Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is your is the pressure really off? Leader fan
Fan Radio Network and k FA and dot com. Two
minutes and twenty five seconds past three o'clock Central Standard time.
It is the Friday Football Beast edition of the Afternoon
(00:24):
Ardvark on a decidedly snowy Friday afternoon here in the
Twin Cities of Minneapolis, and Saint Paul Guardsey produces the program.
My name is Dan Barrero, I'm the host of the show,
and we are done at six fifteen today. I'm guessing no,
this is a full bow show six thirty, okay, going
on all the way to six thirty this afternoon.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
We had had rumors.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
To the effect that Sewn Salisby might join, but he
has not gotten back to Guardsy, so we may be
Slisbury less after all. If we get him, we'll add him.
But for right now, the Beast will include scheduled visits
with Carl Gerbschmid at three thirty, Ben Gestling at four thirty,
and Level at five thirty. That's sort of the usual
(01:08):
lineup that we go with on on Friday. So if
Shawnee calls in, God bless him and be all the better,
and we'll be glad to include him, that's for sure.
Bratche On Brian kfan text line, I'll be rebooting in
a section a second second as soon as I'm able
to find my verification code because security here is very,
very very tight at the branch on Brian kfan text line.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
You have to have integrity.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I must see what.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
It is well.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
But I think we have more integrity than some of
the listeners because I don't think any integrity is needed there.
Just just you pop off whatever you want to say,
whatever you want, and you don't even have you don't
even have to bother to identify yourself or verify who
you are.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Correct. That's I guess the beauty of it, depending on
how you want to look at it.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, and then we have the ability to block those people.
We at least their yeah, that's that's true. We at
least get their phone number. And we've done some due
diligence on a few of you. I may have to
apologize for something I said on the Enough Said TV
taping the Fox nine program that you and I and
Lori Fisher do on every Friday and tonight they tell
me it'll be on the Plus at seven thirty usual
(02:13):
time and on Fox nine at ten thirty.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yes, after the news, after sports football.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
As soon as football, And one of the things I
mentioned regarding the condition of the delicate condition of the
Vikings was that, in a sense, you could say, now
that you're kind of pretty much out of the playoff race,
all the pressure is off and you can just concentrate
on letting JJ McCarthy get through it, try to figure
(02:40):
it out, enjoy the thrill of victory and the agony
of defeat, but try to get carve out a few
more ws within the game, even if the final.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Score ends up being an L.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I may have misspoke, or maybe I oversimplified it, because
as I was reminded by several of the football wonks
the last two days, I'm sure Ben Gesling knows this
as well. Our next three games are against which teams?
The Washington Commanders Yep, that's Sunday high noon right here
(03:14):
on the fan.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
We follow that with is it New York Dallas? Next
to the New York Next it's at Dallas at Dallas,
And then I think our next game is New York Giants.
Isn't it at New York?
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Okay, those are our next three opponents and has the
Dallas game been deflexed by the way now because it's
supposed to be a night game, it will?
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Is that true?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
It's supposed to be Sunday night football. Dallas is Dallas, man. Yeah,
you know how that goes. They always get a huge rating.
So I bet you it won't be deflexed no matter
what our condition is or who we have at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
But here's the reality.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
I'm looking at the defensive stats, team stats, National Football League.
I'm looking at particularly. The only one that really matters
to me is points per game. The Cincinnati Bengals, the
only team we beat at home this year, ranked dead last,
allowing thirty one point two points a game. That's a
lot of points, isn't it. Second to last points allowed
(04:09):
per game at twenty nine point seven, the Dallas Cowboys,
third to last points per game, New York Giants twenty
eight point two, and fifth to last at twenty six
point nine. Sunday's opponent the Washington Commanders. So the problem
(04:29):
here for the kid looking to be everybody's just sown.
Just relax and play, kid, Just.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Go, just go play. You're in the backyard, just fling it.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
You know.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
The old Bill Cosby skit on. You just go long
and I'll just throw it to you. Well, that's kind
of what we're now saying. But that's the rub. If
he's not able to get something done against three of
the five worst defenses in the National Football League, where
(04:59):
are we then? So I actually think even if no
one's expecting the Vikings to win anymore, no one's expecting
them to make the postseason, you can't argue that the
pressure ain't off at all with JJ McCarthy. Now, he
was good to be judged on who you know, his
performance the rest of your regardless, but when you factor
in what looks to be three very inviting opportunities to
(05:23):
get on the board, no to just sort of get
serviceable at least or respectable at least, if not now win,
that's it. If he doesn't do it now, that in
of itself, I would think might be very concerning to
koc the quarterback Whisperer and everybody else related to TCO
Performance Center, don't you think?
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I do, But now I wish you hadn't told me
all that because I was going in, like JJ, with
a clear mind. I was going into this game without
a lot of clutter. I was going into this game
with the just let it rip, let's just see how
you play, low expectations. But now that I know that,
I feel like it's going to cloud. Now now I'm like,
(06:05):
he better play well or I'm really going to panic
if he doesn't. I wish you hadn't have told me
all of this well.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
I wish I hadn't learned it. I hadn't been paying
that close. Ignorance is blissed.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Ignorance in this case might have been blissed. And maybe
they're hiding all the stat team stats from the kid
from nine. Maybe they're saying, don't don't let him see
like es. Don't block ESPN from his phone, from his
computer so he can't get It's real easy to do.
