(00:00):
Well, I mean, couldn't youjust kind of elaborate when you saw on
Zach versus what you've seen him thefilm All Leaser? Yeah, good question.
I like his experience. You couldtell he's played, and I feel
like he's got very live arm strengthand he's picking up the offense pretty quickly.
Well do it Broncos Country tonight. But with all Brian Dick Ferguson Grant

(00:21):
Smith was right man, Chris Thomason, they get the good question from Sean
Payton. You know, we keepthe scoreboard here in the studio because I
constantly am fishing for the good questionfrom the coach. But Chris, Chris
got it today down there at thepress conference. Chris Thomason from the Gazette
joining us now, one of myfavorites out there, Chris, how you
doing to see me? Hey doingwell? Yeah? It was great to
get a quote good question. SometimesPeyton says a fair question. He never

(00:46):
said a bad question. But ifhe gives you a three word answer,
he probably was a bad question. So thanks for having me on, guys.
Definitely, Yeah, and we're outof practice OTAs today. Obviously we're
not in full pads. It's early, but you know how everybody wants to
scorecard, the report card, howare the quarterbacks doing all that stuff?
In my observation today, it's dayone, so I don't want to get

(01:07):
overreactive to anything, but it feltlike that, you know, bon Nick's
was hit or missing through a fewthat were behind guys, but overall wasn't
bad. It was a, youknow, a day one type performance.
Zach Wilson has moments where you're like, this is a train wreck, in
moments where you're like, wow, look at that. And Jared Stidham,
who I have affectionately named Jared Stidwater, reminded me of the the you know,
kind of steady veteran who just kindof knows the offense, knows what

(01:29):
he's doing and doesn't rock the boat. Would you disagree with any of that
or agree with it or what didyou think? Yeah? I wouldn't necessarily
disagree with any of that. Ithink st him, they kind of know
what he can do. I mean, I don't think he's gonna dramatically all
of a sudden improve over the lasttime we saw him against the Chargers and
the Raiders. So he's kind ofthe steady guy that, you know,

(01:53):
what he can do, and butthey're certainly hoping that they can find somebody
who's better. And you know,Nick has looked decent with his accuracy,
and yeah, I agree with youon Zack Wilson, he'll throw a cup.
You know, he's kind of erratic. But he talked today about what
a lot of people have said thathe thinks under the tutelage of Sean Payton

(02:16):
that he can blossom with this freshstart. So we'll definitely see if that
happens. And you can tell SeanPayton is very intrigued about Zach Wilson because
he's the I mean, they studiedBo Nicks thoroughly. I think he's got
a good handle on him. ButZack Wilson is kind of a little bit

(02:38):
of a mystery to Sean Payton. He's probably saying to himself, the guy
can't go from number two in thedraft to be in as bad as he
was with the Jets. Just letme get my hands on him now,
Chris today also Stidham spoke, buthe said, look, I'm not willing
to allow someone to come in hereto be paaraphrasing for him and take his

(03:00):
position from me. So he's willingto compete. Do you see a situation
where it's going to be provided thatall three quarterbacks have an equal state in
competing for the starting spot. Well, that's been the case so far this
week. Steadham, being the incumbent, got the first team reps on Tuesday,

(03:22):
Zach Wilson got him on Wednesday, bon Nicks got him today. Sean
Payton said that will continue for awhile, but obviously that could change,
and of course only one you know, Well, I see what things look
like at the mandatory mini camp, which is open for three days. But
I guess technically the media is onlyallowed there one day a week during OTAs,

(03:43):
So if anything changes and Nick starts, for instance, running more often
with the first team, you know, we might not know immediately because we'll
just assume, oh, it mustbe Nicks's day this week. Today,
let's give a talk with Chris Thomasonfrom the Gazaza. The second most common
question I get asked after anything aboutthe quarterbacks is what's going on with Courtland
Sutton? And Sutton obviously sitting outand hoping for a re upp to deal.

