseburger. That's what causes
people to gain weight. Because when I say things like
eating cheeseburg you can do that. But what you're not

(41:02):
doing is having a bun for two hundred calories or
more one hundred calories to catch up two hundred calories
of mayonnaise. You know, mustard is nice because it's such
low calorie, or you get some kind of special sauce
for another one hundred calories. These things add up very quickly.
What you want to do is that you either want

(41:24):
to cut out, eliminate, or radically reduce the amount of
sauces and condiments that you're using and spend more time
cooking and seasoning your meats, chickens, vegetables more properly, and
by using better oils and seasonings, you're going to notice
that it'll lock in better taste. So that's something that

(41:46):
you can learn from because I did learning from Marja
Harris is cutting down on those condiments because they make
a big difference. If you're trying to lose weight and
you're sucking down an extra two to four hundred or
five hundred calories a day, just in fundaments, it it
adds up over time. So an a pound of fat
in a human body is approximately three thousand, five hundred calories.

(42:09):
So if you're adding that on every day, like say
you're adding an excess of three to five hundred calories
a day, that's your pound of fat that you could
be gaining in a week. Or on the flip side,
just by cutting out approximately five hundred calories a day
from things like sauces, these unnecessary calories that you don't

(42:29):
really need. It's not part of your meal, should be
part of your meal. That's a good way that you
can burn it. Literally a pound of fat a week
by cutting down on three thousand, five hundred calories. So
it can be done. Now again, do we want to
sit and count calories and do that whole thing like
they did in the nineties, in the two thousand, No,
it's not about that, But it's also about being aware.

(42:51):
You want to be aware of the situation that if
I'm sitting here pouring half a bottle of ranch on
my chicken wings, it's probably not going to turn out
well for me when I go to step on the
scale in a couple days. All right, let's move on.
I want to finish off here with chiropractic. The big one,
I would say one of the most emerging conditions of

(43:12):
the year is neuropathy and people losing sensation in their
feet and getting numbness and tingling, and what people turn
to are very very very expensive treatments that are advertised everywhere,
whether it's on radio, print, TV, internet and These treatments
are upwards of five to ten thousand dollars different lasers

(43:36):
and shock wave and everything like that. Before you jump
into something like that, you want to assess a couple things.
Number one, the care of your spine. Chiropractic is going
to come in for that, and number two, your nutrition
and checking blood sugar levels to make sure that you
have full blood flow down your legs. I'll expand upon
that more on a later show, but I hope this

(43:57):
show has blessed you. Guys have an amazing week. Signing
