Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, guys, welcome to another week Maximize Living Radio
with your host, doctor Greg O'Neill. I'm excited and I
love the topic and to talk about today very philosophical.
I'm going to be talking about widening your lens in healthcare,
in your body, and in your thinking. So think of
like a camera when you can zoom in and you
(00:23):
can zoom out. When you zoom in, you can see
fine detail, You can concentrate on a specific object. When
you zoom out, you get the whole picture. And zooming
out helps you get perspective of what's going on. You know,
what's the term, you see the forest for the trees,
or the trees for the forest. Many times we have
(00:44):
no problem zooming in and hyper focusing on the issues,
little issues or bigger issues that can be happening in
our health or in our day to day life. And
one it really becomes apparent, like you get it cools,
you get a flu, something like that, Like you become
hyper focused on the symptoms that you're dealing with, and
(01:07):
rightfully so, because your body's making sure you're paying attention
to that. You're not going to work, you're not out
running a marathon, you're not out running errands and things
like that, your butts on the couch or you're in
bed and you have whether it's cold symptoms, whether it's sniffles,
whether it's nasal conjection, sinus infection, post nasal drip, maybe
your coughing, maybe your lungs are full, maybe you have
(01:29):
a fever. So that right away you're hyper focused on
the symptoms, okay, and you're just and sometimes you're just
trying to get through the day. You're trying to get
through getting rid of these symptoms. And I understand that,
but I want to let you know that when you
start to zoom out in your health is that symptoms
are a legging indicator. They're the last thing to appear
(01:51):
in many disease conditions and even sickness conditions and illnesses.
For example, even with a viral in like a cold
or like COVID, the last thing to appear is the
symptoms and the symptoms. But here's the problem is people
think that the symptoms are when they're sick. It's actually
(02:14):
the symptoms is when you're healing, when your body's now
responding and starting to fight back. So you have let's
say you're around someone who has the flu or the cold,
and you come into contact with that virus, you're going
to go through a two to three day what's called
an incubation period. Now, if you're very attuned with your body,
(02:35):
you might be able to feel this coming on you
Ever hear people say, or maybe you said, I can
kind of feel a cold coming on or something's happening.
You feel a little more tired, you have a little
bit of bags under your eyes. Cool thing. They've actually
done a study where they would show participants these pictures
of people, people they don't know, and they would just
show their face and people can tell if someone's getting
(02:58):
sick well before they or feeling sick. And you kind
of see that someone. They look a little pale, they
look a little tired, they got bags under their eyes, like,
oh you don't look that good today, are you okay?
Oh yeah, I'm fine. I'm just feeling a little run down. Meanwhile,
that's their body kind of letting them know, hey, something's
going on. You're in this incubation period. Now. The thing
to do when I feel like this now, I used
(03:21):
to just push through and drive through. And that's you know,
that's we all know what happens. Then that's when you
want to rest. That's when you want to give your
body proper nourishment, Vitamin C, vitamin D. That's when you
are on to be really good on your supplementation and
really making sure that you're staying away from sugar. But
you come into seasons like the holidays or birthdays, or
maybe it's summer vacations and things like that, Well, what
(03:43):
do we do. We want to stay up later, we
want to have sugar, we want to be around more people.
We forego taking good care of ourselves. Basically through in
that incubation period, then you pile on a bunch of
sugar and lack of sleep. Okay, now you're going into
full blown symptomatic attack. Symptoms are coming up, so the
(04:03):
virus inside your body starts to populate. This is called
cellular bursts where they take over a cell in your body.
They hack the DNA of your body and they start
copying themselves. They use your own body to start copying
the virus. So your body makes the virus, makes the virus,
makes the virus makes the virus. You're because the virus
(04:24):
has hijacked your cell and the virus comes out there's
so many of them that it caused cellular bursts. Now
that cell explodes and those viruses start to go through
areas of your body and they start to go to
other cell in effect them, and that starts to burst
in other places. And this can start to populate in
areas like your throat, your nose, your lungs, your digestive tract.
(04:45):
And then that's when your body is very smart. Do
you have white blood cells, you have killer T cells,
you have these lymphocytes and neutrophills, all these different immune
system white blood cells that are circulating, just circulating, just
seeking to stry. They're looking for these things. They see
these viruses, they tag them, they eat them, they destroy them.
(05:05):
They even destroy infected cells. So they could see a
cell in your body that's been taken over, it's just
gonna swallow up, it's gonna destroy it. So there's literally
a battle going on inside of your body, and your
body is very capable and it's gonna win that battle.
It's gonna win that battle. Now unless you're severely immunicompromised,
YadA YadA YadA, But that like ninety nine point ninety
nine nine percent of the time you're winning, you're doing great,
(05:27):
and so your body wants to get rid of those viruses.
