Speaker 1 (00:16):
Hey rooms.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
This football season, bel Bank is giving one kafan listener
each week one thousand dollars to pay forward to a
charity of their choice. Just head over to kiffan dot
com keybord contests to learn more and answer. Today that's
kafan dot com keyword contests a couple of.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Thirteen fourteen pass has been an action packed, fast baced,
and as always, a very controversial first hour the Common
Man program What's New just concluded the head coaches day
after the game news conference, Kevin O'Connor. We'll talk about
that a little bit later. A couple of things we
can show on. But right now, as we start at
one o'clock hours, time for five three.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Four time now yell four decades? Five questions? Well, actually three,
but five sounds like more than four. What the question
number one?

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Oh, it's now time to take an in depth look
at the welfare of the Wolves.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
The Wolves entered the fourth quarter down ninety three eighty
nine to San Antonio, but went on a twenty five
to seven run to beat the Spurs one to twenty
five one twelve. Last night at Target Center, Anthony Edwards
scored thirty two points set the franchise record for most
thirty point games. Julius randall all around good effort. He
finished at twenty two point six boards and twelve assists.
Comin what sticks out to you from last night's win

(01:40):
over the Spurs.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well, they turned the tables.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
It's two of their three previous games they had leads
and lost them. There was that eight point lead with
fifty seconds to go, Julius ran it was trash talking.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Was it the Suns? I think yeah? And we lost
and then we lost another.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
One where we were was that who I don't remember
who it was now, but same thing where we had
a lead, we had a three and a half minutes
to go with like a ten point lead.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
We blew that game. You mentioned the small ball.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Thing and Edwards wasn't on the floor for a good
portion of the fourth Was that correct?

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Wasn't right?

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Well?

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I know, but just but I was gonna get to that,
But so was Edwards? Right?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Edwards was not which he's not small, I mean he's
a small guy. He and a tall guy. So they
had him off the floor in their small ball. It
was up for a good portion of it. And then
Rudy Gobert wasn't out on the floor at all and
that that seemed to work well. Now again, does that
work all the time?

Speaker 1 (02:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
It's you know, the matchup begins, the team you're playing,
where they going small?

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Where they I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
I didn't watch any I can't bring myself to watch
the team right now. But yeah, win's win. You know,
it's it's the same ole, it's there's the team. Really,
the issue with me with him is there's no consistency.
There's no rhyme or reason to how they play. Uh.
Sometimes they are a terrible team in a terrible city
with terrible fans in a terrible city. Some other times

(02:59):
they played pretty good, like they did yesterday they rallied
back and win a game. So it was that the
first game that they beat a team with a winning
record or something.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
I'm not our second time.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
So I you know, I it's so early in the year,
and you know where we already know that they created
a Commissioner's Cup thing just to get teams to try
hard in the first you know quarter of the season.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
So it's it's it's early.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
It's you know, win as many as you can and
just get to postseason play and see where it goes
from there. But better to win than lose, and that's
what they did, so good for them.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Question number two.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Time now for an in depth look at the state
of the state of hockey.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
The state of hockey, state of hockey. Still the wild
Game three or four points. This weekend, they beat the
Colorado Avalanche three two in a shootout ride aid. Then
they fell to the Buffalo Sabers three to two in
a shootout on Saturday night that snapped their seven game
winning streak. Common your thoughts on the wilds weekend.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
ABS game. ABS are the best team in hockey right record.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
I have one loss in regulation, so we're like a
quarter of the way through the season. So past a
quarter you have to put on twenty five games. They've
lost one regulation.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
You have to put on your big boy breezers against
a team like that, and they did. They win the game,
and it's it goes to show me that a National
Hockey League season is not it's.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
A what tennemy, It's a marathon, not a spread that
is correct.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
And so because I add Ratt wrote them off early,
I said, well, you know, and I was gonna gonna
I was going to.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Give them a semi pass.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
You know, I know that we'd all been waiting for
the breezers a suitor contracts to it to to to
to expire.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
You know that that that you.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Know that they would be we would have to be
paying those guys money anymore, right, And uh what I
I I buy the the the the idea that, well,
we wanted to spend money, but all the all the
pending free agents that you'd really want to sink your
teeth and do and spend money on, we're all re
signed for the most part by the teams they were

(05:23):
already playing with. So then you just spend money to
spend money. Do you ought to get a Fries? Do
you go out and get a a Ryan?

