Assurances an election campaign promise to tackle high merchant service fees has been in the works for some time.
Labour is pledging to regulate fees banks charge businesses for contactless payments like payWave.
Small business spokesperson Stuart Nash says a discussion document was being prepared before COVID-19 hit - but the pandemic put the kibosh on the ability to consult New Zealanders.
He told Newstalk ZB's Simon and Phil how much Kiwis could save.