So what's it gonna do. It's gonna get it out.
Wants to get it out of the body. So it's
gonna push it out through what through through one end
to the other. So you're either gonna be sitting on
the toilet, or you could be throwing up, or you
could be sneezing and coughing, and your body's trying to
expel that virus out. The other cool thing that your
(05:48):
body does is it will heat up to a certain
temperature that kills those viruses in bacteria that should not
be in your body. See the viruses in bacteria, they
have in them what's called heat shock proteins where they
can only heat up to a certain amount before they die.
And your body's very smart, it knows this. It's gonna say,
I'm gonna heat up to one hundred or one hundred
(06:09):
and two or even one hundred and three. That's going
to kill these viruses and bacteria without killing you. Well,
what do we do? What has society taught us is
that we're so zoomed in, we're so focused in on
the symptom that we say, I don't feel good, I
feel congestion, I feel fevers, I feel chills. I don't
want to feel this way anymore. So I'm going to
(06:30):
take a medication. I'm going to take a musin X,
I'm gonna take a tilinol, I'm going to take a
fever reducer. I'm going to take any type you know,
insert any type of medication there, and I'm going to
turn off these symptoms. And what you're basically doing is
you're shutting down your body's defenses. You turn them off.
It'd be like if there's a battle waging, the battlefield
is going on, and the battle is you're winning, and
(06:52):
all of a sudden, the general comes and says, retreat
right now. But sir, we're winning the battle. We can
do this. No retreat. We got orders from command. We
have to retreat. We have to lay down your arms
right now. And imagine all the army just lays down
their arms and allows the enemy just to roll them
over and destroy them. That's what you're doing when you
take those medications when you're not feeling well. So instead
(07:14):
of working against your body, because I get it, I've
been there. I sat on the toilet all day, I've
thrown up, I've not felt good. You deal with that stuff,
but you want to support your body in that situation.
And today's show is not just about you know, sickness
and virus and flues, that's like the symptom. That's just
the example that I'm giving you. It's about zooming out
(07:34):
with your health and realizing that symptoms are not your problem.
Symptoms are your solution, and symptoms appear as a lagging
indicator letting you know that there's been problems brewing in
your body for a very long period of time. Not
just with viral infection or back to your infection. I'm
talking with things like heart attack, stroke, answer diabetes, back pain,
(07:57):
neck pain, sciatica, neuropitha, the type one, type two diabetes. Like,
these things don't just pop up out of nowhere. Usually
they accumulate over time and due to willfulness conduct on
your end, not taking care of yourself. What we want
to do is start taking care of ourselves so well,
we zoom out, take care of the whole body, not
(08:17):
just one specific area, and you're going to see amazing
things happen with your body, and amazing changes happen too,
because listen, if symptoms, if symptoms were the main indicator
of health, and we knew everything we knew about our
body through symptoms, then heart attacks wouldn't be a surprise
for people. You hear people say he suddenly had a
heart attack, He had a heart attack out of nowhere,
(08:39):
because he didn't see it coming. Because these major killers,
the major diseases in our country in the world, are
known as silent killers heart disease, cancer, type two diabetes
because they build up inside our bodies over time. But
once you start to become more in tune with your body,
not just with your symptoms, with the signals of your body,
you can start to make better choice. So stay tuned
(09:00):

lot going on to share with you to help if
you're a patient of mind. We have resources at the office.
One of the recent developments is we have brand new
(10:07):
in office educational videos which are really cool. Those are
just for people who are listening from outside the office.
Those are just for our patients when they're sitting in
the waiting area there. We have basically different video bytes
and sound bites to help to educate people as they're
waiting to get their adjustments. And that's really the whole
(10:28):
crux of it here is through chiropractic care. The philosophy
of chiropractic care really plays in in a topic I'm
focusing on today. It's called widening the lens chiropractic care.
The philosophy of it is basically diametrically opposed to the
medical model, the allopathic model. There are two opposite things
in how they look at how the body feels and
(10:51):
functions and works. And this is why there's people say,
you know, why do medical doctors chiropractice, Why are they
add odds? It's not like they don't like each other
like personally, like I know people in the medical field.
These are good people. It's just the systems of which
we look at how the body works its completely different.
So when you look at the medical model, it's very
(11:13):
like centralized control and outwards it's it's doctor centered. And
I'll prove it to you. You go to the you
go to the doctor, the doctor comes up with a
treatment plan, and they can do testing, they can do diagnostics,
so they're they're diagnosing based on the symptoms that you have.
So if you don't have symptoms you go to the doctor,
what are they going to say to you, like, oh,
(11:33):
you're fine, right, Or we can we can run some
labs and we'll try to find some symptoms like some
blood pressure issues or blood problems, things like that. But again,
these symptoms are just they're seen as the enemy in
the medical world, when really they're the signal, they're the
they're the they're the smoke, but they don't the fire. Okay.
