I could have done any I could have done a
Christmas I could have done a Dylanto. What Christmas song? Acapoco?
You know what you do without music? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Come all, ye faithful? How about the timing of that?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
You just heard go for Update with Mike Graham and
you heard the head coach talking about how wonderfully born.
We're gonna get thirteen practices. We get to travel on it.
Well it's not really a vacation, but we get to travel,
get to kids, get to bond more, we get to
get a head start on twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
I guarantee you and you know, not every kid.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I don't know how many kids are on a college
football team.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Is it one hundred? Roughly?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Of those one hundred, how many do you think really
truly if you in a moment of you know, it's
the word I'm looking for off the record, Hey do
you want to practice thirteen more times, two or three
four hours a day, or however long the practices go
and nurse injuries for another two or three weeks to
(01:42):
go play in Phoenix against New Mexico in Again, that's
it's not leading anywhere other than if you win or lose.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I bet most would say zero interest. Zero.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Some probably do it, maybe seniors, and he did mention
the senior thing. There might be some It is their
last game. They're not going to be selected in the
National Football League draft. They have no interest in going
playing some minor league football, the Mid American Football League
that I used to be the commissioner of.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
But yeah, it's.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
There's a story Associated Press in a matter of our
Sunday would it appeared to be a year no teams
with losing records would be needed to fill out the
balls schedule suddenly changed one Notre Dame Iowa stayed in
case state announced that they would decline bids despite being eligible.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
There are forty one balls this year.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Forty one and eighty two teams won the necessary six
games to be eligible, but Iowa stayed in Kansas State
teams going through coaching changes almost simultaneously said they were
hanging up their cleats for the season.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Notre Dame, the first.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Team left out of the college football Playoff, followed a
few hours later. Mississippi State Rice both five and seven,
swooped in to accept bids, and they got in the
way the Gophers did last year. Tennaby It says they're
among the first in line based on their academic progress rate.
The Bulldogs will play Wake Forest and Duke's Mayo Bowl
(03:23):
in Charlotte, North Carolina. These are two teams. I don't
like each other very much. These two teams don't even
know where. There's not a kid in Mississippi State that
has any idea where Wake Force is even located. Where's
wake Forest in the woods. They don't know, They have
no idea. They didn't want to go. I just want
to go to class. I want to go to parties.
(03:44):
I want to party like it's my birthday, sip acarty
like it's my birthday.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
I'm just wild and young and free.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
We just played for we were we did spring practices
and we had summer training camp and we just.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Went through twelve games and I don't don't want to play.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
We're not any good. We're five and seven. Why are
you making us go to this game? The Owls will
face Texas State in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas.
Oh boy, I'd rather be an Amarillo by morning than
(04:22):
Fort Worth, Texas. Who would want to go to Fort Worth, Texas?
One of the date on that one is Armed Forces Bowl.
The Birmingham Bull after multiple five and seven teams decline bids.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
There are five and seven teams that at least.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Had the pride to say, we don't want to play,
We don't deserve to be in a bowl game. We
don't want to fill out a TV schedule. There's nothing
in it for us. The Birmingham Bull after multiple five
and seven teams declined bids on something.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
I got Appalachian.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
State, a bunch of Hillbillies, guys out of the mountains.
Appalachian State to accept an invitation to play Georgia Southern
in an all Sun Belt Conference matchup. These are two
teams that don't like each other much. Georgia Southern won
the regular season meeting twenty five twenty three November six.
The college football viewing public is clamoring for that game
(05:21):
rematch of a twenty five to twenty three game.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I can't wait tenn Toby, I might.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Have a party for the the what's.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
The name of the Birmingham Bowl?
Speaker 1 (05:32):
By the way, I looked up Armed Forces Bowl and
on their website they just have the logos of the
two teams that are playing, and I couldn't identify the locals.
I didn't know what schools they were until I just
searched further.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I was stay case, stayed.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
In the fighting Ivers weren't going to play in any
of those lower level bowls, but their decisions altered the
order of selections and presumably allowed three lesser teams to
move up and bowls at the bottom of the scramble.
