Speaker 1 (00:01):
I was down, but now I'm up, up, up up.
I was that sounds like, uh, not nas X?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What?

Speaker 1 (00:11):
No, Little Nase? Is that little nas X?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
That's not little Naskay.

Speaker 4 (00:16):
Let me give me two more guesses and then you
know you always do three. It ain't Snoop Dogg?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Or is it definitely not Snoop Dogg.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
He I didn'tk it was Snoop Dogg. It was it's
it ain't Pharrell? Who did? I'm gonna pop some tags?
I got twenty dollars in my pocket.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
What was the name of that dude?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Macklamore? Was that Maclamore? Not Macklamore?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Who is it?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (00:44):
Something called Connor Price and Forrest Frank. I don't know
which one's which one's the singer, one's the rapper?

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Did you say Connor Price and Forrest Gump? Forrest Frank.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
I kind of like it. I like it a lot.
It's well, first, it's different. We've never used it.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
I know that we used it once.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
We know we never did. I couldn't have been anything
this year.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Was I out that day or really not paying attention
because I don't pay really close attention. But I don't
ever remember hearing that I would have thought for sure,
I would remember that. What I like about it is
it's not too overly excited, you know, it's not like
nothing's going to stop as we can't do that first. Yeah,
I mean, I love the kid, and it was a
nice step forward. And how about this, you know, I

(01:31):
I I could sense a shutout was coming and I
and I tweeted this more of a question. Why said
was that a question mark or statement? I put a
question mark after in parentheses. It was the first time
in franchise, sister where you got shut out one week
and then the following week you shut out the other team.
And so it was a nice win. It's you know,
it's I don't look at a win's win. Am I

(01:54):
wrong that I wanted it close in a battle? Because
for one, any game I like close, it doesn't matter
who's playing, I ha makes it more more fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
And then because I want.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
To see the kid test test that was that was
a nice game.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Look, they threw out all the.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Mechanical stuff we talked about that, which I should have
done long ago. They matter of fact, when when they drafted,
didn't they know didn't they see it at the combin
and on tape and in college, and he his mechanics
were lousy.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Where did they go out and fix those in a day?
I don't know. But the coach totally.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Underestimated, overestimated how how ready the kid was, especially technically,
so they dumbed it down and threw, you know, did
a lot of tight end stuff and uh short passes
and running game, and he had a disinterested worship. That
team was disinterested I've ever seen a team. But that's
not the Viking's fault. Do you hear me say that all
the time. They don't put the team's roster together, they
don't coach them up, they don't do their draft, they

(02:48):
don't do the schedule. So it was nice, I mean,
especially after the way his career started. It's been absolutely abysmal.
I mean, well, we talked about his his numbers were
some of the worst in the history of the National
Football League, and he looked pretty good yesterday. He had
a nice quarterback rating, didn't throw any ins, had three tuddies,
not a ton of yards, but didn't need it because
you're playing within the confines of what they're calling.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
And uh, yeah, it was a nice one.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
When you have a running game on a defense.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Yeah, absolutely, with the defense really especially you know, they
kept Washington out of the end zone that first time
or was it the second time, and at that point
I think they kind of just threw in the towel.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
But yeah, that's nice.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
And like I also tweeted this, I said, this would
have been nice at the calendar red September eighth because
of what I think we all kind of were hoping
that would be that kind of performance.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Would be solid start to finish nothing.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
You know, I don't think anybody, and I certainly I didn't,
maybe others did, thought that he would come out of
the gate week one and just be brilliant for four
quarters and just like, wow, this kid, where's he been.
He's already he's already playing like a grizzle ten year veteran.
I knew there would be growing pains, but I had
no idea that you know, when you're thinking of growing paint,
you're talking about you know, training wheels. Hell, he was

(03:58):
on like a tricycle and there there were no even
there weren't even training wheels. There was that bad and
so but this is kind of what you wanted to see.
A stout defense, solid running game, and uncomp and that's
part of the ego of the coach wanting to you know,
all these coaches have it to Tennabe, Ben John, all
the offensive coaches McVeigh read.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Uh Lafleur, all of them. Watch watch how complicated I
can watch this cool little police. Look at this gadget play.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
I've come up with the little pop pass. You know
they had that was it? Who had the pop was it?
Chicago had the pop pass? That's what they called it,
a pop pass.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
Macarthury did one yesterday, macarthury. It was mccarthur did it.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
I think the Chiefs perfected that to begin with you,
the pop pass.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
So they do all these things, and it's like, I
have to show everybody what a what a great mind
I have, instead of going, well, that's great when you
got Mahomes.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Or you got Josh Allen, or you got one of
the you know, one of the you know Joe.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Burry, you you have a you have a a an
accomplished quarterback that's already what's the word I'm looking he's
already established, right, And then you can do those things.
You can complicate the offense up when you're bringing a
kid who came from a non passings. He wasn't a
pass Michigan is a run team, that's what they were.
He passed, but as we've talked about before a lot