And then and then the medical world is broken up
(11:54):
into specialists. So medical doctors are broken up in the specialists.
Whether it's in the NT, whether it's a cardiovascular doctor,
whether it's an endocrinologist, whether it's a rheumatologist, whether it's
a pullmonologist. I mean, you have a doctor for every
part of your body. So really they and I'm not
saying that's necessarily a bad thing, Like you can have
a special that knows more about something, so you can
(12:16):
go there and get things figured out. But you can
see how the system is set up. I'm talking about
the system, and the philosophy is that the body is
to be broken apart and that you are the sum
of your parts. If we can fix one part, then
you'll be Okay. You have a problem in your gallbladder,
you're gonna go to this specific doctor and they're gonna
give you medications through gallbladder or better yet, we're gonna
cut it out, and by doing that, now you're healthy.
(12:38):
It's like looking at a car. Okay, It's like it's mechanistic.
It's all put together, and you can take out one
part and replace it with another part and everything's good.
It's just the sum of the parts. But in Chiropractic,
the philosophy believes that we are more than this. You
are more than the sum of your parts. There's something
else in your body. There's a spark of the divine
(12:59):
that's in your body. Creator breathe life into you, God,
and you have a nervous system. But inside that nervous
system is a healing power. Chiropractic calls this the innate intelligence.
Some people might call this the holy spirit. Some people
might call this intuition. Some people might call this instinct.
And what this is, it's this mechanism that's always or
(13:22):
your good. It's always for your benefit, and it's healing
and running your body. And it's intelligent, and there's a
design and there's control mechanisms, and your body is very smart.
Now I mentioned the words your body. I'm not here
to worship the body. I'm not saying that. What we're doing, though,
is that we're looking at the creation. So God created us.
We are created beings, but he put us spark of
(13:44):
the divine in us, and we have to recognize that
and realize that our bodies and our subconscious mind is
a lot smarter than we are as conscious beings. Okay,
because right now your heart is beating, your lungs are breathing,
your food is died, Bile is being created in your
liver and shunted to your gallbladder right now, you know,
(14:07):
or leaders of blood gallon of blood is being hunted
around your body, you know, every twenty three seconds. And
your brain is healing your body right now, and it's
handling process billions of bits of information every single minute
that you have no conscious control over. Okay. So the
saying came from doctor B. J. Palmer is one of
(14:28):
the founders of chiropractic. This is back in the early
nineteen hundredths. He said, have you more faith in a
spoonful of medicine or in the power that animates the
living world? Have you more faith in a spoonful of
medicine or in the power that animates the living world. Now, obviously,
most people at face value would get that question and
they would say, well, of course I would think that
(14:50):
my body is more capable than a spoonful of medicine.
The issue is, it's not what you say it's not
what you think, it's not what you you necessarily even believe,
it's what you do. Because even for me, I could
talk all this and speak all this over the radio,
but if I'm not following that up with my actions,
(15:11):
then what is it. Faith without works is dead. You're
not going to be living that out unless you're actually
doing it. So I could sit here and say, oh, yeah,
the body heels itself this and that. The minute I
don't feel good I take a medication, I'm not honoring
what I'm saying, okay, And then that creates this cognitive
(15:31):
dissonance in a way. It creates these problems where you're
doing one thing and saying the other. There becomes an incongruency.
And when there's an incongruency between your subconscious mind and
your conscious mind, that's when different things can come into play.
There's like they're at odds with each other, and people
can feel these as symptoms. Now I don't want to
go into too deep into that too philosophical. What I'm
(15:54):
trying to say is that when you're congruent with your body,
good things happen. Not only are you going to be
honoring how your body works and I wouldn't even say
the word helping, but just not interfering with your body.
But you're also going to be living in congruence with
your subconscious mind and that changes your outlook. Some people
are sitting here like, what is this guy talking about? There?
(16:16):
Sounds a little weird. Let me give you a practical
example of this that's pretty simple, and you're going to
be like, Okay, this makes sense. So have a young
young lady who comes to see me, and she's just
twenty two years old. Been dealing with severe headaches, severe
neck pain, severe shoulder pain, even numbness and tingling down
to her fingertips. Now, when she came in, she had
(16:38):
been to doctors in the past did all these different recommendations.
I'm not going to go too far into it, but
basically she was very disheartened. She was dealing with anxiety
as well and a lot of pain. And I can
imagine why because when I went through a specific exam
of her spine. So God put a power on your
body to heal. That power flows over your nervous system. Therefore,
(17:01):
chiropractor looks at the nervous system, of the health of
your nervous system to make sure that that's healing properly
and that it can do what it needs to do.
