(00:00):
The van. Just in case youmissed it, it's the top five spot
Stagers of the day. Now it'stime for Dan Barrero's Top five and five
driven by Bordon Volvo, America's mostawarded Volvo retailer. I am already pleased
with the audience and impressed because they'vealready I just asked for this five minutes
ago, They've already sent a numberof outstanding text in for Luigi as we

(00:24):
talk the history of the state highschool hockey tournament. Welcome back to the
studio, Welcome back to the greatstate of Minnesota. Really nice. I
mean, did you get lost andon your way a little bit? Yeah?
I got the direction. Yeah, you know, I went on my
phone. Outstanding. What's good tohave you back. Thanks for the time,
and let's get to some top fiveand five and stuff. First,

(00:45):
Guardgie, and it is a BigTen Tuesday, with the Big Ten Basketball
Tournament starting tomorrow in Minneapolis. We'vegot the women this week, We've got
the men next week. And Kyleand Clark, who will be here on
Friday, set another record this pastweekend. The Iowa Highest state game on
Sunday at Carver Hawkey Arena attracted morethan four million television viewers at its peak

(01:07):
and was the most watched women's regularseason basketball game since nineteen ninety nine.
Average viewership was three point three ninemillion, reached a high of four point
four to two mil late in thesecond half. No women's regular season game
on any network had more viewers sincethree point eight million tuned in for yukon
Tennessee. That would be Geno patSummit in January nineteen ninety nine. She's

(01:30):
become a commodity Luigi that goes wellbeyond the sport that she plays. It's
unbelievable what she means to the gameof basketball, to women's sports on TV.
It's just wonderful. What an attraction, you know, It's just amazing
what she can continue to do.And for a moment, I was thinking,
why are you gonna leave college? You make eight hundred thousand dollars a

(01:52):
year in NIL and they what's thehighest paid women at WNBA players two fifty.
Well, she makes so much onthe side, it doesn't matter,
it doesn't matter. There's like apparently, in addition to the sponsorships she's likely
to carry over, there's apparently likefour or five others each may be willing
to pay her as much as threemillion bucks a year. So would you
like to be running that Indiana teamright now? You know they double season

(02:16):
ticket costs? All righty, well, you're gonna understand. What I do
like is that she's going to astate that, just like hockey here,
has such great history basketball in Indianaat every level. Right So that to
me, I have no idea howwell run that franchise is at this point.

(02:36):
It's been pretty well run, hasit been. They've been Yeah,
that's true. I've had some runs. The Links beat him in the final
Sea. I mean, it's theIt's that's part of what I like about
it. It's all that pomp andcircumstance will be appreciated there because they they
have such a great basketball history.I even like I assume they they play
in Canseco or what used to becalled Banks all of it or game Bridge

(02:58):
is what they call it now.All of it's good. So that will
be definitely a story to watch becauseI don't think she's going to get lost
in that league. The league hastended to swallow up some other really good
players to an extent in terms ofpopularity, But I think I think there's
a good chance regardless of the timeof year that they play, they're playing
basketball. I think she's going toelevate it to a large degree, don't

(03:19):
you. Definitely? And I thinkshe's she's opening the doors for so many
more women basketball players to get greatrecognition because it's gonna it's just going to
be like the focal point for women'ssports right now. I get excited to
watch her. I don't even know. I never you know, I never

(03:42):
watched anybody but the University of Minnesotauntil she started playing. And and uh,
now when she's playing, I wantto watch. Chiffs Coggins was on
with us a few days ago.He was at the game where Caitlin broke
one of the records at the Barnand where guards he was, and we're
just musing out loud. It's it'slike, well, not only is she

(04:05):
the best known women's college basketball playerright now, she may well be the
best best known college basketball player period. The men are in a period where
there's a lot of sameness to it. There's you know, people come and
go really fast, and Zach eEdy it Purdue is pretty well known.
But beyond that, in terms ofhigh profile. How many other male basketball

(04:29):
players are there who have her profileright now? And in the old days
there have been a bunch right whenthey stayed three or four years, the
Christian Latners of the world, youknow, the Fab Five's of the world
that's hung around. But now theycome and go so quickly that I don't
think there's anybody on her on herlevel. Until you mentioned Needy, I
wouldn't known anybody. I know her, but I don't know any men's y

(04:49):
basketball players. Just you're exactly right. And I have to tell you,
I'm going to be honest about thisbecause this bothered me for a little while
because I didn't want her to bebetter than Paige Bukers. I don't know
why I couldn't get that out ofone of us. Yeah, I actually
couldn't get it out of my system. No, please, don't don't be
as good as her. But nowI've given up. Yeah, and I

(05:13):
have to just appreciate she is onehundred percent uh go for women tomorrow night
against Rutgers. Mara Bron named AllBig Ten Honorable Mention Today, Grace Kroholski
named to the All Freshman Team Timberwolvesone last night one nineteen. Let me
ask you this on uh that wasthe first team Big Ten? Did you
say for no, Mari was ourhonorable man? I don't mention, oh

(05:33):
so, but given how badly theteam has played without her, lost by
is it like one hundred and twelvepoints? The last two games not been
good? Can that work in herfavorite from the nil standpoint where say,
well, I think she's proven herwork and her value on the basis of
what has happened since she went down. I couldn't believe she didn't get more

(05:54):
Big Ten Player of the Year voteright when you see her value for the
for the squad, because yeah, honor will mention missing the last I don't
know, core games whatever, it'sbeen ten or eleven games. What do
they want to get to? Oh? Speaking of missing games, Anthony Edwards
missed the start of the one lastnight. They did play the Portland Trail
Blazers the Timberwolves. Did they hitthe road now for a while because they've

(06:14):
got a clear out of target centerwith the Big Ten women's basketball tournament this
week and the men coming next week. It was Rudy Gobert Knight really because
he was the one that led theway twenty five points sixteen rebounds for Gobert
leading. I think it's six Timberwolvesin double figures, including Edwards, who
had thirteen points off the bench withsix assists. He was in distributor mode
last night. He lost track oftime, according to him, and missed

(06:39):
the opening. So that's as muchinfo as we've gotten. Are we going
to get anymore? I mean, because it's so open ended, you lost
track of time doing what I thinkhe said he was in the training room,
okay, but I don't know forsure. Yeah, I thought that's
what I saw. My prediction ishe was talking to somebody and he did
lose track of time obviously, andthat's basically it. And Louis we were

(07:00):
surprised that there's so many minions.Now. We just assumed that, you
know, there'd be somebody reminding himbecause most of these teams don't leave anything
a chance anymore. They don't assumeanything when it comes to adulthood. At
this point, they assumed that, well, all we gotta we gotta hold
them by the hand. We gotto make sure they do this. We
got to make sure that there's thatwhether it's about uh food, you know,

