Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeattle.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
They should have kept that game scoreless as long as possible.
That's what I would have done.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Oh, our offense try to do that.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yeah they did.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
They've played their part.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
They did their part. I I like riding the storm out.
Good choice.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yeah, I kind of liked that.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, I'm assuming we've used it before.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I think we used it once before. It's been a while.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, well, you know what, you know what I really
miss I played it Forduce today. Then he recognized right away,
wasn't sure I played? Uh? And how much fun would
have been to have this coming up? Kenny Rodgers, When
you put your heart in it, it might be the
best montage song of all time from when you're you know,
when your team In.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Terms of the emotion of it, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
You know, we knew it was one in a million.
Anything can happen when you put your heart in it.
So good. But I don't think I have to worry
about that one. For a while, it sounded as though,
I guess Friday Football Feest was about as festive as
(01:05):
it can be for a team that is our record
four and seven or four and eight. I believe we're
four and eight, are we not?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
So?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah? I guess it is as fest as as it gets, though.
I was told because a friend of mine who ducks
in and out of the Paul Island project, told me
it was a little negative early, and you know rightly.
So it was talking about how, you know, if things
don't get turned around and heard, if we don't ride
this storm on it, we're gonna have one of our
worst seasons we've had in a long long time. I mean,
(01:35):
when was the last time, I mean, what if what
if we do the opposite to run the table and
at four and it would be four and thirteen? Yeah,
I mean, when was the last time we were that bad?
Was that the mc bounce past year? Remember when McNabb
was our quarterback? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Lad, Yeah, I think we won five that year.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I think that was it. And that might have still
been in a sixteen game season. I don't know if
we'd gone to seventeen yet, but yeah, it's it's hard
to know. And you know, we we talked about this
the past couple of weeks. I mean, last week for
me was my emotion interest in the Bikings game in
a while, because hey, see what Brosemer's got right, and
(02:16):
we saw what he's got which ain't much. And now
I guess the interest level just is, what can the
anointed franchise quarterback doing the last five games? You know,
you look at the opposition, you know, and none of
it's great. Now Daniels is going to start, right, He's
(02:37):
been clear to play. Yes, so he will play. So
that poses uh, though, Mariota I think did pretty good
for him. I mean, he's not Daniels, but he was okay.
I mean he's he's he's not chopped liver. He'd start
for us.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Oh, we'd love that. We might be a playoff team
with him.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yeah, that's correct. So, but they're not any good and
then Troit's not any good and they lost branch that
I see that right, Branch out for the year.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
He'll be a.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Calendar year man. I mean, twenty three is our best
defensive player, Ian Hutch Even though they they won last
that was fun for if you're a kiddies fan, it
was a it was an enjoyable football game. You know
those I always love those playoff calculators, you know, I mean,
they're I just I mean, I know how it works.
They've got some kind of formula as a computer. You know,
(03:24):
it's a I but you know, the Lions now have
like a fifty three chance to mayor forty five whatever
it is. And had they lost, it had been done
in like, you know, thirteen fourteen, so but they had.
So you have Washington and the Lions, and then who
else do we have.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
We've got Giants, Cowboys giants. We have Washington Cowboys, Giants,
the Troy green Bay.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, so green Bay again, Now when you get to
that last game of the season, it might green Bay
might have everything locks, they might have clinched the division.
We don't know right now, they're not in first place,
but you you know, as that we so that game
might be more winnable if green Bay just says, you know,
we're resting everybody. So we'll see how it works out.
But you know, the we discussed this yesterday when we
(04:10):
were out at Shields. We did not have a Nico
med Bed show, the new head coach of the soon
to be Big Ten champion Minnesota Golden Golfers. But he
did do it on Wednesday and on Tuesday. That means
(04:31):
how did that work? Oh So on Wednesday when he
did the show, we did not have O'Connell's news conference
on because he does a Wednesday midweek thing during that
twelve three to twelve forty five. So we missed this
on the air, but then we talked about it yesterday
because it was in the fish wraps and it was
in the in the athletic they're now going to apparently
just they've decided they're throwing all the footwork and the
(04:52):
eyes and the feet and all the it's the word
I'm looking for, mechanics, mechanics of the of the position,
throwing that out the window and just say go out
there and just play ball, which is probably the best
thing you can do.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
And then I don't know why we waited that long.
You figure that out though, Well that's true.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
And then the kid even admitted, yeah, this, you know,
and again you know he's he says all the right.