So how do you do that well? Your spine protects
your nervous system. Your nervous system is the only system
in your body completely encased, bone, completely thrown and protected.
So your spine has to be in proper alignment and
(17:22):
function properly for your nervous system to function properly. Now,
your nervous system cares a lot about what your spine
is doing in space and time. Is that when your
spine is moving properly, your nervous system fees gets the
same hormones and feedback as like happiness and less stress.
When the spine is not moving well and vertebrae are stuck,
(17:44):
the same signals go to your brain as pain does.
Even though you don't consciously feel pain, your brain is
getting signals of stress from your spine. And so if
that happens over and over and over again, constantly happening,
this leads to a term called dysponesis, and it's an
old fancy term to basically say that if your spine
(18:06):
is stressed out, your brain is stressed out. And when
your brain is stressed out, it's going to send signals
to deal with that stress, and it's going to let
you know consciously what's going on. So that can be pain,
that can be things like anxiety. That can be things
like depression. That can be a lower mood, poor sleep,
thirrate issues, all these different types of things can start
(18:28):
to happen because your brain is under stressed. So for
this young lady that that I'm seeing, I taken X
ray of the neck. Now from the side of the neck.
You want to see this nice curve or arc. You're
all just call this the arc of life. You have
to have a forty five degree curve in your neck.
Many people have lost that curve in their neck. Young women,
especially lose the curve in their neck. Women tend to
(18:50):
have a more modest posture than men. Men, it would
be more societally acceptable to walk around with your shoulders
back and your chest sticking out. Now you can kind
of read between the lines here. Is it a societally
acceptable for a woman to walk around sticking her chest out? No,
not as much so. Women in general tend to have
(19:11):
a more slouched, modest posture. The other aspect is cell
phone use and to her own admission. She said that
she's on her cell phone a lot, working on a
computer at work a lot, going through school in the past,
everything pulls us forward. So instead of having a forty
five to gree curve in her neck, she was at
a negative four. The gree curve in her neck. Her
(19:32):
neck was were completely reversed. Now years ago she went
to the chiropractor twenty twenty five years ago, they would
look at that neck and say, when were you in
that car accident? Because you have whiplash. They would say,
that's whiplash. So she has basically the same effects of
whiplash in her neck having never been in a car accident.
And that's happened to many young people from being on
cell phones their whole life. Now it's not just being
(19:54):
on a cell phone a few hours a day. I'm
talking about kids who grew up on an iPad, who
grew up going to school on iPads, on computers all
the time, that's how they learn, and then going home
on their cell phone, and so that puts stress and
strain on the spinal cord. Now, I over the last
three weeks have been getting her adjusted and her neck
has been moving better. Her body's feeling better, functioning better.
(20:15):
And she just said this yesterday, and this is kind
of the whole crux of this show. I said, man,
your neck is feeling so much better. And she's like,
I know. She's like, and it's helped in so many
aspects of life. Not only is the headaches are gone,
neck pain's gone, the tingling's gone. She said, this is
like just change my whole life. Like I just feel
like lighter and happier. And that was the key thing
(20:35):
which she said, change your whole life. And I said
this to her. I said, that's great, and I congratulated her,
and I said, imagine when you first started here. I said,
this is going to change your whole life. She kind
of laughed. She's like, yeah, I kind of think you were.
That's like a weird statement, you kind of like a
little nuts. Well, I'm what I want to tell that everybody,
I want to like jump on the rooftop. It's like
when you get adjusted, you don't even know it yet,
(20:57):
it will change your whole life positive And in this show,
I'm going to try to explain why. So stay tuned.
All right, guys, Welcome back to the show. Doctor Greg
O'Neil Maximized Living Radio. They am talking about widening the
lens with how you look at your health, and really
the start of the show, I'm talking about like not
being so focused on the symptom, but zooming out to
(21:19):
what's causing that symptom, and that widening out about your body.
How the philosophy of chiropractic and medicine, the vitalistic model
versus the allopathic model, how they're basically so different from
one another, and how people can widen their lens to
like realizing that God put a power in their body
(21:42):
to heal, that your body is very capable, and that
we don't need to rush in there and try to
fix your body or try to silence the symptom to
try to turn it off. We want to work with
your body, not against it. That's what I'm doing at
my office. So it's we're working with it, not against it,
because your body's very smart, so you are and you know,
(22:06):
I was really going down this the other day. Is
like Chiropractic and osteopathy as well, are two medical professions
that were founded in the United States. Now, osteopathy was
swallowed up by the medical model in the early nineteen
hundred so traditional osteopathy is totally different now, like when
(22:28):
you hear a doctor of osteopathy, they're essentially a medical doctor. Now.
