Room, right and he just I mean, he helped change
the culture around here. Obviously he's up there, a little
up there in age in terms of NBA terms right now,
but I mean he literally was one of the harbingers
of the change of culture in this franchise. I think

but Mike Conley kind of like firmly put us in

that new Timberwolves era that we're currently enjoying right now,
the successful era. He was the adult in the room,
the veteran presence. And even he's still had big moments
in this past playoffs. I mean, you can still dagger
from three. I mean, he's still got a mean side.
So hopefully he has a good time over there.

like behind the scenes stuff like showing up on time
every day, showing up in a good mood every day,

bones Highland in this rotation?

Yeah, it's hard, right, I think you know, from from
bringing in a good guy and a guy that's going
to sell a lot of Twin Turbos T shirts like great, great,
fiscally responsible.

Jaden wants some of that playmaking responsibility. So right now,

I think it's just a good hedge of Hey, as

The headline going into the training camp is the QB
competition between JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray.

I think a lot of people.

Are are in the camp that this isn't really a competition.
But there's also a decent chunk of Vikings fans that
think it truly is. And that's how the franchise has
also been playing it up. Well, what you wrote an
article on zone coverage dot com. You you asked the
question does the Vikings roster construction give away the QB battle?

What do you mean by that?
Speaker 6 (27:53):
Yeah? So, I think here's.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
The thing with ots in mini camp. If you're going
to preach as a coach as O'Connell, hey, this isn't
the competition right now, I need you to learn the offense.
I'm installing this and installing it, splitting reps first team
reps between Murray the veterans, who needs to learn a
new offense right, and JJ McCarthy, who needs to improve.
Speaker 6 (28:12):
If he's going to be the start of this year.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
I think it's mixed messaging. If you say, hey, this
is in the competition. I know everyone's gonna play it
up and everyone's gonna talk about this, but I'm not
making a decision, and then at the end go like, hey,
you know, Murray, for example, wins this, right. I mean,
I think you don't want to do that to the players.
I think this will be determined though pretty early in
August A we kind of heard Murray talk about how
I need first team reps, I need to play with
(28:35):
the starters. I need to eat us to the offense,
even as a veteran, and I think it is just
very unlikely that JJ McCarthy, coming off the year that
he had, would beat out a two year you know,
poor bowler and a guy who's been in the league
for seven years. And just you know, Murray has had
injuries and has had issues obviously, I mean, listen, like
Arizona's paying like thirty six million dollars to have him
(28:57):
not play for the Cardinals, right, so there's been issues.
But I think he will be the starter. I think
that would be determined very soon. And part of it,
you know that I wrote about, is I think it
makes a lot more sense to Murray be the starter.
You could actually have Wentz be the backup. I said, like, listen,
Wentz does some things in terms of interception, in terms
of the throws he makes that don't make sense, but
(29:17):
he moves the ball. He plays like a veteran. He
still has some of that athleticism that made him a
top pick. You could just park McCarthy at the end
of the roster and just say, hey, this is a
developmental role. We're using a roster spot for that. You know,
Murray's on a one year deal. He may not be
here next year. They're not going to go with Wentz
next year. You kind of need an option in the house.

You could do.

That with this roster construction. You can't do anything similar
if mcarthy beats him out. Now, granted McCarthy puts in
the work over the summer, it looks better at training
camp changes this whole narrative.

They'll have to adjust.

It just doesn't make a lot of sense in my
mind to have it be McCarthy Murray the backup who
needs reps because he needs to either resign with the
Bikings or sign somewhere else to continue his career, a
guy in his prime, and then have Wentz, or you're
letting Wentz go and then you two players at the
injury risk.

It just if McCarthy is actually.

The starter, it kind of screws with the roster construction,
where if Murray is the starter, it gives you a
lot of options.

Any chance that they I mean there's been so you.

Of steam, some hints here and there from NFL analysts,
maybe just some guesses, I should say, And Jaj McCarthy
has publicly denied it himself. But any chance that they
look into trading JAJD McCarthy if he's not the starter.

I think there are.