Remember he told us that, you know, he was a
champagne bottle about ready.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
To on quirk.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Remember, and he's he's nine his alter egos, So I'm
not sure I trust much of what he says either
as far as what he thinks is going to happen.
But he did have a he did have some quotes.
Maybe we'll look at those and peek at the purple
on the other side of the break. He had some quotes.
(05:39):
They talked to the kid about what he's planning to do,
and we've got, you know, more positivity coming from and
that's good. I mean, I'm glad he's thinking positive. But
you know, first he said he was he was nine.
It's his alter ego and he goes out there and
he balls and that didn't work out very well. And
then he said, you know, I'm I'm a champagne bottle
(06:02):
or you know bottle, but with a quark about to explode.
And that was terrible. So I don't know if if
if saying, hey, throw the mechanics out the window and
just play football. Just worry about, you know, knowing the
plays and we're dumbing it down and just get the
ball out quick. Uh, try not to overthrow your receivers.
(06:22):
Do showed me something that's going around and social did
you see it where? I think it's from some third
world country. It shows a bunch of guys on stilts
walking down a dirt road and then the caption on
it was Viking wide receivers practicing for JAJ McCarthy and
(06:43):
will he be able to get the ball down and
get it accurately to the wide receivers. You know, I
don't know, but I'm curious to see. I will watch.
It's part of the reason I like NFL. I've told
you this before. Middle of winter, Sunday afternoon, I got
nothing to do. Anyways, What am I going to do? Said?
You know? Ten might play ice hockey, haven't might go
out and hunt pheasants me. I'm hybernating inside. So we'll see.
(07:09):

This place sometimes see no one else. I came in
today looking for leadership. Came in early, knew.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Me aka golf season done.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Find a funny abbott. You're laughing and smiling, and then
you're back at it again. Now. He came looking for leadership,
and he's always said I've got an open door policy.
Guess what door was closed? I saw him in there,
but the door was closed. There's no open door policy
here this place sometimes, so peek at the Purple brought
(08:47):
to by our friends at Affordable Electric for all of
your electrical needs. Affordable Electric. You know common he's a
big affordable electric guy. Affordable Electric. That's Affordable dash Electric
dot com. Affordable dash Electric. They are shockingly affordable. Boy.
Maybe we can get a maybe this. Maybe we can
use that egetrometer to jump start the purple. Peak at
(09:08):
the Purple brought to you by Affordable Electric, we'd be
talking a lot of people are talking about quarterback situation
with the Vikings, and here's what O'Connell has said. During
his news conference on Wednesday, he basically said macarthy has
(09:28):
to have a clear, clear head and a clear mind.
We're gonna try to dumb it down a little bit.
Forget all the mechanics of the of the position. Just
go out there and you know, start spinning it around
the ballpark. So here's what the story from the Fish
Wrap says. They've asked McCarthy to worry less about his
work in progress throwing mechanics and footwork, and more on
(09:50):
making the right decisions with the ball. Here's what McCarthy said,
A lot of the mentality has changed. I was so
focused on doing every rep perfect and making sure every
little detail was crossed and checked off. I feel like
Coach O'Connell and coach McCown talking to me like, hey,
let's not worry about that stuff in the Let's not
(10:10):
worry about that stuff. Let's worry about that stuff in
the off season. Go out there, play your ball, Just
execute the play. At the end of the day. That
freeze up a lot of space. Mentally, be instinctual, react
respond to what the defense has given me. He goes
on to say he called himself a natural overthinker. Oh boy,
(10:34):
just what we need.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
The opposite of this show, correct thinkers.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
That's exactly right. Macarthy pinpointed that as the root cost
for some of his struggles, I overthink things too much.
O'Connell is talking about McCarthy's inconsistent footwork, posture and throwing
motion as areas of coaches continue to refine and improve
(10:59):
his accuracy in touch. McCarthy said he's been overthinking those
tips and games. He said, it's not against them, talking
about the coaches. I need to do a better job
of come part, compartmentalizing, compart. I can say that word, compart.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Can you say it is a hard one.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Compartmentalize, compartmentalizing, Yes, thank you those coaching points and realizing
when it's game time it's time to let it loose.