Now they have some different skill sets and stuff, but
compared to one hundred years ago, you know, they're more
of a medical doctor than a traditional osteopath. So that
was kind of swallowed up. Now chiropractic didn't get swallowed
up by medicine, and they had a battle for a
very long period of time. The history is actually very
interesting when you look into it. But chiropractic is an
(22:51):
essentially American form of healthcare. It's so American. America, compared
to any other country in the world, focuses on the
rights and the success and the happiness of the individual
over the collective. I'm from Canada. Originally Canada focuses more
(23:14):
on the well being of the collective. It's more socialistic society,
and in Europe even more so. More there's more socialism.
We're focusing on how is the society doing as a whole,
And in America it's more like, how are you doing?
How's the individual doing? And there's this rugged individualism that's
(23:36):
truly American. So you think of the cowboys, you think
of people settling the wild West. It was like naked
or break it. It's individual. There's that kind of that
gun ho, we can do it attitude that America has
and still has, and something that I always felt like
I had to a certain degree living in Canada, like
I didn't quite fit in, and then coming here it's
(23:58):
like this is so cool, Like you know down here.
The biggest difference is like I've always been somewhat of
a go getter. I would say, when you start a
business here, and again I'm speaking in generalities here. I
understand that not everyone thinks this way, but I'm just
talking about the American culture at large. You open a
business here, people like good for you, good for you,
(24:18):
like congratulations are like I go to a home show
like in here in the in the United States, and
I have like a booth and stuff. It's like, how's
it going for you? Like people care about like the
success of the entity of your business. Like there's almost
like this like good for you. You're building yourself up,
You're doing this like that that's great. Now in Canada,
(24:40):
when I said I was opening a business, I had
like there was people in my family that almost fainted.
I'm not kidding, Like I couldn't talk to certain members
of my family about two weeks before we were opening
our practice because it's that's not as common. Sure, people
have their own businesses. I'm not saying they don't, but
just that, like entrepreneurial spirit is not as strong as
(25:01):
it is in the United States because it's about getting
the safe job, the government job. How are you doing
as a collective? And one example is with American politics.
I'm not getting into politics by any means, but Canadians
are very enamored by American politics, and Canadian family members
and friends will often text me and they'll say, they'll
(25:23):
text me some link to something that happened, and they'll say,
what to people, what does everyone think down there about this?
And I'm like, I always say, I don't know. I
don't know everyone down here, Like I'm not the representative
of the United States here, but just that question is
such a Canadian question, what does everyone think about this?
They always say that what does everyone think? Now in
(25:43):
America the question would be what do you think about this?
It's just the subtle difference here. Now getting back to chiropractic,
is chiropractic is truly American because it's so focused on
the individual's health. We're not looking now by a f
the individual. You can affect society. We want to look
at it from individual up. Medicine looks at it from
(26:06):
centralized controls down. If we change these policies, if we
change as standard of care, if we have this certain
vaccine schedule or medication schedule, or if we do xyz,
then society will change in these measurable metrics. But it
doesn't focus on the individual fallout of that. You don't
hear that till later on when you hear about people
(26:29):
having reactions to vaccines, or you hear about that medicine
is the number just medical errors alone, the number three
cause of death in the United States. It affects individuals.
Chiropractic looks at it like we're going to get the
individual healthy. Each person is blessed, they have a divine
spark in them, and they are individual and they have
(26:50):
rights and freedoms, and that person needs to be healthy.
And if that person's healthy, then they can be an
influence onto others. It's kind of like, again in a
very American quote, ask not what your country can do
for you, ask what you can do for your country.
Ask not what your body can do for you, Ask
what you can do for your body? Does that make sense?
(27:11):
Ask not what your health, hair, or whatever can do
for you, Ask what you can do for your health.
You see what I'm getting at here. It's about you.
And again I'm talking to Americans on this show. This
should just resonate with you taking that same individual rugged
individualism of America, that same philosophy, and applying it to
(27:31):
your own health. Because many of you, you might be
listening to me, you're not in your head. You might
be putting your hand over your heart and you're like, yeah,
the Star Spangled banner is playing in your mind. Listen
to me talk about this. But we speak this and
think this way, this individualism way. Maybe you think that
way politically or in your own life or socially, but
(27:52):
when it comes to your health, you're not. And that
might sting a little bit, is that you're following dogma fa,
following pacietal norms that don't work. Look around, people are sick,
people are overweight, and ever before life expectancy is not
even going up anymore. Life expectancy is going down. Like
(28:16):
that should be shocking for people all the money we're spending,
all the advances, the budget of the National Institute of
Health and all of this stuff, the CDC, all of it.
They have all the money in the world. They can
do anything they want. It doesn't work. Why because health
is an individual game. Okay, it's not a team sport.
(28:37):
It's not. It's an individual sport. It's you. It's you,
like the person listening. Because it's very easy to deflect.
