Speaker 2 (00:59):
Any one of those good like five questions now, the
shows that have music in the background order to do
their questions would be a good one for all the
good shows have.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
A segment where they have music behind it. And I
know the Power Trip does, Paul Allen Project and Bumper
and Bumper, they all do that. We don't because we're
not a good show. Maybe we did that would elevate
us to a new level. How about, by the way,
that something called the sixty four some website panderine for clicks.
(01:27):
How about this time to me, let's see how do
we get clicks. Let's reach out to egotistical talk show
hosts who also have podcasts until Hey, we're gonna vote
on the very best one. You're gonna be putting the
sixty four team tournaments, like the preposterous statement tournament they
do at kapn Well, what else are you gonna get?
What you're gonna get? Talk show hosts are the ones
the egos get one of the egos, Larry Moow and
(01:48):
Curly Joe, the three stooges on the Power Trip Morning show.
Egos are very enormous. The only thing bigger than their
egos is my prostate and my guess they defeated. I
mean this switch six thing. Congratulations, You've got to be
kidding me. I take the high road. I'm a very
I'm not a sore loser. Like to slash the tires
(02:09):
on meat sauces cars. I'd like to do, but then
he can't get home. To Louis. By the way, I've
heard that he uses Louis on Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and
what's the other one? Twitter, snap Instagram. TikTok, Yeah, TikTok.
He uses his son in order to try to prop
(02:32):
up sagging ratings. I mean nothing, I think about think
about this, think about this. He's exploiting his child for
ill gotten gains. He should be embarrassed and ashamed that
he would do that. Let me guess next when Louis
When when Louie gets old, NFL have him doing a
segment on the radio with him. He just said, you know,
(02:57):
I'm I don't even want to be you know, I'm
not part and parcel of that. I want nothing to
do with that. I almost want to distance myself from
doing comedy with him too. Exploit your child like that,
I don't know why you do such a thing anyway.
So I got past my first hid yea hey carch
and who anderson ate cool?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
And then I got past the Pivot podcast the Pivot podcast?
Speaker 1 (03:18):
But what chance did I have against the the millions
of minions that followed the Power Trip morning show. We
just stuffed the battlet box. Let's vote for the Power trip.
You've got to be hitting the two podcasts and going.
You know, that Common Man program is very thought provoked,
it's very thought thought let there's it's he's ill prepared,
(03:41):
he's uninformed, unprepared and unapologetic. But you know, but I
guess there's a lot of those people like relive in
the eighth grade every day there were So that's they win. Yeah,
that's twenty fourth party. How did the birthday party go
on Friday? So yeah, I, well, congratulations to them. And
you know what the result was? I didn't see. I
(04:02):
just you know, you know, and it's like and there
are people that put stock in those kinds of things
that actually wanted to win, like it means anything. As
the last thing. I really wasn't even aware of it
that until they told me I lost, and I heard
the Paul Island Project. All he does is beaten national.
(04:24):
He's a national. Well he's an actual fury. He's he's
also in the Elite eight. Maybe they're both in the
final four by now, and then what if the two
face each other. My guess is they will. It'll be
the Paul Allen Projects nine to Nude against the Power
Tip Morning Show. Who would you vote for who can
do more for me. Cove's got a lot of money
(04:49):
that game, that initial game idea he stole from that
Kansas City. Do you think the guy in Kansas City
is just bitter? He thinks that the idea has it gone,
Cove steals it, and then Cove makes me the ends
on it. I always love that one. I don't know,
I you know what you know, I you know what
I would just you know what I was into. I'll
(05:11):
never forget this. It was my first grade at Adams
at at Elo Jagab Elementary and you would go to
the the the the the gymnasium slash theater. They had
a big stage. It was they had the same thing
at the stage and the gym. You've seen that in
the older schools. Loved the stage and the gymnasium in
the same same room. And when you would go there,
(05:31):
they would call out your name and tell you what
teacher would be your teacher. And I don't remember the
woman's name, but she was a friend of our families.
My mom was friends with this woman. And my mom
went up after my name was announced and talk to
school officials and they put me in another class because
(05:52):
my mom thought, well, that would be unfair. I don't
want because my boy is is if you know his
teacher's going to be a family friend, that she might
show preferential treatment or give him grades he doesn't deserve.
In gosh, I wish I would have been in her
class because I could have used some better grades. I
think that was really the beginning of the middle of
the end for me when it came to my education.