It's not like I'm totally disregarding all the coaching points,
but it's picking and choosing which ones you carry into
the game and what's going to be the most effective
way of completing the play. Yeah, I'm sorry. He sounds
like a mess, doesn't he? It really does. And he's
young and he's athletic, and you know, he's been a success,
(11:41):
and I'm not giving up on them, and I'm not
saying they should. We've talked about this over and over
and over and over and over and over and over again.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Well, I wonder how much of this is him overthinking
or the coaches over coaching.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Well, I think it might be a con.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Right, Like when when he first got hurt, and remember
it took like a month before we decided he was
healthy to come back again because he had to be
one hundred before he could play. And the first thing
I said on the bye week was, yeah, we really
were working with him with the lightning his feet and
his eyes, and like, why are we doing that in
the middle of the season, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
That is an off season thing.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Once you get into games, it should be here's the
game plan, Here's what Detroit's defense does when they set
up in this formation this movie, that's what you need
to focus on. And once you get in the season,
I would think not be focusing on mechanics.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Well, that's what I would think, and I think that's
what most people think, and maybe that's what they're they're
doing now. And I'm thinking what probably happened to me.
And we've talked about this as well, and it's a
little I don't know if alarming is the right word,
but I think it's possible they didn't know how his
rudimentary skills were really rough. And like I say, that's
(12:46):
a bit alarming because you watched film, you had him
in for a tryout, probably went to the I don't know.
I think McCarthy probably participated in in the combine. She
would think you would have known all the things, especially
now I know he was hurt last year, but he
did play some pre season before he was hurt, so
you would think you would have known that those things
(13:07):
had to be to be worked on. But then and
so yeah, it's well. And then it goes back to
had they kept if you knew his his his mechanics
were that bad, well, maybe it would have been better
to hate to say, hey, you know what, maybe we
better keep darking. They couldn't they have franchised. Arnold kept
him for one year and they wanted to right said
(13:30):
they could have franchised.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
I don't know if that's accurate or not.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I should say, sure, yeah, I thought maybe they could have.
But maybe somebody can answer that for me, But.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
I don't think that would have been you know, kosher
to do. I technically, if it was by the rules,
you can do it. I think Sam at that point
in his career had earned it, had earned a contract,
and it's just kind of the Yeah, even the contract
he got is from in terms of quarterback terms, is now.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Expensive.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
I agree. I agree. A matter of fact, here's a
story that appeared today. Jeff Holle writes for the Athletic.
What the Athletic you're not familiar with. Coolest thing ever,
it's sort of like a USA today today for sports.
(14:24):
It's it's got writers from all over the country, every
major market and every small play. They got hundreds undred
of writers and they cover all the sports. And you know,
like Colton Pouncey is the beat writer for the Detroit
Lions for the athletic. Alec Lewis is the beat writer
for the Minnesota Vikings for the athletics. So they covered
(14:45):
and with the Athletic they don't really have as many,
you know, for you know, the the dailies they have
shorter stories, they can do more long form. So sometimes
it gets too much. Sometimes I'll be reading, you know,
you'll read Krazinski's Timberwolves things that you think, well, this
is a novel. He's writing a book about the Minnesota Timberwolves,
which you realize is just a story. But he does
a great job. I'm not ripping them. I'm just kind
of teasing because all these guys will write these long
(15:07):
form things, including Jeff Howe wrote a piece why NFL
teams want more qbs to skip the draft and stay
in school, And if you read the piece now, he
quotes people that request anonymity, So I don't think he's
making it up. But it's SEC guys and NFL guys
all kind of saying the same thing, where it's like,
you'd probably be benefit would be good for the league,
(15:29):
it would be good for college football, it would be
good for you. There's there's a two quarterbacks that I
think are the two of the most highly it's supposed
to be kind of a weak quarterback class this year. Yeah,
but of like two of the top three, they're all
they're twenty years old. That's younger than McCarthy, right, McCarthy
(15:49):
twenty two, I think he was draft yeah, twenty twenty. Yeah,
So these guys they're so young and they don't one
of the kids has played seventy games of college football.
You draft him and then say you're starting. I mean,
and maybe some of them can do it. There are
(16:10):
some guys that are wonder kids. You know. They're just
they're they're they're they they're just they're light years for
some reason. They're just they're natural, right, they're once in
a life generational where they can at twenty years, they
have their mechanics down, they know how to read a defense.
They're just really good at what they do. But that's
so rare, and so that's why you have these players.