It's easy to say, well, he's talking to my husband
right now, he's talking about my wife, he's talking about
my kids. No, No, I'm talking to you, the one
that's listening right now. Do this show. You must must
not maybe not one day, not once this happens, or
(28:59):
that how you must take care of your health now.
Now there's an urgency to it because if you don't,
you're gonna end up like everyone else. And you look
at heart disease, and you look at cancer rates, and you
look at everything else, and I could list all those
statistics till I'm blue in the face, but it doesn't matter.
It's about you making the decision to say, you know what,
I'm gonna sit in the driver's seat, I'm gonna grab
(29:22):
the steering wheel of my life, and I'm gonna steer
the car because, in large part, if it is to be,
it is up to me. If it is to be,
it is up to me. Now here's the cool part.
Here's the cool part, because that can sound scary for
some people. It's all up to me. You have got
a lion inside of you. You have got God's power
(29:43):
inside of you. Assisting you is that your body is
self healing, self organizing. You have a healing power. You
have a superhero power inside of your body. Right now,
if you were to cut your hand, your hand is
just it's gonna heal. It's amazing. Like you kill you,
you cut your hand, you might kill like a billion
cells or hundreds of millions of cells. New life is
(30:04):
going to be created. New cellular life is going to
fill that in and heal it. The same power that
heals that cut is the same power that can help
you reverse things like type two diabetes. It's the same
power that can heal you from the back pain that
you're dealing with. The neuropathy, the numbness and tingling, the stiffness,
the poor energy, the poor sleep, all of those things
(30:26):
can be healed and they're healed in people all the time.
But here's the thing. Your body needs no help, just
no interference. All we can do is get in a way,
get out of the way. Get out of the way.
Stop interfering with what your body is trying to do. So,
if your body is staking or fevering or coughing, stop
(30:52):
giving your body poison medications to turn off those symptoms.
Stop it. Drink water, fluids, take vitamin see support your body,
don't interfere with it. And then people wonder why they
get sick in the winter. And then you hear people say, oh,
I'm feeling better. It took these medications. Two weeks later,
(31:12):
they're sick again. They take the medications. Two weeks later,
they're sick again. They say, all I got sick again. No,
you didn't. You suppress the symptoms. You suppressed it down
and now it's going to pop up later. Where does
it go? Okay? You have two people on the street.
One person drinks gasoline or sorry, two people drink gasoline.
One person throws up, one person doesn't. Who's sick the
(31:36):
person who didn't throw up? Your body is smart. Your
body is going to expel these things, is going to
get out of the body. You have to realize that
it's a symptom. The symptom is not the problem. I'm
going to keep repeating this and repeating this and repeating this.
If all I ever do is a chiropractor, say that
over and over and over again until people get it.
That's what I'll do until I'm gray and old. Your
(32:00):
back pain is not the problem. The neuropathy you're dealing
with is not the problem. You're the problem. The lifestyle
that you're living, the choices that you have made up
to this point, that's the problem. That's what needs to
be fixed. That's what needs to be reconstructed and redesigned
and refocused on. It's not your body's fault. It's not
(32:22):
your mom's fault. It's not your dad's fault. It's not
your genetics. It's you. It's the decisions. It's a lifestyle.
And to close out the show before I'm just shaming everyone,
is that we want to focus on the positives and
things that you can do now to help promote and
help healing in your body. So stay tuned. All right, guys,
welcome back to the show, Doctor Greg O'Neill, Maximize Loving
(32:42):
Radio'm getting heated up today. I'm excited talking about widening
the lens zooming out in your life. Okay, let's talk
about how we can do this practically so I'm not
just yelling the whole time. Think of a symptom that
you're dealing with. I'll just name a few common ones.
Whether it's you know, stiffness in your shoulders, tightness, feeling
(33:04):
like you're not moving your neck properly, not able to
touch your toes so like inflexibility, you're not as flexible
as you used to be. You could be dealing with
pain syndromes like lower back pain or neck pain or headaches.
You can be dealing more neurological problems like migraine headaches
where it's involving your stomach or your eyes, or dizziness.
You can be dealing with vertigo, balance issues. You could
(33:26):
be dealing with neuropathy, which is an emerging thing. Numbness
and tingling. These are all signs that your nervous system
is under stress. It's under stress and duress, and dare
I say neglect. I know this stuff's hard to hear.
It's hard for me to say it too, but it's
the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts. I gotta tell you, guys,
many of you listening to this, you're neglecting your spine.
(33:48):
You are you think, oh, it's here's the thing. We
got to widen the scope. Here it feels fine, I'm good.
How have you listened to me? Do you listen? Hey,
your symptom are a legging indicator. They're the last thing
to appear. Okay, they're the last thing to appear. By
the time you got full on back pain, there's a problem.
