Speaker 2 (00:18):
It's going to be We've been talking earlier about Adam
Feelin assigning with Pittsburgh and that he had his choices.
I don't think that's correct. It says waiver period. After
being waived, a players placed on a waiver wire for
a set period, typically twenty four hours during the season.
During this window, any of the other thirty two NFL
(00:38):
teams can submit a claim to acquire the player. If
multiple teams play a claim in the same player, the
team with the highest waiver priority gets the player.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, that's what I said. I'd said.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Oh no, but I said, guys, say, I thought you
meant that he didn't have a choice.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
He could go wherever he wants. No.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
No, what I said was it's a waiver claim. So
but a team is going to talk with him before
want to claim on him, right and make sure he
wants to go there?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Oh, I see what given his situation that you know
it's his last hurrah, he want you like they're not
just going to claim them Waver just want to be there.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, okay, see what I thought. You just meant that
he could say, now, Pittsburgh, no, thank you. He could
kind of pick and choose who we wanted. Because I
wasn't sure. I thought maybe that was the rule, but
I just I did somebody who had tried to clarify it.
So he is with the Pittsburgh Steelers, hoping you get
to a big game in Minnesota, gol to go for
football team or basketball team.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Last night, they act like they actually want.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
To play these games, and it's it was refreshing to
see that from a local basketball team. They and they
were up against there playing number twenty two, three starters out,
including their.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Starting point guard.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
And they they came and they they played basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Maybe they beat court storming even well. I caught the
second half and I and I honestly I had forgotten
they were playing. We talked about it went, oh my god,
that I heard listening to Grim of course on these
area airwaves. That's such a wonderful job played by play.
He's terrific. H he's a national treasure. But you know, yeah,
I raced home and the Gophers were I think they
(02:11):
were nursing a six point light, seven point late, and
then you know, Indiana cut it and I put it
on and I was glued. Really, it was fun to
watch the Barn kind of come alive again for their
first Big ten game, and for Nico medved a big day,
a big moment for him, and the Gophers showed a
lot of composure. I mentioned you for the break. I thought,
even when they didn't score, I thought that the flow
(02:34):
of the game from Minnesota looked so much smoother than
what I've seen in a few years. Even if they
didn't score, Uh, they just had great movement outside, They're
passing the ball. You like this Gophers club. Well, they're
not going to win a lot of Big ten games.
I mean, I mean, I guess, well, look at they
I shouldn't say that. They just beat Indiana. Now next
(02:54):
week they have to play at at number one, not
one in the Big ten, one in the country. I
think Perdue's number one one, And yeah, they want expects
to win the game. They'll be obviously double digit, and
they don't. They do not Zach Edy is now in
the NBA, but you know they're they're it's gonna be tough.
(03:17):
I mean, they lost some really good players. He's in
the NBA. Awesome Isaac. He had to move to the
point guard position. And you know he's with Cherry Minnesota.
Is that where he's from. Correct. I like the kids composure.
I like the way he played last night. They you know,
they get some guys that you know, boy played hoops
with them, the kind of get to know them. I mean,
(03:38):
I think for golfer fans, you know, it's it's a
whole different team. Uh Medved's got to, you know, make
some move. They only had I think like seven healthy players.
So a very good game. And you know the court
storming thing, I mean to me, and it wasn't like
it was excessive and people going, oh they it's just
kids running on the court and it's just let him
have some fun. I just I find it kind of like, oh,
(04:00):
it's not worthy of storming. And the word storming is
a little It's not like they were, you know, tearing
down the hoops. They just stormed the court. They ran
well the court, and it's not easy to do with
Williams Arena because they have an elevated floor, so you
got to be you know, it sounds like you're apologizing
them for storming the court. No, I'm accepting it. I'm
(04:22):
I think that's you're saying.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
A lot of people would say, why would you storm
the court in the first Big Ten game against numbers?
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Because they've they've watched this Gopher program the last how
many years? They haven't had much to celebrate. It's just
it's not a big deal. It wasn't like they stayed
on the court and were destructive and went on. Then
they slapped a couple of kids on the back and
they had fun. What's wrong with having fun? Let the
kids have some fun. It wasn't like a you know,
usually for a year. For decades here, when the Gophers
(04:48):
were packing Williams Arena, the best seats in the house
were taken by.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Me.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
The goal that I would sit press box, you know,
down below looking up at the floor. That's where well no,
but I mean I was always sitting next to near
sid We will be yelling at the officials the whole game.
And he would do it. He would never know him
by first name, and he'd yell at him anyway. What
I'm saying is the students would not would be upstairs
most of the time. Now they got him downstairs, and
(05:16):
I wasn't a big deal. And I you know, it
was nice to see. Uh, you know, I think it's
Andy Katz did the interview with Nico right after the game.