(16:31):
And McCarthy probably just doesn't It wasn't ready. And I
know it's complicated because we've all sort of decided and
there's probably a lot of truth to this because I've
sort of come around in this way of thinking, and
I think maybe you have as well. It's nice to
have a young quarterback under the rookie contract starting for
you right away and playing well, because then he got
money to spread in other places. Like Jayden Daniels last
(16:52):
year playing on a rookie contract, taking a team to
the NFC Championship Game, and he's making the minute.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
He was also starting his rookie years at twenty four,
Y's right, that's as opposed to be one like JJ mccas's.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Exactly right, And so that makes quite a bit of
a difference. And so I think there was a lot
of miscalculations going on about where McCarthy was at the
time they drafted him and where he was at the
beginning of this year. And I think a lot of
it is I think the coaching staff sometimes gets a
little full of themselves with how much they can do
(17:25):
with coaching a quarterback. But when you're told that nationally
and locally forever, maybe start believing that kind of stuff.
But I had several people just text me and say
they could have franchised me. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Someone text me and said it would have been like
forty million dollars.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Oh would it have been that much? Yeah, because you're playing.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
What Tops' speaking like thirty three? Now, yeah, you'd be
paying top five.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
I get that. Let's let's pause, come back off. Pick
at the Purple brought to you by your friends at
Affordable Electric Affordable dash Electric dot com. They are shocking
the affordable for all your electrical needs. I offered yes
today to go to the bull's eye and give a
pep talk to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Might have to do
that for the while. I'll explain on the side of

Speaker 2 (18:41):
A couple thirteen fourteen past common Man program on comedies
tend to be five three four did just slap one
together for top ho I did yes and then no
litill be today. She's out today and next Friday we
will do program password though the former International Boxing Federation
Super Middleweight Champion of the World, Caleb Golden, Caleb TRUEX
(19:02):
close friend of the show. We text and talk more
than most people know. We will be one of our
participants along with the Grimmer and Norda will participate as well.
Tenneby I if you'll remember I, well, it's hard not
to remember. I get very frustrated with the soon to
be NBA World champion Minnesota Timberwolves. This edition of the
(19:25):
Wolves so far this year. They they they beat the
bad teams, but they generally can't hang with the best teams.
A record would confirm that. And then some of the
quotes that come out of the locker room are just
and this has been going on for a couple of
years now. The latest were the head coach Chris Finch said,
(19:46):
he seems like the team is bored sometimes particular on
the defensive end of the floor. Having been to two
back to back Western Conference finals, you are almost bored
with the regular odds. Another regular season game, middle of
the week on the road somewhere. An aunt even said,
it seems like we didn't even want to play these games.
(20:07):
We're just waiting for the playoffs. And I it to me,
it's like it's so unprofessional because people are paying money.
You're an entertainer, so you're supposed to put your best
foot forward. I mean, we know that Oklahoma City Thunder.
If anybody should be bored, they just won a world championship.
They've lost one game. They don't they're they probably are
(20:28):
more locked in now than they were last year. And
really good teams, championship caliber teams, they're always locked in
like that. I don't have the playoffs will just start today.
The Wolves would be in I get that, but and
they'll end more than likely they'll make the playoffs. And
but even Aunt said it's hard to just to just
(20:49):
flip a switch and play deef on paraphrase and how
he said it. But to just flip a switch come
playoff time and start playing defense, You've got to build
towards that make it a habit, do a day game
in game out on the other side of town, the
Minnesota Wild, their season started out it was shaky. They
were on shaky ice, cracking nice, and then the month
(21:12):
in November it was like a flip a switch flip
for them. Their recond No, they lost last night, but yeah,
their record was what twelve one and one or something
crazy like yes for the month of November, and their
two goaltenders have been Frank Brimsick like mister Zero's, especially
the young kid the Wall from Saint Paul. You had
four shutouts this year, three or four, three, six, seven,
(21:32):
three four whatever. They lose last night to a pretty
mediocre Calgary club. Right Calgary is terribley.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
In the NHL.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
But like as I said yesterday, the parody in the
NHL this year is as close as we've seen in
a long time, so there isn't like a bottom feeder
anymore that we've had in previous years.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
They were down one Zippo, tied at one to one.
They went into the third frame and gave up two
quick goals I think right away, and then an empty
and editor had lost four to one. I'm told their
goalie stood on his head on a couple of occasions
like our guy's been doing. Yeah, a couple of brilliant saves.
