I should get all the reps, and it's tough getting
half the reps. You know, every rep I don't get
is the rep somebodlse is getting. What do you think
of that? Does that bother you at all? Do you
think it's much ado about nothing?

No, I think it's a great right. It's I like
where these both these quarterbacks are at. I mean, I'm
just saying from a media standpoint, sure there's some stuff.
I'm I'm guessing that vikings pr is like, you know,
do you have to say it like that or you
have to say I like the little breaths of honesty
and candidness from both of them, And it's like when
(29:06):
JJ gives a really good, just sort of company line,
mature answer, and then you have Kyler that's like, yeah, man,
this is hard, this is tough, and I think that's real.
I mean you go back and kind of look at
his career arc and you know, transfers out of a
and M to go to Oklahoma, and then he sits
behind Baker Mayfield, not a real competition there because it
(29:29):
was it was Bake's job. And then he goes off
and wins a Heisman and then gets drafted by Arizona
and then you know, offensive Rookie of the Year and
you know, we kind of know that career arc and
there wasn't really a lot of competition, and so he's
just kind of going back like, yeah, in every kind
of in every stop that he's been, he's never had
(29:50):
to split reps fifty to fifty all the while.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Learning a new offense.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
And so this is an opportunity where it sounds like
it's it's more of.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
A true competition.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
And then maybe we really thought and if he's got
to go out there and learn an offense and then
take mental reps, I mean for Kyler Murray to sit
back and have to take mental reps for a long
extended period of time and then go out and watch
his competitor be efficient and have it sounds like statistically
a better day than him. It's got to be hard
(30:20):
to handle, you know. So I kind of like the
fact that he's letting us in. Both the quarterbacks are
letting us in a little bit on how their psyche
is right now.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
I agree.

I think it's great.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Yeah, and I don't, And I don't think it's The
thing is like, I don't think it's controversial, you know.
I think it's just, Hey, this is where we are mentally,
and this is why this is a little difficult, and
it's it's a hurdle that I've got to go over,
and it's something that's new for me, and Hey, that's
the spirit of competition. I don't think it's dividing anything
in the locker room. I don't think it's making anything
(30:52):
any more tense than it is already in the quarterback room.
It just is one of those phrase things of like,
it is what it is, so they both have to
deal with it. And I think that's the spirit of
where we're at is it's going to bring the best
out of both of them. You know, it's going to
challenge them both in ways they've never been challenged before.
And I think it's just going to make both of
them better.

the next question. So, just to clarify what you're saying
is if JJ McCarthy wins this number one spot, that
Kyler Murray will be traded.

Well, I wasn't going to be criticized, so I said it. Yeah,
I think so, I'm telling you here's my I'm still
I want to go for protection. I think Carson Wentz
is the backup quarterback. Right So, if let's say JJ
McCarthy wins the battle, is all of a sudden, Carson
(33:41):
Wentz the third string quarterback because it's Kyler Murray. Does
Carson Wentz being the backup change depending on who's the starter.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
See, I'm not sold that Carson Wentz would be is
locked into be the backup. I think that in a
given scenario, In any given scenario, if we win to
the season and we didn't have Kyler or we didn't
have JJ, I think everybody would be happy with Carson
being the number two. Given the current situation right now,
I don't think at all but guarantees that Carson is

the number two quarterback. Because let's just say that we
had we keep having days like we had yesterday where
Kyler goes out and throws a couple of interceptions in
seven on seven, and you know, if you're Todd Monkin,
that's unacceptable.

Obviously we don't have.

Toddmunkin as a head coach, but no quarterback should ever
throw an interception in seven on seven, according to Todd
Monkin in Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Okay, So.

That was like, that was a big news story when
ots first started with that. They threw some interceptions in
seven on seven, and he's like, no quarterback should ever
throw an interception in seven on seven? Is it is
a a drill designed for the offense. Okay, So my
point is, in a very controlled environment, Kyler goes out
and throws two interceptions in seven on seven. Conversely, it
sounds like McCarthy has a day where he has one
(34:56):
incompletion along with a bunch of other great throws, especially
down the field on the right sideline or something like that. Right, So,
if we keep it having these yo yo days where
one's up and one's down, and this battle is truly
a competition back and forth and they're both progressing around
the same metric, well you gotta think through that process,
(35:18):
one of them's gonna be better than Carson Wentz. So
if both quarterbacks are known to be injury prone, I
don't know if we go into a game in a
week five and Kyler gets hurt and McCarthy is number
three quarterback.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
Like, would you be happy with that or would you
be like, hey.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Man, this is the opportunity that we've been talking about, Like,
this is what we knew. One of these quarterbacks was
going to get injured. So this is the opportunity for
the other guy to step up and see how they perform.
So I'm not sold that Carson Wentz, even though I
really like him and I really like him in this offense,
is the lock for the number two quarterback going into
the season.

him cocky and arrogant and unreliable. It happened on the
Speakeasy Podcast, which is not what I thought it was
going to be about, which has two point six million
YouTube subscribers and is hosted by content creator Kieran Hickey. Simple,

Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, that sounds like a Luke

It should be noted off the jump that part of
the premise for their Murray discussion was completely false. They
introduced the segment by reading stats from Tuesday's mini camp practice,
which were outlandously wrong and very blatantly made up for
engagement by a satire account on x Yeah.

It's an NFC North News fo. Yeah, he said.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
I love a super confident, arrogant player. That's good, he said,
But you know what I hate. I hate a super cocky,
arrogon player that's not that good, that's a little above average,
and that is Kyler Murray.

Okay, so they're friends.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Well, I will say I'll say this.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
I think, whether he's correct in his assessment or not,
I think, even if he's accurate in thinking that Kyler
is a slightly above average quarterback, well slightly above average
quarterback on this particular team, this is a playoff team,
you know, Like, I'm not saying that we I don't
think that we are necessarily looking for a top five

quarterback statistically to lead this team. We're looking for it,
just a competent quarterback, better quarterback, and consistent player than
we had last year won.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Nine games with horrible quarterback play.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
We have good coaching, we have great athletes, we have
guys locked into skill positions. We have a defense that's
gonna take your head off every given snap. Like, we're
not looking for a top five quarterback, it'd be nice
to have it. I'm not saying that we're not on
the hunt for one, but I don't think that we
have to have one to be a competitive football team
and get to the playoffs and make some noise.