He got a little emotional because he you know, he
was one of those guys in the stands not that
long ago. So a nice win for him, and uh,
they don't have to apologize for it, and it's gonna
be tough to you know, in the Big Ten. And
uh but I like again, if you watched the game
(05:36):
last night, if you watch the way they moved the basketball,
uh play, you could tell they'd been practicing exactly what no.
I meant, the way that Nico wants them to play.
I mean, they've been up They've been pretty I don't
use the word stops. You like this guy, don't you. Well.
I just I like the way the Golphers responded last night.
I'm not even talking about just the win. I like
(05:57):
the way they played the game. I mean just fundamentally
just played the game basketball last night. I just they
really were in sync with each other, and that's something
that we haven't seen for a little while. So kudos
to them. Have some fun, enjoy it. You gotta go
get probably get waxed at Purdue next week, and you know,
I don't know how they're going to make up for
the loss of their starting point guard. But you know,
(06:18):
that's just the way life goes. He can't bring somebody
up from the miners. Were sure zach Dy doesn't play
guard anymore. I'm positive that Jackie he does not play
for Purdue. He's in the NBA. Who's he played for
in the NBA? I can't remember. Memphis? Who I don't
get draft in the first round? Yeah he did. I
never I didn't think that would happen. How many times
did he win n C double A Player of the
(06:38):
Year twice? Right, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
You're the expert. You had to let the liber audience knows.
You can't pull the wool over Mark's eye.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Well, I mean you thought he was still Purdue. Of
course I didn't. That's my bit. Oh, he does play
for Memphis. Was he big ever Player of the Year
two years in a row?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Kind of?
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I don't know. Well, he said he was. He said
it with confidence. Well, I mean only because most times
guys don't stick around for that extra year. It looks
like he did two years in a row, three for
three and rest my case. Anyway. No, he's not, Uh
he's he's what was Frank Brimsy's nickname, mister zero. See
(07:25):
there you go. See you're the sports that I didn't
do the meat sauce thing I was. I actually listen
sports authorities, I was. I didn't know that before you
mentioned it. I may have heard it years ago. But yeah,
mister zero and the Wolf, the Wolves, uh they also
mister zero for a different reason. Uh, in the wild
play tonight and they don't. Mister zero will not be
(07:45):
playing tonight. Dobby and Calgary they're they're they're.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Just going back and forth. One Gus one day and
then the Brimsic the next Gus one day.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Brimsic. Well, they're playing a bad team tonight. They should
they you know, hopefully aren't gonna let up.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Worst team in hockey. I think Tenn said at least
Reco the worst team in hockey record.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Yes, no, I feel like there's more parody this year
than there's ever been. Definitely after Colorado, Yeah, yes, after
Colorado it's eeming like the Wild. I mean, the Wild
currently have the third best record in the league through
third place. They have you know, they're fifteen seven and five.
If you think about that, you've won fifteen games, you've
lost twelve, and they have the third best record.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Obviously, it's you know, when you're losing an overtime as
opposed regulation, that changes things. But I feel like there's
a lot of parody this year because a lot of
those bottom feeder teams that we've seen in recent years,
the San Jose's, the Chicago's, the Anaheims, their young cores
are now starting to get better and they're starting to elevate.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
So yeah, that's good to see. Good for the league.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Before they take their the Florida Panthers have the worst
record in the East right now, how about that? But
even then they're twelve to twelve and one and then
have the worst record. Yeah, tonight, we're are we are?
Are we on the road?
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Calgary? Yes, eight o'clock start before they come back, and
then how are they going to grow the game with
an eight o'clock start? Well, in cal agree, it's not
eight o'clock. It's yeah, but what about here. Well it's
not nine, Ye still late. They played nine o'clock. They
had a nine o'clock game here eight For people like me, Well,
you I like the teeth in the glass. Yeah, I
(09:14):
know you'll be watching the kiddies anyway. What are you
going to watch? I'm watching the Cowboys tonight and then
I'll watch Uh, you have a program predicament. We got
the Wolves playing in New Orleans again? What time is
that game to night? I hope it's earlier. I'll be
flipping around. I'll put it on the second half, watch
a little bit of it. But I know, I'm I'm
(09:36):
look at I'm not. You should boycott the team like
I do. They start, wellcot you don't watch any of
the games, So it's not question of boycotting him and
you don't watch. It's just established.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
This just came in and says, go ahead, Rose and
stick up for that lazy effort by the timber Wolves.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
I didn't, Dull, I didn't. What's I yes? When we
had that combination, that's the first thing I talked about,
was I get so exhausted. Well, I'm just I'm just
saying I didn't stick up for them. When did they?