I mean I think McCarthy kind of wants to play
ball with them, knowing he really likes O'Connell. He knows
there's a lot of weapons in Minnesota. You know, this
is an organization dedicated to winning. We know, I mean
obviously people here when they start owing three a couple
of years ago, like, hey, why are you still dedicated
to winning when you could be tanking? But in general,
the Vikings invest in the team. They're always trying to
go for it. It's a place you want to be as
a quarterback. Especially with O'Connell. It obviously randomizes if he

ends up getting traded. I personally, if he doesn't win
the competition, and there's any hint that he does not
like being in kind of a developmental role that he
feels like it should be his, I would flip them
for Richards and I know people why they'd be upset
with Richardson and he wants out of Indianapolis and he
was supposed to be a star. But I understand how
Anthony Richardson would be a star quarterback. I see how
(31:11):
far he throws the ball and how accurately and how
fast he is, and I think if you can round
out everything else, the timing, his footwork, the stuff Kevin
O'Connell is really really good at in again, that quarterback
three role. You're not throwing him in obviously as a
starter or even if Murray went down, but if you're
just developing purely, and you know Connell really likes him.
I think it goes back to they were going to
trade up for him during that draft. You saw the
(31:32):
interaction after the Colts game a year ago or whatever.
I would flip them and see if McCarthy could kind
of succeed with a different change of scenery, and you
bring in Richardson, who I just could see a pathway
for him succeeding, and I think that would make a
lot of sense. So I think a trade would be
on the table in August.

I mean, the QB battles all were really talking about
Tom We're all obsessed with that. That's the headline. That's
the main event of this was a boxing card, But
training camp is all about positional battles.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
It's all about roster.

That's the most exciting part is these kind of almost
soap operatic storylines, Right, But what are you most looking
forward to outside.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Of the QB battle as training camp approaches?

Yeah, I mean a lot of my focus would be
on the offensive side.

On Addison.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
I think Addison has the skill to be maybe at
number one in certain offenses, a really good compliment to
Justin Jefferson take pressure away from him. We saw him
with Carson Wentz how he was like, Dude, this guy
just gets open all the time. It's really easy to
play with Addison. But you worry about the off field stuff.
Giving him all that money kind of what that does?
Does that enable him? Are you over investing the guy
you can't trust to play seventeen games to stay out
(32:37):
of trouble. Could Jennings who they brought in, Joon Jennings,
Could he take over as the receiver too? I mean,
this is guy. I think he's a seventh round pick,
a guy who really made a name for himself in
San Francisco kind of beat the odds in that regard.
And I think it's cook he bucks because he's physical.
I think Murray called him a dirt bag, which is funny,
but you know Murray had played against him while playing
for Arizona, and I think that is a compliment that
(32:59):
he was saying, like this this guy is really He's
a really good blocker, he's a really good route runner,
He'll fight for the ball, all that stuff. And I
think if Jennings can look like a receiver too, it
gives you an option to move off to Addison if
you're worried.

About the off field stuff.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Otherwise you're really looking weirdly at the defensive side of
the ball. I know, Forrees doesn't need a toun to
work with. We see him with Roster Shark coming kind
of working around them. But do they have enough quarterback depth?
Do they have enough edge depth? In that case, it's more,
you know, kind of you have stars on that side
of the ball. What happens if they get hurt? And
can that defense function even with floors?
Speaker 1 (33:38):
You know on the sideline you mentioned the edge depth.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
I want to get back to that for a second,
but you know, We're talking so much about the QB battle,
but let's just assume whoever is a QB. What is
the ceiling for this offense this season? Like, is this
going to be an explosive top ten offense? What do
you how do you see this offense looking this.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
So, assuming Murray takes over here, he is good on
the first read, and O'Connell can scheme guys open, so
he can make Jefferson the primary target on certain plays.
And you will see Murray on certain plays where he
will anticipate a guy breaking or anticipate maybe it looks
like Jefferson's covered, there isn't safety help over the top.
He knows he's gonna break free. He's gonna get the
(34:23):
fifty to fifty ball. I think it's some of that
stuff that people had frustrations with with Cousins. Murray will
throw a deep ball very accurately. We know he's small,
we know he's been injured. You can't take away his
arm strength and his accuracy and how he weaponizes that.
The question for me is actually moving to the next read.
If Jefferson's covered, for example, does he find Addison in time?
(34:44):
Does he know how to use Hockinson. I think Hockinson
will benefit from Murray's presence. Murray had a lot of success.
I think it was with Brot McBride in Arizona. Hockinson
still has some even with the knee injury, he still
has something less than the tank. I think Murray can
really use those weapons. I think he can be a
top ten offense. I just think there's gonna be moments
of frustration where he takes off and he could have
(35:04):
gone to a second read, or you worry about him
injuring himself in the open field, or kind of these
peripheral things if the play breaks down if the first
read is not open.

