that just happened right then and there.

Oh well, I was working at my parents at a store,
and I was working at a barbershop sweeping here, so
I was saving money and that's how I was throwing
these parties. But we got kicked out of every ballroom
because it was a one and done type of thing.
Why we didn't leave it the way we got it.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
So he was out here wrecking the place. Yeah, but
were you doing like twenty one and under parties or
seen parties? Seen parties?
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Okay, so you're seventeen. Ye got money from sweeping and
doing whatever, and you throw a party.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, but I got into music because I didn't have
a choice. When I was sixteen, I got into a
car accident at sixteen, Yeah, and I was grounded. And
my oldest brother, Celeb, was a DJ at the time
and started with the promoter and he taught me how
to DJ, and then I was in the house. I
couldn't do nothing, so music just became my passion.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
You were hurt in the car accident.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Yeah, I flipped on the train tracks. You were driving, Yes,
I was intoxicated. Oh no, I took my older brother's car. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Wow, that's an early lesson. Yeah, do you still drive?
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I drive in Jersey my cars, But when I'm not
in Jersey.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
No, I don't drive. I stay in the back of
the I only know because I had a bad car accident.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I know.

Sometimes that driving thing, you get traumatized.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
A little bit, like flash like yeah, like PTSD. Basically
I f like accents. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah, it was a rough though.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
It was a rough patch in my life because my
mom used to always take the bus and after that,
she still can't see that site till this day. She
won't because by the school where she used to go
to work, and she would take a longer route to
get home because she just couldn't see it. It was tough,
but I feel it worked out for me better where
I am now.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
So you were sixteen, you got in the car accident.
You're home because you can't because you're injured, right.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yeah, But like it was just bad because the kids
I was with at the time. There there was two
kids in the car too as well. One of them
had got injured badly. But everybody's better today. But then
I got in trouble with the court system. Like I
was a house arrest. I was on anger management, but
I'm like accident. And then the judge told me, if
I see you again, I'm putting behind the bars. I'm like, yeah,

I don't really think I'm gonna be in down belong
in jail. And then I got a anger management and
like why did you have anger manager hitting me with everything?
It was just insane. I didn't understand it.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Were you showing signs of anger on the i'mt me.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Tell you what I have ange. I went to anger management.
The first day they said what are you here for?
And I said. The kid next to me is like, oh,
I break glass and put it under my Mouth's pillows
when she sleeps oh, said, yeah, I don't really belong here.
I flipped a car. I'm not going to do that again, bro,
And then within a week I was out of anger management.
Oh my god, it was crazy.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
You never seem like an angry guy to me. I'm
be chilling, pretty pretty chill.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, I'll be chilling.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
So thank god that wasn't worse. Yes, So you home,
you learn how to DJ because just.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Like your oldest brother had equipment in the basement, and
I just fell in love with music. I used to
my cousin make fun. I used to always grow watching
Rap City and all that stuff in the basement.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
So sixth thing, you're doing that seventeen you start throwing parties.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yes, And then my brother met Jojo when he was
a promoter to book him, and that's how I got
cool with Diggy, and that's how I got in with
the Simmons family.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Mm hmm, the whole Simmons family, right, they all messed
with you.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Yeah. Yeah, I used to stay there at times. We
were on tour for like three four years, me and Diggy.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Wow, that's a great start. Yeah, that's how it starts.
And then what happens when that's over.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Well, I feel like when you see like my presence
on stage, like for instance, Powerhouse, even though they were French,
because I started backwards. I started in arenas and stadiums
before I started in clubs basically because I feel Yeah,
so I feel like the stage presence from Reverend mentoring
me and putting me on with the jam Master Jay stuff.
I felt like that's what got me the way I
am with the microphone. And then after you know, Diggy
(10:32):
decided he didn't want to rap anymore and pursue acting
and other stuff. I said, I got to figure it out.
And then you know, other artists reached out and I said,
I'm very grateful for what the Simmons family did for me,
but I don't think I can ever just stick to
an artist again. And that's one thing Jay Irvin taught me.
It was another one of my mentors. He was like,
(10:52):
cause you're just going to be that shadow. You can
be next to them, but just don't stay with them
your whole career because when they're done, what are you
going to do? So that was like an early life
on lesson for me in the DJing career.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, that's good advice yeah, so then you go and
you start your own thing.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Well, Star started putting me in certain clubs. He was
in shot the l books, he was there at the
early on stage. When I was in the clubs, I
was there eight o'clock. I had to be home at eleven.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
I was there early because you're younger.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Yeah, I was young. And then I started djaying certain
rooms from ten to four, getting paid one hundred and
fifty dollars if I got paid.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Wow, And what year was this? This is not that
long ago?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
This was well, no, this was if I'm thirty three.
This is like when I was nineteen twenty twenty one,
like around like I got back off to like twenty
twenty one, like around that age, and I was DJing
for peanuts on hundred dolls hundred fifty dollars. But I
just won't loved it so much. I just loved the
clubs and just being around music. And then I started
making music.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, and when did you Cause you're like a relationship guy,
like you have people just mess with you, right, like
you have, especially like young artists want to come up.
What is that?
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Like?
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Is that do you put effort into that?
Speaker 2 (12:03):
I think it's like certain people I watch growing up,
Like with the artist relationships is like the pro style
and envy, like seeing how they are, they had the cars,
they had, they would fly, they had the jewelry. That's
where like some of my stuff comes from. And it's
just I think they adapt to that because I'm like them.
But like we do similar things that you would never
think artists would do, as like my say a boogie.
(12:24):
Today's ago, we're playing pickaball till two in the morning.
It's just things like that, Like it's different. So I
think that's where it comes from, because not everybody's genuine
as you would know in this industry. So when people
see your genuine, I think kind of attracts to you
in a sense.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Is a Boggie good at pickaball?
Speaker 2 (12:37):
He is very good. It was my second time playing,
and he takes advantage.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
I golfed with a boogie. He was not good, no, no,
but he was good. He was great because he was
his first time ever and he really showed like genuine
interests in like learning it. I was so like, I
was like, I love this.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
He told me a movie to watch on pickaball on
how to play. Oh, so he's pickaball game, like when
he serves, I'm kind.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Of sad that we lost him to pick a ball
that golf pickball, but that's okay, yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Pick a ball. Yeah. They played three times, four times
a week. I'm learning now it's my second time. The
third time tomorrow playing. Yeah, he had hit the ball
and it curved. I'm like, hold on, I need a second.
This is not what that is. But it's one though,
it's different. He's such a nice guy, right, he is
my brother.