I haven't even talked about the tim Rows. And secondly,
I didn't at all. After the game the other night,
(10:11):
I said, they were we've seen this movie before. They
gave up I don't know how many points and they
and they should have lost this gentleman or a person
was listening. I said, they were fortunate to win in
regular to get the game to overtime. They made a
couple of good defensive plays at the end when they
actually started trying defensively at the end of the game,
(10:31):
and it almost cost them a game.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
And you know, that's just that, you know, what can
a coach do to fix this? Because this this has
been all season and apparently.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
They talked.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Finch talked to the team before the game about it,
and then they had their worst defensive Portmas.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
So they don't apparently listen either.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
And I guess, you know, I guess that they make
postseason play because you know, Amp kind of said, he
goes it seems like that we just want to don't
want to play these games. We just want to get
to the playoffs. And they probably will make the playoffs
almost by default because they're going to be one of
the top eight teams. They just are I would think
unless no, they're going it's heart injuries or if they.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Really they'll be the top sixteen for sure. But uh,
what what is is there?
Speaker 2 (11:24):
How long do you just does the does the organization
just continue to accept as long as they stay with
more wins than loss and just running.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
The asylum every And that's the NBA. That's not just
the Timberwolves. That is the NBA. I mean that that's
that's a lot of what goes on when you hear
it's the it's a product for the most part of
an eighty two game schedule when you're playing every other night,
and these games don't have that much meaning to you know,
until until it comes bring it to the ticket in
(11:54):
the fourth quarter. They kind of go through the motions
and many times that's what that's what costs many of
the games, any of these teams. And I just think,
I don't think any coach can change that sort of mindset.
And it has to come within.
Speaker 2 (12:09):

It's a couple of thirteen fourteen pasted on common. He's
tying to be Mark Rose here as well.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
You're getting ripped.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Well, first of all, someone says that he said, go ahead, Rosen,
wantn't just stick up for the Wolves every and he
goes much much love for Rosie.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
I don't know why I get such a charge out
of getting him.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Going okay, apologies, And then after apologies he goes, oh,
I'll tell Hi, tell yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
People just like getting you're going. I wonder why. I
don't understand where that comes from. Where did they learn that?
How about this one? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Rosan just said he's seen this movie before talking about
the Wolves. Are you saying that basketball is scripted? Do
you have any evidence?
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Mark? I? Uh no, I seen this movie before. I mean,
it's not scripted, but it feels like it sometimes. I mean,
look at the standings in the NBA. There's a lot
of really really lousy teams, including the one in Milwaukee
where the honest is out it for two to four
weeks before you know, all those other trade rumors. I
heard Doc Rivers on I don't know. I saw an
(13:52):
interview with him, and he was so exasperated. He got
asked for the ninetieth time about you know, trade rumors,
and he goes, I will say this again for the
last bleeping time. Basically, he has never asked to be traded.
That's usually the kiss of death. He's probably going to
be And all of a sudden, you're right. Yet people
were talking about somehow the Wolves got mentioned in possible
(14:15):
trade rumors for him. I see about a one percent
chance that happening. But if it did, welcome to town.
Wolve's a top six team for sure. Not so fast. Yeah,
we're a sixth.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Seed now and have had one of, if not the
easiest schedules in the league. John from Owatana, I.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Just I don't think they'll be picked him to be
a second seed. I did. That's a little aggressive, I
admit that, but you know it. Let me look at
this point of the standings here, Mark said he's exhausted.
I thought he was in better shape now than he
wasn't forty five. I'm exhausted from the commons. I think
that yeah, sixth okay, see, we know is going to
(15:00):
probably win seventy games the way they're going, Lakers, Houston,
San Antonio, they'll get I don't know how long Wemby's
out in Denver, and then you know the Wolves are there.
It'll be a battle, but I think four, five and
six it'll be. It'll be close. All those teams will
be there, and I don't I don't think Golden State's
going to make a run. Phoenix is okay, Memphis is
(15:23):
don Portland's you know, not going anywhere, and the rest
of them are irrelevant. So you know they'll be in
the top six, but hopefully it'll be closer than the fourth.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Common is the only host who really calls it like
he sees it, holding local clubs account local clubs accountable.
Everyone else could take no, and I agree with them.
Well you're laughing, Yeah, is what I'm reading.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
What I didn't make that. I know, I don't need
to read it. I don't need to read it, but
I mean, only one you could take no? Okay, I'm
quite sure what that means they went the Battle of
the Little Big Horn. I've heard of it, also known
as Custer's Last Dance. Yes, you didn't do real well there.