Dame's decision to shut down for the year came after
was announced as the first team left out of the playoff.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Here's what they said on their social media site.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
As a team, we've decided to would draw our name
from consideration for a bowl game following the twenty twenty
five season. We appreciate all the support from our families
and fans. We're hoping to bring the twelfth national title
to Self Bend. In twenty twenty six, Miami got into
the playoff as an at large selection after moving from
number twelve to number ten in the final rankings. Notre
(06:31):
Dame dropped the spot will now stay home. And I
think Miami beat an Order Dame in one of those
first time.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
That's why you ever had to head you.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
I guess there was also a story that I think
I saved. Let me see if I can. Yeah, here
it is. Here's what Notre Dame said. Their athletic director.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Is Pete Mavaqua.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
He told Yahhoo Sports their Yahoo Sports.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Yeahhoo. There are going to be the main media contact
at the Appalachian Bowl, said.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
People of Akwa told Yaho Sports overwhelming shock and sadness,
like a collective feeling that we're all just punched in
the stomach. Shock and sadness, crying apparently that they didn't
get to play in the twelve team tournament. Although boycott
in a ball might be the exact reaction that many
Notre Dame fans wanted, it can't help the long term
viability of non playoff bowl games.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
There's too many ball games. And I know it's all
about it's all.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
About money, folks. This isn't a reward to teams.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
It's not.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
It's not in any way, shape or from that's not
what it is. That's how they sell it to you.
That's how coaches sell it to players.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
They really like us.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
No coach, they need eighty two teams for forty one
bowl games. They're taking five and seven teams. That's how
desperate they are for clubs. You look at the twelve
team tournaments. I had to look up who JMU was.
You know that is James James Madison. They've only been
in the FBS for three years. Five years ago they
(08:05):
were losing to the Bison in the FCS playoffs. Indiana's
number one. Why can't the golfers be like Indiana, or
at least even be like James Madison?
Speaker 3 (08:26):
How is that? Why is that?
Speaker 2 (08:31):
I've said this, and you know, now with all the arguments,
you know, this is what I told everybody was going
to happen to begin with, everybody I bounced the abduce
andduce things I'm nuts to and no one will agree
with me on this, and I understand why, but it
won't get me to change my mind. They should never
have had a season ending national championship. Don't even bother.
(08:53):
The mythical national champions is so much fun. You just
wait until the next day till the Supreme Court the
media members decided who it was.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
That's what we're stuck with. And now you're now again.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
And I tried to tell people twelve they went to
four and that wasn't enough, and I said it wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Be enough because the team that.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Feels like they're five, six, seven or eight or you
know what about us?
Speaker 3 (09:12):
And same thing.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Now at twelve you got thirteen, fourteen, we got an
ordre dame and another saying why aren't we in? And
if they went to twenty four teams, there would be
five or six teams twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven,
twenty gou why aren't we in?
Speaker 3 (09:23):
You're not accomplishing anything.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
And you know, I again, everybody, every season has to
have one champion, and I guess it has to be
decided on the field, the court, the ice or the diamond.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
That I understand that you got what you asked for it.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
I hope you're happy with it, because it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
All I care about is when the they get a
first round by.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
And they will play their first game in a couple of.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Weeks, well break, we'll come back more to get to
it's the common man program along with Tennabe here on

He is ten to be as a very controversial major
market radio.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Talk It's interesting.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yes, I'm I get my share compliments, but I get
plenty of complaints and people have no trouble letting you
know about it. But I have a philosophy tenab and
(10:55):
it goes like this, it's none of my business what
people say of me and think of me. I am
what I am, and I do what I do. I
expect nothing and accept everything. It makes my life so
much easier. So you can throw the brick bats at me.
(11:16):
I don't even know if that's the right phrase. I
wanted to use it. It's not gonna it's not going
to bother me at all.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
You know, we talked.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
We've been talking a lot over the over the last
few years about we're just talking college football. Just last
segment about college football, college is college sports in general,
about how now with nil money, name, image and license,
how it's it's really changed. I saw this story.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
I hope I saved it. It's actual coon. Uh here
it is. No, that's a Viking story.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Here it's from the athletic. What the athletic, I'm not familiar.
It's it's a baseball team.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
They're based out of Oakland and for now but for now,
but now I think they're playing out of sand Bernardino.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Denny.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
It's a gal though, because they always have the picture
with the with with the writer of the story.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Her name is Denny Alfonso. Headline.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Michigan State scores historic four hundred one million dollar donation
in athletics puss of course, Michigan State University secured a
four hundred one million dollar commitment from Greg and Don Williams,
with two hundred and ninety million earmarked for the athletic department.
