Speaker 2 (00:12):
There we go.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
We can get to take it for granted podcast Webly.
The new episode was Susie Warden.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Yes it is. It was so much fun chatting with Susie.
Speaker 4 (00:19):
You know, we get to work with her on a
pretty regular basis, but didn't know much about her life story,
so it was cool to get to know her on
a deeper level.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
There you go, So you guys can listen to that
as well.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Nick can see NBA All Star Weekend. Lots of NBA
action going on. Do you pay any attention to NBA
All Star Weekend anymore? It feels wildly different than it
did when we were coming up.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Yeah, it is definitely different and always the big thing
is the slam dunk contests. I used to look forward
to it, yeah, but I've kind of lost interest in it.
The thing that I'm now focused on, believe it or not,
is the skills challenge that seems to be more exciting,
the three point contests. Those things have been great, but
(01:06):
the game itself has somewhat lost its luster. And I
tell you, every time I've watched the NBA All Star
Game since Kobe's passing, it only makes me miss Kobe
Bryant even more because Kobe was one of those players.
And I mean, he's like twenty nine and he plays
(01:27):
very intense, and some of these other guys they're just
kind of showboting and the scores have escalated to like
it's like one seventy seven, one sixty three. When Kobe
was playing, he made you play defense because if you're
going to bring the ball up the court in a
certain way, he's going to challenge you. And usually in
the NBA, we don't really see guys guard from one
(01:51):
end of the floor to the other. Sometimes you see
it in college basketball. But that's the one thing that
I miss, and I know so many I guess throwback
old school however you want to call it, type of
players and fans they want to see the game get
back to that.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, I think so. I think I think there are
people that do.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I mean, I think there are people that miss sort
of the edge that late nineties NBA, you know had
I mean, obviously I had in the eighties that it
phased for a minute. Yet and in the nineties you
still had the Knicks that were still kind of that
edgy basketball team with players that if you were a
fan of a team playing against them, you called dirty.
If you were a fan of the Knicks, you know,
you called them, uh tough. But but you know, I mean,
(02:36):
there isn't really there aren't really teams like that much
in the NBA anymore. We go back and look the
bad Boy Pistons or you know whatever, David, there are
just are teams that play defense like that anymore. So
much of the game is perimeter oriented. I mean, we
were talking about this the other day. The Celtics average
over fifty three point attempts per game. To put that
in perspective, Larry Bird, when he led the NBA in
(02:56):
three pointers made the mid eighties, was making like, you know,
two hundred a year here. So the Celtics now average
in four games what it took Larry Bird entire season
to make.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
And that's where the game is definitely change.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
I guess for some they think Steph Curry, but they
blamed Steph Curry at the same time because he's made
the game very exciting right where everyone wants to watch it.
Even when we look at the WNBA Caitlin Clark right, like,
there were female basketball players who was shooting three pointers,
(03:33):
but they were not shooting like how she was shooting
like a Steph Curry, right. So the three point shot
has made the game popular, but it has kind of
whitewashed the game too as well, because you go around
and the playgrounds in anywhere USA, kids are not trying
to work on the fundamentals to get to the cup
at the elbow or the mayor range.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Game.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Everyone is pulling up from from kind of like half court.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Everyone's pull up. Everyone was pulled up from.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
The Yeah, And that's kind of seemed to what the
game is a transitioned to.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
It really hasn't so much of the game as permanent
oriented in the math suggests that that's the smarter thing
to do, but you know, it does take away. I
think an element of toughness is similar to football, in
which you know, when you went from the I formation
to spreading everything out, it took the game from a
power game to more of a finesse game and rules
have changed to to be fair. Uh in the NFL,
where you know, you can't hit guys coming over the
(04:27):
middle like you used to.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Be able to back in the day.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
But the the the both of those sports seem to
have changed in ways that made them more of more
a finesse sport, I guess than you know. Then then
the gritty game that that I think that they used
to be. As we look at, uh the MVP award. Uh,
there's a straw poll right out there right now says
(04:49):
Shy is going to take this year?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Going to take it?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Is that voter fatigue or is it earned? Because I
don't get me wrong, I thank guy's having a hell
of a season.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
But we see you say hell of a season. Then
you went But I mean, but one of the stuff
before that matters.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
I mean, I think I don't think this is a
landslide thing, but it should be close except could it
be voter fatigue?