Speaker 1 (05:32):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
It's like you say to yourself, well, maybe we don't.
And so I thought, well, this would just be. But
then all of a sudden, once the calendar flipped to November,
is it ten to one and one or eleven one
and one?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
What something like?

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yeah, it's it's it's remarkable And they're getting contributions from
AHA players.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Did I see his caprice a third leading score? I
believe that is close to correct, if not exactly correct.
I think he's third leading score.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
We've already talked in depth about how good the goaltending
has been and how the wall in Saint Paul, maybe
even because of his just terrific play, astonishing play really
to be honest, since he's gotten some more regular playing time,
maybe maybe even inspired Gus Buss a little bit, because
Gus Bus is playing really well in the So yeah,

(06:19):
if you have two really good goals, and I don't
know how long the hot goals any lasts, maybe all
year if it does, if they continue to play like this,
they'll be in the mix. Elf yet to have one,
so they'll be in the mix.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Every time I watch Wall set, I'm like, this guy's
an absolute study. Yeah, and I think he gives the
team confidence Iree.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
So yeah, I mean it's it's it's do you like parades?

Speaker 1 (06:42):
That's the question I'm asking. And I right now looks
like we're we're we're.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
King of the Hill, a number one, top of the list,
starts spreading the news.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
So yeah, I like what I've seen. Well, but I've
read I I haven't seen anymore.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
And I said from the get and I'll say it again.
If you're looking for a because it's the Cup in
Minnesota this year. The way it was going to have
to work is this team had to be in contention
come trade deadline, and then you're gonna have to go
elsewhere trade deadline time to really boost your team. And
now the month of November they've put themselves at least

(07:20):
in that spot. They still got to sustain that here
for a couple more months, and as long as Caprice off,
Boldy and Eric's and next stay healthy, which is always
a big if in this town, Caprize because they've had
lots of injuries, but their big guys haven't been hurt,
and that's why they've been able to weather the storm
of all the other injuries they've got. Any of euro

(07:42):
obs now out ROSSI still abed dully. He started to
skate again today. But as long as those three stay healthy,
they're going to be in contention. And obviously I guess
I gotta throw a ball set in that mix at
this point.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
What about Tarashenko house he playing not great.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Way you need to uh And I've said this name
before their opponent Saturday night, Tage Thompson on that team,
that's who we need to bring in here come trade line.
They're they're last in the Eastern Conference. Uh, he's gonna
have one year left in his contract. He might just
kind of force his way out because he's miserable.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
There.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Let's go, let's go bring him in here. What's his name,
Tage Thompson, Tage play. He's a right handed center.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
And he's huge.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
He's a big boy, but he can he can score.
He'd be I mean, he's almost at like Caprice level
types of talent in terms of scoring goal.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Does he skate on your level? Because I mean, you
can skate with anything. He skates slightly better than me?
How much? Because you can skate with I think I
was talking about guys that are no longer in the league.
But I thought you were talking about the Caprice offs. No, no,
I cannot skate with Carol Caprice.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
No.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
That's it for today.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Is one question that only had one question question questions.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
But well, that's right. Always, I forget about the Wolves.
Let's do this. Let's pause, come back.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
We have a lot of things I want to get into,
including some silly. It's been brought to my attention I
was involved in some silly, stupid the sixty four.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Brackets yeah, I what a dumb idea. That was terrible idea.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
And know some people actually took it seriously. And I
heard there were people they must work for dominion voting systems.
They were stuff in the ballot box.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Kind of sad. Really, we'll take a break. We'll come
back with more here on the Common in Fort month ten.