fans here. The Vikings or the NFL broadly is popular
in playing in Spain in Europe, and there's a reason

for that. It's the same thing why people follow the
Premier League and why some of these teams Real Madrid
or EXAMPT Barcelona or whatever they want a falling in
the US. It kind of works the same way. So
it is kind of funny thinking about that that. Supposedly, again,
I should not be a weirdo in a four time
put up to people.

But like I could supposedly have a conversation with someone
about the Vikings here pretty sophisticated one. And it's cool
that it is a global brand. As much as I
always barn people, they may break your heart the Vikings.
The Vikings tend to do that unfortunately with their fans.

I mean little Vikings are worldwide, baby, They're a worldwide
brand and from London to Blynn and mehi Co later
this year, but they'll be down at TCO in just
a matter of weeks now. The past, the pass rush
is going to look a little different this year. Tom
No no Grenard, no Allen, no Hargrow. A lot of
analysts are saying this could be a possible weak point

for this Vikings team. How do you feel about the
pass rush the edge rush specifically?
Speaker 6 (37:23):
It depends so Van Ginko.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
We know he's getting a little bit older, but he
is He's a smart player. He will generate rush. He
obviously can do the pick sixes. He'll offer something in
that regard move off. Grenard puts pressure on Turner. I'm
a believer in Turner just in terms of raw athleticism.
From what I understand, the veteran players more speak up
in the in the room designing plays, offering input, looking
(37:48):
at the film, instructing the young guys. What they'll say
about Dallas Turner is that he's absorbing all this. He's
asking the right questions. I think as he gets older,
probably for us once these guys to offer input, how
would we design a play?
Speaker 6 (38:02):
What could we do differently?
Speaker 5 (38:03):
Where do you see mismatches that we can take advantage of?
But in the introim, I think Turner has the athleticism
and the right mentality to be a great player. I
think you're gonna get a rush if those two guys
are healthy. You're concerned here is Ben Ginkle goes through
another injury like he did last year, He's off the field,
puts a lot of pressure on Turner. Same thing if
(38:24):
Turner goes out with injury or just again, a developing
player can't put on the pressure that Grenard could.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
Who is that next guy?
Speaker 5 (38:31):
And you know Jalen Redmans, you know, like I kind
of look at that and go they could use someone
a veteran who maybe hasn't signed yet, and you kind
of bring them in. Think of like Stephan Gilmour, just
a defensive end or whatever where you bring him in
late you say, hey, you know the Flora's defense. You
know what you're supposed to do. And that would alleviate
(38:52):
some pressure in terms of if Van Ginkle, if Turner
were to get hurt. But those two guys, if they
stay healthy, I think can generate pressure.

intends to go to the clubs and talk to some

And I thought that's the thing is because the team
once you go four and eight and you're not going
to make the playoffs, and there's so much focus on
McCarthy and what's Sam Darnold going to do and stuff
looking over at Seattle, right, there's less focus. And I
really thought he came alive late in those games. I
don't think it was related to the games mattering less
because they were still trying to win. They still ended
up going nine to eight. He still had to prove something.

I think he gave them enough that they could they
could move Offre Greneur. So I really think Turner stands
out to me. I think the other question is kind
of does someone you know in the secondary do something
in terms of you know, I think of like I
think it's Jacobe Thomas as the guy that got out
of Miami, the safety. I don't know if he'll start,
I don't know. You know, he's got something to prove
in camp. But if Harrison Smith is not there, you

really don't want me tell us to be in a
defined position.

So it'd be nice if he could kind of move.

