Speaker 2 (00:24):
You just got to get out there and swing and
ding it.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, you know, just guess it's going to go out
there and try to swing it and ding it.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Welcome back to Inside GOP. We are here at the
clubhouse of the nineteen twelve Club frommuth Meeting, Pennsylvania. We'll
get into a little bit more about the nineteen twelve
Club as the show moves on, but they introduce the staff,
the crew, the guys that make it happen on the
podcast Swing It and Ding It. Harry mays, no stranger
(00:59):
by the way to Inside GoF Harry's been on the
show a couple of times in the past.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Good to see Harry, to be with you, Hair.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
And this is Moose aka Jeff Moore, another Temple guy
and he also is.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
One of the contributors.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
And maybe I guess let's get into the history of
this podcast. The idea man behind the whole thing. Now,
we know the common denominator for you, guys is the
game of God.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
But what else?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
I mean, how did you all get together and decide
let's go and swing and ding it?
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Well, all three Temple guys first and foremost.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Oh wait a minute, let me get another Temple plug.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
You know, full disclosure, play by play football, basketball forever, okay,
and a Temple golf hat.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
All right, Welcome in to swing It and ding It.
Thank you to Mike Powers for putting that together. We
dedicate this show to our friend Harry Donnau, who passed away.
We'll talk a lot more about Harry later in the show,
but just as Harry would want, we're going to talk
about Philly off today. And if you are a guest
on Swing It and Ding It, this is what I
think it says about you. And we welcome in. Francesca Russio,
(02:10):
Welcome to swing it and ding It.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Thanks guys, that that was pretty good.
Speaker 6 (02:17):
Was good was the appearance of both Harry and Moose's flow.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
I was during COVID man.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
I didn't cut my hair for a long time.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
Able to get your hair cut right, So Francesca, welcome
to swing and ding it. Thank you for attending the
Swing It and ding it open, benefiting the Magical Meal Foundation.
I hope you had as much fun as we did
that day, because we had a blast. That was that
was a great time. Soll us, we'll talk about the
outing too. But I think the first review course review
(02:52):
video you posted, I think it was like August eleventh,
something like that. Did you ever think when you posted
that it would turn into what it is turned into?
Speaker 7 (03:03):
Well, first off, I didn't even learn how to cut
my hair during COVID, so I think that was that
was I mean, I was jealous of the people who did. Anyways,
I can't believe I just started to post, and you know,
COVID did. While we're on the topic of COVID, COVID
did teach me a lot. And it's that, you know,
apparently life's too short, and so is my attention span
(03:24):
to really care what people think. I just kind of,
you know, wanted to get back into the Philly golf
and I just thought, let me just put this spoof
thing out there.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
And I knew it was risk and I had no
idea what end me. I would end up on the
Swing and dig It podcasts.
Speaker 7 (03:40):
So that was the end goal for you though, right, yeah,
Danielle's sure, of course that was the end goal.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
But apparently people like it, and I think, I don't know.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
I just think that there's this whole theme of authenticity
that comes with it, and you say the quiet part
out loud and have fun with it and not really like.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Take yourself too seriously.
Speaker 7 (04:03):
I'm someone who does not take myself seriously, and thank
goodness that there's this whole category of golf etiquette that
keeps me in line, keeps me my own little box
on the golf course. But then that's why you give
the nineteenth pole. But here we are, we're still making
the videos. The following nearly doubled since then TikTok we're
(04:23):
over I think one thirty seven thousand, so we've been posting. Yeah,
we're getting busy, and it's so hard to build a
following on TikTok. So that's why I had to say
that it's very difficult to build a following on TikTok.
You can like somebody's content. I know, you can like
somebody's content, but nobody wants to follow. It's just it's
crazy work.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
But here we are posting. Everybody's enjoying the work. But
if there's anybody listening right now that isn't sure what
we're talking about, give them a brief synopsis of what
you do. The breakdown and kind of what mooses intro meant.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yeah, you got it so well.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
First off, I didn't realize that it would have this
big of an impact.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I didn't realize how big Philly golf was.
Speaker 7 (05:02):
There's a lot of golf courses here in the Philadelphia area.
And I think, I remember, I think, so, I think
this is how the whole thing transpired. I have a
cousin who's a member at White Marsh and we've been
trying to my dad and I we've been trying to
link up with him to go play at White Marsh,
and every single time that tea time kept falling through.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
So I kept thinking about.
Speaker 7 (05:24):
The stereotypical archetype of the kind of individual my cousin is.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Love him, And then I started.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
To think, I'm wondering if so, if he exists, he
goes to White Marsh, what about Union League? Well, what
about this? So then I started to put the ideas together.
You know what, this could be a funny, crazy and
very risky spoof bit.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Let's just put a video out there.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
So we went right for the jugular with Aronomic in
the part of video.
