Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Friday, Kentuckyana. We made it to the end of
the week. As the weekend is UH is upon us.
We're getting closer, which means we're getting closer to a
winter storm. They could put a foot or more of
snow on the ground. It really is dependent upon where
you are, but also dependent upon just how severe this
(00:20):
storm is. And what has been one of the more
talked about components in this winter storm is where the
ice sleets ends up shifting towards And it does sound
like as of right now, it's expected to be just
south of Louisville, just south really of our of our
of our audience, right. I know you can pick up
(00:40):
the station, uh basically on Mars, but if you're you know,
south of Bargetown, south of Campbellsville, that's where you could
probably see more of that that sleet, which of course
is gross and even more dangerous when you consider that
that's that's gonna freeze and give you ice, which could
be a disaster on the roadways also for power. So UH,
(01:01):
we're getting closer, and UH just a reminder, make sure
you do what you need to do to make sure
that you've got everything to handle potentially being stuck in
your house for a couple of days. You know, I
would expect that if we even if we do get
let's say, roughly a foot of snow or even in
that in that range, I'd like to think that the
city has resources to where once it does come to
(01:24):
an end, although it's going to last up until maybe
Monday morning, uh, we'll have roadways as far as the
interstates and the major roads treated and cleared, but all
the secondary roads, neighborhood streets, I mean those that's where
it gets to be real dicey, to where you may
not be able to leave if you need to, which
one can be very dangerous. But also that just means
(01:44):
medications are one thing, right, but food things that you know,
you know you can't go without, and you rarely even
think about going without because in most instances you'd be
able to go to the store. Well, when you've got
a foot of snow on the ground and maybe a
bunch of ice with it, that's when it gets, uh,
it gets it gets pretty scary. So again, make sure
you are best prepared to handle the potential isolation in
(02:07):
your home for uh, for maybe a couple of days,
maybe longer. We really don't know, also utilized today, Right,
if you had something you want to do for the weekend,
you want to get out and about today's your day
to do it, because you're not gonna have many chances. Uh,
it seems like over these next two days after today.
So uh tonight, I'm glad that Mother Nature she seems
(02:28):
to be cooperating because I've got dad daughter dance at
oh yeah, yeah, Freedom Elementary, So looking forward to that
and nice to know that the snow is gonna is
gonna wait until that that concludes. But yeah, anything that
that is scheduled for tomorrow as far as U Sports,
as you likely know, JCPS has called off everything. So
tonight everything's still in play. But tomorrow, Uh, if it
(02:50):
hasn't been postponed, it's likely been adjusted. We've talked about
the U of L and UK games both being moved up.
I'd say, especially on the Louisville side, that change a
whole lot, But it probably does get the opponent out
of town Virginia Tech a little bit sooner before it
gets really bad. So that's what you get when you
have a snowstorm that could impact thirty three states. I mean,
(03:11):
that's how far and widespread. This is so we don't
often get storms like this that really command this much
attention and coverage, but that is certainly where we are
right now.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Also, if you know you're gonna need to get out
at some point this weekend or Monday morning, and you
don't really have much of a choice, shovel your driveway
as it's happening. Don't wait until all twelve inches or
have fallen on the ground, because that's going to be
a lot more difficult, maybe even impossible to move.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Like you're talking to me, I might be talking to you.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I might be talking to you, but.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
You're right, and I just I have this awful hill
that is a driveway. I just I feel for you.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I feel like all the work I could put in
all for it to just like cause again, Monday, when
we had something Monday or Tuesday, whenever it was, it
was very mild, and by the time we left it
was a buff freezing nearly degrees. But yet I still
couldn't get up my driveway. And I'm just thinking I
might as well just leave my car at work during
the snowstorm. I might as well just get an uber
home and rely on my wife to drive me around.
(04:11):
Not manly of me to say, but she's the one
with four wheel drive. I'm not, And obviously that comes
in handy during situations like this. So John, if you
were stuck inside for let's say we go home today
and you have a night and then tomorrow morning you
wake up and realize, oh, I'm not going anywhere until
Monday evening and we don't even get to come to
(04:32):
work Monday. Yeah, we have to do it from home.