The linebacker occasionally you can move around the field, be
that chess piece. That's when he's at his best. If
Thomas comes in enables that takes some pressure off the
corners where there's some question about depths and kind of
the guys who's starting there. You love a guy who
got in the middle rounds to adapt to the forest defense.
It's be a big part of it. Showcase that athleticism. Again,
if Harrison Smith retires makes you feel a little bit
(42:32):
better about that that you kind of have a replacement,
even though you can't really replace Harrison Smith one to one,
but you have a guy to replace that position down
the line. So I think of that, I mean, the
other the other question is if I don't know if
it's going to be brand Dell, but if someone kind
of secures the center position on the offensive line. We
know Darrisun's good, we know and Neil's good. We know
that they've slid it by the offensive line a lot.
(42:54):
But I think the question there, especially if you have
Kyler Murray learning the offense, if you have to go
to McCarthy either he wins the the competition or he
you know, there's an injury to Murray, you still want
a center who who who does his top effectively to
help the quarterback help you know, that's where the ball
ultimately starts. Aside from that, the Claiborne like that running back.
(43:14):
He's tiny, but he's super fast. And if he again,
if if at some point you have to move out
Aaron Jones, if Claiborne can showcase that speed that that
people aren't talking about his size and his height all
the time, if he kind of lives up to the
athletic hype. I guess we have for him. There's a
handful of guys that had come from probably the later round,
or would be a turner who's been on the team
for a little bit. But there's a handful of guys
(43:35):
who could break out if they take advantagement opportunity.

organization sees as undervalue who could be developed. And I
tend to just take clues from what you see during draft,
you know, during the draft, or who are these guys
talking about? Who are they thinking about training up for.
I think about it this way. Obviously, there's a big
giveaway that they wanted Drake may Well, if you had
the amo to go get Drake may or if you
just had a bad enough record that you could have

drafted him, obviously, imagine what he would do here in Minnesota. Right,
So I think you have to take clues in terms
of who these guys value, who O'Connell, who the organization values,
and I think those are the guys who probably could
succeed in Minnesota if Kyler Murray is a guy. Also,
I remind people he may end up Murray mayn just
sticking around. He may end up just signing the Darnald contract.

And then the question we'll all have is would you
have rather had Sam Darnold's right, I'm kind of that
three year, one hundred million dollar contract or Murray on
a similar contract. So unfortunately, just the way things are
right now, the most important position for the Minnesota Vikings
are very talented football team.

Bosnia had zero point zero four in the first half,

out possessed, had more XG than Wow and Bosnia did.

where I thought they could have maybe got one back

is it about this US team that is making them

He flies right past him with his speed. So what
happens The guy holds him back and pulls his jersey

other side, like we want to actually work and be
in control of the game, you need someone that's good
to his feet, and that Freeze is. So he made
the saves he had to make. I wouldn't say he's been,

the culture around here. Obviously he's up there, a little
up there in age in terms of NBA terms right now,
but I mean he literally was one of the harbingers

but Mike Conley kind of like firmly put us in

that new Timberwolves era that we're currently enjoying right now,
the successful era. He was the adult in the room,
the veteran presence. And even he's still had big moments

this is really guard heavy team. Where do you see
bones Highland in this rotation?

Yeah, it's hard, right, I think you know, from from
bringing in a good guy and a guy that's going
to sell a lot of Twin Turbos T shirts like great, great,
fiscally responsible.

competition between JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray.

I think a lot of people.

Are are in the camp that this isn't really a competition.
But there's also a decent chunk of Vikings fans that
think it truly is. And that's how the franchise has
also been playing it up. Well, what you wrote an
article on zone coverage dot com. You you asked the
question does the Vikings roster construction give away the QB battle?

What do you mean by that?

Yeah? So, I think here's.

The thing with ots in mini camp. If you're going
to preach as a coach as O'Connell, hey, this isn't
the competition right now, I need you to learn the offense.
I'm installing this and installing it, splitting reps first team
reps between Murray the veterans, who needs to learn a
new offense right, and JJ McCarthy, who needs to improve.