Speaker 8 (05:48):
Golf Mills Marion Philly CC and I've had a few
tactics there to really spark up the engagement, and you know,
then I.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
Started to enjoy this series because I saw the mixed
reviews that it got, and clearly I do have to
put a disclaimer that it's entertainment purposes only, and for
entertainment purposes only, because people will just take it to
dance degree and it's social media.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
It's the most unserious thing ever.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
So then here we are, we're doing these videos, and
I didn't realize myself how many golf courses there are
in Philly.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Which is great, you guys, yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
So I thought, okay, let's just keep it.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
But I didn't. Honestly. I started the show right it
was March twenty twenty, so it was right before COVID
hit and I got in the golf late. And it's
been incredible just learning about Philly golf, all the courses.
We've had a lot of the people on this show,
so I've learned over the past couple of years. Just
how vast it is in this area, huge, say, the
embarrassment of riches we have. But there are so many
(06:52):
courses here and so many great ones.
Speaker 7 (06:54):
So why did it take you this long to get
into golf? So you said COVID was when you started
to really get into it. A lot of people got
took golf around COVID time.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
It's funny in that interview that Harry did, it was
I started when I was working with Harry at the
Fanatic and then in my like thirties. But then when
Tiger won the Masters in twenty nineteen, that's when I
just got a bit bit hard by the bug and
dove back into it full time.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
I know he came back, didn't he. Yeah, And his
son's like killing it too.
Speaker 7 (07:21):
And oh my god, we're gonna have a Tiger two
point oh any moment now. And I believe, I believe
the next wave of golfers, within give it ten to
fifteen more years, they're going to be unbelievable because it's
the millennials who are raising those kids. We are the
ones who have regret, deep set regret not getting into
golf in high school.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Right, we all wanted to do field.
Speaker 7 (07:43):
Hockey, soccer, baseball, football, Those were the sports. Now we
are throwing golf clubs in our kids's hands as we speak.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
And Danielle and I we kind of talked about that too.
We talked about it, were talked about it.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
He said, my daughter, let me see your golf ring.
She's like, and she's sixteen months a seven iron, plastic clubs,
just everything.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
See.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, well you talk about all, you know, not knowing
that there were so many golf courses in the Philadelphia area.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
So you found that out.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
How many of the golf courses have you actually played?
And how do you go about if you haven't played it?
Like what do you just sort of like, you know,
think about, you know, what's the typical member there, and
you come up with kind of like explain, just how
do you do it, like if you've never been there?
Speaker 7 (08:26):
Okay, Okay, So there's a lot of questions there because
I can go in two different directions. Have so to
your first question, have I played at all the golf
courses that.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
I reviewed and did content on. Yes and no.
Speaker 7 (08:41):
Let's just say this, I've had a lot of nice offers,
but I'm kindly declining a lot of those nice offers,
and it just depends on who's reaching out.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
You know.
Speaker 7 (08:51):
For example, when I the owner of Bluebell, they reached
out the Hanson family, so we went out and I
played with them.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
You know, the.
Speaker 7 (09:00):
Legacy women's members over at Philly c C. Plus the
pro at Philadelphia Country Club reached out to me.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
So that's all I'll say. You can read between the lines.
The Philadelphia golf community is.
Speaker 7 (09:11):
Very warm and welcoming, but you know, you gotta.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
I can't imagine that. Those look like.
Speaker 7 (09:19):
I just got back from manufacturers today too, so I've
had two transfusions, so I'm really trying my best to
not no, no slippitch here.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
Let's get.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Very funny.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
We like the evening recordings ourselves.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Oh there you go. Oh god jealous. Now I've got
some h two over here that's not going to do anything.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
So that's so the first question is your Your first
question is have I gotten to play it all the
courses I reviewed?
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Yes and no?
Speaker 7 (09:46):
And then your second question is my process. I think
like I'm not gonna lie, and I think I don't
have Daniel. We talked about this, but you this is
stereotypical Philadelphia Eagles member, like Eagles fan base, right, and
then you we have different food groups, right, We've got
the three main food groups. For education, Villanova, Saint Jose,
(10:06):
Temple University, you know. And then I made I made
a joke about throwing a little corn Now there's always
a random person from Cornell in the mixture, right, It's
always Corneal or Syracuse or something or what's the other one, Perdue,
I don't.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Know, you know what I mean, there's always that random outlier.
Speaker 7 (10:24):
Then you get into what what does the city represent, right?
What kind of individuals regarding representation for work employment?
Speaker 2 (10:34):
And where do those.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
Individuals typically live, Where do they go about their lives,
what courses do they play, what kinds of families and
sports are they throwing onto their kids?
Speaker 2 (10:47):
The kinds of husbands they are, the kinds of wives
that they are. It's just it's almost like what parish
did they grow.
Speaker 7 (10:53):
Up And in a way you kind of have like
an idea of who that individual is based on what
parish that they want, in what school that they wanted.
That was how we got to know people back in
the day. So for example, I'm from Bucks County specifically.
