Speaker 2 (00:23):
Welcome back, Patrick, Morning Showy. By the way, you guys
know that that John Wolford the quarterback we brought in
h third you know he's gonna be our basically emergency.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Quarterback right here.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Was the straight up the backup when the Rams won
the Super Bowl, so he wasn't like a third stringer
for them. He was there, straight up backup. He played
a couple of games that year. Sweet yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Well, no offense to him, but again, not interested in
watching him Playee if I want to see bros merceling it?
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah, I just honestly, I'd never heard his name before,
but I forgot exist right. Yeah, So he's here, he's
good and coach knows him well, so good, good good good.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
By the way, a power trip survivor, Yes, sir, everyone
took the ramsay so it could be again.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Sue.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
They play the Saints. I think they're fourteen and a
half point favorite.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Okay, I hate that we all took the same team,
but it's good. I'm gonna I want to.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
I'm gonna win.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
You probably will.
Speaker 6 (01:22):
I don't know if I will or not, but I
do know this.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
It's time for some sports.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
But did my books?
Speaker 7 (01:29):
Fan five on the Power Trip presented by Builders and
room Modelers, Hey Banks, Builders and Remodelers.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
The Minnesota Twins have named Derek Shelton their next manager.
I think it's going to be official today, but every
baseball source in the world has said that's to be
a choice. Derek Shelton bench coach for the Twins in
twenty eighteen and twenty nineteen. He spent the last five
plus years with the Pittsburgh Pirates as their manager, so
he was temporarily under monitor, then under ball Deli. Then
(01:59):
he was the Pirates manager for five years. He is
the next Twins manager, and he'll be on this show
a week from tomorrow. Power Trip debut and Initials debut
for Derek Shelton.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
I've heard this term quite a bit, especially in the
last twenty four hours, and I have to admit I'd
never thought about it before.
Speaker 6 (02:16):
What in the sweet hell as a bench coach.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
It's basically like a plaint it's like an offensive coordinator,
it's like an assistant head coach. It's somebody who basically
runs the day to day for the manager.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
But if that's the case, then why isn't Wes Phillips
the bench coach for the Vikings?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Well, I mean, I think it's just like a different.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Term offensive coordinator for guestball.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
But like he runs like the day to day stuff.
Probably puts together a lot of the drills and whatnot,
like the after practice snacks and whatnot. Yeah, like what
would you pick like goldfish or or old slice or
Derek standing.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
So basically we don't know, is what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
I'm telling you he's he was good to select the
actual bench just like the kind of wood that they use.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
Does he determined?
Speaker 5 (03:02):
Fine?
Speaker 6 (03:03):
He rubs his forehead with.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
To exactly.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
No what No, his fingers and wouldn't basically like his
right hand man that does what he's like things Ray
Donovan baseball stuff.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
He's a fixer, Yeah, he puts, yeah baseball.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
I don't have kids no more. I go to him.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Paul on behalf of the Power to the Morning Show
and it's listeners, Thank you for that excellent explanation.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I mean it wasn't great. But the second I talk,
it's but you're an idiot or stop or you don't
know what you're talking about.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
What happens to you at home?
Speaker 4 (03:43):
But we're at work right down.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
No, no, no, that situation, we move out right. He's
the first Twins manager with prior managing experience. Since the seventies,
they've always hired people that don't have any and whatever.
(04:09):
It worked with Ron garden Hier, didn't work with Paul Molitor,
but still a great dude.
Speaker 6 (04:14):
I like that guy.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, this is I mean whatever.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
They weren't going to hire, you know, the Rolls Royce
of managers because you say that word, the Lamborghinia managers.
Such guys, I mean the managers. Yeah, the Corvette isn't
Bruce Bochi. Yeah, what kind of vehicle is he? Will
you say this to his face next Friday? No, he's
the Toyota's her cell of managers. I'm not ripping him.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
No, it sounds like it. He's not the Ferrari or
the Lamborghini though. Yeah, he's just a bench coach.
Speaker 6 (04:47):
It's like a Ford Maverick.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Is that a real car.
Speaker 6 (04:50):
Hell, Yeah, man used to be a car now.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
I haven't seen the movie Maverick in a long time
with Mel Gibson Jody Foster.
Speaker 6 (04:56):
That's a game changer.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
I think they're playing cards in there.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
It can't be that good. It's actually pretty good. That's
a movie. It's the Ferrari of movies.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Yeah, the Ferrari in movies. It's the stagecoach of movies.
Speaker 8 (05:12):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
The Los Angeles Lakers won at the Buzzer last night.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Well, geez, a floater down the middle of the lane.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Austin Reeves at the buzzer twenty eight points, including the
game winner one sixteen, one fifteen. The Wolves had a
furious comeback, but they got burnt at the buzzer. Stevencenzo
right there, Rudy right there, Neither one of them really
got a hand in his face, and Austin nailed it.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
So Reeves has twenty eight. They win.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
The Wolves fall to two and three. The Lakers are
three and two. The Wolves are at Charlotte Saturday at five.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
It's five games in. It's over for Rudy. It's over, right, Max,
So I think it's over.
