Speaker 1 (00:00):
I just admitted it to John Alden, so I'll admit
it to you guys as well. We don't keep secrets
around here. I love this song. Cary'll explain it.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Why.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I just love this song. I mean because it's good.
How old were you when this came out? Oh?
Speaker 1 (00:12):
I don't even know. I just know when I heard
it for the first time. I'm sure it wasn't new.
When did it come out?
Speaker 4 (00:19):
I think this was in the nineties, before my time,
of course, Yeah, I think it was early nineties.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
I could be wrong.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I'm going to guess eighties, but I could be wrong. Yeah,
eighty it was born. I was born in eighty eight.
It was released in nineteen eighty eight, so it's as
old as me. So I don't remember it at all,
at least when it was new. But yeah, good stuff
from Paula Abduel. Shout out to Paula Abduel. On a
Friday morning, it is News Radio eight forty whas coffee
and company with you, and we are fueled by Thornton's
and we are continuing to keep you covered as far
(00:46):
as the covered snow that is on the way to us,
because the winter storm will be here tomorrow, and I
think you're starting to see a little more consistency as
far as what is being projected out there when it
comes to the totals, but there's always that element of
not really knowing exactly what's going to happen. And if
in fact it ends up being nowhere near as severe
(01:06):
as it looks, that's a good thing. It of course
would just lead to a lot of folks finger pointing
and you know, mocking the industry that is meteorology. Now,
with that said, because of just how consistent the coverage
has been and I don't mean necessarily the amount of
snow we're going to get, but I'm not really seeing
(01:28):
anybody on any side from just spectator, you know, average
average human and of course those that work in this
world of meteorology that is acting like this should be
downplayed and then it's not really going to be that
serious at all. So I'm sure if I looked hard enough,
I could find somebody that was doing that. But yeah,
it sounds as if a foot of snow is the
(01:49):
high end, but six inches to a foot that's what's
being being reported by most when it comes to this. Louisville,
the Kentucky Aana region. Obviously you could get a little
more sleet and freezing rain, which is gross, but that
could be more south of US. And then, of course
the heavier snow expected to be north of the Louisville area.
(02:09):
We'll let you hear Matt Melosavich's latest latest update that
he had on the WKY newscast that started just here
at six o'clock in just one second, but I do
want to reiterate that this is the type of snowstorm
that you really need to be prepared for, not just
when it comes to things that you simply know you
(02:30):
have to have, like medications, but food. I mean, I
know it's probably a mess at a Walmart, Kroger Meyer
or wherever right now, but you don't want to be without.
And I'm sure there are plenty that just procrastinate or
maybe I mean, at this point, if you haven't at
least gone out to try to load up on some
(02:50):
supplies when it comes to food, drink, that kind of stuff,
I guess, I mean, is it safe to say that
you have procrastinated? I mean, it's not going to be
here till tomorrow, but I have seen the pictures that
everybody has shared of our local grocery stores that look
empty with supplies but full of people scrambling. Have you gone,
I'm assuming you've not been out yet.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
I went after work yesterday.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
I went to the all day off outer Loop where
I've been going regularly, and normally I can get in
and out of there in about twenty minutes for a
regular grocery trip. I was there for maybe forty five minutes,
and fifteen of those minutes were standing in line to
check out.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
My wife went to Meyer yesterday and she said that
it was crowded, more so than you would typically see
during lunchtime on a Thursday. But it wasn't crazy. But
she did mention that they were low and maybe out
of certain things that obviously everybody scrambling to try to
make sure they have when this snowstorm gets here. So
be prepared, everybody, I know. For me, When I headed
(03:47):
out this morning, I opened the fridge to get my
drink and I noticed only two bush lights left. Yeah,
that's a problem. We're gonna have to fix that. I
would imagine the liquor store.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
I bet a lot of liquor stores are running not low,
because I know a lot of others have of I bet.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
They're just doing good business right now. Yes, that's a
good way to put it.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
They're probably not expecting as many guests as they would
get on your typical Saturday, so people are probably loading
up right now, and I'll be one of those people.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
All right.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
This is the latest from Matt Melosovich as he just
gave us an update on wk wi's live newscast, and
here is what he is tracking at this moment as
we get set for tomorrow's snowstorm.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Because this is a significant winter weather maker that's coming
our way. Now, we are dry, we are cold through
this Friday highs arm and budget out of the twenties.