A lack of it has not hurt me, and I
(06:13):
can still read the writing on the wall, trust me.
But same thing with the Power Trip Morning Show against PA.
I would just all back there. They're both family to me, right,
extended family, but family, so I can't root for one
over the other. I'll just say this, ask not what
the common man can do for you, but what can
(06:34):
you do for the common man? But yeah, how about that?
Speaker 2 (06:36):
I kind of do it like when you have like
a presidential election where you don't like either candidate.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
I just kind of protest by not voting. That's how
I would approach those two. She just wouldn't vote at all. Yeah, yeah,
maybe that would be the best way to go about it.
But and then, isn't that funny isn't that funny? The Athletic,
if familiar with it, the what online sports page sports
(07:03):
sports sports is your whole life. Just sports writer from
all over the country, covering all the sports, a lot
of guys locally based here. You're Russo's, You're Alec Lewis's
your Johnny Krazinski's are your Gleamans. I don't want to
leave anybody out, and they all know who they are, right.
I like all of their work they do. They do
(07:24):
nice stuff and they give me plenty of material. They
also have their own NHL headline wild that are the
top five, that's the headline. Tend to be this this
there's a couple of different people that you know, there
are so many writers for the Athletic that they have
(07:45):
like nine or ten different power rankings right pre each sport.
This is a duo of Sean Genteel and then Dom.
I won't even try to pronounce they. This is a
guy that again, you know they always say buy a vowel.
He should just drop a couple of consts. This he
spell's name l us z c z y s c
(08:10):
y n. He's got three z's in his name. Sure,
that's a lot of z. Yeah, why don't you just
drop one or two of them and maybe drop one
of the y shorten it up a little bit. Just
be lz b lz or blt. What. So, here's what
he says about him in the five spot. Last week,
they were twentieth. Shawn's got him at four, Dom's gone
(08:34):
him at five, and all it says is twentieth. Yeah.
Before the season started, Marcus Johansen was a bit of
an afterthought for the while. That's not the case anymore,
as he somehow, they say, somehow anything, believe themselves. He
is somehow twenty points in twenty four games for a
thirty five year old with one season scoring over fifty.
That's really impressive. He's been good, right, it can that continue?
Speaker 2 (08:56):
He's doing well, He's doing it at eight hundred thousand
dollars like he's doing it then the bare minimum.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Astonishing and he's the He was the one.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Guy that when they were struggling in October, was like,
it's kind of keeping them afloat, right when they weren't
getting scoring from elsewhere.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Do you know who Sean macindoe is. Macindoe, Yeah, former
tennis player said, are you serious? He also does power rankings,
and his says NHL weekend rankings, early offseason lessons plus
three teams of surprise arcs. He doesn't put the Wild
(09:34):
in the top five, and he explains why he has them.
Does he go down to six? Let me see, now,
he just has his top five and bottom five, so
he doesn't really go a team by a team. But
here's what he so he has in this order tend
to be. He has his top five as number five,
(09:55):
the Devils, the Canes at four, the Stars at three,
the Lightning to the Lanch at number one is the
easy number one yea. And here's what he writes about
the while he says, it's tempting to find a way
to sneak the league's hottest team into the top five,
especially after they beat the Lantch. That game was a shootout,
(10:18):
so call it a tie if you'd prefer. But even
hanging with the unstoppable ass right now is impressed. I'm
getting two points in the process is a statement. Yeah,
they played with them. Unfortunately, so is a loss to
the Sabers, which is what we got on Saturday in
the classic letdown. That was an emotional letdown. That one
was a shootout too is the coin flip, giveth and
(10:38):
taketh away. But if I was looking for cover for
leaving the Wild out of this week's top five, the
Sabers proved it, he says the other rankings. He's talking
about his pals, you know, kind of taking a little
general cheap shot. I have already seen enough moving the
while under their five spot after the Friday's showdown. We
move a bit slower on this side of the weekend
(10:59):
since we're more focused on the long term. But the
Wild have been an undeniably impressive lately, digging out from
a three six and three start with seven straight wins
and just a single regulation loss in October, and that
stretch includes wins over contenders like the Knights, the Canes,
the Jets, and now the Abs, so it's hardly been
empty calories. It hasn't been enough to cause a major
shift in the projections quite yet, with Dom's model still
(11:19):
having the Wild around the middle of the pack. The
betting nods, which I don't rely on but can serve
as a useful sanity check, haven't caught up yet. In fact,
most of them still have the Wild down, with the
teams like the have Senators and Ducks. If you think
the Wild are obviously one of the five best bets
to win the Cup right now, and you're the wagering type,
let's just say there's some value to this hat value bet,
that it's a value bet. Can you play the value
(11:41):
bet thing as a handy can? I just like I
just love the cash register. I think you lift at
the sound of Cup value bet from the gold and
nut value bet. So there you go. So there we go.