By the time you got sad. I can nerve not
(34:10):
neces intaining neuropathy, And people get frustrated. They're like, I
didn't deal with the problem my whole life. Now, all
of a sudden, I got all these issues because I'm
getting old. No no, no, no, no no. You're diagnosed
when you're older. But the problems were there when you
were younger. You just didn't either you weren't aware of them,
you were you ignored them, or you medicated them out
and you didn't feel them. Okay, that's Look at the
(34:31):
drug market pain medications. Americans take well over eighty percent
of the painkillers in the world. We are drugged out, numb, doubt,
disconnected from our bodies. We don't know what that feels like.
Now I'm the opposite end. Sometimes I'm like, oh man,
sometimes I'm too aware of my body and I can
feel every every little issue here and there. That's a
(34:54):
whole other story. But we want to be we want
to be aware, want to be conscious of what's going on. So, okay,
it's like dentistry. So people had really bad dental hygiene
and the cavities and teeth falling out, people are getting
false teeth and everything like that back in the day.
So what a dentist say. They said, listen, it's not
all about coming in here and we're just gonna, you know,
(35:16):
take a shot of whiskey and pull all your teeth out.
You have to do it on your own. You're responsible
for your dental health. So this is a toothbrush, this
is toothpaste, this is splocked. You want to brush your
teeth at least twice a day, maybe even three times
a day, and you want to flush, you want to
get the food out. And that makes sense to people.
They can they can see their teeth. They can see that.
(35:38):
And now in our culture, especially having white teeth is
like societally acceptable, having yellow gross teeth is not societally
acceptable in our culture, and so people brush their teeth
and they whiten them and they take care of them,
and you know, it's a whole thing. So like dental hygiene,
people understand that. Now here's the thing. You don't see
(36:00):
your spine. You don't see your spine. So it's not
like you see your spine going yellow or getting cavities
or getting degeneration. But here's the thing, you can kind
of see your spine. I could see people's spine in
a way because I can see your posture. Your posture
is the number one indicator of the health of your spine.
(36:21):
That the number one indicator that without getting the X
ray and diagnostic imaging, it's like the first indicator. Now
people say I said, how's your posture, You're like, well,
it's good, it's fine. Okay, you can't really assess your
own posture. You kind of can if you know what
you're doing, but you really need someone to look at it.
Now you can look in the mirror. Is your head
(36:41):
tilted one way or the other? Is your one shoulder
higher than the other. Now that again, it's just the
knee jerk reaction. People say well, I just need to
pull this shoulder down. Then no, no, no, no, no,
your body is reacts unconsciously. Okay. There's two types of
muscle fibers. It kind of like in a turkey. There's
the white meat and the dark meat. There's the muscles
(37:04):
that you control, there's the muscles that you don't control.
All right, So much of what's going on in your
spine is due to the muscles that you do not control.
These are also known as the postural muscles or the
type two muscle fibers that are that's all controlled subconsciously.
(37:24):
So we have to correct those things subconsciously. Not we
have to make conscious efforts correct them subconsciously. I know
that sounds a little complicated. What do you do? Okay,
So when someone comes into my office, pretty simple, I
check their spine. I check their posture. So that the
head should be level, the eyes should be level, the
ears should be level, the shoulders should be level, the
(37:48):
pelvis should be level. You look at the feet, one
foot should not be swayed out compared to another. Now
from the side, the ears should be back over the shoulder,
but then the shoulders should also be back over the hips.
The hips, over the knees, the knees over the ankles,
et cetera. So it's like you're running a plumb mind
down that person and assessing that Almost listen, and here's
(38:10):
the thing. It's like, if you've never taken care of
your spine before, please don't. You just can't jump into denial.
Don't don't deny it. Okay, it's just it's just how
it is. Like imagine I was a dentist and I
was saying, listen, you gotta be brush your teeth twice
a day. If you didn't, if you weren't brushing your
teeth twice a day for fifty years, you can't have
the arrogance to sit here and say or the ignorance.
(38:31):
The arrogance are the ignorance to say, oh my teeth,
my teeth should be good. Right, well you can see
your teeth. You wouln't believe the number of people that
I meet and they're like, oh, my my spine's fine,
my spine's good. I'm like, who are you trying to
convince me? Or yourself? All right, so you want to
get an evaluation. Check the posture. Then we check the
range of motion. Now this is eye opening for people
when they actually because most people have they don't go
(38:54):
through the ranges emotions of their spine. They're not testing it.
So I have people bend their chin forward all the way,
I have the look all the way up and back.