You know, I won't get too niche, but I'm from
the Doylestown area. I went to Central Bucks East High School.
I graduated twenty eleven. I played for the Central Bucks
(11:15):
High School girls golf teams. That was the Yearly won States.
I had to throw that in there because.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
He and Hall of Fame inductee congratulates exactly.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Thank you you did your homework.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Love that work.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
And I think about the individuals who I graduated with,
who I see all the time in Doylestown when I
go out and enjoy my free time with my family,
and I think about that person, and I caricaturize that
individual and I put them on the golf course and
I can only imagine that's who they really are. And
(11:47):
sometimes I even put my own personal experiences, so in
a way I am speaking on I guess like experiential
knowledge of how I play and how I go about
my game, and I just caricaturize all of that. So
you know, it's you get different kinds of groupings of
people and then you just kind of like create different
(12:08):
character characters of those individuals.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
And you know, the dms are so funny.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
One of my I can tell you I think I
made in my first video and I believe it was.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Was it Philly Cricket Club?
Speaker 7 (12:20):
I think I said, you married into money and now
you pretend to give a shit about squash. So I
said that was my first big punchline. And I had
a girl message to me, like girl, your video came
into my for you page because it's like I just
realized and I wanted to know, did you overhear my conversation?
I did marry a member, I did marry into money,
but I did okay before, But damn, why squash?
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Is it really all that great?
Speaker 7 (12:45):
Like, you know, the dms are just kind of like
validating the humor and the relatability of the humor, and
that's just all the validation that I need.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Not that I'm doing this for validation, but you know,
I'm a little like, okay, this.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Is it so fun? So you talked a little bit
about Central Bucks, a little bit we taught. We always
like to talk about the golf journey here, right, We
talked about how I got into it. Right, You started
out played in high school. It was awesome. You got
to play it look away like that's pretty cool. As
a home course. You decided to take a shot at
the college golf world, and then it seemed like maybe
(13:19):
that wasn't totally a fit for you and went into
some different directions. So just talk about how that kind
of happened and how you found your way back.
Speaker 7 (13:27):
Yeah, you got it, And I'll try to give the
elevator pitch because it's that's about like ten years right there,
So get it. The way I got into golf, I
my dad loved sports. We were sports. Me and my sisters.
We all played sports, and my dad coached all of
our sports. He wanted to get at least one of
us into golf and the way that he did it,
(13:47):
and he knew, he knew we loved spending time with him.
I'm one of three sisters, So my sister Carla and
myself we were very young spring Mills not too far.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
There was a public range back in the day. It
was a little bit of a chippen putt, mini put putt,
whatever the hell you call it.
Speaker 7 (14:04):
And then there's the course in the country club across
the way. So what my dad and I would do
with my sister, Okay, let's go grab ice.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Cream, but let's go first.
Speaker 7 (14:14):
Let's first go on the range, and let's go of
do some minigolf, let's do some putt putts.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
So he founded, this.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Is the way to do it. There needs to be
some kind of bargain.
Speaker 7 (14:27):
First, ice cream right in a way, because then it
triggers you to want to earn it.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
You want to earn that that thing.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
So for us it was always ice cream we wanted
to earn, but no ice cream with rainbow Jimmy's that's
what we wanted.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
That's what we wanted to earn. So when we.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
Would do well in minigolf, putt putt on the range,
whatever you call it, my dad would reward us with
ice cream.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
And then I started to fall in love with like
hitting a golfbel and watching that thing sore.
Speaker 7 (14:52):
Then from there I started to build a set. I
entered the Philadelphia Junior Tour. I did that tour in
middle school and high school. I think I as Player
the Year in twenty ten. Then that next year, we
had enough girls to create and put together a cbe
East's very first women's girls golf team.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
And you only need four girls to do that. So
the four of us we went through the.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
SOLS suburban leagues, districts, regionals, and states and we had
to compete against a lot of the private private schools
because and these girls were teams of eight, six, twelve, sixteen.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
We were four.
Speaker 7 (15:31):
So if we had five, let's say we had five,
we would at least have a rebound score.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
In case of the four of us didn't.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
Perform, that love for would count.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
We had a bad up.
Speaker 7 (15:45):
We only had us four, and that was that. And
in a weird way, when we were sixteen or seventeen,
we were kind of ignorant to how good we were
as a team. And also the fact that my life
was every Monday, I would go and do my classes
and then go play golf at look Away.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
As a seventeen year old, that's a good day.
Speaker 7 (16:08):
That initiation, if he mind you, is north of one
hundred k and I'm there just just totally screwing up
the turf and you know, like I am chopping up
that fair way. So I'm like, I didn't realize at
the time, but now years later I was like, damn,
I really had it made. I was so blessed to
(16:28):
have that experience. And then you know, from there, I
still played golf. I went ahead and I got a
nice Division one. I played for a big D one
school down in Maryland called thousand, but it wasn't for me,
and I'm glad that I tried it because I wanted
I really loved Philadelphia and I really had this dream
of my for me to be somewhere in the news space,
(16:50):
the journalism space, in the Philadelphia market.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
And I didn't like Maryland.
