KDWT the.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Dave Ryan Show on kd w B.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
I have to give a shout out to a woman
named Chris, and I know she's listening right now. Chris Segla,
we're live here at Mall of America. How you guys
doing You're still hanging in there. I don't know what
you're sticking around for. You think there's going to be
a raffle at the end or something. It's like you're
looking for a I mean, no, there's no door prizes.
So thanks for sticking around. I appreciate it. I didn't
(00:33):
expect anybody to show up, so to see that you're
here and still here makes me question everything you do.
So thank you, Thank you guys very much. Shout out
to Chris Segla. You may not know her, but you
know all the work that she did over the years.
Chris was our promotions director. And she is not able
to be here because she's had some serious surgery she's
(00:53):
had she's getting giant lip implants, so no, she's had
some she's had some surgery, so she can't be here,
but she behind so many of the things we did,
like the roller coaster marathon at Valley Fair, when we
had people ride the wild Thing for like ten days
straight and they wouldn't stop. When we had people live
inside of a biffy to win Backstreet Boys tickets at
(01:13):
the Backstreet Biffy at Ridgedale, mall years of bunny money,
all the different things that we did. So shout out
to Chris Speedy recovery and I hope the lips turn
out just the way you want them to go. Somebody
else that was on the show, like, you're one of
my favorite people. You were on the show moderately briefly,
do you remember Wilson from our show?
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Wilson was so sweet That surprises me.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
And Wilson's like, I'm not gonna calm Nobody remembers me.
He don't know they do. And more importantly, I remember you.
I'm here for you. And Wilson and I were the
same because we're both kind of cranky and cynical and judgmental. Judgmental.
Don't worry, I won't judge you until you leave.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
And then I'll talk. Yeah, that would be rude to
say it.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
So give me like, I know what your favorite memory
is of the show, and you can describe this or
you can go with another favorite memory of the show.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Well, I believe you're talking about the Big O incident.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Okay, yes, yes, tell us about that.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Well, Dave wanted to make me cool, which is an
impossible task, so they created this will Wilson do it?
And it was an entire list of everything was associated
points and I had to get a hundred points and
then Dave would send me to GRACELAMD because I am
now a.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Forty two year old illness land.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah, super cool, and so the things that they put
on this list were ridiculous. So amateur night at the VU,
I believe that was like forty points.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
Did you do it? No? Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:47):
No, I did all the Like I smoked a cigarette.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
I took a shot of sambuca. That was when we
had Bob Barker's microphone.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, that was the same day. Also the same day
we did blind Luck and I to do I had
to take a shot of epicac and then you're like,
can we fild me.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Standard?
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, And then the very last thing that I had
to do was I had to fake an oh on
the air when my parents were listening and the night
before the only reason I did it was because my
grandma said, ah, what's a couple of ooz?
Speaker 4 (03:22):
And as you get.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
So, I'm like, all right, I'll do it. Please turn
off the radio.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
So I had three goons standing in front of me, Dave,
Steve and Chris go staring at me. They turned the
lights in the studio down. Yeah, they had a bag
of Doritos too. I don't know why you had that,
but they turned Marvin gay on. I'm like, this is
the most awkward moment of my life.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
But it's for Elvis.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yeah, and I understand.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, I know you do. So I did that.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I think you suggested that because I loved When Harry
Met Salad.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
I watched it twice in a row. And you're like,
that's so nerdy.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Why do you do that?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Well, I just love the show.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
And so that was the big time you sent me
to Graceland.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yes, was, And so check this out. So she goes
to Graceland, she's always wanted to go. We get her
on the air live from like the parking lot of
Graceland and we're like, so, Wilson, how is it.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
I don't remember here's what you said. It's all right,
that's all right, son of a. I paid for this.
You pointed something.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Out about myself that I have thought about every single
day since. He said Mah, Wilson doesn't like it, and
I'm like, I don't like pickles, I don't like the beach.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
I don't like summer. I don't like people who hung
There's a lot of things I don't like.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
And I I apparently I'm just free with saying it.
I've never noticed it before, and you pointed it out.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
This is what I do.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
And now I think I'm just your curmudgeon and I
can you can commiserate with me.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
I love you. I love you so much. Wilson, everybody,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
I don't know if.
Speaker 6 (05:01):
We're really prepared for what's coming up next, but I'm
going to let you guys know that we have talked
to Stephen and told him he needs to keep it
under control. But I think we are going to do
a slow jam. It's a pre scold pre scolding him.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:15):
Yeah, so his daughter is here now, so I think
he might keep it under wraps a little bit.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
But we'll see Steve.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Oh, I know. Yeah, we're doing a slow jam now, okay, good.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
Okay, I think we can take one quick break here,
we'll play a song.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
We'll come back yet, I'm.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Happy you were ready? Cold is doing so good?
Speaker 4 (05:36):