Speaker 2 (09:45):

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Toys for Tots Tomorrow all day long from Shields and
Eden Prairie Power Trip. Morning show starts at five thirty,
they go to nine. The National Treasure will be nine
to noon and then tend to be an I from
noon to three. Big Ticket three to six thirty, a
long with JG that will close things out. Bring an
unwrapped toy for girls and boys teenagers too. You know,

(10:32):
oftentimes people will bring toys for tots because that's what
it's called Toys for toss. But there are teenagers that
are in need. I think we take cash.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Donations still too that are used to buy gifts. And
you know, if.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
You're thinking, well, it's a couple of stops and I
got to stop somewhere and buy gift and then I
got to go stop over at Shields. They sell all
sorts of stuff at Shields that you can use for
toys for Tots. So we'd certainly like to see you there,
and as always, just want to say that, you know,
the listeners of the Common Man Program have a reputation
of really really being a giving group, and so we

(11:08):
certainly liked it during the grum have you come on buy?
And what's that thing with the being he had is
at the first fifty for each show? Is that what
I don't want to give away too many hats.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
From unready able to look at the vibe. I thought
it was like the first show, first fifty donors each show. Yeah,
so you get a you get a cool and they're
nice hats. I have one, so you'll and uh, Vikings
linebacker Blake Cashman will join us at one pm.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Oh good, I can give him the same routine where
I do you know, look, I've played the game before,
and he's probably gona ask me if you ever played quarterback?

Speaker 1 (11:41):
We could use no, he wouldn't say that. He would
never say anything.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
All I remember with Blake Cashman was we interviewed him
a year ago when he had just signed with as
a free agent at Bikings training camp, and then.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Justin Jefferson immediately just.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Crashed the entire interview and we just basically went straight
to Jessee Jeffers.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
That is igna Cashman.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
I tried to save a story now and wants me
I'm already subscribed. Technology sometimes gets to meet Tennabee. I
am Minnesota Golden gold for football team closed out the
regular season, had one more game. If you remember that team, Tennabe,
are you looking forward to another month of practices and

(12:25):
then traveling to Detroit to play in a Tuesday after
new football game in that quarter full stadium. I guarantee
you that if you asked each kid on the team
and said I'm sworn to secrecy, I promise I won't
tell anybody what's your interest level in playing that ball game?

Speaker 1 (12:48):
And I would bet ninety eight.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Percent would say, I just wish the season were over now.
It's been a long season, a hard season, and disappointing season,
particularly on the road.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
I mean, I think it's disappointing.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
And then you got to go and then, let's face it,
you are playing in an exhibition game. These games were
created to sell TV space.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
That's all.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
That's the only reason they're there, Folks that there's no
other reason to have a minor key car care ball.
There's no reason at all or any of the ball games.
There's a handful your old standbys, your your Rose Bulls,
your Orange bulls, your Cotton bulls is, your Gator Bulls
is and you're a national championship and now that we
have a playoff.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
To me, that's plenty. But who am I to say?

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Maybe there are a lot of kids that still enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
The problem is football practice isn't fun. Well, that's it.
Like other sports, you can have fun practices.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Chips Goggins a steam column of Fish Rap Factory West Side.
We text and talk more than most people know. We're
both from living Woodbury. His headline, the headline d is
column reads Drake Lindsay's strong season as starting quarterback gives
go for something to build around for twenty twenty six.

