Beyond ACEs: Early Intervention for a Positive Impact

Young children who have experienced traumatic events may exhibit problems with speech-language development, sleep disturbances or negative food behaviors. In addition, research has shown that children who experience adversity are more likely to adapt unhealthy coping mechanisms.  Since 2013, the Beyond Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Clinic at Children’s Mercy Kansas City, has cared for more than 200 children who have experienced traumatic events in their early lives. Lisa Spector, MD is here to explain how the program offers access to a unique multidisciplinary team approach found at only a handful of hospitals across the nation.