(04:10):
Sutton was very productive last year withRussell Wilson especially in terms of touchdowns.
But at the end of the day, with only two million dollars left
on his deal, I don't feellike he has exactly a ton of leverage.
You look around at what the Broncosdid in the room this year that
getting Tim Patrick back, they addedJosh Reynolds, You've got little Jordan Humphrey,
Brandon Johnson, you drafted Vallet. It just doesn't feel like that Courtland

(04:30):
Sutton has a lot of leverage inthese in this potential negotiation, even if
I agree that he probably does needto be spiffed on his deal, Yeah,
I agree with you there. Ithink the way Courtland Sutton would get
leverage would be to show up hereand whole people in practice and then prove

(04:51):
that he's a thirteen million dollar receiver, which if he can't stayed on EXISIG
fifteen contracts and the Broncos didn't doanything with him, he'd make thirteen million
this year. But as it standsnow, the way he's say, you
know, not being here, ifother receivers kind of step up, and

(05:12):
there might come a time where theBroncos say, hey, he's not a
thirteen million dollar receiver. We're notgoing to give them money wants, and
who knows if not trade them, even release him. I mean, I
think it's a long shot they wouldrelease them. But the bottom line is
the two million that he's guaranteed. If you released him, that amount would
be offset because he's certainly going tosign with somebody else for more than two

(05:35):
millions, So they would get thattwo million back, so it will cost
them nothing essentially he release them.I don't think it'll come to that,
but hopefully Sutton will realize that heneeds to just get in here and prove
once again that he's the best receiveron the team this season, replacing Justin
Simmons. How is it that theBroncos do that? Known as though they

(05:57):
have a room full of young andmaybe the most experienced in the room is
five years, So how do theyget that accomplished? Well, you know,
Brandon Jones was talking to some folksafter he signed. I was talking
to Lewis Oliver, who's a formerPro Bowl safety with the Miami Dolphins and
follows him close out there, andI was like, well, Brandon Jones

(06:20):
is so good, hoping he wasn'ta regular starting safety, to which Oliver
said, you know, yeah, that's kind of a mystery. He should
have been. So I think Jonescould be a guy who was ascending.
So I think he's definitely one ofthe starters. And I think PJ.
Locke and Cayden Stern's battle for theother spot. I mean, Locke obviously

(06:43):
closed last year pretty well, butkeep mind Sterns was listed at even with
Kareem Jackson on the depth charts beforelast season, and then of course he
got hurt and was out for theseason in week one. Oh yeah,
with Chris Thomas and I thought, you know, Joshua and especially Lucas Kroll
had decent days today. You've gotto figure that Kroll has has got to

(07:05):
be a heavy factor in their plans. I know they've talked about Dulcie and
if he can be healthy, buthe's still not. He's still out there.
We saw what Troutman is and whathe isn't last year, and the
rest of the guys they had justreally don't inspire. Nate Atkins a serviceable
h back, but we don't knowanything about doing Leonard and Thomas Yasmin Kroll
looked like he could be something sixsix sixty runs, a four to six

(07:26):
forty, what do you think ofhis chances this year? You know,
Sean Payton loves him, and hewas extolling his virtues last season when he
had never caught a single pass everin an NFL game. I mean they
even threw to him, as youremember at the end of that Texans game
on the last play that was intercepted. But I'm now reading from the quote
sheets and Sean Payton is even morein love with Lucas Kroll. He said

(07:51):
today, if you didn't notice, everyone in the media was looking down at
the rosters to see who number eightyfive was. I said, somedays they're
going to know who eighty five is. He's looking sharp, so you know
that might you know, with GregDolchick's all of his injury problems and what
have you, a lot of peoplewere saying, well, why didn't they

(08:11):
draft the tight end? But youknow, certainly one reason why they didn't
is Peyton's love for Lucas Kroll. So when we look at the the Broncos
moving forward, they have a lotof depth at a lot of positions.
So this summer is going to bereal key for certain guys. One guy
who I feel is going to bekey for is Tim Patrick, who recently

(08:35):
changed his numbers from what did yousee today about Tim that gives you any
type of idea that hey, listen, Tim can come back stronger than ever
the season. Yeah, he lookedyou know, solid today. I mean
he looked like he was looking ayear ago when everybody thought he was going
to bounce back and have a niceseason after missing one year due to injury.