If he's going to be the start of this year.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
I think it's mixed messaging. If you say, hey, this
is in the competition. I know everyone's gonna play it
up and everyone's gonna talk about this, but I'm not
making a decision, and then at the end go like, hey,
you know, Murray, for example, wins this, right. I mean,
I think you don't want to do that to the players.
I think this will be determined though pretty early in
August A we kind of heard Murray talk about how
I need first team reps, I need to play with
(28:35):
the starters. I need to eat us to the offense,
even as a veteran, and I think it is just
very unlikely that JJ McCarthy, coming off the year that
he had, would beat out a two year you know,
poor bowler and a guy who's been in the league
for seven years. And just you know, Murray has had
injuries and has had issues obviously, I mean, listen, like
Arizona's paying like thirty six million dollars to have him
(28:57):
not play for the Cardinals, right, so there's been issues.
But I think he will be the starter. I think
that would be determined very soon. And part of it,
you know that I wrote about, is I think it
makes a lot more sense to Murray be the starter.
You could actually have Wentz be the backup. I said, like, listen,
Wentz does some things in terms of interception, in terms
of the throws he makes that don't make sense, but
(29:17):
he moves the ball. He plays like a veteran. He
still has some of that athleticism that made him a
top pick. You could just park McCarthy at the end
of the roster and just say, hey, this is a
developmental role. We're using a roster spot for that. You know,
Murray's on a one year deal. He may not be
here next year. They're not going to go with Wentz
next year. You kind of need an option in the house.

You could do.

That with this roster construction. You can't do anything similar
if mcarthy beats him out. Now, granted McCarthy puts in
the work over the summer, it looks better at training
camp changes this whole narrative.

It just doesn't make a lot of sense in my
mind to have it be McCarthy Murray the backup who
needs reps because he needs to either resign with the
Bikings or sign somewhere else to continue his career, a
guy in his prime, and then have Wentz, or you're
letting Wentz go and then you two players at the
injury risk.

It just if McCarthy is actually.

The starter, it kind of screws with the roster construction,
where if Murray is the starter, it gives you a
lot of options.

Any chance that they I mean there's been so you.

Of steam, some hints here and there from NFL analysts,
maybe just some guesses, I should say, And Jaj McCarthy
has publicly denied it himself. But any chance that they
look into trading JAJD McCarthy if he's not the starter.

I mean I think McCarthy kind of wants to play
ball with them, knowing he really likes O'Connell. He knows
there's a lot of weapons in Minnesota. You know, this
is an organization dedicated to winning. We know, I mean
obviously people here when they start owing three a couple
of years ago, like, hey, why are you still dedicated
to winning when you could be tanking? But in general,
the Vikings invest in the team. They're always trying to
go for it. It's a place you want to be as
a quarterback. Especially with O'Connell. It obviously randomizes if he

ends up getting traded. I personally, if he doesn't win
the competition, and there's any hint that he does not
like being in kind of a developmental role that he
feels like it should be his, I would flip them
for Richards and I know people why they'd be upset
with Richardson and he wants out of Indianapolis and he
was supposed to be a star. But I understand how
Anthony Richardson would be a star quarterback. I see how
(31:11):
far he throws the ball and how accurately and how
fast he is, and I think if you can round
out everything else, the timing, his footwork, the stuff Kevin
O'Connell is really really good at in again, that quarterback
three role. You're not throwing him in obviously as a
starter or even if Murray went down, but if you're
just developing purely, and you know Connell really likes him.
I think it goes back to they were going to
trade up for him during that draft. You saw the
(31:32):
interaction after the Colts game a year ago or whatever.
I would flip them and see if McCarthy could kind
of succeed with a different change of scenery, and you
bring in Richardson, who I just could see a pathway
for him succeeding, and I think that would make a
lot of sense. So I think a trade would be
on the table in August.

I mean, the QB battles all were really talking about
Tom We're all obsessed with that. That's the headline. That's
the main event of this was a boxing card, But
training camp is all about positional battles.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
It's all about roster.

That's the most exciting part is these kind of almost
soap operatic storylines, Right, But what are you most looking
forward to outside.

Of the QB battle as training camp approaches?

Yeah, I mean a lot of my focus would be
on the offensive side.

