Speaker 1 (00:00):
John Jay and Rich Kayla send us a message. She
needs advice.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Good morning, Kayla, Good morning.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
How are you guys good?
Speaker 1 (00:07):
How can we help you?
Speaker 4 (00:09):
Well?
Speaker 3 (00:10):
I need some advice. A little backstory. My mom died
about ten years ago, and my dad is getting remarried
next eighty and I'm his best man. So I need
to write a speech for a woman that I'm not
really fond of.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I don't even know how come you don't like her?
What do you find not great about her?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Well, this is her fourth marriage and she has just
been doing like she says, like random little like and
I had remarked to me or my aunt or my
dad's mom, my grandmother, she is very you know, if
it doesn't go her way, it doesn't go anyway. And
(01:01):
she kind of just like she wants my dad to
get rid of all of my mom's stuff that he's had,
like photos or just like anything. She was at my wedding.
I got married last April, and my dad was going
(01:21):
to give me my mom's wedding range. And I thought
that was really sweet and I loved it. But she
was the one that like kind of pushed him aside
and made sure she was the one to give them
to me. So, yeah, she's a very difficult woman.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Well that's tough. I've been there actually when my mom
passed away. My dad got remarried, I know, about four
years after my mom passed, and it's just not your mom.
You know, it's not like they got divorced. Your mom
passed away, so you've got all those fond memories. And
at one point I think I just thought, at least
he's not by himself, so you can be like, he's
(01:57):
not a guy who can handle things by himself. He's
got some either kind of kind of hang out with.
It's not going to be your mom, and she's not
replacing your mom, But you got to find the you
gotta find the thing in her that your dad likes
and you're you're really there for him, not necessarily her.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yet.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
May I jump in, please do? Kayla? What's her name? Holly? Okay?
Speaker 5 (02:20):
I went because you called this asking for help with
the speech. I went in the chat GPT and I
said to chat CHEEPT your situation, and it wrote a
speech for you and it says good evening everyone. First
of all, I just want to say how honored I
am to be standing here as the best man or
should I say best woman.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Either way, I'm thrilled to be part of this beautiful.
Speaker 6 (02:42):
Slightly unconventional day. Now, let's address the elephant in the room,
or rather, the wedding in the room. This isn't Dad's
first rodeo, and it's not what's her name Holly's, and it's.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Not Holli's either.
Speaker 6 (02:54):
In fact, between the two of them, we should probably
start a wedding consulting business. Their combined experience with Id's
is truly unmatched. Don't ask your credit where credit is due. Holly,
you survived four husbands and still said sure, let's try
this again.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
That's optimism.
Speaker 6 (03:11):
And Dad, well, you're lucky to have found someone with
such resilience and such an excellent dress collection. Now, on
a more serious note, my mom, who he missed so much,
would have wanted my dad to be happy, and I
know she wants someone to make him laugh and keep
him on his toes and maybe even teach him a
thing or two about lifetime commitment, or at least fifth
time commitment. Dad, Holly you're perfect for each other. You
(03:34):
both learned a lot about love, marriage, and maybe a
little bit about lawyers. And now you're choosing to spend
the rest of your life together, or at least as
long as the paperwork holds up.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
So raise your glass to my dad.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
He's incredibed new wife and to love, because it's never
too late to find someone crazy enough to put up
with you.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Cheers.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
My goodness, it's very sarcastic.
Speaker 7 (04:04):
If I know I did, that would not go over well.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
So here's my advice.
Speaker 7 (04:11):
That's only the first take to put a couple of
times no, you could respond to be like maybe a
little less shade been there. Oh my gosh, the tease
pipe in hat over there. But here's my advice for
your kayler. So, one of my best friends, Treyanna, she
got married. I think it was like three years ago maybe,
and she married a guy that she barely knew, like
they I think they had been dating for like six
(04:32):
months before they got engaged and then they got married.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
I don't even think it was like a whole two years.
Speaker 7 (04:37):
And so this is like my best friend since I
was like the age of nine, right, and I had
to write a maid of honor speech. I didn't know
what the heck I was going to say about this
guy hadn't known him.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
I'd met him one time and.
Speaker 7 (04:46):
It was like briefly, like maybe for five minutes, and
I was like, how the heck am I going to
write a speech for my best friend and this man
that I don't know? And then I realized my speech
wasn't about the man that I don't know. My speech
was about my best friend. So the majority of my
maid of honor speech was about my friend. And then
I kind of just gave a nod to him, and
I was like, she's the type of girl that you know,
God blesses you, so you know the meaning of loss. Eventually,
(05:08):
like I did something like that, and then I kind
of just like went back to her. So that would
be like my sound advice would be like, make the
speech about your dad, not about.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
About your dad.
Speaker 6 (05:17):
Yeah, there you go, but still it's about your dad,
So he wants you to make it memorable. So you
want to be you want to be as nice as possible,
as friendly as possible, both ways.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Kayla, she'd been married four times.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Why honestly, I don't even know. I mean, so my
dad of her dated in high school, oh that thirty
years ago, right, and then we moved to I'm from Tallahassee, Florida.
So we moved here when I was six, and then
my dad moved back for his family and they reconnected.
(05:52):
She I guess, just uncompatibleness with men that she paid.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
Okay, well, she didn't kill me, but right, it's not
like she's one of those people that kills the husband
and hears the money and kills the.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Husband and heads the money. It'd be a Netflix series
on our I put that out of your speech.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
We don't know what happened to the four guys, Ohls, Joe,
and they're here tonight.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
That's cool. You live in Tallahassee. You listen to our show.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Oh I live in Arizona.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Now, oh no, I guess that sounds okay, you live
in Arizona. You listen to our show.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
I listen to you guys every morning.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Awesome, Well, thank you, well, good luck, good luck.
Speaker 6 (06:32):
Or you know, if you want, I can go to
the wedding and I'll do the speech for you.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
You know what, that would be amazing.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
We do like the serenodebersion Ac. I'll hide behind the
bushes and tell you what to say.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
You're gonna do awesome.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
It'd be happy for your dad that he found somebody
that can hang with for.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
A little bit. All Right, Cale, I have a great day.
Thank you so much for listening.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Thank you