(08:56):
Now it's two. But his injurynow is pretty far behind him because
if he wasn't on injury reserve lastyear in forrest to miss the entire season,
they wouldn't have been out of thequestion that maybe he could have returned
at the end of the season becausehe was out on a side field late
last season, you know, doingsome work running around. So he seems
to be well passed his injury, his achilles tear there. So yeah,

(09:22):
I think he's another guy that's puttingthe pressure on Courtland Sutton. I mean,
if Josh Reynolds looks good, TimPatrick looks good, if these rookies
are okay, Troy Franklin, DevonVelly, you know who knows, maybe
they'll say, you know, dowe really need to spend thirteen million on
Courtland Sutton talking with Chris Thomason fromThe Gazette, Chris, you know,

(09:48):
one of the things that I don'tif it bothered me necessarily, but it's
one of the things that made meraise my eyebrow is the way that they
sort of didn't address the offensive linein this offseason. You know, we
saw Russellilson take a lot of satlast year, and I guess the question
is is do the Broncos feel likethat's on Russ because they really didn't do
much for this offensive line. Well, kush Mary left the free agency,
and it's sort of a Wattenberg orForsyth or must have for next man up.

(10:11):
The starters, the rest of thestarters are all the same last year,
from left to right, Bulls, powers, might, it's McGlinchey.
They did add Matt Pert as abackup. They did draft Nick car Julio,
which you know that glorious mullet mustachecombo's fantastic. But at the end
of the day, it doesn't feellike they did much to address the offensive
line. Is that because they feellike that the sacks were on Russ last
year? Yeah? I think theya do feel that way that a lot

(10:35):
of the sacks could have been avoided. And b as you know that they
went out and the first two bigname free agents they signed in March of
twenty twenty three, we're offensive linemanBen Powers and Mike mcglinchy. Those are
Sean Payton guys, and he's,you know, maybe he's gonna go down

(10:56):
with the ship with those guys ifthey don't work out. So I think
having those guys and also Quinn mineearns something to have a wall caliber season
even though he didn't make the ProBowl, and you know, Garrett Bowles,
I think it's the case of,you know, where they're going to
find somebody better unless they you know, doled out twenty million, which is

(11:18):
money they didn't have this year. And then I think at center they lost
Lloyd Gushenberry. But center is kindof a position where you can, you
know, just find guys, youknow, maybe guys who were laid around
draft choices, free agent pickups. And they think they at least got three
guys who will battle for the jobin Luke Wadenberg's, Zam Mustafer and Alex

(11:43):
Forsyth. Chris. I know it'skind of early in the process with the
Broncos having their first OTAs and theteam getting together, is there a certain
position, not quarterback, that youfeel that not just only there's going to
be a major competition, is somethingof a problematic position for the Denver Broncos.

(12:05):
Yeah. I think the running backbattle is going to be fascinating.
They got Audric that's to me,in the fifth round. A lot of
people thought he would go before that, and then they got you know,
a nice back out of Memphis inthe second round, and you know,
undrafted guy Watson out of Memphis. So I think those guys are going to

(12:28):
push definitely for roster spots, andthere's only so many spots. And if
you look at Julia McLoughlin, figure, you know, he's on a rookie
contract, he's cheap, and he'sprobably going to stick around. Then you
look at Javonte Williams and sma gpRyan who have no guaranteed money left them
at deals and one, if notboth, could be in jeopardy. Chris,

(12:52):
what's the sleeper story? What's thatBroncos player that nobody's paying attention to?
That by training camp, the fansare going to know the name well
Well, here's one guy, throudas Lavelle Bailey, who's undrafted linebacker at
a Fresno State, and I dida story in him a couple of weeks

(13:13):
ago. You might recall George Paytonat the owners meeting said well, we
got to get more athletic at linebacker. Well, they didn't draft a linebacker.
And then Bailey was telling me thatSean Payton called him not once,
but twice during the seventh round begginghim to sign with the Broncos as an

(13:35):
undrafted creation, which he did.So that's kind of out of the ordinary,
is the head coach calling twice andthen now Drew Sanders, a linebacker
has gone down, So you knowhe might be a guy. I'm not
predicting he's going to start or anything, but certainly guy who could make the
fifty three man lost. Chris Thomasonreporting that Levell Bailey's going to be an

(13:56):
all parl this year. We gotyou, We got you down for that
shot. Appreciate your time tonight,Chris. We got a junior. Yeah,
made all decade and as undrafted.Chris is gonna be writing this all
the fame speech. It's all right, it's already started right now, so
uh no, Chris, Hey,we really appreciate the time. Now we
gotta roll. We got up againstthe break. But you guys can follow
Chris on Twitter at Chris Thomason ofcourse at the at the Gazette, man,