The donation is the largest in school history, eclipse in
(13:32):
the previous record of thirty two million.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
That's walking around money apparently today to Greg and.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Down Williams, thirty two mil they're given four hundred and
one mill How did they.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Come upon the one? That's question?
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Round it off at four hundred or push it to
four oh five.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
What's the extra mill for?
Speaker 1 (13:52):
My guess is, knowing they are probably billionaires, there's some
sort of tax and sentiments. Once you'd have for four
hundred million dollars, there is a tax incentive of some sort.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Hold on brilliant, you're probably right.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
It eclipses the previous record of thirty two million from
Phoenix Suns owner Matt Ishbia. Wasn't he going to buy
the Twins? Or is he going to buy the Wolves Twins?
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Remember, and then he bailed out and decided to go
with the met smart man. That's why he's got a lot.
That's why he's got a lot of money. The four
four hundred and one million dollar donation consists of two
hundred and ninety million to Spartans Athletics one hundred million
to Spartan Ventures. That's a tax exempt nonprofit created to
bolster athletic department fundraising. So in other words, you're giving
(14:44):
a fundraising arm of the university more money to help
them fundraise eleven millions toward academic and extra extracurricular initiative.
It's just eleven for academics because that's not important. Who
cares about academics. A measly eleven million would have been
ten if they wouldn't have thrown in that extra one million,
(15:06):
because we idolize and pedestalize and worship at the altar
that is sports.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Sports. Sports is your whole life, just sports. So the
academics gets.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
It's the equivalent of money that falls out of your
pocket fumbling for change in front of the in front
of the vending machine. At a press conference on Friday,
Greg Williams, the co founder and CEO a financial technology
insurance brokerage company Acrossure, offered a message to university stakeholders.
(15:41):
He's what he said, set your expectations extremely high because
the support that you need to achieve what you want
to achieve, you have it here.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
It is no excuses.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Now the bar has been set so high to there
are no excuses for Tommy Izzoh, and.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
I can't name another coach at Michigan State? Can you?
Speaker 4 (16:05):
That's the only one I know? Can you name another ten?
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Me? For that one million of the four hundred and
one million dollars, can you name another Michigan stated for
the edit coach, I can't.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Don't think I can.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
He did not attend MSU, but he grew up rooting
for the Spartans in nearby Lanesburg, Michigan. By the way,
Tennebe he's become close friends with Tommy Isel. How much
do you think Tommy goes? I'm so glad he's my pal.
Think about that, Tommy'll think they're going to have the
(16:42):
best team in college basketball for years to come with
that kind of money two hundred ninety million ear marks.
And we know how it goes men's basketball and men's
football because they are the ones that turn down bowl
games and get invited to the sixty four team tournament
and generate all the income they get the Lion's share
of money, or the Spartan share in this case. Think
(17:03):
of how much money they'll have the equivalent of an
NBA team they they can think about it. Think of
how much they can offer of that two ninety they're
gonna probably get. The guy's close friends with Izzo. My
guess is now that now, once the university gets the money,
they probably can de divvy it up anyway they want it.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
I wouldn't think there's any, but maybe maybe maybe there are.