Speaker 7 (16:54):
I'm like Baltimore, b moore, ef, you guys have no culture.
You're gross, this is stupid. I hated everything about Irland.
I hated everything about that city. Just to be honest,
I hate I hate.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I hated it. So we transferred to Temple. I met Danielle.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
I met Danielle, and then I was you know, I
did the Temple University Temple Update Student news program, and
then I was Miss Philadelphia, which was great because that's
scholarship money. That's purely why I did it, and also
to just to really integrate back into the Philadelphia community
in such a catapulting way, and Miss Philadelphia was a
platform to do that. And that year I actually did
(17:34):
put together a few charity golf tournaments for veterans, So
I really advocated for veterans.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
That was my platform that I championed.
Speaker 7 (17:41):
And then from there we did NBC ten, and I
did traffic for a little bit over there twenty sixteen,
twenty seventeen, and then I kind of just went to
Los Angeles learned how to properly storytell and how to
do content and produce films.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
And I'm working on a.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
Goal off concept right now that I think would make
for a great limited series. But golf content's big at
the moment. And then I found my way back here.
We're still doing LA. We're like sixty forty right now.
I still go back there for events and whatnot, and
I've got a great community and base over there. But
this is home. This is home. You can't leave this area.
You think you can, but you really can.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
So what pulled you backack? Why come back to Philly?
Why rediscover your love of golf and start creating content
in this space? What sparked that again for you?
Speaker 7 (18:32):
That's a really good question. I would say the lack
of golf over there. And I had every intention to
really try to find myself as a content creator in
the Los Angeles market.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
The only thing with LA.
Speaker 7 (18:45):
Is there's little There's really not a big golf scene
in Los Angeles. I mean, you may have Revere, a
Mountain Gate, the usual suspects lacc and then you're slumming
it at Rancho Golf Course, which is a public golf
course that mimics LA traffic. So by the time you
decide you want to get a tea time you're pulling
up to the first hole, there's two four sums waiting
(19:07):
a tea, a for some on the tea box, afore
some in the fairway, and afore some.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
On the green. So I do little to no golf culture.
Speaker 7 (19:17):
And clearly, if you're going to go play at Revere
and I've had the I've had the privilege to do
so you need to like cultivate such intense, uh quite
an intense community and network, like like your life depends
on it to be able to get invited to courses
like that. So it's it was very difficult. My club's
(19:37):
collected more dust than berries.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
I'll just say that.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Yeah, Well, how describe the typical week for you now here?
Speaker 4 (19:45):
You know, back at home? Like, how how often do
you play? You know, do you practice? Do you have
a home club?
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (19:52):
Oh, okay, so we're looking at we're doing our club
country club shopping right now. You haven't decided, you know,
coming back here May with May of this year, so
everything is.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Already backed up for years.
Speaker 7 (20:08):
Doyle's Town, I know, I'm looking at proximity like location,
so Doyletown would be very close ideally, like I have.
I'm grateful for the open door policy that I have
over at look Away just because of that history with
me playing there as a high school student.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
But we're not a member right now.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
I do love me some manufacturers, and I hate how
much I love that course.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Have you guys ever been It's under It's very underrated.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
It is.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
I mean, the elevation changes there surprise me every time
it is. It's awesome.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
It's a great squat crazy.
Speaker 7 (20:41):
I was just there today. I played what's eighteen plus nine?
I played twenty seven holes. Yeah, that's what I did.
And I'll tell you from seventy yards in it's that
course has its own language. It's unbelievable. I can't tell
how many times where you get it on to the
middle of the course. You play to the middle and
those balls just roll right off the green. But you know,
(21:02):
I always say, if I can really master that course
in a way that's well suited for me, I feel
like I could do fairly were fairly well wherever.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Else I go.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
But it's a great course. So no, we're not a
member anywhere yet. I hope that changes by next year. Again,
like I just came back a little too late and everything.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Is just so overbooked for years. Oh my god, don't.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
Come down to South Florida. That was going to be
one of the other things I was going to say,
once you have ever run out of Philly courses, you
can come down here and start saying what the South
Florida courses say about you. But oh my god, yeah,
but let's keep it in Philly for now. We always
close out this show by asking our guests what is
your favorite Philadelphia course that you've ever played? And why?
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Why are you going to do this to me?
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Everybody?
Speaker 6 (21:54):
Every guest.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
Okay, wait, wait, wait, my favorite Philly golf course and why,
Oh my gosh, I'm so mad at you for this.
You know what I just got off of manufacturers. I'm
going to say manufacturers. I'm going to say manufacturers. Yeah,
it's challenging, you know, I hit if I hit a bitch.