Well Broadcast.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
You'll having a good time? Are you good? You're bad?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
I was just saying, hide Kate Rattit's who was that?
She used to be a big deal. She was over
on Channel four, Dave, and she's she's long forgotten?
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Now how long do we start for her?
Speaker 5 (06:04):
How long until we started saying that about Dave?
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Long forgotten? He was a big deal? Whoever that guy
was long forgotten?
Speaker 3 (06:12):
So we do have one one more highlight of the
show that's probably a bad idea, and that is the
slow jam portion of the show. And so Steve O
is going to do slow jams with me. You're not yet,
you don't have started yet. So what we're gonna do
is we're gonna find a couple from the crowd.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
I actually think I have one already. Oh you do.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Okay, let's go very eager. We're gonna hi Steve, You're
ready for this.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I need you guys to come up up this way.
Come on, come on, come on, come on.
Speaker 3 (06:37):

find out a little bit about them, and then Steve
and I will will perform a slow.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Jam for them.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Steve, are you ready?
Speaker 4 (06:44):
You pen to write some of this stuff down?
Speaker 5 (06:46):

Speaker 2 (06:47):

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Do you guys still have a show sheet?
Speaker 2 (06:49):
That's crazy? You silly goose? You all right? You guys
ready for some information? Yeah? Okay? So what are our
couples names today? Tracy? Yeah, Tracy and Jack?
Speaker 6 (07:01):
Your face these two as we talk, and then we'll
have you face the crowd so you can get embarrassed
while they sing.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
All right, we got Tracy and Jack? What questions do
you have for them?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Are you married? Are you and married? Married? Okay? When
did you get married? Thousand and six? Did you get married?
Where'd you get married? Wilmington, North Carolina? Okay?
Speaker 2 (07:20):

about Jack when you met him?
Speaker 4 (07:28):

Speaker 9 (07:28):
Obviously his looks okay first of all, and he's hilarious, okay,

Speaker 3 (07:34):

Speaker 4 (07:41):
I really liked her friend. Okay, this is.
Speaker 10 (07:44):
Not what we wanted, but keep going. This is going
well for us, and.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Only because the friend was easy.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Huh, It's true story.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
No, I genuinely fell in love with her personality and
obviously her butt.
Speaker 8 (07:56):
Okay, and the obviously that's how Susan found day.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Not in the look. So what do you what do
you argue about?
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Every couple argues about something you know that that you
don't put the toilet seat up, or or she leaves
toothpaste in the sink, what do you argue about?
Speaker 9 (08:11):
I think I am very like, I just love life,
so I just kind of do go out and I'm yeah,
I'm like, he's like my security guard and make sure
that I don't, you know, talk to strangers and cup
over everything.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Would you agree with that, Jack, unless they're attractive strangers?
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Yes, okay, gotcha? Favorite a body part on the that's
a good one.
Speaker 2 (08:33):