According to the Lakota and other.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Plains Indians, they knew it as the Battle of the
Greasy Grass.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Really, yeah, I've never heard that before.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
An armed engagement between combined forces of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne,
and Arapaho tribes in the seventh Cavalry Regiment of the
United States Army took place June twenty five and twenty
six Doubleheader eighteen seventy six, along the Little Big Horn
River and the Crow Winning Reservation in southeastern Montana Territory.
(16:36):
The battle, which resulted in the defeat of US forces,
was the most significant action of the Great Sioux War
of eighteen seventy six. Tonight, it's the Battle of Danny Campbell.
This is their last stand. This is Campbell's last name.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Wow, that was a stretchy.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
They at seven and five and where they stand. They
have to beat Dallas tonight do you go to seven
and six? Obviously, if they won the rest of their games,
that and other things happen. They're not technically officially mathematically eliminated.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
But you can't lose at home.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
They've lost too many games at home, including on Thanksgiving
to Green Bay.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
This is they lost to Minnesota at the litter Box.
It's they're so.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
You know, they're on the they're on the you know,
right off the playoffs started today, they're one of them.
Is that they're they're on the outside in the hunt
looking in. But this would this would really, I think,
be the death note.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
I took a commented emphasis. I took a picture of
the odds, like if they if they win, if they lose,
one of the things, one of those things for this weekend.
Currently well, currently, right now, the Lions have a fifty
seven percent chance of making the playoffs. If they lose tonight,
it goes down to twenty three. The Cowboys not good
right now, and they're only thirty five percent chance of
(17:50):
making the playoffs. If they lose, it's down to eight percent. Yeah,
So that that's the importance of this game for in
particular for Dallas, well for both teams. Really, you might
be read, yeah, Dallas, well, here's here's what it is.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
For Detroit, it's what they need help obviously, and one
of the things they need help, especially if.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
They go four and one.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
I was looking through some you know, some playoff scenario
scenarios for all the different teams and what they needed
to have happened obviously gets very complicated, you know the
old they have to do this, and then you have
to hope this team, this team, this team, this team,
this team lose or tie or whatever it is. But
Detroit really needs either Green Bay or Chicago, or probably
Chicago because they Detroit got swept by Green Bay, so
(18:35):
they have a tiebreaker advantage. They Chicago and green may
have two games this week and then two weeks from now.
What would really benefit Detroit is two Chicago wins. I
think I think that would because they're probably not they're
not going to win the division. But then that that
if if yeah, they if if they're um, well, they
can't be tied with Green Bay, I guess technically because
unless they get a tie, but they need to sweep
(18:57):
by the way it was written, either by Green Bay
or by Chicago would really benefit to Troy.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
But you got to take care of your own business.
And I just don't know what their chances tonight. Yeah,
one of the more interesting ones all the weekend We
didn't touch it on spread swinging. No one jumped on it.
But uh, Kansas City Houston game for the Chiefs, you know,
team that you expect to be in the postseason. They're
playing at home against Houston and right now they're currently
have only a fifty six percent chance of making the
(19:24):
playoffs if they lose that game to Houston, and that
certainly no given that they're going to win that game.
Don't imagine there'd be fourteen percent a chance making the postseason.
The Patrick Mahomes led to Kansas City Chiefs, we're so
used to having him in the least of the AFC
Championship game. That's how far they would be dropped against,
you know, a good textan defense. So I think I said,
(19:45):
there's a lot of great games this weekend. We haven't
even touched on the Viking situation because nationally it's not
interesting to pretty much anybody. Locally, of course, there's a
lot of interests seeing J. J. McCarthy come back. And
once you get once we get past Koc's word salad
about what he expects from J. J.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
McCarthy, Well, is that word sounds like you're when you
say word salad, dear.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
I try. He's the mixed messaging. I mean, first we went,
didn't we not here for almost like two weeks. You know,
he's got to work on his fundamentals. He's got to
he's got to work on his footwork. He's got to
get we got to have the cement drive you gotta do.
He's working on all these other things.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Now.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Basically what I read into it was listening to him, Sis,
go out there and wing it. I think you're on something.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
We'll talk about on the other side of the break,
because that's I think that's exactly what a saying. And
then but to me, that's that's a failure in communication,
a failure of messaging, and it's it's it's a failure
by the head coach if that's what they if that's
if they've taken a certain tact and that tack didn't work,
they have to change. That means they've done something wrong.
We'll talk about that on the side of the break.