(14:02):
That little sub headline or whatever they call it. I
don't know what they call it. In the newspaper Industry
says his first regular season concluded with a Trophy Game victory,
another game where he showed the traits that gave the
Gophers confidence to start a red shirt freshman.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
To begin with. He did have a nice season.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
His two hundred and eighteen completions ranked number five in
program history for a single season. Is three hundred and
sixty one pass attempts ranked tenth. He threw sixteen tutties
and only six ins indies in twelve starts.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
This is Chip I'm reading from his piece.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
He mostly made smart decisions and took care of of
the football.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
That's impressive.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Impressive for a young quarterback facing Big Ten competition for
the first time. Lindsay will get better with time and experience,
and the Govers need to improve around him to become
more of a complete offense. Their running game ranks last
in the Big Ten and one twenty eighth nationally.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
In it is a problem. We see that with the Vikings.
They can't run the ball.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Either, especially on short yard situations and the coach feels
like he has to throw he we're talking about O'Connell
and we're switching here just for a second. He admitted
a couple of times during the news conference, and they're
just concluding in his conference that he wishes he could
take that play back on when they decided to go.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Four on fourth and one, he called a little roll out.
More on that later. I want to dive into that.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
I'll even argue with the coach even even he says,
I don't know why that was considered such a bad decision,
but maybe somebody can convince me as to why it was.
Here's the one, you now, the reason we have exceptional
quarterback play, A lot of it has through with Max Brozmer, Right.
I mean, we finally have a a a coach. As

(15:46):
you know, we mentioned this earlier in the show or forever.
PGA just like to run the ball, run it forty times,
limit the other team's offensive possessions. If you can grind
out first three and a half yards and a cloud
at us and if the defense play pretty solid, and
you can win some low scoring games. And now they've

(16:06):
decided they wanted to pass the ball more, and they
started with Brozemer, who even Kelly Kelly the Greek kid,
as Rosen called him. I think he actually kind of
maybe started it, jump started it because he could throw
the ball a little bit. And then Rosemer had a
great year and Lindsay was pretty good too. And there's

(16:32):
a quote in Ship's column from former Gopher quarterback Tanner Morgan.
It was in a conversation Chip had with him back
in September. It says, if he stays healthy, meaning Drake Lindsay,
he will leave with the all time wins, all time

(16:52):
passing records. It will be number five Drake Lindsay throughout
the record book because of.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
What he's doing.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
I would amend that quote by saying, if he stays
healthy and doesn't leave in the transfer portal, he'll leave
with the all time wins and all time passing records.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
And that is kind of the issue, right.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
I have no indication that he's going to and I
don't know how easy it is to get into the
transfer portal.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
I don't think it's much at all, and he might
not have any desires.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
To do that at all. I mean, I would assume
he likes it here after one year, But if let's
say he's really good next year, and the team has
trouble running the ball again defensively, you know, they give
up fifteen hundred yards over three game stretch. Does he
look around and go, I don't like this, you know,
like Ben Leeber once said, a bar you know, when

(17:42):
to listen to the common man program, he said, I.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Don't like this.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
So that, to me is the bigger question is will
the Gophers Will they put better? You know, because Chip
talks about here having better offensive lineman quality, you know,
upgrading pretty much everything around him. Are they going to
be able to do that? He does leave in the
transfer portal, he go and and and with the with
the way the rules are set up. We saw the

(18:07):
lane kiffy thing. I want to talk about that, the
other side of the break, with the way coaches leave
and every these you have a very short collegiate career,
unless you Parker Fox, then he plays six, seven, eight years.
But otherwise you're out right. And so you've got a
short window. And if you have a chance to succeed elsewhere,
if all of a sudden, the other with.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
The nil money, yeah, the nil nil money. Do we
know Korey Parts is gonna stay? Did he go, oh,
let's go somewhere else forget to chance, win a ship
and get more money.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
So we'll talk a little bit about that on the
side of the break. Don't forget no rose. And today
he'll join us. Will he be coming out for toys
for TOSK.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Coming out shield Ye?