(05:20):
of times, it was when just to keep the defense honest,
they're trying to stop the run. He made nice plays,
not taking away away anything he did in college, but
it was so different compared to what McCarthy wants him
to all of a sudden do that getting out of
the huddle with eight seconds to go, you know, having
all these different pass but nine or ten different options
and this, and the kid was over run.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
And then you're telling by the way you or not
you got to make sure your eyes and your hess.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
Week compared to the golfing stuff where you just can't
do that kind of thing. So it's all on the
coach for and the staff for doing what they did
to the poor kid. And because you know, I guess
he has to take some of the blame. He was
twenty twenty when I was twenty two years old. He says,
old as my boy, it's just amazing. And then they

(06:04):
want him to like a sixteen year old. Well, he's
closer to sixteen than anybody in the league.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
So that should be good and you know that that
they I guess.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
The running backs coach got credit for that. In the
locker room. I saw in a piece where he basically said,
you know they did. You know they always have to do.
Remember when they did the captain's meeting and each captain
stood up and said something and that inspired him to
a victory I think over Detroit.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
So we said, well, you can't go to the captain's
you know, pitching, you can't do that.

Speaker 6 (06:31):
You can't.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Well again, no you can't.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
So this one was go to the running backs coach
with his words of wisdom, and it was just played
like you're a kid again, which is like, remember I
said that about the Wolves the last week. I was saying,
just play. How are you not enjoying the How are
you bored? You only work six months out of the year,
you're multi minu're playing a kid's game. You won't You're
coming off back to back Western Conference finals and then

(06:53):
motivation to play hard and have fun and not be bored.
And same thing with you is you're playing a kids
game and you get paid big. How are you?

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Yeah, I mean I know I get it. You know
when when you whatever you do. There's probably people that think, Tennebee,
you should just be running to.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
The radio station every day you get to be on
the radio.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
None of those people saying they never worked with me
for twenty years, right, but you know what I'm saying, people, Yeah,
so you know it's like, Okay, I'll never forget this.
My boy was in his sophomore season at East rich Okay.
He had played in a couple of varsity games. But
what I like to call keep away varsity basketball, in
other words, games over both coaches empty the bench, right, yeah, and.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Then the team that's ahead.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
You're just trying to keep it away from the other team.
You're really not playing the store.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
It's JV guys against JV guys playing in a varsity game.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Right.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
The last two minutes, well, COVID came two starters families had.
COVID coach told Pete, you're going to play the first
half of the JV game. We're going to need you
in the varsity game. It was at home against Mi
Alma Mata Forest Lake, and I'll never forget Pete's about
to check into the game in the first first half
about eleven minutes to go, twelve minutes and I see

(08:06):
the coach kneel down and say something to him. Pete
nods's head and then they high five each other. And
then Pete goes in and played really well. Pete ended
up scoring twelve points on four for nine shooting, and
he hit all four swep all four or all four
Oh no, I think he went he missed one three
point they regardless the four or five three goose And

(08:28):
I asked Pete after I sing to coach saidie, he said, relax,
have fun and don't be afraid to shoot.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Just real, simplistic, not complicated. That's all it takes. And
then Pete Pete relaxed. He said, Yeah, I'm just going to.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Go and have fun and I'm not going to be
afraid to shoot when you when you're so you tell
j J.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Just go out there and spin it. Just just go
play football.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
They should have done that at the beginning of the season. Well,
it's it's it's I'm I think the coach thinks he's
Leonardo da Vinci and I'm gonna you know the right,
the great sculptor and artist.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Are you familiar with DaVinci Tennemy?