I would say, two clicks and you got it. Don't
worry about blocking it from nine. I would block it
from eighteen. Justin Jefferson. I would block it from him
(06:38):
so he doesn't know. Because if he's out there running
all his routes, that's true, knowing how bad these defenses
are and he's getting four targets, that's not good. I
would not be I feel good about Yeah, that's not
going to be good at all.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
WHOA, that's that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
So that I think is going to be part of
the way he's he's measured. Now again, I don't know
that all three of these defenses are at their worst
right now. Those are statistics, you know, assembled over the
course of an entire year. By the way, for the record,
you cared, do you want to take an educated guess
(07:15):
on the team with the best defense in football in
terms of points game per game allowed?
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Oh man, I don't know. I'm so bad. When did
you do this to me?
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Well, no, I'm not trying to put you on the spot.
I thought maybe there was a couple you might have
thought of. Houston Texans Shawn Salisbury's Houston never would have
gotten are absurd right now. In fact, I think they
played Kansas City this week and a lot of people
I think Houston might pitch a shut up.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
That's a big time defense.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
At second place, the La Rams seventeen to five, third,
Seattle eighteen to one. I would have led with the
Browns because that's what it was two months to two
months ago. Yeah, they've they've fallen to the mid to
the middle. But again you look at well, let's see
is it a coincidence. Houston's won Rams, two, Seahawks three,
(08:03):
Denver forod New England, five, Green Bay, Kansas City, San Francisco,
Indianapolis and the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
What do all those teams have in common? Pretty damn
good records.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Sleep correct, Yeah, decent quarterbacks, it's extremely good. Now where
are we We're in the middle. We're a full touchdown
behind the Houston Texans. We're averaging giving up twenty three
point four points a ball game, which, as I look
at it looks to me like it's maybe just a
little bit below the midpoint in the National Football League.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
What's interesting about this.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Too is the Bears, who are at eight and three,
I think going into the big showdown game in Green
Bay against the Packers. They're giving up twenty five points
six points a game, so they're in the bottom third
and yet have somehow been able to survive that in
part because they're offense has been very productive.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
That's a big part of the deal.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
So now, yeah, I mean, they're just they're just gonna
have to make sure that or you just lie to
JJ and say, these are three pretty formidable defenses, you know,
so don't But just so we're not expecting a lot
of right, just lower his you know, lower you expect
your expectations. So he's not, you know, getting worked up
(09:25):
about Oh my god, if I don't do something this
weekend against the commanders or then the next two at
least the home ones, right, then that I then where
are where am I?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
So we'll take that under advice. I do you mean
to do that?
Speaker 1 (09:39):
I know, I'm just wondering how we got here in
Vikings quarterback in the blink of an eye, it does
feel that quick. Well, I want to run another theory
by you that I heard earlier today.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
That is fascinating.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
You know, a lot of people we commented yesterday on
some of the things that Koc said, I believe to
days ago.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
And then and then JJ spoke to the reporters yesterday
he had a great week of practice. By the way,
according to Kosi.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Well never dropped the ground, hit the grounds, and I
was never touch the guy.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
You didn't even need to clear the snow.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
And and by the way, Brozmer, being the pro he is,
went right back bounce back to being the scout quarterback. No, no,
I guess no, he's not. He wouldn't be the scout
quarterback because he's not number three, is he has he
been designated still his number two? That's been establish who
has been guessling in four thirty For the record, where
was I on that? And I can't even remember? But oh,
we have interpreted. I think you and I have interpreted
(10:33):
the O'Connell comments the same way or similarly, at least
as a number of other people. However, I've heard at
least one Vikings wonk interpret what the head coach said
very differently, and it's worth a minute or two. I
think it's worth conversation because if it's true, I actually
(10:54):
think it's even scarier than our interpretation of what chaos
he said midweek.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
We'll come back.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
We'll mix in text if I ever get there and
get two picks with Gerby at the bottom of the ear.
You're looking to score a pair of tickets to Vikings
commanders this Sunday. Listen for Carl Gerbschmidt's Lock of the
week today, then leave us a talkback using the iHeartRadio
(11:22):
app talkback feature to tell us his lock. Winners will
be emailed by us this afternoon. The Lock of the
Week for Vikings Commander's.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
Tickets McCarthy's seat, Darkness Retreat, Thinly Sliced Deli Meat, Pools,
and five. I wonder how many tweets sewn Salisray gets
asking him to join the show.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
I hope people do. I mean, I'm not saying don't
browbeat them, but just say, hey, Sean, they're missing you
on the bumpered boat.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Yeah, I mean, it wouldn't be the work play to
his ego.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
The show's not the same without them, It's not I
know that well aware of that.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Dan, This is Dave from Des Moines.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Seems to me, if the Vikings had had average quarterback
play this season, I'm guessing we have a shot at
the playoff spot. Even Philly and the Ravens look beatable
only played them. I wasn't. I was not remotely impressed
by the Packers. They're good, but not great. I think
that might have been dictated, but I get his point.