Yakoff Trendon. Was he our only goal scorer last night?
(22:13):
Didn't he score? Yea one? Yeah? This is what he
said after the game. I wish I could do his accent,
because I'm sure he does. Right. We had a lot
of looks in the first and maybe if we scored,
because they were on the power player even for four minutes.
They had a four minute power play.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
And they had four power play.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yeah, we had a lot of looks in the first
and maybe if we score those goals, it'd be a
different game. But I think after that we didn't work
hard enough to get rewarded with a goal. We tried.
East West plays lazy, flat game. That's a direct quote
I saw on the Fisher rep factory west Side. We
(22:54):
had a lot of looks in the first and maybe
if we score those goals, it would be a different game.
And I think after that we didn't work hard enough
to get rewarded with the goal we tried. East West
plays set a North South. Yeah, lazy, flat game. He says,
they were lazy. Now I know they. I'm sure the
(23:17):
basketball community, which takes umbrage with much of what I
say about the Wolves, we're probably delighted to hear this.
I will give the while, I'll give him. I'll give
a team a pass, you know, all of them, all right,
don't let that happen. You know, you know, you let
your kids right, your kids do something wrong, Okay, I'm
(23:38):
gonna give you a pass here. I mean, as long
as they aren't stealing the neighbor's car. But you know,
if it's not something that's really not but you just
don't do that again. You know better than that, right,
because a while I've been playing hard. Obviously, you don't
go twelve one and one or whatever is in November
without playing hard and your goal turn and everything working
and blah blah blah. But if he is, if he's
if he's right, and that they were they got a
little lazy, and I don't want to see any laziness here.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
So your thoughts, you saw the game, I'm assuming sometimes
it's hard to decipher and hockey a team that is
working hard, like they're always working hard to a certain extent, right,
I mean, it's not like flat out stopped trying.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
But you know, one of my favorite cliches.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
From our program director in the corner's office chat Abbott
is good is the enemy of great.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
In mine is mediocre as the enemy a good.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
And they've been great over the last month. And you
do wonder if we're pretty good, we don't have to
give everything. We like, everything that we just did to
make ourselves that good man. We don't have to try
that hardymore. We've given ourselves some room in the standings.
We're playing the Calgary Flames. They're not going to give
us much of an effort. They're at the bottom of
the Western Conference right now. And I mean they did
(24:48):
you know, it wasn't like an all, It wasn't sixty
minutes of.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Zero effort and just playing awful.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
You know, they had a stretch in the second half
of the second period where they're putting it on caligary, and
that is when they're when their goaltender was standing on
his head a little bit, and they had it as
even though they weren't playing great, it was still a
tie game going into the third.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Period, and things just fell apart a little bit. But
it's one game. I'm not going to get too sent
out of shape over one one game.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
And I'm not either, So I say I'm willing to
go ahead. I give, I give, I give teams a pass,
but I just don't. And again, maybe you know, I
get accused of taking quotes from athletes literally oftentimes. You know,
Deuce and I watching last night Kitties beat uh Dallas.
So immediately after the game, they talked to Jamire Gibbs.
(25:42):
He's the best running back in pro football. By the way,
you can say whatever you want. That's everybody's opinion. He's
the best running back pro football. The best wide receiver
pro football is Amon Ross Saint Brown. It's not JJ,
it's not Chase, it's not Ceedee Lamb. The numbers there
that you can't argue with them. We had that stat
where since he has been in the league, no team
(26:04):
puts up more yards than the Detroit lines when he's
on the field, when he's off, they dropped the twenty fifties.
That good. He was brilliant again last night. Jamior Gibbs
is just so good. And then you compliment with that.
It's just their offensive and now their defense, and it's
unfortunate and their coach sometimes gets in his own way
whiting off knee catch. Yeah, they're not very good or
(26:29):
watching and whatever sideline reporter Gal is, she's asking Gibbs
questions and they're always looking for these I think deep
football analytical kind of answers from the guys. You know.
She goes, you know, take all the Dallas Cowboys who
had you know that? How did you do it? And
it just goes, you know, how were you able to
slow down a team like that or whatever? And or
(26:51):
their defense have been playing well the last couple of games,
and how are you able to break it up? He
just goes, they just give me the ball and I
run what I said? Yeah, did they call the play?
And I just go And then it's not that complicated.