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Could it be one of those things you shouldn't have.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
No, I don't think this is a voter fatigue.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Last year it was close between Nikola Jokis and Shi
last year, and you just look at where the Nuggets
were from a record standpoint. And obviously, you know, Nikola
Joki has consistently had great seasons, but Shy continues to
pour it on.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
And let's not be mistaken, this.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
Was a team like last year that the Nuggets struggled
against OKCS as a young team, and now they're back
again with arguably the best record in the NBA. So
that says a lot. And who's leading that charge. It's Shy,
So hopefully they get it. I mean, they get it
right this year. Shi has done a hell of a
(06:01):
job this year and he deserved that coveted award.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
And you you think, I mean you would put him
over Nicola.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yes, and Jannis I mean would be third for me,
I mean we're an agreement there.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
I would just well, yeah, I mean for me, it's like, oh, well,
the Homer thing to say when Nicole Yoki is And
if I don't say that, then people will be upset
with me.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
If that's the case, kick the cad down the street.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
But I have no qualms about that.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
I just think, I mean, nicolea leads in to me
more categories, specifically in advanced statistics and per he's you know,
twenty half points higher.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
But where is their team as far as being ranked like.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
OKC thunder Well, but is that a function of that
one player? Is that a function of the of the
team as a whole.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
I mean, very good basketball, but that team lives and
dies based on what Shi does.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
It's almost like looking at Memphis.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
And it's when jam Rett is on the court, they
have an opportunity to win. So when you look at
jokis because I know the argument where we go from
being the most valuable players saying okay, well, who's the
most valuable to that team? And it's, without questioning it
is Nicola Jokic, right, But once again looking at OKC,
(07:16):
that same player for them is shy Well.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
I agree, but I mean it's not like they're devoid
of County Jayalen Williams average is twenty one points a game,
holmerid and Hartensteiner phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Who's the engine that drives.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
The team, Well, it's Jokic or Sga and that's particular case.
But I'm just saying it's not like this team is
devoid of talent. I think a lot of people don't
don't watch as much OKC basketball. They've got players. I mean,
you know, it's sound like he's just putting a team
on his back. And Cary, See, that's the.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Thing that bothers me about the whole MVP type of conversation. Well,
the most valuable player on that particular team, if he
wasn't on that team, well with the team b oh, okay,
Well we also downgrade and validate that player if he
happens to be the.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Best player on the team.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
And oh, by the way, he's got other players around.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Oh well, he's not doing it all by himself. It's
like no man.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
See See that's the Ryan Edward's way of breaking things down.
I'm not gonna choose right a left. I'm gonna stay
right in the middle of defense. No choose take a stance.
And my chance is that Shay has done a heck
of a job, and I believe that this year is
this year.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
I believe he's done a great job.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
And I still think Kich is the is the league,
and Shy is certainly the MVP of his own team.
I would put him as the second as the runner
up for the m v P this year, I couldn't
make a case that Giannis deserves it more. And then
the guys after that, I mean, who you pick it
at that point, you know, I mean he would Anthony Davis,
car Anthony Towns, I knew ga Like who you picking
at that point?