(12:34):
It's a fair question forget good quarterback play. If the
Vikings had received anything close to average quarterback play, I.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Think it's well that two victories.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Is that.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Three more victories.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
If you're two more victories, you're five hundred, and you
see you're really not in the race.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Still right, you're in the hunt. You'd be in the hunt.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
But if you can get you get three out of there,
I guess it's possible. Yeah, questions back, it's been a
big part of it. It's undeniable. I mean, lately, let's
remember our last four games. We've scored nineteen seventeen six
(13:18):
and zero.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
And in.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
If you take the Lions game away, the game before
that we scored ten. You when you score ten nineteen seventeen,
six and zero, we know it's not good baseball.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
You don't have much of a chance. It is true.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
So you say you put more representative numbers there. And
I mean, they weren't going to beat the Chargers, I
don't think.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
But.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Baltimore. Yeah, I didn't think Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
But I thought the first at Baltimore looked like it
was waiting to agree, and then you know, we just
sort of let them take the game over. Bears is
nineteen seventeen. We know how that that finished.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
So is it in the mix?
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (14:01):
That brings us back to the other theory that I've heard.
This was from your guy, Matthew Coller, and he said,
and maybe he's written this too.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
I don't know that he took. He interpreted.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
The commentary from the head coach on Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
More as.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
I've done everything I can do, figure it out, make
some plays. You're not twelve years old. You know you've
been around here long enough now, so I'm not going
to bring up that. Just just go get something done.
I mean, come on, I've done everything that a quarterback
whisperer should do. Now if you buy that interpretation, and
(14:51):
who knows, I mean we're all, you know, kind of
making it up as we go along. But let's say
you buy that interpretation. Isn't that a scary thought if
you're a Vikings fan, because of course.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
That almost seems to say that the guy.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Because what we have to remember is he can say, now, well,
donery thing I could. He's got a god sooner. He's
just he's either he's gonna do it or not gonna
do it. But the problem is this is a guy
you guys selected as the guy, right, So that interpretation
to me, raises even more frightening questions if you want
to believe it. Yeah, that's part of what it is,
(15:28):
because it almost seems to say I've washed my hands
on my feet of JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
No, no, no, No, you're tethered at JJ McCarthy. You picked him.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
He didn't get here by osmosis or by stealing signals. Allegedly,
he got here because you guys thought he was worthy
of the pick.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
I'll be curious what Gesling says about that, because those
guys are around Koc.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
A lot more than us. That's absolutely true.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
But didn't Chaos also this week talk about that he
thinks he did too much earlier in the season. We
had that conversation too, right, that he wasn't Yeah, so
who did too much? That Koc did too much, trying
to put too much into all the quarterbacks. Correct, and
at some point you just have to figure out what
you can do and go to it.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
That would seem to be a contradiction. Yeah, that's where I.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Don't necessarily believe that or buy that interpretation. Anything's possible,
but it would not be U how do we put it.
I mean, it would not be particularly I don't think
any of these ways. It's not particularly encouraging. That part
is for sure. And the word on the street is
Daniels is playing as starting.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Is that correct?
Speaker 1 (16:32):
That's the word on the street, yep. And that's why
the Vikings are underdogs again, so we are once again underdog.
According to DraftKings, we are one and a half point underdogs.
They are three and nine. Correct, we're four and eight?
Are they not three and nine?
Speaker 2 (16:45):
I think that's right. They're playing on the road US
Bank Stadium and we're underdogs. God they have lost one, two, three, four, five,
six games in a row. Daniels missed the last three.
I don't remember how far back.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
It goes still, but nevertheless, the NFL, yeah, it's a
National Football League. So does that mean the oddsmakers don't
trust McCarthy or don't trust O'Connell. Yes, or yes, a
little bit of both. I would say yes. Why are
we discussing the massive rash of Vikings injuries? That's Steve
(17:24):
from Duluth. What am I missing here?
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Don't I don't know? It's football?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Well, we know obviously we have injuries. The left tackle
is Derisaw's listed as question I believe do we have
two offensive linemen both listen is questionable.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Let me pull this game.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
You can pull up the last and we'll get it
all there. Ben just came out with the guestling Darrisaw
and Donovan Jackson are both listed is questionable. Darrisaw was
full today, Donovan Jackson was limited. Okay, so what what other?
What's the massive with what is that?
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Is that a bit? I mean, what do you mean?