Whatever it may be, what would you make sure you
have other than the obvious right electricity? You know, obviously
you want to have food to eat, but like is
there's something you would want to make sure you've got
it because you'd need it during this quarantine.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
So the number one thing for me is coffee. I'm
not much of a beer drinker. I do like it
one from time to time. That or a Seltz or
whatever it might be. But for me, it's coffee. That's
my pacifier. That's what keeps me going good. I mean
I have even on a regular day, I have three
or four cups of coffee throughout the day. I don't
know if that's on the high end for me, it
feels like it's on the high end. But that's something
(05:10):
that throughout tomorrow, Sunday and probably really into much of
next week, I'm gonna be fueled by a ton of coffee.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yeah, I other than the obvious things like you know,
internet connection, electricity, food, those are obvious, but I would
I would try to find and maybe I do this today.
I just try to make sure I've got endless things
to keep my kids entertained. Oh yeah, and not bored
to where they're.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
You know, just not NonStop. What are we gonna do it?
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Because and I we'll go play in the snow with them,
because that'll actually be fun. But like, we're not gonna
do that all day. But my kids, they are not
homebodies at all. They like to get out and about
and do stuff, and they're gonna have to just understand
that that ain't happening this weekend because of the snowstorm
that's on its way. So again, whatever it is that
you just answered aloud, what do you really want to
make sure that you you have if you're stuck inside,
(06:03):
make sure you have it, because I think a lot
of us are going to be stuck inside. All right,
we'll let you hear the latest from Matt Melosavich. He
did join us earlier in the show for a quick
Q and A to discuss this this storm that's heading
our way. We'll get the latest as far as what
he's expecting for the weekend. Also, Rory O'Neil gonna join
us around eight thirty five.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Stick around.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
It's News Radio eight forty whas. So I'm just now
learning this winter storm has a name. Did you know this?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I didn't know this one did, but I've heard of
other ones getting names winter storm, Fern, Fern, it should
be Fernando. Do you know if oh, here we go?
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Maybe that's why wouldn't shock me with the momentum Fernando
has right now after winning a national championship.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
But do you know anybody named Fern?
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I had a friend named Fernando in college, but not Ferkay.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yeah, I don't know a Fern. I think of Fern's
like a tree, right, Fern Valley, Fern Valley Road, Sue,
Fern Creek High School, Fern.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Though that's a name you can trust, I think. I
don't know if that means to fer. I don't know
if that means that this uh, this storm is is
is going to be what they're claiming it's going to be.
I certainly hope not. It'd be nice if this ended
up being rather mild, but it doesn't. Doesn't look like
it's going to be. I mean, again, as I've emphasized
throughout the week, and I don't present this as if
I'm one doing any kind of homework or any kind
(07:19):
of knowledge when it comes to meteorology. But even if
we got on the low end of what everybody is projecting,
that's still winter weather that around here can certainly cause
some issues. So uh, let's uh, let's just wait and see.
I mean, that's all you can do. And of course
you can count on us when it comes to keeping
you updated as best we can when the storm hits.
Stay connected with us here at news Radio eight forty whas.
(07:41):
Trust trusted storm coverage when it matters most so, again,
whatever it is you're doing, wherever you're going, just know
you can take us with you, obviously in your in
your car and on your radio at news Radio eight
forty whas, but also at WHS dot comment on the
iHeartRadio app. All right, real quick, let's get an update
for Matt Melosavid on what we're looking at the rest
(08:03):
of the day here because obviously today you're gonna be
cold and no real threat of any snow just yet.
But I guess maybe one way to look at it
is enjoy the time we have before it all gets here,
because it's on its way, all right. We'll get an
update on the roadways as well. We'll see how traffic's
looking this morning. Bobby Ellis has an update for US,
(08:23):
a news update as well from John Shannon and Rory O'Neil.
He's gonna stop by, stick around. It's news Radio eight
forty whas. Final segment here for us at News Radio
eight forty whas. I say us, I mean Coffee and Company,
because you've got Tony and Dwight coming your way in
just a few short minutes, and Tony's with us here
(08:44):
in studio.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Now. Did you venture out yesterday any any stops?