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (08:38):
None of those guys are on that level. Maybe maybe
Wemby in a year or two. But I mean as
you look at this in terms of wind shares, wind
shares for forty eight, uh you know vorpes per any
of those advanced statistics, the only one that shi Is
leads a league in is defensive wind shares. Jokis just
in offense and total wind shares. I mean, at the
(08:59):
end of the day, that attempts to account for your
supporting cast and say that that Jokic might be the
better player.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
What about the fact that Nikola Jokic is averaging a
triple double? Like, if he does that for the season,
he's not your MVP man.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
You should do if you like six eight, six ' nine,
you've had a I mean far as rebounds or concerned.
And I don't want to take anything away from Nicola
because he is a big man that can pass. But
once again, when we think about from me, from my standpoint,
it's just me look at that last year, looking at
this year, Okac was right there right they had a
(09:34):
great record last year, they come back right. Yeah, they
have talent around him, but the guy who is the
oil to the engine it is Shy.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
When they need a.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Bucket, they go to Shy. And we can say the
same thing for the Nuggets. When they need a bucket,
they're gonna go to Nicola Jokic. But once again, here's
a young guy who has done it consistently. We can't
and the greatness of Nikola Jokic, as great as he is,
we can't over will look all the players on other teams,
and just because Nicole is just this great player.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Can't do it well, I don't want to overlook him.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
I still, like I said, I think it's a real
conversation here.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
It's a debate. I firmly believe there's debate here.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I just come down on the side of you because
it has nothing to do with being in Denver any.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Of that kind of stuff. I come down on that side.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
He's just to me, he does more with all of
a sudden done.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
The reality is, I mean, Shy averages a few more
points game, but that's because he gets more attempts.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
I mean, Joki is more efficient with the basketball too.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
It too three whatever, see Ben see Okay.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
So, Nikola Jokich is a guy who shares the ball.
He loves to get his teammateson ball. So for me,
it's like on on one case, it's like, oh, that's
a pro for him, and then said, well, no, he's
sharing the ball, but Shan is getting more touches, so
he's going to have more opportunities. It's like, I don't know, man,
(10:51):
it's just it's it's crazy when we look at these
guys in different sports, and I hate to be in
a position where in order to try to prop one
guy up you have to take.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Away from Ebody both great players. Both they're both great players.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
But but for me, I think it's time and Shy
has definitely earned that. Something else I wanted to talk
about sinsins his All Star weekend. You got the twenty
twenty five U NBA Natesmith Basketball Hall of Fame list
that came out and there's a former Denver Nugget on
that list in this Carmelo Anthony. When you look at
(11:25):
Carmelo Anthony's career, do you think from you know, being
with the Knicks, Houston Lakers and spend a majority of
his career with the Denver Nuggets that he has somewhat
earned this opportunity.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I don't know if he's a Hall of Fame guy,
why not?
Speaker 2 (11:42):
I don't mean qualifications, Well, that's the question, like what
is the qualifications.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
I mean, he played forever, you know, he played at
eighteen nineteen seasons something like that.
Speaker 6 (11:50):
He played a long, long time, ten time All Star? Yeah,
ten time All Star? Did he He did not win
an MVP, but he came close. You get a top
five I think three or four votes.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
One thing I will say that's awesome is that late
in his career he finally did he did get in.
Uh he was like seventh or sixth Man of the
Year or whatever it was. It was back when he
was with I think it was Portland or whatever. And
I'd say that's that's a bonus. You add that to that.
But at the end of the day, I mean, you know,
was he was he ever on a team that won
a championship?
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Okay? Was he ever the MVP? Do you have to written?
Speaker 5 (12:26):
Do you need a championship in a ring in Orleans
a qualified?
Speaker 2 (12:28):
I don't know. With the Hall of Fame, I don't know,
Like I'm strung.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
I'm trying to run down because I don't know what
my Basketball Hall of Fame checklist would be.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Okay, how about this? Would this changed your mind if
I told you? If you look at NBA history the
points leaders right right now, Lebron James leads the NBA
with more than forty one thousand points score, Carmelo is.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Tenth behind Shaquille O'Neill. So once again, now let me
let me tell you a couple of guys.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
He is above Oscar Robinson, Elivewan. You know you have
James Harden. Who I mean, James Harden just a shooter,
He's just gonna shoot, Dominique Wilkins, Tim Duncan, right, Kevin Garnett.