Speaker 1 (17:57):
And by the way, again, I have less pace on
the injury thing that I ever did. I mean, if
we went team to team, you would be stunned with
the number of visions I talked about the Bears before.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
I don't know if the Bears are real or not.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
The Bears were missing for most of the season four
of their top six defensive players when you consider when
you factor in the secondary. So again, well, okay, so
we because we live this team's injuries, we get into
this weird vortex where we think, well, this is somehow.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
We're being victimized. Many teams get victimized.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
They don't always get victimized to exactly the same level, obviously,
but there's a lot of that. So I don't know
if there's something else that I'm missing. I think YOUOC
is a graduate level whisperer. Great for those with a degree,
but doesn't work for undergrads. JJ McCarthy, Well, this is
the first people have brought that up. I mean, the
(19:00):
other quarterbacks that he has fixed or at least enhanced
for short periods, all were veteran qbs. That's very true,
guys like Matthew Stafford obviously, cousins Arnold Darnald and if
even for a brief period past or not, you could
say who'd at least been around the block, even if
he use a journeyman quarterback.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
So does that interesting? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (19:24):
It is because it it does speak to whether all
along he did treat his guy as a graduate school
quarterback before he had pretty much completed his undergrad responsibilities, and.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Does that contribute.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
The number one thing that contributes to JJ McCarthy's problems
is inaccuracy. I want to make sure I'm clear on that.
That to me is at the top of the food chain,
top of the list. But then there are other things
that can contribute to making something that's bad look perhaps
even worse. We got prediction segment coming up with Gerby.
(20:06):
We'll get caught up with him. Did I have another
zero to three week? You were one and two because
we had to go back a few that much better
one and two? What do you mean because you didn't
do it the Thanksgiving week? We didn't blake Moore didn't
send it to me. Now we did it. You did
it on Tuesday. We did it on Tuesday. Okay, Well
then we're a week off. We're a week off.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Okay. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Well regardless, it's been a horrific year for me from
a prediction standpoint. Blake Moore has helped you out a
little bit. Yes, and I think Gerby's dominating. We'll get
to all that and what he's up to. Have we
talked to Gerby since Thanksgiving? Then no, we haven't, So
we'll find out how Turkey Day went for him. I
know they had a big event at the bed Breakfast
and Lunch place that is the talk of all of
(20:50):
the greater Elk Mound area.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
That and more. When we come back, he could.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Store time for the Bumper to Bumper award winning NFL
prediction segments on a fan brought to you by Continental Diamond.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Now to help.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
You break down this week's games, here's your favorite NFL wonk,
Dan Barrero.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
It is indeed that time again. Hold on one second,
there we go.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Gotta move the phone over because when it's time for
Carl Gerbischmid, we got to go to him as quickly
as we possibly can hi.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Carl, I dam I'm good.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Carl. How about you?
Speaker 5 (21:40):
I'm I'm pretty damn good.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Dan.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
I've got a question right off the bat from Andy
out of Apple Valley, Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
You familiar with Apple Valley, Minnesota and Andy.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
He's making that just to be on radio.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Well, that's possible. Here's this question.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Why doesn't Carl call in to the Paul Allen project anymore?
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Seems like he's scared of Pa.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
Well, first of all, Dan, my workday tends to slow
down when you're on the radio. I mean it's a
we kind of we don't take a lot do it
and do a lot of roadwork and stuff. After stay
like two o'clock after ten am, not two tens of
it's you know, Sunday's ten, but no, mostly it's two
(22:27):
and we don't generally don't go out after that. And
so I have one more time I'm in the office,
I have more time talking. Besides, Paul Allen is a
nut job?
Speaker 2 (22:37):
What's that supposed to mean?
Speaker 5 (22:39):
He's irresponsible being have you ever do you ever? Do
you ever follow on the ex like Paul Allen during
a Vikings game?
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Yeah? I do. It's great.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
You make me a tweets in the middle of the game.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
What's wrong with that?
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Like, in the middle of the game.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Does Wayne le do.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
That football game?
Speaker 3 (22:58):
It's like he has an obble game that breaks, you know, tell.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
People what's going on?
Speaker 2 (23:03):
What about timeouts?
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Wait there?
Speaker 5 (23:05):
He does never tweet that game.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
He doesn't even have a Twitter hand. Does he don't
even have an X handle?
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Okay, everybody can.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
It's very good, very knowledgeable.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Right of course it is.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Does he ever do videos? Does he ever do videos
from a hot tub like Pa does? Does he ever
do hot after games from hot I don't think he should.
It's good content, would do something like that?
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Does apparently what I think?
Speaker 5 (23:32):
All that fast one of it made me sit.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Home man road. That's not very nice.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
Well, seriously, number one makes kind of sounds that's not.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
What mean.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
You do think he's like super swelted in good shape.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Well, I'm not evaluating him on the base of his
b M. I I don't even know. I just don't
think that's very nice.
Speaker 5 (24:02):
Often tell to lose the weight. We won't have to
say anything. But he's a public city, you know, so
what you guys, You guys.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Are public, You're not exactly we can call you fat.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
So if you want, you can.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Do whatever you want. Okay, it's a free country.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
But I you're on TV, but I don't on TV.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
But I don't understand.
Speaker 5 (24:21):
Say whatever we damn well please about you?
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Well I don't do we. What's your b M I
mister smart.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
I don't understand what that is.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Body mass index? Ask missus. She probably knows she's smart.
Speaker 5 (24:33):
I am what I refer to as healthy.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Well that's what that's how you refer to yourself. That
doesn't mean you are doctor.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Say how do we know that?