Wild's getting some respect across the league, and while they
should well earned respect. Well Bright come back a little more.
(12:05):
We'll dive back into the vikings a little bit and
talk about a couple of other items as well. Here
in the common Maan program in.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
The Minnesota, the state of Hockey hosts the World this

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Basic things. That's thing.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
I mean, it's like hellosxepting exact.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Excepting. I mean, it's like, hello, You've got to be
kidding me. Huh, Sorry about that. I'm open for endorsements.
That's where I was. I was down talking the sales staff.
(14:18):
Sorry about that. Vikings lose yesterday twenty six Meat Sauce.
It's their first time being the victims of a shutout
since a Packer game. How long ago was that now?
(14:38):
Two and seven? That's still not the most embarrassing shutouts.
You remember forty one Meat Sauce. That was an NFC
championship game. That's where That's where John Madden, the legendary
who by the way, and I loved John as much
as the next person. You would have thought he had
(15:01):
just passed away the way every network did this o
to John Madden. That's okay, you know, I have nothing
against John. He's one of us. He's from Is he
from Austin or what's right next to Austin? One of
the two I can't remember Albert it was? Is he
from he was from Austin or Albert Lee from one
of them? Austin or Boston? Yeah, maybe it was Boss,
(15:23):
could have been e Dian or China. But he had
the famous where he was comparing the Vikings to an
inatimate object, and that was from that game. Tennebe might
be a have that sound by somebody? Have we ever
played this for people before? I don't think we've ever
played this. Tennabe stumbled across this. This was during the
Vikings most embarrassing shutout forty one meat sauce at the
(15:43):
hands of the New York Football Giants in the two
thousand NFC Championship game. There's something like, when you practice,
you'll set up chairs you when you run through chairs
to share zones. The Vikings defense looks like this chairs.
The only difference here was the Vikings defense really wasn't chairs.
Yesterday they played pretty well. It was the offense that was.
What are the offensive equivalent of chairs? I don't know
(16:09):
you statues, I don't know what that comparison would be,
but I do know it was tackling dummies. Yeah, instead
of tackling dummies when you're practice and tackling, the Vikings
offense was tackling dummies and blocking sleds. Is really what
they were. Alec Lewis writes for The Athletic he does
(16:31):
he's very good at his work, and he wrote a
piece and I just cherry picked a couple of the paragraphs,
including this one that says hope for the twenty twenty
five season faded long ago, both externally and internally. Now
the more relevant conversations about the future. Given the way
(16:52):
this season has played out, what is there to cling
to moving forward? This question may seem harsh, but it
feels relevant. The team has an aging roster, no certainty
had quarterback, and a bevy of impactful decisions to be
made by a leadership group who's planned for the season
is flopped. Well, I'll tell you what. That's quite the indictment,
(17:13):
but I agree with everything Alec Lewis says. There we
don't know if. And again Mark Craig wrote a piece
where he was adamantly telling people and capitalized letters it's
six games talking about McCarthy be patient, and then the
comparisons to other quarterbacks who are very bad in their
(17:36):
first six games. In legendary quarterbacks, I think one of
them was Peyton Manning and maybe another and as we
brought up them tend to be the thing. The difference
between Peyton Manning being drafted in the first round and
JJ McCarthy. I think Manning was considered pretty much can't miss,
(17:56):
and he went to a team that I think had
won two games before McCarthy, No one was convinced he
was the fifth quarterback taken. And he went to a
team that had gone thirteen and four or thirteen Yeah,
thirteen and four in the regular season and no. Fourteen
(18:20):
to three in the regular season, ended up going fourteen
and four with the loss. And then there is a
difference there. I mean, you know, again, when you're coming
to a team that's loaded or you think they are,
I mean, the window should be wide open rather than
these quarterbacks that went to teams with one win or
two When Stafford was drafted. Was Stafford drafted after the
(18:41):
Lions eight season when they went Ohn sixteen?