I mean, even Alex English is twenty three on this list,
another Denver nugget. So when I look at it and said, well, no,
(13:18):
Carmelo doesn't have any rings or he wasn't part of
any great teams and needn't bring a title to Denver.
Dudes on the list all time leading scorer behind Seck.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
He's mellow is tenth. That's got to count for something.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Well, part of that's compiler though, I mean when you
play in nineteen seasons, you're you're gonna be there. It
does count to a degree, but I'm gonna dis count
a little bit on the other side. Twenty year career,
you know, I mean you played for twenty years, like
of course, you get sick your on the best the
rusher has played forever.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
He's number one, Yeah, but Lebron was also the best
for it forever.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
I thank Camello was never the best player in the league.
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Would you consider guys like Michael Redd or Sam Cassell
hall of famers?
Speaker 3 (13:58):
How are you putting them in the same category as
exactly same PR for their career? How many points they
have in their career? They have the exact shame pr
for their career.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
No, no, how many overall points do they have? History?
But is that what it is that we're just wrong? Boy?
We're talking about if.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
You're a top ten scorer all times, you're a Hall
of Famer.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
I mean, Michael Redd only had a like a like
a nine ten year career injuries, short Ohio State legend
Cassell played for a while.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Cassell played on some of those Houston teams.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
Yeah, lots of titles, but we are talking about a
guy who was tenth all time no.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Matter how long he's played.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Because now you still got to throw longevity in that
too as well, because if you're talking about consistent play,
how long has that player been able to knock down shots?
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Right now? They may go from duggan to mid range
to three point shooter.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
And what about Carmello Anthony's time with Team USA.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
You know what, if you tell the honest two thousand
the team is on up for the Natesmith Hall of
Fame to as well the entire team, and he was
on that team.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
You know who else was on that team, and.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
They don't win that, They don't win the Covenant UH
Trophy without him.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Kobe Bean Bryant, he's on that team.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
And Carmelo led that team in scoring for a lot
of games.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
So once again I asked both you and Ben and
the listeners, what is the criteria?
Speaker 4 (15:27):
I think whatever the criteria is, I think Carmelo Anthony
has exceeded it and he's a Hall of Famer in
my opinion.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
Thank you. You and I are and step with one another.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Duran, I don't know d Making sure, because I mean,
he's a durrant well ahead of Carmelo in terms of story.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
So but see, Durrett, we don't even have to ask
the question.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Okay, I'm just making because Durant James Harden James Harden,
because I did my opinion. James Harden has a stronger
case than Carmelo Anthony.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
Why because he was on the team with uh wes
KD when when they played against other More statistically.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
If you want to do the numbers, they're they're roughly
you know, I mean, in terms of points are roughly
the same.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Hard to smokes them in the other categories.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
If you wanted to put James Harden on there, so
be it. Because hard even though he plays a lot
of isolation basketball and the ball kind of dies once
it go in his hand, he drives out the clot
to do it with kluts, but that that kind of.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
If you're put that travel, I'll concede.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
I'll concede Carmelo Anthony, but you gotta you gotta put
James Harden in there too.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Okay, put him in there, all right. Broncos Country night.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Back after this, well for their d let's get to it.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
The NFL six pack. It's time for the NFL six pad.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I'm gonna take a lot of beer, insight and insight
information you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
No.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Six the top six NFL headline What well The Eagles
celebrated their Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Win in Philadelphia. Today's Saquon Barkley want to make.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Sure every member of the team was included.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Barkley, who was walking along the parade route high fighting
fans when he spotted in the crowd a ball boy
that worked for the team this year.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Barkley turnback, gave.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
The ball boy a hug, then lifted him over the
barrier so he could join the team along the parade route.