I really like him so much.

He's genuine.

Shout out to ay boogie, but not just a boogie
man like I know many powerhouses. It was like, I mean,
you have whole set to powerhouse. It'd be like the
Big Artist, the Big Artist, and then spin King and friends.
And that's not for no reason. That's because you got friends.

Like yeah, no, they are my guys. You know, they
pull up for me. They probably shout to the baby
shout to you know. One person I always wanted powerhouse,
but we only got to do iHeart in Florida was
pop Smoke. You know, there was even people that couldn't
make it. Sometimes the powers I had like a special guests.
He just couldn't get their own time. It was four
years ago. I'll never forget it. It was asat Rocky

he was gonna come out for me, but Anaya was
just born. Well, two years ago, Star's youngest daughter was born.
He's like the hospital to hear I'm not gonna make
it and I'm by myself. I'm not dressed. But it
goes like show us. Like you say, relationship is really
my brother. Like he gives me advice on everything like clothing, dressing,
like how to He has this idea where he wants

me to start DJing with a crown with gems in it.
And of course, yeah, but it's just like having that
around you, the support system. It comes from a good place.
So that's why I do tell you, like I say
with confidence, I am going to get a number one
because the people around me want to see me get
a number one. So that's why I feel that way.

That was insane, that whole building.

You know what's so crazy is that moment. It's hard
for people forget that. Like there was a moment in
time where he he showed up. You brought him that
story is the whole building? You want to tell them this?

I wasn't planned.

So it was powerhouse? What was happening? Why was he
so big at the time?

came out. It was just insane. And that was the
first concert here performed at in New York.

asked THEA. You know, this is my first year of
being on power and I was like, what do you

And I was like, okay, it was with the shot
so I get in there. I don't I don't know
if it was I think it was pro. It was
pro and it was and it was THEA I walk
in the funny story. So we get in there and
I went two of my boys. He happens to meet
me there and I get out my car and I
see him next to me. I'm like, you're not allowed

to be here. They told me you're not allowed to
be here. He said, we're gonna figure it out. He
puts all his jewelry on my boy. And we're walking
up and I see an elderly person doing security and
I see a younger person. I said, you go to
the elderly I'm gonna go to the younger soon as
you know that side door by the vip entrance we
get through, do you program me, you have fifteen minutes

figure it out. Don't tell anybody anything. I said, you
don't tell anybody anything. He's right behind me. I need
to find a dressing room. And that's literally how it happened.
Oh my literally, in that moment, it is how it happened.
And I'm in a dress room.