Speaker 8 (05:52):
I think a lot of people were already predicting that
Rudy might just fall off a cliff metaphorically this year,
not literally, but but yeah, it seems like he not
the same caliber of player that we're that we're.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Quite used to.
Speaker 8 (06:03):
But it's there's no Anthony Edwards, and it is it
is early in the season, so it's kind of it's
kind of hard to completely diagnose the team.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
And I mean not for nothing.
Speaker 8 (06:11):
Austin Reefs has been on absolute fire this last three
I think he had fifty points through a couple of
games ago, forty game, forty points the game before this,
and then twenty eight here plus the game winner. So
it's it's always going to be tough to win without
Anthony Edwards. But Julius Randa looks great, Jade McDaniels looks
like his offense has taken a step forward. We just
we just got to get ant back in the mix
to see what this Wolves team is truly capable of.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
The Minnesota Wild host the Penguins at seven o'clock. The
Wild that are struggling. They're three five and three. Pittsburgh's
the opposite. They're on fire, seven two and two, including
four one and one on the road. Sidney Crosby eight
goals through eleven games and he has seven assists. Couple
of Minnesota connections with the Penguins, they have former wild
defenseman Matt Dumba on the squad.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Remember Matt, Oh yeah, great dude. And they also have
Blake Lazatte from.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Chicagoago Lake, Chicago, his very own Blake Lizatte grew up
in Lenstrom, Minnesota Huskies.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
I mean the Wildcats. Let's let's take it down that good.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
That's what they used to say to Sauce when he
went into the store to my pass.
Speaker 9 (07:14):
Boys, you know, I.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
You can be all you want. You're like, hey, what's
a bench coach doing? I'm like well, and then you're like,
bad bit an idiot stopped talking. He had questions and
you didn't seem to have any. Why were my questions?
Speaker 8 (07:33):
Horse?
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Bleep?
Speaker 4 (07:34):
I asked what he did on a day to day.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
He's the right hand man.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
And then the second I make a mistake, you throw
me down then the ground like that old lady in
the I can't.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
I don't think anybody's that's true. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, sorry.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
And the I've fallen and I can't get up. Lady
wasn't thrown to the ground. She fell, She wasn't assaulted.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah, you pressed that life once there, baby, pull your
hands up.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
The fallen and I can't get up, lady. He's not
a predator. He doesn't take advantage of opportunities.
Speaker 10 (08:15):
He's the one.
Speaker 8 (08:18):
Third to the ground shooting. I forgot about that great shout,
But man, that was Is he some in prison?
Speaker 3 (08:26):
He should be?
Speaker 5 (08:28):
I mean he's like he was, he's breaking into assaulted, Yeah,
I mean he should be ladies homes and rape.
Speaker 8 (08:36):
Yeah, let me see if he's got to be in prison.
I don't know he's doing all that.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Mentally handicapped old Oh they were some of them were.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
God yeah, no, no, I think he was as well.
The right one. Yeah, he had some weird stuff going
on to U.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
On February nineteenth of twenty twenty one, he agreed and
accepted a fourteen year prison sentence.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Should be longer than fourteen years. I don't know he's
doing it. Y.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
We gotta break dot com, Tom and Gernard, I believe.
In the next segment, yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Well that's time about him. Well that's Tom. What a
bench coaches? Right after this?
Speaker 11 (09:13):
I'm the fan, alright, so I think we got to
(10:34):
the bottom of the whole bench coach controversy.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Yeah, I think we got that figured out. I think
we're all on the same page there, what's that again?
Speaker 6 (10:41):
I'm sorry by now, but.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I think we all know what a bench coach is now.
Speaker 6 (10:44):
I gotta figure it out now.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah, I think you'd be good at thought. We don't
have to ask Tom.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Let's say, hey, bench you sit there, don't you move.
There's a lot of a's for you to support and.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
We need it.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
I still I think that's my favorite thing about this
show is let's say you're a Twins fan and you
don't listen to the Power Trip won't show. You're like,
oh man, the Twins hired Derek Shelton's at the old
sports station saying about it, and you flip on the
Power Trip and you got about nineteen idiots going.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
What's a bench con well like for the team?
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (11:22):
I think it's basically like a second opinion. They help
what they like day to day stuff. They keep explaining,
we got it.
Speaker 6 (11:31):
Tom doesn't know. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Maybe Tom does not know things smart.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Tom, do you have any idea what a bench coach
does for a baseball team.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
I've always been under the impression that the bench coach
is basically a buddy of the manager who he just
needs to find a title for.
Speaker 10 (11:48):
It's like every I think, every different level.
Speaker 7 (11:50):
You know, whether it's you know, the guy who had
the equipment guy on a hockey team at certain levels,
or you know, in football, it might be you know,
the not even chief of staff.