(07:20):
whether it's about uniforms, whether it'sabout travel, whatever the case may
be. But it's an odd,uh odd deal. Did you ever miss
the opening face off? Did youever lose track of time at any level
as a hockey player and missed theopening face off for that reason? I
don't know anybody's ever missed the openingface off? And I just cannot believe

(07:43):
that happening. I mean, Iyou know, we we did one time
we almost missed the opening face offas a team because we got locked in
the watch you we locked Blair inthe room by mistake, and we couldn't
find them to kid out there inPittsburgh. And then we finally did.
And I just don't know. Theygive you, I don't know in basketball,

(08:07):
but in hockey they give you,you know, the buzzer for three
minutes. Maybe he had earphones onor something. I just don't his noise
canceling headset or something. Yeah, yeah, it's it's because a couple of
people have said, why are wemaking such a big deal of this?
People are late for work all thetime. Oh my goodness. Not the
greatest analogy I've heard. But youknow, especially when you're playing a game,

(08:28):
maybe you know it's just, uh, well, I can't believe that
that happened. I don't know ifany other sports that's ever happened, not
that I could recall. We mentionedThurman Thomas was not late for the game.
He was late for getting on thefield as a member of the Buffalo
Bills because he couldn't find his helmet. And the Super Bowl played here at
the Dome Metrodome, but that's sortof a different situation. Finchy did not

(08:52):
look happy at all. I meanwhen he was asked about it after the
game, all he said was hekind of bit off the words. You'll
have to ask him. That wasthe I was. You know, I
wanted a little more from all that, but it was very clear that he
was not particularly pleased. Now,originally he was supposed to be on PA
today his weekly appearance, and thatgot postponed for a day. Now,
that could have been coincidence, butyou also wonder if maybe he wanted the

(09:16):
emotions to lesson a little bit andI have to worry about talking about it
all that much and then maybe everybodywill forget by tomorrow, although I don't
think most of us will. Ithink money money has really changed sports I
I. It's all of a sudden. The coaches don't have the power they
had before. You could say whatyou want, But they don't have the
power they and they get challenge andquestioned by players which you would never think

(09:41):
of doing before. That's all becauseof money and what it means to the
teams. Now we're just money andfree agencies making made a big, big
change, no doubt about it.Let's going to do that. We'll do
it all right. We got alot of good texts that have already come
in. We're going to spend mostof our time with Louis today talking about
his sixty years covering the state highschool hockey tournament in Minnesota, the ebbs

(10:05):
and flows of that, some changes, some great memories I know as well.
And we'll get to all that andkeep the text coming because we've got
some very good texts from our audienceas well. Bratchw on Brian Kaffe in
text line six four six eight sixthe fan. Oh, we spoke a
moment ago about the teams that areback here at the Saint PAULI cific Center,
Mark. How about the color commentatorswho are back also, we're talking

(10:28):
about North Star general manager lou Nannyand former golfer Olympica and New York Ranger
coach Herb Brooks. We'll talk toboth of them, but first let's go
out to lou Nanny, who joinedus from the Alive at the met Sports
Center where the North Stars are playingToronto tonight. Louis have a lot to
smile about these days. What aboutthe state tournament? What do you expect
this year? Well, look,Mark, I'd have to say there's a
strong possibility and we could see arematch from last year. A state high

(10:48):
school hockey tournament. The favorites comingin have to be Hill Murray, Burnsville
and Vimidgi. Butmidgie's got a toughergame to get through because they've got Hiving
first. Should they beat Hibbing andshould Hill Murray win, and that's two
tough games in a row for them. Burnsville seems to be in the somewhat
lighter bracket, but overall, asyou know, anytime you've got a one
game playoff, anybody could win.But if I was to pick a final

(11:11):
game right now, matchup, I'dhave to say Hill Murray against burns Ball.
Louis, you gonna get your shareof hockey this year. You never
get enough of it. I thinkthat it's the most exciting sport, the
fastest sport going. And every timewe get the opportunity to see good hockey,
it's a lot of fun. Lookforward to seeing again tomorrow at noon,
lou Nanny of the Minnesota North starts. We sneaks around the world yet

(11:46):
ride in the world. Nanny. He's in studio with us, and you
just heard a really nice bit ofhockey history guards He tells me that was
from the previewing the nineteen eighty sixState High School Hockey Tournament. So that

(12:07):
was early, Louis in your runas the color analyst voice of the sat
High School Hockey Tournament. Correct twentytwo years but thirty eight years ago,
so that that early. You're right, Yeah, it's I've been going here.
That's it. It's crazy. Doyou rose in there? So you

(12:28):
were doing it with Herbie Herb Brooks. He did some games in as well,
and I think he worked on thedesk in between, you know,
in between periods, and we hadChris Cuthbert come in from he was an
argument in Canada voice. He camein. He still misses it. He's
calling me called me again last year. Hey, Luke, can I get
back and doing these games? Hey, you guys did come and really enjoy

(12:50):
it and rough John Fritz was there, Doug Woo worked wow between some periods.
Yeah, we had quite a crewthen. So this is year sixty
and you've announced, we announced, you confirmed with us this is going to
be the last year, and sothat's why we wanted to make this really
this segment series of segments, largelyabout the state high school hockey Tournament.

(13:13):
A lot of good texts have alreadycome in. Now, are you beginning
to have second thoughts about your decision? Because I'd rather know if you are,
you tell us now. And Idon't think people be mad at you.
In fact, I think they wouldbe pleased if you said, you
know what, I've thought about itsome more. I'm going to come back
for sixty one. I thought aboutit, and I'm not coming back.

(13:33):
I mean, I'm really comfortable withit. I loved doing this. Yeah,
it was terrific, great part ofmy life. But I'm ready for
a change. Yeah, I justthink it's time. You know, maybe
I get tired to hear myself talkso much, so I just I don't
know, but I really loved it, enjoyed it. It's just like when
I left managing, and since Ileft, I said, I haven't missed

(13:56):
it five seconds. It's going tobe the same with this. I loved
that, I really loved it.But when I make a change and I'm
ready for it, I'm going totell you a story that stayed with me
in my whole life and maybe reallyaffected things that I do. When I
was thinking about leaving managing being ageneral manager, we had a series a

(14:18):
game in Quebec against the Russians andthe NHL All Stars Quebec City. I
remember going through the banquet line actuallybuffet line, and right in front of
me was Sammy Pollack, who wasone of the best. People consider him
the best general manager of any alltime. And he was in the financial
business. Now I'm actually working inreal estate finance. And he was in

(14:41):
front of me in line and Itaught the Mona show to Sammy. How
are you doing good, lou howare you? I said, I gotta
ask you a question. It's what'sthat? I said, When did you
know it was time to quit? And he turned to me and he says,
you'll know and I remember that becauseI was going to We didn't have
computers and stuff like that. Thatwhen I first started general manager, we