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Good deal and we'll see him tomorrow. Then we'll take
a short break, come back with more here in the Common.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
N program on the Fan, Fan and the Vikings are
teaming up for toys for tots. Just join us live
at Shields and Eating Prairie tomorrow Tuesday, December second, from

(19:08):
five to thirty am to six thirty pm. What's the
name of the place again for our annual broadcast presented
by Unreal, That would be a Shields and Eden Prairie.
I'll bring a toy, spread some joy and if you're
one of the first fifty donors each show, you'll score
a sweet Kfan Unreal Winter beanie details Acafe dot Com
Slash Toys.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Reading from the.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Golphers game or analysis piece, Fisher REMP. West Side says
for Gopher's coach PJ. Fleck, the victory is special in
many ways. First it came on his forty fifth birthday.
We all have birthdays. But it also secured a sixth
winning season in his nine years in Dinky Town, and
at seven and five overall and five and four in

(19:48):
the Big Ten, the Golphers bolstered their case to upgrade
their bull destination. Flex said, this is a really good
football team that's earned the right to play in a really.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
Good ball bowl game. Whatever that looks like.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Is he delusional or I guess it all depends upon
your definition of what a really good football team looks like.
Remember he said that to the team after they got
killed by Ohio State. He told the team, you're a
really good football team. It's a really good program. We're
just in overheads there. Then they got beat I mean
just humiliated and annihilated by Iowa. And he said, we're
a really good football team in a really good program.

(20:25):
And he says that over and if you just keep
saying it enough, I guess either you really do believe it,
or you're just trying to make the team believe it,
the boosters believe it, or maybe more importantly, the people
that sign your paycheck to believe it. You can get
another maybe if he gets a bowl game somewhere rather
than December twenty sixth. Maybe he'll get another extension. I
don't know, And I like PJ. I do, and I

(20:48):
like O'Connell.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
You know.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
I just people think I don't like these guys, has
nothing to would like or dislike.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
Both of fine, upstanding young men.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
As far as I know, family guys, got kid, you know.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
The whole thing.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
That's great, work hard at what they do, and I
think they both good football coaches. But like in flex case,
I think sometimes it's like you just keep saying this
over and it's it's all right.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
But I don't know if i'd call it a really
good football team.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
I mean, they're they're six and oh at home, five
and oh or zero to five on the road, can't
win a road game, got crushed by three ranked teams.
And I know that with nil and helmet schools and
everything else that's involved, it's it's always going to be
difficult for the University of Minnesota to go toe to

(21:31):
toe with those teams and even win. But I mean,
at least don't give up five hundred and one of
those five hundred yard games. Wasn't even one of those
that was who it was Michigan State was wedged in between.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
It's like, and you know, I know.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
So, okay, they give up seven points and the defense
played better.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Well yeah, but it was a snowball. Yeah, you know
it was. If you're not exactly ideal condition.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Especially for the offense, defenses should play better. I watched
the game. I really did, you know. I know you're thinking,
I socks and paint uhh, asphalt, But nobody.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Could get their footing.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
You know.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
It's one of those where you run to your left
and you got to kind of yeah, and then you
gotta go at that. So again, there wasn't much offense
for either team, So defenses, we're going to look good.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
I will say this, Tennaby.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
I'm hearing that it's possible this team might have a
Bowl game in Phoenix. And I've always liked DJ and
the club, and I really think they're on to something
here and they're moving.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
In the right direction.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
And that's a big bulgame. It's a really good team
and a really good program. And I don't know if
you have any time available, you know, I mean, I
don't even think what count of gains vacation time.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
But I'd be willing.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
I mean, for a game of this magnitude. As important
as this game is, we should be there well.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
And it's so important I'm and the program means so
much to me that I would also be willing to
use some of my vacation time to go there.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
I would donate that.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
How about you, and we'll go down and you'll get
there a couple days ahead of time.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
You can ring the tape recorder and.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Do some pre show interviews while I play over at
play over at you name it Scottsdale GPC, Scottsdale anyway,
news Broke.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
I think it was yesterday. I don't know when it was.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Lane Kiffin, son of I think Monte Kiffin has gone
to the great beyond. Monte Kiffin was a long time
NFL coach. I don't know if he ever was a
head coach. I know he coached here. Is like an
offensive or defensive coordinator for a long time. I think
it was defensive. Maybe Lane is his son. He's been
town of town, up and down the dial. He's with
Ole miss. I lost track of him, not that I've

