RJ Harris Speaks to Adam West from iHeartRadio in Minneapolis about the Smoke

Adam West, a friend of the hosts and iHeartRadio Minnesota DJ, joins the show to discuss the recent wildfires in Minnesota and the impact of the smoke on the surrounding areas.

The serious topic of the wildfires, which are currently burning in the Boundary Waters Canoe area. Adam shares his perspective on the situation, explaining that the fires are believed to be caused by lightning and that firefighters are working to contain the blaze.

we're here in Pennsylvania. Weason as a result of smoke
inbound from Minnesota and Canada. And the reason she played
Batman is Adam West is on the phone. Adam West,

Ladies and gentlemen, good morning, How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Good morning?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
How are you good? I can't believe she did that
to you. I was gonna I was not going to
Adam West, you and the Batman stuff until after this
serious stuff is over. But Holly went there right away.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
That's fine. My mother did it to me originally years ago.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, she did. So what's you know? My name is
Richard Harris. And the other day I said it at
they said what's your name? And I had to give
him my name. I said, Richard Harris. And this lady
goes crazy, Oh Richard Harris, oh by by blah blah blah.
But you have really gotten it because of Batman. You've
put up with it all your life.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
I got all these gifts here that you know, people
give me all the time, and they're very clever, very clever.
I I've got plenty now, but I appreciate everything that
I've ever gotten.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
So yeah, no, and you've done well. I should point
out that Adam is an iHeart or an iHeart cohort
and friend of Holly's in Minneapolis, so give us the perspective.
I know the fires are in the northern part of
the state, correct.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, yep, yep, yeah. They are around the Boundary Waters
Canoe area, which is sort of a sacred place for
Minnesota's even though I would say that most of us
have never even been close to there. But it's idyllic,
it's you know, you bring a canoe there, there's no
motors allowed, there's no cell towers. As a matter of fact, Wow,
which is They tried to build one of the I

(01:52):
don't know ten years ago and they said, we want
to keep this wilderness up here. So it's a really
big deal. Obviously, a lot of forest and stuff and.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
It's burning now. Is it the same fire? In other words,
is it reach into Canada? Or are we dealing with
two separate issues here?

Speaker 1 (02:09):
I believe they are two separate issues. And I believe
this was caused by lightning. And so you know, when
this happens, you go, well, at least it was natural.
This is not man made, but it's sort of like sugar, right.
It's you say, well, it's natural sugar, but it is
still sugar. Right. It's depressing to see all this burning.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah, and what is the state? I know you put
firefighters in there, but is it such a fire that
it's tough to fight or are they getting a grip
on it at least even a little.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
I think they're getting to grip on it. Some of
it has already burned, I believe, you know. Usually when
this happens, they burn control fires around it to keep
more from burning. I saw an interview with a firefighter
on the news last night. He's been doing this for
like forty years, so I don't know how old he is,
but his perspective is well, I get some great views
in the woods, and I thought, are you kidding me?

(03:00):
The other way? Yeah, so that's pretty crazy to me.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
That is crazy. When you see what they are up against,
it is amazing. And even the tankers, when you're flying
one of those huge aircraft into and over a fire
and dumping all that and then go back and pick
up more, it's it's a pretty crazy thing. We're so
blessed to have these people.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah, and I figure. I'm good at pushing buttons. I'm
in radio. I don't know how they do this. It's
like if you've ever seen you know, like when they
bomb a swamp or something for Mosquitos, you know those guys. Yeah, yeah,
I don't know how how all that works.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah. Hey, you're right, we're in radio. We push buttons.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Do you know, Adam, is where did you live? You
lived in Camp Hill?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
I did, yeah, for a few years. I was just
asking my mom not too long ago, like where was that?
It's so I think it's a red house on Wentworth Avenue. Wow.
So if you're listening, then that's you that you know,
maybe I live there.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
So were you in a military family or something that
took you around the country.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
No, it was just uh I think my grandparents lived
there and we had to live there for for a
little while. But you remember the Hokies, those carpet sweepers.
Nobody remembers them. It's like a silent carpet sweeper, and
they sold those. So that tells you a little something
about about the company, I guess.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Wow, yeah, that is something. Well, Adam, thank you for everything.

Uh.

I know you're not near the fires, but be safe
and thanks for coming on.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah you got it was really smoky here on Thursday,
and I'm sorry about all of this. We gave you,
gave me post notes and honey out cheerios, and now
you've given you fire and target.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yes, Minnesota has contributed, I mean post it notes on
its own. Where would we be without them even still today?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Right exactly?

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah, Okay, Adam West, thanks take care, you got it?
Bye bye? All right? Uh here he goes. That's yeah, yeah,
that is, there's no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
I mean, I'm glad to hear that it's a lightning strike, cause,
like you said, it's not some Yahoo with a dumb
you know baby gender reveal that you know.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Didn't or set it intentionally for some right. And you're
seeing a lot of that on the internet on social media.
You know what surprised me on social media? And then
again no is there are people out there that believe
that Canada started the fires so that they knew that
the smoke would end up down this way. It's like,

(05:32):
you know, folks, you really I get conspiracy theories and
all that, but at some point you've got to look
in the mirror and say, come on, really, really.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
I mean, I know there's crazy people out there, don't
get me wrong, but.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
A lot of crazy people. But and and is there
somebody crazy enough to do that on their own? Because
the politics will be sure, we've had that, you know,
where they're motivated by whatever.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Let's just hope not Let's hope they get it under control.
And obviously, like Steve Knight said earlier, is that the
rain comes through and kind of washes it away.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Well, it will tomorrow, but it's going to be later
in the day. A lot of people think they're going
to wake up tomorrow the smoke's going to.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Be Yeah, not so much. And you know there's a
big concert at Hershey tomorrow too, so I don't know.
I'm actually thinking about reevaluating our daytime plans for that concert.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yeah, what times concert begin?

Speaker 3 (06:25):
The concert doors open at six, but we usually set
up you know a lot of people do in the
till day lot by like two.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Now it sounds like that's going to be tough, yeah,
because that's when stuff is rolling in. Yeah, and it's
supposed to be thunderstorms and blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
So uh, and then we'll keep you posted if anything
does go you know Wild for the concert tomorrow. Just
check our social media's Okay.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
In the meantime, this is a purple alert, and we
our meteorologists can't remember their ever being one, and I
don't either.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
I don't remember there it being a purple alert. Who
would think that there was an alert that would be
higher than Red Wild? No, it is because I always
thought that was the as alerts go, that was the
top end. But I guess not. Okay. The advice though,
if you can stay in today, if you're in the car,
put it on recycle. Okay, the recycle air button. That's

what everybody is saying you need to do. Makes common sense.
You're recirculating the air in the cabin and most cars
have pretty good filters in this day and age. So
all right, eight forty four, you start every day in
that old, tired bathroom. You deserve a bathroom you love.