(22:16):
I was like, oh, I fing love this course so much,
it doesn't matter, so oh manufacturers manufacturers, and I hope
the girls over at Philly CC know that I love
Philadelphia Country Club just as much.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
But Manufacturers will take the cake for that one.
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Oh yeah, I love it, love it. Well, listen, thank
you for coming on, Thank you for attending our outing.
I hope you had a good time at the That
was so fun. Yeah, that was That was a great day.
I took some notes. I think your dad's named Pasqually, right,
I think I squad Alright, I got I got got
the ice cream notes for my fore daughters. Somebody's somebody's
taking it that way because you got that needs to happen.
(22:52):
But continued success. We'll be watching following along. Hope to
do more stuff together in the future. And thanks for
joining Swing It andding It.
Speaker 7 (22:58):
Appreciate it, guys, Thank you so much, thank you, you
got it.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
All right, Let's take a quick break and we'll be
right back. All right, Welcome back to Swing It and
ding It. Great to talk to Francesca Russio, who was
out at the Swing It and ding It open benefiting
the Magical Male Foundation. She had a blast playing with
a couple of my actually my guys she got stuck with.
But yeah, and they and they played well. They were
(23:22):
in the top five. Yeah, so yeah, I mean, it's
it's funny because as soon as she walked in, like
the two guys from my club were like, are you
gonna review our club again? Like really, I can't imagine
what her dms look like. I'm not talking about like
just a creepyway. I'm talking about like I'm sure, Yeah, it's.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Probably like the yeah, you have to do that.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
Like I was going to bring that up with her,
and you probably have the most incoming traffic right now
of anyone.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Literally just suggesting yeah, and even offline. We asked her
and she said, some clubs will even say like you
should have roasted us more, you should have done this
or that. So it's gonna be so fun though coming
up with you know, I liked hearing about her process
and how she goes through and how she kind of
thinks about like the demographics and where they live and
everything else. So it's pretty cool how she approaches it
and kind.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Of you know, it's so smart too, because you know,
everyone members at clubs are very about their club, right,
and when you hear anything about your club, you lean in.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
So smart, especially in Philadelphia because it's a very parochial,
yes area, as opposed to other places in the country.
Speaker 5 (24:28):
So yeah, yeah, very cool. Well, Danielle spill some t
for us.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
Yeah, absolutely, So we were actually texting about this and
if he's listening, you still owe us a reply to
our DMS Michael Brennan. He's officially headed to the PGA Tour.
So six weeks after earning a three win promotion to
the Corn Fairy Tour, he then won on a sponsor
exemption at the Bank of Utah, which launches him straight
(24:57):
to the big show. He's now pg our membership The
Corn Fairy kind of posted a funny little post that was, like,
you know, his funnel. It lasted in the dates that
he was an actual Corn Fairy Tour member, which was
like like all of like six days or something like that.
But you know, I think I texted it to you guys,
you know, prime example, and you're hot. You're hot. This
guy's career and what he's been playing, Harry, you and
(25:18):
I were talking a little bit about is just he's
silly good, So a name to be keep your eye on,
just watch how he plays and upcoming seasons here.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
Yeah, no doubt about it played at Wake Forest.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
I mean, he's legit, and you talk about the heater
that he was on. He had three wins on with
the old Latino American Tour what do they call that
now the day Americans America America. Between August the tenth
and September the fourteenth, he won three times, which I've
met Battlefield, right, which got him moved up to corn
(25:50):
Fair and he's like, oh, you know what, I'm going
to get this invite to play in a tournament in.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Utah at this resort, I'll just go win it.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
And now big two years and he's hitting drives over
four hundred yards. I know it's an altitude, and you
know that golf course you know kind of caters to
that kind of thing, but still four hundred yards.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Plus four yards.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
And he's the eighth player since nineteen seventy to win
on the PGA Tour in one of the in three
starts or fewer. And his first two starts were as
an amateur, right, So I think there's only like one
guy like in the eighties that that did it.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Yeah, I think he played in the US Open as
an amateur and missed the cut or something, and one
other tournaments, maybe the Open Championship.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
I don't know, but yeah, that's incredible.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
Yeah, incredible for sure. So hopefully we can try to
get him onto the show. Would be an awesome guest
to just talk to me.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
He didn't respond to you, Well I should have.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
I should have DMed up for mine, but I went.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
And move and used to this stuff.
Speaker 6 (26:50):
I'll have to switch to.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
Yeah, you know some sixty year old guys in my
d MS past.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
Get these guys out of here.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
Well, Hair, I'm not sure if you've heard about this,
but I know that Moose has Luke Kwan. Is he
the most hated man right now? Overs left his nine
thirty AM T time instantly became golf's biggest villain of
the week. Golf fans were so heated. David Portnoy was
heated this news button Hall of Fame Even Monday, Q
(27:21):
took to ax to say, the Internet is mad at Lukwan.