Speaker 10 (12:00):
It's like the assistant to the head coach. It's something
where you're just you're finding a way to like another
good guy to have around. I think that's it.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
He's like the Dwight Shrewd. Then he's the assistant to
the assistant regional.
Speaker 10 (12:15):
Bench coach.
Speaker 7 (12:16):
Were Dwight Shrewd or somebody else who was constantly causing issues,
they wouldn't last long. I think the bench coach is
just like a cool bro that you like having around.
Speaker 12 (12:23):
Gotcha, so making sure that like the Hubba bubba is
always stashed and you've got enough sunflower seeds and all
flavors for everybody.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (12:31):
Like, I think he's just the guy who goes around, like,
you know, patting people's asses basically, Like I think that's it.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
That's game.
Speaker 10 (12:39):
Yeah, Hey, hey, let's go, buddy, let's go. That's it.
I don't think. I don't think there's anything else to it.
Speaker 7 (12:43):
I don't think I assume being a major league manager
is even like that difficult. They hand you the GM,
hands you a card with the analytics and says here's
your lineup, and then you just walk around going, hey,
how you doing?
Speaker 3 (12:52):
All right?
Speaker 10 (12:52):
Great? The bench coach is like your sidekick, he's yours.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Can you imagine how fun it must have been being
a and as you're back in the day where you
just you put in a bunch of shoe, you walk
out to the mound and you just go off your gut.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Like what do you feel? I feel like you can
keep going.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
And you have a ten second conversation if the guy's
like I still got it, coach like all right, stay
out there.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
That's like that was your entire job wentz this past weekend.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
I mean, yeah, well, and now you got to read
numbers and charts and stuff and analytics.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
It's not as fun anymore.
Speaker 10 (13:23):
It's all loves to see.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
Like when you know when the manager walks out there,
Max Schurzer is just MFI was just walking out It's.
Speaker 10 (13:29):
Like he's just like Okay, okay, I got it.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
I got it.
Speaker 7 (13:31):
Like that's old school. That doesn't happen anymore normally. It's like,
well the computer said you're.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Coming out now, Well we got again, Tom Hell Sarah
from NFL Networks.
Speaker 6 (13:38):
Thanks to our friends at Bell Bank.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
I'll get you all the info in a moment, but
thank you bell Bank for the paid forward program and
for all you listeners out there for participating in that.
Speaker 6 (13:45):
Tom.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
There's so many things to talk to you about. But
of course we know the win situation, we know he
had surgery. We can get your comments on your thoughts
on whether he stayed in too long, if it all
went correctly in your opinion, But more importantly for us
as Vikings fans, now we're looking forward JJ take the Helm.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
What do expect against the Lions from JJ this week?
Speaker 7 (14:04):
It's gonna be really fascinating to see. You know, he's
had time to get the ankle to a place where
it feels really good about the mobility, which was always
a huge piece of this. And for the first time
since before the opener, he's taken real first team full
reps in practice. So I think that you have to
set realistic expectations if I'm the coaching staff, I just
(14:24):
want to see is he playing on time? Is the
ball going to the right spot. There were certainly times,
you know, in the Falcons game and even early in
the Bears game, where it just seemed like things are
a little bit frantic, maybe sped up in the pocket,
and you know, rather than standing in and going through
his reads, he's kind of getting off and seeing the rush.
I just want to see a guy, you know, who's
going out there and being comfortable. I'm sure that Kevin
(14:44):
O'Connell have a great plan for trying to get JJ
you know, into the rhythm of the game. You still
got really good skilled players around him. You're going up
against the Lions defense. You know, that's been you know,
had some bumps along the way so far this season,
but they've been playing pretty well of late. And obviously,
you know, Aiden Hutchinson just got a you know, about
(15:05):
a quarter of a billion dollars to keep rushing the passer.
You know that that's the first guy that you've got
to stop. You know, you got to keep Aiden Hutchinson
Parthy's life miserable. The fact that it seems like the
tackles of training the right direction would definitely help.
Speaker 12 (15:20):
All Right, I want to I do want to go
back to the Carson Wentz thing only to get your
perspective because I find it.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I'm trying to think of the right word. I think
it's been.
Speaker 12 (15:31):
It's silly, the amount of traction and the vitriol and
the anger that the football world, even Viking fans have
about the way everything was treated. Because I look at
this as this is no different than any other player
that's going out there with an injury. Your week six
or seven into the football season, every single dude out
(15:54):
there is playing with some sort of injury. Yes, it's
much more front and center because you see the pain
that he's in. You know that he's wearing the armbrace
and the shoulder harness and all this other stuff. Baker
Mayfield had this exact same injury and he played through
it years ago, and nobody was like, we got to
take this guy off the field. You've got to protect
this guy from himself. Are you a little surprised at
(16:15):
all given the state of the NFL and what will you?
Speaker 9 (16:18):
What?
Speaker 3 (16:18):
It really is that that.