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Yeah, And I think he thinks hees the Da Vinci
of quarterbacks. It's like, dude, just let him play, and
he did, and so that's a nice step forward. So
maybe it'll work out in the end. Still have some
tough games coming up, but it was a step in
the right direction.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
We'll take a break, we'll come back peek at the purple.
On the other side of the.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Break is the coach scheduled for five thirty five, so
we'll we'll have a short segment next and then the
head coach of the soon to be Big Game World
champion Minnesota Vikings and his day for the Game news
comments right here roubble what we affectionately call f M
one hundred point three to fan.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
And we all remember that one teacher who made a difference,
who believed in us challenges or just made learning fun.
Now he's a chance to say thank you in a
big way. With Iheartradios think a teacher powered by donors,
choose nominated outstanding public school teacher who's gone above and
beyond for their students to win five thousand dollars to

(10:09):

favorite teacher now at iHeartRadio dot com slash teachers.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Won if McCarthy would nominate in any of the coaching staff.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Ways.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
They're loaded them with game plans and offensive theories and
and then try it on top of that. Oh, by
the way, you're not throwing the ball. The proper wearing
your footwork stinks here. All of this is that that
kid was cramming for as it called quantum physics.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
What is quantum physics? You got any idea? I have
no idea.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
It just sounds called a gym class.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Yeah, I think it is. It's it's it's it's it's complicated,
is what it is.

Speaker 4 (10:54):

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Oh it talking out guard, you know what's coming that quick.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
They're shockingly affordable, is what they are. I once again,
I'm a close circa to the listeners. I don't have
hip cricket, slash the bratch On bront Cafe and text
line available to me.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
I forgot that. I have to redo everything right.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
I got a I just forgot because it's it's a
recent development where we have to have a second authenticator code.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
We're a verification code.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
And Chad I was kind enough the corner's office to
set me up yesterday.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
He wasn't happy about it, but he did it.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
So I sent him a text at twelve oh two
as you were playing the montage, and I said, I
forgot about hip cricket.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Can you do a guy a favor for old times sake?

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Of course I get a response at twelve nineteen It
says old times sake. We just did this Friday. I
feel like I would be enabling if I did. Yeah,
enabling me? And you know I sent him the for
old times sake? Did you ever watched the movie The godfather.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
I actually haven't. Oh gosh, probably should, it's so good.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
And then Abe Vigoda, who played Fish, wasn't Abe for
GOODA the guy that everybody kept saying was dead. Remember
they're they're always Deadpool, And everyone was saying that Abragoda
was dead, but he really wasn't. Abragota was still alive
and well every now and then. I know it's kind
of hard to tell, but I'm still alive and well.
But a Vagoda needed to be off by the by

(12:58):
the court of the own family because double crossed him, right, I.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Do have the audio for that. By the way, Oh
could you play that?

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Is really good?

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (13:05):
Uh uh, I know what you're thinking, Bunker. You're thinking
that he fire six shots or only five?

Speaker 6 (13:14):
Now?

Speaker 7 (13:14):
To tell you the truth, I around myself and all
this excitement, but being this is the forty four bag
and the most powerful handgun in the world and will
blow your head clean off, you could ask yourself a question,
do I feel lucky?

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Well?

Speaker 8 (13:33):
Do you?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Bunk is a getting his brains blowed out.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
So Abe cut a deal with one of the other families,
and so he knew they were they were taking him
to Abe was going to go swim with the fishes,
and he looked at.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
I've seen the movie thirteen fourteen times.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
What was it?

Speaker 4 (14:03):
Red haired guy. I can't even think of the actor's name.
He's been in millions of things. I remember the character's name.
He was the concierge for the family. He looked at me, said,
can you let me off the hook? As can you
let me off the hook for old time sake? And
he says, can't do it.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
That was it.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
They took one.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
He knew he was going to go get off, so
he just got in the car and he left. They
never show him getting off, but they so I thought
Abba would do it for all times sake. But no,
he's treating me as if you kidding I double cross
the family. Can't do it. We're not the Corleone family here.
We're one big, happy family. Matter of fact, so happy.

(14:43):
I'd like to extend my congratulations the Part Morning Show
for winning the.

Speaker 5 (14:48):
Bracket sixty four early happy for Himah, congratulations, Really.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Well that was that was a surprise, wasn't it.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
I mean you're talking about a fan base that would
give Corey Cove ten million dollars for as Kickstarter and
when he wanted thirty fives. So if they're willing to
pay ten million dollars to him to get his game
up and running, you think they're.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Not going to vote for The Power Trip Morning Show
to win that thing?

Speaker 2 (15:14):
The fix was it?

Speaker 3 (15:15):
That's okay.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
I'm I'm I'm just well, I'm sure, pa, and I
know myself, and I'm obviously the Power Trip just happy
to be.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Considered. Sure, And we did get to the Sweet sixteen.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
You could argue we're more number two because we lost
to the eventual champions.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
You know, that's a good point. Or at least how
many more did they have to win after that too?