The moment was captured on video quickly became a hit
on social media, with fans praising Barkley for recognizing that
everyone who played a part of the Eagles great season
deserved to be in the celebration as well. Or Barkley
left the Giants assigned with the Eagles, Giants owner John
Mara famously called him our most popular player by far.
(17:28):
It's easy to see why he's a popular man wherever
he goes. I don't I don't know if you guys
saw the video or not. Sekwa Barkley casually picks up
a grown man and lifts him over a barricade in
the way that I might struggle with a child.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Made it look easy.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Oh my God, picks him up.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
You know, look, I might he was a toddler when
it was struggle with this. You know what.
Speaker 5 (17:52):
That is funny to watch another girl man pig with
another girl man like he's like a cabbage face doll.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
It just kind of like move from around from spot
to spot. But that tells you how strong.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
Saquon Barkley really is and why it was so difficult
for multiple defenders to actually bring him down.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yeah, I was.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
I don't know if you guys say it's just funny,
if you get a chance to see that clip, it's
it's funny performing too, I mean, say one Barker doing
something cool recognizing the ball boy. They're not the only
news coming out of the Super Bowl Parade and Friday's
Parade celebrating the Eagle's latest Super Bowl championship.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
General manager Howie.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Roseman took a beer can to the head.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
The Crescent shape wound.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Fits with the fact that the Eagles won the Super
Bowl in the Crescent City eating things out if they
lost to the Raiders in the Superdome.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Uh taking the podium the cap to their slow roll of.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Buses through Philadelphia, Roseman declared, and I bled for this city,
and the city should believe for Rosemy certainly built the
twenty seventeen roster that won last Super Bowl and rebuilt
all of it around common starter and right tackle Lane
Johnson to another championships.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Seven years later, the.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Eagles could be on the front end of a dynasty
of their own. Roseman has compiled the most talented overall
team in football. But at next year's parade, if there
is one, he might want to wear a helmet.
Speaker 5 (19:03):
That is hilarious, not the fact that he got in
the head but just the story within itself. If you
go online and you look at the image you can
see of the cane, but when you talk about having
skin in the game, well, he took it one for
the team.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Man. He took a can to the dome like it's
a deep cut where.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
You could see the impression of the can.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Yeah, And I was I was surprised. I was like, Yo,
he manned up. He didn't pass out, he didn't have
a headache.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
But he may have a headache, yes, but he put
he pushed through that and he's still tall. So I
don't know how many people could take a can to
the face and keep pushing.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah, that was pats off to Ali Roseman on that one.
Here are the comments that you referenced.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
I believe for this city, Eagles, our players, our staff
have done an unbelievable job. We are two time world
champs and we're coming back strong.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Dogbert's case, you remember where he's at. It's way better
than Leam Cohen's.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Duvo May Broncos are hiring former Saints interim head coach
Dearren Rizzy is their special team's coach.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Rizzy was a finalist for the Saints head.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Coaching job that went to Kellen Moore.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
This week bring up the Broncos to hire Rizzy a
sixteen years experience in the NFL, the past six in
New Orleans. Broncos coach Sean Payton hired Rizzy with the
Saints when he was Saints. Rizzy took over as a
Saints center head coach after the team fired Dennis Allen.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Rizzy was three and five and his head coaching.
