Speaker 1 (00:00):
When the on air Mike goes off, the talk Talk begins.
It's Talk Talk with Martha Quinn.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I could see it in your eyes. I could see
it in your eyes, Kream of Alaskas, something was coming.
That's how I just kept my mouth shut because I
could see it.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Someone's bubbling up.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
That sounds like it's the beginning of a Halloween podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Actually, that's actually kind of sound a little bit like
a ghost.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
No, it's not a ghost. Welcome, it's not a ghost.
It's Talk Talk with Martha Quinn, the podcast that unites
the Morning Drive with Christy Live team Queen of Alaska's
who we already heard from and Christy.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Hey, how's everyone doing? Thanks for coming out tonight. It's
gonna be a great show.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
And the Martha Quinn Show team Martha Quinn and Kaarina
of Alaskaz. Yeah, Karina, what number podcast is this?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
This is episode number two and forty two, and we're
gonna call it Bad Falls.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Ah, Yes, okay, we're gonna call this podcast Bad Falls.
I believe inspired by something that happened to Karina of
Alaska's this week, and honestly, everybody on planet Earth.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Who was it?

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Who was the rock star? Well, Billy Joel just fell
recently and somebody else. Stain Tyler has done it a
million times.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
What's up, Yance? She recently did she? Yeah, she tripped
and then was it a trip? No, it was one
of her robots in her concert malfunctioned. But she has
had a famous fall, and it was quite the fall.
She was coming down a flight of steps in the
middle of her stage and she tumbled at the top

(01:53):
all the way down.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
I think I remember.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
It was definitely like oh, and she popped back up
and she kept on going. But that was a crazy
fall where you're like, because you know, sometimes, yeah, fall
it's funny most.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Of the time, right right, most of the time.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
If it's a really bad fall, you can't even laugh.
And it was one of those where you're not even laughing,
you're just like, oh, is she okay?

Speaker 3 (02:19):
It was one of those, Yes, you're worried, you don't
know what you just saw.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Carina's, on the other hand, very funny, Martha, very funny.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I don't think I neared this story with you.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
So I went, uh, not too long ago a weekend
to help Christy dj A wedding. I was her assistant
for the day, which was awesome.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
But we go to.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Finally get our food and it's a little bit quieter way.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
It's the buffet, and I was so excited to come
back with my plate. I had my plate full of
the food and I just couldn't wait to eat because
I was hungry. And I go to my chair and
the first thing I said was I should move my chair. Nah,
I should didn't move my chair. Now, let me move
my chair.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
I moved my chair. I go to sit down. Christy's
behind me. I go to sit down.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
All of a sudden, the leg peg of the back
of the chair started going in because the soil was
so dry.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
That the chair is sinking.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
And here I go, whoa. But literally it was the
world's slowest ball in the history of everness. And then
I'm like, whoa, whoa, Christy.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
That's the beginning of the show. I get it. Yeah,
that's what it was, Okay, got it? So what told you?
First of all? Okay, what was on your plate?

Speaker 2 (03:46):
It was salad, a vegetarian pasta, a vegetarian lasagna that
I was so excited to eat because lasagna normally has
meat I don't really eat meat but chicken, oh and
fikashia bread. But as I'm falling, I'm trying to hold
onto my plate as steady as I possibly can so

(04:06):
that it doesn't fall. But heck no, I did pretty good.
My ficacia bread went flying. But then here comes my
friend Christy to try to save me.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
All I could hear was ho ho and I love
And Karina is just sinking over till to know where,
like the leaning tower Pisa. And I look at her
and I'm like, do I save my friend? Do I
save her plate?

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Because she's holding onto her plate with one hand and
then she's holding onto the chair with the other, just
kind of teetering.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
On one leg.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
And then there's people in the wedding party watching all
of this go down because we're right next to them, yes,
and they're looking like, oh, and I had my plate
of food in my hand and there's a table in
front of me, but I had all of my things
on the table, so I couldn't necessarily put my plate
down and grab her plate or g her all quickly

(05:01):
because I only had one hand. So I reached over
quickly and grabbed her plate, and then she tumbled into
the bushes and then part of her plate fell. And
then I looked at my plate and I was like,
where's my chicken, where's my vakatia? And I looked on
the ground, and it looks like my plate was also
a casualty of the fall part of it, and I

(05:22):
was like, that's sang but it was really funny.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yeah, I just said I agree with grabbing the plate because,
like you said, you had vegetarian lasagna. If that were
to fall on your outfit, that'd be a big mess.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
No, Oh, it didn't matter because at this point when
I fell over, I just said, well I'm falling, I'm
gonna fall. And I landed in the uh like flowers
and dirts my and I was wearing all I'm wearing all.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Black, so the entire right side was.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
All covered in dirt.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
And Christie's like corina. I'm like, well, there goes your
there goes your caes are salad. Christie's plate suffered the
worst though, because like all her plate was practically gone.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Trying to save me.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
But and then I'm just glad it wasn't in front
of the entire wedding party, just those those tables that
were like closer to us.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
But yeah, all I could do was laugh. It was funny.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
It was hurting, and I was hurting because I fell.
It fell straight, like to the right side, hard, but
it was funny because it was so slow you were
trying to save my plate.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
It was just funny. It was hilarious when you.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Said the people were watching you and they kind of went,
was it a Beyonce?