You know, there are some what's the word I'm looking for,
loop not loopholes, but there are some I know you're
talking about.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Yeah, you know that.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
You know when of that money, this, this much you
have to spend with Tommy Izzo. Let's even say Tommy
gets one hundred million. How big is your basketball roster
you need? You need to go eight deep right in
college basketball? Nine but I'm just saying eight deep, and
then you fill out the rest of the roster too,
but eight We pay those guys a couple three million
(18:01):
dollars a year. They're all in, you're gonna get every
good player.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
We're finally gonna have a superstar coming out of the
state and he's gonna have a decision between Minnesota and
Michigan State and he's gone.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
The two hundred and ninety million dedicated to sports marks
a strong beginning of the Athletic Department's one billion fundraising kit.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
They need one billion. It's like Jerry Lewis, Lady.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
This fundraising campaign, will they cry like Jerry Lewis, did
you know he was raising money for muscular district you
are worth worthwhile cause not padding.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
And I like athletes getting money.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Trust me, I don't think the networks and the universities and.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
They shouldn't be getting all the dome.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Strong beginning of the athletic departments one billion dollar fundraising campaign,
which a school unveiled earlier this week with a promotional
video introduced by Spartan's all time great and Lancey native
Magic Johnson. Let's get Magic to do the thing for us,
because Magic, oh.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Oh, it's magic.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
The donation arrives as Michigan State adapts to the capital
requirements of modern college athletics.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Particularly football.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Adj Batt dismissed coach Jonathan Smith on Sunday, which means
Universe will buy out the remaining years of Smith's guaranteed contract.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
For roughly thirty three million dollars.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
We couldn't name a coach now except he's not the
coach anymore.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
So they got that money. Think about this.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Before they were like, if we buy him out, we
want to fire him.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
He's terrible.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
But then we got to pay thirty three million dollars.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
We don't have that kind of money. Now, what's easy.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
It's good to be Jonathan Smith you're not a coach anymore.
You've lost your job.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
But they're writing you check for thirty three million dollars.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
I don't need to coach anymore for thirty You know
what I do. Take the thirty three million dollars. I'd
coach some Pop Warner team as a volunteer.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
That's what I do.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Is Oh, praise the magnitude of the Williams of donations.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Of course he did.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Why wouldn't he You think he was going to say,
you know, I really don't like money in college athletics.
I'm really disappointed. We're not going to accept the dying
from my good friend, the Williams's.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
He says. The DNA is to win championships.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
The DNA is to be the best, but possibly can
The commitment you made today will certainly propel us towards
the next championship.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Oh you can. Money can buy you championships. Then to
be in college basketball. So there you go. Good luck
to the Gophers. Do you think.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Nico Medvett hasn't really well healed friends?
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Just think if he had a friend that was worth
that kind of money, he had a four hundred million time.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
He needs to become friends with Corey Cove.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
That's what he needs to do, and then you know
what he can go on that inclusive cruise at all
at all, that all expense paid cruise, have the powerships
take him to win.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Bracket sixty four.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
We'll break come back one more segment to go Common
Man program on the fan, Hey Rubs.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
This football season, Bellbank is getting one Cafe listener each
week one thousand dollars to pay forward to a charity
of their choice. Just sit over to Cafe dot com
Keeper Contests and learn more on Enter Today. That's KFE
dot Com Keeper Contests.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
A couple thirteen fourteen past on Comedies tena b last
segment of the h we turn it over to a
big ticket in JG there next. They're here till six
thirty tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Are we back now? As Nigo Medvedez should be at
twelve now?
Speaker 2 (21:40):
And I think it's the Nico medved Show Echo coming off
a big win. Oh they beat I don't think they've
played since a upended number twenty two Indiana Nico Medvit
Show twelve noon tomorrow and then we're in at one.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
The legendary Mark Rosen joins us at.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Two received a an inter All office email Tendabee about
our upcoming office remodel.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Yes, boy, it looks nice, a little cramped.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
It's kind of like going from a deluxe apartment in
the sky.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Basically, or we're downsizing. We're downside.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Looks like it's maybe a college dormed.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Off. The small might might even lose it.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
But there's two phases, I'm told phase one where they're
going to redo the mail room, copy room, uh, kitchen,
all storage areas, closets, rooms need to be all cleared out,
have a new performance.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Student's pretty cool. It really looks nice.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
During phase one of the construction, all workstations, slash offices
remain in place. But now it's a good time to
start clearing out personal atems to prep for phase two.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Sales, floor.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Studios, offices, and personal desk spaces. I finally, after thirty
plus years here, getting office, and now it's being taken.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Away from me. You've got to be kidding me.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
I moved into my new office. Was it the September?
Speaker 3 (23:27):
I believe is that it is a couple of months
August or September.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
I'm what was that old bit we used to do
is I'm I'm privty some to some numbers that are
very What was that bit I used to do about numbers?
Speaker 1 (23:53):
It was the mowerschev Yeah, come across some numbers, or yeah,
I have.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
Some numbers that I'm mighty impress.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
We get report cards four times a year to see
how well we're liked, how much we're listened to by.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
The by the listening public. Maybe this is just a
coincidence to to me, but we've had get ready. I
don't you can use either horn you want.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
We have our best work, at least according to the listeners.