Speaker 7 (20:36):
Dig Razzi's longtime assistant Phil Galliano, is a candidate to
take over the Saints job. He could follow Rizzy to
the Broncos if he does not hit that job. Do
we really think about yet another Saints coach being added
to the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
Well, I don't have an issue, whether because the Saints
had been really productive, you know, especially on the Sean
Payton in those New Orleans days, but also I mean
Rizzy comes in as being another top special teams guy
and idea is to keep the train moving forward, not
kind of come to.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
A screech of pault.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
So I like, we'll see how the players react to
it and see who the production is at the end
of the twenty twenty five seasons.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
I love it, man.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
I think he's a great head coach or a great
interim head coach, and I think he's going to be
a great voice in that locker room. And especially because
he's already got the connection with John Payton and he's
going to be bringing the boom all season long.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
New working relationship shouldn't be a problem since he's already.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Worked him four forward. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton recently said
when he arrived in twenty eleven to a locker room
of losers, former teammates Steve Smith and other Panthers from
the twenty ten team took exception.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Newton.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
You addressed the situation on his latest episode of.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
His fourth and one podcast, quote, when it we can
become so sensitive? When did we become so sensitive to
really speaking what the reality is? Our locker room full
of losers? Aggressive? But it's true, Newton said he wasn't
referring to any particular players, but to the entire situation
with a draft team that went two and fourteen the year.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Before the Panthers made him the first overall pick in
the draft.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
That quote, I'm not specifically talking about those guys. I'm
talking about the culture that was there prior to me
coming into the locker room, and it was a loser's mentality.
The Panthers improved to six and ten and Newton's first year.
By the fifth season, he was the NFL MVP and
the Panthers went to the Super Bowl. We all remember
what happened there, Newton? He said, quote does it me
saying Oh, when I came, I made everything better?
Speaker 3 (22:25):
No, I never said that.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
What I said was, if you're getting drafted number one,
you're going to a bad football team. That's facts, and
that's the point I was trying to make to tell
Travis Hunter, you see what I'm saying for me, everybody's
taken about.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Oh Cam said this, bro, it's the truth.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
It's the truth is broader point at the first overall ends,
you know, ends up with the worst team for the
year prior.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
It is certainly true.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
But instead of acknowledging that he might have stepped on
some toes there, he certainly doubled.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Down on it.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
We'll see, if anything, what Steve Smith has to say
about that. You think Cam Newton was overboard and calling
it a locker rocker room full of losers when he
got there, You know, no, I don't.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
This is kind of how he said it, because you
can walk into a team and that team can have
a losing mentality, and it takes players of coaches to
come and change that culture because it is true. I mean,
some guys come from great college programs, but they into
teams who they draft him, and those teams are not
performing well, so you adopt that losing mentality. So sometimes
(23:23):
you got to go in and shake some things up.
So there was a little truth to it, and that's
why it was harsh for some people to take because
there are some losers in.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
The locker room.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
So I just think that you can't say you're not
talking about particular players when you're saying locker room full
of losers.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
That the losers are the players.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
So I think you're trying to equivocate a little bit
there or tap dance around it.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Who's to say that he wasn't telling the truth.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
But I say the flip side of that is he's right.
They were two and fourteen. They wouldn't have been able
to draft him if they hadn't been exactly.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
And if you get upset about it, guess what that
means he's talking about you.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Steve Smith is upset about it, so what and we
know he'll have something to say a lot alry. Come on, man,
Cam Newton's been great at saying the quiet part out
loud lately, he said, remember his take about the Super
Bowl and MVP where he.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Trade that his podcast is really entertaining.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
So as far as podcast goes export, I don't listen
too many.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
That's one I listened to And why you listen to
it because he speaks truth.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Steve Smith may be upset, but guess.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
He speaks uncomfortable truths and it's hard to find people
that day.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Little do so be it five Dolphins began making changes
to their roster this afternoon, where it came down that
the team would be releasing Running Back Round, he monstered
early in the day. Team confirmed it by officially announcing
the movie also released corner Kendall Fuller and Titan Durham Smythe.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Fuller joined the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Last year after four seasons in Washington and appeared in
eleven games. He had fifty tackles, seven forced fumbles, and
a fumble recovery. Smif fit the last seven seasons in
Miami nine catches fifty three yards while playing every game
in the twenty twenty fourth season. The two moves clear
a little under five million in cap space. Marstert's departure
clear two point nine million ins base.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
Anything here for the Denver Broncos. I mean, I mean
Grant and I with Jess, I had one another. I
spent some time with Green Moster in San Francisco. If
you get him out on that edge, he is a
game breaker as far as speed is concerned. That was
a guy that went from playing the gunner position that
I played when I first entered the league to being
the starting impact for running back for the San Francisco
(25:23):
forty nine er.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
So there's still some juice. That's a squeeze being fuller.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
I don't I mean, I don't think we really need
urim spikes kind of. It also ran as far as
the tight end. But what Monster does has some speed.
