Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time to get to our anticipated big board.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Wide receivers, the bane of Nick Ferguson's existence. He used
to love to light them up. So without further ado,
let's jump right in here at number ten. Now, I
will say this, I did not when we did this,
I did not classify Travis Hunter as a wide receiver.
So I may have to have eleven on mine if
we're doing it that way. But let's start with number ten.
Who is the tenth best receiver for Nick Ferguson in
this class.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Here's what I did.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
I know, usually we start with ten, but I kind
of jumped ahead. Okay, so I'm starting with eight, starting
with eight, I'm starting. I'm starting with my top eight.
Ok So Jalen Royals from Utah State. Now, last year
his numbers were awesome. Fifteen touchdowns, more than a thousand
(00:48):
yards receiving. I mean they rotated between quarterbacks, which tells
me that he has the ability to adjust no matter
what the quarterback is. He led the team in receptions
and yards. Year. He had Spencer Portrays who threw for
more than twenty three hundred yards, but he still put
up numbers, but not as much as he did last year.
(01:10):
But I like him because the idea is that he
can play with anyone and still put up numbers. Now,
my number seven is Exeba Rastreppo from the University of Miami.
On his pro day in Miami, he didn't run that well.
But here's what I do know. He fits well if
you want a slot receiver, and I know everyone falls
(01:30):
in love with forty speed, and it is important for
a guy who understands how to find the soft spot
in his own that's kind of.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Really important for me.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
So I like Restrepo at seven, okay, and you had
Jalen Royals at eight.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
I also Jala Royals at eight.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
By the way, on this so okay, great minds think
ike love the fact that he's a vertical threat six
foot two hundred and ten pounds former high school high
jumper six point four six feet four inches is his
record there for three two forty as an incoming freshman
or outgoing senior back in high school as well. So
he's got the speed, he's got the jump, got the
basketball background. I think that Jalen Royals could absolutely beach
up the NFL level. Did you don't have a ten
(02:07):
out of nine? So I'll just say mine real quick,
and that's Ricky White out UNLVA and Isaac Tesla out
of Arkansas or ten and nine, and then of course
Royals at eight.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Now at seven UH.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
One of the guys I love in this draft that
I don't think anybody's talking about. That's Dante Thornton out
of Tennessee UH six foot five.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Two o five. He led the UH.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
He led the team in UH receiving yards and touchdowns
despite the fact that he only had I can't everybody catches,
It was all totally.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
He had very few catches.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
During his UH during a sedior camp, Yeah, twenty six reception,
six touchdowns, six hundred and sixty one on twenty six receptions,
absolutely untouched. As far as explosive plays, go UH thirty
two and eight h arm four three forty.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
On on the deep speed.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Love his hand usage, explosive, surprisingly fluid hips for somebody
a size, little little thin he's put a little bit
of weight on and that's been a problem with him
with physical corners. But you know, and you saw him
kind of vanished for stretches of games against against physical corners.
But I think somebody who's creative can absolutely get a
hold of this guy and make him up.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
So I've got Dante Thornton as my number seven.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
So my number six is I'm going down south to
Texas and I got Isaiah Bond four. And when you
think about the two Texas receivers, because both of those
guys on my list, Bond has been one and Golden
being the other. But they had to kind of split
things as far as receptions, because I mean, Texas has
(03:38):
a lot of talent.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
The reason I like Bond.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Because once again, when you get young receivers, you said,
what other areas can you use his particular speed with?
And I always go back to being able to get
in and out of breaks, but also just kind of
that vertical explosion, right, And a team that gets Isaiah Bond,
they're going to get a talented player. And if I
had had to say that, he reminds me of what
(04:02):
reminded me of any anyone, you know, Chris Olive And
usually I don't like to make those kind of comparisons,
but uh, that's what I like in Bond to be.