(15:01):
had teles as you sent a telex. So I was going on a telex
machine to say I signed Mike Polichas a free agent, so I'm gonna
have to go to arbitration. AndI was sending it to Sammy Pollock because
he was a general manager. Andas I'm walking there, the tellics starts
beppepeep, and I pick it upand says, Sammy Pollack has just retired,
which I was happy about. NowI got to agree against herv Grunman

(15:24):
I beat him in the arbitration wouldhave been a lot tougher with Sammy.
So I thought of that, andwhen I quite I felt good about it.
One year, I'm having breakfast seventhirty in the morning. I get
a phone rings to pick it up. Loo, Yeah, it's Bobby Clark.
What's up. I got to askyou a question, what's that?
When did you know you were readyto quit? And I said, I'm

(15:46):
going to tell you what Pollock toldme. You'll know. And that's the
way I feel about this decision.I know it's time to leave and I
feel good about it. I don'tregret it. I'm going to miss it,
but I'm not. I'm not gonnathink that I should have stayed longer,
gone back. Well, it's funnyyou say that, because we talked
about this yesterday and I said,I brought up the general manager precedent that

(16:11):
once you decide, and I admirethis in you. I don't think you
equivocate a lot. I don't thinkyou second guess yourself a lot. I
don't think you have time for that. And that's hard for a lot of
people because some people don't have thatlever, that ability. They're constantly laboring
over that, they're constantly second guessing. Well, with you, I sense
that when you get there, you'rethere and end the story. You know.

(16:33):
Funny that statement as you made whenI quit and I retired like that,
I got it. I got atext, I mean itelics from Reese
Philion and he said, Lou,I wish I could do what you did.
And I had ten general managers callme and say the same thing.
You're right. A lot of peoplejust can't pull the trigger, can't do

(16:53):
it, and I'm fortunate that Ican, and I don't equivocate about it.
I don't regretit, and I justmoved forward with my life sixty years
I want to get with There's alot of individual moments in this tournament I
want to try to discuss, andI will include several of the texts have
come in because there's some really reallygood ones. I was looking through the

(17:14):
historical timeline of the tournament, andit was nineteen and I was here for
this. The tournament moved from firstit went to Mets Center in sixty nine,
then it moves to Saint Paul CivicCenter in seventy six. Ninety two
was when the Tier one and Tiertwo structure was adopted, right, and

(17:41):
then yeah, the tier I thinkthe Tier two tournament was as you say,
at target, center of them wereboth of them were okay? Is
that right? Okay? So thatwas very different than Class A and A
structure, which is what ultimately wewent to in nineteen ninety four, and
I think that's basically what we've hadpretty much ever since. It's right when

(18:02):
you look back on the Tier oneTier two, explain what you're a member
of it and whether you were afan of it or you thought no that
this isn't This isn't going to dowhat we think it's going to do.
It's not a good idea. Well, I I have to be honest,
I wasn't a fan of it,and I I wasn't a fan because I
liked the best teams to be thereand and not have trophies for all different
divisions and things. Although now thata tier one night when you're gonna call

(18:29):
them one or two has gotten somuch better and and I appreciate it now,
and now I still wish that they'resome of those teams single labor playing
double A because they're good enough tobe there, you know. I I
just like the purity of the otherthing. The only I have one regret,
and and uh when they started likethat, then then I had to

(18:51):
do both tournaments, and I didn'twant to do both tournaments. That's a
lot of games. That was alot of games. And the station says
to me, high schoolgue says, you got to do it. It doesn't
give any legitimacy to it if you'renot doing some of those games. So
I was doing those games for fiveyears, but the first year was really
bad, unfortunately, and I andthat's that's the one time that when you

(19:12):
say, do you ever regret seeingsomething on TV? And all the years,
and it's the only time I regrettedanything because it was in that first
year. I didn't want to dothe games. There was too many games
for me to do two tournaments andand and doing the tournament that I really
wasn't in favor of having, andthe game was really bad and I'll never
forget because it was a third period, nobody scored and Wally Shaver says to

(19:37):
me, well, Lou, whatdo you think is gonna win this game?
And it came out before I couldeven grab it back, and I
said, first team complete three passeswill win. And that's the only time
I regret because I did want tobe there and it wasn't very good,
and my emotions overtook me for thefirst time, and I regretted saying that
ever since. And it's just fortune. But now I've been proven to be

(20:03):
so wrong because there's so many goodteams in that single a now and I
really enjoy some of those games, you know, don't. I don't work
single a now because there are toomany games. I'm not gonna work more
in seven games. Sure, I'mexhausted as it is when it's over,
but I'll be the one ones andI watching because I enjoy those teams.

(20:25):
There's really some good occuplating that tournamentas well. Uh, let's get to
some text too, and we're goingto look to get into a lot of
individual moments and games that stand outfor everybody and maybe a couple underrated ones
that do for you as well. This is from a consolation champ, Guy
Louis, as a Bloomington Jefferson kidof the eighties and nineties, you were

(20:48):
there for some of my for someof my favorite sports moments of all time,
even when Dave Spihar killed the dynastyin ninety five with the first period
hat trick. Your call was rivetingand you can be found on YouTube the
five third market. The video wouldbe the moment Spihard burst on the tourney
scene and it seemed like you knewhe was something special already. Lots of
people remember how great of a ninetyfive tourney he had, but lots also

(21:11):
forget that it all started with atotal dismantling of a juggernaut in the first
period of the first game, afive to nothing rout of my Jags.
Was that the best individual performance youever saw in the tournament, and he
closes with this PostScript, thanks forsixty amazing years. Well, it's so
odd that he said that, becauseI just telling someone I've had so many
interviews this week, and one ofthe they're asking me about the best moments

(21:36):
you ever remember, and I says, there's so many I can tell you,
but there are some special ones. And let me give you an indication
of two very unusual ones. Centennialwins the state tournament and their goal Tenner
got three shutouts in three games, unbelievable, unheard of. And Dave Er
got a hat trick in every gameof that tournament, again unbelievable. He

(21:56):
got nine goals, three in eachgame. And as he talking about in
the Jaguars, Bloomington Jaguars in theeighties and nineties had some great teams,
great runs. Probably one of theirteams is as good as ever been in
the tournament. So tough to judgeone team against an extra because of the
time periods, but they certainly werea team of their time. And then

(22:18):
Saturn Doll and I had to runthat was unreal. What do you do
you remember? Do you have anyparticular memories because I wasn't here yet when
the tournament moved to matt Center.I think that was in nineteen sixty nine.
Stayed there till seventy six. Itwasn't a long run. What was
it like there? Do you haveany particular memories of what the scene was

(22:38):
like at the Center? By theway, that's where Bouche got hurt.
It's there, But my memory,my, you talk about unusual memories.
One of them was an interview.I got to interview Andrea the Giant.
I used to take some of thewrestlers. I had, you know,
a crusher, but I had Andreathe Giant, and my god, when
I shook hands with him, I'llnever forget the size of it. And