It's gonna feel like the teens, even single digits at times.
But as we get into tomorrow, especially late morning and midday,
that's when the snow starts building in.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
It'll be cold.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Enough that will quickly start to get accumulations. Later into
our Saturday afternoon and evening, we watch ice, sleet, and
freezing rains start to lift north in that pink zone.
It'll get very close to the metro. I think even
in town now we could change over a little bit
to that sleet.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Or freezing rain.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Kind of in between the layers of snowfall that we'll
have across the area, could see a quarter to maybe
half inch of ice south of the parkways, So that
starts to bring in some power concerns downstate, So plan accordingly,
especially if you live south of Elizabethtown and Bardstown on
the back edge of this system. We likely end it
(05:27):
as another round of snow before it all moves on
out Monday morning into early next week.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
So again, Monday morning is when it sounds as if
it's gonna it's gonna calm down, it's gonna slow down
and come to an end as far as what just
you know, essentially what had just happened since Saturday. But
by Wednesday there could be some more activity. As Matt
Melissovitch calls it, we'll let you hear what he says
about that coming up in just a few minutes. I
don't know if it's any It doesn't seem to be
(05:55):
anything that will be close to the level of what
we're gonna get tomorrow as it arrives. But still, when
you've got maybe a foot of snow on the ground,
no temperatures above freezing, even a little dusting could be
you know, making things even worse. All right, stick around
trafficking weather updates. That's coming your way again. Matt will
give us the update on today's forecast. But I can
(06:16):
tell you right now, as of six', eleven we've got
twenty eight degrees feels like twenty one with that windshield
and clear skies again all right here at News radio
eight forty, WHAS i will tell. YOU i was happy
to see that TikTok survived here In, america but that
whole story's not really over just. Yet the next chapter
is whether this joint venture actually delivers what folks HAVE
(06:41):
i guess gotten used to over the years with the TikTok.
PLATFORM i will, SAY i woke up this, morning and
one of the THINGS i do Is i'm waking, up
coming back to. Life at about three thirty each, MORNING
i get out my phone check various, apps Including, TikTok
which is always the last one because there's really not
any need to do.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
That it's just by.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Habit BUT i got prompted as soon AS i opened
the app with a update that says. Update this is
a prompt that is notifying me they've made updates to
their terms of service and privacy, policy and of course
this is tied to WHAT i guess officially took place
in the last twenty four. Hours we are updating our
terms of service and privacy policy Effective january twenty, second
(07:25):
to reflect changes including updated corporate, entity new types of
location information including device. Geolocation we may collect from you
with your, permission how we use your information we have
collected or we'll collect to show you ads outside Of
TikTok to opt out of these, ads and then you
can click tab.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Here so by.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Clicking, below you agree to the updates to our terms
of service and confirm your privacy. Settings you can't do
anything within the app without hitting. Agree so this as
far as just the message they're now letting you know
that they are they are now going to target you
differently with the different data that they collect from.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
You so.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
The long term trust issue that was there which nobody really,
disputed that was one thing that stood out about The
TikTok battle as far as folks who wanted to keep
it alive In, america there was nobody on either side
of the aisle politically that would tell you that it
wasn't a concern given what information and access this app
had to all of, us AND i think that that's
(08:29):
not a, coincidence given that there's no platform That i've
ever been on that targets you better than. TikTok it's
like they've got a chip planet in your brain or.
Something it'll it'll show me. Something the algorithm on TikTok
will will tell me WHAT i want without me even
knowing it as far as what to. See And i'll
(08:49):
be honest with, YOU i kind of liked. That that's
what made, It that's what made it. Awesome now it
also probably led to me wasting a lot of time
and really just being manipulated by them just knowing how
to target me and keep me engaging on their platform
for longer THAN i really need. To BUT i think
if this is truly what it claims to, BE i
(09:11):
don't see how it wouldn't be a genuine change in
what you see when you scroll every. Day, now maybe
it's got maybe you're already baked in because you've been
using TikTok for a long time. Now that could be the,
case BUT i am curious to see what differences folks
are noticing now that it's actually. Happened in, fact we'll
(09:34):
reset that coming up a little bit later, on because
there are some things right out of the gate they're
going to tell you that you will notice that are.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Different so we'll get to that and a lot more stick.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Around we've got an update of tragick and weather coming
your way here in just a. Moment, also we've got
a sports update coming your way From Scott. FITZGERALD a
lot of games tomorrow are going to be moved up
because of the. Snowstorm that's probably not a. Surprise, well
we'll give you the latest details there as we rolled along,
here It's News radio eight forty.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Whas good, Morning. Kentuckyana you made. It It's.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Friday we are getting closer and closer to the, weekend
and this weekend is going to be, impacted to say the,
least when it comes to this winter. Storm And i've
mentioned this a few times this. Morning rare to have
such coverage and attention on a winter storm that could
drop a foot of snow on us here in the,
region and you not really see much of anybody out
(10:27):
there denying it and doubting, it calling it a. Hoax
And i'm sure some people do that just to poke
fun at meteorologists who of course have a difficult job
and at times you know they get it. Wrong it's
kind of what comes with, it, Right SO i can't
see a scenario where this is. Nothing but as far
as just how severe it, is only time will. Tell
but we are now looking at the region, Here, Louisville.