Speaker 5 (24:46):
I know you guys all think I'm some big fat table. No,
it's not me. That's my brother. Okay, that's not me.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
That's not very nice either. Now you're ripping your brother.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
You can stand a you know, push away and the
thanksgiving me up every now and then.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
I just think there might be a little hypocrisy.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
Just gravy over the whole plate, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Thanksgiving? Yeah, why not let him eat?
Speaker 5 (25:11):
Like okay, it was a rough Thanksgiving anyway, It was
not a happy Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Why not? Why is it? Why not?
Speaker 5 (25:20):
You know, family, we politics, there's a lot of politics.
My brother Mark, Yeah, here is Madison He's a lefty,
isn't he? I mean you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Yeah, I mean he and my brother Randy, you just
outlive in Madison. He's more rural.
Speaker 5 (25:53):
I think that. I don't know that Randy is necessarily
a mega guy, but he likes the hat.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
So do you wear the hat to the to the
to the dinner table? Tell me you didn't?
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Yeah, well he I mean and Mark Mark's wife it's
just to you know, slightly to the left of Saynte
Ton and so she does not like it. So trying
to not give Randy any gravy or any food and that,
first of all, that's a bad idea. Yeah, he's just
(26:28):
like you know, that's like walking into the lion and saying, hey,
you can't have us neck. That's not good. So if
you if you want to threaten brand you with anything,
taking away his food is not a good idea.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
So that didn't sound like it was.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
I kind of stay out of it because I just
in general believe that contishers don't do anything anyway.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Yeah, that's really mad.
Speaker 5 (26:51):
What they do is they argue and they try to
get reelected.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
So you know what happened to the hat? Anything?
Speaker 6 (26:57):
This?
Speaker 2 (26:58):
I mean somebody likes stop.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
To be honest, he was good.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Yeah, so they they demanded he take the cap off
at the MAGA Make America Great Again cap. I'm assuming
it was the orangish red one. It's red red one
and he did they knock it off his head or
did he take it off voluntarily?
Speaker 5 (27:20):
No, it did not come to anything blows, just any
physical stuff.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (27:25):
You know there's a lot of accusations on back and forth,
you know, because Mark is the oldest, yeah, and Randy
is the youngest and yeah, and me event stay either
you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Do you just well how do you so? Do you
just ignore the savagery going back and forth? Or do
you try to step in to be peacemakers? How did
you handle it?
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Well?
Speaker 5 (27:49):
The good part about it is that we had won
the football game earlier in the day.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Yes, that saves a lot of things.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
I find that with most people in Wisconsin, if you
can just get the topic back to football, you can
solve a lot of problems.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Mm hm.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
So I'm I am. You know, I'm not technically the
leader of our family, but I am a supervisor. So
you know, I think it's not facility. I like harmony, Dan,
I'm not like you.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
You're You're not a divider.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
You're are you know, I'm a you know, I bring
people together?
Speaker 1 (28:25):
How they Yeah, along those lines, Paul Allen just texted
me to tell you Merry Christmas, Gerby is what he
just texted me at three.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Th He's trying to make you feel bad, suld.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Ridiculously said Christmas.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Said Merry Christmas. And do you feel bad now?
Speaker 5 (28:45):
Yeah? I don't think we even in twelve days at
Christmas December?
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Well, what does that even mean? To see? You can't
say Merry Christmas in early December? Who want.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
Halloween?
Speaker 2 (29:00):
You're missing the point.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
I think he's sort of trying to rise above it
and to say I'm not going to get into a uh,
you know, a peeing match with him. I'm just gonna
I'm gonna rise above it.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
First. I would never say that's sticky.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Okay, It's an expression. It's not literally would do either. Okay,
all right, I understand that, But I mean, does it
give you any remorse at all?
Speaker 5 (29:22):
How does that come up on your radar?
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Dan?
Speaker 5 (29:24):
How's that?
Speaker 1 (29:25):
The expression? Well, it's an old the expression is never
getting a pissing match with the guy who buys his
ink and fifty gallon barrels. If you must know the history,
that's it.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
Heard that a lot.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Yes, I have actually and that a former Viking executive
once said that. In fact long gone now, I don't
think he's with the team anymore.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
Talk about body functions.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
A lot we do.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
I don't think when you're from the outside you can
recognize it, but when you probably.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
I don't think we do that as much as the
Morning show. I'm guessing I'm I mean, I guess I
might do that a little more often than we do
when it comes to bodily functions, but I could be wrong.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
Yeah, I'm great. I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Well, do you want to talk to him directly, like
or just say hey, Paul, Merry Christmas to you? And
I that really was unnecessary whatever my grief, my grievances
are with you.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
I didn't have to go.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Where I went.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
I don't agreements, and I just think you're a nutjob.
I mean you can. I'm not mad at him for
being a nut job.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Half of Wisconsin's populations b m I sixty percent cheese
curd and forty logger.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
What's just an observation.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
I thought that BM. I was some said doctor thing.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Yeah, it's body mass index, and.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
What does that have to achieve?