(23:00):
then and when the size of himI looked up, it was amazing.
And the funny part about that was, I don't know if I told you
this, but later that year,we were playing in Montreal, and Roger
Bear had an interest in a barin Montreal, and and so after the
game we played the Canadians, wewent down to Rogiel Bear's bar, and

(23:23):
who do I run into? Wasin there? Andrea the Giant. So
I'm talking to him, and rightbeside him on the other side with this
guy was being very rude and roughon his girlfriend or wife, and Andrea
tapped him on the shoulders and that'senough. And the guy turns around like
really angry and mad. And ashe turned around, his head was in
Andrey's belly, and then his headjust kept going up up and looking up

(23:45):
up till until he got to thetop of the head and he says,
and Andre says out and the guyjust went out, took care of business.
Yeah, that's pretty that's a prettygood memory as well. And then
so we moved to the Civic Centerfor good. What did I say in
seven six I think, let medouble check the uh the years which is
still uh before my time. Acouple of people had texted, you know,

(24:10):
uh the clear boards, which whichwas a trademark of of obviously same
the same Paul Civic Center. Whatwhat you remember about that? I remember
that I didn't like playing and didn'tlike looking through them because you don't get
the same perception of where you arein the ice if you're playing and if
you're up above you're looking down throughthe ice. That I know. It

(24:30):
was a novelty and some people appreciated. I I really didn't because it h
you give you a different feel forfor playing or broadcasting. It was something
that almost kept the Wild from cominginto fruition because that's when the NHL came
to look at the arena and theowners didn't like those glare boards too much.

(24:55):
One hundred greatest m A, SH s L Players. And I
don't recall all what year this wasestablished. It's about two years ago.
Two years ago. It was abunch of us, I can't remember.
Yeah, four or five six guyshad like a committee that got together,
got together and it's an impossible jobtime. I said, you can't really

(25:15):
compare players in different time periods becauseyou know, it's totally different. It's
good to be fun, it's funto do, but it's harmless to be
honest, to be accurate. I'mso, how did you guys? So
did you guys? Just like, how did you figure it out? I'm
going to get to some of thenames and rankings, but is it you're
sitting around at your restaurant arguing witheach other in the high school office and

(25:40):
and the good part is they hadall the records from all the years so
they could give you. They giveyou the names and then jots your memory
and comes back, you know, give you an idea about the people and
the times and and and the teamsat that time. Did it get pretty
hot and heavy sometimes? The debateactually it was. The beating was good.
Yeah, it wasn't right, butit was not to be very very

(26:04):
well held handled and good points made. And guys that it's funny because each
of us could remember different things aboutindividuals that guys might have forgot, and
which brought the case to be assuch and such player at number thirty five
or something. Who else was onthe do you remember who was? Saturdal

(26:26):
and myself and uh someone from thestate High school league and I forget there
I think two others. But itwas good, it was It was a
good, good way to jog yourmemory because when you go to them in
the years it you know, ittakes time to try and remember and recall
all the different teams and an individual. We're going to get to some of
those rankings in a minute. Ialso want to talk UH coaches a little

(26:49):
bit. I think Mikaela took overat ay Dina in nineteen fifty eight,
Does that sound right? Yeah,it sounds good to be thirty two consecutive
winning seasons, eighth state titles, had a ridiculous run. When I say
his name, what comes into yourhead? Oh, that's Fedora. No

(27:12):
way he handled himself, No theindividual himself, the way he handled the
team. He was, he was, he might be. And this is
going away, but John Wooden typewhere you just look at the guy,
you respect, the guy, youknow of him, but don't know him
until you slave for him or something, and then then his thoughts and philosophy.

(27:34):
So he's just a wonderful human being. And I oddly enough that that's
during the peer when I finished playingat the university, and now I'm sitting
out and and I'm looking to buya home, and we have three kids
already three under one, so Igot to get a house, and and
Francy where we're going to go?I said, I got to find someplace

(27:56):
where the kids could skate. Andhe died and was building Bramert. I
said, let's go to that place. He died out there, and you
know, kids can scate up there. And we bought a house and moved
out there, and Willard had mecome out I was there come out to
his practices. There was no indoorring. Then you're practicing outside, and
so I remember thinking about this guycoming here every day outside you know,

(28:18):
cold weather, snow, and yougot the fedora on and just handling practice.
He was very impressive, and Iliked the kind of respect he had
from his players and actually basically demandedit. But they would respect him the
way he handle himself and the wayhe conducted himself overall as a coach.
He was he hard ass guy. What was his heart? But he was

(28:42):
say, a guy that can makea statement that got through to you,
so you understand without him going nuts. He didn't never nuts that I ever
saw, but his words were piercing. Do you know? Do does anybody
know the story about when he establishedthat trademark fedora? Was that like from
is this as early as you canremember? Did that become a thing with

(29:03):
him later? Or you know?I start thinking for a while, maybe
something from everlyp because Mary Ucci alwaysat the fedora and Willard's from everlyth and
then he taught maybe John had eventhough Willard played in Michigan, you know,
maybe I should have a fedora, and just because John was coaching at
the youth then and he always havethe fedora. Maybe Willard took that.
You know something he should do bratShawn Brian Kafan text line six four six

(29:26):
eighty six Louis for the rest ofthe program. Sixtieth run is the radio
TV voice analyst voice of the MinnesotaState High School Hockey Tournament, the tournament
of course this week as well.Uh Texter from this is from well,
there's no name here, we'll justgo with nine to five to two.
Guy, Well, you asked Louisabout Saint Paul Johnson's goalie Doug Long and

(29:52):
his lucky hat making those record say, yeah, he had a lot of
states. I didn't. I don'trecall the hat, but I recall her
Doug making those says and playing forSaint Paul Johnson. He was He was
terrific in that tournament. He hejust seemed like he could stop everything,
and he did. He's got anumber of memories he wants to ask you
about, so we'll try some maybequicker to your mind than others. Minneapolis

(30:15):
Southwest beating DNA in the championship game. Do you remember that? Yeah?
I think it was one nothing tooI can't remember, is that right?
Yeah? I think it was. There was a heck of a game,
and Dave Peterson was cooteen Southwest andDave did a real good job and he
he was a goaltender himself. Ithink Sheelstead was in the net for uh
for Southwest if you look it up. But two good teams in a great

(30:41):
game. We've talked about this gamebefore, but I would be remissive we
don't address it again on this occasion. The five OT semifinal Apple Valley Delite
Duluth East game the semifinal in nineteenninety six. Do you remember what time
you got home? I think Igot home about I want to say twenty

(31:02):
after one or something like that.I know because at the end of the
four rounds guys are thinking, oh, you know, I hope it's a
good goal after all this, youkid, I don't care if they throw
it in, kick it in whateverway they can get it in. I
want to go to sleep. Andit was amazing to me because that was
that game was unbelievable, and thereason why it was so unbelievable because it

(31:23):
went to five overtimes, that notbeing the reason why it's unbelievable because in
five overtimes, I've never seen suchpoor defense in my life. In overtime
games, each of those clubs gotunbelievable opportunities. I know, Gearying I
think had sixty seven saves and I'dget sixty five, very close tournament record.