(10:50):
Kentuckyana the metro i'd say about six inches to a
foot is what most are mentioning when it comes to the.
Range so we'll let you hear the latest Fro Matt
melosovich coming up in just a second. Here BUT i
do want remind you this is the type of storm
that you need to make sure you've got everything you
need if in, fact you were to be stuck in
your house for a couple of, days maybe you, know
(11:12):
maybe longer than a couple of, Days so just make
sure you are. Prepared, obviously you want to make sure
you've got, medications you might need things like, that but,
food plenty of, water milk if you can find, it, obviously, milk.
Bread that stuff's been flying off the shelves probably all
Week so and if you want to do something this,
(11:35):
weekend you need to get out and about and probably
you probably should, right if you're going to be in
your house till Maybe, Monday monday, AFTERNOON i would get
SOME u time and just not you, know just Enjoy
friday as the day to not be stuck in your,
house because you might be stuck in your house and
nobody wants to do.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
That so this took me back to the.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Pandemic whenever we were in, isolation in, quarantine especially the
early stages of, it and you ended up, realizing, YEAH
i love my, wife love my, kids but, MAN i
didn't realize how MUCH i also love having me time
to you, know have some. Sanity so, again we're not
going to be locked in for anything like what happened
(12:17):
many years. Ago but just know that today's your day
to get out and do, something because getting out and
doing something, Tomorrow, sunday maybe Even monday could be could be.
Problematic and to be honest with, you if the temperatures
are what they're, expecting this is going to be around
for a while. Now hopefully we've got the resources in
place here In louisville to get the main interstates and
(12:38):
the main roadways in good enough shape for people to get,
out but neighborhood, streets rural. AREAS i, mean if we're
talking six inches at, minimum and it probably will be,
more and you've got temperatures that are not going to
be really close to, freezing that's where it becomes. Problematic
and then if you mix in ice things like, that
that's where it gets scary when it comes to power
(13:00):
outages and. Whatnot so, again this is not something to take.
Lightly make sure you are, prepared and let's just hope
that we ride it out and come out on the
other side knowing, that you, know we did the best we.
Could it certainly seems as if the resources In. Louisville
we'll let you hear more from The Louisville department Of transportation.
Leadership as they've they've they've they've they've laid out their
(13:20):
plan as far as when they're going to start, salting
that'll be tomorrow. Morning but also they learned a lot
from last year's, snowstorm it sounds like as far as
just being better, prepared and they also have outside help
that is going to be. Utilized they've got contractors that
will be handling some of some of some of those side,
streets some of those secondary. Routes so let's hope that,
(13:41):
again we get out of this as best you. Came
this is the latest update For Matt melosovich within the
hour here as far as what is what he's expecting
as we get started, tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Because this is a significant winter weather maker that's coming our. Way,
now we are, dry we are cold through This friday
highs art and budget now of the. Twenties it's gonna
feel like the teams even single did at. Times but
as we get into, tomorrow especially late morning and, midday
that's when the snow starts building. In it'll be cold
enough that will quickly start to get. Accumulations later into
(14:13):
Our saturday afternoon and, evening we watch, ice sleet and
freezing rains start to lift north in that pink. Zone
it'll get very close to the. METRO i think even
in town now we could change over a little bit
to that sleet or freezing rain kind of in between
the layers of snowfall that we'll have across the. Area
(14:35):
could see a quarter to maybe half inch of ice
south of the. Parkways so that starts to bring in
some power concerns, Downstate so plan, accordingly especially if you
live south Of elizabethtown And bardstown on the back edge
of this. System we likely end it as another round
of snow before it all moves on Out monday morning
(14:57):
into early next.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Week so, Again Matt Melosa bitch expected to be with
us coming up around seven. Thirty we'll see at that
point if there's any updates as far as what he is.