Speaker 12 (16:19):
The Vikings organization and Carson Wentz has been like connected
into this like conspiracy theory, so to speak.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Well, I feel like the Vikings quarterback ground has been
subject to NonStop conspiracy theories for about two years running now,
So no, that part doesn't surprise me. And that is
the reaction. If we're talking about social media and fans
and media, that's that's what sells is you got to
have the strong take and you know, condemn things that
you don't know about. I'd say, you know a couple
(16:48):
of things here, Ben, you played in the league, and
you're right. I mean, guys play hurt all the time.
I think that sometimes when you hear the details and
you hear the medical terms for what was going on,
it's like, oh my yeah, Like how in the world.
It's like guys are playing with injuries all the time
that you the average person wouldn't go to the grocery
store and walk around with you'd be in a rascal
(17:10):
before you'd actually be you know, walking around, you know,
picking up some you know, stuff to make meat loaf,
like you know, even like yesterday when Cam Scataboo, the
details of that injury come out and it's like, whoa
not just a dislocation, it was a fracture and a
torn ligament. It's like, yeah, did you see his foot?
It was at a ninety degree angle. Like that's how
that happens, is you tear stuff and you break stuff.
(17:31):
With Carson Wentz, if you know, if you talk about
it in terms of the medical terms, you dislocated the shoulder,
torn laborm and fractured the socket. Well, first of all,
that's what a dislocated shoulder is. It has to tear
the ligament to come out, which is why when that happens,
your options are a harness that holds it in place,
you know, keeps it from sublexing or dislocating again, or
(17:54):
you have surgery and you get it fixed. And some
guys play years. I mean Dalvin Cook literally played four
years with a torn labor m in his shoulder. There
were times where it would pop out again and then
you'd see him come back with a harness, and then
it was the back and forth of all. I don't
like wearing the harness, you know. With Carson Wentz, this
was a pain management issue. It was about how uncomfortable
(18:16):
he was and how much pain he was in. But
you know, you made the point on Baker Mayfield. Yeah,
this is a it's a chip fracture, that's what it is.
Baker played with it. He was in a lot of pain.
He was dealing with other injuries at the time as well.
But you saw the same type of a you know,
boxer in the tenth round type of thing where you
kept going, how is this guy getting up? You know,
should he be coming out? But Carson Wentz wanted to play.
(18:38):
Start there, Carson Wentz wanted to play. This is it's
to his non throwing shoulder, and this is not an
injury that gets worse. Yes, it is hard to watch
it every time, even when he's not getting hit. There
was that ball that got tipped up in the air
and he reached for it and you could see the pain,
but you know, the harness was holding the shoulder in.
It was a matter of, you know, how far could
he push it, how much pain could he deal with.
(18:59):
Carson also threw a touchdown in that game and celebrated.
You know, when it was not painful for him.
Speaker 10 (19:04):
He was able to go out there and function.
Speaker 7 (19:06):
The Vitras felt like he gave them the best chance
to win.
Speaker 10 (19:10):
That's why he was on the football field. He was
not making the injury worse.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
He was not you know, he's not having surgery now
because they left him in He's having surgery now because
he just couldn't deal with the pain anymore. And you know,
he showed remarkable toughness to stay on the field as
long as he did. You know, this was not you know,
from a medical perspective, from a coaching perspective, I've talked
to a bunch of people within the league that this
was not malpracticed by anybody. This was a quarterback who
(19:36):
wanted to be on the field. He functioned for two
and a half games with this injury. It just got
to be too much and the smart thing to do
was to go and get it fixed at this time,
which now means it's JJ McCarthy and Max Brosmer and
John Wolford on the practice squad. That's who you're rolling
with Barne to trade by next Tuesday and we'll get
(19:57):
a taste on Sunday against the Lions And what exactly
this is going to look like?
Speaker 5 (20:00):
Tom, how much do you think it was he possibly
knew that was the last time he'd ever play in
the NFL.
Speaker 7 (20:07):
Well, you know, you never know when your your opportunities
are going to end. Sa Uce, I mean you know,
could it be sure? But he wants to keep playing.
He's got his fourth child on the way in a
couple of days here. You know he wants to continue
to go out there. But you know, in order to
do that, yeah, long term, you know, you don't want
to just leave the shoulder like it is now and
then be in pain next offseason. By getting it taken
(20:28):
care of, he should by next offseason be ready to roll.
Does his opportunity come in March? Is it in May?
Is it in August? Is it in October? He's at
that stage in his career and playing for as many
different teams as he has where you just don't know
that from year to year. You know, this was not
you know, a pitcher who knows he needs Tommy John
and just throwing until the the UCL ruptures. And this
(20:50):
was you know, a guy again it's his non throwing shoulder.
It felt terrible obviously when he'd land on it, and
it was getting progressively worse in terms of the.
Speaker 10 (20:57):
Pain and the discomfort. The injury was what it was.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
I don't think that this was you know, him feeling
like this is you know, my final shot and they're
going to drag me out of here. It was more
so he wanted to be there for the team. He
doesn't know how many opportunities he's gonna get. You know,
he gave it as all. He helped them, you know,
be able to go out there and get a win
against the Browns with that injury.