(31:44):
Yeah, And I'm up there thinkinghow could this be? How can
they not score? Basically they're gettingbreakaways here and they couldn't score, and
I was wondering, We're going tobe here forever, you know. It
was. It was just tremendous. And I thought there was a goal,
not a goal didn't count a goal, but a shot by Duluth. I

(32:04):
think it was in the fourth overtimethat from my angle, I thought it
went in. I we didn't haveinstant replay. Then I still think it
went in, but didn't. Yeah. But the interesting part was Apple Valley
and Larry Hendrickson pat Western were coachinghim, and I was so surprised that
the next day they got him readyand they played an outstanding game to win
the state championship after essentially, youknow, playing an extra game in that

(32:30):
timeframe, and that team played reallywell. Eric Western was on the team.
He was really good player. Bythe way, I think you got
home later and you remember because thegame didn't end until one thirty nine.
A. M okay, that's whyit is in my head. Yeah,
yeah, that's probably why. Andthen they got home quarter after two two
thirty. Yeah the uh so ninetythree minutes and twelve seconds Dwyer's slap shot

(32:52):
give the Eagles a five to fourvictory at the Saint Paul. You know
that that led to a rule change, and which is a good one.
I think they can only go somany overtime fown, You've got to come
back and play the next morning. That's right. You like that was a
good move, A great move.Yeah, really a good move. Let's
do this. Let's get a pausein, we'll take some more texts and

(33:14):
we'll get into some more state highschool hockey tournament history. Maybe even a
couple thoughts about what he might expectthis week as well. Luigi Afan the
fan guards you with you here andI will be at Hilltop campber and RV
this Saturday in Bridley from nine amto eleven am. You can stop by,
check out all the great offers andload up on campe and stuff.

(33:34):
Head over to campen dot com keywordcalendar for more info. Hey, that's
it look good the delt with Eastarea. Now let's go over to our
interview area at Lunani with me fortheir first state tournament entry. Brother Francis,
who is the athletic director and assistantprinciple at Hill Mary Brother, how
are you enjoying your first participation here? Well, i'd be lying if I

(33:55):
didn't say I was excited. Youknow, there have been some charges of
recruiting place against you people. Ifyou people weren't involved, he said,
some of these players would have beenat some other schools. What have you
got to see? There are acouple of our kids whose brothers may have
gone to another school. But inthe past, we've had people at our
school who transferred to one of thepublic schools in our area too. And

(34:16):
I guess I feel bad more thanangry about the charges against us. I
think a lot of people misunderstand LeagueNone. We're very proud to be part
of the league and we're going tokeep the rules and letter as well as
in spirit. And I just wishthat if people wanted to check our books
to see that that we're not recruitingand paying kids to come to our school.

(34:37):
It just isn't true. You've gotsome real fine hockey players out there,
and there are proud bunch. They'rereally pleased to be here. And
we brought them back to school thismorning for a PEP rally and we can't
imagine the excitement in the auditorium whenthey walked in. Well, brother,
it's nice having you people in thetournament that there's good to erase forever the
adults of who is the best teamin the state. And I'm sure you've

(34:59):
got a worthy representative, brother,Frank thing. Now back to Joe Boyd.
How about lou Nanny bringing the heatin nineteen seventy five, Mike Wallace
like, well, did you havethe hot light on him? Unbelievable to
see father. What about what aboutyou cheating to get players? That was
good? I remember I was wonderingthat guy's name was he's He was sure

(35:22):
he was Balding? Yep, Butis that right? Yeah? Yeah,
I think he was. Yeah,And uh yeah, was he mad after
the interview? Oh no, hewas good. Yeah, that's a fair
question. You were about the wholetime, Luig, I was, yeah,
I'll send it out on Twitter,This smiling assassin and an unbelievable leisure
suit. Nicetis, Yeah, that'sbrilliant. Oh that's so good. That

(35:45):
is so good. Very good soundbitesthat Guardsy has come up with here.
As we continue our trip down memorylane the State high school Hockey Tournament sixty
years with Louis on Play on Coloranalysis as as well, you mentioned the
the time you sat down with someother big shots to attempt the impossible job

(36:07):
of ranking the top one hundred playersin Minnesota state high school hockey history.
Do you remember who you guys finishedranked number one? I assume you No,
you do not know? They probablymas It's probably was number one.
Neil Broughton. Yeah, I wasbig of than Neil number two. Would

(36:29):
you have had Neil number one?No? I didn't see message play,
so you know, yeah, you'reworking down here. Sure, sure,
I just put him number one.His records were there, and I just
got to go by what everybody elsesaid. And I'm sure John, you
know, dominated then like he woulddominate later on. He was a fabulous

(36:49):
player, So they won state titlesall four years he was there. Yeah,
forty eight fifty one, that's nota bad run. Obviously with that
just a big run and the guyslike Will and then match they had a
tremendous run. Then after that InternationalFalls and that's when I started doing International
Falls had a heck of a run. And that's when Tim Sheey was there,
and he was a tremendous player.I had came up there pretty high,

(37:12):
and you know, there had beenDyne had to run, Jefferson had
to run, Hill Murray played reallywell for a while. There's been grind
Rapids had some real good teams andHibbing and when Joe mcletty was there,
the team was good. You knowGreenway, when Antonovich was there, it's

(37:34):
terrific. Dluth had some good teams. Randolphs had, you know, a
lot of good teams. It's it'sbeen interesting because it moves around. So
I'm looking at this list and I'mlooking for goalies, and in the top
ten there's only one goalie. Correct. Do you remember that? No?
I can't remember those names, youknow that we finished up with, because

(37:59):
I just you know, I putin what the goaltender. Yeah, he's
the only goalie in the top ten. It's interesting because I'm going down this
sea again. I didn't I didn'tsee. I sure guys did so I
don't know if I could have puthim in the top ten. The other
kid that I would have put upthere as a kid from Centennial, they
got the three shutout huh yeah, and nobody else did that, and so

(38:22):
I had him up there and uh. In the top thirty six, there
are only two goaltenders. I mentionedIkla at number seven overall and at number
twenty six form Minneapol Southwest Brad Shelston. In nineteen seventy. It was the

(38:42):
only goalies in the top thirty, which is Serge actually top well at the
top thirty six. John Casey isnumber thirty seven Grand Rapids. He's the
third. Yeah, he played reallygood goalie. That is uh, that
is indeed there. Look, I'mjust kind of looking through this list for
some names that are standing out tome. Tj Oshi war Road in five

(39:05):
is ranked forty second. And asyou say, rankings are kind of silly,
yep, But it's fun, right, and I think that's the whole
reason you do it. It getspeople debating talking about names, thinking about
names do you dare to try toname? In the time you've been covering
the tournament? The greatest single teamthat you ever saw. No, I'll

(39:30):
come because you can't. You can'tmatch in my mind teams from a different
air with the other teams. Youknow, they so many things have changed,
the length to the periods, thesides of the players, the equipment,
there are so many different things thatare involved. There's been great guys

(39:51):
in all the periods. But tosay that the team from the sixties would
be the team from the nineties,I don't think so. Because in the
sixties you had like five good playersin the team. Right nineties you have
twelve good players in the team.Is that the biggest difference. Yes,
the talent has been the depth oftalent. Depth of talent is just unbelievable.