(14:18):

which by the way, is goingto be on Memorial Day featuring one
guest of Dave Logan. Yeah, the one and only Dave Logan sat down
with him for almost two hours. He was gracious enough to spend that amount

(15:03):
of time with me, and it'sgonna be airing, like you said,
on Memorial Day at nine am andagain at eight pm after the Rockies game.
I'll be sure to tune in forthat because I've not heard the day
Logan episode yet, So good man, I'm slacking. Man. Are so
many stories that he doesn't share allthe time on the air that he shared
with me in that episode, andit was just like, you know,

(15:26):
I've worked with him ever since Istarted here basically, and to hear some
of those stories that he had nevershared with me on the podcast, that
was really cool. That's awesome.I'm looking forward to listening to that as
well. Let's get the NFL sixpack. It's time for the NFL six
pad. I'm gonna trade a lotof beard about insight and insight information you
can't find anywhere else. I knowsix the top six NFL headline what well.

(15:50):
It came out a little bit earlier. The recording has finally taken root.
Major college athletes finally getting paid wellmore. According to ESPN dot Com,
and five major conferences have agreed topay players directly as part of a
settlement of three anti trust lawsuits thathave been dealing with systemic body blows to
the college football status quo. Theargument but simply is that d NCAA was

(16:14):
and always has been a tool forcontrolling labor costs by creating artificial barriers to
paying players under the guise of preservingamateurism. The players got nothing while everyone
else connected to the sport got paid. Yes, they received an education that
many didn't want and that conflicted attimes with their primary purpose for being on
campus, but it was still farfrom fair value. According to Salm,
sense of process prevented the open marketfrom determining that value. Under the deal,

(16:38):
all D one athletes back to twentysixteen will be eligible to receive a
share of a settlement fund of morethan two point seven billion dollars. The
agreement also includes a revenue sharing plan, which will allow each school from the
five major conferences to give up totwenty million dollars per year to players.
Like all class action settlements, thiswon't be required to go three formal approval

(17:00):
process. It is expected to takemonths, with revenue sharing starting in twenty
twenty five. Whatever the final billmay be, it won't fully rectify decades
of exploitation that not only provide schoolsfrom paying players, but also until recently,
capitalizing on their name, image andlikeness. But it's better than nothing.
Nick, Is there any way youcould scratch out the date on your
diploma and get that updated to twentysixteen to get your little cut of this

(17:22):
cash? You know what, Iwould love for this to be retroactive in
guys back in my college days totake part in this, but it's not
part of me is I'm happy thatathletes are now getting there just due even
though you know, we've seen severalathletes finding themselves in the financial of purgatory

(17:45):
because they haven't had that money forthis family. But now a lot of
that has changed, but there's stillsome things that need to be figured out.
This is why I believe that thereneeds to be a union in place
to help kind of negotiate this inbehalf of the players, but they're still
ongoing litigation and former Colorado football playerAlex Fattana was still in the n C
double A or restricting how it sharesTV rights and revenue with players. That's

(18:10):
another issue that's coming up. Sinceanother one that's coming up, there's gonna
be additional law suits down the line. It was one that was today was
there was a motion to move outsideof Colorado jurisdiction to California. That motion
was denied. So there's still stuffgoing on with all this, but this
is interesting. I just the thingthat bothered me was that this was only
retroactive til like twenty sixteen. I'mlike, well, if we got two
point seven billion dollars pot, whyare we not making this retroactive to you
know, if you played you playedin the NCAA and you could show it,

(18:33):
yes, you get a paycheck. Why does are we arbitrarily cutting this
off at twenty sixteen? So forme, I'm a little I'm a little
irked at that. I'm little upsetthe guys like you didn't get to cut
mostly because I'd like you to treatfirst, taking dinner for once. I'm
just saying two signed a rookie contractgives the NFLPA the ability to sell Marvin
Harrison junior jersey. Easter story we'vebeen on for a while, Marvin Harrison

(18:56):
Junior is officially a member of theArizona Cardinals, and his jersey can now
officially be sold. In report ofNFL media, Harrison's contract as signed gives
the NFL Players Association the group licensingrights needed to sell Harrison's jersey. Standard
player contract includes all the licensing languagelists was specifically removed by Harrison's and rep
reports reporting indicase it was not Harrisonhas indeed authorized the sale of his jerseys.