Speaker 4 (08:48):
There was the grocery store spectacular, Okay. I went to
Lots of Pasta. I got two of their meat sauces,
two of their pastas in four soups, and then I said,
you know what, I got to go get eggs and stuff.
So choice was there's a it's kind of hidden back
there in Saint Matthew's. But there's a Walmart grocery store
in Saint Matthew's is over by the old old Seers building.
(09:10):
So I went, I'm going there. I had no I
wasn't prepared. The parking lot was like road Warrior. I
got in there and it was complete chaos. It was
like where it was funny chaos where you're just like,
I can't believe I'm seeing this, Like there was two
things of eggs left out of the entire row of eggs.
(09:30):
At Walmart, I saw a lady that we know that's
with on Jackie's Saint Matthews City Council. She's in a wheelchair.
She uses her feet to kind of power herself. So
she had a box with her and all she had
in the box was giant bags of Cheetos. I was like, Mary, Joe,
what's whatever gets you through the winter store? Just giant
(09:55):
bags and Cheetos? Well, And I was like, okay.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I asked people earlier, just say of that one thing
that you really know that it would be unfortunate if
you didn't have it while you're stuck inside for a
few days.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Maybe for her it was it was Cheetos.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Well, and I think thinking I had I bought a
hundred bottles of water, and I was thinking, why was
I panicking about water? I have a faucet.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah, and the water out of the fawcet in Louisvilles.
It's not gonna pretty, it's.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Good and it's not gonna It's not gonna kill me
if I drink it for a week. Uh So, yeah,
you panic a little bit of We all panic because
we like our little panic.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
I saw just I saw just two bush lights left
in the fridge this morning. I know I've got to
I'm set up for that. That is my panic this morning.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
I put that on Facebook because I have never gotten
everything I'm supposed to get at the grocery. I'm o
for four thousand trips, like I always come all alone.
Am I is that a man thing? Well? Every time
I come back and Jackie goes, did you get the
cream cheese or the da da da? And I go, no,
d it I didn't. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
There's always it's either something that you just knew you
needed and it slipped your mind, or you think, why
didn't I remember that.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
I should age right, especially if she says it twice
before you leave the house.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
You are the master of content, mister Venetti. Yeah, and
I got an idea. I want to run by you.
I also don't want to get like shot or arrested.
I'm thinking bringing back vibe check today and going.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
To the grocery store.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
I think that's an absolute fantastic idea, and I think
it will be gold because yesterday I was just laughing
out loud at what was going on. It was fantastic, actually,
But my thing was I'm glad I was there. It
was about two o'clock in the afternoon. I don't are
they gonna get trucks today with food in it? Like
if they don't, there's a lot of aisles that are empty.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Well, I would imagine that would be the scenario. But
what makes this snowstorm different is that this isn't just
one region. This thirty three states are gonna get hit
right with whether that a lot of them never get
so we may get close to a foot, but in
the you know, let's say south of US, I mean
even into two places like Texas. You know, a dusting
(12:00):
of snow can can have them losing their minds.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Oh, there's no question. And did you see Minnesota? Was
was it minus sixty.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Yikes.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Yes, I have a friend who's actually in Minnesota for work.
And the wind chill was minus twenty something yesterday.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
So it's warmer in Antarctica than Minnesota. And that's coming
our way, not minus sixty. No, I swear to god
I read minus sixty.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
That doesn't mean we're getting that though.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
No.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
But the storm, yeah, the winter weathers and the cold
weather not that cold. But yes, that's what I don't
pop off.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
John william Al in the Thirty's call the shots now.
Oh you should see him, he called, he's producing the show.
I mean the show now, Champion. Hey we're going to break,
are we?
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:43):
I like that John, So, but I'll ask people before
I talked to them, because again, I don't want to
get the tensions are high right now, the stress is
there they I don't want to get punched by anybody.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
No, it's it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
It's graze.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
We'll see if we can make it work. All right,
Tony and Dwight are coming your way next right here
in news radio eight forty w h A s