But guy, you put him outside, you put.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Him in a slot.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Obviously he's got that game breaking speed and he's gonna
make life easier for any.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Quarterback, all right, I uh I yeah, Isaia Bond, I
do have a Texas receiver on this list.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
We'll get to that maybe a little bit later. At
h what are we at six? At six?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
For me, I have Trey Harris, the wide receiver out
of Old Miss UH six two two o five.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Love what he brings to the table.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Former two star recruited bat On himself went to LA
Tech and then transferred to Old Miss. You know, I
thought he had I thought he had a pretty good
season out there. Natural hands, tracked the ball well on
deep routes. I thought he played physical, you know, kind
of as Nick Ferguson say that dog mentality. Definitely definitely
had that at the uh you know, at at the
receiver position. Someone limited the route three a little lacking
(04:58):
explosiveness off the line to beat press and contact balance
could improve place be was an elite, but you know,
he found ways to do things. And I think there's
a boundary receiver there with TRUEX potential in an NFL offense.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Interesting.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
So, okay, so my number five is Jaden Higgins from
Minawa State. Big guy, yes, and you know, large man
catch radius and all of those things are so important
because we know in the NFL, unlike college, being open
as a guy being in phase with you, and that
means God being in your hip pocket. So when you're
(05:32):
a big guy and you can kind of elevate and
you can track the ball out of the air, and
I like to use bell crow hands right like they
just you just throw them up there. You don't even
have to look. Sometimes think like you gotta stick them
on it, right. But he's that type of guy who
has a bell crow hands and a big body, you know,
fifty to fifty guy, you know on those back line
(05:54):
in zone plays. He's great for that. I actually have
him higher than you, So we'll get to that. I
have him higher, so I'll get to that.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
My number five, though, is Kyle Williams, the wide receiver
out of Washington State. A little bit smaller guy, plays
a little differosition there, but you know he's got an
explosive release package, quick twitch footwork.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
If you watch Jerry Judy and.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
You like the way he gets out of out of
those cuts, you gotta love Kyle Williams. Dangerous catch and
run skill sets, smooth acceleration.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
You know, he's a little lean frame.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
We'll drift up field out of breaks rather than working
back to the ball sometimes. And he's not really a
good blocker, but I think there's something here. Again, this
is another guy if you can get him in motion
before the snap that you could be creative with. And
I think a creative O so he could do something with.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
All right.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Number four for me is Matthew Golden out of Texas
four to nine. And he's got that stop and start
and as a wide receiver, you definitely kind of need that.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Now.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
It's not the stop and start that you would only
see with the guy like DeVante Adams, but it is
enough to kind of change the Russian and get a
dB looking one way when you're looking to go the
opposite way. So I got Golden at four.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Okay, I have terroya mcmillion at four kind of Arizona.
I have Matthew go Old little higher than you do.
You know, I love his size. I love it than size,
but at six foot five six four six five two
twenty and you know, he got out there.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
He did really good with the jump ball stuff. I
love that about him.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
But it's weird to me because you see, you see
the comparisons to to Mike Evans for him and I
see more like DeVante Parker when I'm looking at him
a little less. Mike Evans was a monster athlete. I'm
not sure he's quite that dude. It doesn't have the
top end speed to consistently threaten vertically a little less
than explosive off the line of scrimmage. Got to work
on that release package a little bit. Are you strong
at the catch point? I will say that, but he
(07:44):
can be disrupted by physical corners at times, and the
route breaks are a little a little rounded out. The
one thing I did love that he did was I mean,
you know, he was an ex receiver, but I love
the fact they put him in that power slot sometimes
and that's where he really made some money. And that
might sort of be more of what he is at
the at the NFL level.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
All right, So my number three is a Mecca Igbucca
hopefully I pronounced he's right in.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
From Ohio state.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
The reason I liked I put this kid at number
three once again, it's working all three levels of the
defense and being able to run routes and as a
wide receiver, do you look for a superiority and route running, yes,
but being able to run every route on the right
route treat and do it with smooth precision. Is that's
(08:33):
what I see in ECBA. So I have him as
my number three.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Okay, I have him higher than you as well. So
the next all three of minor guys you have already said.
So my number three is Jadon Higgins. We are talking
about a little bit six four two fourteen, you know.
Love him as an outside X receiver, another former two star,
but who worked his way up. He's got great body control.
He talked about them bulco hands. He's got vacuum hands.
Man's got cold hoovers because they're stucking the ball up.