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Funny.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
No, it was like a oh crap, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Because it was so emotion So everyone's kind of like watching,
you know, your dog just like watches and tilts his
head to the side like yeah, yeah, what's going on.
It was kind of one of those like is she
kinda self correct?

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yeah yeah? Or is she gonna fuck? Because I was
like whoa and then tilting and then yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Like Christie said, I was trying to figure out if
I can jump off the chair in time so that
I don't fall. But that was not happening. That was
not happening. Now I just set up. I'm just going
to give into it, but it happens.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
It's reminding me of that song by Pretty Poison Catch Me,
I'm falling.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Oh yeah, too late? She fell. I know, Christy, have
you ever fallen? Do you remember falling?

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Everyone has fallen, Like Martha Quinn said earlier, it has
happened to everyone on Earth. And it's interesting because I
think I might be the bad luck charm because I
didn't fall recently. But a week before Karina fell, I
was with my friend Justin and we were doing an
event for the season ticket holders at the Valkyries and

(07:41):
he was hosting and I was djaying and I looked
over and Justin is like this big tall he looks
like he could be a football player. He's built like
a football player and tall like a basketball player. And
so he's bouncing around hosting the event, having a great time.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
And then I turn around.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
And he's just standing there and he's looking so like dejected,
and I'm like, what happened?

Speaker 1 (08:04):
He's like, why did I just fall down the steps?
And I was like, no way. And part of me
was like no way. That sucks, but mostly I was like,
no way. I missed it, and I felt bad.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
I felt bad, but I was like, you know, it's
nice to kind of catch a good fall every now.
And then you're just like and so he's like yeah,
he said I was hosting, and I was going up
and up the steps. Excuse me, he made it up
the steps he's going down, but he wasn't paying attention
because he's trying to hype the crowd, and he missed
a step. And these are concrete steps out in front

(08:40):
of the Chase Center, which is the big arena where
the warriors and Valkyries play, and he just do and
I was like, no way, you fell. He was just
standing there and he's like, look at my knees. And
I looked at his knees and all his shins and
knees were scraped up and one of them was bleeding,

(09:01):
and I.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Was like, oh, oh you Hella fell And.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Then I felt bad because then I started laughing, because
even if you don't see it, it's.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Still like, oh my god, for real, you just fell
like that. How hard did you have to fall down steps? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (09:16):
To scrape your knees up that badly. He ended up
going to their medical facility. But I was thinking, maybe
I'm the bad luck charm because I didn't event with Justin.
He fell, and then I did an event with Carina
and then she so just be careful. Man.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
They probably surprised you with Justin too, because from the
way you describe him, he's very athletic, so you might
have been surprised.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Like really, you, Yes, it was really.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
It was funny though after the fact, and then each
time I saw him after that, I just kept looking
at his shins all taped up, and I was just like, dude,
I can't believe it. He's like I can't believe it either,
because you're just kind of in disbelief, so you have
to keep talking about it. Maybe it makes you feel
a little bit better because it is embarrassing. It is

(10:04):
so embarrassing, but often very funny if no one gets hurt.
I don't know why. When is the last time you fell,
Martha Quinn?

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Well, the last time I fell? Because it does happen
to me semi frequently. But I'm just that person. If
somebody's gonna fall somewhere, it's gonna be me. But I was, uh,
you know, the bagel store down the street from my
house has whole week Bagel Day, and so my husband Jordan,
and I get there at seven o'clock in the morning
that's when the door's open because we want to get

(10:33):
those whole week bagels because they usually only make I
don't know why, like three, and we want to be
the ones to nab them. So we were there early,
and we always we get coffee, and I got my
whole week bagels, and I was so excited because my
friend Karina gave us a gift card for the bagel store,
so I was like, yes, my gift card. And then

(10:55):
I had some coffee, which kind of made me like
So I got the Holy Bagels and I've got my
coffee and I'm walking out and right outside the store
is like a cement porch and it's like three inches
up off of the driveway. So coming towards me is

(11:18):
a couple with a cute little poodle. So I'm like,
I've got my coffee, and I'm chit chatting about Holy
Bagel Day and I'm looking and I go, oh, who
is this adorable dog? And I just completely forgot about
the fact that there is a step. So it was
almost like I was walking and all of a sudden
I went like like I just got like somebody was

(11:41):
underneath me with a string and they just pulled me out.
I didn't totally fall, but I did like the total
most awkward last step, Like did it that, and I
was like, oh, I was, and I tried to cover
for it because that's what I go, Oh, I was