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Nothing?
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Oh, you guys, just it's you're you're you think you're funny.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
You a oini not.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yeah, it just.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
We kind of do laugh at you, though, I mean
much in the way you would laugh at a cartoon.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
You have a very.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Literal mind, don't you. You don't understand metaphors similar very
much to you, very sure.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Yeah. I had took a lot of English, and you
did school, even took the English course, even though what's
the point of that? Yeah, has there ever been a
reason to take an English class in college? You didn't
get the hell out of college?
Speaker 2 (31:31):
No, No, where did you go to college? We've never
even talked about this. You went to Yeah we have,
so I thought that's right. Yeah, yeah, good school, hell school.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Yeah, they've gone down here a little bit politics and
they have invaded that too.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Oh is that true? Too blue for you?
Speaker 5 (31:53):
I damn imus. If it wasn't for the fact it
was a mess of Vikings color, I would say, I'm
really purp. Look, I'm always favorite of government.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
When I can you know, when you would take me,
when you can take advantage of it. Yeah, that's that's
what you're in, favoring government when you can, you can,
I have a job. Yeah, you've made that very I
remember what's that a couple of p p O loans?
If I remember, right, well, a couple.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Have you ever paid those off?
Speaker 5 (32:25):
Don't have to?
Speaker 2 (32:27):
That's a great thing, but you but you hate the government.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
That's that is. That's just here, just some free money,
and of course I'm gonna take it. I'm not stupid
mm hm. And you can sell those things and make
a lot of dough and never have to pay them back.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
I don't even know what to say to you sometimes,
but I I feel bad like it about.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
That.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Yeah, but you're a cruel man because you obviously you've
heard a field.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
Is that way? Okay? I really do. I hope so
be good for you know, health and.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Pretty sure, pretty good health. You watch he's good looking man.
Everything's fine. That's the problem.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
I don't like to rate guys. Damn well, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
I didn't rate it.
Speaker 5 (33:17):
Nothing wrong. I don't want to no, no again, I'm
a I'm a piece.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
It sounds like you think there is something wrong with it,
and I think you need to get into.
Speaker 5 (33:28):
Rate guy.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
I'm not they didn't rate him. I just said, well,
you you know you did rate him?
Speaker 5 (33:32):
Would you rate you called him?
Speaker 2 (33:35):
You all but called him a fat pig. Basically I
did not know.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
I say he mixed in a sound.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Mixing a sound is the term he used, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
Mixing out. I didn't say this. You know, he's not
like obees of ghost.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
I'm sure?
Speaker 1 (33:53):
I'm sure that would be come as a relief to him.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:57):
See right there, we're making progress right there, me and
Paul are I get a lot tighter. Although you should
stop with a stupid tweeting.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
I think you should call into a show sometime soon.
It's fit. How long has it been since you've done
just maybe to make some peace?
Speaker 5 (34:11):
Is day a second of Bey on that?
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Well?
Speaker 1 (34:14):
He is on with on Monday always, Yesterday Mondays usually,
but he was on yesterday as well.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Okay, yep with.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
Leavell senior producer Brett Blake Moore on that show.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
That show everyone so on that not right now?
Speaker 5 (34:28):
Well, maybe I don't call him that.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
I hope you.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
Do, not like I have to do with you guys.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
How was the how did the bed, breakfast and lunch
place due for over the Thanksgiving break.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
It did good. It did pretty good. We're sold out
now to the end of the year, so we're taking
bookings into twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
We don't know that, that's what you tell. We don't
know that to be true. I mean we I you know,
how do we know?
Speaker 5 (34:54):
You're not my books? Yeah? Yes, obliged to you're.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Not, but you'r I know what you are.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Blige should do is fib a little bit if it'll
make it appear that the place is taking off more
than it really is.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
Damn, it's taking off to menas.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Yeah, but.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
I don't need it, just in my justify myself to you.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
You don't.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
No, we're doing just fine. Don't forget. It's a festival
of Christmas lights.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Plus son, you're doing some honkah too good for you?
Speaker 5 (35:31):
Look for you?
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Oh you have I don't even remember that memorable? Yeah?
Do you still have the slave?
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Although they crashed the sleigh, I don't think the sleigh
is not even working, is it? Didn't you crash the
sleigh last years?
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Crashed it?
Speaker 5 (35:53):
He he did, okay, And so what we no longer
let him do is we don't let him have whore
is out there? So it's mechanized because the horse is
number one, not good with the animals.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Right, what do what does that mean?
Speaker 5 (36:12):
You're not dependable?
Speaker 1 (36:16):
You know, I'm patient, or they don't like him, or
they don't like the hat I joined.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
I don't know politics, And is this line I mean, no,
Randy is not diligent about, you know, taking care of
the animals, So we don't allow that anymore.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Does it make sense?
Speaker 1 (36:34):
By the way, so would you say you have all
your holiday stuff out already for the Christmas season in
terms of the sleigh, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
We put the lights up, we put we live now,
you know then since he moved to got the new house,
we live in a very nice, nice neighborhood, right, and
there's kind of this competition going on. You can put
more lights up. I mean the guy next door looks like,
you know, the strip in Vegas. I don't think Santa
(37:03):
Claus needs all these lights.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
So here's the But here's the contra contradiction. PA, can't
wish you a merry Christmas, but you're already in full
decoration mode on it.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
That doesn't really make sense.