Speaker 10 (21:19):
It just you know, it was too much for him.
Speaker 7 (21:20):
And so you know, now we roll forward here and
see exactly you know, what it's going to look like
for the Vikings quarterbacker in the future.
Speaker 12 (21:26):
All right, Tom Pela Sara brought to you by our
friends at Bellbank. We love you guys at Bellbank, so
appreciate it. My question then kind of shifts into Sunday.
I know that the point spread is what it is.
It's rather large in NFL standards, and a lot of
people are a previewing this game saying the Vikings have
zero shot to win this game. From your perspective, though,
(21:47):
could you sell us a little bit of hope, Like,
are there storylines along with this Vikings team that you think, hey,
if they do this and they do that, they've got
a good chance to walk out of Ford Field with
the victory.
Speaker 7 (22:00):
Would start with what we witnessed last Thursday night, against
the Chargers.
Speaker 10 (22:03):
It's a short week. Christian Darisa tries to give it
a go.
Speaker 7 (22:07):
Can't make it just you know, four day turnaround, three
days really with an LA flight, it just wasn't happening.
Brian O'Neil again, short week, couldn't make it. You know,
they're really playing with like their fourth and fifth offensive
tackles behind a backup quarterback who's in pain every time
he gets touched. I mean, that's that's a lot, you know,
just to begin with here, and so you know, I
(22:29):
don't think that was really representative what we saw last
Thursday night of what this Vikings team can be. You know,
Andrew van Ginko being a full participant in practice yesterday,
it would be huge to get him back for the defense.
Speaker 10 (22:39):
We'll see.
Speaker 7 (22:40):
I know he was non committal in terms of whether
he plays on Sunday, but generally, when a guy goes full,
as a lot of people learned from the Ravens fiasco
over the weekend, if you're listed as full, that means
you are taking your normal reps, which for Andrew Van
Ginko would mean starter reps on defense throughout the course
of practice. Again, we'll see whether or not. You know,
he feels like he can go, and the medical team feels,
(23:01):
you know, confident that that neck is not going to
be an issue. If they get him back, that would
be a big deal. And you know, in terms of
the Lions, you know, I don't know that this is
a you know, completely unstoppable unit.
Speaker 10 (23:13):
You know, they face the Chiefs.
Speaker 7 (23:15):
And they didn't play particularly well in any phase in
that game. So there is a formula to get after
these guys. They're really talented. They're one of the best
coach teams in the league, led by Dan Campbell. But
we've seen other teams, you know, slow them down through
the course of the season, whether that was in the
opener against Green Bay or was that game that they
played against Kansas City here. So you know, Brian Flores
(23:37):
is going to find, you know, unique ways to attack.
You got to keep Jamir Gibbs from killing you, number one.
You know that's their their best player. He can hurt
you in a lot of different ways in the rushing
phase and the receiving phase. You know that Jared Golf
is going to find ways to play on time. But
if you can disrupt that timing, you can potentially disrupt
Jared Goff and then offensively again, a lot of it's
going to come down to how do they go about
(24:00):
design a game plan in supporting JJ McCarthy If they
can get him in a rhythm early. You know, you
got Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, DJ Hockinson, and your
backfield back you would think now at full strength, where
Aaron Jones was a little bit limited last Thursday night.
And then like again the offensive line, Ryan Kelly's not
going to be back, but if both tackles are able
to go, that's a really big deal for this team.
(24:23):
So I'm fascinated to see it. You know, we all
know how it went last year in Week eighteen. It
was the game that I don't mean to oversimplify, but
certainly it was a game that drove their decision not.
Speaker 10 (24:34):
To go all in on Sam Donald.
Speaker 7 (24:36):
They've always had a high level of faith in JJ McCarthy,
but when people now are watching what's happening in Seattle going,
how could they let.
Speaker 10 (24:42):
Sam Donald go? Number One, they made him an offer.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
I mean, they did try to bring him back, just
like they made a pretty comparable offer to Daniel Jones.
But it's like, if you watch that Week eighteen game,
and you watch Sam Donald play the worst he played
the entire season. I mean, this was the playoff game.
Was a mess on every front. Sam Donald was the
main issue in Week eighteen. I mean, how many throws
did he miss wide open to JJ or Justin Jefferson
in the end zone. They could have flipped that game
(25:06):
in the early going. You know it wasn't perfect, But
we've seen the Vikings play this team. Well, let's see
if they can put it together. Maybe surprise him a
little bit with a quarterback that we just haven't seen
play a whole lot over the two years he's been
in the league.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
Final point or two before we let Tom go because
Jonathan Greenard should be joining us here in a side.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
That's the end of the plan.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Real quick, before you, is that one hundred below in
your house? You look, you've got a stocking cap on
is window there?
Speaker 10 (25:32):
The honest answers. I got a haircut after.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
This, finally, the Jesus about time.