(19:18):
As of this moment, harrison jerseyscannot be found on the Cardinals website
or Fanatics online sort right now.Harrison had declined previously to sign the NFLPA
licensing group agreement because of his disputewith Fanatics. On Saturday, Fanatics sued
Harrison for breach of contract. Thelawsuit made vague reference to Harrison's refusal to
sign the NFLPA license agreement. Nowthat Fanatics has come to a head,

(19:41):
there's no real reason for him torefuse to let his jerseys be sold.
Is this a big non issue hereor am I missing something? No,
this is somewhat of an issue becausethis has a trick of down effect.
This thing about some of twenty twentyfive's top players and how they maybe feel
about their jersey being so their portionof the revenue being provided to them.

(20:08):
So this has a lot of implicationsmoving forward because now you're seeing the door
that's been open with nil's in collegefootball or college athletics now spilling over into
the world of the NFL. Andif more players say, look, based
on what Marvin Harrison Junior was ableto do, maybe we could try to

(20:30):
replicate that same thing. But here'sthe thing. You can only do that
if you are a top pick. There'll be a second round player talking about,
Hey, I'm not signing because myjersey. No, don't do that,
that's bad business. I'm just gladthat fans can finally get their hands
on memorabile as they want to merchandiseto which I I don't buy football player
jerseys, don't wear footall player jerseys, but you know a lot of fans

(20:52):
want that stuff. They do,and so like the fans want their their
top draft picks jersey, they werenot able to get it because of a
dispute over some AUTOGRAMND have ball cards. And you know, I'm just glad
they're happy they they're able to dothat now. Three. Trey Lance says
his confidence is higher now than whenhe entered the NFL. No one could
say with any amount of confidence whatTrey lances or isn't but he was drafted

(21:14):
third overall for a reason. Ninersweren't the only team that saw Lance as
a franchise quarterback. So it's playedeight games, including four starts in San
Francisco trade up to draft him backin twenty twenty one Dak Prescott, of
course, through five hundred and ninetypasses last season. Lance has thrown four
hundred and twenty since high school.None last season in his first in Dallas,
but Lance said, quote, myconfidence is much higher than it was
when I got in the NFL,for sure. Vietnack Harris of the team's

(21:37):
website, I didn't I kind ofdidn't know what to expect. I think
that's probably most rookies, if dotall of them, at one point or
another, coming in that first year. I feel great about where I'm at.
Continue to get better, continue tolearn, continue to be a better
quarterback. Lance will go to theseason competing with Cooper Rush for the backup
job behind Prescott. He's schedule forfree agency after the season is this fifth
year option was not picked up byDallas. Ladd said, my mindset hasn't

(21:59):
changed. I have an attacked thisoffseason differently. I control what I can
control, continue to learn the offenseand building trust for these guys and his
coaching staff. I'm excited. Ihaven't played a snap obviously since last pre
season. I'm just excited looking forwardto it and making sure I'm ready when
that time does come. The Cowboystraded for Lance at the end of the
preseason. Last year. He servedas a third string quarterback all season.
Majority of his practice time came duringa pregame workout session with the quarterbacks coach

(22:22):
Scott Tolzen last fields. He's betterprepared now. Will Trey Lance get a
shot at all the season? Absolutely? Because backup quarterbacks are important there we
found that in this league, andsometimes you don't find out until your start
it gets injured, and I guessto Lance's credit, he hasn't really been
healthy enough to force to really seewhat he can do. And being in

(22:45):
the San Francisco forty nine ers offensealmost a year after they went to the
Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo, that'sa lot of pressure on the first round
quarterback. And then he did playa lot and North Dakota State, all
those things working with you, butbeing in the system and being around the
group that you feel they wanted toinvest in you. It changed the line

(23:07):
as far as confidence is considered fora quarterback. Yeah, Trey Lands,
I mean all the talent the world, you know, as far as get
four hundred passes since high school isabsurdly low for what it is. That
where it is where, Yes,not a large enough enough sample size for
anyone to really evaluate and just befair to him too as well. Right
four, The Raiders gave Max Crosbya raised for twenty twenty four and added