We've never had as many listeners in the past three
months than we've ever had.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
I'm about to say something controversial.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
That's interesting, Romney Obama.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Our growth and numbers coincided with me getting a new office.
Whether one had to do with with you with one
with I want to have anything to do with the other,
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
But don't you think it's a little short sighted?
Speaker 2 (25:07):
After the growth we've had, the work we've performed, and
now you're taking my office away where I spent countless
out because maybe I guess I don't spend a lot
of time in my office scratch everything I do.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Why are they taking my office?
Speaker 3 (25:29):
From me.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
I was just starting to get accustomed to having one,
and now it's going to be gone.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Well, they'll see more of you in the corner's office. Then,
oh yeah, that's ow.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
They already see a lot, so.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Don't complain about that. That's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
We lost to the last Have we turned into the
Minnesota Timberwolves? Have the Wild turned into the Wolves? Dateline
Vancouver the while they're on a new streak. There's not
guy there he used to have, and they fumbled an
early lead against the last place, last place Canucks, who
rallied four to two on Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
At Rogers Arena, Oh Rogers, to give.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
The Wild back to back regulation losses for the first
time since October twenty second through the twenty fifth.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
By the way, the Canucks were last because the Wild
had lost the previous game to the team that wasn't last,
but that he jumped over Vancouver Calgary.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
The Calgary Leapfrogs. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
John Hines, head coach, says, from an efforts standpoint and
then an intensity standpoint, when you look at the overall game,
in any measure, we probably deserved a little bit better
than we got tonight.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
He went with the basically they all played him. Yeah,
he went with that, so did Zee buyam? Is it Billiam?
Bullyam William.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
We worked a lot harder than Calgary than the Calgary game,
for sure. Remember the Calgary game. We have to take
them to task because apparently they were lazy. We worn't
a lot harder than the Calgary game. At times, you
probably could have caught a coup more.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
A few must have.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
I think they meant to say few, but it says
Coo Upe that that's like a chicken coop to me.
I don't know, but I mean the first we had
so many chances.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
If those go in, maybe it is a different game.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Eco's term said, if we're up two oh three to
zero after the first, this game is going in completely
a different direction.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Well, yeah, you keep me do it. But I don't
know if you want to get out to it too old.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
I always love that one. I think you want to
keep it. Scores.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
They got to the lead, and as you read, they
had multiple chances odd Man rushes, back door passes in
the first period that they didn't capitalize on. And there
is something about the NHL when you go an entire
first period of just control only play and have lots
of chances, but don't capitalize that always. I don't know
what it is about that league. It always comes back
(28:05):
to by you.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Is it Villander or will Ander? God?
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Sure, it says At nine twenty nine, Villander went top
shelf through traffic to net his first goal, which was
the first goal Walstead Valstad allowed on.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
The wild road trip.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
I thought Middleton misplayed that one a little bit. It
was a two on one rush and he allowed the
shooter basically to go right down the middle, right like
you want to keep the shooter to the outside, and
he was playing a little too much pass. Once the
shooter gets to that spot on the ice, you gotta
you had to challenge him a little bit.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Next up was Peterson, who connected on a point shot
after a face off and win at eleven forty six.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Valstad he blamed himself.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Sure he's accountable, he said, quote, I just got to
fight through the screen a little better. I thought I
got stuck behind the screen a couple of times where
I just couldn't catch the release, and that makes it hard. Now, Tennabe,
I played hockey might not under certain when he talks
about him. I could explain it, but then he gets
too what's the word I'm looking for? Gets too technical?
(29:12):
You know, I don't want to get to Yeah, I
just I don't want to Yeah, I just you know,
then it gets too you know, it's hard to follow,
too wonky, gets too wonky. But he said he got
stuck by the screen a couple of times, or I
just couldn't catch the release, and that makes it hard.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
He says, I felt like I just didn't give us
a good enough chance to win out to throw them,
the other guys under the bus. They're screening me.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
They can't clear the front of the head. How the
hell am I supposed to stop a goal? Need better
defense on that? No, But so he you know, he
took his share of the blame again. I wanted to
ask you patience then then then?
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Or panic? How do you feel right now?