Speaker 10 (25:40):
The only hat I had in the office, so I
threw it on real quick.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Oh my god, oh god, get a haircut, lucky jeez.
Speaker 6 (25:47):
Good.
Speaker 10 (25:48):
Twenty minutes from now, twenty minutes from now, Jenna will
be taking care.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Of it here. Must be nice. It sounds like she's
coming to your house. Personal assistant. Anyway, and get over there.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Okay, Tom, this will be the last time we tell
you before the trade deadline, which is Tuesday. If you're
a Vikings fan, what should they be watching for before Tuesday?
And how much does Sunday's game impact that trade deadline
on Tuesday?
Speaker 7 (26:10):
You know, one game should never impact that. I think realistically,
for every team in the league, there's some level of impact,
particularly if you're a team at the Vikings that's three
and four kind of hovering around the middle and figuring out,
are we trying to make a run or you know,
if they lose that game and they fall to three
and five, it's like you're talking about darn, you're running
the table to get into the playoffs. I know the
quasi's always going to be aggressive. He's been working the
(26:32):
phones this week. You'll continue to do that. I right
now sitting here, wouldn't hold my breath for some type
of a massive swing. You know. Obviously, depending how you
know JJ plays on Sunday, there will be speculation about
should they go out and trade for a quarterback? There's
one guy in Atlanta sitting there making a lot of
money who has won a lot of games.
Speaker 10 (26:53):
And played good football in Minnesota.
Speaker 7 (26:55):
I don't get any sense right now that that's realistic
going and getting Kirk Cousins for the Vikings. But again,
you know, let's see, let's see JJ. First of all,
get through a game and then figure out what the
plan is going to be for the rest of the season.
You know, just speaking broadly to the league, there's a
lot of teams that need dead rushers, there's a lot
of teams that need corners, and certainly there are some
(27:15):
teams that need running backs and receivers as well. I
don't anticipate the Vikings being big sellers at the deadline either,
but again, if something's there in terms of value that
makes sense, I wouldn't rule out, you know, anything including
making a trade that might you know, reinforce the Vikings
draft capital as we move forward. But in terms of
anything being imminent right now, there's nothing imminent on that
(27:35):
trade front. A lot of this stuff, though you'd hope,
is going to pick up, because this has been about
as slow of a month leading up to the trade
deadline as we've seen in recent years.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Real quick at Jonathan Gernard, Minnesota Viking is on the
phone with us right now. Do you have any bad
blood with Tom pellisera, Jonathan, do you have anything you
need to say to NFL Networks?
Speaker 9 (27:52):
To man? From what I see, he's always only given
everybody the update, so I'm always looking at stuff or
following his name on the social media. So no shot started.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
There you go, I'll let.
Speaker 10 (28:04):
Ankle, Jonathan. Are you good to go this week? Let's
get something here?
Speaker 9 (28:07):
No, for sure, Yeah, I know I'm not missing it.
Come on with the joy. I'm not I'm missing that.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
Thank you, Tom. We'll you next week, buddy, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Yes, good luck with that haircut, you hippie. Tom Pella sero.
Jonathan Grenard joins US Weekly. He's the best. Jonathan.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Do you have you ever had a weird running with
a media member? Ever had any bad blood even going
back to college or beyond.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Blood?
Speaker 9 (28:33):
Probably some like weird interactions, but uh, if anything you
probably seen me before partly on social is probably like
maybe I guess getting the record straight for real of anything.
But nah, I never had any bad encounters because, as
we know, you got to have a good relationship with
him order for them to kind of keep talking good
about you and inno sense. So I just try to
keep on a little level plan for a level surface
(28:56):
level relationships to make sure we're all good.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
Jonathan penny Soul is probab we the best right tackle
in football. What's your scouting report on him?
Speaker 9 (29:05):
Yeah, as you just said exactly that, I mean literally
if not one of the if not the best right
soack out there. I mean outside of you know, Brian
O'Neil here for show. But but I think that he's
a good athlete, man, dynamic athlete, big big body guy
who can move his speed, get out of the space
and do a good job with him. But yeah, man,
it's gonna be a game because obviously physicality is one thing,
(29:27):
and I think that's that's what he does really good.
And I think that's the next part that we got
a match on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
These games with Detroit are always find the ones in
Ford field are always fun as well.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
This week you finally get a look at.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Your other side of the field and see Van Ginkel
lining up as a full participant.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
How much does that help you and how good do
you feel to have him back?
Speaker 9 (29:48):
Yeah, it's always great to get get your brother out there,
but specifically gigging on what he can do for the
team and obviously does in the game. Man, he's he's
a game worker. I think that he asked another dynamic
element to have a to deal with both of us,
you know, Dallas being in there too. So now would
get our three headed monster back. So we're we're we're excited.
Speaker 7 (30:05):
Man.
Speaker 9 (30:05):
I'm excited to see him back being with the guys
and see him out there and practice and stuff like that.
So I'm excited to do on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
Was it essentially impossible to not have a ton of
respect watching Carson Wentz battle last Thursday through all that pain?