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Well, you lost him in the sweet sixteen, so yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
So we're at least six or four or whatever, you
know the tys math. This text message email came in,
so I guess I have to rely on emails because
Abbott doesn't want to enable me.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
And I guess that's.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Also depending on when we were eliminated in the sweet sixteen.
We were there one of the top sixteen or one
of the last nine remaining, right exactly?

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Yeah, I have to find that out. This is from
a long suffering Vikings fan.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
That's his moniker.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
He throws out McCarthy's numbers sixteen for twenty three, one
hundred and sixty three yards, passing, three tutties one one
twenty nine point two passer rating, first career game from
McCarthy without a turnover Skull.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
I think one of Koc's.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Miscalculations is trying to make the kid be a veteran
quarterback at the beginning of the season when he was,
by all intents while he was for all intents and purposes,
a rookie quarterback, and that confused the kid and almost
completely destroyed his confidence and almost caused the Vikings the
opportunity to have him be our long term franchise quarterback. Hopefully,
yesterday's a turning point, but Chaoc screwed up big time
at the beginning of the season, in my opinion, Signed

(16:53):
long suffering Vikings fan and Antennabie, I do tend to agree.

Speaker 8 (16:59):
I do.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
I've said that all along that I think they were.

Speaker 5 (17:03):
If you do agree with that premise, though, then the
actual take should have been they should have never started
with the jaj McCarthy. They should have went out and
got an Aaron Rodgers exactly right, which is.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
What I had would What was my take all along,
I had thought that that's exactly what the Vikings should
have done, and I thought, well, I thought they should
have kept Darnald. I really did, and I stick to that.
I know again I read it today somebody was either

(17:34):
fishwrap West or East or Athletic basically was doing the
bid about how you know, basically blaming Darnald for the
you know those you know, those two games last year,
because of those two games against Detroit in the Rams
last game of the regular season, the first game of
the playoffs. Well, you can't go basically, you can't go

(17:55):
back to him. And that's just so preposterous because if
that's your logic, then they should have everyone back to
McCarthy after last week's game or two weeks ago, the
last game he played when he was.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Awful before he got hurts.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
So come on, and it's like, but anyway, maybe we
are in the right direct, head in the right direction.
Let's take a break peak at the Pro Bowl, brought
to you by Affordable Electric. Affordable dash Electric dot Com
go there for all of your electrical needs. Head coach
of the soon to be he'll he'll uh his day
after the game news conference live from the New Winter
Park t Show Performance Center.

Speaker 9 (18:27):
That's next year on the fan he l l.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
I want to chime in.

Speaker 9 (18:55):
La la la la La Christmas still in duets.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I love it.

Speaker 9 (19:00):
It tis the season TV Jallie Fella La la la
la la la la tis roasted.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Chestnuts roasting at an open five.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Okay, my brother did the greatest Christmas Hits of Bob
Dylan as a stand up comedian thirty years ago. You
can find it on YouTube. It's brilliant. Just watch it
over Thanksgiving with him. I don't know how these things
end up in YouTube ever, know such thing as YouTube
back in nineteen eighty five or whenever he did it.
And what's cool about it is then Dylan did go

(19:33):
on to do a Christmas album like twenty years after that.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
It's pretty cool thing. That's why I got the whole
idea for the Dylan to Wed thing. That was for
my brother.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
We are waiting the arrival of the head coach of
the sooner to be Big Game World Champions, Kevin O'Connell
to address of the assembled media. There's a lot of
things to get to. Tennabee nostro communists nailed it on
Danny Dines. He's out for the year. You decided to
play a quarterback with a fractured fibula. He wanted to play. Well,

(20:10):
he's tough, he wants to play, so same thing, so bad,
I know, but you can't do that.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
I'll look at him.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
He went from a fractured fibula, which would have healed,
and you've been ready for next season right away. Now
he's probably out form a total calendar year with a
torn achilles. You can't play him. It's like what they
did to Wentz. They played Wentz that game when he
had a fractured shoulder socket. He had a what else

(20:37):
did he had three different body he had three three
different body parts, separated, shoulder, fractured, this, this, and they
played him and it's and that's to me, that was inexcusable,
But not nearly as much as what you did yesterday.