One more segment to go here with the legendary Mark

Speaker 2 (21:45):

Speaker 1 (21:50):
By the way when you're doing the promotion, though you
don't you spell it the way the team is though. Yeah, right,
because it's a promotion.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
That's exactly right. Timmy understands it.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Uh, this text message or this email because I lost

So I'll go to this email that says common boycotting

So we did not air that yesterday.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
We generally do and then comment on it.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
So I did not know what the coach had to
say until I looked at fish Trap Factory East West
in the Athletic today, and yes, quotes there you got
us quotes from when he was talking about JJ McCarthy
and he asked, what what are we going to? What's
(23:33):
the plan now? And here's what O'Connell said, It's purely
about decision making at this point.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
I want him to have a clear head and a
clear mind to just.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Go play well, play with an understanding of the decisions
that I make have to be of the utmost importance.
Because we learned our turnover numbers is where it is.
It's not a winning formula. I don't want him overthinking
or worrying about if the fundamentals need to be changed.
Let's just make the throws. Let's just throw and catch.
Let's just play with great rhythm and understanding of the plan.
(24:03):
And you're right when they've been working for so long
this year on mechanics, eyes and feet and this and
that and the other thing. And I think a lot
of a lot of us were a little taken aback
by that surprise and not astonished that. You think when
you get to this point in your career and you
know the comparisons, you know you're One of the debate was,
you know, when Wentz was playing, there were some of
(24:25):
us are saying, if he keeps winning. I think he
got to play him and the other Viking fans are saying,
we're not going anywhere with Carson Wentz. We have to
see what we have in the quarterback, and so, okay,
that's that's all finding good. But the quarterback doesn't even
(24:45):
have the basics down, right, And so you say to yourself, well,
without the basics down, what's what's what's the point? But
then if if you have another basics down and you can't,
you got to stop working. So I think the coach
is right, and the approach you're taking now, it's like
you just got to say throw that out and you know,
(25:07):
we can work on that in the off season if
it needs to be worked on again, But right now,
just go out and play the game of football. Pretend
you're playing in high school again where you never lost
a game, and you're with your pals and just wing
it around a little bit because he probably is overthinking
everything and try you know, Tannebe and I talked about it,
and we're not the first to say this. I'm sure
like where you're playing golf, you're never supposed to think
(25:28):
about where you're at the driving.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Range, that's what you think about.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Maybe you're working on keeping your left arm straight or
whatever the case may be. Once you get out on
the golf course or you play golf, and so you
work on the on the range, on the technical aspects
on it, and I think the same thing in football.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
You work on that, but once you get into the.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Game, you gotta you just got to play and maybe
maybe that will Maybe hopefully he can do that, Hopefully
he can put all that aside and just go out
there on Sunday, throw the football, make plays, play, you know,
and and then maybe see some improvement there.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
You're right, and it's hard to believe this team's gone
with eight quarters all scoring a touchdown. That's mind boggling
at any particular time in the history of this franchise.
And the important thing is that he's got to be present.
He needs to be out there. They have games, obviously
against Washington on Sunday. Mitch, We've talked a lot about
Dallas today because they play the Kiddies tonight. Bikings go
to Dallas on a Sunday night game a week from Sunday.
(26:22):
Then they have what looks like an easier game, but
you never know. Playing at New York against the Giants,
and they come home on Christmas Day and play the
Lions here, then they finish up against the Packers. The
thing that McCarthy has to do is play in all
of those games. I mean, his durability has got to
be prominent. I mean, and I know that's something that's
(26:43):
Kosi's talked about. You know, we know that that McCarthy
can get out and run. He's a really good athlete.
He can get out there, but he's got to be
smart about how to slide and I'm going to get
out of bounds. And you know, the thing, the last
thing you need to be worrying about with this kid
is that he's not going to be able to stay
on the field. I mean, he needs reps in the
worst possible way, because it's doesn't get It's not gonna
(27:05):
end with however this season ends. Obviously they're not going
to the postseason, but it's going to continue with their
offseason program that he missed all of last year and
then into next year. And then if they bring in
we were talking about during the break level popped his
head in here. If they bring in a Marcus Merriota
type of quarterback that is more than just a caretaker
(27:26):
that potentially could have to have to play if if,
if McCarthy doesn't get off to a good start. I mean,
it's it's going to be a dicey offseason for a
lot of reasons. But McCarthy more than anything, and I agree,
he's got to go out there and just you know,
sling the ball. He's got he's got trustin Jefferson and
Jordan Addison uh to throw the football to they get
(27:48):
the running game has been was actually pretty good for
a while, and and just stay in the game and
and and give them four quarters and and and make
it look like they can actually score points. I mean,
this is something that I never imagine watching with a
Justin Jefferson team. That would be this mighty a struggle
and at the vertical passing game of Kaosy loves to
(28:09):
throw the ball downfield. We know that, but they got
to change things around. You throw a quicker slants, do
whatever it is is just stay on the field and
move the needle a little bit and play better football.