(08:59):
He's verse, he should play the actually played the Z,
played the slot, loved the football like you.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
So I'm a big fan of Jayden Higgins.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
He was my number three, all right, So, Tedroe McMillan,
I know some people are falling off for him based
on what he said about not kind of you know,
watching film or whatever, but just still talking strictly off
of athleticism and the ability that we see obviously, you know,
long strider thing type guy. I like him because he's
(09:25):
really smooth in his route running but then you talk
about the.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Fifty to fifty balls.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
I mean when you get a big body, wide receiver,
all of those things are in play because it gives
the quarterback a target. It's not your natural target where
I flashed my numbers in front of you in my
hands and you put it center mask.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
But it's no.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
It's like even when you cover your open those back
show to phase something that we have, you know, grown
used to seeing Courtland sudden dude, we didn't see a
lot of it last year, but Tedroll McMillan strikes me
as being that type of guy.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
My number two was a book you talked about. Yeah,
we're a combination of long speed and technical route running.
You know that you can usually get one or the other.
He's kind of got both natural hands, catcher, don't let
the ball into the body, sharp cuts, the.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Tie of the stem.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Struggled with block that was the one thing you want
to you watch with the run game stuff. Struggled to
block average sized frame, which could could be a little
bit of a problem. But he can play across the board.
There are a little bit of injury kind of Hey,
you missed a couple of games after ankle surgery. Back
in twenty twenty three, but he didn't seem to bother
him last year. Elite, straight line speed, all that kind
(10:32):
of stuff. Love the way that he wins. So's if
he's healthy at the pro level, I think he could
be a star all right.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Obviously at my number one is Travis Hunter. And someone said, well,
why would you put him at your number one when
it seemed as though the teams have not really decided
where they really wanted to play him and most people
are thinking maybe on the defense.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
I just go back to being at the Showcase and
Boulder on Friday, and I never once seen him back pedal.
He didn't back metal, He wouldn't play at all. He
was he was running routes. He was smooth. And the
biggest thing, uh that that stood out to me and
Brian Balding you from NF from Network asking me a question,
(11:12):
have I ever seen a workout where someone caught the
ball with no gloves?
Speaker 1 (11:17):
He did.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
That's that I was gonna mention that no gloves. He
took the gloves off for the workout. He had no
gloves on.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
And then someone said, well, why why would it be
necessary for a receiver or DB's to wear going Yes,
because that's important, and the idea is catching the ball
away from your body, because when you let allow the
ball to come into your body, it makes it easier
for for us as defenders because all we have to
do is come in ret with our arms hit you
(11:44):
in the back. Now we're just lodging the ball. So
once again, my number one receiver is Travis Hunchin.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
He's a freak. He's the best player in college football.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Well, with the caveat that, I view him as a
corner who can play some receiver, so I excluded him
from this. I would put him at number one. My
number one was Met Golden absolute burner. Uh you know,
if you funch this guy play, I mean he's got
speed for days, you know, five eleven, one ninety one.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
But he could still he could play the X.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
He's he's great on the route tree, natural hands catcher.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Does he remind you of Jackson Smith and Jabbo faster? Okay?
Speaker 2 (12:24):
But I mean just a nasty route runner he uh uh.
He also kicked and punt return as well. Competitive it's
a catch point despite his size. Along when small dudes
get out there and they're fight, they're feisty for the
ball in the air.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
He's kind of that guy. Uh.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
That was one of the things that sold me. Obviously.
The frame is, you know, could use a little bulk,
all that kind of stuff, the blocking effort and technique
for a guy like that needs. But if if you
are a team like Miami, and by the way, you
know Tyreek Hill's posting all this nonsense to Twitter about
one out, maybe you consider moving on from Tyreek Hill
bringing this guy into pair up with j La Wattle.
You're cheaper and younger with that kind of stuff. If
(12:59):
you're a Alice and you need somebody to compliment opposite
Ceedee Lamb, maybe bring this guy in.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
To take the top off on the other side. I
love what he brings to the table.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
He will absolutely be a deep threat on day one
and have to you know, kind of work his way
around on a few other things.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
But this could be that he could be something. So
Matt Golden ended up being my number one.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
I would love to see Golden in Baltimore fiate with
Lamar Jackson because lamar best receivers are his tight ends,
Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, so to have another outside
threat because that's what they drafted Hollywood Brown for.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
That's what he was supposed to be. But that would
make things.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Really interesting in that division with grants Cincinnati Bengals and
their talented wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
So I would love to see that take place.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Yeah, I'm yeah, that's there are a lot of uh
with these receivers. Some of them, it was about trying
to envision the fit too, you know, like because not
every receiver is a fit for what everybody's you know,
out there trying to do. Sean Payton likes his receivers
mostly a little bit bigger and able to contribute the
run game, especially with that blocking prowess.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
You know. Now he'll get a burner on the back side.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Every once in a while, you get the mimes, you
go back to the you know, the Brandon Cooks or whatever.