(20:57):
I saw the heighlight went I'm I'm watching ESPN on
the on the fifty five inch t Shiba Regza last
week and they're doing NFL stuff. They showed Danny Dimes
at Lucas Oil dropping back to pass. He's dragging his leg,

(21:18):
dragging it and I'm like, well, you can't play him.
He can't protect himself. And if you saw the highlight
of the he didn't even get hit. He just collapsed
because he was in no way, shape or form. He
was favoring the fibula, which probably puts so much pressure
on the achilles that he just snapped it.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
And now he's out.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
And you're right, that's why they played it because their
backup situation was so bad. But that's that's roster management malpractice.
You can't in good conscience send a guy out there
that's got a It's.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Not Jack Youngblood in the big game. I just thought
it was an awful thing. Now look what they've done
to the kid.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
So and like I say, that achilles, that can be
like a full calendar year.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Kind of thing, can it?

Speaker 2 (22:06):
Oh? Yes?

Speaker 5 (22:07):
So even like you know, Kirk Cousins came back from
and he still has never really been the same coming
back from that injury. Yes, whether that's the injury or
age related or change of scenery.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
But by the way, a couple thirteen fourteen people have
texted me because Mike, for all times sake, Abbot gave
me a break. He for old time's sake, he went
ahead and and and.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
He enabled you.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
He enabled me, is what he did. And he triggered
hip Cricket the bratch.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
On Brian kavanjexc I said, I can give text messages.
So he had unlit the Mafio, so onlight the Corleone
family that if you if you turn on the family,
well then that's it. There's no second ants. They you
swim with the fishes instead of letting the abbott. The

(23:07):
equivalent to swimming with the fishes would would be floundering
on the air right just trying to you know, gasping
for breath as I've got nothing, just playing playing intermission
music over and over and over again. Because I have
found I really rely on these text messages. I like
it's it's it's the connection between the listeners. It's wonderful.

(23:30):
And I have senior staff writers, junior staff writers and
contributors and all sorts of people.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Texting on on on a regular basis.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
It's it's nice to have and many people have said
the character was Tom Hagen, the concierge for the Corleoned family,
and David Duvall before he became a golfer, was the
was the actor David Duval actually was Robert Duval was
a playable part of Tom Hagen. It's you should watch

(24:01):
it sometime, Tennyby, it's.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
I would like to see it.

Speaker 4 (24:03):
Yeah, I mean, even though it was what's seventy one
seventy two, when you see the list of the greatest
movies of all time, it's still hold it's well, it's yeah, well,
not only that, it's still ranked as a lot of
lists call it still the greatest movie of all time.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
One and two. Three wasn't particularly.

Speaker 8 (24:25):
Here's chaosy our team yesterday three all three phases having
a contribution to win the game. Defense played well again,
got some turnovers, which was a real positive. Coincided with
us getting off to a fast start and having the
lead there. But I just like the way our team played,
the effort, physicality, the execution. There's a lot of really

(24:48):
good things that we can hopefully build off of and
looking forward to this week going to be a challenge
playing against a really good team. Senday night football, no
real injury news to a date on. Came out relatively
clean and should have a fairly routine kind of practice
week for a lot of our guys.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Is wearing women's underway at Harrison.

Speaker 10 (25:10):
Smith was talking about how your message resonated with him,
sort of connecting to his joy of the game. Just
for him personally. I know all these guys love football,
they wouldn't be here if they were, but how does
that sort of apply to him? Maybe differently his passion
for the game.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
He's probably not a guy that I mean it was.

Speaker 8 (25:29):
It was awesome to hear you don't I don't get
a ton of feedback all the time on different messaging
and over the course of the year, you're trying to
find different ways to connect with the guys. But but
now for a guy like Harrison and the football career,
he's had to have a message like that resonate with them.

(25:50):
You know, that's what That's what you're in this position
to do is try to week in and week out,
no matter what, find a way to reach your team
and you know, coach him and all alongside your staff
to give them. There's a lot of layers to coaching.
That's not just x's and o's. It's kind of the
relationship building. And then once you're to the place where
you you don't have their trust and you have the

(26:13):
time built up or they they are willing to lean
in when you have messaging for them.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
That's that's really what I strive.

Speaker 8 (26:22):
To do in this position, And regardless of what the
previous week or weeks have been like or what the
noise may be out there, I have a very important
job that I take very seriously due to those players
and the love that I have for those guys. So
I'm always going to try to figure out the best
path to helping those guys go out there and most
importantly have the joy of what you should have playing

(26:44):
for the Minnesota Vikings in front of our great fans
at home.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
I thought it was important for us to play well
at home.

