She is the founder of the probiotics industry in the United States. Natasha’s family raised sheep in the Republic of Macedonia for 750 years. They exported yogurt and feta cheese to Western Europe. Her father opened a store in Belgrade to share these yogurts and cheeses. He eventually became the official court supplier to the king’s court for yogurt, cheeses and liquid acidophilus. World War II erupted and the Yugoslavian government changed. Natasha's family fled to the United States as a result.Natasha’s father started his own yogurt business when they reached the U.S. Continental Culture Specialists was located in Glendale, California. All yogurt was unflavored at this time. As a teen, Natasha helped her father at trade shows with her translations on the health benefits of these bacteria.Natasha then peddled the family yogurt to local health stores. Most health food stores didn’t have refrigeration, which presented her with interesting challenges. She developed honey-sweetened Royal Yogurt, one of the first actual foods to be sold by the American health food industry. She sold liquid acidophilus to the health food industry and to a few discerning health practitioners who recognized its health benefits. Groups who visited the Glendale plant started sharing the miraculous health improvements they saw from consuming the yogurt and acidophilus. Realizing there was something more to it, Natasha left the family yogurt business to pursue the health benefits of bacteria.