I have them come back to new try to try
to lean their left ear to the right to their
left shoulder, lean the right ear to the right shoulder,
then turn their chin over to their shoulder, and turn
the other chin over to their shoulder. So they go
through all the ranges of motion. And you wouldn't believe
(39:15):
how reduced people's range emotion is. And that's when it
becomes eye opening because I'll do it with them and
I'll show them my range emotions good. So I'll show
them like I'll guide them through and they're watching me
do it. Then they do it. They're like, oh my,
you should hear. People are like, oh my gosh, like
my spine. I didn't realize my spine was as bad.
And then go ahead and without bending your knees, touch
(39:37):
your toes half. People will laugh. People will laugh. They're
like I can't do that, or they'll say I haven't
tried to do this in years, and they'll come down,
they can only go about halfway and then they'll try
to lean back. They can't lean back. They try to
lean side to side. They can hardly do that. It's like, oh, okay,
you know two see doctor Greg, like, there's an issue here.
(39:57):
Then I have people sit down and I feel what's
going with the spine. Similar to a dentist, they probe
your teeth, so they're testing for areas of sensitivity and
they push in and you can feel if it's sensitive.
Now it's under the surface, so you may have a
cavity in your mouth. You have no idea that it's there.
Now the dentist goes in and they touch it with
(40:17):
the probe. All of a sudden, you let up be like,
ow that hurt. The dentist didn't hurt you. They're just
bringing to the surface. So they're elucidating a problem that's
hidden under the surface. Okay, So I'm feeling along the
spine and I feel vertebrae that are noticeably out of alignment.
I'll push in to test the motion of that vertebrae
and people are like, oh wow, like there's that issue
in the neck or yet that I can feel that
(40:39):
headache or I can feel that back pain, and where
I'm able to discern which vertebrate ort of alignment, then
the best indication is we have people, if necessary to
take extras, to take them right at the office, and
I'm able to see to the degree to the middimeter
that your spine's out of alignment. And this way we're
widening the lens the name of the show, widening the lens,
We're zooming out and we're able to see where you're
(40:59):
at compared to where you should be, and better yet,
where you're at now and where we can get to
and then chiropractic care. Essentially, it introduces motion to the spine,
proper motion. Vertebrae that are not moving. We're gonna move
those vertebrae so that you're going to regain function of
the motion of that vertebrae. And over time, you're gonna
(41:21):
be able to lean your head better, You're gonna be
able to touch your toes, you're gonna be able to
bend and turn your neck. And you know what starts
to happen when your spine can move and it's flexible
and you remove what's called subblixation. This alignment the spine.
Your brain loves that, It just loves it. It gets
so happy because good signals go up to your brain
called mechanal receptors, and it says, this feels good, this
(41:44):
motion feels great. And then your brain feels good and
you start sleeping better and the energy is better and
the mood is better. And again, I've been doing this
for over thirteen years, and I've heard people get rid
of They're like, oh, my back pain's better, my neck pain.
I'm like, I've heard that. I'm not trying to be
I'm like, I've heard that a million times. But when
people say, like, I'm sleeping better, I'm sleeping through the night,
(42:06):
I'm nicer to my kids, I have more patience. I
feel like I have less stress, even though life is
the same. It's not that you have less stress. It's
not that you're necessarily being like a better person or
any like that. Is that your your nervous system is
not as overloaded and it's able to adapt more so.
Most people are burning the you know, the saying you're
(42:26):
burning the candle on both ends. Chiropractic helps to put
more whax on the candle so that in our lives,
you can You can have it all. You can do
the things you want to do. You want to go
on vacations and still be a parent and still work
and take the kids to school and help them with
their homework and take them to sports. Or when you're older,
(42:47):
you want to be retired and relaxed, but you also
want to go garden, or you want to go golfing,
or play pickle ball, or go for a walk around
the block. Well, you can't do those things if your
spine's got a whack, if your spine's all jacked out,
full of degeneration arthritis, you're not going to be able
to do those things that you want to do, and
you're not going to be able to live the life
that you enjoy. And when you're not living the life
(43:07):
that you enjoy, many people fall into that medical way
of thinking where they just start to back up. They
put themselves from the driver's seat into the backseat or
even into the trunk of the car of health, and
they start giving up all those areas well. I guess
I can't play pickleball anymore. I guess I can't garden anymore.
I guess I can't do this. I guess they can't
do that, and one day people end up in the
(43:28):
nursing home. They wondering what the heck happened. It's because
they gave up on life and they let it go
instead of stepping forward, taking a step forward. You know,
if fear insists on knocking meet it at the door,
If fear insists on knocking meet it at the door.
The thing that you know that you should do that
you're not doing. You need to do that for your health.
(43:49):
And for many people listening to this, you have every excuse,
every excuse not to take care of yourself, not to
pick up the phone, not to make an appointment with
me or any other chiropractor. And I urge you it's
urgent you have to take care of yourself now before
you get yourself in a big jam. So guys signing off,
have a blessed week, Doctor Greg, take care