(40:14):
And they're bigger, stronger, andfaster. Like in every sport,
athletes get bigger, stronger, andfaster. And so you're looking at teams
now with three lines for sure, maybe four, and they're big and or
strong, and they're fast, andthey're talented. Kids do things now that
you never dreamed of doing back inthe sixties and seventies, even the eighties.

(40:34):
You know, they're good kids inand not to say that they wouldn't
have been able to do these thingsnow with the same kind of training,
the same kind of you know, equipment, et cetera. So it's tough
to in my mind to really say, well, that team's better than this
ing. You know, the yearof your first tournament sixty four, So
it was sixty four. Yeah,So at the time, did it feel

(41:00):
anywhere near as big as it hascome to feel. No? No,
because first of all, the buildingwas smaller. The pomp and circumstance was
there, but not to the degreeit is now. The number of teams
playing hockey then probably I would saywe've got over sixty at least now,

(41:23):
I mean one hundred and sixty.I would say maybe they might have had
forty. You didn't have many teamsin the Twin City area at that time
closed rinks. You probably had SouthSaint Paul, North Saint Paul Hill,
Murrae, Dyna. I'm talking aboutwhere they had rinks and that, and

(41:43):
so you had very few indoor rinks. So it's a big change, big
change. Top five on this rankingsmassig one brought into Phil Howsley South Saint
Paul three, Tim Sheehy International Fallsfrom the mid sixties graduated in sixty six
four they won three titles, andBouchet war Road was fifth. He of

(42:09):
course graduated in nineteen sixty nine. And then I'm looking at who were talking
about earlier. We were talking aboutwho got the three hat tricks? Yes,

(42:30):
Bihar, I'm looking for spie Har. How far down do I have
to go to find him? Igotta by the way Chorski nineteen. These
are just names that are hitting me. Corey Millen cloqu was twenty is ranked
twenty three. See where's mcdonoughh ranked? He put in one of the greatest

(42:52):
performances I've ever seen. Paul Martinanother guy pulled in a great performance.
Oh Rau put on a great performance. Paul Martin's thirty ranked thirtieth. Here
Doug Woo thirty eighth, right behindJohn Casey. How about Ryan McDonough.
I'm still looking and I don't seehim. Joe mcalletty is at forty six,

(43:15):
Nick Letty forty eight. On names, I recognize Tommy Kerber's fifty four,
Mark Pavlick fifty six, Mark Parrishfifty seven. I don't McDonough's sixty
five ranked sixty five. He belongssay about forty five up. I mean
I'm talking about you see what happensis Uh, people vote on on how

(43:42):
the guys performed afterwards, did theyYeah, which they should know. I'm
talking about how they played in thetournament. Yeah, I've gone that dominated,
like you can't believe. So didPaul Martin. So did Matt Hendricks
from Blaine. I mean I rememberthese kids because I went right down to
the locker room to the game, and that's the coach. Where's he going
to school? You know? Wegot to get him over in Minnesota.

(44:04):
Yeah, I mean that's I rememberthese things because of how dominant they were.
It's just amazing to me how many, how much illegal recruiting on behalf
of the University of Minnesota. Didyou do what you were doing? I'm
sure because I don't think anything canbe done. I think the statute of
limitation is probably run out. Yeah. Now, And it wasn't really illegal
recruiting. I was just telling themabout the benefits of being close to playing

(44:25):
here in front of them, andnow you it's almost like you owe to
the state to keep that talent thatyou have here. By the way,
I don't know if I've ever askedyou this question before. So nobody looms
over the sports scene anymore than Sidobviously all these decades, How was how

(44:46):
committed to the bit the state highschool hockey tournament was Sid? Because I
don't think people generally associate him asmuch with that sport and and high school
hockey compared to a lot of otheralmost everything else. What do you remember,
I remember that, No, hewasn't as committed till he found out.
I used to host those dinners atMancini on Saturday night after the final

(45:08):
game for the Crew, and thenhe started coming to the loved and then
oh, I can remember when hefinally came and uh and he and Norman
norm Coman was mayor of Saint Paulat the time, and and that's when
they were building the new ring andI Norman, I got him going.
I told Normals get him going. With having the Timberwolves going to move over

(45:29):
to the X. I thought simcould have had tim tim Sid could have
had a heart attack right there. He was just going nuts. By the
way, do you remember who wasranked number one hundred no on this list
of top one hundred no Herb Brooks, Saint Paul Johnson, Harry Brooks why

(45:49):
didn't see herby playing the tournament?Yeah, which was uh interesting as well.
So unfortunately you gotta go yeah, right, that's the bad news.
Yeah, do we have more soundto try to squeeze in or do I
cheat a little bit? Given thathe had another commitment which I did not
know about. So unfortunate because theoriginal plan was I hope was to go

(46:12):
to six thirty. But that's justnot going to work because he's got to
He's in demand this week, probablymore than you've ever been. Is that
fair? I say, it's absurd. You're You're going left right all over
the place. Everybody wants a pieceof lute Anni this week. Well,
I did want to play a spihard goal, but you talked about that
and mostly I wanted to play itbecause our guy Mark Parrish whiffed on a
little drop pass and then it endedup into luty So the Power Trip will

(46:32):
play that. But I think thisis a nice send off the Beyond the
Pond crew Fallness and Mikoletti had KurtGiles on this week and obviously to talk
about you know, the Hornets areback into the tournament. I love this
now it's saying that they can't openthe media file because this is a perfect
way to send it off. That'sunfortunately. Nope, hang on, I'm
gonna get it. You can getit done. I'm going to download it

(46:52):
here, okay. And so theyasked him about Louis, and obviously Giles
is back in the state tournament. He played for lou the whole bit.
Here's what Kurt had to say aboutLuigi. Louis is the biggest proponent I've
ever seen of Minnesota hockey, andhe absolutely has a passion for it.
And the thing is, you guysknow Louis. When he has a passion
for something, there's nothing that getsin his way. No, no,

(47:13):
not even kind of. I meanhe didn't need to slow it down.
I mean you take a look athim today and his schedule today and what
he does and what he's done forMinnesota hockey and what he's done for our
city is it's just phenomenal. AndI can't say enough good things about Louis
there. It is. It's verynice to correct mind, you don't mind
hearing that, you know, that'svery nice. So as you prepare for