Speaker 2 (18:45):
I mean he was number one overall, So that had
it been well, THEYD lots of options for years that
had been But.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Can you look and see if that was I when
you go to a team that was Owen sixteen. He
was drafted in two thousand and nine, Yeah, the Lions,
two thousand and eight, the Lions went, oh in sixteen,
How would you expect well, yeah, but what I'm saying is,
how would you expect a quarterback to play I don't
(19:12):
know in sixteen team? Much like McCarthy was going to
a team that was fourteen and three oh and sixteen.
There's a large difference there. I don't know when Manning
was drafted it was by Colts. No, yeah, then he
went to Denver, Right, he was drafted by the Colts.
(19:32):
What was their record this season he was drafted, you know,
the season before. I don't know, but my guess it
was it was an awful record. And so it's to
me what you would expect guys to struggle there more
than you would for a guy, you know, put put
Matt Stafford or or or Peyton Manning on a fourteen
(19:58):
and fourteen one that went fourteen and three in the
regular season. How much better do you think they would
have performed? Alick goes on to right, the Vikings were
still in the fight, trailing just three zip with three
(20:19):
forty one remaining in the first half. Rather than kick
the field goal, O'Connell opted to go for it. Why
not run instead of throw? O'Connell said this during his
news conference today, and he said it several times. We'd
struggled to run it up until that point at the
point of attack, so we wanted to see if we
could get Max out on the perimeter with a run
pass option. Alick goes on the right. Immediately, Seahawks ed
(20:43):
rusher DeMarcus Lawrence blitz Brozmer, the twenty four year old
QB tried to escape Lawrence's grasp, but at the last second,
he heaved the ball underhanded directly to the linebacker Ernie Jones,
the fourth. Not Ernie Jones the first, second, or third,
but the fourth, who had a clear path to the
end zone eighty five yards away. And O'Connell said it
during his news conference today Timmaby, where he said he
(21:06):
takes all the blame. He thinks he called the wrong
play at the wrong time. And I mean, I I
understand the arguments to that. They you know, because you've
run the ball so poorly, the team's probably not expecting
you to run the ball. They're probably in because you
like to pass. That's your reputation. That's what you're probably
going to do. But Timmby, I don't know. I there's
(21:32):
only a couple of there's two different things you can
do other than kick field goal. But if you're gonna
go for it, you either run or you pass. Okay,
So those are the two things, and then it's the
kind of run you decide to do. You could do
a pitch out, which they don't do much anymore. You
could do a misdirection, you could do a play action
fake and haven't dropped straight back to pass roll left right.
(21:52):
I still don't. I mean, I know he's young and
it's but you got nothing. I don't. I don't know
why he's falling on a sword so much for that
or do you think it was just just just the
worst call possibly coach speak. Yeah, I think so too,
because I just don't think it's that bad of a call.
In regardless, even if you think the call is horrible,
you can't make that thrill. Yeah, well, that's that's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
The call is not worthy of seven points going the
other way that spot. I'm having a tie ball game
at that point.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
That's the exclamation point to the to the conversation. We'll
break one more segment to go. I'll be here at
the beginning of the segment this time, I promise. I
think uh. It's the Common Man program with tenn to
be here on the fan.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Okay, if any and the Bikings are teaming up or
twice for tots, join us live at Shields and Eden
Prairie tomorrow Tuesday, December second, from five to thirty am
to six thirty pm for our annual broadcast presented by Unreal,
Bring a toy, spread some joy, and if you're one
of the first fifty donors each show, they'll score a
sweet Kfan Unreal Winter beanie. That's a KFA dot com
(23:13):
slash d slash toys for details.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
We'll be there neon to three, of course, and it's
are showing its entirety of the legendary Mark Rosen will
join us just before two o'clock. The common Man Program,
It's listenership has a reputation for giving in until they
just give and give and give till they're about to
give out. So hopefully a lot of you will stop
by between noon and three and drop off toys for
(23:39):
Tots or purchase something at Shields or cash donation as well.