People are finding every tweet I ever wrote about him
and replying and people are like, it's not that wild,
like the guys kind of a jerk, etcetera, etcetera. He's like,
but they're finding tweets from six years ago and responding
to it like the Internet is mad.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
I mean he was well. First of all, it was
a tough week in our world. But condolences to the
four Play guys. Cody B Frankie, head professional Barstool Sports
also passed away this week. Really yes, he did. The
big guy Cody who was who was? Who made incredible
videos before he joined and Barstool has a way of
(28:01):
just finding these guys that stand out, and they hired
him as part of for Play as their head golf professional.
And I don't know if I've ever seen a guy
more universally liked as just a nice guy, took his
hat off every time he shook everyone's hand anywhere. He
was just loved the game of golf. And you know,
huge loss for those guys. And it was tough because
the Internet Invitation was coming out that day, so they
(28:24):
pushed it back a day, but they kept him in
all the videos. His family wanted it that way, which
was really cool. So he took the first shot actually
in the Internet Invitation and it's an incredible video. It's compelling.
Everything about the entire video was awesome. But yeah, condolences
to those guys. But back to mister Kwan. I mean
(28:44):
I posted it. I said the fact that he overslept.
He thinks that's why people were mad at him. He
couldn't have been a bigger idiot or unlikable person the
night before with PFT just treating him like trash, Like
he just was completely.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
Chalon, like he didn't get any He's like, he's wish
I would have woke up, you know, like just and
then something I think, I don't I should have fact
checked it. But someone's like, he has trip, let's give
him a break, and I'm like, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
They were trying to just like because the team was
trying to like not lose.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Well, he said he was on Norway time. I actually
watched this stupid video. Yeah, and that makes no sense
because he would have been up earlier, like about seven
or eight hours earlier.
Speaker 6 (29:24):
Yeah, but just like the lack of you know, like
everybody's overslept and you know, but to a commitment in
something like that at his age.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
To his partner too, Like yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
I had no idea who this guy was until I
saw Moose comment on it on the Instagram.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
I'm like, who's this guy?
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Better investigate this because we might talk about so I
finally do some research on this guy.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
I think this was all staged.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
I think this guy might be a real jerk in
real life, but I think this kind of stuff is
all staged to bring more attention to it. This is
just the cynic the old man cynic me and how
the world works today with clicks and you know, outrage
and all. This kind of stuff was social media. I
think this was intentional, and I think it was brilliant
because no, he's no dummy. It got us talking about it,
(30:14):
which I had no idea who any of these people are,
Like Moose was just rattling off a couple of these
people's names. I thought he was speaking Mandarin. I have
no idea who these people are, but now I do.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Okay, so that's the way it works.
Speaker 6 (30:27):
I don't think you're wrong.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
And he's willing to wear the black hat. This guy,
he kind of he kind of revels.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
You could tell just by watching him in the videos
that he revels in kind of being the jerk.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
So I think this.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
It's sort of like a WWE scenario where you got
the you know, they got the heel, and you know
the bad guys they they make everybody pay attention.
Speaker 6 (30:48):
Yeah, for sure, not a bad take. Care Monday cue Monday.
I saw this. This article is for the true sickos.
A recap of all fourteen first stage sites, the medalists,
clutch rounds, notables that missed, and those that made it through.
So he said, if you've read all three thousand words
on first stage, seek help. And he's like, this is
(31:09):
coming from the guy who wrote it. But just looking
through the couple stages, you know, a couple of people advancing.
Curtis Thompson, obviously Lexi's brother. We've heard about that. He's
had some success. He's been on corn Ferry Tour, he's
been on the PGA Tour on and off. Some notable
missus Grant Hirshman. So anyone listening. We talk about Q
(31:30):
school all the time. There's you know, first stage, second stage,
final stage. It's like the world's hardest interview ever. And
these there's some big names already missing up first stage,
which means they're not advancing. They're not going to be
able to get their PGA Tour card or even fall
into a category to get additional status. So just to
(31:51):
look through that, if you guys take a look, we
can post it up on our on our Instagram page
and show some of the people who are advancing and
who's miss Ryan Ruffles also messed. Just pretty good, pretty
good group of people, but some surprising misses there. Yeah,
Saint Andrew's is getting a little tune up ahead of
the twenty twenty seven open, not a redesign, not just
(32:14):
a little restoration.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
And walkway they put in that one time crazy event.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
Literally, but the old course is staying sacred, but we
are going to see some changes, so stay tuned for
that over the next couple of years, and then we
can kind of group these last two into one. The
White House dirt is literally being dumped on a DC
golf course. East Potomac Park is getting truck loads of
dirt from a Trump White House renovation and nobody knows why,
(32:42):
but rumors are starting this world that he wants to
rebranded as Washington National Golf Course. And if you look
into it, there's an entire thing on, you know, all
these thoughts and what's happening, But somebody owns the rights
to it until like twenty twenty seven, so it can't
even be touched anyway. But they have people on coursing.
(33:03):
Derek just keeps showing up. We don't know exactly what's happening,
but supposedly they might be doing something to that golf course.