But he tends to like the He likes big receivers
as far as X stuff goes.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
You go look at Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
They like them small and fast, right and I to
be able to get up there tear it up on
the deep crossers.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
It's like a build off play action on that.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
So it's it's it really is, you know, kind of
dealer's choice when it comes to these kind of things,
it's a lot. It's for me, it's it's so much
tougher to project wide receivers because there's a specific guy
or specific fit, you know, for each team.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah, it's really interesting. That's why asking Romie if she
saw that, because I don't know if anyone was paying
attention to it the showcase that yes, Sean Payton was there, but.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Who he was talking to another taller, you know, taller guy.
But here's the crazy thing about it.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Before Sean Payton rolled up on the spot, you and
I were talking as we were walking out of the
weight room after the vertical jump, and we were just like,
you know what, it would be really interesting if the
Broncos were to go in this direction with Will Shepherd,
because you're right, Peyton loves big body, wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
He would add to the mix.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
And then you look at Devon Beyley and Vyley is
kind of a high cut guy, but he still at
the combine he ran the four or five four and
then the second forty was a four to four eight,
So it tells you that he kind of gets stronger.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
As games go along.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
But just think about adding that to the Broncos mix
as far as wide receivers and giving bo an opportunity
on every single passing play.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Shepherd's a smart guy, by the way.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
It was originally at Vanderbilt before he came out to
Colorado Free Star out of high school. Six foot eight
high jump back in high school, by way, I just
talked about that sixty four high jump minuted to go
six foot eight high jump, and we certainly saw that
leaping ability on display as he wowed the locker room
as showcase.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
I mean, it was a spectacular jump, and usually you
see a guy do that and you're like, a, you
know what that just for just testing, you know, purposes,
But can't he really do that in the game. And
I saw, you know, Will Shepard doing those types of things,
you know, this past season. I think they were playing
Texas Tech. In Texas Tech and he caught like a
(16:20):
fade route in the back of the Enzo, and it
seemed like he didn't have that much room in the Enzo,
but he was able to haul in the kitch and
keep his feet and bound. So I would love to
see him in the Broncos uniform.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
I wouldn't be a post nine to nine to see
your text. I'll answer that when we get back. We
got the NFL six back too, We'll come back. Broncos Country.
Don Kawa, the nine to nine has been texting me
for a little bit more than just tonight, and I've
been meaning to get to it.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Had got to it, and.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
I'll say this question. First of all, I disagree with
the Texter's premise. And this is what I've told you
so far, so how the draft will shakeout. So he says,
based on what you've told us so far, this is
how our draft will shake out. No, I disagree with
that premise. I've tried to give you options and ideas.
But some of these players I do believe are in
play for the Broncos. And he list his mock draft
here is having Harmon in the first round, Mason Taylor
(17:08):
in the second round, Jalon Royal is in the third,
Giddons in the fourth, which is not going to be
available there, uh, Jayden Blue and in the sixth I think,
and then who knows for other two six's thoughts. I
do believe that Harmon, Mason, Taylor, Royals could all be
in play for the Broncos. I don't know necessarily they'll
get away, you know, any or all of them, but
I believe they're all in play.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
A lot of that depends on what happens before them.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
You know, if Omrio and Hampton happens to be there,
I think that's somebody that's gonna take a strong look
at it. I don't happen to think he's gonna be
there at twenty. So, you know, Mason Taylor is somebody
I know. They like Brian Neiedermeyer, who they just hired
on the offensive control side over there was formerly a
tight end. And also Mason Taylor's coach back in high school.
(17:54):
So there's there's connections there with some of this other
stuff that maybe behind the scenes who want out. But but
you know, harm the defensive lineman on Oregon. Yeah, I
think it's entirely possible. It just depends on what combination
of things happened. Mason Taylor. I think that's the most
likely scenario in a trade back, because I'm not sure
he's gonna be there by their second round pick. So
those are those are all things to keep your eye on.