I don't know what they're looking for. And so the
reason I bring that fas yes. And so the reason
I bring that up is is Oftentimes an athlete's response
(27:12):
will be sort of generic and sometimes they don't know
what to say. I think it was particularly I think
in the NBA, because there is four games a week basically,
and if you don't play well, you know, and you
and you are and you are kind of going through
the motions and you what do you expect them to you?
(27:33):
So you just to shut them up and just go, yeah,
we had much of an effort out there last time.
We'll play better next week. Do they really mean that?
Just tread to mean they were really lazy? I don't know.
I got to take them out as word. So I
just don't like the word lazy, you know. And and
like you say, were they lazy throughout the game? No
second period? They gave it everything they had. But I
just just they I guess it wouldn't be the optics,
(27:56):
it would be the eartics, you know. It's what I hear.
I want want to hear quotes like that. I'm like,
I just I don't like that. As Ben Lugo once said.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
You could say I don't like that, But on the
other I could take the other side of it and go,
they had a bad performance and they're addressing it right away, right,
like it'd be easy to just God, no big deal.
This is just one of those games, is what happens
in hockey, right Whereas they're going, hey, we were lazy,
that wasn't enough, Like here's our standard, we need to
meet the standard. We didn't do that last night. And
(28:25):
at least they're addressing it and hopefully that'll change the
next game, as opposed to letting that thing go from
you know, as we said at the beginning of the year,
when they win three, six and three, where you just
let that thing keep sliding and sliding. Yeah, So I'm
problem with them, Colin, And I actually think that's a
good thing.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Oh it is, it is. I I don't I don't.
I don't mind that, especially if it doesn't become like,
let's say, over the next couple of weeks, they lose
a few more games that they're going, why we just
kind of got lazy. Then you start going because that's
what the wars. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, I mean
when you say that, you're already bored and the season
has just started and you want you want to wash
away these games and get to postseason play. If you're
(29:02):
the ticket buying public. Somebody had a great email yesterday.
He says, maybe on Board paying one hundreds of dollars
should take us to go see your games. You know,
because in all seriousness, if you are paying good money
to go watch a game and you're thinking to yourself, well,
the guys say they're bored, and I can see they're
allowing their you know, they're defensively, they're really not getting
back and they're not they're not really last night, same
(29:23):
thing if if if I did not see the game,
I'm going by again quotes they they won, they beat
and they beat this the second time they beat the
Pels this week. And and you know, if you read
the Gamer, and I will, this is out of the
fish rep Factory West Side Takeaway. Timberwolves do enough to
(29:48):
make it a sweep of the Pelicans and the Chris
Heine is the beat writer for The Fish Wrap and
the Wolves says Oolves again made life tough on themselves
or as the worst team in the West, but they
left New Orleans with two wins. Welves went on a
seventeen to two erst in the opening minutes of the
fourth quarter that flipped a two point deficit to a
(30:09):
thirteen point lead, and they were able to get enough
easy buckets against the Pells full court pressure. Despite committing
twenty turnovers like they did on Sunday, the Wolves deployed
his own defense generate enough stops of them to go
on a run. But as it does say, they were
once again they allowed a team that they shouldn't toy with.
(30:32):
They just kind of went through the motions. I guess
board with the basketball game, and I guess you can't.
You can't argue with the winning then. And apparently he
had some foul trouble last night. His numbers certainly weren't
where they were. I think I saw a note in
his last forty he had like three forty point games
(31:03):
and his four out of the last five games something
like the guys scoring at a prolific level. You know,
he can put the ball in the basket, there's no question.
But the team, apparently defense they're not interested in playing
right now. And I guess I just have to deal
with it, you know, because it doesn't seem like that's
going to change anytime soon. And I guess as long
as they stay in the mix, it's it's like Finch Center.
(31:25):
We've read the quotes, you know, the the West, it's loaded, man,
every night. It's it's it's it's sort of like it's
like the NFC. Somebody sent me a text message, a
text message that said, and they're right. It says, it says,
if the playoffs would start today, lines are eight and five,
(31:45):
they'd be out. They're not in. And that's because the
NFC is pretty top heavy. There's some teams with some
really good records. Bears at nine and three, Ram they
both three or what are they eight? And I think
the I think they're both nine and three. Yeah, they're
both nine and three.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Packers are eight, three and one, three and one, Eagles
eight and four.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Yeah, it's I don't think the AFC is.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Quite as forty nine ers or third in their division at
nine and four.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Yeah, at nine and four, and they're the last team
in right now, so and they got to buy this
week and over in the AFC, I don't think it's
quite I think those lower seeds, you know, the the
wild card teams, I don't think your record needs to
be quite as good at this point.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
So well, even in the AFC, there're seven seed right
now is eight and four, Okay, So there you go.