It's you're looking for juice. That's that's service and juice.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
What was it not last year but the year before
he like led the league in rushing touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Right, you remember what you use him the right way.
He can be a weapon for Frock, Sean Payton and
the Bronco I remember what.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
Happened when they put up, you know, almost seventy points
in Miami.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
He was one of those dudes. I'm just saying it
was one of those dudes.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
And this seed is past season obviously didn't have the
same level as he only started one game two undred
seventy eight yards too downs, but the previous yearenty twelve
yards yead he did lead the league with eighteen rushing touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
He is thirty two years old. Sick o the good
players that might be getting released soon.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
It looks like Devontae Adams will be the next veteran
jettisoned by the Jets. A last ditch effort to parlay
the air, Rodgers traded a playoff Berth. The Jets sent
a third round pick to the Raiders for receiver DeVante Adams.
The Jets announcing that Rogers won't be back, probably just
a matter time for the issue the similar thank you
now leave statement regarding Devonte Adams. His original contract with
the Raiders contained a pair of bloated phony blooney years
(26:34):
on the back end aimed at driving the annual salary
average up to twenty eight million.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
For twenty twenty five, is compensation package spikes.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
To thirty six point one five million, and there is
no way the Jets are going to pay that to
DeVante Adams. It'll only stay if he dramatically reduced his
pay for the coming season, and he has no real
reason to.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
He left the Raiders to partner with Rogers.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Gonners, no point in taking us to stay with the
team that's stuck in perpetual rebuild. If Adams declines a dude,
his zeal will be cut. Become a free agent for
the first time in his career, able to pick any
other team for the coming season. Makes sense for him
to see what Rogers does. Assuming that Rogers next team,
if Threeason his one is willing to bring Adams to
town two, there's a chance that Adams could go his
(27:15):
own way if he has contenders, Chiefs, Bills, Raised, Texans.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Chargers all at the front of the line.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Regardless, it'll be a matter of time before he joins
Rogers on the unemployment line. The main thing about this
he is he fits in that Chargers offense. How scared
should we be of a duo Javontae Adams and lad McConkie.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
You will be a little nervous.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
I would be more concerned if he ended up in
the red Jersey.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
I don't think they got the money for that. Well, listen, man,
I hold on now.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
The whole idea before the Super Bowl was don't bet
against Mahomes. So I'm gonna say, don't bet against Brett
Beach because he's been pulled.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
He's been able to pull the rabbit out of his hat.
That would be uh, that would be a hare.
Speaker 5 (28:03):
Juju Smith, Schuster and new Hopkins, especially New Hopkins.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
This is the first time he actually got to a
Super Bowl. You don't think Devanta.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
Adams will say you know what, I may take less
money to play with the Chiefs because my money come
on the back here. Yeah, but those guys.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Both were uh would difficultly less expensive for guys when
you're chasing rings, you'll be willing to take a pay
cut to make sure.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
That you actually are in that conversation.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
We'll see if anything, he goes to the Chiefs, I
will bring you a gallon of Martin Ellie.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
How about two gallas ay Galland how much.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Does that do for him as one of the all
time greats? If he gets a second Super Bowl ring? Yeah,
I think that's him apart from a lot of players.
Speaker 7 (28:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
I mean he's got the he's got the numbers and
everything else to back it up.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
And it puts him in elite in rare air. It
puts him in elite company.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
And I wouldn't I would say this.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Patrick Mahomes may possibly put to Joe Burrow and say,
you know what, I.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Might be willing to take a little haircut if you
get me that guy.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Maybe I get a lot of questions about him coming here.