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Well, I think I've mentioned this now for the third
time in the last week. Like when you hear last place,
you assume that the other team is a really really
bad team. I just don't think there's right. There's not
a really really bad team this year, and other than
cow other than Colorado, there might not be a really
really really good team. It's just a bunch of teams
that are all kind of packed together, and there's a
ton of parody, so it sounds worse than it is.
(30:25):
The color game they got out class. They did not
look good. Vancouver. Definitely in the first period they were
by far the better team, and you could even argue
throughout the game. You know, they only gave up sixteen
shots in that game. If you're playing in the NHL
and give up sixteen shots like you should be able
to win hockey games.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
It was just.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
The beauty of the sport, especially once you get into
playoff time, and sometimes you have a hot goalies. Sometimes
you have a goalie that's not doing as well the
other goalie. Even though I barely ever heard of the
guy and he sounds like he's a rookie who's played
very little action in the NHL. He made some big
saves and looks good and kept his team in the
game and they overcame by the end. But I'm not convinced.
(31:07):
You know, if the Wild keep that effort and that performance,
they'll win more games than they lose.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Somebody named Raddy or Retie r a t Y. I
think he had two goals, did it? It was one
an empty net or though I don't even remember, it's
hard to remember the game. But yes, Rady added another five.
Oh no, you know he added another, so his first
one was not. Rady added another five h nine into
the third when he picked the puck off Volsted behind
(31:35):
the net and back candidate.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Yeah, that was increasing.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Balstad said, I should make a play faster, just get
the puck out of my hands.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
When that happened, it's a lesson to be learned and
move on from.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
So again, that one was all on the goal. Yeah,
and he's taking the life. He's not trying to say,
turn the buck over behind.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Me, had I had?
Speaker 2 (31:52):
I had a rock in my shoe, you know, or
you know, the sun got in my eyes. He didn't
offer of an excuse. You I was squinty, I wasn't
chewing my gum. Confidently, Hind said, we didn't capitalize in
the chances we had. I thought we carried play most
of the night. We didn't get rewarded for the effort
we put in offensively. And then we had a couple
(32:13):
of self inflicted wounds. Those will get you every time,
the self inflicted on Yes.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
And the all said was the worst of the self
inflicted wounds. We also call that shooting yourself in the skate.
That'll happen sometimes.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Well, it's funny how things can change. I mean the
Wild warre twelve one on one in November. They're so fine,
but look at the National Football League on November two,
the Colts were seven and one, and then you see
all those playoff prognosticators and it's like ninety chance making postseason.
Right now now they're like at twelve. They've since then
(32:50):
since been seven and one, they're eight and five. The
league should investigate playing Danny Jones. They should never you
don't play a quarterback with a.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
And here's the by the way, it's official today an
sense right.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
So I was beside myself when I saw the video
and the last Thursday we're watching it was Thursday or Friday.
We're watching a video from from Colt's practice and it
says Danny Dimes expected to play, and it shows him
dropping back to pass and he's dragging his leg like
(33:24):
you ever watched Boris Karloff as The Mummy nineteen thirty
nine or forty one, whenever it was frightening movie. In
the Mummy, he dragged one leg like this, he looked
like the Mummy without the rappings. And I said on
the airs and what you can't play him? They played
(33:45):
him and now torn Achilles out probably for full calendar year.
They they didn't do it, and he was dragging his
leg before it's the injury. Yeah, they they they watch
what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, and it's like.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
You should never played him.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
They did him an injustice and then they did the
franchising into the Hook and then here's what I'm told,
he doesn't have a contract for next year.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
You know that.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Yeah, that's a bad I'm very Unfortunately, he was about
to make a lot of money. He was he was
probably gonna get one of those same Darnold contracts, right
those three years thirty three million dollars a year.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Why did he insist on? Well, you know what, because
it's part.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
Of the culture.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
You ever watched the movie North Dallas forty tennabee?
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Have you ever heard of it? Only three?
Speaker 2 (34:30):
You?
Speaker 4 (34:31):
North Dallas forty?
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Was Nick Nolty? Did Jerry kill coach there? Yes? He did? Okay,
Nick Nolty. I can't think of the country singer's name.
Just sixteen and out.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Of control lost James Dean and rock and what was
the name of Can you just google the movie now?
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Why can't? And I think I can see him?