(23:39):
ever been paying that close attention. And when when Deuce
and I are clicking around watching games, the guys, I
watched more college football than I ever had because maybe
brother Peter goes to the and I watched that game
this weekend, uh and Deuce went to go Big Red,
So we I watched a lot of college football. And
when we'll kick on Old Miss, I kind of look

(23:59):
I like the colors. I didn't know Lane Kiff. It
was a coach I didn't pay closer attention. And I
like this Old Miss club because I think Old Miss
has kind of been a downtrodden program for a number
of years. They're like eleven and one right now, they're
going to more than likely be invited into the twelve
team tournament. Lane Kiffin will not be there. He accepted
the job at LSU, and apparently if I read it right,

(24:23):
maybe somebody can correct me if I read it wrong.
He said I'll stay, and coach in Ole Miss said,
don't let the door hit you on the way back. Basically, sure,
I think they were BIG's. I would say, too, yeah, yeah, yeah,
you can.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
But the rules are the rules, and you are allowed
to leave.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
And you know, if if you're the athletic director of
that team or you're on you're the dean or whoever
makes those decisions, about allowing him to either stay or go.
You could be the bigger man or woman and just
say we're bitter you're leaving, but we think it's in
the best interest of old football to maybe win a
national championship if you're here, rather than just turn it

(25:04):
over to offensive coordinator. So I don't know if I
I don't know if I would say that now, you
might get a lot of pushback from I saw a
video of him getting out of a black suv and
get onto a private plane and there were fans flipping
them off as he was getting out.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Service fans bitter.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Yeah, but I think if I, and maybe this is
easy for me to say because I'm not involved, but
if I'm the ad, say yeah, we'd like you to
coach the team the rest of the way. We're not
happy or leaving, but we understand the way the game goes,
You're gonna people are gonna go Ole miss is not
a destination for a lot of people.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
We were lucky to have you for all these years.
You built up our program.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Again, we'd like to see you play this out and
win us a national championship. That's what I would have done.
But again, we get all too serious about a football
even though they do an LSU, the coaches fired, the
governor says, I'm not letting the athletic director hire them.
Say is that wor have I got the right school?
Or is that somewhere else? It's like, how ridiculous is
all that? It's just football? But they have nothing else

(26:00):
going form in Louisiana. Louisiana, I don't think. You know,
they got Marty Gras. I guess is the one they
got was that was that one.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
Week a year.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
They get Marty Gras we're happy for and they got
Lake Pontetree, and otherwise they have nothing going for them
down there.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
I don't think.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
And so and if I'm laying Kivivian, I you know,
here's the thing. I guess it's hard to turn down.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
LSU.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
It's they've the last four coaches they've had. I read again,
you know you can double check my my.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
Uh see how accurate I am?

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Three of their last four coaches have won national championships
at LSU ls they take their football seriously. And I'm
I'm assuming they've got boatloads of money. They got nil money,
they got booster money, they've got their stadium, like I
read a comparison between what they got going at Old.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Miss and what they're going at LSU.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
It's like the difference of what they have over at
TCO Performance Center and what they have at your average
high school in Minnesota. Really it's that big of a difference.
It's just astonishing the facility, how much bigger the stadium is.
The boosters of blah blah blah blah blah. But isn't there.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Something about building up Old Miss? Now he's been there
a while, so.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Maybe he's just bored with it, but he builds him.
I think I also read Ole Miss there was a
time that they were a dominant school.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
It was nineteen fifty three to nineteen fifty six.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
That's how long ago it's been since Ole Miss was
a football powerhouse. And so you've done something that hasn't
been done in seventy years or however lost seventy five years, whatever,
And you're willing to lead because it's easier to win
at Alison, and maybe you want it easier.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Maybe you want these you make more money, and you
make more money. I get that.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Hasn't a Lane made it that I was going to
bring up. But at some point, like you've made enough
like to move for it's a raise. I get it,
like thirteen million a years more than ninety a year,
and that's nice. But at what point are you just
like yeah, I just think it's hard, especially as football coach.
I Gause football. They have the most cliched coaches of