Like his hair was rainbow at the time he.

Put his hoodie on. But till this day, that video
gives chills because it was a moment. It was insane.

I meet him? He's my idol? And then FIFP was like, yeah,
you can bring him through. He's a Jackson right, Like yeah,
He's like all right, bring him And I brought him.
He's a Jackson yeah, and shot the B boy and
he came and then they performed for the first time,
and then he missed his booking to come with us

at the after party at the club and there's a
video that I had heard before we've seen me tell
him like, you're gonna be next, I'm telling him in
the video, and then that was the last time I
spoke to him.

He was another one on his way.

Like I have people that I like that I want
to see when If that makes sense to you, it's
just music engagement I feel right now is it's kind
of hard to say right because I feel like I'm
still playing the same songs in the club from five
years ago. That's that record. There's still new records like
you still got the Baby, you still got Drake, still
got Rocky, you still got skill of Baby pre people

like that, but it's like, I don't know, I really
can't tell you. Like there's a kid out of New York.
I like King Bemo. I like his music a lot.
It kind of sounds like a little bit like pop,
but there's nobody I really feel like I can be like, hey, Angie.

Like when we had luston Brooklyn, I could have told
you Fetti was going to be that guy. Boogie was
going to be that guy young and May was going

not even the same nomore, that talent isn't really coming
through the way they were before.

the club in New York?

Yeah, even the strip clubs, I feel like it's not
the same.

I'm barely there, yeah, not even the money is not
even like the only place I loved to. I've seen
an interview the other day, who is it you interviewed
on your show and they said it, oh, Savannah James,
the Trap. That's right, that's my favorite strip club is
the Trap.

But I mean it's right, it with Savannah James, the
whole people. That's not what I expected you to say.

very exciting. You're expecting a number one from this project?

I feel like in general, I'm not speaking on nobody
in general. I just feel like albums aren't what albums
used to be in a sense of what it generates
sales and how the streaming stuff is set up. I'm
just going to hit you with singles all day, but
I'm coming with singles from all angles, like Afrobeats record,
I'm making a house record, a den Bow record. I
already have it done, just all kinds of aspects and

something has to stick.

because it was a one and done type of thing.

So he was out here wrecking the place. Yeah, but
were you doing like twenty one and under parties or
seen parties? Seen parties?

Okay, so you're seventeen. Ye got money from sweeping and
doing whatever, and you throw a party.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, but I got into music because I didn't have
a choice. When I was sixteen, I got into a
car accident at sixteen, Yeah, and I was grounded. And
my oldest brother, Celeb, was a DJ at the time
and started with the promoter and he taught me how
to DJ, and then I was in the house. I
couldn't do nothing, so music just became my passion.

You were hurt in the car accident.

Yeah, I flipped on the train tracks. You were driving, Yes,
I was intoxicated. Oh no, I took my older brother's car. Yeah.

Wow, that's an early lesson. Yeah, do you still drive?

I drive in Jersey my cars, But when I'm not
in Jersey.

No, I don't drive. I stay in the back of
the I only know because I had a bad car accident.

Sometimes that driving thing, you get traumatized.

A little bit, like flash like yeah, like PTSD. Basically
I f like accents. Yeah.

It was a rough patch in my life because my
mom used to always take the bus and after that,
she still can't see that site till this day. She
won't because by the school where she used to go
to work, and she would take a longer route to
get home because she just couldn't see it. It was tough,
but I feel it worked out for me better where
I am now.