Speaker 6 (14:58):
I believe that a little right here, and then we're
gonna hit the song here cold.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
They met on a military base and when Matt first
saw Shanty, he said, it's time to standard attention.
Speaker 10 (15:19):
Six to midnight is his middle name. When he saw Shanty,
he wasn't the same because he's serving that ass every night.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Matt said to Shanty, we can go to waffle house.
I can buy some pancakes and bacon and eggs. But
what I'd really like you to do is take your
mouth and swap that deck.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
It's alone.
Speaker 12 (15:46):
Yes, it's right. He's so right, because Matt said, let

You're like, Steve, have you ever seen a Roman soldier?
Speaker 4 (17:29):
And I go nope?
Speaker 5 (17:30):
And it was right on my forehead.
Speaker 4 (17:33):

(18:01):

Speaker 2 (18:01):
We still got thirty minutes, though.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
I think we have to have Pastor Catherine come up
and say, a player, here, we do my favorite bit
then real quick. It's your favorite bit where you have
to come up with an Urban Dictionary phrase for a word.
So for example urban Dictionary. Oh god, okay, what would
you think is uh the Beethoven?
Speaker 4 (18:21):
What's the Beethoven? Uh?
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Okay, the Beethoven is While you're doing it. When you're done,
you slam her slammer fingers in the piano lid.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
I don't know. I think it's pretty close.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
How about the how about the log cabin? You got
one for a log cabin, the log the log cabin. Yeah,
this one, yep, yep. You take her up north and
uh and then you get her all sweaty and then
when she starts smelling like a bass.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
So that's when you do it's when you do it.
I don't want to do this bit. This is this
is a stupid bit.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
One more, one more, one more?
Speaker 4 (18:59):

Speaker 3 (19:26):
The Coon Rapid Steamer is when you're you're, first of all,

cousin Skeeter, and you and cousin Skeeter are cruising around
and is f one fifty with a rusted front quarter