On Addison.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
I think Addison has the skill to be maybe at
number one in certain offenses, a really good compliment to
Justin Jefferson take pressure away from him. We saw him
with Carson Wentz how he was like, Dude, this guy
just gets open all the time. It's really easy to
play with Addison. But you worry about the off field stuff.
Giving him all that money kind of what that does?
Does that enable him? Are you over investing the guy
you can't trust to play seventeen games to stay out
(32:37):
of trouble. Could Jennings who they brought in, Joon Jennings,
Could he take over as the receiver too? I mean,
this is guy. I think he's a seventh round pick,
a guy who really made a name for himself in
San Francisco kind of beat the odds in that regard.
And I think it's cook he bucks because he's physical.
I think Murray called him a dirt bag, which is funny,
but you know Murray had played against him while playing
for Arizona, and I think that is a compliment that
(32:59):
he was saying, like this this guy is really He's
a really good blocker, he's a really good route runner,
He'll fight for the ball, all that stuff. And I
think if Jennings can look like a receiver too, it
gives you an option to move off to Addison if
you're worried.

About the off field stuff.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Otherwise you're really looking weirdly at the defensive side of
the ball. I know, Forrees doesn't need a toun to
work with. We see him with Roster Shark coming kind
of working around them. But do they have enough quarterback depth?
Do they have enough edge depth? In that case, it's more,
you know, kind of you have stars on that side
of the ball. What happens if they get hurt? And
can that defense function even with floors?
Speaker 1 (33:38):
You know on the sideline you mentioned the edge depth.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
I want to get back to that for a second,
but you know, We're talking so much about the QB battle,
but let's just assume whoever is a QB. What is
the ceiling for this offense this season? Like, is this
going to be an explosive top ten offense? What do
you how do you see this offense looking this.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
So, assuming Murray takes over here, he is good on
the first read, and O'Connell can scheme guys open, so
he can make Jefferson the primary target on certain plays.
And you will see Murray on certain plays where he
will anticipate a guy breaking or anticipate maybe it looks
like Jefferson's covered, there isn't safety help over the top.
He knows he's gonna break free. He's gonna get the
(34:23):
fifty to fifty ball. I think it's some of that
stuff that people had frustrations with with Cousins. Murray will
throw a deep ball very accurately. We know he's small,
we know he's been injured. You can't take away his
arm strength and his accuracy and how he weaponizes that.
The question for me is actually moving to the next read.
If Jefferson's covered, for example, does he find Addison in time?
(34:44):
Does he know how to use Hockinson. I think Hockinson
will benefit from Murray's presence. Murray had a lot of success.
I think it was with Brot McBride in Arizona. Hockinson
still has some even with the knee injury, he still
has something less than the tank. I think Murray can
really use those weapons. I think he can be a
top ten offense. I just think there's gonna be moments
of frustration where he takes off and he could have
(35:04):
gone to a second read, or you worry about him
injuring himself in the open field, or kind of these
peripheral things if the play breaks down if the first
read is not open.

fans here. The Vikings or the NFL broadly is popular
in playing in Spain in Europe, and there's a reason

for that. It's the same thing why people follow the
Premier League and why some of these teams Real Madrid
or EXAMPT Barcelona or whatever they want a falling in
the US. It kind of works the same way. So
it is kind of funny thinking about that that. Supposedly, again,
I should not be a weirdo in a four time
put up to people.

But like I could supposedly have a conversation with someone
about the Vikings here pretty sophisticated one. And it's cool
that it is a global brand. As much as I
always barn people, they may break your heart the Vikings.

I mean little Vikings are worldwide, baby, They're a worldwide
brand and from London to Blynn and mehi Co later
this year, but they'll be down at TCO in just
a matter of weeks now. The past, the pass rush
is going to look a little different this year. Tom
No no Grenard, no Allen, no Hargrow. A lot of
analysts are saying this could be a possible weak point