Love to see as one of the first fifty get
that beanie too. Cash in cash out. Will be one
of our guests tenn to be and I think I
heard Isaiah Rodgers might join us as well.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Might but it's a very fluid situation. These things can change.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
It is, it's always fluid. I don't think it's going
to be Adam Thielen. That news announced earlier today that
he requested his a leave of absence, a permanent leave
of absence. He wants to catch on with another team,
and the Vikings granted him that request, so he is
(24:13):
he is gone. What was I going to do next?
I actually had some uh oh what was it? Yeah?
Thank you? I need that had more to do with
(24:34):
the Vikings game. Oh no, I know it was. Someone
sent me an email. I haven't figured out the text
messaging yet. Well, I just I'm not going to put
my email on my phone. I tried to do that before.
I tried to have people here at the radio station
help me do it. Nobody could figure it out. So
I can't even do it. And then I don't want to.
(24:55):
I just I don't want to jump through hoops. But
I'm going to eventually do it, and I don't like
to rush into things. So I'm going to make it
as one of my New Year's resolutions. So I got
a month to figure it out. My New Year's resolutions
for twenty twenty six. Are you a New Year's resolution
guy Tennaby, Not really, I am. I like to do
a benefactor. I made them and then I periodically check
(25:16):
on them. As a matter of fact, I usually do
it quarterly and so and then I do it with
one month ago. And I just looked at my New
Year's resolutions, and not only have I broken all of those,
but I've broken seven of the Ten commandments as well. Hey,
(25:39):
but I am checking email, and this one says, I
don't get many of them now because most people I've
probably realized we've just basically abandoned the email says Lions
halftime show. What did you think of the halftime show
on Thanksgimming It's pretty cool, good day. A couple of things.
I never watched halftime shows, and two I would have
skipped this because I was throwing up at halftime. Honestly,
(26:03):
it's like to lose to Green Bay not once, but twice.
And I think I started the show with this. I
might have to apologize to Ben Johnson and everybody else's
says coordinators make a difference, because I thought, yeah, you know,
sure they make some difference, but you still got well,
the offensive line is their biggest problem now, but you
still had a pretty good offensive line, you know. I mean.
(26:23):
Then Rag now announced he was coming out of retirement,
that he passed. He failed the physical. Funny he failed
the physical after the Thanksgiving debacle, I think is what happens.
But he he had he had second thoughts. He went,
I don't think I want to come back and play
for that cloth. And can you blame him because they're
going nowhere except home at the end of the season.
(26:43):
But uh, right after the playoffs started today, the Bears
number one seed and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, and
the first round by tray would be out. It's it's
amazing to me how can change.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
And the number one seed in the NFC lost to
the Vikings earlier.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
In the year, and the team that's outside looking and
also lost Lions, lost to him too. And again, look,
I've been I didn't like Danny Campbell when they first
hired him. When I heard him do the kneecaps thing,
I thought, all he needs is a pencil behind his ear.
(27:25):
Really is just further what we've hired. I just thought
he's one of those dope coach. But he's done a
nice job. He's made that franchise relevant again. He got
them to only their second NFC championship game two years ago.
They'd been in one back in ninety one, they got
to an NFC championship game game they probably should have won.
They run twenty four to seven and a half. That
was their best and maybe only opportunity in my lifetime
to get to a big game. Then they were really
(27:47):
good last year. Heck, they went fifteen to two at
home field advantage about the playoffs, and then got beat
by the Commanders at home in a really ugly football
game for the kiddies. But Dan Gamble Campbell to go
forward on fourth down, right, And I really people think
I just say this, I don't mind that. I've always
liked teams that go on for fourth. I've said this
(28:08):
to you before ten I mean, I think you agreed
with me. Let's say my team is playing my team
is teamm and I'm playing Team B, and Team b's
got a fourth and one from midfield, they decided to
go for it. I don't want them to go I
want them to punt because they're probably gonna make it.
I forget saber metrics and analytics. I've always felt if
you've got one yard to go, go for unless you're
(28:29):
at your own ten or twenty of your.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Thirdster quarterback is JJ maccarthurr Mex Bros. Other than that,
you go for it.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
You go for it, and so I don't went and hits.
They've been wildly successful, but this year they have not.