Speaker 5 (37:17):
Made me put him up Dan around, I don't need
that stuff. That's not I don't you know the occasionally
inflatable reindeer. That's good.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
So you know, I don't need you think it's over
you think Christmas is over commercialized?
Speaker 5 (37:34):
Well, especially guy next door.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
What's problem.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
He's got like an inflatable reindeer. He's got inflatable Santa Claus.
He's got inflatable scene. That's great, you know, well great,
he's got like a thirty foot abominable Snowman from Rudolph
the Red Noose Reindeer. And and it's just like obnoxious.
I don't see a word Jesus and the Abominable Snowman
(37:58):
are in the same deal. That doesn't make sense. Live
and let live, I said, okay, have Christmas, live and
let live.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
I'll let him have his life.
Speaker 5 (38:07):
Do you want to do two million?
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Do you want to do the gurby Lock of the week? First,
let's let's get that out of the way first.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
Man, I got to go back to my desk.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
It's Carl Curbswitz the weak.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
So got a message and it was back this week.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Yeah, it's a good week for it.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Tickets I'm guessing are available for the four and eight
Vikings game against Washington And.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Basically you never have I'm getting tickets to the games.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
Well, it's pretty simple if you via x no no talkback.
Oh this is talkback now talkback. Thanks for reminding him
to the Well, you go to the talkback and you
can get that. You go to the iHeartMedia app. It's free,
and it's free, and then click.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
On I have that I leading on.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
My phone the cafe in uh you. From there, you
click on the mic. I think it's upright.
Speaker 5 (39:06):
Still a piece set I have that is a piece
And then you.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Got thirty seconds basically to say Carl Gersmith's lock of
the week is. And then you are automatically qualified.
Speaker 5 (39:16):
And then you say that for the drawing, and Carl
is very handsome.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
I don't think you're obligated to say that according to
the rules.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
I don't see anything.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
I bet that that's not the lock of the week.
The more nice things you say about me, you probably have.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
No that has nothing to do with it. I actually
don't even know how.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
Anyway, you get a pair of tickets the winner to
see the Vikings take on the Washington Commanders.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Tell us what Carl's lock of the week was, Yeah,
and what is your lock of the week.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
It's a tough one because I didn't have anything that
I was like super excited about this week.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
That doesn't help them.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
I'm sorry, but that's the way it is, Okay. I
think that the game I like probably best is Ma'am's Okay,
and I think we like that that take the Rams
mass eight and a half points. So Rams mass eight
and a half over Arizona.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Where is that? Is that game at Arizona's Arizona?
Speaker 1 (40:13):
So you don't care, you're still taking the Rams. Wow,
that's a lot of points Rams lost last week.
Speaker 5 (40:17):
And no, it doesn't matter because the Rams are good
at Arizona doesn't care.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Yeah, Arizona's I think you know they've given up pretty
much this season as well.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
You're right about that.
Speaker 5 (40:25):
It's like to lose because there's a lot of competitions
that last choicecad. You guys would probably.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Know that definitely for sure. And by the way, isn't
their quarterback still out? Isn't Kyler done for the year now?
I think they said they're not bringing them back at all.
Let's get to the games before we run out of time.
Packers Bears, that's in green game. It's the three twenty
five game. Packers are favored by what This is an
(40:54):
easy one for me. The Bears will cover. The Bears
will probably win the game, but they are going to
at least cover. They're going to run again surprisingly well
against the Green Bay defense, and the Bears defense is
going to surprise you with two interceptions.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Bears cover over the Packers guards.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
I'm with you on everything that you just said, maybe
not the interceptions, but I think it's going to be
a much closer game at some point. You do have
to believe in the Bears a little bit. Can't just
go is it not real?
Speaker 2 (41:21):
Is it real?
Speaker 1 (41:22):
You have to believe them in them a little. I'm
not saying they're going to win, but they will cover
the six and a half.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
Carl Well, you guys like how aboucus?
Speaker 4 (41:30):
Is that?
Speaker 5 (41:30):
Who you are? What the hell? Be one? No? Number one?
It's just it's all you've got. It's been cute up
to this point, but it's not. It's over. Okay. Fun
time is over that. And that other guy who's that
(41:51):
with the Lavelli Neil that guy.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Yes he was.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
He is tied to engage me in a Twitter award.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
I'm not I'm not biting, not gonna do not gonna
do it.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
No, I'm not gonna do it, not gonna do it.
And so we're kind of easy cover this.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
I mean, I don't.
Speaker 5 (42:07):
Think the Bend defense is that good. And it's not
like we haven't seen Ben Johnson before. We're saying a
whole bunch of times we've dealt fine with them. He's high,
he doesn't even have as good a team as he
had in Detroit.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
Got a nice of mind.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
So why why are you still hung up on that? Dan?