for this Vikings team. How do you feel about the
pass rush the edge rush specifically?
Speaker 6 (37:23):
It depends so Van Ginko.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
We know he's getting a little bit older, but he
is He's a smart player. He will generate rush. He
obviously can do the pick sixes. He'll offer something in
that regard move off. Grenard puts pressure on Turner. I'm
a believer in Turner just in terms of raw athleticism.
From what I understand, the veteran players more speak up
in the in the room designing plays, offering input, looking
(37:48):
at the film, instructing the young guys. What they'll say
about Dallas Turner is that he's absorbing all this. He's
asking the right questions. I think as he gets older,
probably for us once these guys to offer input, how
would we design a play?
Speaker 6 (38:02):
What could we do differently?
Speaker 5 (38:03):
Where do you see mismatches that we can take advantage of?
But in the introim, I think Turner has the athleticism
and the right mentality to be a great player. I
think you're gonna get a rush if those two guys
are healthy. You're concerned here is Ben Ginkle goes through
another injury like he did last year, He's off the field,
puts a lot of pressure on Turner. Same thing if
(38:24):
Turner goes out with injury or just again, a developing
player can't put on the pressure that Grenard could.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
Who is that next guy?
Speaker 5 (38:31):
And you know Jalen Redmans, you know, like I kind
of look at that and go they could use someone
a veteran who maybe hasn't signed yet, and you kind
of bring them in. Think of like Stephan Gilmour, just
a defensive end or whatever where you bring him in
late you say, hey, you know the Flora's defense. You
know what you're supposed to do. And that would alleviate
(38:52):
some pressure in terms of if Van Ginkle, if Turner
were to get hurt. But those two guys, if they
stay healthy, I think can generate pressure.

intends to go to the clubs and talk to some

And I thought that's the thing is because the team
once you go four and eight and you're not going
to make the playoffs, and there's so much focus on
McCarthy and what's Sam Darnold going to do and stuff
looking over at Seattle, right, there's less focus. And I
really thought he came alive late in those games. I
don't think it was related to the games mattering less
because they were still trying to win. They still ended
up going nine to eight. He still had to prove something.

I think he gave them enough that they could they
could move Offre Greneur. So I really think Turner stands
out to me. I think the other question is kind
of does someone you know in the secondary do something
in terms of you know, I think of like I
think it's Jacobe Thomas as the guy that got out
of Miami, the safety. I don't know if he'll start,
I don't know. You know, he's got something to prove
in camp. But if Harrison Smith is not there, you

really don't want me tell us to be in a
defined position.

So it'd be nice if he could kind of move.

The linebacker occasionally you can move around the field, be
that chess piece. That's when he's at his best. If
Thomas comes in enables that takes some pressure off the
corners where there's some question about depths and kind of
the guys who's starting there. You love a guy who
got in the middle rounds to adapt to the forest defense.
It's be a big part of it. Showcase that athleticism. Again,
if Harrison Smith retires makes you feel a little bit
(42:32):
better about that that you kind of have a replacement,
even though you can't really replace Harrison Smith one to one,
but you have a guy to replace that position down
the line. So I think of that, I mean, the
other the other question is if I don't know if
it's going to be brand Dell, but if someone kind
of secures the center position on the offensive line. We
know Darrisun's good, we know and Neil's good. We know
that they've slid it by the offensive line a lot.
(42:54):
But I think the question there, especially if you have
Kyler Murray learning the offense, if you have to go
to McCarthy either he wins the the competition or he
you know, there's an injury to Murray, you still want
a center who who who does his top effectively to
help the quarterback help you know, that's where the ball
ultimately starts. Aside from that, the Claiborne like that running back.
(43:14):
He's tiny, but he's super fast. And if he again,
if if at some point you have to move out
Aaron Jones, if Claiborne can showcase that speed that that
people aren't talking about his size and his height all
the time, if he kind of lives up to the
athletic hype. I guess we have for him. There's a
handful of guys that had come from probably the later round,
or would be a turner who's been on the team
for a little bit. But there's a handful of guys
(43:35):
who could break out if they take advantagement opportunity.

organization sees as undervalue who could be developed. And I
tend to just take clues from what you see during draft,
you know, during the draft, or who are these guys
talking about? Who are they thinking about training up for.
I think about it this way. Obviously, there's a big
giveaway that they wanted Drake may Well, if you had
the amo to go get Drake may or if you
just had a bad enough record that you could have

drafted him, obviously, imagine what he would do here in Minnesota. Right,
So I think you have to take clues in terms
of who these guys value, who O'Connell, who the organization values,
and I think those are the guys who probably could
succeed in Minnesota if Kyler Murray is a guy. Also,
I remind people he may end up Murray mayn just
sticking around. He may end up just signing the Darnald contract.

And then the question we'll all have is would you
have rather had Sam Darnold's right, I'm kind of that
three year, one hundred million dollar contract or Murray on
a similar contract. So unfortunately, just the way things are
right now, the most important position for the Minnesota Vikings
are very talented football team.