(18:15):
But as far as that goes, you know, I like which,
I like where you're at with that. I just I'm
it's still way too early for me to say this
is how things are gonna shake out.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
And so with that, it's time for the NFL six Pac,
It's time for the NFL six pad.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
I'm gonna take a last year insight and insight information
you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
No. Six the top six NFL headlines. What.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
According to Ben's great friend Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports,
Alabama quarterback had jal and Melroe had private workouts with
the Saints and the Browns. Also, Melroe will reportedly attend
the NFL Draft this year in green Bay. First off,
is there any truth that he will be attending the
draft and Green Bay? And secondly, what do you think
(19:02):
of milrose prospects as a quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Yes, he is going to Green Bay, although I think
he's there for day two. Well, he's there for like
the first day. I don't know, man, I mean, like,
I'd give him a shot, you know, I mean, he
played quarterback in Alabama.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
You gotta give him a shot. That's said.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
I think the thing about giving him a shot is
if it doesn't work out, he's a dynamic athlete and
you could probably convert him to running back if it
doesn't work, And so I think that there's like a
safety net there and taking him might might even help
make him go a little bit higher. I think he's
a Day two guy. Don't think he's gonna go in
the first round, but I mean, I take a shot.
I mean, there's that kind of athleticism you kind of
(19:38):
have to take a shot out.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Especially think about this. You mentioned the Saints.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Look what Kellen Moore did with Jalen Hurts, you know,
and the running and those kinds of things. He might
be able to work some packages in there, especially near
the goal line for this guy I did.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Working packages in for a guy that you're thinking to
take a quarterback. That's kind of a day two type
of project. I mean, Jalen has a lot of ability
as he developed into what you may think is starting
quarterback in the NFL is right now? No, But is
he a versy to the weapon on the right team?
(20:12):
Could it be deployed the correct way? Absolutely? But how
him going to Green Bay for the draft? It's for
day two.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
That's an indicator.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
On Day one, Yeah, that's an indicator that he probably
will be drafted maybe earlier people think, But I don't
think he's I don't think.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
He's going on date one. I don't too. That's right too. Well,
this is a selfish story for me.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Running Back Trevion Henderson helped Ohio State within the National
title in January, and he'll be visiting a nearby team
as part of his pre draft process. Jeremy Fowler of
ESPN reports that Henderson will visit the Bengals this week.
A report last week indicated Henderson's Buckeye backfield mate twin
Shawn Judkins will also be meeting with the Bengals. And
(20:56):
my question for you, are both of these guys in
upgrade over Chase Brown, who was their lead running back
last year. Well, I mean Judkins is a different back
than Chase Brown.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
You know, he's more of a sledgehammer. Well, first of all,
the Broncos visited.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
With Judkins already, and they may be visiting with Trayvon
Henderson too, So that's interesting.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
They both could have their eye on that as well.
I think Trayon fits in nice here in Denver. I
think he does with a skill set.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
The questions is medicals I think for me, But beyond that,
both those guys could be nice.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
I don't know if I'd.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Necessarily say they're both an upgrade over Chase Brown, but
they could be.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
They very much could be.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
No, I'm not gonna say they're upgrades over Chase Brown.
I'll just say this, they would be. I think Guy
would be a nice complimentary piece because we do remember
when the Cincinnati Bengals did go to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
What did they have?
Speaker 3 (21:46):
They had Samajah p Ryan and they had Joe Mixon
in the backfield. And I think that's what more teams
in the NFL are trying to do to make sure
they have a stable of running backs. Judkins is one
of those guys I would love to see in the
Broncos uniform because how he runs the ball. And I've
said before but he reminds me of Jamiir Giff. But
you know, Chase Brown, man hackerb running back. He was
(22:09):
kind of under the radar when he came into the league,
but he's definitely made a name for himself.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Three after CSU graduate Trey McBride signed a four year,
seventy six million dollar extension, he was asked whether he
had a new clause and his contract banning hurdling that
was the top of the page. I think the Cardinals
tight end, said via Darren Urban of the team website.
Photos and videos abound of McBride's signature hurdles, so you
(22:38):
can see how often he jumps over the or tries
to jump over the defenders.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Cardinals coaches don't like it.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Fearing a serious injury for McBride, McBride has promised that
he will try to kick his habit.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
He said, I definitely don't want to do that anymore.