(28:06):
them all right, because you know before every game, guys.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Look at the guy next to you. You got to
play for him, you got to sacrifice for him. And
then the second you get a chance to leave on
your own up, I'm gone.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
Like that.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Your word means nothing.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Yeah, and that's trickled out of the players now because
of Neil they can leave too. And I don't blame
them either. You know, we talked about it with them.
With with Drake Lindsey, the possibility, I don't think he's
going to do this. I'm just throwing out, you know, possibilities,
examples and feeling wants to go on the pro level,
he wants to go play one. He wants to be
involved in an offense in what he is now declared
apparently his final year in pro football. And so people

(28:40):
leave all the time to go to green or pastors,
whether it's for for myriad reasons.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Some do it strictly for the money.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
Some do it for they don't like the organization they
play with, or their organizations are losing organization. They want
to play for a winner, and it's it's you know,
everybody's got to do what they have to do.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
But I was a feelings case. He's done after this year.
He admitted he's going to retire. He just doesn't want
to go out like this. Yes, right where you're just
riding the bench right up, playing out the string. You're
you're barely even see the field, barely see the ball
come your way.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Yeah you're not. I have no chance of winning. So if.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
If I'd love to see ole Miss with the I
think the offense it was either offensive or d I
think was offensive coordinator took over as interim coach. I'd
love to see Ole Miss and then they become my team now,
I'd love to see them make a push other than
I guess the I got to pull for thee because Pete,
did you watch any of the game. Michigan had a

(29:37):
six o lead, and it looked like Ohio State was
in a shell early again like they were the year before.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Last year.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
If you remember at the game. Uh is it Jason Day. No,
that's the golfer Ryan Day. Because his name, Why didn't
you just run the ball forty times? I think he
was afraid to throw the football and kind of started
that way. Michigan had a six zip o lead and
then they let the I'm not just saying I'm just
saying kid, I don't know his first name is, last

(30:03):
name is saying pieces. They have all sorts of you know,
play on words that people use insurant in Ohio State
for him. He's a Heisman candidate apparently, and he was
good and they're just too good that that team is.
I will I will tell you right now. I'm rubing
it up on Saturday. Number one Ohio State, Number two Indiana.
If you I don't know if you if you think

(30:25):
Signetty can coach, but google them.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
You'll find out.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Two undefeated teams playing for the Big Ten championship in
an automatic bid that now they're both going no matter
what right, they're both getting an invite. I mean, if
number one Ohio States lose Indiana, I don't think the
bull selection people are gonna go. I guess you can't
get invited to the top twelve tournament. You just lost
your last game to Indiana and vice versa. Those two
teams are so that pressure is gone of you know,

(30:51):
if you lose, you're not going to get.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Invited to the tournament. Should be a great game. If
it wasn't for.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
Pete going to THEE and me and you know it
spells my name at M, dad is at M, I'd
be rooting for Indiana because I rooted.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Oh really, yeah, okay, am I supposed to root for
Ohio State because your son goes there.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
When we go to Phoenix and I line up that
tea time, you might just have to pay your grade.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
I can afford my own golf faults. Yeah there, that's so.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
Yeah. But Lane's gone apparently, so then that's okay. I
I don't care enough, but it does. It just makes
But I really would did I did my argument sway
you at all? About if you're the in charge of
the old Miss decisions, you just call we get how
it goes. We'd like you to see this thing through.
Then yeah, we'll let you stay because we think it