They Broncos can't afford them somehow. It's not you know,
you're considering letting Courtland Sutton go because you can't afford it.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
You certainly can't afford.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
De Vante Adams, Who's gonna cost you almost double Listen.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
I know I just missed Joe Burrow and he could say, Okay,
you know what, I'm gonna try to take a haircut,
try to keep t Higgins in the group together. But
if we can't, if we can't, I wouldn't be surprised
if he himself didn't reach out to Devanta Adams, because
Davanta Adams, regardless of what we've seen over the past
two years with the Raiders and you know, part time
(29:39):
with the Jets, he is still arguably one of the
best route running receivers in the.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
League, bar none.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
If you want to put a guy up against him,
I had that debate. I mean, yeah, we saw what
he did to a Tan to win a game.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
You know.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
I mean it was young Ctertan, but still.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
It was it was of the scheme. Hell of a route.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
It would have gotten me too, because he broke the
rules of what we were taught about wide receivers. Because
you see those hashes. The idea is that if that
receiver is running towards those hashes, and if he hasn't
crossed the hashes right now, he's coming back. But Davante
went two steps beyond the hash and PS two was
running to cut him off because he was beating him
(30:23):
on the overs in man coverage. So PS two had
the right frame of mind.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Yeah, I'm not gonna let this happen again. But they
confronted the.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Route because they had to say, look, we're gonna run
this route alls game long.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
He was chasing on the outside. The safety wasn't helping out.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
So if you take those steps again, he runs to
overplant come back out on the corner route. I'm telling you,
he would have got me. He definitely got me.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
He would have got Grassmith though I was a lockdown
JV corner.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Crossed putting the hands on him. Oh yeah, him, get
off the line. I would descript him.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
I'll yes, I'll take the flat at that point.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
I mean, you know, all right right there, Yeah, I'll
take the flag. Description too.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Up all side four times, play for one play, see
what happens. Legs sweat and keep doing what was it
was it washing was doing. But they kept jumping all
sides to eat the clock out. So they get one play.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yees, yeah, I would absolutely do that, cud of I mean, smart,
smart football man.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
My damns would work me. Here's the thing, I wouldn't
even be in a position to trip to Vante. That's
how bad he would have hurt me. I'd be like
sticking my leg out. You're forty yards down the field?
Speaker 2 (31:39):
What is he? What is that? Hey? What is that guy?
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Karate?
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Speaking of Washington, we've reached out to the Washington PR
team hoping to get coach Petgano back on the show
sometime here in the very near future.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
That'd be good.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
We need to get him on here here soon.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
We did get Ready Miller back on here, so we
got to Kya my cover. We'll get him on next week.
That'll be as always.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
He was affiliated with a team this year, so I
couldn't come on during the season like he usually does, right, but.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
We'll we'll make sure that we get a chance to
chat with him and talk about, you know, what the
front office is doing at this time of the year,
and how that how busy and how hectic that can be,
and and all that kind of stuff. We always love
our I love the fact that our connections around the
league are you know, employed and gayfully employed.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
And getting jobs and all that kind of stuff. We
call it the BCT bump.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
BCT boss, Right, come on this show, you're gonna get
employed in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
Well, that means that the lot of the information that
both you and I receive is of quality, of a
certain level of certified right, what.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
I'm saying for us?
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Yeah, in the interest of full disclosure, I think I
just brained an ac joyt patting myself on the back there.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
But we'll see how that works out.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
And I have to go on the i R.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
I'm listed as doubtful for any show on Saturday, which.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Doubtful for anything tomorrow. Right now, I'm just telling you
Prongo's country tonight.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
Well, so Karen kay when he and everything, it's the
only thing that's right, and winning comes at a price.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Stoo Ball