Do you think that he should get rid of his
signature hurdling, Well, I think you want to be making
some you know, you want to.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Make smart decisions with your body. But muscle memories a
hell of the thing.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Man.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
It's just tough to forget how to do something if
you if that's what you've been doing and getting away with,
you know, over the course of your career.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
So I don't know that. I mean, I don't know
that i'd tell them not to do that.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I would just say, hey, look, you know, we want
you to be healthy and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Make smart decisions when it comes to this.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Don't maybe don't pull it all the way out of
the repertoire, but don't do it if you don't have to.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Hey man, you can't tell a racehorse out run you
just you can't really do it when you have natural
guide given ability. And then it's instant and anticipation to
know when when DB's are gonna go low, because playing
in today's game, most of the dbs don't even know
how to tackle. So you know they're gonna duck their
head anyway. Give you a chance to guess what jump
(23:45):
right over them. So they ducked their head deep over them.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
As Nick was talking about to you know your god
given talent and when you're the opposite of that, when
you have no tellent whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
I tried. I tried to tunnel under and I was
warned not to do that either. Quick.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
Do you think that Tray McBride was deserving of the
contract four year, seventy six million. I mean, only one
touchdown last year, but at one hundred and eleven catches
or something.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
You're worth with somebody will pay you fair point, that
is for all right.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
We were talking about the Raiders earlier today. Geno Smith,
the new Raiders quarterback, said that he and Pete Carroll
have unfinished business. He said, when people think about my story.
Coach Carroll is a big part of that. He gave
me an opportunity when not many people would have when
he saw the hard work I was putting in. He
saw the things behind the scenes that I do that
(24:34):
allowed me to get this opportunity to be able to play.
For him to be part of this organization, it means
everything to myself and my family. I was just telling
him I'll run through a wall for him, and he
knows that. Are you worried about this connection between Carol
and Gino Smith reuniting in Las Vegas? And also just
(24:55):
a little caveat He said that the Seahawks did not
match the offer that the race gave to him. Do
you think that the Seahawks should have I think they
should have.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Gino was, you know, turned his career round up there.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
I thought he played well in unfavorable circumstances last year.
You look at the situation that he was seeing that
the blocking scheme was terrible. They him dropping back sixty
times a game, sixty five times a game. I thought
they kind of did it dirty because he had a
little bit last year. I don't want Gino running through
a wall. Please don't hurt yourself sir, But you know
him and Pete, you know they got a connection. They
(25:27):
do and you know, I have always been worried about
Pete Carroll there with the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
I don't think Gino is exactly going to light the.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
World on fire, but I think he is a very,
very capable quarterback and certainly a gigantic upgrade for ade O'Connell.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Well, I'll say this about Geno.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Gino definitely is a turned his career around from what
we saw of his career when he was drafted by
the Jets on the second day of the draft. And yeah,
you should have the Seattle Seahawks had signed him back. Yeah,
based on what he was able to do, especially coming
in after Russ was kind of you know, traded to
(26:05):
the Denver Broncos. But you don't always give what you
want in life sometimes, and especially when it comes to
certain teams.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
But I love the idea of.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
Geno saying that he would run through a wall. That's
the kind of attitude that you know that you have
to have when it's coming from a coach and you
believe in that coach and that coach believes in you,
Like I mean, I would run through the wall for
Bill Parcells. I would run through the wall for Mike Shenahan. Right.
It's those coaches that you are around, they instill that
(26:36):
in you, that winning instant. And keep this in mind.
When everyone threw caution to the win and kick Geno
to the curve, who was there to motivate him and
pick up the pieces?
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Pete Carroll? So I understand five.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
We talked about Ashton Gent a little bit earlier, but
he is the overwhelming favorite to be the first running
back drafted. And speaking of the Raiders, they are the
favorites to draft the former.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Boise State star.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Via Draft kings, Genty is a minus five thousand favorite
as a first tailback off the board. He's a minus
one thirty favorite to go to the Raiders, who hold
the sixth overall pick. Do you think Ashton Gent will
be a Raider? And if they do not pick him,
where do you think he ends up?