And part of it is if the head guard of
that's exactly right, if the head coach of the Vikings
is going to take the blame for a bad call
on the Brozemer interception, which I don't really think there
was many other calls. What other call could you make
(28:56):
and you wouldn't see disaster rather than kneel down or
kick a field goal or run the ball. But on
one of them, if not too I think on Green
Bay was successful on three fourth thousands. They went out
and I think a lot of teams are just.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
They're making big plays off them too. They weren't just
trying to get the first down, and.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
I think they're I think what teams are doing is
they're they they're enjoying giving it back to Danny Camp
because he was getting, you know, all sorts of praise
and hero worship by by the national NFL media for
what a gutsy guy he is. And all they do
is get.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
As gave a psychological edge to his team and now
teams are taking the psychological edge away from them exactly.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
So then he's got a fourth and like forty, hands
off to Jamiir Gibbs and runs them into the middle
of the line. It's like, what is now? I love Gibbs.
I love me some Gibbs. I think he might be
I don't think i'd get many people to agree with me,
but I think he's the best back in pro football.
And I think he's in the conversation. He's in the conversation.
He's certainly a top five because he's explosive. He can
(29:58):
even get tough yards you can catch out of the back.
You know, blah blah blah. Really good player the other day.
Had two games ago he set the franchise record for
yards from scrimmage, like a two sixty four. But with
your offensive line beat up, and you know what that is.
That's that Dan Campbell mentality that he's brought to Detroit
that served them well. Will win physically, will out physical
(30:21):
the other team. So our offensive line is going to
push them up, not on a fourth and you know,
come on, man, do something different. So I think he
was large now had they made it on fourth and
forming on to win the game. Would I be Would
I be singing a different song and maybe a different
a different key, but I'd still be singing the same
(30:44):
song because I after a while just get you can't
do this man. He's just like and and you know
they're just not as good. Their offensive line isn't very good.
They lost him on ross Ay and Brown, but every
place that they just got outplayed out Coach Green, I
hate admitting that's a really good team and their quarterback
is coming of age, and uh, they're gonna be tough
(31:06):
to beat. And the Bears now, I don't know if
they're doing with smoking mirrors, because you know, they weren't
very good last year. I mean, they got their coach
fired last year, fired and people were wondering a lot
about Williams that they were about McCarthy. Maybe not that bad,
but just wondering was this kid was overrated? He just
hangs onto the ball, runs around like a chicken with
his head cut off, and you know it's just it's
(31:27):
all it's bad. And now they're the best record in
the NFC. But the the the Lions are I think
their window is is shut. I mean again, you know,
because it's like after they signed Hutchinson to the big deal.
They asked Campbell in a news corps and everybody laughed
and he left that or so funny. He goes, what
(31:47):
are you gonna He goes, well, we're just gonna keep
spending money till we don't have any left. Well, they
don't have any left, and they they I don't know
what they're gonna do. I have no idea. I think
they had their little window there so her Green Bay
and Chicago boasts team to continue to be on the upswing.
And we know how young the Packers are age wise,
(32:09):
then somebody else had it. I know I saved it.
I think it go ahead. Let's just say, well, you
move on.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Because you originally asked about the the halftime show, Oh yeah,
it was Jack White. And then the surprise was that
Eminem came on for a song in the middle of it.
That terrific. I mean, I love Eminem and it's a
good song. Yeah. But my point I was going to
bring up, you.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Like playing her Peanut eminems because I like playing Peanut Yeah,
even I like Peenis, but I'd rather play em.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
But my point was going to be, and you can
bring this up the next time you see a little
be even though I think she's out the next two Fridays,
but when she does return. You've always had the idea
of big game halftime show, let's come out with a
surprise performer right that nobody knows is coming, and the
anticipation and in the excitement that would lead up. And
I think that's a brilliant idea. And her argument always
(33:00):
against it was a no, it'd be impossible to keep
it secret and someone would find out.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Well, guess what.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
They kept Eminem's performances secret and nobody knew Eminem was
coming out.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
There, and he is Thanksgiving and he's as worldly famous
as Actually, that can be done. It can be done.
Here's what Mark Craig writes today in his five extra points.
His number one extra point is sorry, but this is
a general manager issue. He writes. Sunday's twenty six meat
(33:33):
sauce loss at Seattle the Viking's most humiliating defeat since
last being shut out thirty four oh by Greenby eighteen
years ago. And I would say it's still not the
most embarrassing shutout. The one was in the NFC Championship game.
