Speaker 1 (00:01):
My wife just texted me. She's crying because of our
9-11 post. So now you can see it at John
Jay and Rich on Instagram. You can see it at
John Jay Van Ness on Instagram. And Rich, did you
accept the clap?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I did. And you can see it on Rich Barrett
on Instagram. It was 25 years ago.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
It was amazing what the people of Arizona pulled together
and did.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Anyway. So last night, you guys watched the football in Australia? Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
A little bit of it.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah. Did you see Joe Bros?

Speaker 4 (00:26):
They were fun. Yeah, they were awesome. That was cool.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
They sound so good live.

Speaker 5 (00:30):
They do.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
I said to my son, who's a huge football fan,
I said, I go, I don't think that's, it'd be
interesting to follow these two teams through the season because
I think traveling to Australia screws up your sleep.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
That's the whole big story today is that the 49ers
got there like a week ahead of time so that
they could readjust their schedules and get their bodies on
the same clock of Australia.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
And I guess the Rams got.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
There like 28 hours before the game.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
And they got clobbered.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
That's what Kemp was telling me. And I was like,
I go, and I bet you it's going to mess
them up for the rest of the season. But because
sleep is so important. And then this video.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Has gone viral with Australian news anchors. We're watching some
footy game in America.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
The Rams and the San Francisco 69ers play some rubbish game.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
49ers.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
That sounds much more interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
A lot of people might pay to see this. That's
what we were doing. The 49ers. That's much harder to
explain to your wife.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
I saw a lot of people poking fun at the
football field itself saying that that was the first nfl
game that has front row seats that are nosebleeds because
it was played on.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
A cricket field oh yeah so far away.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
When it would pan out on the drone it looked
like they were really really far away from the field.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Do you know how big that state how many people
were there i couldn't i didn't hear them say No,
I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
But it seemed like a lot. It's a big stadium.
It looked awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
I just really enjoyed seeing Brock Purdy out there because
I was like, hometown hero.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Look at you go, dude.

Speaker 5 (01:58):
You're crushing it.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I love that they call it footy game.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
I know, right?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
That's what I was laughing at.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Footy game.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
If you are in the serving business, the restaurant business,
there's a server that's calling out waiters and waitresses on
the awkward thing they do when someone is dealing with
the bill and the tip on the table. You know
that little thing, that little toaster thing that they'll hand
you sometimes and they'll hand.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
It to you right there.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
They watch you give them a tip. They say that phrase,
it's going to ask you a couple of questions. Yes. Okay,
listen to this guy.

Speaker 6 (02:29):
One of the worst things you can do as a
server who uses a handheld is to drop it off
and say, it's just going to ask you a quick question.
It is so awkward and it's so easily avoidable. They
knew they were going to tip before they walked in
the restaurant.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
You don't have to tell them.

Speaker 6 (02:40):
The awkward part comes when they feel like you're watching
them and standing over them as they're filling it out.
There's two simple things I do to make it seem
like not a big deal. The first one is making
small talk with everyone at the table except for the.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Person signing the check.

Speaker 6 (02:50):
The second thing I do is wait for about half
a second when they hold the toast out and hand
it back to you. It makes it seem like you're
more engaged in the conversation than them signing the check.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Let me tell you how good small talk works. It
was my birthday last Friday and I'm at this coffee
shop and my wife's sitting next to me and I
order the coffee and I order her drink. And the
person takes my order and says, hey, how's your day going?
And then they turn the thing to tip. And the
tipping options were like 18%. 25% and 30%. Now I'm

(03:24):
in San Diego. Like sometimes when I'm, I'm just being,
I'm being as honest.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
As I can.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
If they happens here in this town, if it's someone
who recognizes me, I always try to do a bigger tip, right?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Cause it bums me out that they recognize me. Right.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
So my wife goes, she goes, how's your day going?
The lady goes, ask me that. My wife goes, it's
his birthday today. And she turned the tips thing around. Well,
happy birthday.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Hey, it's his birthday today. And I'm like, well, looks
like I got to hit 30. 30% is a lot.
So I said to Blake, I said, hey. Don't ever
talk again with her. Don't ever.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
No small talk. She can't just live her life.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
No small talk.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
You ask me to order you the drink, go back
there and sit down at the table while I order
the drink.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
It's her fault. 30% is- That's out of control.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
I know.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
And you know what else they do in San Diego
or in California thing? You tip and then there's a
service fee now in California where you- They.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Do that in Vegas too. It's something like that. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
So then I see this thing was on BuzzFeed about
things that used to be free, but now cost money.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
And number 10 on the list, it's pizza delivery.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
It says, I'm fine tipping, but a delivery fee.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
So you have a delivery fee and then you tip
too much. Things that used to be free, but now
cost money.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Lame. Parking.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
So it used to be that you could just find
something on a nearby street. Now it seems like you
have to scan a QR code for every parking space
on earth.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
If there's anything close to any sort of downtown or
any sort of scene at all, you can't just find
a parking lot.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
It all costs money. Free internet content. Why is everything
that's worth reading behind a paywall?

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Oh, that's nuts.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
I'm always like, I can find it somewhere else.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
I'm not going to subscribe to you. I just want
to read what you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
It's so frustrating, right? It's so maddening.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
It says YouTube without excessive ads. Now a 10 minute
video could be broken into three breaks. Unless you pay
to get rid of them. The Disney fast pass says
used to be an awesome and free way to skip
long lines. Now it's been replaced by paid options. I
knew there were two rides when I was at Disneyland
over the summer that you could pay for a fast pass. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
It was worth it.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
I remember it was the paper and you'd be able
to go like, I think it was like one an
hour or something like that.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Not anymore.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
One a day.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Checked airline bags used to be free. That's true. All
the concert ticket fees. Buying a ticket used to be
face value.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Now when you add in convenience fees, processing, and delivery,
it can make the price of the ticket double. Phone accessories.
This really pisses me off too now. This is not
that long ago. iPhones used to come with headphones and
a charger. Now you've got to buy that stuff separately.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Yes, the charging block. Bring it back, please.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Isn't that a bummer?

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
When you buy the new AirPods, you don't get the
charging case for free. You've got to pay extra for
the charging case. How are you going to use them
more than one time if you don't get the charging case?