Speaker 11 (26:51):
What does the fact that the game still mean so
much to him mean to him?

Speaker 8 (26:56):
I mean, it's he's I've made no secret of him
being one of my all time favorite people in the
league that I've been able to be around, not just players.
I mean his playing career speaks for itself. His impact
on the game yesterday speaks for itself. But just any
moment that I get with him, whether it's Friday mornings,
you know, in the in the one on one setting,

(27:16):
or throughout the week practice field, whatever it is, I
don't take a single one for granted, not just where
he's at in his career, but just he makes me
a better coach. He makes me, you know, have a
unique connection to this team through a guy that's seen
and done basically everything in this league you can possibly do.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Winning teams, teams.

Speaker 8 (27:36):
That have had to endure through struggle, you know, all
different kinds of teammates, and he still finds a way
to relate, at this point in his career to even
the youngest guy in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
So he means the absolute world to me.

Speaker 9 (27:51):
Have you learned anything from him?

Speaker 1 (27:53):
I know sometimes coaches can.

Speaker 8 (27:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, I just I think it's he's got
such a unique perspective that that sometimes as you weighe
through the waters of a season, you uh, you know,
it might be it might be something that I'm thinking about,
but maybe not necessarily connecting the dots the way he

(28:16):
can from his perspective as a player and a captain
and a guy that has led you know in his way.
You know, he's if we all can probably agree that
he's authentically hairy, and that's a really good thing for
all of us to be around. And and I know,
selfishly for me, I've I'm trying to, you know, soak
up every moment of that I can.

Speaker 11 (28:35):
I've never watched show What's about Jay's Day.

Speaker 8 (28:39):
Or just you know, decisive through you know, through the
ball pretty accurately, especially on some you know a couple
you know, the touchdown throw to Josh Oliver, the timing
of it, the decisiveness kind of got the look we
were hoping to get on the play and uh then
some of the third down completions that that really helped
us have a twelve minute drive and then kind of

(28:59):
a sneak key long drive there at the end to
be able to kneel it out.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah, just you know, I thought it was a really
positive day for him.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
First time full Off.

Speaker 4 (29:10):
Came together through.

Speaker 8 (29:15):
Yeah, the you know, not only those guys, but Josh Oliver,
c J. The play style was all over the tape.
We were consistently you know getting some knock back you
know into the you know, the defensive front and getting
runs started. I thought our backs were really decisive. Both
Aaron and JP ran really hard. They had great vision,

(29:35):
they found the space, and our receivers continue to do
a phenomenal job, you know against UH teams where you know,
in many ways historically, if we're seeing safeties activating in
the front the way they started to, we we might
go to a different area on the call sheet, but
we kept on just being consistent with being efficient in

(29:57):
the run game, which was.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Everything to us.

Speaker 8 (29:59):
I think, you know, you take out the kneel downs,
and I know there's some there's some kind of hula
hoops involved to get to what we kind of view
as the actual average per carry and all those things,
but it was it was a really positive day running
the football. And then I thought there was some really
great examples of protection. Those guys working together, even though

(30:20):
a lot of their time on tests together has come
on the practice field, not necessarily in any one of
our games up until this point, you could feel the communication.
I thought Ryan Kelly was phenomenal. Brian O'Neill was phenomenal again.
CD in there for up until we pulled him out
there at the end with some of the other guys
was you felt him from a physicality standpoint, and then

(30:43):
you know, Donnie for having you know, worked through you know,
an injury that might hold guys out for a couple
of weeks, two three weeks, maybe he would not be
denied playing the football game. Did everything he possibly could
and then played well in the game to go along
with will so.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Starts.

Speaker 8 (31:01):
You know, offensive football, when you can play that way
on the offensive line is normally gonna lead to a
pretty efficient day.

Speaker 6 (31:08):
You tied about living a little bit in the third
home world in the game and making those situations work,
because how does it affect you as when you know
the game might feed you to those.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Third down third Yeah, it's just you know, you you
have to have.