But isn't just a quarterback issue. It's an overall general
manager problem. Sustained success isn't possible when your GM gets
lapped by his peers annually in the draft. Throwing three
(33:55):
hundred million at other teams. Aging free agents can't replace
building core starters in quality depth among players entering their
prime at three to five years or generally ages twenty
three to twenty six. The Vikings have four players on
their roster who were drafted three to five years ago,
one from the last year under Rick Spielman in twenty
(34:15):
twenty one, and three from the first two years under
Quazy twenty two and twenty twenty three. Two are regular
starters derisaw and Addison Derrison. Derisa didn't play someday. As
for the rest of the NFC North, the Packers have
eighteen players and twelve starters who they drafted from twenty
(34:36):
twenty one to twenty twenty three, while the Lions have
thirteen players and eleven starters, and the Bears have six
players and five players. And then Craig goes on to right,
feel free to say wow, because that's really what it is.
That that is a huge difference, yep. I mean, that's and
that's why they were in the pickle they're in now.
(34:57):
You know, forget what they do with the rest of
this season. I mean, obviously when you really need to
see that even a microcosm of hope for the next
year or two. Is you got to hoe McCarthy all
of a sudden, Yes, something, something goes off in the
next you know, because it sounds like he'll play this week.
He passed the concussion protocol, but he has to practice
one full practice. Looks like he will Wednesday. He'll be
back in the line of when we play who do
(35:17):
we play this week? Washington? Washington here and Washington gave
Denver everything they wanted last night, which I didn't see
they had for a chance to win the game. Yep.
But you have to hope he light goes off and
something that all starts to come together.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
You need him to have a yes. Per valse said
type yes. Ord Ball said, did not have a good
year last year in Iowa, right, looked awful. People were
downing him, and then he's come up like rookie the
year all of a sudden.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
I think you need to see that. I also still
don't have the answer to the question that I've asked
on a number of vacations because I know everybody wants
to pile on cousy. Everybody loves O'Connell, I think because
Kevin's you know, he's got a nice demeanor. He answers
all the questions. Sometimes they rambling questions that ever, you
(36:04):
don't really find any answer in it. What do they
call that word salad? Is that what the kids call it?
But you know, he seems like a bright offensive mind
and all that. And then you know the player seemed
we don't know, but we always hear they love him
and like playing form and everything like that. But and
so everybody wants to pile on crazy. What I still
don't know is how much input does the head coach
(36:27):
and his rest of his staff, his offensive coordinator Wes Phillips,
and his defensive coordinator Brian Floores having helping with the draft.
I just don't see one of this. This is one
of Kosi's favorite phrases. He says it almost so. He
didn't say today, but I was looking for He said
it yesterday. In any way, shape or form. He'd likes
saying that our offense just cannot playlet this in any way,
(36:50):
shape or form, In any way shape or form. I
just don't see a general manager at the draft stunning
By going with the twenty third pick in the National
Football League Draft, the Vikings have selected Jordan Addison, wide
receiver from where did he plays? Usc? And then all
of a sudden, oh, Connor goes wow, I didn't know
(37:12):
we were going after that guy. Hey, who is this guy? Now? Well,
in fact, I believe any of that.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
In fact, the video they showed after that specific draft pick,
it seemed like Kaos was trying to convince Quazy this
is the right guy. Yeah, like, hey, you're gonna you're
gonna like him, He's gonna be great for our offense.
I felt like there was a video of him basically
saying that paraphrasing.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
So, so I know, you know, and I guess Quazy
because he is the general manager, I guess he could
pull rank and say, sorry, this is who we're taking.
Maybe that's happened. Well that's true too in maybe it
happened else, Yes, and maybe that's what's happened here. But
(37:50):
I think I to me, I think they head. I
think it's it's a it's a consortium. It's it's several people.
There's more than one person making the call on this.
One guy has the ultimate he make he turns in
the pick. We know that, but I still think anybody selected.
I don't think they. I don't think they traded up
to get McCarthy and O'Connell was against it. I don't
(38:13):
believe that in any way.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Now, Is it possible, though, I could turn this the
other way? Okay, Remember in the off season when there
was Aaron Rodgers rumors, the conversations Rogers was having with
the Vikings was with Koc. They never talked about the
conversations of him talking to Quazy talking to the Wolves.
