Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is this Freulin Gutierrez? How did I do it? That's
how did I do it? Yes?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Awesome?
Speaker 1 (00:06):
How are you my man?
Speaker 2 (00:07):
I'm doing good? How are you doing?
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Fantastic? Because I got a lot I want to talk
to you about Freulin. I don't even know where to begin.
First of all, it would begin with working with Cheryl
Blossom herself, Madeline Page. I mean, I don't know, I
won't even be able to memorize my the lines that
I've memorized, I would immediately forget upon her gaze.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, she's an incredible and incredible actor. She was also
an executive producer on these films, so it was really
incredible to get to watch your work and get to
build out the chemistry and the relationship between our characters
Maya and Ryan.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
And I'll tell you what, I don't know if it's
upon you getting the gig, maybe that you watched The Strangers.
I mean that goes back away twenty years or so.
I would say that around when when The Strangers came
out and that was just scary. That's a that holds up, man,
that's a scary movie.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean the the one from two thousand
and eight, the original with Lin.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Tyler's Yeah, okay, there's two classic all right.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's like a cool classic for a reason.
You know, it's there's there's such a realism to it
in a dread and a terror to that. And actually
I hadn't seen it when I when I was auditioning
for this project.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, so you went and watched it. I'm intrigued to
find out about you know, how far back we're going.
You know, I have a twenty one year old daughter
and a soon to be eighteen year old son, and
I think it was only about a year ago. I
was leaving the house one night and they're like, hey,
we're going to watch The Strangers tonight. I'm like, let
me tell you what. That movie's gonna freak you guys out.
(01:52):
And they mocked, and they mock me. You know, they
love horror movies. They love psychological thrillers. So one of
their favorite movie used the last couple of years was Hereditary.
They love the insidious movies, but this one in particular,
I'm like, this movie's gonna freak out. And to this
day they still say, remember how bugged out we were
that night? Because that's a setup. It's a knock on
(02:13):
the door. It's the weird staring with no actual dialogue.
A lot of imagination had to go into Okay, let's
go back aways, let's go long before this, And I
can't wait to see it. It opens in theaters this
coming weekend. And Rennie Harlan as a director, I mean,
(02:34):
you know that's a big name director. How did he
get attached to this project? I don't think he directed
the first one.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
No, no, he didn't. I don't know how he got
attached to it, But I'm really glad that he did,
because I think his touch really shows in the final product.
Like we did all these really incredible practical effects, and
we had these really fun sat pieces, and yeah, it
came out looking really incredible and really realistic because because
(03:02):
we got to use so many, so many real things,
Like everything was was like yeah, like there on the
set and the set decoration was so stunning and so
realistic and so grounded, and a lot of a lot
of the action sequences were filmed like on the day
and like with practical effects, and like there's an act
(03:22):
going through the door as a trailer that you can
see and that was actually going through the door. It
was actually like a foot away from from from Mad's.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Space, and there's got to be some big action scenes
despite the fact that the original Strangers was very quiet
and not not a lot of big, you know, in
your face scenes, because this guy, you know, he did
a die hard movie, he did Cliffhanger. I mean, he's
not necessarily a horror guy. He's a big summer blockbuster guy.
(03:51):
Although I think he did do one of the Nightmare
on Elm Streets. Rannie Harlin, Uh yeah, yeah, yeah. So
he's got some horror in there. And and you you've
got your teen Wolf days as Nolan Holloway there. That
was a huge hit that show is. My kids watched
every season of that show. So this is a great
score for you, and I wish you the best of
(04:13):
luck with the Strangers in theaters this weekend. And it's
Freudlin Gutierrez again. I appreciate you you coming on and
continued success.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Thank you so much for having me. Man