(47:37):
number sixty and this just being thelast knowing you a little bit, I
assume you just it's not like you'regoing to do it any different than you
ever did, right. The ideais you just go about your business.
You you soak it in, youanalyze, you enjoy the hell out of
it. You revel in the wholedeal, and you don't try to overthink

(47:58):
it or overdo it just because thisis the last correct No, you know,
it's I can't do anything different becauseit would be hard for me to
do because I wouldn't know how todo it. I'm just gonna see what
talk about what I see, andthat's it. It's the easiest way to
do it and the best way.And I can't build up something and it's

(48:19):
not gonna be any different any othertime. Hard to believe, though,
isn't it. Yeah, you gotto look back on and say, well,
that's what's hard to believe. Sixtyyears. I mean, I can't
envision time going by that quickly. It's just mind bugging. I can.
I can picture myself walking too theWTC and station, meeting with the sports

(48:40):
director and him telling me to godown and meet melt Jass and get some
tips about televising. I can stillsee that day in the station. That's
I can still picture Frank b Tellwhen I went up there broadcast you could
smoke in the buildings. Then hegot ashes about three inches long, hanging
out of a cigarette, broadcasting thegame, you know, and I'm looking

(49:00):
at him. Geez doesn't even talk, you know. It's just the memories.
Memories are precious. I'm not readyfor it, Louis to end.
I'm ridiculously emotional about this. Well, I wish forgive me you five more.
No, I ain't gonna happen. No, I respect that this is

(49:22):
I'll go along with what you wantto do. You've earned that, you've
earned the right to do it andend it the way you want to do
it, on your terms. Andit's not like you're going to stop paying
attention to it or obviously being aroundit, or whatever the case may be.
But I know you enough to knowthat. Like you say, when
you make this call, I say, okay, I've had it's time for

(49:42):
somebody else to give it a shot. Yeah, I really believe that.
I just I'm very comfortable in myfeeling that this is it, this should
be it. That's fine, andI haven't had any second thoughts about it.
I I you know when I firsttold you got to think about it.
I've been thinking about it, andthey said, well, thinking about

(50:02):
a little longer. And then Icall them back and this is no memory.
I call him back January. No, this is it. This is
it, and nothing's changed. Ifeel the way I feel, and I'm
happy about it because when I feelthat way, then I know I'm making
the right decision. There's no secondguess in it. There's no reason for
me to think otherwise. And soI'm happy about having that frame of mind

(50:25):
about a decision I make. AndI think the best thing you could do
is like they say, when yougo on the test, you know you're
not sure the first thing you thinkof would go with that one, because
usually it's a better choice. Andthat's why I feel about the decisions I
make. When I make that decision, I make it and I don't look

(50:45):
back and I don't second guess myself. And I've done that. You know,
I haven't moved around a lot inmy life. That's my jobs.
You know. I was in theNorth Starts twenty three years. I've been
with RBC Global Asset Management thirty fouryears. I've been in that money management
business. I've been here over twentyfive years with you guys. I don't
make I don't change. I'm notcomfortable with change. I really That's why

(51:10):
I put such a premium on seeingkids played Minnesota in that because to me,
it's almost a little bit of loyaltyto the state and to the university
there that you had the good fortuneof growing up watching that and maybe learning
from it, and maybe you couldpass that on to people after you.
So maybe that's why I'm so committedto that kind of stuff, because I

(51:31):
like, loyalty is a big thingfor me. You know why I think
it's all so easy for you,is you in no way cheated yourself.
There's not liking go God, Ididn't get it. You know I could
have gotten, you know, twentytwo percent more out of it. You
have not cheated yourself it, particularlyas it pertains to this relationship in any

(51:51):
way, shape or form. Rightyou have you have soaked in and gotten
everything that you could have out ofit. Yeah, yeah, And and
I really feel good about that, you know, you know, you know
what the funny thing you're talking abouteighty six and when the tall in eighty
six to ninety the north Stars weren'tvery good. They paid more for the

(52:14):
state high school rights than they paidus in the North Stars for the season.
And I got to tell you,and because of that, I made
my pay during the state tournament inninety okay, this is thirty four years
ago, was double what I maketoday. And I've been doing it for
lood less than So it's not formoney, because I you know, and

(52:37):
if you went for yeah, thosedays dollars to today, it's like quadruple
or sure. So you do somethingyou'd like to do, and the real
joy of it is is the factthat you are You love what you do,
and it's not because of money, and it's not because of anything other

(52:57):
than the pure fact of having theup tunery to enjoy yourself when you're doing
something. And hopefully my main thingis that I bring as much enjoyment to
the listener as I feel i'm gettingmyself. Thank you, my friend,
thank you awesome hour. And andwell we will chat by fon or from

(53:17):
down we say later in the weekas well. We'll get a chance to
talk about this tournament this year.Today, I don't think that was as
important as the sixty years. Goodwell, appreciate it. Thanks for all
you doing. Thank you, Louis, look forward to tarking. Appreciate you,
man, Thank you. We'll pause. Good. Six one Texture asks

(53:51):
where can we find these player rankings? I found them at Oh my goodness,
I gotta find the s site.I thought I had it in the
printout, but it did not printout properly. Because it is interesting to
look at, you know what I'msaying, Just the names and all the

(54:14):
people that have run through this tournament. Yeah, exactly. I found it
at vintage m N Hockey dot sport, NNGI N dot com. Very unusual
website. What's the title of thearticle of the story, one hundred greatest

(54:35):
MSHSL player. Google that and you'llfind it. That'll probably be the easier
way to do it than getting tothe website. Uh six one two guy
rights. I'm turning sixty this year. Louis has been with me every step
along the way. I predict thatthere will be the mother of all blizzards

(54:57):
for next year's hockey tournament, inhonor of Louise's watching from Florida. That
would be apropos. Well, it'llbe something that we'd have a throwback,
ye blizzard because I'm I'm you know, based on the experience this year,
that cliche about wealth. It's date, tournament time, basketball or hockey.
One more blizzard coming in. Idon't even know if we can count on

(55:21):
that anymore? Can we? Nothingis certain when it comes to our weather.
No, at this point for forsure. Uh. This is David
from Lauderdale. You guys are sofunny. Tell Louie thanks, I am
in tears. Yeah, yeah,it was. It was a very good
hour. Good job on the soundbites too, that that enriched the the
whole deal as well. Guards hewhat did you find out about the bumper

(55:45):
music you're listening today? You'll Ithink, no, it's it's I'm still
suspicious, But uncannily, on theday I bring up the subject, suddenly
we're after experimenting with the possibility ofusing the classic the regular bumper music,

(56:06):
we're back to allegedly nobody's using theregular bumper music. I don't want to
find out because if I if it'snot true, then I'll be It doesn't
take much to get me bitter. This is the song Louis listened to on
the way to the Civic Center andthe Ler leisure suit interview with the huge