Speaker 2 (42:24):
I just think it was it's it's it's called a
callback in the bit.
Speaker 5 (42:26):
I think you brought that up four times? Are you okay?
He threatened Packers will cover against Chicago and it is
not going to be that close. Okay, and the next
game might closer, Yeah, but they're not gonna They're not
this one. That will not be that cold.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
And by the way, we're both two and one. Last
week you were oh and three again, So you are
fifteen and twenty four Brett Blake Moore and guards to
your twenty one. I don't even know why I bother
Gerby's twenty three and sixteen.
Speaker 5 (42:54):
Keep picking against the package, Dan, that's part of it.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
I have done that Eagles are on the road facing
the Chargers on Monday Night football. Eagles favored by two
and a half points, and the Eagles did not impress
me against the by the in the game against the Bears.
Chargers are weird. I don't know what to make of
They're both eating for Chargers. Yeah, Eagles, I'm gonna take
(43:21):
the Eagles are favored by.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Two and a half according to the DraftKings. I I
got Eagles favored.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
They had to go all way across the country, though,
I'm gonna take the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
Guardsy.
Speaker 1 (43:34):
Eagles got an extra day though to go across the country.
Not that they're doing an Oregon Trail style and stopping
in Jefferson, sam but they'll have a couple extra hours
to get acclimated to the West coast time. I'm gonna
take the Eagles. I don't like the Eagles, but I
think I like the Chargers less. And I'm annoyed with
Harbaugh for cheating so bad that we couldn't get a
(43:55):
fair evaluation of J. J. McCarthy and we're tricked into
picking him with a first round pick even though he
knew all the place hoodwinked the term. So I'm taking
the Eagles gerby.
Speaker 5 (44:05):
Yeah, I think that these teams that both for Philadelphia.
I don't think the Chargers are that good, don't. I
don't see him as even me a playoff team really,
So I think Philadelphia, I think is a playoff team.
And I think Philadelphia it's only two and a half.
It was say it was three and a half, maybe
it'd be different. Two and a half the field goals.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
So take Philadelphia, uh and the Big one Commanders favored
by one and a half over the home standing wounded
Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
It does not be very embarassing for you guys to
heck to even.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
It is.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
I'm ambarrassed that I actually last week he picked the
Vikings to cover and they didn't come close?
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Did they? Was it twenty six? Nothing? Was that was
twenty six? Nothing? The spread was? Was it was it
eight or six?
Speaker 4 (44:50):
Or so?
Speaker 1 (44:52):
It was ten and a half Vikings over the Commanders
because I believe guardsy.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Yeah if not?
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Now when you laid it in the opening segment, I
went away from picking the Vikings, and I don't remember
the way has worked. No, it hasn't mattered here. Bre
It's been in for me the last three weeks. He's
done a really nice job, so I'm probably ruining his momentum.
But the Vikings are going to win barely. It's gonna
be like fourteen to twelve, so I will take the purple.
I think I need to change my Chargers pick. Is
(45:19):
Herbert not playing?
Speaker 2 (45:21):
I don't know. I check.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
I saw him at practice yesterday. Is he listed his
question in the air.
Speaker 5 (45:29):
Yeah, he's nicked up and heard so. But I think we.
Speaker 1 (45:34):
Know he's more than nicked up. He had to have
surgery on his left hand.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
That's yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:39):
But though, yeah, he's not ruled out. Yeah, well that's yeah,
that's that's big. I'll stick with it. What's the difference?
Speaker 2 (45:49):
I mean, I'm in last. I mean, it's not gonna
make anything. It's not anything.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
I'm getting back into the race. I'm like the Vikings.
For God's sake, it doesn't matter when play fast and loose.
Apparently I picked segment the rest of this. Stop worrying
about based body.
Speaker 5 (46:00):
And yeah, don't worry about the mechanics of making the pick.
Someone stand. It's just kind of just let it fly.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
Who would you pick? Gerby?
Speaker 3 (46:11):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (46:11):
I didn't ask you, did I? Gerby? Go ahead?
Speaker 5 (46:14):
That's okay, because I this is a game, this is
I have no idea. I would say. The thing is
that Jada and Daniels is tribly gonna play, so that
changes some things. But then I realized MSS is only
one one game.
Speaker 2 (46:32):
At home all year, that's correct.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
And then you got two games left at home, Detroit
and US. You ain't win those two games.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
So if you don't win this one one game at home,
that's correct.
Speaker 5 (46:45):
That's you know, I would feel bad for you guys
at that point. Well, I think you'll find a way
to screw up your drafts. So I think miss Oi
will we'll cover and probably win.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
Okay, that's fair.
Speaker 1 (46:58):
Anything else for holiday related that we need to get
to not on Merry Christmas.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
Napoleon Paris celebrate this weekend, So that's not just what
I know. It's gonna be a bad weekend for the
Chicago Bears. Just bring it.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
That's it, I guess.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
I usually there's a musical accompaniment of some sort that
I guess.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
That's a that's it's he's too lazy, all right. Top
of the hour pause.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
Ben Gesling will join in about thirty minutes from