So you were sixteen, you got in the car accident.
You're home because you can't because you're injured, right.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yeah, But like it was just bad because the kids
I was with at the time. There there was two
kids in the car too as well. One of them
had got injured badly. But everybody's better today. But then
I got in trouble with the court system. Like I
was a house arrest. I was on anger management, but
I'm like accident. And then the judge told me, if
I see you again, I'm putting behind the bars. I'm like, yeah,

I don't really think I'm gonna be in down belong
in jail. And then I got a anger management and
like why did you have anger manager hitting me with everything?
It was just insane. I didn't understand it.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Were you showing signs of anger on the i'mt me.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Tell you what I have ange. I went to anger management.
The first day they said what are you here for?
And I said. The kid next to me is like, oh,
I break glass and put it under my Mouth's pillows
when she sleeps oh, said, yeah, I don't really belong here.
I flipped a car. I'm not going to do that again, bro,
And then within a week I was out of anger management.
Oh my god, it was crazy.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
You never seem like an angry guy to me. I'm
be chilling, pretty pretty chill.

Yeah, I'll be chilling.

So thank god that wasn't worse. Yes, So you home,
you learn how to DJ because just.

Like your oldest brother had equipment in the basement, and
I just fell in love with music. I used to
my cousin make fun. I used to always grow watching
Rap City and all that stuff in the basement.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
So sixth thing, you're doing that seventeen you start throwing parties.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yes, And then my brother met Jojo when he was
a promoter to book him, and that's how I got
cool with Diggy, and that's how I got in with
the Simmons family.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Mm hmm, the whole Simmons family, right, they all messed
with you.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Yeah. Yeah, I used to stay there at times. We
were on tour for like three four years, me and Diggy.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Wow, that's a great start. Yeah, that's how it starts.
And then what happens when that's over.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Well, I feel like when you see like my presence
on stage, like for instance, Powerhouse, even though they were French,
because I started backwards. I started in arenas and stadiums
before I started in clubs basically because I feel Yeah,
so I feel like the stage presence from Reverend mentoring
me and putting me on with the jam Master Jay stuff.
I felt like that's what got me the way I
am with the microphone. And then after you know, Diggy
(10:32):
decided he didn't want to rap anymore and pursue acting
and other stuff. I said, I got to figure it out.
And then you know, other artists reached out and I said,
I'm very grateful for what the Simmons family did for me,
but I don't think I can ever just stick to
an artist again. And that's one thing Jay Irvin taught me.
It was another one of my mentors. He was like,
(10:52):
cause you're just going to be that shadow. You can
be next to them, but just don't stay with them
your whole career because when they're done, what are you
going to do? So that was like an early life
on lesson for me in the DJing career.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, that's good advice yeah, so then you go and
you start your own thing.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Well, Star started putting me in certain clubs. He was
in shot the l books, he was there at the
early on stage. When I was in the clubs, I
was there eight o'clock. I had to be home at eleven.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
I was there early because you're younger.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Yeah, I was young. And then I started djaying certain
rooms from ten to four, getting paid one hundred and
fifty dollars if I got paid.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Wow, And what year was this? This is not that
long ago?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
This was well, no, this was if I'm thirty three.
This is like when I was nineteen twenty twenty one,
like around like I got back off to like twenty
twenty one, like around that age, and I was DJing
for peanuts on hundred dolls hundred fifty dollars. But I
just won't loved it so much. I just loved the
clubs and just being around music. And then I started
making music.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, and when did you Cause you're like a relationship guy,
like you have people just mess with you, right, like
you have, especially like young artists want to come up.
What is that?
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Like?

Is that do you put effort into that?

I think it's like certain people I watch growing up,
Like with the artist relationships is like the pro style
and envy, like seeing how they are, they had the cars,
they had, they would fly, they had the jewelry. That's
where like some of my stuff comes from. And it's
just I think they adapt to that because I'm like them.
But like we do similar things that you would never
think artists would do, as like my say a boogie.

Today's ago, we're playing pickaball till two in the morning.
It's just things like that, Like it's different. So I
think that's where it comes from, because not everybody's genuine
as you would know in this industry. So when people
see your genuine, I think kind of attracts to you
in a sense.

Is a Boggie good at pickaball?
Speaker 2 (12:37):
He is very good. It was my second time playing,
and he takes advantage.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
I golfed with a boogie. He was not good, no, no,
but he was good. He was great because he was
his first time ever and he really showed like genuine
interests in like learning it. I was so like, I
was like, I love this.

He told me a movie to watch on pickaball on
how to play. Oh, so he's pickaball game, like when
he serves, I'm kind.

Of sad that we lost him to pick a ball
that golf pickball, but that's okay, yeah.