(56:28):
collar, getting ready for Father Francisto pop him along with it, get
him on the illegal recruiting allegations sixone two. Guy, I want to
know. I've been I've been readingyou and listen to you for years and
this really moved me. Thank you. I will feel the same when you
retire. I appreciate that. Uhtwenty five to match Louis. That's the
thing which isn't impossible. It's probablyis, but yeah we are. Times

(56:53):
with Luigi are, of course, rather unforgettable to me. It is falling
asleep at some point during the secondFriday semi fining up, waking up and
Luigi going, just another great game. Yeah, these guys, these teams
like that's like what happened the lastcouple of years. And I've told the
story on air before and Louis knowsit. But you know, in my

(57:15):
all my buddies made the state tournamentin two thousand and won in overtime against
Hill Murray in the first round.Just we had to watch it because we
had a basketball game that night,so we didn't go down. It was
at Target Center because they were buildingthe X. You know, when I
was in high school and unknowingly heprovided a lifelong roast of one of our
best friends, the guy you know, Johnny Ryman, very well because he
had a very tough first period.Did Johnny had a couple of great A

(57:37):
scoring chances and Louis noticed it thathe didn't finish either one of them.
And I gotta find the VHS somewhere, because he said something like, it's
been a tough you know, ifI'm Johnny Ryman, I'm sick right now
because I've had all these great opportunitiesand he couldn't. He couldn't. We
still, I mean it's twenty fouryears later and that'll still come up like
two times a year. How Luigijust roasted our guy. It's the best,

(57:59):
It's the best. What it's interestingto hear him say that he had,
you know, one regret when wewent to the Tier one tier two
thing, and that didn't that lastI think two years and was not very
successful, and he was not verypleased with it. And he had he
basically offered what he suggested was thewas the only cheap shot that he ever
offered as an analyst when it comesto the high school hockey. Yeah,

(58:21):
and so it's still it's funny.I mean, it's still what's interesting is
it's it was still bugging him enoughto talk about it. What this many
years later because Tier two was ninetytwo, I went to the Tier two
tournament because my babysitter's brother was onone of the teams. I remember vividly
Minneapolis Roosevelt against the Rosemont Irish, who I think either won the title that

(58:44):
year or Loston Greenway, one ofthe two. I remember it very,
very vividly, getting pulled out ofschool and going to watch. We need
to get one more break in,do we not? Yes, and then
we'll come back with any If there'sany new Kirk Cousins steam, we will
attempt to finish the show with it. Spend a lot of time on this
subject early as well, and we'llfind out if we've yet uncovered the the

(59:07):
rest of the Anthony Fnan I'm talkinga lot about the tournament. You can
head over to cavan dot com keywordcontest enter for your chance to win a
pair of tickets to be there whenthe ms MSHSL. I'm just gonna say
Boys Hockey Tournament hits the Ice Marchsixth through the ninth at the X and
don't forget you can watch all theaction on forty five TV. Forty five

(59:28):
TVs, the official home of theMSHSL Tournaments. The show Rap brought to
you by American Pressure Commercial grade PressureWashers since nineteen seventy five. It's the
Bumper to Bumper Show Rap. Dowe have any more juicy Kirk Cousins speculation
of beyond what we started the showwith, beyond what we had heard earlier

(59:52):
in the day betting money? Officially, I don't know is on Kirk Cousins
ending up in Atlanta? That's official. The DraftKings sports book has shifted the
lines and we put the defcon numberat at one, which means panic,
which means well for some, maybenot so much. Maybe they don't mind

(01:00:16):
the cocked pistol because they'd say,it's time, this will, this should
make it easy. Let's move onwith the rest of our lives. Let's
lance the boil, use whatever clichethat you want, Trey Lance the boil.
I hadn't thought of it. That'swhat one of us, Hollywood actor
guy texted me yesterday. Nice lancedthe boy played, but nothing is as

(01:00:39):
far as we know, even interms of speculation changed since the start of
the show. Not really. He'sstill trending on Twitter, but a lot,
but a lot of that is justthe things that are. I mean
Floria today basically saying his wife seemedannoyed at the super Bowl is what's getting
a lot of the play today,a lot of the right. Sure,
that's happy, yeah, but that'salso some interpreting yes, that he's doing

(01:01:01):
there because he's laid down the gauntlet. Man, he is staked. The
position that is the Kirk Cousin's erais about to end. Guy. Although
I don't always agree with you,I respect the decision you may make make
to bring an issue up. Iam seventy two years old and I am
in failing health. Please do notretire until I pass two. Guy,

(01:01:24):
don't pass Yeah, come on,hang in, don't do the best you
can, plan your work and workyour plan. But I don't want to
hear anything about passing. I appreciatethe kind words I really do, and
the fact that you listen, andI hope nothing but the best. I

(01:01:44):
hope you can keep that health youknow at Bay as much as you can.
Things change, It gets more challenging, it gets more difficult, So
best of luck there, but Idon't want to hear anything about passing at
this particular point. For sure, eight hour with Louis. It'll be podcastable
later on tonight after this show isdone, And if you're interested in Kirk

(01:02:07):
Cousins speculation, plenty of it early. And then we had about a half
hour where we attempted to unravel thisweird Anthony Edwards mystery that for us,
for me at least, goes beyondnot being there for the opening tip yesterday.
This curious habit he has to notparticipate in the pregame introductions, which

(01:02:29):
I had either forgotten about or wasnot particularly aware of. But I think
it's ridiculous, quite frankly, andI don't think it's finable. And obviously
the Wolves have already made their beton this one, and now maybe they
don't know what to do about it, but it doesn't. It's just it's
strange to me, yes, thatno other player has had the difficulty to

(01:02:52):
make this much of a commitment tothe bit, especially now in a time
where the pregame deduction stuff. Youknow me, I'm bored with that stuff.
But I've been convinced that a bunchof people, aren't. I love
it and you do it and ifyou're gonna do it, he can't be
the he can't find the time.Oys in prep mode. Oh, he's

(01:03:14):
got so many things to think about. Come on, man, get over
yourself a little bit. If MichaelJordan can do it, if Lebron can
do it. So yeah, what'stomorrow? Wednesday? Kessler will join and
in studio and Kevin Siefert in studiotomorrow. Yes, sir, there'll be
a plenty more Kirk Cousins, SlashVikings Steam as well. Brian Billick on
Thursday for his thoughts. Nice,Yeah, he will be on Thursday.

(01:03:37):
Russo on Thursday, fan and theMan in the Air is next, you
got it? And then what we'stonight and Patrick tonight and Patrick tonight sportsless
night in the Twin Cities here.Thank you for listening, thanks for paying
attention, and we'll talk to youtomorrow beginning at three o'clock right here in
the fans A lot of things. They are easily credible, busy thing whenever

(01:04:01):
you need me. Violence is outof the question. Your