Obviously they've got the the six and six Ravens would
be in a division, yeah, right, right right, and then
they have four teams that are eight and four Jaguars, Chargers, Colts, Bills.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yeah. Text message says you two are such clo For years,
you've been saying NHL players are get killed if they
ever gave less than full effort. Guess not. Like I said,
it happens in all sports. You if you only ripped
the NBA, Well, it's because it only happens in the
NBA consistently, consistently, game after game after game after game
(33:15):
after game.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
I also when, like I know Trenion's calling their effort lazy. Yeah,
there's a there's levels of extremes of work ethic. Lazy
to me is like on the you know, that's like
meat sauce, common man level, on the far extreme. I
don't think they went out there and just flat out lazy.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
I don't buy that now, you know. I've always used
the example of there's the difference between going out and
challenging a shot and going down and blocking a shot, right,
like going into a corner and absorbing contact and maybe
allowing the player to get there first and then trying
to defend them right, like, but they're not, like they're
not trying.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Picking your spot.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Yeah, it's when I am a clown. I'm the clown
from Brows at the beginnings. I don't run from those things.
I know where I've been, where I'm going. So he's right,
I am a club. But he's fooling. He's a basketball
community guy, and he loves his sports so much, and
he loves his dear little Wolves, and so he just
believes that they're given I guess he thinks they're giving it.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
They're all, oh, they've won for in a row.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
They have, though they've said they an't said it. It
just seems like we don't even really want to play
these games. They're a playoff team, which, again, if you
are a ticket buyer, that that's hard for me to
stomach because then it's like, well, if you don't even
want to play, and why am I buying tickets for?
(34:41):
You know?
Speaker 3 (34:41):
But well, I mean, if I was gonna have if
I had my choice between a team that plays really
well in the regular season and does poorly in the
postseason or a team that does not as good asy
could in the regular season, but does great in the postseason.
They've gone to Western Coffer's Finals in a row. Yeah,
I think they might just be I think this happens
a lot in the NBA, where we're going to coach
through the regular season, but we're playing for the postseason.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
They don't do that in Oklahoma City.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
No, they don't. There, they do. They do well in both.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yeah, well's And the reason they do well in both
is because they do well in both. They give effort
all the time. They're not bored. They look at it
and say, but this is great. I play basketball for
a living, a guaranteed contract.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
They also don't have to give as much effort because
they have so many players a compete.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Yeah, they're all well rusted.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah. I mean the one thing that the one thing
that I will give you about about basketball, and I
know hockey, you know you're you know, everybody's playing defense,
but in basketball, it is your offense once, then your defense, offense,
defense office. So you're playing if you're playing hard. It's
not like in football. You know, you force a three
and out, Well, then you go sit on the sidelines
(35:47):
for a while, and you might sit there for there's
some of these drives go seven eight minutes in just
in game time, and then when you have you know,
if you have a timeout or something like that, you
get sometimes a break for a long time basketball.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Even within the plays, you get six seven seconds of
working hard and then thirty seconds out exactly.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
We're in basketball. You're going up and down the floor.
But this one says, hey, common atten a while, just
couldn't get anything going last night. It's impossible in an
eighty two game season, they're not laying ag or two,
especially after coming off twelve straight games of the point,
Gus was solid and other goals where any of his
fault things just didn't seem to click from the start.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
And yeah, well and Calgary played them well, yeah, I
mean a couple a couple of scoring chats they had,
including one goals like they just made like great saucer
pass area passes that were hard, like there was just
credit to him, like they executed the and their goalie
played well.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
They played very well, and he was standing on his
head much of the game. So yeah, we'll just we'll see.
I don't I don't have the schedules in front of me.
I don't know who the winner teams playing next. I
just know that the Vikings take on the Commanders Washington.
You'll hear that game on this radio station. Our coverage
begins at ten. The boom actually a pooch kick. Now
(37:07):
schedule for a minute or two after twelve noon, we'll
take a break.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
When we return ten, wee we'll have five three four fours.
What you got You've already got into a lot of
my five three to four. But how about we'll do
Has the roar been restored?