(23:33):
new years for his deal. Passrush for Max. Crosby's a great player,
obviously a key leader for the Raiders. They know that and they're taking
care of him. The Adam chapterof ESPN. The Raiders have given Crosby
a revised contract that increases his compensationfor this year by six million dollars and
another one point two million in twentytwenty five. No new years were added
to the contract. He still signedthrough twenty twenty six. Contract previously contained

(23:56):
nineteen point three eighty two million payfor twenty twenty four, twenty one point
five, nine two and twenty twentysix. As your current deal has a
new money average of twenty three anda half million that's well below the top
of the market paid to Nick Bosathirty four million per year in new money.
So the six million dollar raised isthe least the Raiders can do after
this season. The right move mightbe to could and foil those final two
years to pay them something closer toBosa. But this is as much as

(24:18):
we don't like to give the Raidersprops on something, this is the Raiders
coming through and pay a guy whenthey didn't have. They didn't add,
they didn't ask for anything back,They just spiffed him. Well, this
is I would tell us Steve atWar of this today. Well, and
we hear something about the salary cap, we always look at it as though
as the boogeyman. But what wehave been shown from year to year,
and this deal just proves this teamscould find ways to give players money and

(24:41):
find workar rounds and kick the candown the street and then find ways to
figure out, hey, is thisguy going to continue to give this certain
level of production. But to therates credit they realize Max Crosby is an
intricate part of what they want todo. So you have Max Crosby,
you mixed that with Kristen Wilkinson, who they picked up from my Miami.
That's going to make them a formidablefall as far as getting after quarterbacks,

(25:03):
and pass rush is just as importantas quarterbacks, right if you're going to
make those quarterbacks. Those guys undercenter are really popular. They say that
they are the face of the NFLand you and you need someone to make
life miserable, and Max Crosby's definitelythat dude, definitely does that. Max
getting it. I just thought itwas fascinating what a culture shift I think

(25:25):
has happened there in the Raiders. If you're just randomly spiffing a guy,
I mean, he's clearly your bestplayer, but you're randomly spiffing a guy
throwing an extra six million dollars onhis contract and asking for nothing in return.
To me, that goes over realwell in a locker room. That
says, hey, we take careof our own, and that goes over
real well at a locker well. Not just in the locker room, but
guys who are pending free agents fortwenty twenty five, they're looking at organizations

(25:47):
who are making moves like they say, you know what, if they are
taking care of those guys, Iwant to be a part of what they're
doing. And guess what. Everyoneloves free money. Well, I don't
want to say free money, butI just say new money. Everyone loves
new money. Everyone loves new money, free money and a new money all
of one. Yes, five,John Paty said Courtland Sutton situation will sort
itself out. Broncos course had widereceiver Tim Patrick back on the practice field

(26:08):
as he works his way back fromthe torn achilles that sidelined him on last
season, but again we remain withoutanother key member of the receiving course.
Sutton's absence from voluntary workouts is notobviously related to injury. However, Someton's
been away from the teams the entireoffseason as he looks for a new contract.
There's been no sign that he's planninga reverse course before the end of
OTS. Today, head coach SeanPayton said that Sutton's absence has not been

(26:30):
a subject of worry for him orthe team, saying, quote, there
isn't any concern. Here's why that'llsort itself out. Mike Cliss reports say
the Broncos rebuff trade inquiries regarding Sutton, so it seems that the status quo
will play itself out as the teamheads into medatory mini camp. Skipping that
would be a different choice than passingon voluntary at work, but doesn't appear
to be anything that Sean Payton appearsto be sweating. Do we think that

(26:51):
Courtland Sutton will reverse course anytime soon? Probably not, because in situations like
this, a guy saw, it'shis family. He's talking to his camp,
and they've come up with somewhat ofa batter pan and they have contingency.
Here's a B and C. Ifthese things happen. If they don't
happen, excuse me, then we'regoing to go to a backup plans.