That's the way it's going to be judged all season long.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
I read an email yesterday and we never were able
to dive into it because I think we ran out
of time on the show, but the emailer was he
didn't like.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
The body language and the way.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Justin Jefferson presented himself. In the last game, he sat
on the end of the bench by himself for a while.
He had a towel over his head, and I, you know,
I understand that, but you know, I also think every
you know, generally, you don't want to see that from
a player, But when you look at the whole body
of work in this of this team, in this this season,
(29:01):
in what they've gone through here, he is considered the
best wide receiver pro football.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
It's wonderful highs. A lot of lows, but wonderful highs.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
And you come here and you've you've been a good
soldier played with every quarter He's played a lot of
different quarterbacks. I mean, he's a lot of different quarterbacks,
and he continues to say the way out. He did
not talk the last time, but leading up to that,
he he always said the right things. He's always been
in McCarthy's corner. And I don't think that's just just
(29:28):
lip service either from from what we understand, from what
we're told by the people that that are there at
Winter Park every day, the cover of the club, all
of the all the players are giving him a lot
of support. I don't if if if Jefferson were to
do this every week and then started getting demonstrative about it,
then I would be.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
A little concerned. I think the guy has earned a
pass on this. And I'm not you know, you know me,
I'm not guy.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Saying he's he could be worse. He could have thrown
his helmet, knocked stuff over beas.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
That's what I thought, That's what I was. That's what
I'm trying to say. I got to kick out of
it last week. I mean, he caught two passes for
four yards last week. I mean, how how frustrated do
you think he is right now? And this is week
after week after week when you have a thoroughbread like
Justin Jefferson is, you know, and it's there's a lot
of pride, there's a lot of ego involved. But the
fact he didn't talk to the media after the game.
I was laughing at some of these reporters who were
(30:18):
talking about Justin Jefferson didn't talk. You know how many
times Randy Moss, even after a decent game, we'd go
on the we'd go in the Metrome locker room, and
we'd all howl around his locker waiting for Randy to
come back after you know, whatever he was doing, taking
a shower, getting ready, and he would come up to
the locker and he'd yell at all of us, not
anyone in particular, get out of my locker, Get out
(30:41):
of my Randy what. I just wanted to ask you
a few questions about the game that happened. I don't
I can't even begin to tell you how many weeks
and that was. You know, Randy was. We all know
his moose swings and and he's the last time I looked,
he's in the Hall of Fame. I wouldn't read that
much into it. Is he frustrated? Who wouldn't be? Right now?
I mean, but I don't think it's carried.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
On and no, yeah this right, like Kenneby said, I
think he's.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Actually, yeah, he's handled it. He's handle looked pretty well.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Hey, you know you had mentioned before moments ago about
you know, McCarthy got to stay healthy, play games here.
We have to try to develop just wing it around,
maybe work on the if you still need to work
on the mechanics during the off season and training camp
then come back at it. Because I'm with you, they're
going to bring them back. I don't think they're going
(31:28):
to be unless he was. Unless he continues to regress
over these next five games, right, they have to benchim
again and then they might not bring them back. But
more than like, you're going to bring them back and
work on the score. But I lifted this paragraph from
I think it was Alex Lewis from the Athletic but
it could have been from one of the fish raps too.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
But this is what I This is what it says
about the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
It says they already have three hundred and forty six
million in cap commitments and two hundred and fifty one
million in cash allocated for the twenty twenty six roster,
when they'll likely need to create cap space by releasing
or restructuring the contracts as several players in their late
twenties or early thirties. They could have nine or ten
(32:08):
draft picks next year, including four in the top one hundred,
but a lack of quantity and quality from the recent
draft classes forced them to try and build a contender
with veterans who carry higher costs in those bodies of
born more physical stress than young players would and that's
what does that that's the risk of you know, when
when the Vikings made that decision when they said, we're
(32:31):
going to let Darnold walk and Danny dimes and we
are going to go with the young kid.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
And what we're going to do is we're going to
try to put a.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Lot of safety valves around, including we're rebuilding the middle
of that offensive line and defensive line. The risk that
comes with that, of course, is the players you're getting.
Are you free agentcy Usually you're not getting young guys
in their prime generally speaking, and then you're paying you know,
monstrous money.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
But what you're doing is you're getting guys.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
The four guys they signed, the two in the office
is in the defense, where both quality players had played
very well in their careers, had good reputations, but they
were coming off injuries and they were older and longer
in the tooth, and so you take a chance there.