So yeah, East Potomac Park.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
East Potomac Park. Is that a public golf course?
Speaker 6 (33:18):
Yees?
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Public?
Speaker 6 (33:19):
Yeah, yeah, which is like he would have to buy it.
And then yeah, yeah, so you know.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
You heard about everything going on at Cobbs Creek and
he's like, I can't ye done.
Speaker 5 (33:28):
Here, yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:33):
And actually I clipped I did a video clip for
Brandon the other day because I'm sitting here and I
just threw the news on and then I just kind
of stopped and I looked up and I was like, wait,
a mint watching the news because I'm just hearing golf
and it's Trump just talking about Yeah, I played with
Bryson and you know, a couple other people we want again.
There was this many people in the field, like it's
just so funny to hear golf talked about all the time,
(33:55):
especially by the president.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Well yeah, and also his granddaughter is.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
Okay, okay, oh no, that's a.
Speaker 6 (34:04):
Last bit of tea. Kai Trump will make her LPGA
debut next month at the Anica. So the Internet's already
arguing privilege firsut ticket sales, et cetera, et cetera. And
like we always say, attention gets opportunities in modern golf. So,
I mean, we talked about Steph Curry, We talked about
all these things, and people just saying like your privilege
shouldn't take away a spot that's earned and everything else.
(34:25):
But it's like, hey, you guys will also try to
advocate for these guys to get bigger women, to get
bigger purses. And if we can have people like this,
I can attract viewership everything else. And again on Harry's
point earlier, we're talking about it, we're talking about the onica.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
They'll get attention, you know, as far as you know, deserving,
as far as a you know, golf standard, there's there's
there's no way. Yeah, but as far as attention, they
will get it.
Speaker 6 (34:51):
Yeah. And you know being in our world, yeah, I
do too. Being in our world though, you guys know
that that's important and and that's what gets it. So
that's the tea brought to you by where SPF. Just
because attempts are cooling off doesn't mean the sun stops
doing damage. Whether you're out on the course, watching football
or just running around town, you still need protection that works.
Where SPF by Justin Thomas is dermatologist tested sweat resistant
(35:15):

order today at war SPF dot com. That's where SPF
dot com And if you guys go to JT's latest post,
you can see him putting on SPF all over making
sure that he stays.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
You know, yes, yes, you're still wearing sunscreen at this
time of the year in Florida. Danielle, Oh, yeah, I
put it. When it came to New South Jersey there
was no sunscreen needed.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
Well, I put a little bit of it on my
face every day, but I know I needed a bean.
You guys see what I'm wearing now. This is because
my husband keeps her house at fifty two degrees and
what maybe fifty two, But when we go to bed,
it's like drops so low, and I'm like, what, it's
good for recovery, but I'm the optimal temper.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
I'm just sleeping in an ice bath.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
Literally. He loves it, and I'm like sixty six.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
It's like the.
Speaker 6 (36:11):
Old because I have some blankets and stuff, but like
just sitting here, like I should be able to not
wear a jackets.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
You're at sixty six moose in the house.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
Oh yeah, sometimes you have with the kids. I got
to get it up to sixty seven.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
I fight my wife whenever she wants to take it
below seventy.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
Oh really yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (36:29):
See, I'm I'm you hair, Like Brandon Will.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Penguin just walked by.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
He sees me.
Speaker 6 (36:34):
He's like, yeah, seriously, that's me. We have an igloo
right over there. You don't see it, but I'll go
over the thermist out and he's like, are you touching that?
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Like no, yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
The good thing is my wife doesn't now a thermist
at work, so we're good there. Yeah, confused hair. Well,
we talked about Michael Brannon. I don't know if there's
anything else to talk about with the back of Utah Championship.
Maybe a little bit about Max Home and some the
other guys. But yeah, well but how about the way
he comes out? Like what it was impressive with me
(37:04):
with Michael Brannan was comes out on Sunday and it's
five at the first out a first night, Holsey has
five birdies. Yeah, so he's just like, I'm winning this.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
He can go low, that kid, and he's not afraid
to go low.
Speaker 5 (37:17):
One million dollars in a two year exemption. Tremendous stuff
out of here, so good.
Speaker 6 (37:23):
Not worried about anything for.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
A little clu. How about the scenery at that place?
Speaker 6 (37:28):
It is really literally Jason went out there to prep
some of his team ahead of the week, and he
was just sending me some stuff and.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
How did you get that email?
Speaker 1 (37:35):
But all I did the all access trip.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
That sounded pretty.
Speaker 5 (37:38):
Good, pretty good for rounds of golf, and I think.
Speaker 6 (37:41):
I got that to send it Where I got my dog?
Speaker 5 (37:47):
That looked pretty cool.
Speaker 6 (37:49):
Yeah, yep, I flew him out. I flew out there
to get my dog. But yeah, that that place looked awesome.