Speaker 9 (30:19):
Oh yeah, I mean we already know that Cross is
gonna give a one hundred ten percent no matter what.
I see him do that at other teams, So I
knew exactly what we were getting when we signed him.
So definitely much respected to shout out to Carson as
he's uh as he put literally everything on the line
for it, So that's what that's that's our guy.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
You ever had a moment like that where you had
to fight through a ridiculous amount of pain, but you
didn't come out of the game.
Speaker 9 (30:41):
Yeah, I mean, I feel like every every athlete, well
every player has done that for sure to some extent. Man,
I think that it's a part of the game. You're
gonna get nicks and bruises, and you're going to be
feeling a lot of things, but just the sheer will
if you wanted to win and be there for your teammates.
It's hard to kind of, you know, you know, make
a decision in that moment to hey do I sit
out there, do this and that? So we're all going
to be playing until we literally get drug off the field.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
You know, I don't know anything about being an NFL player,
even a college football player, but I do see from
the outside. It's just a fan the different coaching styles.
When we're talking about a KO and Dan Campbell.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
How would that?
Speaker 2 (31:18):
How do you prefer to be coached somebody who seems
to be you know, I'll just say like this, Dan
Campbell talked about biting people's knees and his opening press conference,
is that Is there any kind of coaching you prefer?
Speaker 6 (31:28):
Does it even matter to you?
Speaker 9 (31:31):
It really kind of doesn't matter. I can understand where
you like get it from like, you know, kind of
having the leader of you know, a guy who you
would say is more grittier, a different style. I guess
the way he talks are conveys the message to the
media or to his players, But overall it's about just
the intention when I see on the field in practice,
like how you vote by to the days and practice,
how are you trying to get your guys to kind
(31:51):
of move with a certain montra And I think that
with ko I mean, he may be kind of like
the like you would think he sounded like an even
killed guy, you know, you know, laid back, kind of quieter,
you know, obviously still aspired to this. We all know that.
But Kale's no slopsh man. I think that just because
it's not more animated that you would see the other coaches.
I think that he can kind of give you a
little bit of everything.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
You know.
Speaker 9 (32:12):
He can be the guy who can kind of just
let the players do their thing and not really say much.
And he also be the guy can be in your
face if he has to be that, you know, But
majority of the time he has guys on the team
already that are professionals that don't really have to have
that done to them for them to get them going.
But I think either coaches said as well, you see
that coach Campbell has done the mazing job over there
turning network around in having those guys bought in too.
(32:34):
So it's just a matter of what it's a matter
of what type of players you have on that team.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
How much of your mindset changes knowing that this is
a team that will go forward on fourth down with
about any distance at about any point in the field.
Speaker 9 (32:49):
Yeah, no, that that's a huge thing. I think that
that's just why you gotta continuously don't give up any
players at all. I mean, it's all about getting hats
to the ball and let them get a little extra
yard where it should have been a tackle for loss
or maybe a tackle for three yards and it turns
into seven yards, not a you know, starting three or
fourth and three as opposed to you know, fourth and ten,
you know what I mean. So, just the little stuff
(33:10):
like that, the leaky yards are a big deal with them.
They definitely take advantage of that, and they like their offensive,
like their scheme, which how can you not honestly, So,
I definitely see him as a challenge to definitely make
sure that we continuously knock them back and don't let
them get anything for them to get kind of that
confidence to so that they can do that.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Jonathan Grenard, Minnesota Vikings joins the Power to your morning
show every week. Jonathan, We've asked you a lot about
quarterbacks in the past, and specifically JJ McCarthy, and you've
said a lot of times, you know, like, look, that's
not my side of the field, that's.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Not what I worry about. They do what they did.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
But you obviously see him in practice. This is McCarthy's team.
He's gonna start on Sunday. But we got a little
glimpse of Max Brosmurger just for a second at the
end of last Thursday's game. What have you seen through
you know, a couple of months now of getting to
know Max Brosmer, What does he like in practice and
what is he capable of doing if he ever gets
a shot?
Speaker 9 (33:57):
Yeah, I definitely, you know, Max is the fellow Georgia kids.
Just let Julle and myself, so he always gonna have
a love and respect for me. But Max has been great.
He's been on the scout team doing the looks for
us on our on our side of the ball for
a good bit. So I've seen it, and even i've
seen it in camp, him making great throws obviously, and
being able to be decisive and things like that. Him
(34:18):
and j J pretty much always talking and kind of
kicking each other's brain. And Max is a lot matured
than a lot people understand too. It's not like you're
just your younger kid who's just clueless about anything. He's
very articulately knows the systems pretty well, can kind of
grasp a lot of things. So I think just having
a guy like that on the team who is supporting
his well in that supporting role, supporting role, excuse me
to JJ, it definitely helps him out. And I can
(34:39):
see that he's very beneficial. So whenever he gets a
chance or whatever, you know, God forbid, if he has
to come in there, and whatever circumstance it is, he's
gonna do his job. We always, uh, you know, prease
that next man up mentality anyway, so for him to
be ready, and you know, I always have that confidence.