Speaker 8 (31:27):
You know, you have to have a pretty unique plan
from a standpoint of if you're not going to necessarily
generate a lot of explosives with with how you're playing,
but you are efficient, you're hopefully planning to have a
lot of third and five or less type of things.
We had some third and shorters where we're able to
get some more runs off and get first downs, scoring

(31:48):
on one of them in the red zone there with
JP on kind of the dive play but then you've
got to have an ability to when you're trying to
make a game plan friendly for the quarterback. You know,
it's a football, you know, there's there's a lot of
layers to it that you know, the words simplification and
all that, or it's getting thrown out. And if if

(32:10):
it was that simple, I would probably get a lot
more rest throughout the week. But you're trying to call
it in a way where you're continuing to maintain the
principles of how we wanted to play despite maybe some
of those sequences. The D and D is not being
on your side, and that's where it helps. When JJ
can you know, go steal us one there when we
were backed up on that twelve minute drive that all

(32:31):
started with you know, two runs and then a third
down scramble that he got us that first first down
and then we go ninety eight.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Yards for a touchdown.

Speaker 8 (32:40):
So decision making execution, no matter what you're calling, you know,
it's got to be it's got to be what it was.
And now it's just going to be a consistency factor
for all of us.

Speaker 12 (32:52):
You see from the Jay Ward head zach.

Speaker 8 (32:54):
Riz, Yeah, you know that's I hate I hate seeing
those things happen. Got a chance to connect connect with
Zach last night a little bit, just because you know,
I've I've I've had a relationship with him, but I've
always just thought the absolute world of him as a
player and just wanted to, uh, you know, connect with
him a little bit and in a very casual way.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
It wasn't anything significant, but.

Speaker 8 (33:21):
Just thinking about the rules that these defensive players have
to play with. I don't I know for a fact
there was no bad intent behind that that that play
where you know, things are happening fast out there, you've
got to be very aware of where guy's head and
neck area are on those plays. And and the unique
thing about that is it wasn't like Zach's you know,

(33:45):
kneet or foot was planted on the ground where you
see some of those injuries before he you know, he
left the ground to make a play and I was
still in you know, in the air when that kind
of collision happened.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
And like I said.

Speaker 8 (33:57):
I and unless we start shrinking the strike zone to
go along with the top side and start talking about
from the ground up and giving these guys a very
very tiny window to to try to make a play.
It's easy to play it back and slow mow it
and and and you know, start to you know, develop
hypotheses on things. But the game is happening very very fast.

(34:21):
I always encourage people to, you know, when you're down
on the field, to take in just how violent and
fast the game is, because you just hate seeing stuff
like that, absolutely, you know, regardless of you know, color
jersey or sides of I just I don't. It's the
worst part of our game and it and it's you know,

(34:42):
in many ways, I do believe it's unavoidable in certain instances,
and our job is to coach up the guys to
make sure if it is avoidable, to do those things,
not not only for their health, but for for the
other side as well.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
John fan Allen said.

Speaker 4 (34:55):
That Gink is a unicorn, and not only his talents
and his study, but the fact that he can discern
what's going on so quickly in process with what's coming
at him.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
About making calls play.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
That way, yeah, he can.

Speaker 8 (35:11):
It's not only you know, the post snap of what
he sees and reacts to, it's the pre snap of understanding.
He knows our call, he knows his job in the call.
He knows what might be the response to what we
were maybe bringing even away from him, where he's aligned
offensive formation, what types of plays he can get. He's

(35:31):
processing all that information in real time that then allows
the ball to be kind of moving slower for him.
When he's been able to now make a play on
those types of throws multiple times since he's been here,
he's been really close on a bunch of other ones,
and that's really really hard to do when you're that
close to the quarterback and you're making a play on

(35:52):
the football like that. But it's not just those plays,
so those are the ones we all kind of remember
and think about it. There's random second douns where he
just makes a super instinctive tackle or ends up saving
a you know, a game to keep it to three
or four yards, when he not only does his job
but then finishes, you know, helping out in another gap
here and there. He just he does so many things that, uh,

(36:15):
you really have to take the time to appreciate him
when you're watching the tape of what he's able to do.

Speaker 11 (36:21):
Kevin, there's the moment I think when JJ hits Jordan
for the twenty winger on the corner routs court immediately
kind of points a j I think from the ball
on the right side, and you see that, Yes, what
did that say to you about his years understanding progression?

Speaker 8 (36:39):
Yeah, I think you know he's Justin's the first progression
on the play. He he knows he's covered by a
defender that probably should be you know, as you draw
it up, probably in that area.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
And JJ in rhythm.

Speaker 8 (36:52):
Takes a second hitch and throws the ball to the
void and Jordan goes in and gets the gets the ball.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
So it's.