(27:14):
And I think for me, Iwould like to see Cordon participate in a
OTAs once again to just show hislove of commitment and dominance whatever. But
I understand is overwhelming thought process asfar as who is going to be the
quarterbacks, project the quarterbacks, andhow that's going to bowl well for him
because twenty twenty five, that's hisfinal year of his contract and he wants

(27:36):
to make sure, Hey, ifI can get some new money. Now
I can say, well, Iknow, I mean, I go to
the super Bowl in the next twoyears. But guess what the money is
fine conversation for that. Theither partof this to me is that Courtland is
very aware of what he's getting hmselfinto this year. This is probably going
to be a building year for theBroncos. You're probably going to have a
rookie quarterback the bulk of, ifnot the entire season. Your numbers in
a contract year are probably not goingto be where you want them to be

(28:00):
as a wide receiver, which isa very dependent position. Right, So
I understand where Coreland's coming from. But at the same time, it's no
leverage. I mean, the Broncoshave a wide receiver room that's got too
many bodies in it. Yeah,I know it seems as though he doesn't
have that much leverage. But there'salways two sides of the coin, right.
He could say be happy with thefact that of hey, maybe the
Broncos give me more money. Ifthey don't, maybe I'd go to another

(28:22):
team that's a contender. I takeless money, But in his mind he
still wins. Wouldn't be surprised bythe way the Steelers they got Russell Wilson,
they got former Broncos wide receiver coachZa Kazani keep an eye on that
sick Zach Wilson didn't live up toexpectations in New York, but there's no
expectations here in Denver. Quarterbacks buyingfor the Broncos starting quarter back job Bob
with Jared Stidham and first round pickedBo Nicks also in the competition. Wilson

(28:45):
there's been something of an afterthought forsome people, for anyone outside the locker
room. Anyway, Number two overallpicking the twenty twenty one draft doesn't sound
like he's lost his confidence, sayingquote, I feel like you learn the
most when things don't go their best. That's to be a Parker Gabriel today.
So you can bank those reps youlearn from. I'm in three years
of things being challenging. You canlearn a lot of things. Hopefully I
carry those with me. Jets tradeWilson a seventh round pick to the Broncos

(29:07):
for a sixth round pick after hewent twelve and twenty one and thirty three
starts through twenty three touchdowns twenty fiveinterceptions. Wilson said, obviously there's bittersweet
moments than everything. I was gratefulfor my experiences there and the guys I
missed the guys out there everything too. But at the same time, a
fresh start is good. I'm excitedto attack a new challenge. Now,
you told me earlier that a failurecan be your best friend. Regarding Zach
Wilson, What did you mean bythat? Yeah, because when you fail,

(29:30):
you learn what your limitations are.Because when you're a highly taweded guy
coming out of high school and thesame coming out of college, sometimes you
don't really look at your flaws anddeficiencies the same way because everyone is kind
of puts you in that position thatmade you the guy. So when you
run into a situation where there's alot of pressure and you don't perform as

(29:52):
though everyone's expected, it humbles you. And to be humbled allows you as
an individual to now really look atit, if you will will to do
that and say, well, howcan I improve? Like coast Peyton said
what he said about the quarterbacks andwas it what do you call them?
What kind of dogs? Orphan darphinor orphaned dogs? Right? So,
now you in that situation where youare Zach Wilson, your orphaned dog.

(30:14):
You're just trying to gain favor withyour new teammates. The city and your
coach. So so now you'll you'rea little more humbled than you were before.
And I tend to agree with that. I mean, you know,
I do the faux arrogant thing herefor for stick on the show and all
that kind of stuff in real lifethough, But the best lessons I've had
or been when I've been humbled. You know you And that's the thing,
Like when you get really humbled andyou know what that's like, and everybody

(30:36):
knows what that's like. You've hadthat in your life at some point where
you've been a really humble bust. Those the best lessons. I mean,
it sucks in the moment because youfeel like a you know, the north
end of a southbound horse, Butat the end of the day, like
if you are willing to stop fora minute and examine why you got humbled
and work directify and fix those things, man, you could really make something
yourself and you could really improve. But that all depends on if you or
that type of an individual where youcan look in the mirror at yourself and

(31:00):
be accountable. That's the first partyou will need to take self accountability.
Are you a blamer? Are youa blamer? Or you accuntable someone else's
fault. It's always somebody else's fault, somebody else. Or are you accountable?
If you're accountable, you really can. You can learn from your mistakes
and build off. And this iswhat I'm hoping that happens for Zach Wilson.
He's already passed. The first stepis the acknowledgement that, hey,
some things went wrong in New York. And like I told you before,

(31:23):
I think one of those things hespoke about it today, the passing of
Greg Knapp that had a huge impacton what he didn't become and developed.
Early on, I talked about thata lot of the show. Absolutely brocos
Country Tonight rolls on after this. They're all orphaned dogs. That's definitely Pooh