(12:01):
paying Your dog is so cute, you know. I didn't
notice that step, but luckily, probably if I had fell
a fell, then i'd have been way more embarrassed. But
at least I did manage to stay on my feet.
But I found what you said about justin very interesting.
You didn't see him fall, but he came up and

(12:22):
told you.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah. I was looking at his face and he had
that Oh my god, I'm so embarrassed because it's.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Kind of type of face.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
And I'm like, what happened, and like, why are you
just standing here now that you were just you know.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
And he's like, why just wall And I.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Was like, no way, And you're lad because clearly you're
okay now because you're talking about it. You know, no
one's scraping you up off the ground. So I'm like, no,
because then.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
You're mad because you really wanted to see it.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Maybe it's just me, but you know, just because I'm
saying this, God, don't like ugly, I'm probably gonna have
a really embarrassing fall in the next couple of days.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Because no you're not. You're not because we're talking about it.
You're not. You're not. You're not gonna fall, but.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
You are absolutely not. But that makes me feel better
because I one time had a very public fall, which
is the very first MTV Video Music Awards. They told
me to go out on stage at Radio City Musical.
Everybody in the music industry was there, the guys from Kiss,
every music industry executive Paul Schaeffer. Sitting in the front

(13:30):
row was David Lee Roth. And it was my job
to go out and say, hey, welcome, you know, we're
going to have a great night, blah blah blah. So
the way we set it up was I was going
to say, and now let the show begin and throw
out my hand and then the proscenium the front of
the stage would sink down into the orchestra pit and
then the show behind on the remaining stage would start.

(13:54):
So I go, let the show begin, hand up. Nothing happens.
So I'm just standing there like the statue of Liberty,
going Okay, now what do I do? So I thought,
all right, I'll just walk off. I'll just go you know, backstage.
While I was walking, the proscenium started to go right
as I was starting to sink down right as I

(14:15):
was about to cross over to the main stage. So
then it's kind of like what Karina was saying, You're
debating what do I do. Do I scuttle backwards and
stay on the proscenium that's sinking, but by now I'm
like on the edge. I was afraid I was going
to fall into the orchestra pit if I did that.
Or do I try to leap onto the stage, which

(14:37):
you know is getting The height of that leap is
getting higher and higher every second, so because the stage
is dropping, so I decide, Okay, I'm going to go
for it. I'm going to leap onto the stage. But
I partially because A I'm clumsy and B because the
stage is dropping so you can't correctly assess the distance.

(14:59):
So I jump, I fall, and I feel like in
my memory that I could hear one of those audible gasps.
But I get backstage, and then of course I did
what Justin did, which was like, I'm sure not everybody
saw me, and probably by then nobody was thinking about it.
But of course I had to go up to everyone

(15:21):
that I ran into. Did you say, may've Oh my god,
I just felt, I'm sound embarrassed.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Oh my god, I'm sound embarrassed. I felt.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
So if you didn't see me, you heard about it
because I was the one broadcasting it. So a few
minutes later I see David Lee Ross and of course
I say, oh my god, did you see me fall?
And he said, and this is long before the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame actually existed. He said, Ah, darling,

(15:48):
welcome to the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You
know how many times I've done that? And you know,
as we started the podcast talking about Billy Joel and
Steven Tyler and Beyonce, so many people have indeed done it.
I'm Karina Velasquez. I will add you to that list
of rock stars who have fallen. So yeah, so it

(16:12):
is embarrassing, but everybody's done it, and yes, there is
something about it that is it is funny.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
And the point is when you fall, dust yourself off
and get up again and expect your friends to laugh
at you exactly.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
And then there's always.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
That move when you're on the street and you trip
and fall.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Oh yeah, you have to look you turn back and
look like the going on, what happened? What happened?

Speaker 3 (16:37):
And then you completely, even though you could be bleeding,
like blood spurting out of your leg, and you will
walk on like, yeah, I'm fine, I'm fine, it's fine.
It's fine because you're you're adrenaline. It is so kicked up,
and your instinct right away is to go, I'm fine,
I'm fine, it's fine.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
No, no, no, I'm fine, I'm fine.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
I'm seriously, i'm fine. People are calling the ambulance and
you're going, no, no, I'm fine. Well that was fun.
It was hearing about everyone's mishaps. Yeah, christ I do
want to say, you know, we are kind of anxiously waiting.
I'm not gonna want friend to happen to you because
you know now you need to be part of the club.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Oh, I've been part of the club. Think she's once.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
I feel like I saw her fall once, but I remember,
oh more than once. I'm definitely part of the club.
I am a card carrying gold member. But you know, okay,
good the most recent had did not happen to me,
but happened to two good friends.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
So it's probably coming. We'll see maybe justin.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Welcome to the club. We're really glad to have you
because it's a fun Club. We're a good group, you
really are, so don't worry about.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
It all right then, thank you ladies, thank you guys
so much for listening to talk talk with Martha Quinn.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
And until next week. I'm Martha Quinn, I'm Christy, I'm
Karrin of Velaskaz. Miss you ready,