Speaker 8 (36:59):
Look, Justin has been I've tried to say this as
many times as I possibly can. He has been elite
from a leadership standpoint, character standpoint, being one of our
captains and guys that drives this organization. That's no matter
what the look on his face has been, That's no
matter what the statistical columns say. I can't say enough

(37:21):
about him. And that's just another example of it. I
you know, I know that that's been a kind of
a very unique topic and it's been a unique year
for him when you consider what the previous three have
been like. But was not surprised and I had the
same reaction on the play, So I guess that makes

(37:42):
him a coach on the field in a lot of ways.

Speaker 12 (37:46):
Ken, there was more than a few occasions yesterday when
when you guys were on defense, a player would start
to substitute, to turn around and come back, and a
lot of times it was guys that historically have not
really been part of rotation.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
What was that.

Speaker 8 (38:02):
There's a level to it when teams are you notice
they they weren't, they weren't huddling.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
Washington kind of uses a I guess.

Speaker 8 (38:10):
You can call it a muddle type huddle where they're
just kind of standing at the line of scrimmage and
they're subbing. And there's really no difference between getting in
a huddle and not at that point based.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Upon the rules.

Speaker 8 (38:21):
So whether it flow is changing personnel groupings with certainty
or a lot of times what happens is you know
you're seeing offenses sub and then maybe even sub again.
And every time that happens, you know, you could see
me on the sidelines doing that a bunch as well,
just because I didn't want the officials to get because

(38:43):
they do it every play, and then occasionally they'll go
fast and simulate going fast and then sub. So over
the course of sixty minutes, I think we can get
bored with it and you know, maybe our arms get
tired and we drop those things down before we've had
the illegal time to match substitutions. Because it's one thing
when teams are going, you know, eleven personnel to twelve. Okay,

(39:06):
we can, you know, but there was you know, thirteen personnel,
twenty three was extra line and it's then they go
right back to eleven and the defense deserves and has
to have a time to match that. So using some
of those guys that maybe would stay in maybe wouldn't
based upon the call. I thought it was a really
well well done plan to make sure that we had

(39:27):
the opportunity to match match the substitutions. And then they
got you know, on one of our turnovers. They got
us on one where we had had an injury and
a guy was in the game.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
That you know, wouldn't have been if we didn't have
that injury. So we ended up with twelve on the field.

Speaker 12 (39:42):
So that's basically just just to keep the offense from
able to go faster than they're.

Speaker 4 (39:45):
Allowed to go.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
Well, when they sub, we can sub, you know, and
that and that process. Now you can't you know.

Speaker 8 (39:50):
I had some communication with the officials about walking the
line towards having twelve on the field and when they
would deem we had twelve on the field. But yeah,
it was just, yeah, there's some unique things there, but
there's there's a lot going on there in that moment,
and that's part of it to just kind of, hey,
what are we in defensively, I'm still on my I'm

(40:12):
still on my my kick one of these days to
get the fourteen players in the defensive huddle during TV
timeouts out of the game as well, because I know
we were very concerned about the subbing on and off,
but it's very difficult when they can basically have Dime
Nickel and goal line defense in for the duration of
the TV timeout and then we come back from you know,

(40:35):
a couple of advertisements, and then we hit that ready
for play and the play clock starts and that you know,
I'll take another swing at that, I guess this year again.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
So did I miss the question about if you could
do it all over again, what do you force feed
McCarthy so much information? And did you not notice when
you were looking at him in the combat and had
him in for workouts that his mechanics were awful. That

(41:04):
question didn't come up. I don't think now. Maybe I
missed it because I was making my lunch. Maybe it's
been to asked previously. Hey, what is Harrison Smith mean
to you? All right, that's all right. What do you
expect him to say? Loves Harry? If you're being in
the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (41:21):
You hates him?

Speaker 1 (41:27):
He was asking, you know what about their love of
the game. What his response should have been.

Speaker 4 (41:31):
Go ask ask Harry that so anyway, one of the
salespeople here that one of the youngsters I like to
talk about.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
He's a huge Viking fan.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
He's asked me a couple of times, why do you
hate O'Connell's.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
I don't know. He's not in love with him like
everybody else, like a lot of other people. I don't.
I don't love or hate. I just I called him
as I seiz him.

Speaker 4 (41:53):
That's my job, which reminds me of an old saying
I just made up. I'll have that for the other
side of the break. Maybe not on the other side
of it, because other side of the very Tennamee's got.

Speaker 1 (42:02):
Five three four for us?

Speaker 5 (42:03):
Yeah, is the dynasty over