(31:53):
gives Ole Miss the best opportunity.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
No, I don't think your players are going to play
for him at that point, Like like I just mentioned, right, like,
you're not going to give the motivational speech to your
players about you change your teammates being loyal and we
might you might be able to help. You know, you
can outplay call the other coach. I guess, but well
you well, you use a different motivational You bring an
interim coach that goes, oh this guy, this guy wanted

(32:19):
to leave you guys, huh, show him what he's missing.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Yeah, I guess you could do that.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
Yeah, I'd have brought him back. I would have brought
him back.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
I know, But I know I believe in loyalty. Yeah. Well,
but there is no such thing anymore in sports. There
just isn't. There's no such thing as loyalty. So so
then you would have to disappointing in college, I thought that, right,
But money's money.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
If a station across town offered a double your salary,
you're going to be loyal to the command financially.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
I'm not in the same stratosphres like Kipps. It's a
little different, but you're still a good spots. You're not
living checkay. I understand kids leaving for for nil money
because you never know when that money's going to dry
up for you, you got to get wall of getting's good.
Whereas Lane, he's already made generational money, he was currently
making generational money.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
He probably would gotten another huge contract. But you just
said you could buy your own golf ball. So you've
got money, You're okay, you don't need.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
There's a little bit different level of money between Lane
Keff and what I'm making.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
I don't think if you left it you wouldn't be lord.
Would you play out the rest of the year. Would
you go through the end of December so we can
finish on.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
I have an option at another place.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
No, but see, I you know it's funny. It's pants
about whose ox is being bored?

Speaker 1 (33:30):
So how it sounds like it is with you.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
It's like, see, if the shoe is on your foot,
it doesn't seem to fit quite as right.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
But that's another story in itself. The shoe's never been
on my footless problem. That's true too. So I saw this.
I don't know where I found this tennapee.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
But let me read some statistics to you, and you're
probably aware of these already.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Give me a second. I gotta go down to me
here it is the wall in Saint Paul.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
Yeah, he's unless these are these might be a game
old now, he may have played another game.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
So gus played last game. He played against Colorado on Friday.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
So these are up to date.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
He improves to seven h to two on the season,
including six oh to oh in his last six starts.
His thirty nine saves against the lanch And do you
say avs are lanch? I like both, Yeah, well, let's
go lanch okay his And I'd like to ask Rosen
does he pronounce it lanch or lache. His thirty four

(34:34):
saves against the Lanch marked the second highest total.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Of his career.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
He had forty two middle of the month, middle last month,
just past the middle month against Carolina. He now leads
the NHL in save percentage at nine thirty eight GAA
that's goals against average correctrect one point nine to three.
And he also leads a league in shutouts with three.
That's a goaltender man, he's yeah, and it's it's nice

(35:02):
that he's in the.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
Wheat and Green. No, what sure depends on what It
depends on what uniform they're wearing.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Uniform, but those are some and those are eye popping numbers.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Well, and like you get into a shootout and I'm
like convinced they win every time he's in the shootout,
like just no one can, no one can get one
by him.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Right.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
The one thing is ah, and this is this isn't
meant to be a negative.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
It's gonna be hard to keep that well.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Sure you know it's like my guess is there's gonna
be a game where he's not as sharp and maybe
doesn't get as much help and a little puck unluck
and he loses five to two.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
I hope people don't go, well, we got it.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
I knew that wouldn't last because it's gonna happen when
you're playing.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Yeah, it's just gonna happen, folks.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
But but when you know you got a guy that's
got that those abilities and has that potential, it sure
makes it easier to if you want to turn on
the TV or go to the hockey rink.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
That man you go in to a playoff series of
this kind of goaltending, well, I tell you that.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
That's exactly what you want to see.

Speaker 3 (36:06):
One more hour ago, will take a short break, come
back with one more Power of the Common Man program
with Tennabee in common here in the fan

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