And the moves you mentioned Max Homer, I saw it
made me giggle a little bit. I didn't add it
to the tea, but he kind of said, like, you know,
disappointment of a year and not how I wanted it
to go. Blah, just acknowledging kind of his performance this
year and said it was great to close out his
season in Utah whatever, And he said, I'm going to
(38:10):
make next season my female dog. It's what he was.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
I got it.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
He's got to get rid of those bone spurs though. Man,
he was struggling. Who's fighting that? Any other standouts from
you have from that?
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Now? The three guys that I picked all missed the cut.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
How about that?
Speaker 5 (38:25):
To see it?
Speaker 4 (38:25):
Yeah, not good to see it? Not good.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
But I'll be watching, uh, you know, the DP World
Tour in the next two weeks. They've got their two
big events over in in the Middle East, the Race
to Dubai. They're in Abu Dhabi and then Dubai the
final couple of tournaments, so they'll have some pretty good
players in that hard.
Speaker 6 (38:43):
Did that women's team event? Was that last week? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (38:45):
That was?
Speaker 1 (38:46):
That was this past week. I believe Australia won it.
I didn't really watch a whole heck of a lot
of it because of the time change and everything, but
it was Australia.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
Want it?
Speaker 6 (38:56):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (38:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (38:57):
Yeah, Well, let's close the show talking about our friend
Harry Donnau. We found out today tragically passed away, great
friend of ours, great friend of the show, one of
the first people to reach out to us when we
started swinging and ding it to give us a little publicity.
I've been on inside Golf a couple of times, Harry,
(39:17):
You've been on, you've hosted, You've done a ton A
titan in the Philly golf world. Was Harry down to you?
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (39:26):
He really was man, and you know, just a titan
in broadcasting.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Really.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
I mean you think about, you know, all those years
at KYW from nineteen seventy nine and twenty fourteen, you know,
if you were listening to morning radio and you know,
in traffic on the twos and all that, that's not
what he did. But he was a fixture on that
morning broadcast for all those years. He did the Philadelphia
Stars if you remember back in the USFL, I think
(39:51):
they lasted maybe three seasons. A lot of great players
came out of that league, and Harry was the play
by play guy for the Philadelphia Stars who won the
championship I think two of the three years that league
was in existence. And then he goes to Temple Athletics
in nineteen eighty four and you know, does football and
basketball and various TV stuff with football and basketball with Temple,
(40:15):
and he was evidently he was eventually put into the
Ring of Honor in twenty twenty at Temple. I was
there for that ceremony. It was terrific and I had
no idea, but he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports
Hall of Fame way back in the in two thousand,
so that that was.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
Something that I learned today.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
And then you know, we all remember him obviously from
Inside Golf. He was you know, he was the man
on Inside God. It was his show to me when
you thought Inside gob was that's Harry Donahue's show. And
you know, way back when, I don't know how many
years ago it was. You know, he knew that I
loved golf, and you know, we started doing the Temple
(40:53):
Games together and he said, hey, why don't you why
don't you come over. I'm going to invite you to
do the panel show you our teed off segment for
Inside Golf.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
And I said, yeah, sure, I love it.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
You know, like like Moose said, you know, we started
this podcast because you know, I could never talk about
this on the radio, but I love talking about it.
And he knew that and recognize that and invited me
over to Lulu and started doing it and having a ball.
And you know, I met so many great people through
that show that have some have been on this show
and just the connections.
Speaker 4 (41:24):
Harry was a connector.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
You know, he knew people in all walks of life,
whether it was through golf, through you know, uh, you know,
his sports contacts, you know, prior to golf that had
nothing to do with GoF But he knew everybody, and
he was a connector, and he loved putting people together,
and he loved telling stories, and he had stories. I've
(41:46):
heard some of these stories five and six times, and
I know you move too. There are certain ones that
he favored where you'd tell you this and he would
act like it was the first time he was telling
you this, but you were like, you knew, you knew
the end of it, but you just let him go
because he loved telling the story. So, you know, that
was part of the stuff I loved about him. But
he was a legend in broadcasting and a legend in
(42:08):
you know, really the.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Game of golf. In this area. He did a lot
for people, help.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Raise money, you know, for charities, and he's going.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
To be greatly missed, no doubt. I learned a lot
from him.
Speaker 5 (42:20):
Yeah, absolutely beautiful tribute, Harry. Beautiful words for a person
that absolutely deserves it. Did a lot for us in
this show for sure, and you know, definitely connected in
a lot of ways.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
So yeah, we'll make sure.
Speaker 5 (42:33):
We share everything that honors Harry and make sure that
everyone knows everything that's going on.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
Yeah, and thoughts to his lovely wife Linda and his
sons Brian, Tim and Adam.
Speaker 5 (42:45):
Yes, absolutely all right, Well, thank you for listening, Thank
you Francesca for joining, And as Harry would say, remember,
no matter how bad it's going for you out there,
honor off the course, don't pick up.