And let's face that, the four of them combined if
not lived up to the expectations this team needed. They've
had moments. Fries has been okay, the couple of one
(33:20):
of the defensive guys has had his moments but for
the most part, those guys haven't really added much. So
then not only did you decide that not because you
wanted to save money and you you you had a
lot of trust in your young quarterback, You believed in
them and you thought you could coach them up. Well,
not only did that not work to the way you
want it, but then the guys you signed with the
money that you saved by not going after Donald, they
(33:41):
it's like because that was one of the comebacks by
a lot of listeners. Well, if we would have signed Donald,
we wouldn't have had that money for the free agents.
I wish we wouldn't have spent the money in those
free agents.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Now, if that makes any sense, Well they have to
This is a I don't have to be the one
to tell everybody listening. No, is this a huge off
season for Quasi and for in particular for the scouting
depart And they cannot swing and miss because unlike you,
they have their draft picks, they have extra draft picks
this year, and they have to produce. They have to
come up and they're going to be able to roberts
(34:09):
in Ski is a master at the salary cap. And yes,
some of those guys won't be back. We know obviously
Harrison Smith won't be back, and one of those defensive
linemen won't be back. We've seen the emergence of you know,
Eric Wilson has been around for a while, has had
a really good season. Jalen Redman's had a terrific season.
Dallas Turner is emerging as a young guy in a
(34:30):
rookie contract that looks like he's going to be a player.
Grenard looks very good. Then you know the Van Ginkel
a year ago. Then they struck. You know, they hit
on all those guys pretty much. Uh, Grenard and Van
Ginkle and Cashman have all played real well. They've played
well this year. They played really well last weekend in Seattle,
and they still got some left in the tank. So
(34:51):
it's mostly the you know, the Hargrave, you know Allen
middle of the line and how they're going to deal
with the offensive line. But they're gonna have to move
by bodies out and they'll they'll get to the cap number.
That is something that they've managed to do. And they
can always restructure contracts. You hear this all the time,
and they manage to get it done. Kicking the can
down there. Yeah, but it's the draft will be a
(35:12):
lot more important. And I know fans right now are going, God,
you know, if I can be better off losing some
of these games, I don't know. I mean, does it matter.
I mean, it's a rhetorical question. We don't know. Well, actually,
you know what I would say.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
I hate saying, you know that tanking is a good thing,
and I'm not even saying, but I think it is
better if they lose, unless you think they're gonna run
off the games and get in as a nine and
eight club. If they're not so or not, it's just
just see some development the team, entertaining games, and if
you lose a few, who cares.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Yeah, I don't think. I don't think that's a yeah.
I don't think people are are going to be, uh,
you know, doing the skull chance at the point of
on Sunday afternoon that if they don't win, they're going
to walk out of their you know, demonstratively disappointed they
will be. If McCarthy doesn't put the ball in the
end zone this week. I think that's the more important
thing against Washing Washington, and I hope. I don't know
(36:01):
if he's going to or not, but I hope Jade
Daniels does play for Washington this week. They've lost seven
games in a row, which is almost twice as many
losses as they had. Remember last year they went twelve
and five. I went to the NFC Championship game. So
if you think the Misery loves company, look at Washington. No,
they they've had some pretty good competitive games. But you
(36:22):
know if jayde and Daniels is the biggest you know
again you're talk with the quarterback and young quarterback. He
was a big reason why they went and reached the
NFC Championship game last nast year and he's been hurt.
He was number one reason. Yeah, he was great and
I'd like to see you know, people, I hope I
can see a better chance. I want Jane Daniels to play.
I like to see him play. I mean, he's he's
a talent, he's fun to watch. We don't have those
(36:44):
many opportunities, and the Vikings have you know what they
got the as far as home games go, they got
the Washington game, and they got Detroit and Green Ban.
They got three home games left, uh in this month
of December, and and the first game is obviously January.
The last game is January fourth against the Packers. So yeah,
I don't know. It's uh crazy the lead you.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Mentioned when when LaBelle aductor's head in real quick during
a break, I taught you asked him about.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Byron Buckston and you know, will he be traded? Does
he want to be traded? And what can you get
for him? And you know I talked about this yesterday.
Uh because.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
The team is is obviously they've they've cut you know,
they they had the sell off last year, they cut
the payroll, they had the fire sail last year, and
they've all let a couple of players go already. It
doesn't appear that their intentions are to try to get
(37:50):
to the World Series this year. And I don't think
even if their intentions were, I don't think they can.
Buxton was really good last year, probably his best year.