Speaker 3 (20:57):
I mean, I met the guy who hired me, Mark
Bulky was here.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Said hi to him. I met him years ago.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
I told you the story about the joke that I
told the job interview that I thought it cost me
the job. And then I just saw my friend Curtis,
who we did the all gay half the all gay
half day fishing trip, that's the title it was. And
then my friend Johnny, who is known for wearing a
coonskin cap.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
You know what a coonskin cap?
Speaker 14 (21:27):
No?
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Do?
Speaker 2 (21:27):
I want to know what it is.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
It's a rac coontail hanging from a hat.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
He's outgrown that phase, but he's still trashy, so I
still love him.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
We are going to bring.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Up a special guest here in a second, but first
we have somebody.
Speaker 12 (21:40):
What.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
Yeah, Jill from all of America is going to come
up real quick here, I know, yep, come on up.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
She's the reason we are here.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Yes, come on up, Joe. What She's got something a
little special for You're you, by the way, Dave right
you are?
Speaker 6 (21:57):
Yeah, hop on here. The mic is off there, but
you can hold that one. Yep, got it.
Speaker 14 (22:03):
I am doing great and we are just so thrilled
that you are hosting the special broadcast here at MAM
America because you have been a legend here. You have
done so much with us, from events that you've hosted
right here, yes, yes, all the community engagement, your book signings.
You have been a fabric of our entertainment and we
just want to say thank you from our entire team.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
So we have a very special gift basket.
Speaker 4 (22:25):
For gosh wo.
Speaker 14 (22:28):
But what's not in there that I wanted to share
with you is we are going to give you a
lifetime pass in Nickelodeon University.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Are you serious?
Speaker 14 (22:41):
I am serious, because we want to have you come
visit us time and time and again.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Oh my god, we'll hand it over.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
You're going to forget, and I'm not going to let
you forget to get away with that. Hand it over
right now.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
I don't have the physical past here.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
I don't have my wallet on me right now. No,
you're trust I trust you. You are tremendous. One of my
favorite family stories is with the Mall of America back
when it used to be called Camp Snoopy many years ago.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
A lot of people still call it Camp Snoopy.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Of course, it's Nick Universe now, but Allison was about
three years old, and she's standing over here somewhere. She's
a mom now, she's got kids of her home.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
In the back there she is.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
So Allison didn't want to go on what they called
at the time Paul Bunyan's log Shoot, but is now
just the log Ride, right, And so I wanted to
go on it because it's my favorite ride.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
And it was like a Friday night, around nine o'clock.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
We were just about to leave and I said, Alison,
if you go on it, I'll buy you a candy necklace,
and she would call it a necklace.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
You'll buy me a candy necklace.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Yes, So we went on the log ride. She was
not happy on the way down. I have the picture
on a mug because they used to take pictures over there,
and I have a mug of her wailing her little
heart out on the big hill down. And for the
next two years she didn't want to go on any ride.
We went to Disney and the only right she'd go
on is that lame thing, the train that goes around
(24:06):
the park. What's that called the train? The train the
people move, right, I think, right? Yeah. So there's so
many memories here at Mall of America. Almost everybody in
this crowd has got a story from Mall of America
and something wonderful that happened here, whether it was their
birthday party or memories or shopping or meeting Santa or
the Easter Bunny or whatever. So thanks for all that
(24:28):
you guys provide. I mean people who come here from
like all over the world to see this place.
Speaker 14 (24:33):
Do and look at this community loves you and we
will remember you first.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Thank you, Thank you, You're true kind. Thank you very much. Seriously,
where's that pass? Where's the I promise I'm gonna wait
here until you get it. I'm not gonna have this happen.
Are you here?
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Yeah, we appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Thank you so much. I appreciate thank you.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
We had a guest on the show just over the
phone earlier, but now he was able to make a
physical appearance. So we are going to bring up Chrisco. Now,
come on at Crisco.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Hey buddy, Hey buddy, how are you good? How are you?
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Chrisco used to come in and he would never do
any work, and he would he would, he would, he
would say, well, the rest of us were furiously working
on the show. Chrisco would say, you guys, she family guy.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Last night, We're like, we're trying to work over here.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
I mean, I think put a little respect on it.
I also played Addicting Games dot Com in the other
room all the time, a lot of Mini, a lot
of life favors Mini.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Where's Chrisco? What's he doing? He's being He's on Addictinggames
dot Com.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
And I never needed to record anything, but anytime somebody
would stop and I'd be like, uh, this is Crisco
and KDWB and here we are.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
I was just making stuff up at that time.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
It was a very very dark part of my life,
but it was great dark part. But you were you
were like just a kid. You were like eighteen years
old when you started as an intern on our show.
Speaker 7 (25:57):
The first one of the first memories I have is
I was at one of your big birthdays. It was
and I remember it because I had no money and
I was driving to your birthday and I had to