We definitely are excited to have him, you know, as
another option as well.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
All Right, go get that ankle healthy, good luck against Detroit,
and we'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 9 (34:59):
Man, appreciate, So I have a good one.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Thank you, buddy, appreciate, Thank yeah, and thank you to
Sarah and everybody down at the Vikings because obviously there
were a lot of different difficulties this week making that happen,
and they never gave up and we ended up getting
him on Thursday.
Speaker 6 (35:12):
So thank you. So I very much appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Like Tom, which was a really nice transition.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
That could have been really bad. Yeah, that could have
been a real I was hoping it was. To be honest,
I was looking for controversy. I was hoping like, hey,
I got a bone to pick with you, but no,
nothing like that. Hey, I want to say thank you
again to Tom, Belisara's Well and Bell Bank. And you
can nominate your charity for the Paid Forward program by
going to KFE dot com putting in the keyword Bell.
Speaker 6 (35:34):

while working within the borders of Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (36:08):

Go solar, right, yeah, do that solar solo. A woman
is demanding fifty thousand dollars from SeaWorld because while she
was riding a roller coaster, she got knocked unconscious by.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Uh well, had to be a seagull.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
Ummm game SeaWorld.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
Um like a starfish, small fish, somebody threw somebody threw
a fish monkey.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
It's the guy from the Muppets that throws fish. You
know that guy I'm talking about, he just doess like
this whole bit is he just chucks fish. Look at
that guy's name. Happy birthday. You guys were right with
the bird. It was a duck. A duck hit her
in the face. The duck she got knocked unconscious. She's
suing for fifty thousand dollars. She's demanding fifty k. She
says SeaWorld should have warned her about the danger. You know,
(37:24):
like when you're getting on roller coasters and every every
amusement park has a giant sign.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Beware of ducks.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Yeah, they might hate you in the face and they
all want friend chips. Well played, well played, hugs Daddy,
thank you, sauce to see if you remember this, Okay.
Thirty years ago, Eminem's gave the public a choice, what
do you want blue, purple or pink and blue one
The fan vote went to blue.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
What color? Thirty years ago did Eminem's eliminate and swap
out with blue?
Speaker 6 (37:59):
Like I know this?
Speaker 3 (38:00):
Yeah? Was it sound red? Chris? You think you know?
Speaker 9 (38:07):
Go?
Speaker 6 (38:07):
I think it's brown? Am I right?
Speaker 4 (38:09):
Uh? No, You're on the right path, though, because they
still definitely have brown ones. But you're close, you're close, close.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
To I have no idea.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
They got rid of tan, they got rid of the
tan ones, and they replaced them in blue.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Yeah. Yeah, are great, peanut butter.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
I don't know, man, what happened to me, But it
might have been covid. I'm serious, it might have been.
I don't nothing taste right to me anymore, specifically candy
bars and chocolate.
Speaker 6 (38:46):
It's weird. Yeah, didn't taste right. I used to love it.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Hey, you know, we talked a week or so ago
when I watched that yacht rock doc on the flight
to Europe. Yeah, and the guys from Toto basically said
that they thought Africa was garbage and they didn't really
want it on the album. Yes, wow, No, but they
just didn't think the song was that good and they almost.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Didn't want it on the album. And now it's one
of their biggest hits.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
I guess Billie Eilish same thing. Birds of a Feather
she thought was dumb and should have been cut from
the album.
Speaker 10 (39:14):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
It was Spotify's most stream song of last year, with
one point eight billion streams, and now it's over a
three billion and it's her closer at the concerts and
she thought it should be cut because she said, guys,
this one is kind of stupid. Oh wow, almost didn't
make the album three billion views later or listens later?
Speaker 3 (39:35):
That nuts.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
Yeah, speaking of music, if you want to feel.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
Old, sauce, don't need anymore of that.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
How old is Gavin Rossdale of Bush Today?
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Of Bush? Think about this man? Sixty?
Speaker 4 (39:50):
That's exactly correct. He is a sixty year old man
as of today. That doesn't that make you feel old?
Speaker 6 (39:57):
Billy Corgan so good. I really enjoyed that.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
I've never seen them and I love them. I've never seen.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Hand rip the music because I my headset screwy say
I've never seen Bush. And that'll do it for the
Power Trip Morning Show on a Thursday morning tomorrow, Standard
four for initials.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
Don't forget.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
Derek Shelton, new manager of the Twins, will be Initials
contestant next Friday.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
But Tom is a normal four. That'll be super cool
to meet him, meet the new.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Twins manager to see how that works.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
What do we add?
Speaker 4 (40:31):
We had one hundred and three hundred and twenty five.
What are we at tomorrow? I think it's two five
either way, it's over one hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
That's the key.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Well, we'll give you the specifics tomorrow at eight fifteen.
I assume Crisol's back tomorrow. The normal gang tomorrow five