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Might be the very next pick? I mean the Jets, unless.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Somebody is ahead of them to take the you know today, Honestly,
I think he's a Raider unless somebody takes him ahead
of the Raiders. That minus one thirty number, that's kind
of tasty. The minus five thousand numbers terrible. That means
you have to have bet five thousand dollars to win
one hundred bucks.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I'm good on that. As far as the rest.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Of it goes, Yeah, I mean, I've always thought he
was gonna wind up being a Raiders.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
I know that's tough for Broncos country. I don't think
that's the last thing we want to do.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
With c JT go from being a Bronco to being
a Raider for Boise State up there.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
But yeah, I think he could very much wind up there.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
I definitely believe that too as well, because looking at
where the Raiders were trying to go and thinking about
the history of Pete Carroll back at USC and even
with the Seattle Seahawks, the run game was a huge
part of it because that opens up play action and
we're just talking about Gino. What did Gino not have
a lot of in Seattle after Pete was gone? They
(28:18):
didn't have a lot of play actions. So I can
still I can see that. But there is a consolation prize.
Don't forget that Chip Kelly coached at Ohio State, so
they don't.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Take ashon Jens.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
If someone else takes him, he can take Junkins or
he could.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Take He might even take Janthe a double dip on
jud Kinds later. Who knows, six.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
In three years football will finally land in the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
That's flag football.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Various NFL players have expressed interest in playing the league office,
as we understand it, once that to happen. The owners, however,
are being a little more cautious, which has created tension
between the NFL and the people who own the NFL teams.
Do you think that NFL players should participate in the
Olympics And is it a big deal that the LA
(29:09):
Olympics will run from July fourteenth through July thirtieth of
twenty twenty eight, which means any NFL players who participate
will likely miss part of training camp.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Well, that part of it could be a little bit
of a deal. As far as them playing in it,
I think they should be a lot if.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
They want to.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
The CBA doesn't prohibit them from doing it, so the
ownership with it. They might not like it, but they
can't exactly stop them. The only question would be the
overlap with training camp and those kinds of things.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
I'm all for it. I mean, don't we want to
you know in the USA want to win.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
The football players got pride and playing football, right, even
if it is flag football.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
We want to go out and put our best on
that stage. You know. I I don't know if it
were me and.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I were running a training camp, but a veteran wanted
to go out there and play.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
It's going to longly of this a couple of days.
I think I might let them.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
It all depends on who you are as a player
in your position with the organization. If you are one
of those players that are on the US making a roster,
obviously no. But we've seen that college basketball players used
to play in the Olympics until they start taking l's
and then then you get to this basketball association has
to get involved. I say, allow some of these guys
(30:16):
who ordinarily wouldn't have the spotlight, allowed them an opportunity
to have the spotlight four years from now. If the
NFL players want to participate, then you can participate.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
So you're saying, first year in LA the US Olympics,
you're gonna let the regular flag football's player players play
and not NFL players.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Yeah, you don't remember on I think NFL network used
to do this thing. Where they had almost like pros
Versus Joe's, where they had NFL guys on flag football
teams playing against kind of regular you know, Joe Schmos,
and that Joe Schmos.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Did put them in.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
They did work because when you when you're football player,
you get used to being tackled and tackling other people.
When it comes to flag football is how quickly can
you move in short area spaces? And a lot of
these guys who played in high school they mastered that,
aren't so I said, well a lot of those guys,
to give that that window opportunity to let them shine.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
What about an exhibition game before the Olympics and we
see the best of what the NFL has to offer
and these guys that do flag football professionally, and then
if the NFL players run them out of the water,
maybe we change our minds.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
I'm game for that. I'm game for that anyway, just
for the showcase game. But you know, pros versus Joe's
or whatever. But I'm still I'm I'm yeah to.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Me, I don't want to win everything, so I want
Tyreek Hill. I know, I want Tyreek Hill out there
running against some guy from Korea, you know, and Patrick
mahones on.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Man, come on, yeah, well listen, but you're not gonna
get a whole gang of guys because not everyone is
built for flag football.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
No, but I mean, dude, come on, like we all
want to see Tyreek Hill against some guy from you know, Antigua.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Try to defend him.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Give me Tyreek Hill in Divine Adams of the wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
I'm just saying to be unfair.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Jerry Judy at there breaking ankles, Yes, Broncos cuntri that
rolls off to this Nick you ready, I'm ready, I
was born ready.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
M m hmmmm