I think he's had maybe I have that one other long,
longer season because he's had one season where he puted
like one forty and then he played a lot of
games last year. Other that he hasn't played a lot
of games. But as the three of us were talking about,
(38:11):
if if he does want to be traded, I don't
think you're gonna get a boat load for him, but
you you're you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Get more form now than any other time.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Because here's the thing, even if you keep him, his
history is he gets injured a lot. Now maybe every
year is different. Maybe now he's on a struct where
he's never gonna get hurt again. But well, if I
if I'm the friend, and I know this pains Twins
fans that want to see a team compete, but I
think it's probably their best interest if they can.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Well, you're selling high right now.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
You're selling high, and you're getting and you would hopefully
be getting young talent that you know, the young.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
Talent you acquire, the prospects.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
I don't know what percentage actually pan out in Major
League Baseball, one out of five, one out of eight,
whatever it is, but the more you have, the better
your chances you have of getting players that that eventually
can be you know, mainstays and on the big league club.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
And based on our quick conversation with Lavelle as well,
I mean you get the sense that of the other
trades that would potentially be made, Joe Ryan's at the
top of that list. Uh. And that pains me because
you know, but pitching starting pitching. I don't care if
he's a pain in the butt behind the scenes. And
you know, you know, Pablo Lopez is going to be here.
I don't think they're gonna trade both of them. Got
to hope not. But you know, Ryan seems like a
(39:27):
guy that is ready to move on from this nonsense
going on over at Target Field and the ownership situation.
And I you know, he's you know, he wants to win.
He wants to win now much more. You know, Sunny Grade,
you know, left and now he's back in American Lady
with Boston. But you know, I think there's probably a
couple more moves to be had, because I mean there's
not They're not fooling anybody over there. They're not going
(39:47):
to say, hey, we're gonna go sign a top free agent.
We're gonna no, we know what they are. They're going
to be a glorified Saints team. You know, if you
want to go watch the he used to go to
Saint Paul watched the top minor league. You'll watch them here.
Now now I get to go to the Target Field
and watch them. Just cost a little bit more money,
you'll watch them.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
We're now the farm system for Major League Baseball. We'll
grow and develop players and.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
Then you guys take them in the major leagues.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
This text message or email says Rosen's right, McCarthy needs reps.
I have a plan to get him twice as many
reps in the remaining five games as he's had all
year long.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
It's called getting a first down. Yeah, that should be nice.
You can even do it twice or three times in
a row. Some teams believe it or.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Not employing the strategy to matriculate down the fielders for
what it's called the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
By the way, I'm willing to share this information with
the head coach. That's a good idea. It's more reps,
get first down. You know, you can laugh about it.
It's a funny email, but at the same time, it's
been so long since it used to be anyone Cousins
was here. You go, you know they're going to put
up twenty eight points a game, and you know, getting
in the end zone and having the explosions and blah
blah blah at us Bank. You just can't remember what
(40:54):
that looks like. If they get a first down, you're
kind of going, Wow, they threw they completed a fifteen
yard pass and you're stunned. I mean, I never imagine
watching a Viking offense this kind of struggle to to
move the ball and score. When you watch these other teams,
watch the Trenton Dallas tonight, I don't think either one
(41:15):
of those teams are gonna have trouble moving the football tonight.
I think that's gonna be a high scoring game. But
that's the point you have to you have. The league
is set up to score points. The rules are set
up that way, the pass interference penalties, the way that
they deal with the quarterback roughing the passer, all the
sorts of things, defensive holding. You gotta put points on
the board. And it's just been a you know, it's
(41:37):
absolutely mind boggling that they've won eight quarters without a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Well yeah, I mean, worst case scenario, it wouldn't I
don't think mean the end of the end of the
end for Marcarth. But if he plays against the Commanders
like he has the last few games.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
It's just going to be, like.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
I mean, because I don't know how long you can
keep I guess you just keep trotting them out there
because you have to don't.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
I guess you get rose for a second.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
But that's that doesn't work though, And now we're looking
to next year anyway, So yeah, let him play for
his job next year.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
But I mean, how ugly would it just how uncomfortable
would it be? And how bad? I mean, I've already
said this before. I feel bad for the kid.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
I don't know why, because it's just such a struggle
for him. How bad will it get if he just
they keep putting out there and it doesn't get better better?
Every single series is the same. Where where I want
to see nine again? Go back to that Lions game
on the road. They beat your kiddies. How did that happen?
I'm trying to remember.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Yeah, all right, you're picking the Vikings to beat the Commanders.
I don't know, I don't I don't have any feeling
about it. I'm picking the Purple I think said big,
big game. Okay, you said that once before. We'll see
you Tuesday at a good weekend. You too in the
game of the night. Hope not too much.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
Thanks for having a great job you as well. We
enjoyed our visit.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
We're back tomorrow at twelve noon.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
Big ticket, Jay G They're next right here in the
fan dot young man.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
And good night, and good night missus Calabash, where have you?