give the gas station a license, yes, because I had
no money to pay for the actual gas. It's so
I had to go back, which I'm like, I could
have just left my license. Who cares, I don't care.
I mean, it's probably illegal, but I still would have
just left without it. So it was such a fun birthday.
(26:19):
I remember that. But yeah, that was the first moment
I realized. I'm like, oh, there's no money in radio,
and here I am.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
And here you are. You're still making no money in radio. Now.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Crisco, he used to be a bigger guy, but then
he started taking this snake oil called healthy Trim.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
Do you remember taking the Healthy Trim? I do? Do
you guys remember when Chrisco was on Healthy Trim?
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Hawk in that garbage medicine, the garbage over the counter garbage,
I mean.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
All the different slices of life that I am. It
never sounded legit because I was always like, well, I
went running today, I went hiking today, and they're like, no,
you didn't. You didn't even get out of the desk,
but you look great.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Seriously, I saw Crisco last night and I said, who
is this hot, skinny young man? And so we I
seduced him later in the parking lot over at the
West End.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
It was pretty hot, so it was I was a
willing participant. I appreciate that. Yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
All the people on the show all over the years,
you worked with Lena.
Speaker 7 (27:13):
I worked with Yeah, so I worked with Angie to
start okay, and then I worked with Corey. I worked
with uh Lena, I worked with Angie. No, I already said, Angie,
this is my now my memories yeh yeah yeah. But
then I'm with with Fallon, Steve in turn John. I mean,
I really worked with pretty much everybody, and including you, Dave.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
I worked with you.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
We loved you, Chrisco, and you've done so well for yourself.
And don't go listen to a show because it's I mean,
it's subpar. It's it's pretty weak. I don't know if
you've heard it. There's a lot of dead air lots
and a lot of sexist comments. But you know, but
oh wait, that's me. Sorry, wait a minute, that's I
know this show. But thank you, Chrisco. You're a good friend.
(27:52):
You're one of the funniest, friendliest people I've ever met,
and I just love you.
Speaker 7 (27:55):
Oh I'm so glad I could make it down here.
It was awesome to be on the show with you earlier.
And it's just such an honor to h to have
spent any time with you on the radio, because it's
never lost on me that there is no anybody here
in radio without you, because it's you started so many
careers and you've made so many lives changed because of
what you've done.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
On the radio. Very kind. It's the Twin Cities is
better for having you in it.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
So that's very kind. Thank you, my friend, Thank you, buddy.
We're gonna hug. We're gonna hunt.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
We're gonna we're hug it out. Okay, they're getting up.
They're getting up. They're hugging. They're hugging.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Oh, Christal slips some long and a zero.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
He pinched his biscuits all right in his ear.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
What do we have time left to do? We're out
of time, aren't we.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
We're out of time, Dave. So it's your turn.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
I want to say this. Chris Coop was saying a
little while ago. He was saying that none of us
would be here without you know me. But I thought
what he was going to say was none of us
would be here without you, and and I really mean
that because you know, we can do a radio show
all day, but if there's not people like you that
come out and support things like this, and whether you
listen for a couple of minutes a day, or whether
you listen to the whole show or a little bit
(28:57):
or here and there, you're here, and I appreciate you
so much because you've made my life. You really have.
This has been the centerpiece of my life. I started
here when I was thirty, and that was a long
time ago. So there will never be anything like my
experience here at at KATIEWB and here with you.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
So I'm so glad you came out.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
If you didn't come out and you're listening at home
or wherever, thank you for listening, Thanks for getting here early,
Thanks for staying through the whole thing. I wonder what
you got to priorities, people, priorities, but thanks for missing work.
And somebody, where's the woman who missed her divorce court appears?
Where's there's she's seriously, she may be here somewhere.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
She canel like. We found out that that was a man.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
They took them two years to get into divorce court
and they decided to cancel it so they could be
here today. And that's the kind of stuff that men
just melts my heart. I really, you know, we've had
we have so much fun. Our job is to have fun.
And on the show and at the same time, show
a little softer side here and there and talk about
things that a lot of people don't really want to
talk about, everything from mental health to the different struggles
(30:07):
in life.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
And we all have struggles in life.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
But I think if we can do our job and
make you forget about those for a little while, we've
done our job, and you've done your job by helping us.
So thank you so much. We really appreciate you. Yeah,
thank you, thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
One more show, thank you, thank you, Wow, thank you
so much that.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
The kid from the chicken farm in Colorado would have
never believed, never believed any of this.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Thank you so much, thank you, And I think are
we done. We still have one more show tomorrow too.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
This is not the last show.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
We have one more show tomorrow, So listen. Tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
We'll be inside the sixty story space Needle Studio and
we'll be doing that tomorrow. It'll be a little bit
different show, but we'll have lots of memories and lots
of best of we'll play the old Bond bit and
we'll play Barney Goes to the Bathroom and violence, Fight
Song and all the things that we've loved over the years.
But thank you so much for coming out. We appreciate you. Thanks,
we out