Pick a ball. Yeah. They played three times, four times
a week. I'm learning now it's my second time. The

and it curved. I'm like, hold on, I need a second.
This is not what that is. But it's one though,
it's different. He's such a nice guy, right, he is
my brother.

He just couldn't get their own time. It was four

just born. Well, two years ago, Star's youngest daughter was born.
He's like the hospital to hear I'm not gonna make
it and I'm by myself. I'm not dressed. But it
goes like show us. Like you say, relationship is really

like how to He has this idea where he wants

And of course, yeah, but it's just like having that
around you, the support system. It comes from a good place.

get through, do you program me, you have fifteen minutes

to find a dressing room. And that's literally how it happened.

So so you know what something I do energy, I
keep a bag in the car of a change of clothes,
stop it for this, for this instance, for this type
of time before that. So when this happened again, I
was ready to change. Yeah, I'm not checking it. I'm
arting to slide but I'm gonna go slide off and
go change my clothes because Louis with Lowis. I'm not

doing that.

Louis and Lois is nuts. It's crazy. Okay, this is
going another DJ for one for you, another D So
you're in the middle of your set, it's your party.
Another DJ gets on the mic, while you're still in
the middle of your set.
Speaker 2 (32:01):

Don't do that.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
No, they said a rushing hour, and don't touch my radio,
don't touch my microphone. No, we're not doing that. Pozi done.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Are there any of the DJ etiquettes that people should know,
because there is an etiquette like you I know, like well,
like I know that, Like if you're opening up for
somebody who gave you the slot to open for them,
you don't play the biggest record out like right before
the DJE.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
I walk in like one of the biggest parties on
a Thursday Icon Thursday Friday Madaka in New York. I
walk in there and you're playing Sexy Red Get It
Sexy at twelve o'clock. The busboys still set up the napkins.
Why are you playing that at twelve o'clock? Like, it's
just something you should know, you know what I'm saying. Like,
and one thing with me. If I'm doing a mid
set in Long Island, I'm playing mid set music. I'm
(32:56):
not playing the hit records. But if you're closing whatch
is supposed to it's something you should just know. It's
like common sense.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
The hits come at the end of the night. Yes,
it's common sense, but not everybody got the common sense.
So DJ one on one is there's a respect right
for the open, for the the closer, but.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
I have a folder for that?
Speaker 1 (33:17):

Speaker 2 (33:17):
When there's I call it a brainwash? So like if
the DJ before mes playing all the hits, I play
like three four songs to just brainwash the crowd and
make them forget everything they just heard.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
How do you do that?
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Either R and B or I go like a whole
different way and just they forget it. And then I
have a thing I say, and I look. Sometimes it's
not in a bad way competition the club, but sometimes
the DJ before, if I don't know them, I'll play
the same record he just played like twenty minutes later,
and I look at him and say, it's not what
you play, it's how you play.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
It, Savage.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Sometimes they would do it to me when I was
coming up, so I got to return the favor, Savage.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
That's pretty good. Any of the etiquettes that are new DJ,
what if there's a new G just starting out.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
No, I'm not doing that, No, but what should they know?
If you're a new D starting out, you know you
gotta know your crowd to read the room. Some deaders
are just DJ with the HEAs down. I even looking
at the room and realizing that that's not what they
want to hear.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
That is my biggest pet peeve. I almost won't like
you as a human being. No, it's terrible. I know
I shouldn't be that way. But if I see a
DJ DJ and that he's like into it for himself
and the crowd is like not doing anything, I'm like, yo,
you're like not a good person. You're like, you have
a job is to do this for these people, and
you're not even paying attention to these people. It almost
makes me look at you, like are you even a
(34:32):
good person?
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Another thing is like yesterday, even getting there early, I
wanted to hear what the dds before we were playing.
So I don't play the same thing. Somebody did get
to the club and they're just running through playing the
same records.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
What makes an excellent DJ.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Mike presence getting the girls involved. That's there because the
guys won't do whatever the girls do, So just talk
to the women at all times. I like that.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
That's a good plan. Do you have any more?

Oh?

Are we good? I think I'm good? All right? That's
check It or let It Slide. That is DJ spinking

No, just give them the info, get look out for
the music, and just be prepared for everything that's coming,
all the genres. We're not just going one way. I
got a house record on the way, I got a
dem Bow record, afrobeats, reggae, whatever you need, I got it.