The conversations were Rogers with Koc. Yep, Is it possible
(38:36):
KOC wanted Aaron Rodgers here and others with the Vikings,
including Quazy, said, no, we drafted JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
We got to see this.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Three that could be, that could very well be, and
now he's playing with seven to two off suit.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
And did anybody want did anybody in that organization? I've
I'm almost certain I've read there were there were people
in the building and probably obviously people that didn't have
the final say that wanted to stick with Sam Darnell. Well,
I'm sure there were yeah, because I offered him a contract. Yeah,
I would have. I would have I would have stayed
with Darnell. I really would have been and not because
I knew McCarthy was going to have maybe the worst
(39:13):
six games ever in the history of pro football of
a first year quarterback. But I and I hate looking
to the East, but but I'm going, but I'm going
to Green Bay. It's It's well documented. Rogers waited three
years on the bench before he took over, for four
three years just sitting there, learning, absorbing, probably not happy
(39:34):
about it. You know how bitter he was when he
got selected twenty fourth. He had some comment about he
was going to show all the other teams in the NFL
the mistake or the San Francisco the mistake they make.
That's where he wanted to play because he's from the area.
And then Jordan Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers for three
years and then the comeback. When you and I had
this discussion, a lot of a lot of listeners and
(39:56):
text messengers and other people and even national media said, well, yeah,
but you don't want to take a chance on annoying
JJ McCarthy. You know you already missed his first season
because of the knee injury. You don't want to spread
hm ride for a second. You might make him mad. Sorry, kid,
it's a big business. Man. If you're mad, go play elsewhere.
We think we can win, and we think we can
win now. That's why we went out and improved the
(40:17):
two lines. We were fourteen and four last year, and
we're coming back with Donald Or we're getting Aaron Rodgers.
Do you see Danny Dimes is going to play with
a broken fibula? Did you see that story? He has
a broken fibula and he's going to try to play.
Did you see him dropping back in warmups? He's dragging?
(40:38):
What do you do? You can't First of all, you
can't put a guy like I think that's that's like
putting Whens out there can't even defend himself. They put
Danny Dimes that he's going to get himself killed. Man.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Well, the records Anthony Richardson, and for Danny Dimes, this
is like the moment of a lifetime for him, right.
I mean he was throwing in the He's only on
a one year contract I believe with Indianapolis, so he's
got a chance to get paid this offseason, become.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
A starter somewhere. If he's even able to get to
the postseason as a quarterback, he get paid. Even if
he's able to put what if he's with his inability
to move and protect himself in the pocket, he might
get himself killed. Never play again. I just think it's
a mistake. I wouldn't play him. I would never play
a guy that can he can barely walk, much less
(41:25):
play football.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
After seeing McCarthy and brothers over the last couple weeks,
I understood why they kept once in with the left shoulder.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
Well, it makes a lot more sense now. Well there's that.
So there's a lot of blame to be passed around here.
I think Tennabee, I'm just not ready to now.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
I am curious, And obviously we'll have a lot more
time to have these conversations as the off season goes on.
But I am curious. How you go into another draft
letting Quazy draft. Yeah, that's your point. It's probably not
just Quazy. I'm sure koc Bflow. I've had a bunch
of input, but they can't continue to miss anymore in
(42:06):
the draft. No, And I know he just got paid
last offseason, But.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
And then you look at him and say, okay, let's say,
what do you think we Let's say we don't win
another game or less we squeeze out one. Let's just
let's just say we win one. So we finish five,
five and twelve twelve. We're somewhere in the top ten
right probably.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
I mean we're almost at the top ten right now.
I think we're I think we're eleven right now, but
we're tied with tenth to ninth record wise.
Speaker 1 (42:33):
So let's say we get the seventh pick overall, just
for arguments. Sure, well, that's going to turn around the
franchise right in one pick. I mean it might be
a game changing player. You might get it. It's a
franchise quarterback. Well yeah, a franchise quarterback. But if it's
just Ed Rusher, which is great, that you gotta have them.
I'm not saying you don't get them. Which is one player.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Oh, if you give you like a Micah Parsons type
guy that can change her around.
Speaker 1 (42:56):
I guess. But I don't think what I'm saying, I
don't think it changes it around where next year, hey,
we're back.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
But at this point I don't have confidence in Quzy
identifying the Well, that's it. Micah Parsons type player.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
And then I don't think b Flow is coming back.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
I think that's very possible as well. Yeah, it's gonna
be a lot of to changes.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
I think you're probably right. It's a change right now,
change into the guard. We're out. I enjoyed it, Tenny,
thanks for having me. Hey, great job you as well.