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Country and Western singer became an actor, did a really
good job. He played Don Meredith in the movie. It
was based on the Dallas Cowboys. That's why I was
called North Dallas forty Was it mac Davis? Davis, That's
who it was, Mac Davis, Nick Nolty, Macdavis. I don't
know who else was in it.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Steve Forrest, both Svenson, Yeah, Charles Darning.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
There's a great scene between Charles Darning and mac Davis.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
You have it.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
I think the audio for it.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Oh yeah, let me as I've talked about this is
this is Derning and mac Davis in the in the
climax of the movie, in the locker room before the
big game. Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
I know what you're thinking. Funk, You're thinking, did he
fire six? Shots? Are only five?
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Now? I tell you the truth.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
I forgot myself and all this excitement, But being this
forty four Magan the most powerful handgun in the world
and will blow your head clean off. You could ask
yourself a question, do I feel lucky? I'll do you.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
North Dallas forty and it was about players playing through
pain and taking injections to play.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
You gotta play, and that's kind.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Of what that is.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
I'm sure they they Well, it sounded like they were
trying to force him by gunpoint to play.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
It's just hurting that clip. But they didn't.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Danny Jones, you you know, he wanted to play because
that's what you're supposed to do.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
In the national football be a tough guy.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Well, now he's out for the year, no contract, He'll
probably just be discovered. I mean, I would hope the
Colts would do well by him and sign him to
a deal. But if you're the franchise, do he I mean,
does he come back from the Achilles? He probably will do.
Most people come back one Achilles or not.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
It's isn't it. You never know.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
I mean, you know, the quarterback, now, Daniel Jones does
depend on his mobility.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
That's part of right his skill set.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
But generally speaking in quarterback, you know you can you
can kind of get away with just you know, being
a pocket passer.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Yeah. So I don't know why they they played them,
but I guess they did, you.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Know, Luckily for him, at least he did get paid
big ones. So yeah, he had a four year, hundred
and sixty million dollar contract. All right, well they ask you,
but I mean still right, he would add another one
hundred million, but the season he was having and then
probably with the Colts.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
Probably with the Colts, and then we just mentioned how
quickly can change. They were seven to one on November second,
now of the eight and five, and they ain't gonna
make the.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Play They're not gonna make plans now.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
The Bears going into yesterday's game in Green Bay, they
were the number one seed in the NFC. That one loss,
they dropped to seven. Did you see that they're now
the seventh seed. Yeah, now that doesn't that's just week
to week. That's why though, the power rankings and the
playoff probabilities, they're all kind of silly to look at
because we just don't know how every game. You have
to wait for the games to play out and listen
(38:06):
to the final gun and then look at the whole
weekend to see where you're at. But yeah, they went
from the number one seed. If the playoffs, it's let's
say that we're at the end of the season another
the seven. Now they should still make the playoffs, I
would assume I don't expect them, but you don't know.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
You know, the lines are one game back and they
play each other in the lines of well the tiebreaker
if they win that game, that's correct.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
So it's dicey.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Well, here's the toughest one for the lines. I think
they're all tough. There's not to take anything away from
from Chicago, taking anything away from the Vikings and who
else to the Rams game is.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
The tough one. This weekend at Los Angeles, that could
be a beatdown game.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
The two former quarterbacks that were swapped facing each other,
and just like they did back in the NFC Championship
game in no that was San Francisco. They lost you,
that's right with sanbra But just so, and they're playing
at Los Angeles is playing at a whole other level.
So I would expect a loss there. And then I
(39:06):
can't remember who Detroit as they have Chicago and Minnesota
and who's there, Oh, Pittsburgh. They have Pittsburgh, so it's
it's it's.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Lost homes this week at Minnesota on Christmas, yeah, and
then at Chicago. So I just expect them to lose.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
And if they came at the ends gonna be I
think ted well, that's its winners in the playoffs, loser
goes home.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
He could very well be a game. Yes, and the
Vikings are playing spoiler. You know right now, math mathematically
they're still remember they're playing spoiler and they already beat
Detroit once. I don't have a lot of hopes for
my for my club. Of course, I didn't think they
were going to win last week against.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
Dallas either, So we'll just have to see how it
plays out.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
Boy, that music means it's over.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
How much? How time flies when we're killing time? Thanks