Expecting all, right you can expect an update on traffic right,
here right, Now Bobby ellis would tell us how the
roadways are looking as we get This friday morning. Started
don't go, anywhere keep it lock with us at News
radio eight forty. Whas it is six forty six here
(15:21):
at News radio eight FORTY. Whas Happy friday to. You
thank you for hanging out with. Us do wan to
remind you can take us with you wherever you. Go
listen live on The iHeart radio. App also listen live
at whas dot. Com so if you're wanting to stay
tuned to the latest on this winter storm that's on its,
way and of course you're not in your vehicle all
throughout the day in the, morning WHICH i assume you're,
(15:42):
not just know on your smartphone on your device The
iHeart radio. App it's also available on your SMART tv,
rokus that kind of. Stuff so we'll continue to keep you.
Covered that's kind of what we do around, here, Right
we've been a resource for you here at News radio
eight forty whas for generations when it comes to these
types of, situations serious, weather and that is what we've
(16:02):
got on the way here. Now something THAT i would
HOPE i don't need to remind, you but why not
remind you? Anyways make sure you take care of your
pets and have arrangements for your pets when it comes
to this kind of. Weather and, obviously if you've got
a dog and a, cat probably a pretty simple, situation
right to bring them in the, house even if they
may be outdoor cats or, dogs you're going to at
(16:25):
LEAST i would hope you'd find a way to get them,
indoors even if it's just in your. Garage but there's
other types of pets that people have that Wouldn't it
wouldn't be as. Easy, right if you've got a, horse
you're not bringing it in the, house, RIGHT i mean
maybe you.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Would that'd be kind of, wild but you get my.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Point so today's the day where you should probably find
some arrangements if, possible because you don't want to leave
animals out in this kind of weather could be could
be deadly for them because not just the amount of
snow and potential freezing, rain, sleet that kind of, stuff
but just the. Temperature so if you've not already made,
arrangements would start working on that, now And I'd i'd
(17:02):
be shocked if there's not resources available for you in
these kind of. Situations so, again keep that in. Mind
and when it comes to your, dog, cat, pet whatever
kind of pets you, have just Know Jefferson Animal hospital
they're there for, you and they really mean. That, literally
they're there for you anytime twenty four to seven three sixty.
Five that's when they are, there open twenty four hours a,
day and they've been doing that providing around the clock
(17:25):
coverage for you in case of an emergency for your
pet for over forty five. Years that is at their
emergency center on the Outer. Loop they've also got a
location In Fern creek On Barchtown. Road but even if
it's not an, emergency they've got the again the outpatient
set up. There and if you've yet to have let's
say you got yourself a new new dog or cat
(17:45):
here recently maybe maybe For christmas something like, that and
you've yet to get them in with a vet to
start that process of having a consistent provider when it
comes to check ups those kind of. Things there's no
better place to turn than my friends At Jefferson Animal. Hospital,
again you don't stay open for forty five plus years
unless you're taking care of customers and really just providing
a service that is needed in this, community a service
(18:08):
that you won't find anywhere. Else quite, literally they're the
only ven vetnir clinic in the area that is open
twenty four hours a, Day so, again cannot recommend him.
Enough you can get more information At Jefferson vets dot
com or give them a call at five two nine hundred.
Pets all, right let's set the table for the next
the next thirty minutes or, so we've got an update
(18:29):
on the. Roadways Bobby ellis woul tell us how traffic's.
Looking we'll get a look at today's, forecast and we've
got a sports update coming your way from Mister Scott.
Fitzgerald and, last but not, least we'll get the seven
o'clock hour started With Dwight mitchell FROM lmpd joining us
here in. Studio, obviously it's all hands on deck when
it comes to services here In. Louisville when we're talking law,
enforcement fire, Ems i'm sure they're going to have a
(18:52):
heightened awareness of their importance over the. Weekend so looking
forward to chatting with Mister mitchell coming up in just
a few. Minutes all that's right here At News radio
eight fordy W H A.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
S
